Windows: Notes on Prejudice and Consequences
A recurring theme that I think is found in Merlin is the use of windows as a symbol for watching the impacts of Magic and the prejudice against those who have it from a (seemingly) safe distance. As if the effects of persecution don't cut deeper than the purge it attempts.
1x01: Morgana turns her face away from the beheading of Thomas Collins in defiance and denial, as she watched from her window. While she has not yet accepted that she has Magic herself, she acts as a fiercely outspoken ally to those who were persecuted in the great purge. Morgana also turns her face away as she tries to deny her inherent qualities and avoid suffering the same fate.
Tumblr media
Referenced in 1x04
“I can’t stand by and watch him die.” “Then don’t look.”
Arthur is recognizing the extent of his father’s elitism and rigid views, which enrages him and inspires him to defy Uther.
Callback to Morgana turning her face from the window in S1E1 because she cannot bear to see Thomas Collins die.
Arthur and Morgana know that they cannot stop the horrible fates that await those who have Magic, and Morgana cannot bear to watch.
Tumblr media
1x09 Morgana and Arthur speak at the window in half-light, as she begs Arthur not to fight the Black Knight. Morgana knows Arthur’s future is dire, but she can’t tell why she feels that way. Morgana has an innate ability to sense the dark Magic that revived Tristan's spirit.
The half-light represents the half of herself that Morgana has to hide not only from herself, but also from those she loves.
Tumblr media
Merlin and Arthur look down through the window to where the Black Knight stands still, not eating or sleeping. There is no uncertainty that the Black Knight is conjured from Magic, and that the Magic is sure to kill whomever blocks its path.
2x07 Morgana watches the building of the Witchfinder's pyre outside her window. The punishment for sorcery has only increased in severity in the time that she started to accept her true nature. The glass of the window represents the final, fragile barrier between Morgana and the fate she would suffer if she were found out.
(Gwen is so afraid for Morgana to be found by Auredian because she is always and forever an ally.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2x08 Arthur must convince himself that Magic has no place in Camelot and that he was wrong to think it ever could. As he stands at the window, half in darkness, he separates himself from Magic and can’t look Merlin in the eye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I am indebted to you, Merlin. I had become...confused. It is once again clear to me that those who practice magic are evil and dangerous. And that is thanks to you.”
Arthur can sense that what he is saying is wrong, but Merlin does not usually lead him astray. Merlin has always been his voice of honest advice and earnest reason. If Merlin tells Arthur that Magic cannot be legal in Camelot, he has no choice but to believe him. Arthur is fighting his instincts to embrace what he knows is right and fair because of the judgments from those around him.
Arthur looks out the window, away from Merlin, looking down on and keeping himself carefully separated from the people he started to believe he should protect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4x03 Merlin watches Uther’s vigil through the same window where Arthur declared all Magic was evil in S2E8. This time, Arthur joins Merlin at the window and suggests that they use Magic to save Uther’s life.
If Magic can save Uther’s life, Arthur may change his attitude, and Merlin has real hope for the first time that he could be able to finally live freely.
Arthur would not confide this desire in any other person because he knows that Merlin holds no judgment toward others.
“If you were me, and it was your father, would you use Magic to save his life?” Merlin’s answer is immediate and confident, giving Arthur all the resolve he needed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The vulnerability and openness in Arthur’s face is as fragile and clear as the glass of the windows they stand by -- so delicate that Merlin is afraid to blink. If he blinks, Arthur's vulnerability might crumble. If he changes his mind, the opportunity might be lost forever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5x11 Arthur stands at the window and contemplates if he should free Mordred and Kara, despite their Magic. This time, he claims it is his decision to make.
Arthur stands on his own, and Merlin is proud of him for choosing to give Kara a chance to repent. Arthur chooses to pardon a person with Magic, so long as she repents for killing innocent men.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kara refuses to apologize and seals her fate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’ve made a terrible mistake, haven’t I?”
Arthur sits at the window and recognizes his error. Arthur could be referencing any number of things. He may be regretting his decision to execute Kara, not making an exception for Mordred, or the lasting impacts of his lifelong position on Magic.
I maybe could expend on this a bit, as it is all very precariously pieced together at the moment. Feels like it should ultimately be more of an essay than a list of notes like this? idk lol

Umbrella Academy Rewatch 1x09
1x01 1x02 1x03 1x04 1x05 1x06 1x07 1x08
Last episode left us with a pretty big cliffhanger, with Allison grievously injured.  So how does this episode resolve that?
Before we get to that resolution, the episode gives us a flashback to 1993, before Reginald started suppressing Vanya’s powers with her medication.  Back then, Vanya appeared to be a bit of a picky eater, absolutely refusing to eat her oatmeal.  Can’t say I blame her, of course.  I never cared for oatmeal, either.  But, rather than meet her halfway and come up with an alternative nutritious breakfast that she would eat (because it’s completely okay to not like certain foods), the nannies Reginald hired to take care of the Hargreeves Siblings’ daily needs attempted to use every trick in the book to force her to eat her oatmeal. This always led to Vanya’s powers bursting out of her, resulting in the hired nannies all meeting an untimely end, much to Reginald’s disappointment.  So, after losing an undetermined number of nannies, Reginald ended up constructing Grace, who the Hargreeves Siblings would eventually view as their mother.  When Grace attempted to get Young Vanya to eat her oatmeal, she was sent flying across the room like all the other nannies.  But, since Grace was a robot, she could simply get back to her feet and dust herself off, completely unfazed.  The sight of Grace being able to readjust her head, which had been knocked 180 degrees around when she collided with the far wall, manages to scare Young Vanya into obedience, with her wordlessly eating her oatmeal as Reginald looked on in satisfaction.
We then flash forward to the present day.  Harold/Leonard has brought Vanya back to his place after the incident at the cabin.  He announces that they have to hurry and pack up their things, as they’re going to have to go on the run.  Although, when he notices that Vanya is still in shock over what just happened, he brings her into the bathroom to clean her up, seeing as she’s still covered in Allison’s blood.  As Harold/Leonard washes the blood off Vanya’s hands, he tells her that the other Hargreeves Siblings will surely view her as an enemy now and come after her to avenge Allison’s death.  Vanya is still a bit shell-shocked, but she doesn’t share that viewpoint.  She’s sure that, if she just explains to her brothers that it had just been an accident, then they’ll understand.  Harold/Leonard, however, tells her that he’s the only one on her side, the only one who sees how special she is, and how her brothers will never understand.  Which is a pretty chilling line, considering working to completely isolate someone from their friends and family is practically the first chapter in the abusive relationship handbook.
Elsewhere, the Hargreeves Brothers have brought the injured Allison back to the Umbrella Academy mansion.  Which doesn’t seem like the most logical destination.  Why didn’t they just bring her to the hospital?  Considering Allison was losing a a lot of blood, time was clearly of the essence. I’m willing to wager that hospital we saw in the last episode was closer to Grandma Jenkins’ cottage than the mansion was.  Regardless of how it doesn’t make much logical sense, they carry Allison inside, where Grace is quick to start administering first aid.  Grace announces that, for Allison to survive, someone is going to have to donate some blood.  Immediately, all the Hargreeves Brothers volunteer.    Though Pogo informs Luther that, due to Reginald’s serum that had given him his ape body, his blood is more compatible with Pogo than to Allison.  Pogo also states Klaus’ blood is likewise off the table, as his blood is too contaminated with drugs.  (Question- does Pogo not realize Klaus has achieved sobriety?  So doesn’t that mean his blood is clean now?  Or do the chemicals from drugs remain in the blood for a longer period of time?   Granted, I do see from the website for the American Red Cross that people who used intravenous drugs must wait three months before they can be allowed to donate blood, but I don’t recall any evidence that Klaus took heroin or anything like it.  We only saw him popping pills.)  In any event, Diego is the one who is selected to donate his blood, even though he faints at the sight of the needle.  Which is rather unusual, when you think about it.  The man whose entire schtick is throwing knives can’t handle needles?  How’s that for irony?
A little while later, Klaus is in his room, searching for something.  Ghost Ben appears and is clearly disappointed when he learns that Klaus is looking for more drugs.  And he doesn’t hesitate to voice that disappointment, stating that Klaus has finally managed to achieve sobriety for the first time in a while and questions why he’d just throw it all away.  To this, Klaus vents his frustrations.  Yes, he managed to get sober, but what’s the point of staying that way?  He hasn’t been able to make contact with Dave and his siblings still treat him like a screwup.  (Perhaps Pogo turning down his offer to donate his blood for Allison hurt him more than he let on.)  Klaus says that if nobody takes him seriously anyway, then he’d rather just be numb.  Ghost Ben tells Klaus that he’s tired of seeing him give in to defeat and that he’s better than that.  He even goes so far as to say that Dave knew he was better than that, too. But Klaus still doesn’t listen and ends up popping some pills into his mouth.  Before Klaus can swallow, however, Ghost Ben punches him hard across the face, resulting in the pills flying out of his mouth. This act visibly stuns both of them.  Because, as we’ve already established, Ben is a ghost.  He’s not physically there, and therefore cannot make direct contact with anyone.  Episode 7 even highlighted this fact by showing us that Klaus could walk right though him.  So how was Ghost Ben’s fist able to connect with Klaus just now?  Ghost Ben surmises that it must have been Klaus who made it possible.  Does this have something to do with Klaus’ true potential that Reginald hinted at during Klaus’ out-of-body experience?
Downstairs, The Hargreeves Brothers are discussing their next move.  Diego is fully ready to go after Harold/Leonard, believing that he was responsible to Allison’s injury, and that it’s imperative that they do whatever they can to save Vanya from him.  Number 5, on the other hand, while he does say he’s concerned for Vanya’s safety, believes their first priority should be taking down Harold Jenkins, as the apocalypse is supposed to happen that very day.  And if they can’t stop it, Vanya will die anyway, along with everyone else in the world.  So Diego and Number 5 start to head out to find Harold/Leonard.  Klaus, still trying to wrap his head around what had happened with him and Ghost Ben, tries to duck out.  But Diego indirectly threatens him into tagging along by throwing one of his knives at him, with the knife just barely missing Klaus’ crotch.
Over at Harold/Leonard’s place, Vanya is unable to stop reliving her last terrible interaction with Allison.  Trying to settle her nerves, she heads over to the sink to splash some water on her face.  But when she reaches for a towel to dry off, she ends up knocking Harold/Leonard’s bag off the counter, causing Reginald’s stolen journal to slip out.  When Vanya opens the journal to read it, she finds all the information Reginald had written about her.  She instantly realizes that, if Harold/Leonard had that journal in his possession, it means he must have known all about her powers this the whole time.  And that means he was just manipulating her from the very start.  So she confronts Harold/Leonard about the matter.  Harold/Leonard tries to worm his way out of it by spouting off a bunch of flowery lines, about how Reginald had been afraid of her and put her on those pills because he didn’t believe she could learn to control him, how he was the only one who believed in her and embraced her for who she really was, etc. etc.  But it seems that Vanya’s trust in him has been broken.  Remembering what Allison had tried to tell her before, she asks him who Harold Jenkins is.  Realizing the jig is up, Harold/Leonard drops the nice guy act and, when Vanya tries to get away, he physically stops her while angrily asking her what her family ever did her her, as well as asking her who helped her get first chair in the orchestra.  He asks if she really believed the spot opened up on its own, all but directly admitting that he murdered Helen to pave the way for Vanya.  Naturally, Vanya is horrified by this revelation and tries even harder to get away from him.  In the end, when Harold/Leonard realizes that he’s forever lost his physiological grip on Vanya, he begins deriding her, stating that perhaps Reginald had been right.  Perhaps she really was too weak and pathetic to control her own powers.  As you might expect, Harold/Leonard’s cruel berating leads to Vanya tapping into her powers, with her creating a whirlwind of multiple sharp objects that collides with Harold/Leonard, resulting in his death.  Vanya looks coldly down at his body and walks out without even shedding a tear.
Sometime later, Diego, Klaus and Number 5 find Harold/Leonard’s body.  Number 5 tries out the glass eye he’s been carrying around for all this time by inserting it into Harold/Leonard’s empty eye socket.  In doing so, he confirms that this is indeed the man who was supposed to have brought about the apocalypse.  So, now that he’s dead, it looks like they don’t have to worry about that anymore.  But Number 5 isn’t satisfied.  He can’t accept it had been this easy, and wonders who killed Harold/Leonard.  He then teleports off as Klaus suggests finding Vanya so they can ask her about it.  Diego figures she might have headed back to the Umbrella Academy mansion, so they decide to go back there.
Back at the mansion, Grace has finished tending to Allison’s injury, as Luther keeps vigil nearby.  It seems as if Allison will live, but Grace announces her vocal cords were badly damaged, and there’s no way to tell if she’ll be able to talk again.  Pogo suggests that Luther go get some rest, but Luther snubs the advice, announcing that Pogo is the last one he’d take advice from.  It’s clear he’s still angry at Pogo for keeping so many secrets from them.  Once they’re alone, Luther apologies to the unconscious Allison for not being there when she needed him, realizing that, if he had gone with her, Diego and Number 5 when they headed out to find Harold Jenkins instead of staying behind to look for his old moon mission reports, Allison wouldn’t have had to go off on her own.
Meanwhile, since they’ve determined Vanya hadn’t shown up at the mansion, Diego decides to head off again.  He still wants to settle his score with Hazel and Cha-Cha.  After he leaves, Number 5 starts grilling Klaus, asking him if Reginald told him anything more about the apocalypse when he’d spoken to him during Klaus’ out-of-body experience.  However, Klaus only wants to figure out more about how to continue to advance his ability, as he’s concluded that the fact that Ghost Ben was able to punch him had something to do with Reginald’s hint that Klaus’ true power went beyond simply communicating with the dead.  So he tries to ask Number 5 how he managed to figure out how to time travel on top of his ability to teleport.  As this conversation continues, Klaus informs Number 5 that they’re both addicts.  Number 5 denies this, but Klaus insists it is true- Number 5 has become addicted to stopping the apocalypse.  So much so that, now that it looks as if they’ve successfully stopped it, Number 5 is unable to accept that, as he no longer has a purpose in life.
Of course, we can’t forget we also have the subplot with Hazel, Cha-Cha and Agnes to deal with.  Agnes arrives back at her motel room at the bird sanctuary.  Hearing someone in the bathroom, she grows elated, thinking that Hazel had returned.  Only for her to find it isn’t Hazel.  Cha-Cha has managed to track her down.  Valiantly, Agnes tries to tell her that Hazel left her and isn’t coming back, but it’s clear Cha-Cha doesn’t buy it.
Hazel, not knowing the danger Agnes is in, comes to the Umbrella Academy mansion to seek an audience with Number 5.  Number 5 allows Hazel to come in and they begin to talk civilly for a bit.  But right when Number 5 asks him directly why he’s there, Hazel doesn’t get a chance to answer.  Because Diego appears quite literally out of nowhere and begins whaling on Hazel.  At first, Number 5 tries to tell Diego to calm down and just give Hazel a chance to speak, but Diego is past the point of being reasoned with.  So Number 5 just sits back and watches the fight continue for a bit.  (Hazel, to his credit, manages to get a few good hits in himself.)  Eventually, though, Number 5 decides things have gone on long enough, and he interferes, breaking up the fight by smashing some glass object over Diego’s head, knocking him out. Now that he’s able to get a word in edgewise, Hazel announces that he’s left The Commission and wants to volunteer to help stop the apocalypse.  Number 5 tells him that it’s too late, as the apocalypse has been successfully prevented with Harold Jenkins’ death.  So Hazel breaths a sigh of relief, knowing he can now have a long, happy life with Agnes.  He and Number 5 then elect to part ways in peace, with them wishing each other luck with the rest of their lives.  Before Hazel leaves, however, Number 5 announces that he has one last question for his former adversary- which of them killed Detective Patch.  Hazel states that Cha-Cha was the one who murdered her.  He then gives Number 5 the gun Cha-Cha used to kill her so Diego’s name could be cleared.  When Diego wakes up again, Hazel is long gone.  Number 5 tells him that, now that the apocalypse has been prevented, its time to stop fighting.  But Diego’s rage hasn’t subsided, still wanting to go after Hazel.  Even after Number 5 tells him that Cha-Cha was the one who killed Detective Patch, Diego insists it doesn’t matter, as Hazel was also there that night.  Therefore, in Diego’s eyes, Hazel is equally guilty.  But in the end, Number 5 is able to talk sense into Diego by helping him remember that the thing he liked best about Detective Patch was that she always saw the good inside people.  So him killing Hazel and Cha-Cha would be a poor way to honor her memory.  With his point made, Number 5 leaves the room with Delores, leaving Diego with Cha-Cha and Hazel’s guns, which could be used to clear his name, as ballistics would match the bullets found at the crime scene with the ones used in Cha-Cha’s gun.
We then see Vanya has returned to her apartment,  Upon her arrival, she listens to the messages on her answering machine.  As a result, she finally is able to hear the voicemail Allison left her a few episodes ago, about how she only wanted to be a good sister to her, and that she loves her.  Hearing this message, combined with the fact that Vanya thinks she killed Allison, leaves her devastated, especially when she sees the strings on her violin bow are still stained with Allison’s blood.  She breaks down into tears, sobbing openly.
Back at the Umbrella Academy mansion, Allison has regained consciousness.  But because of the damage to her vocal cords, she cannot speak, as Grace predicted.  So she signals to Luther, who is still keeping vigil at her side, for a pen and paper.  When he complies, Allison hurriedly writes him a message, attempting to inform him that Vanya actually has powers.  Luther doesn’t really understand what Allison is trying to say, but Pogo, who had been within earshot, decides that there’s no point in keeping it covered up anymore.  So he tells Luther the truth about Vanya.
So, by the time Vanya is able to bring herself to return to the mansion herself, Luther knows all about what really happened.  And he is the one who meets her upon her arrival.  He tells her that Allison survived, and Vanya is relieved by this.  She then explains that she and Allison had gotten into an argument and things had simply gotten out of control.  Vanya tells Luther that she hadn’t meant to hurt Allison, and that it had been an accident.  Luther assures her that he knows it was an accident, and then holds out his arms in a clear invitation for a hug.  Tearfully, Vanya moves into the hug, once again saying she was sorry.
But then, things abruptly go downhill, as Luther immediately starts squeezing Vanya, utilizing his super strength against her until she passes out.  When Vanya comes to again, she is nothing short of horrified to find herself in the same soundproof room Reginald placed her in when she was 4.  When she sees Luther, Diego and Klaus standing outside the room, she tries to call out to them.  But because the room is soundproofed, they cannot hear what she’s saying, and she also can’t hear them.
Outside, it seems that Luther has already told Diego and Klaus about Vanya’s powers.  They are both in disbelief at the revelation.  However, it soon becomes clear that they are both against the idea of keeping Vanya locked up like this.  After all, this is their sister, who always cried when they stepped on ants as kids.   Diego declares that if Vanya does indeed have powers, it’s obvious that she needs their help now.  And they can’t help her if she’s locked in a cage.  Klaus is in agreement with this sentiment, adding that Vanya is most likely struggling with her new power, which must be scary for her to deal with after years of believing she was ordinary.  Allison, who has also made her way down to the soundproof room, states through written message that she wants Luther to let Vanya out of her cell, too, stating that what happened had been her own fault, not Vanya’s.  But, despite all of this, Luther digs his heels in, stating Vanya is a danger to herself and others.  So she must stay put until they know how to deal with it.  He then all but forces Allison and his brothers to walk away, leaving Vanya alone as she pounds on the door, screaming that she’s sorry.
Okay.  I gotta say this.  I was pretty much on the fence about him up until this point, neither liking or hating him.  But this moment made up my mind about him.  Out of all the Hargreeves Siblings, Luther is the one I like the least.  I don’t care if he was trying to think about what was best for everyone.  I don’t care if he was just trying to keep everyone safe.  At the end of the day, Luther is supposed to be the leader of the team.  But this scene made it clear to me that he is the worst candidate for team leader.  Because a real leader isn’t just about being the one in charge and forcing everyone to go along with your decisions.  A true leader also has to listen to the rest of their teammates.   And if the rest of your team is all in agreement about something, you don’t get to just overrule them as if your word automatically vetoes theirs.  So much for sentiment they had back in Episode 4, when they were deciding things with a vote.  Because if they were still honoring those rules, then Luther would be outvoted.  Yes, Number 5 wasn’t around to voice his thoughts on the matter, but I have a hard time believing that Number 5 would be okay with Luther’s decision to lock Vanya up like this.  Especially since it was established in the first episode that he and Vanya were once pretty close themselves.  After all, when Number 5 disappeared when he got trapped in the future,  Vanya was the one who left the lights on for him in case he ever came back during the night, also leaving out a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich for him every night.  And it was Vanya who Number 5 sought refuge with following his run-in with the first batch of temporal assassins at Griddy’s Donuts.  But even IF Number 5 sided with Luther on this one, it would still have been three to two in favor of letting Vanya out.  But instead, Luther is all ‘I’m team leader, so I get to have the final say in everything.’ As far as I’m concerned, Luther is going to have to perform a pretty epic makeup for this before he can be redeemed in my eyes.
Anyway, another drama is going down elsewhere.  Hazel arrives back at the bird sanctuary to rejoin Agnes.  But when he enters their motel room, he is met with a chilling scene.  Cha-Cha has tied Anges to a chair positioned in front of the hot tub embedded in the motel room floor.  All Cha-Cha has to do is pull the rope she’s holding, and Agnes will be pulled back into the hot tub to drown.  Hazel tells Cha-Cha that she can do whatever she wants to him, as long as she lets Agnes go.  To this, Cha-Cha states that she fully intends to kill him, but first, she’s going to make him watch as Agnes dies.  Before Cha-Cha can do anything, however, Hazel lunges forward and a full-on fist fight erupts between him and Cha-Cha, with both of them during a deaf ear to Agnes’ pleas for them to stop.  After this goes on for a while, Cha-Cha manages to get the upper hand over Hazel, wrapping a cord around his throat until he no longer has the energy to fight back.  She then leaves Hazel lying on the floor, gasping for breath, and heads back to Agnes, instructing him to watch as she forces her back into the hot tub.
Before Agnes can hit the surface of the water, however, time suddenly stops and everything freezing in place, with only Hazel and Cha-Cha being able to move about.  As Hazel and Cha-Cha look around in confusion, the door to the motel room opens and The Handler strides in, announcing they really screwed things up.  Not sure how she survived the exploding grenade with nothing but a scar, but whatever.
As this episode comes to a close, we see the Hargeeves Siblings as they try to take stock of everything that’s happened.  Luther tries to convince Allison that he did what he had to do, but she’s not having it, proceeding to give him the cold shoulder.  (Good!  He deserves it!)  Diego is sitting alone in the kitchen playing with a lucky rabbit’s foot that I guess belonged to Detective Patch, only looking up when Grace places a plate of smiley faced pancakes in front of him.  Klaus is in his room, attempting to play pat-a-cake with Ghost Ben in an effort to try and make physical contact with him again.  And Number 5 brings Delores back to the department store where he found her.  As he gets ready to leave her there, he makes a heartfelt goodbye speech to her, with him talking about how they’d been through a lot together and that he’ll never forget her.  As he turns and walks away, he requests one of the people working at the department store to give Delores something new to wear, stating she likes sequins. Naturally, the department store worker is visibly confused by this but says nothing.
But then, as the episode wraps up, we see Vanya down in the soundproof room.  As she gives into despair, she has some sort of mental breakdown, with her reflection on the glass door being replaced by the image of her younger self.  The Young Vanya Hallucination declares that the others are still scared of them and their power.  The hallucination, apparently voicing Vanya’s darkest thoughts, encourages Vanya to accept the fact that the other Hargreeves Siblings are just like Reginald and will keep her down there forever, so the only thing they can do is embrace who they are.  That’s when Vanya notices there is one sound the soundproof room cannot muffle- the sound of her own heartbeat.  So she ends up using that sound to activate her power, successfully breaking herself out of her cell.  The sound of the door to the soundproof room crashing down is so loud, it can be heard throughout the mansion, with Luther instantly realizing what it means.
Final notes/questions
Seriously, how did The Handler survive the explosion?
What’s going to happen with Hazel and Cha-Cha?  And will Agnes make it out okay?
Boy, Luther really botched that one.  He should had listened to Diego, Klaus and Allison.  Now Vanya is on the warpath.
No, I’m sorry, I’m still peeved with Luther.  After all the indications that Reginald was the worst person in making judgement calls (sending Luther up to the moon for no real reason other than just giving him something to do, committing suicide and making it look like a murder mystery to trick everyone to reunite and lying to them all about Vanya’s powers, among other things), and was therefore not someone anyone should be emulating, he still thought copying his methods by locking Vanya up in the soundproof room was the way to go?
Is Klaus going to be able to master his new ability?

Lucifer 3x20 - Meta and Speculation - The Love, the Mark and the Deckerstar
Part 1 - The Love
This episode was really hard to watch with all that Marclo sex but it also gave us a lot of insight into certain things.
First, let’s go back to episode 1x04 - Manly Whatnots. Last night I revisited that episode down in memory lane with @caesarmidnight.
Lucifer in 1x04 planned to have sex with Chloe but during the episode not only he didn't succeed but ended up being shot by her and bled much to his horror.
We had assumed that the standalone 3x06 in Vegas was just a sweet episode especially with the bullet necklace but apparently we were wrong as EVERYTHING is connected. Before I go too far with this I would like to remind you that in 3x20 Lucifer mistakes the actor as the murder because he played one in the tv Series Bones, episode 306 The Intern in the Incinerator.
The episode of Bones gave away many hints like the following, taken now due to a shortage of time from this blog:
1) Felicia says, "Why did you guys break up? What did he do?" On her way out. An innocent Booth talks to himself, saying: "It wasn't me."
2) Booth:  "Because you were betrayed by one of your own." Bones: "yes, are you going to betray me?"  But in answer to her question about whether he will betray her: He lifts his cup and says, "no."  Bones  takes the liquor and says, "Nonetheless, I will be vigilant."
So as you can see there is a lot of backstory here.
Moving on! Now let’s say that the writers did not only nodded to Bones and the plot of that particular episode but also to the 3x06 episode of this season Vegas WIth Some Radish, the important messages we got there as well as the importance of the bullet and of course the episode 1x04.
Back to episode 1x04, I remind you the hilarious exchange of the: Chloe: I need you- Lucifer: See you need me Chloe: The Department needs you because you are the one Lucifer Oh I’m the one! Chloe: on the list for the player thing.
But that’s just the light stuff the most important things which we discussed with @caesarmidnight. was why Lucifer became vulnerable to her in 1x04? Well for the ones who do not know although I have said it many times, the episode 1x04 was written as the episode 1x03 but as the showrunners felt Lucifer was becoming vulnerable too fast they moved the episode 1x10 - The Would Be the Prince of Darkness as 1x03 and made some changes to fit the storyline.  So now you know... Lucifer was supposed to be vulnerable way too fast in just 3 episodes (four are good as well) but it took Marcus 20 episodes?
Some say that often we mistake love with sex. Chloe finally got some sex and closeness so it’s would not be surprising if she had feelings of closeness but no real love as she had for Lucifer. But you will say was Chloe in love with Lucifer in 1x04? Heck was Lucifer? The answer is no. There was more.
In 1x04 Lucifer bares himself before her like naken and emotionally in the car but both counts. The first because Chloe realises that Lucifer is a man with a lot of issues and perhaps starts to respect him in a way. WHoever got through that torture has her sympathy. In the car though everything changes.
In the car, Lucifer asks her seriously if Chloe fears him to which as you remember she looks at him carefully almost horrified by the question and she says No. At that moment Lucifer has her verbal, emotional and soulful Trust. She might be attracted to him for sure but there is something more there.
Chloe trusted Lucifer enough to shot him, that’s no joke. But as she started to love him the radius of his vulnerability started to expand as we saw in 2x12. In my theory, it’s Chloe’s feelings that make someone vulnerable or in Marcus’ case killable. The reason is that they have to be neutralised for her to not be hurt.
So does that mean that Marcus and Lucifer’s feelings mean nothing? Well in Marcus case there is a mutual respect but with Lucifer, it's like coals that never go out. Never trust coals by the way.
And a final note from 1x04. When Chloe returns home Trixie tells her Mummy that if she shot him she must really like him... Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Yes, you see the relationship and mutual love between Lucifer and Chloe works because there is trust, respect and both ends are ready to forgive everything no matter how grave. In 3x20, Chloe demanded Lucifer to talk to her, she was worried but also lost in her bliss. You see when we are lonely and attention is given to us we tend to be mistaken about the feeling of comfort and actual deep feelings like the one of love.
Part 2 - The Mark
In episode 3x20, Marcus mark disappeared and we got to see Lucifer’s eyes blaze amber again. Sometimes I wonder if Lucifer’s eyes become red because of Chloe. I’m confident that there is something behind his Devil face but not his lightbringing power per se. He still has that it’s something deeper than that. Both times his eyes flashed red he was furious that the one he cared or loved was manipulated. It was a flame gleaming by his very soul and not his work as the Devil.
So let’s move on to the infamous Mark of Cain. It’s gone but is it really? Imagine this... If the Mark is gone Marcus would have called Maze by 3x21 and she would have killed him. Of course the mark might reappear in the next episode, it might not have left at all and of course, Marcus plan might not have been losing the Mark and dying.
Let’s review this from the start.
Marcus has sex with Chloe in order for her to become more emotionally attached to him. It worked and then talked to Ella. Ella said that when Chloe says the magic words everything will change to what he says that he is counting on that. (I’m not going to discuss the rock part...)
Some may say that Marcus had a change of heart as he knows loves her and although it is true that the writers turned the tables on us with Amenadiel and Mum, Cain is a different story.
Some things once more do not add up. Maze tells him that Chloe will be a wreck and although we see him thinking about it he is clear that he doesn’t care who he has to hurt but then why did he flee from her apartment?
Chloe says: I really like spending up time with you to which he seems perplexed and before she tells him she loves him, Marcus stops her.  Marcus: I can’t do this Chloe:..-Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith Marcus: You’re just making this too hard, It’s not worth it.
The majority of the audience has understood that Cain is now in love with Chloe and that he stopped her in order to not hurt her. I don’t buy it. Remember that Maze has a huge fight with Marcus at the end of the season as does Lucifer.
There is a very eerie scene at the paper factory that has me wondering what will happen. Also, why would Charlotte be killed? Why does Marcus has illegal dealings or was it the ring in Chinatown? What also bothers me is that I can see two possibilities.
One let’s say that Marcus is indeed in love and dies protecting Chloe. Doubtful.
Two  Marcus tries to kill Lucifer at the Finale while he is close to Chloe at that circular room with the Roman status, the bullets and the feather. Now we are talking...
Moving on again let’s go to the very last scene where Lucifer gets at  Marcus’ house. I still have this weird feeling that Marcus might have concealed the Mark in order to send Lucifer away who might believe that his antagonist with either die soon so problem solved or later on force Lucifer into reluctantly backing down when he asks Chloe to marry him for his own devices.
In any case, by removing the mark with let’s say makeup, Lucifer is sure to step back and wait but that move might make him lose the game and of course Chloe something that Marcus is counting on. You don't just send the cat to a crazy adventure, you distract her enough for the cat to believe you are friendly enough, let you approach it and then choke it to death. Do not forget Sinnerman. Ever. I mean it, do not forget the mouse in the trap!. Or Lucifer in the fridge...  Finally, I remind you the first part of my meta and speculation post about the case. See the similarities between Jeremy and Marcus... His last words on how he was a good actor to make that woman fall for him and how he used her.
Part 3 - Final - The Deckerstar
What is left to say here in this episode full of pain and agony? A lot.
As many of you have noticed the song used for the final scene of 3x20 was teh same (albeit a different cover) with the one of 2x10. In the AIr tonight. That song may be used to signify Chloe’s miracle status as she has removed Marcus scar but also something more... In both times Chloe was left emotionally crushed,
But there is more.... Following I have the lyrics between the two episodes under the scenes they were features.  “Well if you told me you were drowning”
3x20 - Marcus Leaves Chloe’s house
2x10 - Lucifer and Chloe talk about getting reservations at Lucifer’s penthouse and share one of their first moments of mutual flirtation and affection.
“I would not lend a hand, I’ve seen your face before my friend”  3x20 - Marcus in anger and hits his helmet while sitting on the stairs, Lucifer drives the Corvette in agony
2x10 - Mum tells Amenadiel that Chloe is not an obstacle but a way for Amenadiel to get back his wings. To get back everything.
“But I don't know if you know who I am”
3x20 - Lucifer drives and finally arrives at Chloe door which he knocks repeatedly
2x10 - Lucifer says “Detective what you said today in the courtroom” Chloe interrupts him and says that it was the truth.
Now the songs change:
3x20 - Well I was there and I saw what you did, I saw it with my own two eyes
3x20 - Trixie solemnly opens the door and Lucifer sees Chloe emotionally broken and unresponsive.
2x10 - “I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord”
2x10 - Chloe gives her hane to Lucifer who plays tenderly with her fingers.
3x20 - “So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been It's all been a pack of lies” 3x20 - Lucifer stares at Chloe and she does not even notice he is there.  So Lucifer nods to himself and leaves.
2x10 - “Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord”
Mum says to Amenadiel that they are going home and that Chloe is the key
Same lyrics again:
3x20 - “I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord”
Lucifer drives in the hideaway towards Marcus house.
2x10 - “I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord”
Lucifer and Chloe come closer and almost kiss before the credits roll
3x20 - “Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord”
Lucifer gets to Marcus house and breaks the window
3x20 - “Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord”
Lucifer - gets into the house and hits demanding to know why he hurt Chloe.
3x20 - “Oh lord, oh lord *instrumental*  Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord”
Lucifer and Marcus talk and after Lucifer hits him again, he notices that Marcus’ mark is gone.
youtube
youtube
So what is the big difference I see between the scenes? Obviously the fact that both Mum (for the first time in 2x10) and Marcus (in the past episodes) called her a key. Is no accident.
We can also say that the  “Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord” in the case of Cain is for him to be killable but that foresees the final scene and not an actual fact for now.
Also between the two scenes, we don’t have romances in both cases. In 2x10 we have a tentatively blossoming love but the plant is still there even now waiting to blossom again. In 3x20 we have way too much fertiliser, no real flower but the illusion of one. The spring does not create the seeds but gives them an opportunity to grow. In this case, Marcus has no seed to grow just a lot of BS.
Finally, I remind you that 2x10 in a way started the story that ended in 2x13 and Chloe almost dying so who will be dying this time? Chloe or Lucifer? I believe it’s Chloe’s time once more hopefully by protecting Lucifer or at least really endangering her life for Lucifer.
So it’s funny really how much this episode of Marclo sex and Chloe saying I love you is at heart a Deckerstar episode.
Do not forget that Marcus forced a relationship under false pretences. Lucifer was always open as to who he was, what he was and his only deceit was when he left her in order to protect her.
So here is the main difference between Lucifer and Marcus. Marcus is a mask that sooner or later will drop and not a good man. Chloe’s feelings are misguided and that person does not actually exist.
Lucifer, on the other hand, was always open to who he was as a man and besides his faults and perhaps even with his faults, Chloe fell in love with him. He has no mask to drop only one to wear and that’s the Devil’s. The Devil most believe it’s his true identity, but it’s but a mask that hides behind it a scared boy that puts a brave face of red and black hoping that inflicting fear will protect him...
That’s all I have to say for tonight... I might have forgotten a few things but for now, that’s it. Thank you for reading this if you did and I hope you will have a great week ahead of you. :)

Note
top 5 episodes of the fosters
1x05 Morning After
1x10 I Do
1x09 Vigil
2x06 Mother
1x04 Quinceañera
This was entire episodes, not favorite moments or scenes so I was hard pressed to find one outside of 1a that would make the cut. Those first ten episodes were absolutely magical and the main reason Mother makes it is because Sherri was so very good in it and the whole selling of the bed thing was pretty funny.

FemslashEx 2020 Dear Creator letter
Dear Creator,
Thank you for bringing more femslash into the world! And thank you especially for making femslash for me, too. Gonna jump to the prompts under the cut:
General Housekeeping
Canon pronouns and gender identities:
Bending canon pronouns or identities is delightful, but completely optional.
DNWs: Explicit works where the characters are underage, ship or character bashing, kinks involving bodily fluids/excretions, stories focused on marriage (characters being married is fine, and I do like "woke up married" stories or fake or arranged marriage stories, but not stories where The Marriage Is The Point) or kidfic.
Re: g!p: Like I said, I love genderbending, and that does mean I'm theoretically okay with a lot of things--aliens, robots, magic, ABO, etc., in addition to things like gender play during sex, toys, intentionally fucking with gendered cues, clothing, etc. I'm also really a fan of stories that can respectfully include nuances of marginalized identities & experiences.
So if you want to engage with real identities in your fic, please do--I love exploring different potential "versions" of characters, and thinking about how a character's canon or canon-adjacent characterization might fit with the experiences of multiple different identities. I love stories that celebrate bodies and experiences that are considered non-normative.
My only caveat is that, if you're going to give a character a dick only so they can fuck someone with it, or if the fact that the character has a dick is the kink (i.e. if the character having a dick & using it in particular ways is the thing you’re really interested in writing), please have it be the result of something like magic, or shapeshifting, or even technology (aliens and robots!) instead of including it under the banner of trans or intersex identity.
tl;dr: Wanna write about trans or intersex versions of a character, including depictions of people with penises using those for sex? I would love that. Wanna write about Adora boning down with a flesh-and-blood dick because you think She-Ra has BDE? Have it be a magical transformation of some kind.
General Likes
Hurt/Comfort - Tending wounds! Bedside vigils! Nightmares! Reassurance! Touch-starved characters! Shared grief! Oh my!
Casefic/Mission fic - Mostly exactly what it says on the tin
Worldbuilding - Similar to genfic, but I just *clenches fist* Worldbuilding. Religion, magic, geography, history--especially if it adds something to our understanding of the characters and the experience of the bigger story.
Genderbending & Subcultural Identities - I really like exploring how a character might fit/not fit/understand themselves within IRL identity frameworks, or even thinking about how existing identity frameworks in the canon universe might influence how the character sees themself. This might be worldbuilding-heavy (I'd be super fascinated by the nuts and bolts of gender fluidity and transition with the kind of magic that Etheria has) or just a, "I feel like these two characters have a butch/femme dynamic and I'm going to play that up" or literally writing about a character trying out a haircut and a more non-binary way of being in the world and... enjoying it?
That also shows up in my ABO. I really like ABO that focuses on the subcultures that might  exist in that kind of world.
Altered states: Drunk, high, or otherwise intoxicated characters. Magic influencing peoples' emotional and mental state. Sleep deprivation, adrenaline, near-death experiences.
Thoughtful smut - You know that galaxy brain meme that went around where the highest level was "porn with math"? Yeah, that's me.
Poly - I only selected one triad for this (Dani/Sarah/Grace under Terminator) but I do really like poly relationships, and I’m generally okay with F/F/M as well, although I’d really prefer that the focus be on the women in the relationship. My only ask is that Catra (and Adora, for that matter) not be added to She-Ra pairings unless specifically requested or noted--I like them both a lot, I’ve requested them both together and separately, but I’d also like the spirit and the dynamics of the Adora- and Catra-related pairings I’ve requested for that fandom to be honored, and that rarepair requests not get rolled into & subsumed by the juggernaut pairing. (And, “requesting” can be either in the ~official request~ or in the prompts).
Following on that, though, I am a huge fan of complicated emotional dynamics. Liking two people at the same time but in different ways and for different things? Fan. Fucking someone and thinking of someone else? Awesome. Meaningful and unique present-day emotional relationship that doesn’t replace or assuage the pain of a past relationship and the longing for that person? Heaven. Complicated emotional dynamics are my Jam. As long as neither relationship is denigrated and the pairing requested is the focus of the fic.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Prompt Set 1: Adora/Glimmer, Perfuma/Adora, Adora/Mermista, Adora/Huntara, Huntara/Perfuma
My rarepairs!
These are the ships I ship because of canon moments, but are super rare in the fandom Because Reasons. And I like just about every ship in the fandom, but wanted to make sure these in particular got some love because they're fun, and I'm going to tell you why I like them, and some favorite tropes or prompts I have with them.
Adora/Glimmer- in PARTICULAR because of:
In 1x04 when Adora sneaks into Glimmer's room to sleep on the end of her bed.
Bed-sharing is a GREAT trope with these two, whether accidentally, purposefully, or "oh no there's only one bed".
In "The Shadows of Mystacor" where Glimmer straight-up falls asleep on Adora in little spoon position in the hot springs
The day of Glimmer's coronation where Adora confesses that Angella told her to "take care" of Glimmer (even though she told them to "take care of each other", which is also super fucking shippy for me) and then resolves that she's going to do that
In "Mer-mysteries", their argument sounds like a subtextual break-up, and I love that
The scene in "Beast Island" where Adora almost gives up and then remembers Angella's last words to her and remembers *Glimmer* and even if I'm not feeling very shippy it still just hits me right in the feels
The implication in "System Failure" (the s1 episode where Entrapta is introduced) that Adora smashes rocks for Glimmer's enjoyment. Just. Y'know. Glimmer getting her buff gf to move things around for her. Carry things. Like boulders. Especially when she lifts things over her head--
Perfuma/Adora - Gosh, I'm just super Here For how Perfuma looks at She-Ra. I'm also here for:
Perfuma and Adora getting high together and having adventures and making out a little and being happy and cozy together
I appreciate that Adora doesn't just immediately lose the femmephobia she was raised with in the Horde on joining the Rebellion (I think that would probably be more of a Process(TM) than they had time for onscreen) and so generally Adora being uncomfortable and kind of a jock but then getting shown up/put in her place. Obviously by the time Adora tells Huntara that Perfuma "is a demon in battle", she's wised up, but that's three whole seasons of material to work with :P
Anything with Perfuma trying to teach Adora how to relax/meditate (depending on your ADHD feels you can make that explicitly ADHD Adora--active meditation is a thing!)
Perfuma being Very Into her buff girlfriend and Adora being kind of a himbo
Adora/Mermista - I LOVE the energy with these two. Mermista especially feels like she's confident in her powers in a way that even Glimmer and Adora aren't--even though Adora and Glimmer are more experienced commanders/combatants. I feel like Mermista would enjoy Adora's cockier side that comes out when she's She-Ra.
Adora/Huntara - Adora's instant crush on Huntara when they meet in the Crimson Waste is one of the most memorable moments of the show for me, and this show has been very memorable, okay
Adorable butch4butch vibe
Competitive jocks competing jockily
Huntara feels very penitent by the end of the episode where they meet, I would love some penitent Huntara
I'm not sure what her fascination with She-Ra was, but in my head, it's not just about the haunted crashed spaceship, it's about something she knows about She-Ra from her time in the Wastes, and she holds some kind of reverence for her. Being a warrior woman and all
Would also like sad/thoughtful/wistful/quiet/aching moments with these two after the war where they're trying to adjust to like... living at peace. Or how they *can't* adjust to living at peace. And their shared or distinct experiences with the Horde.
For some reason, I really like the idea of Perfuma getting *both* Adora and Huntara high somehow and the three of them having a lot of fun but wow Adora and Huntara's stoned personalities. Just imagine the possibilities.
Huntara/Perfuma - OKAY. I *really* loved their dynamic in "Valley of the Lost". Just. *REALLY* loved it. The vast difference in perspectives, the suggestion that Perfuma liked Huntara but thought Huntara was prickly and didn't like her back, Huntara wondering if Perfuma can handle herself and then Perfuma showing literally *everybody* up.
Perfuma calling Huntara her "desert rose" is um. Fantastic.
I don't know if I see these two *dating* exactly, but I really just need the two of them to have Supremely Gay and Supremely Butch/Femme moments
I just have this feeling that Huntara could be Incredibly Smooth and sweep Perfuma off her feet for like. A mission. A ball, like Princess Prom. A dance. A party. A shindig. A ritual. What Have You.
(And I think being able to sweep Perfuma off her feet would go a long way towards making Huntara feel... more like herself, after uprooting her life and going back to the war and apparently getting chipped by Horde Prime. She is butch, she is rough, she is smart and competent and god knows she's tough, and in the Waste, she was on top, she was *the* top of the food chain. And here... maybe, sometimes, she feels inadequate. Here, she's just cannon fodder again. In the desert, she *knew* things that set her apart. Here, she's just... mildly informed.)
Prompt Set 2: Madame Razz/Mara, Mara/Light Hope, She-Ra Entity/Mara, Entrapta/Darla
I was going to call these my "Worldbuilding Set" of prompts, but then I realized that this could much more honestly be called "Weird--But Sweet--Xeno Prompts”.
Madame Razz/Mara - I was inspired in part by Noelle's remark that there's a note in the show bible that Madame Razz has dated "like, everyone in Etheria" because she's dislodged from linear time and has been around forever besides that.
Then I rewatched S1 and there was that scene where Razz tells Adora her and Mara used to go stargazing at the Crystal Castle. And there *was* the way she referred to Mara as "my Mara". And then I was sold.
I don't mean anything weird or kinky by it (which, no judgement if you do), just... idk, in my head, it's a very May/December dynamic, or, heh, maybe Mayfly-December dynamic, depending on how Razz does with linear time. And it sounds like on some level, Mara was kind of an apprentice to her? And, Mara is both very strong and competent and also just seems like this really gentle person? She seems very much like Steve Rogers lol.
Like there is a real potential for worldbuilding in here, too. But a lot of this dynamic is just very... peaceful and domestic.
Mara/Light Hope - GOD THESE TWO CAUSE ME PAIN. I love them. I love the tragedy of them. I love Light Hope's wobbly steps towards self-awareness and self-will. I love the hope of that journey. I love Mara's deepening connection with Etheria. I love the wonder of it. I love how she takes up the mantle of She-Ra in earnest.
And I love how inevitably the end comes up on them. How they're caught in events outside their control. I love how bravely they fight, and how brilliantly--and how it's not enough. I love how *powerful* they are, both of them, in their own specific ways, but they were maneuvered into this position by people who ensured they could keep the upper hand.
And I love how their love is still so strong that a thousand years later, it keeps Adora safe and proves to be their superiors' ultimate undoing. Catradora may have saved the universe in S5, but Marahope did it first.
Some prompts:
Any worldbuilding you want to do around the First Ones, the First Ones’ tech, the Heart of Etheria Project, Grayskull Squadron (ahaha that’s a Rogue Squadron/Rogue One reference isn’t it), She-Ra, the magic of Etheria, other runestones that were active in Mara’s time but are defunct by Adora’s, worldbuilding about the various kingdoms and Princesses, Mara learning from Light Hope, Light Hope learning from Mara... all of it
Light Hope falling in love with Mara--I just want to see how, and why, and what it was like for her, and what Mara did that set her apart from Light Hope’s other charges (if you think that there were others before Mara, which is kind of my base assumption but I’m absolutely willing to read another take), and just *gay noises*
Light Hope mentioned that there were “many” She-Ra/s before Mara, and while she did lie about a lot of things, a lot of her lies were lies of omission or shading of the truth, not just outright false--Mara did the damage to Etheria that she did, but LH lied about why, for instance. Or with the Portal Adora was brought through, Light Hope simply failed to mention that she was the one who brought Adora through it, and allowed Adora to continue in her assumption that Hordak was both the person who opened the portal and the one who brought her through. So, I’d be curious about Light Hope’s feelings for her other charges--was she serially and hopelessly into these magical warriors? Or was there something different about Mara?
Light Hope’s journey to self-will is TRAGIC and beautiful and I love it. And it sounds very much like something that happened over the course of different relationships with multiple people. And I want to hear about all of it and why it culminated when and how it did.
Light Hope training Mara
Mara being adorable?? Help???
Light Hope helping Mara get adjusted to her new role after she’s selected to be She-Ra
Light Hope adjusting to Mara after Mara is selected to be She-Ra
Mara experiencing Etheria’s magic
Light Hope being snarky at Mara while Mara sleeps with the Princesses has Normal Organic Relations with people and the two of them are pining for each other but neither of them really knows it consciously (after all, how would you date an AI? Would AIs date? There’s no social precedent for this. Is there?)
I would actually really like to see something with Mara and Light Hope doing what they came to Etheria to do and studying the planet’s magic, too
Magic and technology and xeno elements--Magical transformations, dreams, visions, new powers, coping with new powers, aliens!, virtual reality, telepathic/mental connections, uses of magic and tech for sex, etc.
Entrapta/Darla - I just love how horny on main Entrapta is for technology, and I love the observation that someone on the creative team shared that Entrapta sees tech as a living creature, and sees the “humanity” in it. I am open to anything here. Go wild.
She-Ra Entity/Mara - This is super niche and very worldbuilding-heavy, potentially, but I really love the idea of there being a relationship of sorts between not just Mara and She-Ra, but the She-Ra line and the She-Ra entity, going back to whenever the First Ones bound her to the Sword, and maybe even further back.
Queer spiritual & religious metaphors? In my fanfic? It's more likely than you think.
Prompt Set 3: Double Trouble/Catra, Castaspella/Shadow Weaver, Glimmer/Shadow Weaver, Catra/Glimmer
My trash children prompts! And by "trash children", I mean everything from "my genderpunk trash children" to "these two need a whole buddy comedy except they spend 95% of the film loathing each others' guts" to "holy wow student-teacher power imbalance".
Castaspella/Shadow Weaver - If you were wondering which pairing I thought "needs a whole buddy comedy", this is that pairing. Just like, a buddy comedy, but in a romantic way. They feel like they’d be great fodder for crackfic, because once you get Really Into the weeds of magic usage and these old family-related hatreds it gets either very technical and serious or just very ridiculous and honestly I like both options.
I have this very weird, very specific AU idea where the two of them have to go undercover as a married couple while simultaneously *loathing* each other and of course they bang it out eventually
I'm also a fan of whatever it is you think about them. I just about guarantee it.
Glimmer/Shadow Weaver - In my head, a lot of this is going to be after Glimmer’s coronation.
Their dynamic definitely has shades of “Glimmer is hurting and overwhelmed and will respond extremely well to a vaguely maternal figure no matter how vague or inappropriate”
There is always the lure of forbidden knowledge and Glimmer being high on the sense of competency and power and general ability to do things, which she probably feels she’s been denied all her life--and that have only been given to her at a huge personal cost. Glimmer might be mad at the world, mad at herself, mad at her mother.
I looooooooooooooove a good moral corruption story. I love how Glimmer seems like she’d be drawn to Shadow Weaver’s ruthlessness, especially after her interactions with Catra and how Catra tricked them constantly and weaponized their good natures and intentions against them
I've seen people point out that this seems like an appropriate pairing for tentacles and I have to say I agree.
Double Trouble/Catra - I don't know *why* I found it so endearing when Double Trouble would show the slightest basic kindness to Catra and Catra would just... melt? I mean, fine, they were getting paid to care, and DT was probably really interested in the drama too.
But then, you have the two of them egging each other on at being terrible, too. Being devious and misbehaved. I just need the two of them being my trash children. My gender-nonconforming queer punk trash children. Who make out sometimes, or have this... tension between them. Who might turn on each other sometimes, but god help you if you come after either one.
Catra/Glimmer - Idk, I especially enjoy them after seeing their dynamic in S5. I would love to see more of them doing... whatever, basically. I love how alike they are, and the ways they're different. And I love how Glimmer warms to Catra.
Catra annoying Glimmer. Because she is a cat.
Glimmer *getting* Catra, because they are a *lot* alike in some ways.
... And also any kind of "the aliens made them do it" smut fic you want to write about while they're out in space
Avatar: The Legend of Korra
Korra/Raava, Korra/Kuvira, Asami Sato/Lin Beifong, Korra/Lin Beifong, Kuvira/Opal
Korra/Raava - Kind of like with the She-Ra/Mara pairing under SPOP, I like there being an actual "relationship" between the mystical entity and the human connected to that entity. I'm not really looking for smut here, unless you're really feeling it, but any take on that is welcome.
Korra/Kuvira - This is, like, the opposite of Korra/Raava. Lol. All my rough pairing things apply:
Physical roughness. Can include rough sex, adrenaline/post-fight sex, sparring, or just actual fighting. Two women with dirt and blood streaking their skin snarling and circling each other? Perfect. Women who are scraped and sweaty and
Mystical elements - Reversal lol, but I do like mystical healing, telepathic or empathic connections
Redemption arc stuff for Kuvira, bc obvs.
Neither of them seem particularly prone to indulging in substances, but if they did, or if there was an AU, I do also love it when two warrior types get intoxicated together somehow
Asami Sato/Lin Beifong - Idk, I feel like Asami has probably gotten in trouble before, right? And I don’t see Lin being very moved by flirting, but I could totally see Asami making a pass at her and it backfiring lol--maybe even before she met the Avatar.
And then after that, Asami worked alongside Lin when she started working with the Avatar. And then she's worked with Lin in a non-bending professional capacity for a while too, post-s3. Idk. Maybe they have pre-Avatar interactions, or interactions that don’t revolve around the plot of Avatar, and there’s some kind of romantic or sexual Thing between them?
Korra/Lin Beifong - I have a few dynamics I like with these two:
Grumpy/sunshine pairing
The sunshine one is superpowered
Sparring with a D/S flavor
A lot of the “rough pairing” notes I made for Korra/Kuvira apply here, too, except there’s not so much of a rivalmancy going on
Under the Muppet Theory of Relationships, I’d probably place Lin on the Order Muppet side and Korra on the Chaos Muppet side.
Kuvira/Opal - Mostly thinking post-rehabilitation for Kuvira. The two of them find each other again and a lot has changed.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Katara/Azula, Toph Beifong/Katara
Katara/Azula - If you like me are into this ship--thank god I’m not the only one. I don’t know why I like the idea of the dynamic between them so much--Azula’s conviction of her right to rule, her redemption arc that never materialized, Katara’s involvement with the Avatar, the opposing natures of their powers, Katara’s mastery vs. Azula’s. It’s just *clenches fist* phenomenal fodder for enemies-to-lovers, the trauma they both carry, the different monsters they have inside them.
Toph Beifong/Katara - These two were super fucking adorable and had the best tomboy/femme vibe and I would like to see more of that dynamic at literally any point throughout their lives. Alternately, I am up for any ideas you have about them.
Terminator (Movies)
Grace Harper/Dani Ramos - THE LOYALTY. THE TRAGEDY. THE KNEELING.
Grace Harper/Sarah Connor - I am game for anything: Grace lives, Grace dies, Grace rises from the dead a vampire (j/k. Unless you’re into that idea). Unlike the other two pairings here, I really like the roughness and snark between them, the fact that they don’t entirely get along even when they’re nominally getting along. They feel like they’re constantly competing, and I would love for that competition to either extend to the bedroom or for them to work their differences out through banging or for meditation on how Grace reminds Sarah of Kyle or--
Dani Ramos/Sarah Connor - I wonder sometimes if Sarah calms down once Grace is gone, mostly because they’re no longer in immediate danger, but also because Grace seems to really chafe for Sarah more than Dani. Sarah seems almost soft in her regard for Dani, and I love that and I love how it comes from this sympathy she feels for Dani’s position. It feels really rare for her, and I love the juxtaposition of her roughness, grief, and caring.
For these two, I’d be really curious about anything that happens post-Dark Fate.
Dani Ramos/Sarah Connor/Grace Harper - I like all three of the above pairings, so why not put all three of them together? I think it’d be fun. Especially if the three of them are on the road together after the events of Dark Fate in an AU where Grace lives. Road trips, cyborgs, time travel, and gay sex.
Grace Harper/OFC, Dani Ramos/OFC - I know a lot of people really like the idea of Grace only ever having been with or interested in Dani, or vice versa, but I kind of feel like having more experience would make them better lovers when they’re with each other. Things I like a lot with this:
Grace blowing off steam with another Augment
Grace having drunk/high sex with another Augment
Dani occasionally sleeping with Augments when she doesn’t have Grace and really needs the comfort
The two of them fucking other people and thinking about each other
The two of them fucking and thinking about the other version of their partner
Worldbuilding for Dani’s post-Judgement Day world through the lens of femslash
