Con O'Neill interview with Awards Radar's Steven Prusakowski 😭😭😭❤❤❤
SP: Busy time of year, but, you know, starting to slow down in just enough to hang out with the family and do all the cooking for, like 48 hours and then.
Con: Are you the main cook in the house?
SP: I am the main cook.
Con: Yeah. So am I. I love it.
SP: I love it, too.
Con: It's my go to place.
SP: Yeah.
Con: Because when I left school, I trained to be a chef.
SP: Oh, wow.
Con: Briefly. Another story.Okay, let's rock and roll.
SP: Well, that passion never leaves you, I think. I think once you start, especially when someone enjoys and says, hey, I really liked your food.I hear from my daughter's friends or their parents, she loved your pasta or whatever it was, I'm like, okay, now I'm...
Con: It's the best feeling, isn't it?
SP: It is. It's wonderful.
Con: And just that kind of inherent, nurturing thing of just going into the kitchen empty handed and coming out with a meal for people is really rewarding. And I love it. It's intoxicating. I absolutely love it.
SP: Same here.
Con: Because I travel so much, I don't always get a place with a kitchen. And that's why I always try and get an apartment when I'm filming because it just gives me a place to be in my head that isn't about work.
SP: Yeah. Yeah. Well, I can talk cooking forever, but-
Con: But we should.
SP: I know we're short on time and I have a ton of questions and I won't get to all of them. So let's just jump into the series and maybe we could pick it back up. Sorry to interrupt, but I love the series. I love your character and your performance.
Con: Thank you.
SP: It's a stellar, and there's so much to Izzy that we see on the surface, but there's so much more to him beneath. How was this character originally pitched you and what did you initially want to bring to him?
Con: The thing about this character was he wasn't in the pilot. So when I spoke to David about it, there was nothing written. So he explained it in very broad terms. But then I quite like specifics when I'm choosing projects. And kind of... he brought up Salieri from Amadeus, and I really hooked into that. Now, I don't know whether we went that way with it in the end, but it was a really good hook for me because Salieri is that guy with a mission who is on the surface wanting, but is underneath something else. And I think initially, Izzy was that, but then we exploded him in several other ways and Salieri diminished to something else. But it was a good hook for me
initially to get in by thinking about Salieri.
SP: Yeah, I like it. I could see that for sure. And to start the season two. So going into that, he's a shadow of himself from this feared, intense, strong man to a broken man. And what was it like taking this character and exposing that humanity and starting to peel away some of that shield.
Con: I mean... David had spoken to me before we started shooting and explained most of the hulk to me, and I'd always played Izzy as a man who was in love but didn't know he was in love. And for me, the key into this season was a. the design, but more importantly, was the Taika's performance. To see a man that I love to be that broken and to be that vicious because of the heartbreak, it was profound for me to see what he did with Blackbeard, and it did break my heart a little bit. So the emotional journey was quite clear that at the end of the day, all hatred of Stede had left him, and all he wanted to do is fix Blackbeard, and he risks his life to do that. He literally puts himself on the line for that because, like always. And what I loved about what David and the writers did was they didn't remove Izzy from season one in season two, he's still there. And what Izzy does is about the crew. He puts his life on the line because Blackbeard is killing his crew, and he risks it all for that. But it breaks him seeing the the man he loves so fragile and broken and angry, it breaks him. So, It wasn't an easy job. It was quite a lonely job. It was quite a difficult job because it was going down that path that I knew inevitably we were going to go down. But I thought it was beautifully written. So most of what I needed to do was on the page, to be honest-
SP: -I'm sorry-
Con: I just had to throw myself into it.
SP: Excellent. And then with Izzy being broken and literally broken, he loses his leg, which is symbolic of much more. It leads to one of the most touching moments of the series, a note with four words: For The New Unicorn. What did that mean to you, and what does that mean to the character?
Con: You know, I've been talking a lot last couple of days - because I'm allowed to now - and, you know, this season is about Izzy coming out. In many ways, he comes out, but that moment, that rest, that beautiful piece of writing again, the writing, where the crew embrace him, and it just releases him. It releases him from his own concept of who he is. It releases him from his own concept of who he has to
be to be a first mate and a brilliant first mate. It released him of concept that he's alone. None of this would have been possible to Izzy pre season one, none of it. And in many ways, it's Stede that brings this into his life. Because before Stede, Izzy never thought of his relationship with Blackbeard as a loving relationship. He never thought of it as being in love. He only realizes he's in love with Blackbeard when he sees Blackbeard lose Stede. That's the only... The reveal is he's heartbroken because the man he loves is broken, and he doesn't know what to do with any of that. He's not emotionally capable. And the crew giving him the letter and calling him the new unicorn and releasing him from all the stuff that he'd done, all that pain that he'd suffered and anger that he'd raged upon them, it's a really accepting moment. So... yeah, I'm waffling a bit now, but it meant a lot, and it was a very beautiful moment to play. And I thought Andy, who directed it, directed it so...Andy was a real shoulder for me to lean on in those scenes, because a lot of those early scenes I'm shooting on my own. And it's quite difficult to play an emotional narrative when you're on your own, because it tends to just be one tone. And he was wonderful, and Alyssa and Alex and all. They were all wonderful in helping me gauge those moments, as were the rest of the cast. But, yeah, that moment touched me enormously.
SP: You know, you have this love triangle that is never really spoken, but it's there.
Con: Yeah
SP: Then it kind of shifts - it's almost like a love square. It's Ed, Blackbeard, Izzy and Stede. And where the love, you know, crosses, it's all... or the hatred is at sometimes, but then it evolves...
Con: Absolutely.
SP: It's so complex.
Con: I mean we all're in contemporary language. We always associate love with romance. That isn't the case here. The love that Blackbeard and Izzy have for each other is deep, man. It's deep, and it's rooted in years of working together, loving each other, saving each other's lives, being constant. This is probably the only constant they both had in their lives, is Blackbeard is Izzy, Izzy is Blackbeard, and then they have this buffoon come in and steal Blackbeard's heart. It's not that Blackbeard falls in love with someone else. Blackbeard falls in love with this guy. This Izzy just can't comprehend, and it's a constant. And then once, I think once Blackbeard hands him the gun, everything changes. And Blackbeard says, kill yourself. Everything changes. And then there's an openness to Stede and Blackbeard that brings him to that place of acceptance-
SP: -It's great to watch also. I'm sorry. Go ahead.
Con: No, that. I mean, I'll waffle again. I'll waffle a lot, because that's what I do. But the more I think about that relationship, the more I go down all these different avenues of what it could have been, and what it could never have been, and what it is and what it wasn't. And as you say, it's layered and complex, and I'm honored to have been able to get to play with those actors, and especially with Taika, who's a profoundly good actor - everyone talks about Taika's director and writer - the man's a fucking great actor to work opposite, and he's... he's exquisite. So, yeah, I could only go where I went because the writers and Taika. Really.
SP: That's great. I... of course, we have to touch upon the end of the season and the end of Izzy, unfortunately, which I'm hoping is not. I'm hoping David has something up his sleeve. But what was your reaction when you learned it and how emotional was shooting that final scene? Because that final scene says a lot between...
Con: It was a... listen, I've been around a long time. The writing was on the wall when I started to read the scripts, and David had kind of hinted at it anyway when we went out for the famous dinner where he told me what the plan was, and I was gutted because I loved playing him so much. But, yeah, narratively, yeah, it makes sense. And I have complete faith, respect, love, admiration for David Jenkins, and whatever he thinks or wants to happen in season three will be the right thing if he gets season three, which I, whether I'm involved in it or not, I really hope he gets it, because he deserves it. And the show deserves it. The show deserves its triangle. It deserves it. But, yeah, it took a few days to sink in, and then I was fine. I was incredibly tired by that time. And I was lonely, as... really lonely because I was so far away from home filming all these scenes, and I tended to isolate when I was filming because of the nature of the work. So when I wasn't filming, I was sword training, or I was working out, or I was learning to walk on that fucking leg, or I was whatever whatever whatever. So I found myself isolating a lot. And in a way, it was a relief to be released from it. The final scene David had sent to me several weeks earlier. And I prepped, as I always do, and I prepped and I prepped and we were going to shoot at the beginning of the last week, and then it got shifted to the middle of the last week, and then it got shifted to the morning of the last day, and then it was shifted to the last thing we were going to shoot in the entire season. And there's always a dark cloud around those scenes because you never quite know how it's going to play. And there's a lot of pressure. And it being the last thing we were going to shoot, put more pressure on. And we were on the ship, which is a huge set, hundreds of crew members, the cast, everyone who could possibly be there was there. And I was getting quite unsettled by the amount of cacophony of noise and people. And then we rigged it all up, and it was still just [noise]. And then suddenly it was just me and Taika and just saying goodbye to a character we both fell in love with. And it was... it was a, I'm saying 'profound' a lot, but it was a profound experience doing that scene because everything else disappeared. It was just me and him. It was just Izzy and Blackbeard. And it was a lovely lovely moment.
SP: It was painful, but-
Con: It was lovely to be held by-
SP: -beautiful to watch.
Con: Yeah. Thank you. I mean, it's lovely to be held by another actor just... creatively and likewise with me to him. And David had a playlist playing and it was... elegant to do. It was nice to do. It was a nice, fitting ending to that chapter of this character. And I'll always be grateful that they shot it in that way.
SP: I do have to wrap. I just want to say before we do, I really enjoyed your rendition of La Vie En Rose. fantastic.
Con: Thank you.
SP: That's beautiful. And I appreciate all the work you did in the series, and I hope we see you again. And hopefully maybe you'll have a cooking show too, along the way, because I'd love to see what you make in that kitchen.
Con: Come on and let's bake together. Oh, I can't bake. I'll cook. It's lovely l ovely talking to you, Stephen.
SP: Great talking to you as well. Have a great day.
Con: Thank you. Bye bye.
SP: Thank you.

A video from Technoblade’s point of view on the Dream SMP, he’s chasing Jack Manifold into the ‘Holy Land’, as Antfrost follows them both.
Techno: -ver! It’s all over! Oh, this is actually the peaceful land.
Jack runs into ‘Church Prime’ where he is protected from violence and everyone starts talking at the same time.
Ant: Techno, this is- (indistinguishable)
Jack: This is holy land! Technoblade, this is holy land, you can’t hit people here!
Techno: Oh, this is holy land.
Techno begins laughing as he eats a golden carrot.
Jack paces back and forth in the entrance of ‘Church Prime’, a few steps away from Techno and Ant who are stood on the path.
Jack: I don’t have a shield.
Techno checks his inventory and looks at his diamond pickaxe, he has both Fire Resistance and Regeneration affecting him, he leaves his inventory to look at Jack as he starts speaking.
Jack: Well! In this case I’m gonna do what any noble warrior would do!
Jack leaves the game completely and both Techno and Ant start laughing.
Techno: It’s the unbeatable strategy!

We don’t exactly live in a world built for humans, do we?  There’s no guidebook for happiness or success or a sense of place in the world, and the people claiming to have one are really just trying to sell you something.  We spend most of our little lives trying to make these feelings fade away, or find something to replace them. […] I know it’s  little pretentious but we’re all searching for a sense of meaning and purpose in our lives, and those things are hard to come by.  There’s a little bit of nothing in all of us.  And we’d like to fill it with something. Opening your web-browser and seeing someone who seems to have it figured out – making you feel better and entertaining you, and seeming to attract an audience on this roulette wheel of a planet – that’s powerful.  There’s someone who seems to understand what they’re supposed to be doing.  And it’s working.  That’s all anyone really wants. Sure, in retrospect, a bunch of people wanting to be exactly like the [Angry Video Game Nerd] sounds silly, but he knew who he was: he was the angriest gamer you’ve ever heard.  We can laugh -  in fact, you’re supposed to – but that’s a human being with purpose.  There’s someone who’s not anxious about their place in the world anymore.    It’s very difficult not to want that completeness for yourself.  Not to just be like someone but to be them – to attain that sense of knowing.  In real life, James Rolfe is a human being, with all sorts of problems and fears, but that doesn’t stop people from wanting to be like the person he seems: someone who knows their place in the world. […] I do worry that there are people out there who will never get the chance to become who they are because they’re too busy trying to be like someone else – who at best has it figured out for themselves just a little bit. I feel like I know who I am, and how to live my life, and that makes me feel happy and somewhat complete.  And I don’t think I’d have ever found myself if I was trying to chase someone else’s sense of completeness.  Basically, no one knows how to live your life.  And you might not either.  But the only person who’s going to figure it out is you.  And you won’t find that by trying to be ‘the next That-Person’. You can only be the first of whoever it is that you are.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
🎃👻🍬🍭🍫🍁🙀🧣🎃
Video description:
Jack, a cute fat transmasculine white person with short dark hair, talks animatedly at the camera. His face and neck are covered in spooky black-and-white face paint that makes him look like an off-brand-Junji-Ito version of Frankenstein's monster. He is also wearing opaque mirror Spirit Halloween Store mad scientist goggles on his head, which he puts on and off his eyes throughout the video.

So.
*clicks tongue*
Good news. It is Halloween. It might not look like Halloween, but it is because I'm writing a Harvest Festival Halloween chapter in my graphic novel, which means it's fucking Halloween, until I say it ain't! ... um unless you don't want to-but it's Halloween.
No, this is not a filter. I did all of this, and the edibles hit right in the middle - I got a little carried away!
But!
Uh...
Yeah, good news isz-Halloween.
Um... *clicks tongue*
Can't think of anything else to say...
*suddenly passionate* I still--! the amount of fucking white paint needed to make me- make the white face paint show up at ALL on my pale-ass-- on my pale, pale skin is insane!! I just--it's nonsense!
*Jack indicates where the white paint ends on his neck*
You can barely tell where it stops, right? There's-- it's showing through in a few places - I spent so long just trying to remember how to paint my face white!
Anyway, good news Hallowee--hapy-- Hap-- ... HAp-ny Halloweens.
*pause*
*cracks up, cackling loudly, a deep belly laugh that makes Jack look like a mad scientist in this outfit*
*stops and looks into the camera with an expression of delighted surprise. and then, in a distinctly fruity manner:*
Oo, I look so spooky!!

[ Input Received. Transmission Begins. ]
[The video clicks on to immediate view of a rust red human eye taking up the whole of the screen, before theres some shaking as the view moves to show Jasprix’s whole face, scars on his face old and visible with the new angle provided, with what could be a park and green grass behind him. It is noticeably bright and the sun is shining on his face and making him squint in annoyance, mouth half open and sharp teeth visible, black horns on his head visible but the tops cut off from the top of the cameras view.]
Jasprix: Fucking nice, video’s working. Can’t believe Devon uninstalled every app including this one. Fucking old asshole.
[He grins, sharp teeth fully visible as the video shifts and turns around, to pan around the area. Bright daylight surrounding the grassy park like area, with a large pond. Ducks are floating farther in where they can’t be reached by land. Homes and other buildings visible and close by. Other people are around, walking and going about their own days, though none are close enough for audio to be picked up yet.]
Jasprix: I found this place before a fucking restaurant. That’s fine with me. Look at this pond, definitely deeper then one of the fountains.
[The angle shifts down to show just the large pond, only part of it able to be on screen at a time, the rest cut off besides the area he’s showing. Getting smaller as he lowers himself to the grass and puts the phone right up to the surface of the water.]
Jasprix: Wonder if there’s fish in there. All the walking made me starved.
[The way it’s said, especially when he laughs afterwards, sounds like a threat how he snarled it.]
Jasprix: breakfast restaurant with it’s goddamn smells and nothing I can actually eat. Screw them.
[He brings the phone back up to face him as he looks around, searching, then he leans down and moves something, putting the phone in the grass leaning to still point towards him instead of up at the sky. It gives a good view of the rest of him. The overlarge black hoodie over equally ill fitted black shirt. His long pointed ears less elf like and more resembling ear fins as the other two points and webbing underneath can be seen briefly when the wind pushes his hair aside.]
[For a moment, when he turns, the camera catches sight of the 2ft long axolotl tail swaying slightly behind him, mostly hidden by the limp black wings that pop out from under the hem of his shirt and hoodie, like a feathered cloak stuck under the fabric. He’s not wearing shoes, and his feet are webbed between his toes.]
[He lets out a deep sigh, and crouches, knees bent and hands resting in the grass between his legs, the black sharp horns finally fully visible on his head where they curl back, equally black long hair obscuring his face from view as he leans forward, tail waving slowly side to side]
Jasprix: Hmm, well. I’ll check first before I go in fully. Probably wouldn't be taken too well if I stripped off to swim properly and came out without any fish. Would be annoying, though I guess I could get one of those birds...
[He side eyes the camera, smirk showing parts of his fangs again, as the previously smooth skin of his neck opened, the gills fanning open and closed searching for water to filter. He sniffed and quickly got flat on his stomach, dunking his head into the water up to the base of his neck, while the rest of his body relaxed in the grass, the lower portion of his form out of the camera’s frame.]
[Transmission has Ended after video exceeded length limit with several minutes of no movement detected.]

Collected Miscellany
<Transcribed from the subtitles of the Collected Miscellany video series on the Genshin Impact YouTube channel. Collected here for the purpose of trying to make Dainsleif less of a cryptic bastard and to be used as a resource for lore. The portion of the videos dedicated to their abilities and use in combat not transcribed because ain't nobody got time for that. Some punctuation added for clarity.>
Venti: Skyward Sonnet
A mysterious bard named Venti has recently appeared in the world. Singing tales for the city of freedom and romance. This city is Mondstadt, the Crown of the North. A free nation with no ruler. This once bitter-cold land in the north of Teyvat is now fertile. A blessing left by the God of Anemo, they say. A thousand years have passed since the God of Anemo left this land. But to me, it has only been half that time.
Venti: Come on, Traveler, Let’s go! The world is full of lost ballads just waiting to be rediscovered.
As we all know, poetry and language flow like the wind… Venti captures this spirit in his ballads. Flora and fauna he sings of seem to have a life of their own, and transport us to the moon and stars. This self-proclaimed “Best Bard of the Mortal World” gets his strength, his unwithering inspiration from the wind. But what Venti seeks in life is not eternal fame for his ballads. Rather, he’d be happy with a cup of wine and a lyre to sing the marvelous stories of the world. Yes, that would make Venti the Bard  very content indeed.
Diluc: Dawn
As the Dawn Winery’s owner, Diluc dominates Mondstadt’s alcohol industry. Wealth and information are at his fingertips. Modest and refined, yet wick to act whenever Mondstadt faces a crisis. What caused him to choose this path? Hmm, how very curious.
Diluc: There must be those who dare to pierce the darkness with their light.
Diluc’s explosive, ruthless fighting style and his aloof manner are all admirable traits, but if the disaster from five centuries ago were to happen again, if he were to face the same evil that I once did… would he still hold fast to his resolve? This, too, makes me most curious indeed.
Klee: Jumpy Dumpty
There are many remarkable people in Mondstadt’s Knights of Favonius. Among them is a small knight who razed Stormbearer Mountains flat and whose name has recently become commonplace both within Mondstadt and beyond. When it comes to "Spark Knight" Klee, there are rumors aplenty. Interestingly, those telling these rumors do so with a smirk and a shake of their heads, joking that even Mondstadt's fish have learned to swim away when they see her.
Klee: Can I come play with you today? Pleeease? I wanna go on an adventure!
When the people of Mondstadt talk about their home they proudly call with the city of wind, dandelions, and freedom. Perhaps it was Mondstadt's atmosphere of freedom that led the famous adventurer Alice to entrust her daughter Klee to the care of the Knights of Favonius. With this freedom, Klee has had a happy and unrestrained childhood. But all baby birds must leave the nest someday. Hopefully our little Spark Knight will remain just as happy-go-lucky when that day comes and keep smiling all the way.
Jean: Guiding Breeze
When Grand Master Varka of Mondstadt's Knight of Favonius left on an expedition, his role passed to Jean, the eldest daughter of House Gunnhildr. The young Acting Grand Master had become a skilled swordswoman (Note: voice line says swordsman) through hard work, and works harder still for the sake of the Knights. Self-sacrifice, after all, is the Dandelion Knight's path.
Jean: As the wind continues to blow, so too shall I continue to fight.
Though Jean may lack experience, Mondstadt has only prospered since she assumed Varka's great responsibilities. Even I, who has seen countless people, must respect her desire to always defend Mondstadt. But unlike most who bear great burdens this young knight has remained as tenacious as ever. How was her will molded, and what sustains her edge such that it never wears down? If fate wills it, I will find the answer to these questions...
Qiqi: Fortune-Preserving Talisman
Children as special as Qiqi are few and far between. As a zombie, time has no effect on her, but she has difficulty committing things to memory. For Qiqi, perhaps this is a good thing. She can forget her past, and be an herb gatherer at Bubu Pharmacy. But those who underestimate her just for being a child do so at their peril
Qiqi: I am Qiqi. I am a zombie. And I forget what comes next.
As a zombie, Qiqi has escaped the grip of both time and death. How Qiqi entered this state of existence, I do not know. But I doubt it was of her own volition. Are the heavenly principles toying with her? Or is fate seeking to torture her? Is an ordinary life of simple pleasures really a thing so fragile?
Mona: Stellaris Phantasm
The stars illuminate all mortal destinies, though few have eyes to perceive their meaning. But Mona, an astrologist newly arrive in Mondstadt, is able to read the fates of others through stars reflected in the water. But while no phenomenon is hidden from the astrologist Mona, she struggles often with the minutiae of daily life. It is a most common predicament. The more you seek truth, the more simple joys elude you...
Mona: This was ordained by fate! Long had I foreseen it.
Mona's hydromancy is indeed unique. No one can deny her intelligence and talent. Within Mondstadt, there are few who possess the ability and a desire to seek truth equal to hers. But beware, O young seeker, you must sacrifice your all to unravel the world's secrets. Can the astrologist Mona truly bear such a burden?
Keqing: Starward Sword
Everyone in Liyue knows it is Rex Lapis who protects their borders, but the city's daily affairs are run by the Qixing. As Yuheng of the Qixing, Keqing acts decisively and pragmatically, knowing every inch of Liyue like the back of her hand. Yet as a representative of the mortals of Liyue, she has much to say about Rex Lapis' unilateral governance.
Keqing: We live in an era of change, as the old order that has existed for a thousand years is about to be rewritten.
Human history is to be written by the people. Even without the protection of the gods, Liyue would flourish as always--this is Keqing's belief. This desire to take fate into her own hands--I remember this feeling... Will she be able to bring her vision to life? To protect this land she calls home? In the hands of the Qixing, where is Liyue headed? The road ahead is unclear, but we shall wait and see.
Childe: Foul Legacy
The Fatui from Snezhnaya are known to make waves wherever they go in Teyvat. And Tartaglia is a driving force within them. Of the Eleven Harbingers, ten concern themselves with clandestine operations. Tartaglia is the sole exception. Rather than lure his enemies into a trap, he prefers to face them head on in one-on-one combat.
Childe: The wind is picking up, there is conflict in the air.
Few know where Tartaglia acquired his fighting skills before becoming a Harbinger. Nor do many know where his lust for combat originates. There is a dangerous secret to the martial legacy he inherits, but it is one that even he himself does not fully understand. Since becoming a Fatui Harbinger, fighting for the Tsaritsa is his new motivation as a warrior. "Childe" is the Tsaritsa's weapon of war. And he stands for the might of Snezhnaya. An icy storm is starting to blow towards the other nations. Brace yourselves, Teyvat is about to get cold.
Zhongli: Dominance of Earth
When it comes to Liyue's sacred traditions, the divinity is in the details. Even the most fastidious of academics don't claim to know them all. And yet, the mysterious funeral consultant, Zhongli, seems to know them like the back of his hand. The ancient Rite of Parting is a most unique tradition. Many details have been lost over time. But Zhongli is still able to perform the Rite to perfection. Though he looks young, Zhongli knows each ancient tradition inside out. But his own past is shrouded in mystery.
Zhongli: Every journey has its final day, don't rush.
While Liyue Harbor grows restless on the eve of disaster, as the host of the Rite of Parting Zhongli still calmly goes about his work. The world around him may be descending into chaos, yet he remains unperturbed, sipping his tea and watching a good show. Quite the fascinating character. As Liyue faces the turbulence of change, does he believe it is none of his business? Or is he also a player in this game, acting behind the scenes? It may be some time before the answers finally emerge... But no matter, for time is not something I lack.
Albedo: Kreideprinz
The City of Pastorals, Mondstadt, is as free as the wind. Even an outsider like Albedo can become Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius. But on the other hand, his mastery of alchemy means that no-one ever would have taken much persuading. Mondstadt was never a nation known for its alchemy. But since Albedo's arrival the Knights' achievements in the field sit only behind those of Sumeru's top scholars. "Knights" and "academics"... not two words that one would expect to hear in the same sentence.
(No voice line from this character)
No-one can dispute Albedo's talent, but the source of the knowledge he possesses... It once brought about the destruction of a glorious nation. All that most people know of him is his title, "Kreideprinz" and that he gained his position in the Knights on recommendation from Alice, the adventurer. Beyond this, the young man is a stranger to them, a complete mystery. And the essence of his knowledge is equally unknown. But I know it well. It hails from Khaenri'ah: The Art of Khemia. Soil and chalk, the universe and earth, pure dust and the birth of human life... There is no mistaking it. I am content to watch most crises play out from the sidelines, but if Albedo were ever to make a single wrong move... I could not let myself ignore it.
Ganyu: Ambling Amidst Karst Peaks
Given Liyue's present prosperity it's only natural that the city's operational support should match its scale. For millennia, from the birth of the Liyue Qixing to its current roster of seven, they've all relied on the Yuehai Pavilion's secretary. The half-qilin illuminated beast, Ganyu, who assists the mortals in handling the most crucial matters. Although I detest deities, and have no liking for the adepti who signed contracts with the Geo Archon, a person like Ganyu is still deserving of my respect.
Ganyu: My job is to honor my contract with Rex Lapis by looking out for the interests of all living things in Liyue.
The Liyue Qixing has changed over generations. Centuries have passed in the blink of an eye. Ganyu's accompanied Liyue through many a storm. But Liyue harbor itself-- Can this city really become a safe harbor for an adeptus in the world of mortals? When the Geo Archon Morax was alive, an adeptus like Ganyu could find a sense of belonging in the human city. But at present, when the Rite of Parting has already marked his end, the loneliness of an "inhuman" living in the human world; will it take Ganyu over completely...?
Xiao: Conqueror of Demons
Many fell in the Archon War. But though their life force faded, their power and malice survived as remnants posing a continued threat to the world. In Liyue the task of ending this threat, or rather, enduring it falls to Xiao. To most in Liyue Xiao is a name seldom heard, and as the few who have seen him can attest he appears only when grave danger is nigh... Coming across this adeptus, should one count their blessings, or their curses?
Xiao: Conquering demons is what I do
For millennia, tales of the yaksha have been told in Liyue. But over time these defenders of the masses have all but disappeared. Only Xiao still honors his contract with the Geo Archon by performing the duties assigned to him. Though the cost of this duty is perpetual solitude... I know that adepti suffer heartache just as I do, but I cannot know Xiao's future. Will Xiao be ravaged by the unending war he wages and be plunged into despair? Or will he meet someone who understands his sacrifice and can shine a ray of light into his dark world...
Hu Tao: Fragrance in Thaw
The people of Liyue value tradition, and their traditions are embodied in all manner of rites. Of these, the rites that mark life's end are of utmost importance. Liyue's funeral rites are complex, and only Wangsheng Funeral Parlor can conduct them to the satisfaction of all. Wangsheng has stood for 77 generations and has gained still greater fame in recent years thanks to their eccentric young director, Hu Tao.
Hu Tao: When the sun's out, bathe in sunlight. But when the moon's out, bathe in moonlight.
Wangsheng Funeral Parlor conducts rites of utmost solemnity, and its staff are used to speaking little making Hu Tao's liveliness seem an ill fit. Her elders once criticized her mischief-making, but having seen her immaculate conduct of the parlor's affairs they could do naught but admit their error. Life and death are but two halves of an endless cycle. Life leads unto death, and death unto new life--why, then, should death be taboo? Hu Tao has had the wisdom to see this, though some of her elders have yet to do so.
Rosaria: Purger of the Shadows
Mondstadt's Church of Favonius has a very unique sister--Rosaria. Despite being a priestess, she has never been witnessed offering prayers to the gods. Swift of foot and aloof in speech, she becomes active in the darkness of Mondstadt's night. She belongs to a clandestine side of Mondstadt, brandishing sharp blades under the moonlight to strike down intruding shadows. In exchange for the people's freedom and peace, the nonbeliever is tasked with purging the filth that no light will touch. Hm... City blessed by the Anemo Archon... sleep soundly.
Rosaria: Pray, Not for the gods nor the betterment of others... but for yourself.
Mondstadt's nights are peaceful and tranquil. But in the quiet of the dark, there are those who glimpse a flash of cold steel. This is the dour sister who metes out punishment to protect this place of peace, and the sisters who are purity incarnate. Unperturbed with dirtying her hands, she has become a blood-soaked executioner. And having witnessed the cruelty of this world, she can no longer close her eyes and extol the blessings of the gods. Rosaria, the most unique sister in Mondstadt's Church of Favonius, never needed redemption from the gods, for she grasped it with her own hands.
Yanfei: Blaze of Legal Brilliance
Liyue is both the nation of contracts and the beating heart of trade in Teyvat. Its laws are rigorous and exhaustive, serving as pillars of order in a fluid population. But those able to memorize and abide by all the laws of the land number few indeed. Accordingly, when civil disputes and criminal proceedings arise the first point of call for many is Liyue Harbor's fames legal adviser--Yanfei.
Yanfei: Only by adhering to the law can the people solve life's myriad of problems.
Yanfei was born during Liyue's peacetime. Though part illuminated beast, she never signed a contract with the Geo Archon. Unconstrained by adepti responsibility, she keeps herself busy in the city. Experiencing all manner of worldly affairs, comprehending all levels of human emotion. In her hands the legal codices are a contract, a tool, a framework of reason, but never a cage. She longs for a free-spirited life well within the confines of the law. But each detail of the cumbersome legal codices is also dear to her heart. Perhaps one day, a balance can be struck between them.
Eula: Surging Frost
Ever since the first Knight of Favonius rid herself of her chains, the winds of freedom have carried the fight against oppression into every corner of Mondstadt. Yet today, among the ranks of the knights sworn to champion freedom, there walks a descendant of the former tyrannical aristocracy. Eula, the progeny of an infamous lineage, with vengeance always on her lips, is the captain of the Knights of Favonius Reconnaissance Company. The Sprindrift Knight, supremely skilled with her blade. Her controversial heritage leaves many wondering why the Knights would accept her. Perhaps because the songs of freedom woven into the Mondstadt winds first asked... why not?
Eula: Ready for reconnaissance.
There are those with hatred in their hearts that are able to do what Eula has done: take the lust for vengeance bequeathed to them by fate and channel it into a force for self-advancement. (Note: footage shows clips of Diluc and Kaeya) For Eula, this has set her down a path of peace and inner strength. Still there are others for whom the passage of time does nothing to quell the poison spreading through their souls. (Note: footage shows clip of Dainsleif and Aether) Only the future will reveal the path they take, but inevitably, it will be a different one.
Kaedehara Kazuha: Free Spirit
No one is sure when they first noticed it, but once in a while, from the deck of The Alcor, flagship of the heavily armed Crux Fleet, the soft sound of a flute can be heard following the ocean breeze to wherever it may lead. Trace the sound back to its source and you will see a young samurai of Inazuma, calmly sitting in a crow's nest, playing a leaf flute while taking in the sights and sounds of the natural world. But ask the other sailors about his story and you'll find they know little more than you. All they can tell you is: "He is a trainee sailor from Inazuma. His name is Kaedehara Kazuha."
Kaedehara Kazuha: Come driving rain or winds that churn, I shall return, by blade alone, armed, if barefoot, to my home...
Kaedehara Kazuha is no aimless wanderer--he has a deep sense of purpose. The young samurai left his homeland behind not to part with the past, but in the search for a new hope. As he navigates his path, he charts a course through the myriad of storms that come his way... His exposure to the elements keeps him in touch with nature, and connects him with other people who cross his path. Those who choose to defy the gods are destined for hardship. but even a maple leaf blowing in the breeze, if it falls into the right company, can learn to sail the storm-winds of the sea to shores beyond the horizon.
Kamisato Ayaka: Snowdance Heron
In Inazuma City, the Shirasagi Himegimi is a name known to all. Those fortunate enough to meet Kamisato Ayaka in person describe her as the princess of the Kamisato Clan. Graceful and dignified as a snow crane, but kind and gentle like a dove. She brings joy and hope to everyone she meets. The other half of perfection is, of course, martial prowess. So when Kamisato Ayaka draws her blade and assumes a fighting stance, her opponent should beware
Kamisato Ayaka: Kamisato Ayaka, present
When Inazuma locals discuss the Yashiro Commission they are full of praise for Kamisato Ayaka's cordial manner and sincerity of speech at social gatherings. When the  name Shirasagi Himegimi is uttered it is done so in tribute to her flawless etiquette and impeccable character. But what can anyone know of how Ayaka views herself in her innermost being? As the "princess" of the Yashiro Commission's Kamisato Clan Ayaka shoulders her family's duty to cherish the aspirations of ordinary people. But she also has dreams of her own that she holds dear. Perhaps the thing that she really needs is a companion on her journey, with whom to share a pot of tea and to play a game of Go. And with whom to stand shoulder to shoulder when it comes time to draw her blade.
Yoimiya: Whispers of the Flames
If you ever make it to Inazuma, and ask the locals what to see while you're there, nearly everyone you talk to will emphatically recommend a fireworks display. Like shooting stars in reverse, they fly up into the night, then burst into color illuminating the sky and sea, and the faces of those watching below. This short by dazzling spectacle is all the work of one woman: Inazuma's most skilled fireworks expert, Yoimiya.
Yoimiya: Hehehe, let me give this "shooting fireworks straight into the skies with a bow" business a shot!
As the explosions in the sky fade away, breathless spectators find their friends and leave. But Yoimiya is already busy preparing for the next display. It is a time-honored routine, unchanging night after night. And everyone in Inazuma looks forward to the splendid sight of her latest creations. After a brief moment, the dazzling flashes fade, and the crowds are gone. After hundreds of years, this sight is nothing new to me. But who's to say that brief moments of splendor can't become everlasting memories? The god who pursues eternity has yet to realize that not all that endures is constant. Time can keep fireworks in people's minds long after they've faded. Just as, once in a while, it can send stars fixed high above plummeting down to the ground. (Note: Both times stars are mentioned, clips of Aether are playing)
Sayu: Whirling Windwheel
Ninjas are often portrayed moving under the veil of night, stealthily conducting their mission in the shadows. As such, people tend to let their imaginations regarding ninjas run wild. Filching objects in a flash. Vanishing without a trace. And laying poisonous traps. Such skills are necessary to be worthy of the "ninja" title, but in the eyes of ninja Sayu, no matter how profound the art of ninjutsu may be, it is to be used but for a single purpose: slacking off. To this ninja, who never passes on an opportunity to be lazy, the stirring of the leaves is not the opportune diversion to strike her enemy. Rather, it's a favorable time to slip away for a nice nap.
Sayu: Sayu, Shuumatsuban, at your disposal! Whew, but if you don't need me right now, I'm gonna grab some sleep.
Striving for the dreams of your youthhood is an admirable thing, indeed. Only by improving yourself can you face the vicissitudes of life. And when it comes to improving yourself, whether it's sharpening your combat skills or simply trying to grow taller, to the young anything worth striving for is a truly valuable endeavor. Heh, now that I think about it, I, too, was probably once that way. Naïve, persistent, and untiring... Hehe... I'm only joking, of course. I've long forgotten the happenings of hundreds of years ago.
Raiden Shogun: Tranquil Thunder
In the eyes of Inazumans, the Raiden Shogun is not only an archon, but also a symbol. She is their superior leader who embodies eternal thunder and radiance. Her Excellency, the Almighty Narukami Ogosho, a thousand-year-old protector of Inazuma. Little do they know that the current ruler of Inazuma, the Raiden Shogun residing high up in Tenshukaku, is no longer the same archon who emerged victorious from the Archon War
Raiden Shogun: The campaign begins.
Neighboring the Dark Sea, Inazuma has witnessed many a war. For the pursuit of Eternity and the prosperity of Inazuma, the Raiden Shogun stuck stubbornly to her path. But what let some bloom, made others wither. There is no gain without the pain of loss. When facing their fears, archons and mortals are all the same. Yet archons are born arrogant--by attempting to grasp the heavenly principles, she brought a disaster upon mortals. Perhaps some may say that I'm overstating what happened, but... I'm just speaking from experience after all.
Aloy: Mystical Glow of Frost (Note: video narrated by Alice)
If memory serves me right, the last time an outlander visited Teyvat was centuries ago. Imagine my surprise, when I discovered yet another guest during my most recent travels. A machine hunter, an outcast of the Nora tribe. Oh my, I cannot wait to learn more about her and her abilities. Let's not dilly-dally and begin our research!
Aloy: Aloy here. I don't know this world, but my arrows are sharp and my bow's ready.
I hope you've found my research as informative as I did. As a sorceress, I love making new discoveries, examining all kinds of otherworldly things, and using that knowledge to create something new. Maybe Aloy and I are more alike than it may seem. Though she lays so many roles in her home world, Aloy begins her journey in Teyvat with a clean slate. She'll get to know new places, meet new companion, and reconsider what her homeland means to her. With her survival skills, adventuring in Teyvat should be a breeze. Ah, if only she'd let me tinker with her bombs a little.
Kujou Sara: Thunderstrike Feather
The tengu of Inazuma dwell in the mountain forests, rarely appearing in human society. To live among humans as Kujou Sara does, not to mention serve as their army general, is almost unheard of. One wonders if, in her eyes, the profound seclusion of the densely wooded mountains and the eternity pined for by the Raiden Shogun bear any similarity to each other...
Kujou Sara: I will lead us to victory.
As a tengu raised by humans, Kujou Sara heeds the call of humanity, forsaking her own kind to fight for the mortal world in battle. Perhaps those who achieve such outstanding feats are too satisfied with their own brilliance to realize that their god has raised them in a prison. Sometimes, I cannot decide whether the greater tragedy is to have lost all one's own ambition or to have adopted the wishes of a god as one's own.
Thoma: Crimson Armor of Loyalty
Strict regulations govern everything in Inazuma. Outlanders looking for a home away from home face many obstacles here. So how did a Mondstadter called Thoma earn a reputation as a local "fixer" and secure a job with the Yashiro Commission? Is this a testament to the Kamisato Clan's magnanimity? Or to Thoma's exceptional abilities?
Thoma: Where we headed this time?
As an outsider in Inazuma, Thoma is often viewed as someone who doesn't belong. To this day, many believe the slander behind his back. But through his own hard work, and the Kamisato Clan's tolerant attitude, Thoma has carved out a space for himself here despite the somewhat hostile environment. Occasionally, a thought crosses my mind: If one who has turned their back on the gods ever chose to follow them once more, would any such favorable treatment be  extended to them? Regrettably, no opportunity of this nature exists. Nor would I have the desire to take it. Over centuries of futility I have at least learned one thing: So long as you have determination you can always keep going. A defender's will is a precious thing and hatred can serve to nourish it.
Arataki Itto: Supreme Superstrength
In recent years, the efforts of one young Crimson Oni have earned the loud and proud Arataki Gang a certain measure of fame in Inazuma City's Hanamizaka district. Or perhaps that should be "infamy"? Either way, when it comes to their founder and leader, Arataki Itto, everyone has to agree--he's one of a kind.
Arataki Itto: Arataki "Numero Uno" Itto, here in the flesh! Hahaha... *cough*
Compared to his peers, Arataki Itto has lived a colorful life, and is familiar with the inside of a prison cell, fully qualifying him as the rightful leader of the Arataki Gang. Though some may contest his way of handling things, the members of this young Crimson Oni's gang choose to follow him, despite the diet of grilled Lavender Melon. *huffs* Well, it's one way of living. And ultimately, surviving on sporadic work and next to no Mora is still an easier task than trying to deny your destiny.
Gorou: Forward Unto Victory
In the vast and mysterious world of Teyvat, there are as many ways of life as there are people. Some heed the call of duty, others the call of freedom. Some follow their beliefs, others their talents. A few trust their instincts and rise to shoulder great responsibility, a prime example being General Gorou of Watatsumi Island. Since you never know what the enemy might throw at you, the key to surviving the chaos of battle is being able to adapt in the moment
Gorou: Keep your weapon at the ready. You never know what's around the corner
Whether they seek it or not, those of exceptional ability and character tend to gain the trust of the masses. For Gorou, this trust serves both as a confirmation of his abilities and motivation to hone them continuously. But the cost of being someone that everyone relies on is the burden of responsibility that it brings. Everything from helping the troops with their daily struggles, to keeping Watatsumi Island safe and secure ultimately falls on Gorou's shoulders. Time and fate treat such notions with contempt which can make the burden unbearably heavy. If one day the world is turned upside down, will his instincts and determination alone provide him with enough strength to keep carrying the load he bears?
Shenhe: Fluttering of Frosty Feathers
Although the paths through the lofty peaks of Jueyun Karst are arduous, there are always bright-eyed mortals who come seeking the adeptal path. For all their ambition, most mere mortals cannot fathom the way to the adepti and return from their fruitless journeys disappointed. Yet those "fortunate" enough to encounter some hardship may suddenly find themselves being rescued by a divine young lady. Stunned by the elegance of their silver-haired savior, they hastily begin bowing excitedly, in reverence and adulation... Only to find their "adeptus" rescuer remain indifferent and leave without even a second glance
Shenhe: I will do as you command.
Liyue Harbor is known as a bustling melting pot of a city, ready to welcome any and every lonely figure. But if Shenhe truly wishes to rejoin human society, there is much she will have to learn. Even I myself do not relish the solitary life I lead. When others are fortunate enough to meet a companion for their journey, I sincerely wish them the very best. After all, to this day, I hold that people should be authors of their own fate. Both the crane ready to make peace with the past and the beast with a grudge to bear have the freedom to make their journey home.
Yae Miko: The Mocking of a Tenko
Yae Miko is a divine kitsune. As the Electro Archon's familiar and Guuji of the Grand Narukami Shrine, her dignified presence commands awe and respect. But as chief editor of the Yae Publishing House, and a patron and participant of festivities, her crafty tone keeps you guessing. This leaves many uncertain of how to deal with the majestic but mystifying Miko. In reality, however, If you want to make Lady Guuji smile you needn't deliver an eloquent speech, you simply need to say these four magic words: "Something amusing just happened."
Yae Miko: Whatever would you do without me?
In storytelling skill, the writers of the Yae Publishing House are my superior. When I get talking, I tend to speak of true historical events. But under Chief Editor Yae's guidance works of sheer fantasy thrive accounting for the vast majority of popular light novels. Maybe in another few centuries archaeologists will find books filled with pure fiction, mistake them for rare historical records, and draw all kinds of conclusions from them. Perhaps by then the truth of the past will be consumed as entertaining fiction, it's only purpose to meet people's need for novelty. Save for the sneering of the kitsune all that will remain is the despairing sighs of the long-forgotten.
Kamisato Ayato: Reflection of the Moon and Flowers
Surrounding the epicenter of power is a tangle web of powerful factions. Where vested interests and hidden agendas lurk beneath the surface. For someone to not only rise to the top in this environment, but also maintain stability, they must be exceptionally shrewd and highly skilled. Anyone who hopes to meet the man at the top would be wise to first make sure that they know exactly whose side they're on...
Kamisato Ayato: What's that? Join you for a walk? Why not.
Many years ago, the Yashiro Commission faced upheaval for their transgressions. The Kamisato Clan survives today because they found favor in the eyes of a god. But they bear an eternal obligation to be guardians of the divine. If you ask the head of the Kamisato Clan what he truly holds sacred, I daresay "the will of the gods" would not be his answer. And so, though Kamisato Ayato appears to handle his affairs with consummate ease, when all is said and done, he is simply an ordinary soul caught between the divine and the mundane. If there comes a day when the instruction of the gods conflicts with that which he has sworn to protect, how then will he preserve his delicately maintained stability?

The Basics of the Fortnite Lore
Fortnite lore! Yup, it exists, and it is more interesting and thorough than what most might think.
I know the game has a bit of a "reputation" on the internet to put it lightly, but I'll be up front and say I am an avid fan of this game, I have no shame in that.
But you aren't here to watch a video of me talking about cringe culture and the internet perception of differing interests, you are here likely because of the prospect of this game, of all games, having lore, and uh yes it does. I've been following the storyline of this game for years now and it has grown a lot since then, which is great! But I do worry that it makes it hard for newcomers or returning players to get into the story without feeling intimidated.
So I'm here to give a basic rundown of the lore. I won't be focusing on the timeline as much as I am the key characters and concepts.
While I am not here to matpat it up over every single exact detail of what's happened over the course of this storyline, I am here to give a well versed explanation of the most important elements of the story.
But if you want to know more after you are done watching there are good videos out there that are very comprehensive, I recommend Richeva and TediusX’s videos on the subject, links in description.
The Zero Point
So one of if not the most important aspect of the storyline is the Zero Point. You know the big bang theory? No, not the television show, stay with me guys. The idea that in the very beginning there was nothing in existence, but then a big explosion burst out of nowhere and created the universe? Yeah well the Zero Point is if the big bang was an orb that instead of creating one universe, created the entire multiverse. You know the quantum physics concept of there being a separate plane of existence for every possibility, choice, or outcome.
To put it simply the Zero Point is a big ball of time and space junk that acts as a connection to the multiverse, but I would say it's more vital than that, think of the Zero Point as the beating heart of reality as we know it, the core of the multiverse, if the zero point were to be damaged or messed with, the fabric of reality would go off the rails, and if the zero point was ever destroyed.. then the multiverse, every conceivable thing would cease to exist.
So take a shot in the dark as to what the main villains of fortnite are doing.
Yeah,
They are messing with the zero point.
The Imagined Order
The Imagined Order are an organization that have operated for thousands of years and serve not only as the games main antagonists, but also the driving force of most of the storyline. Lead by a mysterious entity known as Geno, details about him being very few and far between, but what we do know is that he is obsessed with genetic perfection, giving himself and others immortality, and founded the organization with the goal to figure out the perfect organizational system for the ideal civilization The imagined order took control of the zero point using their advanced technology, and use it to steal other things, people, and whatever else they want from their original dimensions, and shove them into Reality Zero, the home of the zero point, of which a strange land formation has formed around, what most would know as the Fortnite Island, more on that later. What the Imagined Order are doing to the Zero Point is not natural and incredibly dangerous, they do it all in the name of not only research, but to give themselves power. With that Power they managed to create an elaborate trap for those they have kidnapped across the multiverse, a trap hundreds, if not thousands, if not MILLIONS have entered, but very few have escaped. A trap known as “The Loop”
The Loop
The Loop is a time loop, you know the fantasy concept of a specific time or the same events repeating itself for eternity? But it is not as simple as that, let me explain.
Like I said the Imagined Order kidnap entities from across the multiverse to put in this loop (or sometimes to join their ranks), that not only explains all the crossovers the game has gotten, so many I can't name them all, but it also explains the strange mix of original characters the game has, maybe you will have your standard human soldier, but you will also have a viking, a wild west bandit made of pancakes, a warrior themed around an 8-ball, a anthropomorphic banana, there are no limits except the imagination in the variety of things trapped in this loop, which is a good thing creatively, but an obviously evil thing given its against all of their wills.
The Loop resets every 22 minutes and within that time frame a Looper cant speak, they cant remember who they are, not even their own name, and over the many loops of this battle royale, Most of the loopers have gotten quicker on the draw in terms of resorting to violence, it becomes like instinct to hurt another soul in this world of eternal torment.
*Mimics fortnite default dance music*
The Island
The Fortnite Island is not exactly an island persay, it is a strange land formation surrounded by a little bit of ocean and a grand cosmos beyond it, the land having two sides, two islands opposite of each other, and it's all formed around the zero point which is smack dab in the middle of them, underground.
If you were to go out far enough in the seas surrounding the “island” without hitting the storm, you’ll see sort of a void, space, whatever you really want to call it, if you were to jump into it, you would die, permanently.
As far as we know, there is nothing in the fortnite reality besides the island, and an ice moon which there is not much known about yet beyond it being near impossible to get and/or survive there without special armor and a means of transport that wouldn't get ripped apart by the dangerous winds surrounding it.
The Seven
Here is where we get to the heroes of the story, the main ones at least, The Seven are a group of specially armored people from different realities with an entire army of followers, but obviously the main members consist of seven people, big surprise there.
Their goal is to  defeat the imagined order, liberate the zero point from the control of Geno, and break the time loop of reality.
But who are these seven individuals? What other groups are there? How are there so many Jonseys? Well that will have to wait for another video.. So until next time my friends, stay lucky.

Con: I think the show deserves a season three whether I'm involved in it or not. It was always David's dream to make three seasons. I would be gutted for him if season three didn't happen. As far as Izzy being involved, that's entirely up to David Jenkins.
Screen Rant: I did some Googling, and I found articles. One of them was titled “Our Flag Means Death Season Two's Best Character Isn’t Who You Think”, and it was talking about Izzy. The other one was “Izzy Hands is the Real Star of Our Flag Means Death Season Two”. Those were both headlines I found. What was it like to find out what Izzy’s journey this season was going to be? It’s had such an impact on so many people.
Con O’Neill: David and I spoke about it quite a lot before we shot, about the redemptive qualities, and I was delighted that we didn't suddenly turn him into a saint overnight. I was delighted that the redemption was complicated and layered, and I don't feel that Izzy disappears in any of it. I think he's very much who he always was, but with slightly more of an open soul. I was so grateful to David and the writers for creating an arc that was playable rather than Hollywood-ized and too easy. It was challenging; it was a very, very lonely shoot for me. I found myself gravitating towards my own company most of the time, mainly because of the hours. And, because if I wasn’t shooting, I was learning to walk on that f***ing leg. If I wasn’t doing that, I was sword training, and if I wasn’t doing that, I was body training, and if I wasn’t doing that, I was recording a song in French. So, I was busy. Our group is a group of beautiful people, and we would meet every Sunday for lunch. Christine used to arrange that. I found myself initially quite hesitant to join that, because it felt like I had this weight on my shoulders, certainly for the first four episodes. I loved it as an actor. I found it really challenging as a man on his own in New Zealand, where it rains [a lot].
Screen Rant: I'm a music nerd, and kind of a musical theater nerd; my favorite episode of this is the one where you're singing in it. I love those sequences so much, your voice is insane, and it's such a good character moment. How did the decision to make that happen—singing, and specifically that song--come about? Did they write that for you because they knew you were a singer?
Con O’Neill: We’re all walking around backstage, telling jokes, playing music, and singing; that’s just what happens when you shoot a show. David called me up while I was in Wellington. I was in Wellington for a week shooting something else. He called me up and he asked me if I knew “La vie en rose”; I knew it, vaguely, but I don't speak French at all. Then, he mentioned that they wanted to do it in an episode. So, I learned the English version, Dean Martin’s version, and then they asked me if I could learn the French version. I don't speak a word of French, not a word, but my partner does, and I had a friend who just played Edith Piaf piano—Jenna (Russell)--and between the two of them, they taught me the French version of the song. If somebody had asked me prior to this, “What song would Izzy sing?” “La vie en rose” would never have entered my head. And now, there's no other song that fits. That's the genius of David. David's very clever with music. We know that--we’ve all experienced how clever he is—but to pick that song for him, at that point in his life? Yeah. F***ing hell. That was genius.
Screen Rant: Your character died this season. How far in advance did you know that, and did that affect how you approached or thought about the season?
Con O’Neill: No. I mean, to be honest, I felt it was going that way. I've been around a long time, and when a character starts this kind of arc, especially in something as interesting as our show is… When David took me out for dinner, I kind of thought this was where it was going, and, partly, I was relieved. I'm not an actor who likes to just repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. And, I knew that Ed and Stede were going to end up together at the end of this season, so Izzy, as he stands, wouldn't make any sense to still be there. So, it was a relief that the decision was being made. I was a bit upset because I love playing him, but leave them wanting more, you know? I will be eternally grateful for what they gave me; how they played him out in the show. The beautiful speech they gave me, the opportunity to do “La vie en rose”, and the opportunity to die in Taika’s arms and to be able to honor that relationship… I couldn't have asked for a better play-off, really.
Screen Rant: This season did introduce, with the Gravy Basket, the potential for someone who has passed on to return. If there was a season three, do you think your character would have anything else to impart on Stede or Blackbeard in a similar scenario?
Con O’Neill: You’d have to ask David Jenkins. I don't know where David wants to take it, and I wouldn't preempt that with me making up stories for Izzy in a flashback or ghostie Izzy, or whatever. I have no idea where David wants season three to go. I think the show deserves a season three whether I'm involved in it or not. It was always David's dream to make three seasons. I would be gutted for him if season three didn't happen. As far as Izzy being involved, that's entirely up to David Jenkins.
Screen Rant: So much of this season and Izzy’s journey is his relationship with Edward and his love for Edward, and so much of the conflict is about how much Edward is changing. Did you have an understanding of what version of Blackbeard, or Edward, that Izzy was looking for, and wanting to be around?
Con O’Neill: That’s a great f***ing question. Between season one and season two, in the interim, Izzy experiences a broken Blackbeard, and a Blackbeard that's never going to go back to what he was, because he's heartbroken. Everyone who's been heartbroken knows that you never go back to who [you] were. He just wants to fix Blackbeard. That's why he takes his life in his hands by confronting Blackbeard; he just wants Blackbeard to be fixed, to find his soul again, [and] to find his heart again. Whether he's involved in that is not relevant. What's relevant is, he loves Blackbeard so much that he wants him to find himself again. So, it's never Izzy’s version of Blackbeard that Izzy’s looking for. He's looking for Blackbeard to find himself again, and that's only through Stede.
Screen Rant: I was looking up the real-life Izzy Hands, who testified against allies to get a pardon and supposedly died a beggar in the streets of London years later. Would you have been interested in that, dramatically, if that was how his story ended on the show?
Con O’Neill: No, that's not our show. We're not historically [accurate to] those times. If we were, they wouldn’t have cast a guy who is 50 to play a 16-year-old pirate. I don't know. I'd love to be able to tell you what area that season three, if it ever happens, would go, but I literally have no idea. I don't think we're going to go down the historical route. I’d be very surprised if we do that.
Screen Rant: I don’t know if you’ll have an answer for me, but I saw that you initially auditioned for a different role. I love Taika so much; I feel like you would have also made a great Blackbeard. Is that who you were going for, initially?
Con O’Neill: Absolutely not, but thank you for saying that. I don’t see anyone else as Blackbeard but Taika. When Taika was announced, I knew what our show was. But no, it wasn’t Blackbeard. And no, I’m not going to tell you.
Screen Rant: Okay. Perfect. Well, clearly it all worked out for the best. I mean, you're incredible, and the whole cast is so perfect in their roles. It's been a pleasure to watch you and… yeah, congrats on the show.
Con O’Neill: Thank you so much.

A video from 1st March 2024 of a debate in the UK House of Commons about a conversion therapy ban.
My partner insisted I watch this after I got in from a long and difficult day. It's encouraging to know that there are some Tories who will attempt to protect LGBTQIA+ people. I don't know anything else about Alicia Kearns but this is good.
youtube
[Video transcript taken from Hansard:
Alicia Kearns, Conservative Party, MP for Rutland and Melton: I am often asked why I fight for a ban on conversion therapy. People say, “Surely there must be some personal connection. Surely you must have some personal history,” but I do not. In fact, there is no one in my family who is LGBT; we may be the only family in the UK without someone who is LGBT. The reason I do it is because fundamentally, as a Conservative, I have a duty to defend individual freedoms. I believe that the state should stay out of people’s lives, but it should protect the most vulnerable—defend those who others seek to harm, and recognise that the first and foremost duty of any Government is to protect their people.
This is not some woke frontier for politicians to weaponise for clickbait, and I am shamed by the debate that is increasingly taking place on conversion therapy. I remember the first debate I secured in this place on conversion therapy. It was moderate; we sat and debated the intricacies of legislation that was not yet there. Unfortunately, that has changed.
People in positions of trust are abusing those who they tell they are sinful, broken and need correcting, which causes lifelong hate. There are survivors in this place—in Parliament. The reason I fight so hard is that so many LGBT colleagues do not feel that they can come here and be labelled as fighting for themselves. They should be free to do that, but sometimes they cannot, and—do you know what?—allyship matters. We have a duty in this place to not impose our own personal views on things, but recognise that our rights—potentially to religious freedoms—can be protected while we also protect those who live a life different from ours.
Neale Hanvey, Alba Party, MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath: The hon. Lady has made a really important point about LGB people coming to this place and feeling safe to argue their position on this important matter. I have experienced the most horrendous bullying in this place because I take a contrary view, or a more guarded view, than some in the LGB community. In fact, people in the LGB community are often referred to as “bigots”, “transphobes” and other slurs just because we have concerns about legislation such as this and want to make sure that young LGB people are protected —and trans people. Does the hon. Lady agree that that rule must apply to all sides of any debate, not just to the side that she favours?
Alicia Kearns: The hon. Gentleman is entirely right, but there was one letter missing in his LGB: the letter T. We do not divide the LGBT community in this place. Members can say that they have concerns about what we are doing, but by removing the T, the hon. Gentleman is suggesting that transgender people do not exist. He is suggesting that they are less than other LGB people, and I will not stand for that, because it was trans people who stood with gay people at Stonewall; it was trans people who fought alongside them for LGB rights. I will happily discuss the intricacies of legislation with the hon. Gentleman, but when he chooses to eradicate, that is wrong.
Miriam Cates, Conservative, MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge: Will my hon. Friend give way?
Alicia Kearns: No, I will not give way on this point, because I will not hear more erasure of a transgender community. We can discuss the intricacies, but that I will not stand for.
I am not going to go into the arguments about the Bill, because the hon. Member for Brighton, Kemptown (Lloyd Russell-Moyle) did an exceptional. job. He went out and met every single person, organisation and lobby group and listened to all their views, even if he disagreed with them—and that includes the LGB Alliance, who have also removed the T—and I have supported him. He has done a phenomenal job.
The hon. Gentleman has set out what the Bill does. It protects religious leaders, who can still guide their flocks. Health practitioners can still support and challenge people, and parents are protected. That is why all major faith groups back the Bill, why the royal colleges back it, and why exploratory therapy is protected. This is a compromise Bill, and I say to Members who wish to oppose it, “Search within yourself, because you have a duty to protect children and a duty to allow professionals to do their job, and you need to recognise that some people’s objections are not to the nuances in the Bill.” The only people who fear a ban on conversion therapy are quacks and charlatans who profit from bigotry and misery. Conversion therapy causes lifelong harm. This is a moderate Bill and a compromise Bill, and it does not go as far as the Government’s proposals. [Interruption.] The hon. Member may chunter and laugh, but I am appalled—[Interruption.] I will happily give way to him if he asks, rather than chuntering.
Danny Kruger, Conservative, MP for Devizes: I apologise for chuntering. I was simply amused by the suggestion that this is a moderate Bill. This is not a moderate speech that the hon. Lady is making. The hon. Member for Brighton, Kemptown (Lloyd Russell-Moyle) made a very good speech, recognising that there are legitimate views on the other side of the debate. The hon. Lady talks about erasure, but she dismissed the comments of the hon. Member for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath (Neale Hanvey), suggesting that his view was completely invalid. I respect her arguments and her wish to pursue this Bill, or this kind of legislation, but can we please have a debate with more civility?
Alicia Kearns: I would suggest that the ultimate failure of civility is to erase a member of the LGBT community —to erase an entire group. I am happy to discuss the nuanced points, but I will not do so if Members want to suggest that transgender people do not exist, or that we do not really have a definition in law of what transgender people are. They exist in law and they exist in this place, and they exist in the hon. Member’s constituency as well.
The Government should back this compromise Bill, because love is not a pathology, and transgender people are not a pathology: they do not need treatment. I say, very simply, to those people, “You are seen in this place and you are heard in this place, and very many of us back you and will protect you.”

Neil Gaiman and Rob Wilkins at the British Library event The Worlds of Terry Pratchett: Neil Gaiman and Rob Wilkins 21.11.2023
Neil: The weirdest bit, the one moment that I remember as being the strangest, most quintessentially writing Good Omens together moment was when we had to copy edit it. And we copy edited it in the basement of Victor Gollancz, which at that point was in 14 Henrietta Street. And the basement was a basement. There were chairs down there, no tables or anything. So we're sitting in these card chairs in this... my recollection is it did have a carpet. And the carpet was kind of damp. You know, beneath that carpet there was sort of strange puddles of... publishing. And Terry and I just sat there and we were both copy editing away. And then there was a point where Terry looked up and chuckled like anything. I said, 'What are you chuckling about?' He said, 'That joke you put in.' I said, 'Which one?' Because, you know, you want to hear which one. He read it out and I said, 'I didn't write that one'. He said, 'Well, I didn't write it'. And at that point you could tell from our eyes both of us had come to the conclusion that perhaps the manuscript was generating itself. And neither of us was prepared to say this out loud for fear of being thought a bit odd.
(you can watch the whole event here :))

Reviewing tactile paving in Wudaokou, Beijing
[video ID: A video from douyin that shows a first-person POV of a walk along an uncrowded granite city sidewalk. The camera is pointed at a downward angle, showing a silver walking stick sweeping back and forth over vertical block tactile paving, with white shoes stepping in and out of the bottom of the frame. A woman speaks in Mandarin Chinese as Simplified Chinese and English captions appear over the video. At one point, the woman encounters a pair of feet belonging to someone standing stationary at the edge of the tactile paving, but otherwise the path is unobstructed. The English captions read as follows: Okay, begin. I’m showing everyone this blind path. I was just walking on it and thought that it was especially distinct. Plus it’s very wide. This width is very wide. I feel like this is my ideal blind path. And then, just like… Sorry. When I walk on it, there’s also no particular obstructions. Like, there’s no trees boxes or anything super nearby. Uh, of course, I also don’t know if that’s true. In any case, I haven’t bumped into anything. I feel like this is the type of blind path that actually guarantees our safety. I really hope, like, that we can have more blind paths like this. /End ID]
English added by me :)
