John K. King Used and Rare Books
I had a wonderful walk today on this beautiful 55 degree afternoon!
I hopped off the Fort/Cass People Mover and made my way over to Lafayette Street to visit John K. King Books, one of my favorite places to spend a few hours. The largest bookstore in Michigan, John K. King features four levels of books to peruse; you'll find everything from the classics to art, film, spirituality, and even artwork.
After leaving the store, I walked down Lafayette and enjoyed some of Desiree Kelly's vibrant pieces, one of my favorite artists in Detroit.

I bought this used copy of Stephen King‘s Misery years ago, and I haven’t gotten around to reading it until now. Sacrilege, I know. I had never read the book, only seen the movie. Spoiler alert: the book is obviously better. 🖤 I get to pages 162 and 163, a dark night of the soul scene, and I find this leaf pressed between the pages. It’s autumn and my yard is full of similar leaves. Not sure how this fragile memento made it past the bookstore, or how long it’s been there, but I love finding treasures like this. My boss handed me this book, raised her brow, and said that she saw “potential” in me. It got me to the conversation of what I wanted to achieve and in taking this new job at a smaller company-it is a lateral move for me. But I’m not interested in stopping at lateral growth. Opportunities can present themselves, but also sometimes we must prepare ourselves and pursue a “growth mindset”. This book not only comes with actionable and practical advise, it also comes with exercises at the end of each Law for how to start executing what you are reading into your daily life and how each law affects the overall vision and victory. If there’s one series I would recommend from this author, it would be this one.

Challenges faced by UPSC aspirants
In India having a government job guarantees you the utmost prestige in your family. And it is truly justified as government exams are one of the hardest exams to crack. It needs:
High level of self-discipline
Great resilience power
Years of hard work
Good general awareness
A zeal to contribute towards the nation
Let us see what are the various challenges an UPSC aspirant faces while preparing for the exam.
Getting started: UPSC is no child’s play. There are so many options and so many things to take care of. Where to start, when to start and how to start? So many questions pop in mind at once. Some students spend a lot of time in planning, procrastinating it. While others do not plan enough and thus get confused on later stage.

Reportedly, the count of students who apply for a UPSC exam has rose from 3 lakhs (approximately) to 11 lakhs (approximately) while the number of vacancies stands at a total of 1105. This increases competition.
3.Loads of Syllabus: UPSC exam tests your knowledge about every subject possible. It tests your knowledge about History, Geography, Economics, Political state of the country, Mathematics and much more. It becomes hectic to complete all on time.
It will require you to adapt a holistic approach and revise everything for at least 2 times.
4. Facing Family and societal pressure: As soon as people get to know that someone is preparing for UPSC exam, it automatically raises their expectations of that person. It does earn you a lot of respect but with that respect also comes a lot of pressure. Pressure of cracking the UPSC exam.
At times like this even motivating words can feel very overwhelming. Students should only focus on their plan and work towards achieving it. They should focus on doing better than yesterday.
