Things you may have missed from the Texas Senate Hearing if you haven’t kept up with Uvalde coverage
- The classroom door was unlocked, and could not have been locked from the inside by the shooter
- The police did not try to open the classroom door
- The police had ballistic shields
- The police waited for 77 minutes
- The police restrained, detained, and arrested parents who tried to go in to save their children, including Rubin Ruiz
- Rubin Ruiz is a police officer for the school district. He was also the husband of Eva Mireles, one of the teachers who was killed. Eva called her husband, saying that she had been shot and was dying.
- Ruiz tried to go in to save his wife, but was detained and disarmed.
Tell me again why the police should be the only ones with guns.

Horrifying article, but I do like that it doesn’t paint Kelley Watt as some poor misguided innocent victim of propaganda, like so many of these mainstream profiles of qanoners tend to.
The author’s disgust for her is made clear throughout the piece.
She’s just a horrible, dumb, narcissistic woman who would rather feel self important than admit the damage she has done to innocent people, as well as destroying her own family in the process.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert was filmed wordlessly threw throwing away a pamphlet calling for gun reform and sharing the story of Maite Rodriguez, one of the 19 students fatally shot in the 2022 Uvalde school massacre.
Anti-gun violence activist Sarah Fishkind filmed the interaction in the Capitol on Tuesday.
The Republican representative from Colorado is seen quickly grabbing the pamphlet and then throwing it in the trash, as a bystander is heard off-camera saying, “We hope you take action on gun violence prevention.”
In a separate video, the pamphlet is in a nearby trash can.

Activists, including Parkland survivor David Hogg, condemned the interaction.
“Lauren Boebert just threw away a pamphlet of a mother fighting to honor her child who was gunned down and murdered in her classroom,” he wrote on Twitter. “This is how Congress treats survivors.”
The flier included testimony from Maite’s mother and a green pin, modeled after the green Converse sneakers the student’s family used to help identify her body.
“On that fateful morning, my daughter walked out of our home, not knowing she would never return to her mother,” the pamphlet read. “It was the last week of school and she was excited about watching movies with her friends.”
“Maite, her classmates, and her teachers were killed with an AT-15 style rifle in their classrooms. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” it continued. “We must ban assault weapons in this country and protect our children.”
The Independent has contacted Rep. Boebert for comment.
Lives Robbed told The Independent in a statement, “The video of Rep. Boebert throwing out the pin of Maite’s Shoes is disgusting and beyond insulting. We will not be resharing the video.”
Ms. Boebert, who once ran a gun-themed restaurant in Colorado called Shooters Grill, is a staunch opponent of gun control laws.
In June, she was accused of blowing past gun violence survivors hoping to speak with her in Washington.

She has previously compared new gun laws to banning planes after 9/11.
“When 9/11 happened, we didn’t ban planes,” she told Fox News earlier this year. “We secured the cockpit.”
“I want our schools secured, I want their children protected, and I want teachers that can protect themselves and their students,” she added. “And you know what? We can achieve this without trying to disarm law-abiding citizens.”
She has previously mocked Mr. Hogg online, telling him to “give it a rest” when he criticised her record on safety issues.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday announced a new proposal cracking down on "military-style assault weapons" and handgun sales, triggering alarm among Republicans in the U.S. who have resisted any gun restrictions in the wake of deadly mass shootings.
Trudeau announced a mandatory buyback program targeting assault weapons and new regulations that will ban sales and imports of handguns. The legislation is expected to pass.
The announcement triggered right-wing lawmakers and pundits south of the Canadian border.
"The dystopian future Trudeau is manifesting in Canada is coming to America if US citizens don't get involved," tweeted Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky.
"Canada is turning into New Zealand and they are also trying to do it here," wrote Republican Arizona state Sen. Wendy Rogers, one of the most extreme right-wing lawmakers in the country. "Sound the alarm we must never give up our guns."
Fox News host Mark Levin lamented that "Canada is gone." Bernie Kerik, the former New York police commissioner — who pled guilty to eight felonies related to tax fraud but was later pardoned by Donald Trump — called the restrictions "Trudeau's final push toward Communism."

Three victims who emerged from the school with a pulse later died. In the case of two of those victims, critical resources were not available when medics expected they would be, delaying hospital treatment for Mireles, 44, and student Xavier Lopez, 10, records show.
Another student, Jacklyn “Jackie” Cazares, 9, likely survived for more than an hour after being shot and was promptly placed in an ambulance after medics finally gained access to her classroom. She died in transport.
The disjointed medical response frustrated medics while delaying efforts to get ambulances, air transport and other emergency services to victims. Medical helicopters with critical supplies of blood tried to land at the school, but an unidentified fire department official told them to wait at an airport 3 miles away. Dozens of parked police vehicles blocked the paths of ambulances trying to reach victims.

Another elementary school shooting in the U.S.
Heartbreaking.

When will our nation join the rest of the developed world in behaving like a civilized country regarding gun regulation?
Gun use had been regulated since the founding of our nation. Unfortunately, that all changed with the conservative Supreme Court’s decision to overturn 200 + years of precedent in the 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller decision that reinterpreted the Second Amendment to mean that there is an individual right to bear arms.
The current Supreme Court is poised to continue to gut gun control laws.
The rest of the world is looking on and shaking its collective head in horror.

Police are worse than fucking useless.
18 little kids and 3 adults are DEAD because of these worthless fucks. DIRECTLY BECAUSE of their refusal to act.
THEY LITERALLY MADE THIS SITUATION WORSE AND THEN DARE TO DEMAND RECOGNITION FOR THEIR "BRAVERY."

Just five months after the Robb Elementary School school shooting in Uvalde, the worst school shooting in Texas history, the pro-gun Gov. Greg Abbott won the race to keep his post by a landslide.
Critics slammed Abbott following the shooting on May 24, criticizing the Governor for blaming the shooting — which killed 19 children — on gang violence and mental-health concerns of the shooter.
Beto O'Rourke, who challenged Abbott in the race, ran on a mandate to raise the minimum age to purchase an AR-15-style rifle. Many of the families directly impacted by the shooting hoped he'd be the next Governor of Texas.
He'd previously accused Abbott of inaction following the Uvalde shooting, saying, "You are doing nothing. You are offering us nothing. You said this was not predictable. This is totally predictable when you choose not to do anything."
Indeed, in June 2021, Abbott signed a law allowing people to carry handguns without licenses.
"Texas will always be the leader in defending the Second Amendment, which is why we built a barrier around gun rights this session," he said at the time.
The families sat at a Uvalde bar and grill on election night for a results party, eagerly awaiting the election news, according to the Texas Tribune. But when news outlets announced that Abbott had won big and retained his support in Uvalde County, with more than 60% of voters backing the Republican, disappointment descended on the party, the Texas Tribune reported.
"Unfortunately, 21 people dead doesn't change people's minds," Jazmin Cazares, 17, whose 9-year-old sister, Jacklyn, was killed at the Robb Elementary school shooting, said, the outlet reported.
Veronica Mata, a kindergarten teacher, chimed in, "Everybody has the right to vote for whoever they want, we just hoped that they would see where we were coming from and see what we wanted to change."
Berlinda Arreola, a grandmother of 10-year-old Amerie Jo Garza, who was killed in the shooting, said, "The only thing that is going to change people's minds is when it happens to them."

THE FIGHT GOES ON
John Lira, the Democratic candidate who lost his challenge against Rep. Tony Gonzales for a Texas congressional seat, joined the families at the watch party.
According to the Tribune, he described O'Rouke's loss and Abbott's win, as "crushing" but said, "it just means that the fight goes on."
"This community, these families, they fought their ass off for change, for a new vision, for somebody that will listen to them and be responsive to them and what happened to this community," he added.
Writing on Twitter, Kimberly Garcia, the mother of Amerie Jo Garza, said, "one thing is for sure, I will NEVER stop fighting for my children and yours."
