i am an unapologetic villain-appreciator, but ngl, part of it is that when the villain shows up, i know the hero is about to get whumped so hard and it's very exciting
like yes i do think the villain is cool and interesting on their own... but i like them best when they're hurting the hero <3
My mom has never watched Barry, but I’ve talked about NoHo Hank before, and she’s so supportive of my blatant pettiness about how some reacted to his actions in the last episode, and how I refuse to let go of him.
i love characters who give into their worst impulses and characters who reject the concept of "redemption" and characters who self sabotage through self indulgence and characters who never got over that one thing that happened to them one time and characters who let their bitterness eat them alive and characters who don't put in the effort and characters who never change <3 Amen
I'm more of a "two cakes!" person when it comes to fandom characterization in fanfics.
I wouldn't say my "preferred" characterization for Jason Todd is particularly common in fanfic, but at the same time I like seeing a lot of different sides of the character explored. I lean more towards "crime lord" and less towards "fits in perfectly back with the Bats", but I'm also here entirely for fun and to get away from the more serious reading I do, so my presence here is pretty shrug emoticon.
also the problem with introducing competent and entertaining villains midway through a series is like…….. how am i supposed to root for the heroes after this? literally how am i supposed to listen to their plans for taking down their captors and nod and think “yes, if the villains were uglier/stupider/more boring/less capable of taking over my life i would be cheering on these heroes the whole way there”?????
Can we PLEASE mcfuckinh talk about how Accelerator from the Toaru Project is literally the Megamind of anime?
Like, like, he’s supposed to be one of the most ultra savage, terrifying, and most brutally overpowered assholes of the series, still gets his ass throttled by the designated hero, and YET like 95% of his interactions with the other baddies is just to roast them for not passing the evil vibes check right before he saves/protects every innocent civilian in a mile radius.
I’m just gonna say this, the main reason people don’t like Damian Wayne as a character is the same reason people didn’t like Jason Todd back in the 80s
People don’t like either of them because their favorite Robin (Tim Drake and Dick Grayson) got replaced by them.
Damian and Jason are both really interesting and complex character, objectively more complex than both Tim and Dick, but some people (cough, obnoxious Tim fans, cough, and Dick fans who over sexualize him, cough) don’t see that and just want their little blorbos to never grow into their own character apart from Batman.
