-- "Two distinct population segments of the Scalloped Hammerhead Shark are listed as endangered and two are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). NOAA Fisheries is committed to conserving and protecting scalloped hammerhead sharks."
-- "Great White Sharks are decreasing in numbers and are rare due to years of being hunted by man for fins and teeth, and often as a trophy for sport fishing. The white shark is often caught as bycatch by commercial fisheries and can also become entangled in meshes that protect beaches."
one of the largest members of the wrasse family, the california sheephead is a vital part of kelp forest ecosystems. they prey on shelled creatures, which includes sea urchins, who are kelp grazers. their large teeth allow them to crush through the shells of their prey. they are protogynous fish and often travel in a harem - with one dominant male leading a group of females.
this species is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN red list.
"Due to ongoing habitat lost, and over hunting for food and its tail plumes, the Reeves's Pheasant is evaluated as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. There are thought to be only around 2000 birds remaining in the wild.
This spectacular pheasant is memorialized in the Guinness Book of Records for having the longest natural tail feather of any bird species."

The grey-headed flying fox (pteropus poliocephalus) is the largest bat in Australia - their wingspan may reach up to 1 meter (around 3ft 3in).
They feed on nectar and pollen, as well as a variety of fruit, and play an important role in the propogation of these fruit species by distributing their seeds.
They are classified as Vulnerable under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
Bonus fact: the grey-headed flying fox seems to be very faithful to the location in which they build their camp, some fox camps having been used for over a century!
Wildcare Australia is a not-for-profit organisation devoted to the care, rescue and rebilitation the wildlife of Australia.
Michels is lying about the economy under Evers, only listing the shut downs that needed to happen and was state wide because people were dying from a contagious, deadly virus. The shut downs weren’t nearly long enough, and a lot of businesses that were opened were barely considered as “essential” because they had food in them. (Like Target.) So really most jobs were still up and running.
But besides all of that I want to point out a few little details-
Tony Evers has been going to cultural festivals lately, talking to the 99% of Wisconsinites. (He also lives in Wisconsin.)
Michels visits Wisconsin to hang out with a bunch of rich, white people at a fabrication company in a room filled with taxidermy, including a hippo.
Hippos don’t just appear in the wild in America. They’re on the “vulnerable” list and they’re illegal to hunt. One of these people either went overseas to hunt a hippopotamus for game or bought one off of someone who illegally kills and sells animals on the “illegal to hunt” list for money.
Crocodiles are also illegal to kill in America and depending on the breed are somewhere between “least risk” to “critically endangered.” Though it’s hard to tell what’s next to the hippo. People are speculating that it’s a crocodile.
Not enough people are talking about how Michels is hanging out with people who casually sits in a room with dead animals that are illegal to hunt so I’m going to.
Edit: I didn’t notice the obvious ivory tusk until @yardbitch pointed it out!
The 'I'Iwi, also known as the Scarlet Honeycreeper, is endemic to the main Hawaiian Islands. Their long, curved bill is thought to help it extract nectar from flowers, which it mainly eats - but they also eat small arthropods. Although they are still relatively common in their range, they have lost over 90% of their original range and are listed as Vulnerable and being considered being listed as Endangered.
It's December 4th, 🐆 International Cheetah Day! On this day in 1976, a Cheetah cub named Khayam was born at Wildlife Safari, in Winston, Oregon, USA. Doctor Laurie Marker raised Khayam from a cub until its death in 1986. In 2010, she designated December 4th as International Cheetah Day, and the event has been growing by leaps and bounds ever since.
Cheetahs used to roam everywhere from the southern tip of India across the Arabian Peninsula to the whole of Africa, but the 7,000 remaining Cheetahs are now limited to small fragmented areas in Africa and Iran.
Cheetahs are carnivores and feed mostly on small antelope like gazelle and impala. They usually chase down their prey and then, as all big cats do, clamp down on the captured animal’s throat until it suffocates.
Cheetahs have “tear marks” that run from the inside corners of their eyes down to the outside edges of their lips to help deflect sun glare from their eyes.
A Cheetah cub has a mantle of long, tall hair on its back. This helps the cub blend into the tall grass while making it look much like a dangerous Honey Badger – an animal even lions and hyenas think twice about messing with.
Cheetahs have long, muscular tails that help them keep their balance when they're running fast. The Cheetah is the world’s fastest land animal – it can run 110 kph (70 mph) – but it can't outrun extinction. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the Cheetah's current status as "vulnerable." Our planet's Cheetah population has declined by 90% over the past 100 years, and I suspect it won't be long before they’re declared "endangered." Can you imagine our world without Cheetahs? Please help save them if you can. ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet

A vulnerable parrot species from Southern Australia, much like many Australian native species, they have suffered due to a destruction of their habitat and the introduction of invasive predatory animals.
The "ohhhh fuck dolphins, dolphins are evil they kill and rape, ohh otters are evil they rape seal babies, not so cute now are they" people are like the children who would smugly tell anyone who would listen that ring around the rosie is about people dying of the plague. Like ok. Do I need to explain how high intelligence correlates with complex behavior or can you shut the fuck up on your own
