Guise, I really am active on Pillowfort rather than on here bc this hellshite swallows up all my bawdy posts, even the posts with merely bawdy tags. If you want to hang out, PF is the place. Although as they've had a bad troll infestation of late and the guy keeps creating several sockpuppets a day that we have to keep on blocking, it's best if you actually interact with people and post legit content before you go off and follow anyone, as many of us have been hitting the block button very lightly this past month or so. I'm interested in interacting, yeah, but only with real (and literate) grown-up people still, but PF is far better for actual real conversations and posting of n**s**f**w things. JSYK.

Omg, hi! I'm so glad you wrote; I've seen all these likes from you and have been all "omg" and been hoping against hope that you'd leave a reply to a post, or a comment on a fic so I could thank you properly :3 I have a possibly weird request, though: that is, could you please send me another ask on Veidtveidtveidt so that when I reply, Tumblr won't delete your lovely original? What with Tumblr being crap that way, & me replying via new asks being unwieldy bc of the stupid character limit.
Oh my goodness, I’m so happy you responded lol thank you!! 😄😄 — I will absolutely send you another Ask on your other blog (or rather, a duplicate of the original ask haha)

Guys, there's no point in following this blog as I'm not updating it anymore due to Tumblr being so user-unfriendly. Fandom's choice of social media is still in a flux, but hopefully in some months' time I can announce the new home for this blog (and veidtveidtveidt). I'm only posting my new Connie finds (including the interviews/articles you can see here) on my Pillowfort for now (I'm Snowgrouse on there).

Since Tumblr is now taking down anything it even suspects of being p*o*r*n, *including* gifs of Connie himself because his body language is so hyper*s*e*x*ual (I’m not joking, guys) and their censorbot tags basically everything wrong, I’m just giving you a heads-up that I’m moving veidtveidtveidt and conradveidttrivia to Pillowfort and/or LJ/DW in the near future. The VVV masterpost, which has been on LJ due to Tumblr’s craziness anyway, will stay on LJ as long as LJ stays up.
Of course, this whole mess is the reason you will not have seen my Connie gifs on the Connie tag for a few weeks, now. They decided that if you’d ever posted n*s*f*w material, that was all you ever posted, so there went all my Old Hollywood gifs and photos, too. Which is frankly ridiculous, so I’m moving someplace else where I can post all kinds of stuff (while still tagging the things people may want to filter, of course!) without the host arbitrarily just shooting down posts/blogs on sight. Especially since Connie himself is pretty n*s*f*w. Who wants to have their blog deleted simply for reblogging a guy who eats a banana in a suggestive manner, and slinks his hips like he’s making sweet love to the air?
I’ll set up the new blogs when PF comes back up. I may be shoved off Tumblr before that, so bookmark the LJ page at least and stay tuned to that blog for further info if you don‘t hear from me on here. (I’m also snowgrouse on Pillowfort, although I’ll probably make a separate Connie comm or blog if possible.)
See you guys around.

@little-water-lily reblogged your photoset “aikainkauna: Tropes Conrad Veidt created, codified or provided Ur Examples of: Looks Like Cesare: The Cabinet of Dr....”
#gay angst im crying i have to see this movie
It’s up on @veidtveidtveidt with the rest of them:) Almost every Connie film I’ve been able to get my hands on is downloadable from there. Nearly all of them are in the public domain these days, so dive in!

Uff
So I just sat through two hours of The Wandering Jew to try and rip it from the BFI site, but no can do. I really wish there was a fucking BR release, dammit. I hate not having a permanent copy of a thing and being able to gif it to my heart's content--that's free publicity, dammit! *flops*
I'm on mobile now, so I can't be bothered to find the link, but Connie fans should go check it out. Their edition has 24 minutes more material (even if some bits that are in our older copy are missing in the BFI one) and seeing Connie act his panther tits off in HD is an experience and a half.

BTW, if you want me to reply to your Fan Mail, you need to enable me to do that without following you and all that, as I don’t really follow anyone on here and am no longer active here anyway. I just come back to check @veidtveidtveidt mostly, to see if anyone’s been asking for Connie film passwords. Leaving an ask on Veidtveidtveidt is the best way to get a response; I think Fan Mail has been glitchy anyway. You can also leave a comment on the masterpost itself (you can use a Facebook ID to leave a comment without joining LJ; I think some other social medias’ logins work as well). If you have an LJ account (it’s free to register on there), and enable messages from non-followers, I can send you a PM on there. But basically, you need to allow me some kind of way to write you back privately so I can give you the passwords. Cheers.

So I logged out of the Tumblr app earlier today, and it seems that even when I am not logged in on the app on the snowgrouse account but a backup blog (that I made a while ago in response to the purge), it still keeps doing the weird thing it does to me all the time: namely, assigning posts randomly to my sideblogs (kissinthedreamhouse, conradveidttrivia, veidtveidtveidt, marvarid) even when I never posted them on those blogs. And when I try to reply to replies or to reblog my own posts or to edit the posts in any way, the fucker gives an error because I'm trying to edit an aikainkauna post it thinks was posted to kissinthedreamhouse (thus, a nonexistent post). I click on the "those lady hips will be the death of me" tag and voomph, no results because it tries to display posts tagged with that tag on marvarid (a private test blog) instead.
So now I want to know if you guys are seeing that on the app/mobile, too? Do you see my fannish posts from aikainkauna as being supposedly posted by kissinthedreamhouse, marvarid, veidtveidtveidt or conradveidttrivia? And vice versa? And are they rebloggable/repliable at all?
Inquiring minds need to know what the fuck.

...I’m constantly getting these ghost notifications of new messages on the Tumblr app, but it looks like it’s confusing them with its shitty new “ooh, look, you have new notes! Which we’ll collapse anyway so you don‘t even know which post they were for and can‘t look at what people said in their tags” thingy.
But... IDK? Has anyone tried to contact me? These days, that seems only possible through the snowgrouse account’s messenger thingy (this was after I’d set up a backup account to mod most of my blogs--apparently if more than two people mod a blog, you can’t message it on the messenger thingy) and through sending me Fan Mail on aikainkauna and asks on veidtveidtveidt and conradveidttrivia. I’ve tried to check all their inboxes, but... nada.
Well, anyway. If you *have* tried to contact me, try again? I know I’ve made it difficult, but that’s because of trolls, not because of the small handful of the slightly less belligerent folks on here. And if you’re on PF, do feel free to leave comments, now that it’s possible--I’ve really missed having real conversations with people. I know Tumblr folks have either a) burned out because of the crazy flaming and callout culture going on here, and if they’re old enough to remember the LJ days, they just can’t be bothered to risk it and b) aren’t old enough to remember decent conversation used to be possible and don’t talk at all unless it’s ill-considered flaming or then ranting on anonmemes (I can’t tell you how sad I find the fact that all adult fandom discussion seems to have moved to those kinds of spheres). I do genuinely like to talk to sensible and not-too-kneejerky individuals (who hopefully know something about the world and/or at least know their own experience isn’t all there is to humankind), believe it or not.

I've seen some folks reblogging old posts from here on @veidtveidtveidt , seemingly just for the gifs, but those often have the link to the old masterpost that no longer works (because Tumblr thinks anything with S*ndsp*ce links is spam). So there's no point in reblogging them because people will just be frustrated by a b0rked link! And I haven't got the time to go back and replace the link on every post, either, so I hope you understand.
If you just want Connie gifs to reblog (which I presume was the whole idea), I suggest you head over to my fannish blog, @aikainkauna , for as many Veidt gifs as you can hope for. I've tagged all of my posts meticulously by film and by actor, so you should be able to find what you're looking for--those exact same gifs at that. Every time I've announced the upload of a film on the masterpost, I've used a gif I've posted on aikainkauna first. So those are much better an option to reblog, rather than a post with text that's now become meaningless.
***
Edit: if you're new to Tumblr and don't know how to look around for a specific tag on someone's blog, just type this in the address field of your browser:
http://blognamegoeshere.tumblr.com/tagged/tagofchoice
Just replace "blognamegoeshere" with the name of the blog in question, and the "tagofchoice" with the tag you're looking for. So if I want to find all my Casablanca posts on my blog, I paste this URL into my address bar:
http://aikainkauna.tumblr.com/tagged/casablanca
Or if the tag is several words, it needs to be hyphenated for the link to not break--let's say I want to see all the times when Strasser is far too hot when he shouldn't be for a Nazi scumbag/Connie is perving Claude or Ingrid or the caviar again:
http://aikainkauna.tumblr.com/tagged/stupid-sexy-strasser
Will take me to all that. You can also use the "search" function but it's not that great, and leaves many posts out.
***
Please don't get people's hopes up with broken links, guys!

Those *other* Conrad Veidt films of queer interest
Now, almost everyone who’s heard of Conrad Veidt has also heard that he played the first explicitly homosexual character in cinema in the gay rights film Different From The Others, in 1919, and perhaps also that he was bisexual himself. But fewer people would know he starred in several other films of queer interest, some in which the queerness is merely a hint, some in which it’s so blatant it emerges out of the subtext into the text, and some where the queerness is a major part of the text. So I thought I’d list the *other* surviving/available Veidt films of queer interest (all available from veidtveidtveidt ) for your perusal.  The categories are more than a little fluid and I’m sure that someone else might categorise these films differently, but this is how they appear to my eyes when I move the queer/slash fangirls goggles aside–except for the “slash” category, of course. So, here we go:
Films with actual queer text: -Der Geiger von Florenz (The Violinist of Florence, or Impetuous Youth), 1926
Tumblr media
A Freudian tale from beginning to end. At the time, Freud was at the height of his success and there were several films being made that took his theories quite seriously indeed–in this case, the exploration focuses on the Electra complex (the female version of the Oedipus complex) and its relation to sexual/gender variance.
Renee (Elisabeth Bergner), a feisty young girl, has severe daddy issues. To the point where she cannot bear it when her widowed father (Veidt) remarries, and she keeps on trying to sabotage her father’s relationship with his new wife. Her father sends her to a Swiss boarding school, but she soon runs away, dressed as a boy, across the border to Italy. In Florence, she poses as a violinist and becomes quite a success on the streets. Soon, she is spotted by a young artist (Walter Rilla)–who lives in a romantic relationship with his own sister (Grete Mosheim), like they were husband and wife. He finds the young violinist so beautiful he wants to paint “him.” He invites the “boy” to live with himself and his sister, and they both develop crushes on her–the artist offers to wash “his” back in the shower and the sister realises Renee’s actually a girl in drag, but that just excites her. Tension mounts until the painting the artist made of the young violinist makes it to international newspapers, and the girl’s father recognises his daughter, immediately travelling to Florence to be reunited with her. Her secret is discovered and at the end of the film, we see her (still in drag) embracing the artist–and as she’s just been shown being groped by the sister (and enjoying it), it’s basically implied that she will now be living together with the artist and his sister in a happy, incestuous bisexual threesome. Not joking. And it’s a happy ending, too, in case you were wondering.
-Die Andere Seite (1931)
Tumblr media
This is a German talkie version of Journey’s End, a World War I play by R.C. Sherriff and originally filmed in English by James Whale a little earlier. The story is a bleak, grey and heartbreaking glimpse into the brief lives of a company of doomed English soldiers in the trenches. It shows men, old and young alike, at their most raw and vulnerable, clinging desperately to alcohol, duty, their memories of their girlfriends–but most importantly, each other–as they fall apart mentally and physically, hurtling towards inevitable destruction. Veidt plays Captain Stanhope, whose men look up to him, but who is falling apart and sinking into the bottle himself. Grim viewing, but with superb acting performances, and it’s hard not to weep as you watch these doomed souls snatching but tiny pieces of comfort and tenderness from each other as the shells come down and everybody dies. Connie’s drunk, broken, despairing whisper of “Küss mich?” (“Kiss me?”) to his superior officer whom he idolises–it’s dark and we cannot even see his face–is gut-wrenching. Edited to add the fact that we now have engsubs for this! I ripped them from a rare (unavailable or not easily available to the public) copy and you can get them on the masterpost.
And now, for the swathe of films with queer subtext, slashiness and other forms of queer interest–continued in the rest of the blog post here. Enjoy:)
