Neither Chase nor Omi thought of destiny as something that could be fought traditionally... until they met each other and decided that destiny is something they’d fight to shape with their own hands. Both each other’s and their own.
They’re stubborn and prideful, have so much faith in their abilities and believe all their own hype, but somehow they’re still very fatalistic.
You poor, naïve fool. You’ll never become a dragon.
Chase accepted it when Hannibal told him his destiny was on the Heylin side, unless he intended to languish in obscurity on the Xiaolin side. He’s not especially enthusiastic about it, at first, but after thinking it over, he makes the decision to throw away everything he believes in to go down that path.
If the choices set out for him are obscurity or evil, he’ll make his choice.
There’s only one path for you now.
When Omi saw through the Crystal that his destiny was to destroy the world, Omi was so unquestioningly certain that he couldn’t stop himself from going down that path that the only viable option he saw was “taking the long walk”.
They were both ready and willing to throw away their dreams. Fate had something else in store for them. They could only rise to meet it or run from it. There were no third options they could carve for themselves.
“Sometimes our destiny is determined by events that are out of our control.”
Omi was paralyzed with fear even when his friends did bring him back.
In a bout of learned helplessness, he refused to break his ice prison. He’d rather die than let his destiny be kickstarted. And he wasn’t convinced to not be suicidal or fatalist by the end of the episode, he just realized the vision that had convinced him happened to be faked. He still held the belief that if there’s a chance he may be evil, he should sooner die.
And Chase throws away everything to meet his Destiny and join Hannibal.
He commits atrocities until he acquires a taste for a them, pushes himself through the difficult transition until he wholeheartedly enjoys being evil. Now, he actively wants to watch the world he used to protect, burn.
But after Omi meets Chase, Omi learns the complexity and the spunk to push back against that internal doomerism.
When Wuya and Jack and Vlad were telling Omi his destiny was joining the Heylin side, Omi took “the long walk.”
When Chase repeatedly tells Omi that his destiny joining the Heylin side, and even succeeds in tricking him over to it, which directly causes the end of the world, Omi still banters back, “No, you’ll be joining me on the Xiaolin side together.”
And Chase starts the whole plan under the idea of this binary, either Omi joins him or Chase needs to kill him before Omi is strong enough to destroy Chase. The former keeps not happening, but it gets to the point where Chase just refuses to consider the latter.
Chase and Omi make each other remember their pride.
Because they are prideful, and who is anyone else to give them these limited, lackluster options?
“Either I’m wrong or destiny itself is wrong. And I’m not wrong. Even if I am, I’ll bend time and space itself until I’ve force the world to acknowledge that I’m right. I’m the greatest warrior this world has ever known, and I kowtow to nothing I don’t respect. Not even fate.”

I love seeing people talk about slavic vlad and their ideas, the area I went to college in had an incredibly high eastern european population and while most of my friends there were from baltic contries (latvia and lithuania generally, interestingly found out that latvians tend to swear pretty much exclusively in russian which is interesting) I babysat for a slovakian family for a long time (the mother was from the border with czechia iirc) and I remember going over a few days before christmas once and just seeing a whole live fish in the bath, guy looked at me, it’s apparently a christmas eve tradition to eat fish thats been kept in the house a few days and it inspired this:

So I was doing a bit of thinking today and I think one of the reasons I love Renfield so much is that it perfectly illustrates one point about any modern media that I think it's really important - that is the fact that it doesn't really matter how good or bad a piece of media, especially adaptive media is as long as it introduces the audience to the wider story at the core of it.
And I think this is something that Renfield has done really well, it's a slightly comedic movie touching upon morality and destructive relationships that so many people experience and not everybody liked everything about it, but for the people that did, there is so much stuff to discover at the core of the mythology around it, because the whole team, especially Nicolas Cage took great care to incorporate all the absolute best we've seen from Dracula's history.
So I imagine a lot of people who previously haven't been exposed to the Dracula fandom are suddenly in love with it because Cage was so phenomenal in the role. And whether through listening to the interviews or the movie itself they suddenly discover his little inspirations, cause the movie had everything - the fantastic rendition of 1931 intro, the little Nosferatu bit at the beginning, Cage's fantastic impressions of Christopher Lee, it's all in there.
And on top of that, of course, is that scene in the gym, where Dracula goes: "I'm the prince of Wallachia." And it's a very subtle thing, but I imagine some people catching on to that and going: "Wait, isn't he from Transylvania?" And most of them will probably let it go, but some people might actually research it, and they look up Wallachia, the name Vlad Tepes naturally comes up and suddenly, their little mind gets blown and they go: "Wait, Dracula was actually real??" And boom, suddenly, they're aware of the fact that the world's most famous vampire was based on one of the coolest people in medieval history. 😊
So yeah, I think Renfield deserves to be one of the best Dracula movies of all times, because it just brought the myth back into the spotlight in such a loving, dedicated way.

I feel like the fact that Vlad was hospitalized for several years kinda just gets brushed over a lot in the show 🙃🙃🙃 Like can we address this 🙃🙃🙃
Like it’s addressed twice, briefly, in Bitter Reunions, and then again kinda in Masters Of All Time when it turns out that Vlad is, apparently, still affected by the Ecto Acne! But then even that just gets kinda brushed over! Like they cure it but then that’s the last we ever hear about it.
Like can we please address that Vlad was, apparently, like chronically ill after the accident for twenty years!? 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
I get he’s the villain and all but like honestly yeah, I would be too if my supposed best friends blew up a science experiment in my face that put me in the hospital for several years, left me chronically ill, and then fucked off to get married like????

Why is it the thing that I actually feel accomplished about lately is that. I'm almost done with one neighborhood on my sims 4 save I'm making for myself. I've got one more family to finish for Willow Creek and then I can move onto the other worlds.

Katnappe vs the Russian language
I can't help but wonder what would be Ashley's reaction that in Russian there are 12 different expressions for the word 'cat'.
So, let's say it's the Spicer Squad alliance time. Ashley is that particular kind of member, who's always late for each meeting and leaves first. Every time the boys suggest she should stay and participate in team activities that don't revolve around stealing shen gong wu, she declines the offer.
However, one time she forgot her bag, so she came back to the room and overheard Jack, Tubbimura, and Vlad talking about cats. That caught her attention, so she kept on listening. The problem was, boys' speech was more similar to mumbling, so Ashley gave up and entered the room with a loud -
Ashley: What are you blabbering about, losers? About cats? Then me-ow I'm an expert so you can ask whatever you need to know.
Tubbimura: No, thanks. We're ranking the cat photos with the categories Vlad suggested.
Vlad, happily: I'm teaching them my mother tongue! Do you want to join us?
Ashley: Ew! I'll leave you to your stupid games, nerds. By the way, all the kitties are cute, so they shouldn't be compared!
Vlad: Well, we won't force you. Ok, Jack. Your turn. Tell me how do you say a sweet kitty?
Jack: Easy! It's котенька!
Vlad: Tubbimura, how do you say a kitten? Like a child of a cat?
Tubbimura: Is it котёнок? Hai?

Vlad: Good. So, to answer your question - there is a kot for a male cat and кошка for a female cat. Are you with me?
Ashley, impatiently: Yeah!
Vlad: You have to believe me when I say we have different names for cats with particular features. For example, we have different words for a stray cat, silly cat, small cat, little lady cat, and so on!
Ashley, confused: ... Okay?? So, no adjectives only nouns?
Vlad: Да! :)
Ashley: That doesn't make any sense to me.
Jack: Geez Ashley it doesn't need to! Russian is an inflectional language, while English is not. That's why it's hard for us to apply these rules.
Ashley, even more confused: What!?
Vlad: (sighs) Then I know what I have to do.

A sense of dread and unease washes over the hemomancer. As if he was being watched by a most monstrous creature. One more ancient and ferocious than he has ever been.
No matter how much times would pass, this specific dread feeling was one he could never forget. But for sure, they had all been vanquished and no longer roamed these lands.

Headcanon - Vlad or. . . Dad?
The Biggest reason that Briar identifies Vlad as her father, despite the fact she wasn't actually "born" in a way that would allow for this, is because of the blood they share.
(Muse dependent) Part of the mixture of blood that would become Briar was comprised of a cocktail of various animal and humanoid stands. Along with this Vladimir's own blood was also put into it to ensure that Briar would be unkillable and have an unnaturally long/eternal lifespan. Though this addition of his blood also in some ways helped give her the bloodlust that a killer needs but also with the influence of other sources of blood made it much more animalistic and uncontrollable.
How the Black Rose had gotten Vladimir's blood is unknown but due to this shared blood Briar is able to identify and recognize him as her "parent" or the closest thing to a parent that she could have.

Another mortal caught in a storm. Fantastic. He stalked downstairs to the foyer, barely remembering to half-close his jet black silk robe before answering the door, a polite yet tired smile gracing his face.
“Hi,” he chirped, slipping effortlessly into an American accent. “Sorry for making you wait out here for so long, I just woke up. You look absolutely drenched!” While he’d already intended on inviting the stranger in, either for a bit of entertainment or a quick meal, the sight of the soaking wet man on his front porch made him do a double take. The guy was absolutely gorgeous and practically on full display for him. The Count had to catch himself before he let his wandering eyes linger on those muscles for too long. “Come in, come in,” he insisted, regaining his composure. “You can wait out the storm by my fireplace. I can also have my maid dry your clothes for you, if you want, and you can borrow one of my robes while you wait. I also have plenty of food, tea, whatever you like. Ask, and you shall receive.” Try as he might, Vlad couldn’t keep the flirtatious edge out of his voice on that last sentence, but he moved past it and opened the door fully to let Brad in.
