God, not me going down a rabbithole learning about traditional vietnamese lacquer painting and being overcome by the need to get into this craft. Like, perhaps I am Many-Much biased but sơn mài is one of the most unique and beautiful styles of lacquer art. I wish this artform had more international recognition because it’s absolutely incredible.
And I’m so pissed that there has been little to no international interest in it, because I’ve been obsessed with lacquer art since I was a kid, but whenever I tried to learn more about the process, all the info I found was about maki-e. Even now, when I look for materials to try it myself, I’m stuck with sourcing urushi, and it’s kind of heartbreaking. I want to learn and participate in my culture’s artistic heritage, but the only way for me to do so is to rely on another culture’s popularity and materials.

FFXIV 7.0 job guess - Painter
Mythril foil hat disclaimer
Relm's painter = TMNT Donatello named after a painter + FGO Foreigner Hokusai fights with a brush + Magic class for bringing painting to life
Tumblr media
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are name after painters (biggest hint and thought line for me)
Relm is a painter
Donatello fights with a quarterstaff
Foreigner class Hokusai (or his daughter Oi in this case... long story) fights with a brush!!! and her moves are really pretty!!!!!
That Stormblood raid - Sigmascape 2.0
Paint Emote
youtube
Finally quarterstaff without going Lancer!!! Alternate weapons, mop, fountain pen, pencils, brushes, broom, regular quarterstaff
Or quarterstaff is the melee job so..... covering base because Donatello
Can't just quarterstaff without stepping on Estinien's territory
My job mentor can't be a teenage ninja painter koujin or a qiqirn (Splinter) Is there a meme lord on the Dev team?
Job quest involves a young painter girl
Some Orthardian guy fixated with koujin soup
Do I have to shell out all my TMNT and FFVI memories just to guess this?
Stormblood got added to free trial because Teenage magic painter koujin's homeground in Tamamizu?
The Artist Alphinaud finds a magic paint brush and muscled in on the new job..... Well magic ranged
short of a location with Renaissance vibes for human painters quartet, Orthard folklore takes over with magic paintbrush found in Tamamizu? And we Donatello
Is very colorful job but I only have Bard for reference but see Enshrined Byakko lutebow for for inkblot reference
Depend on your brush for sumi ink black, oil brush colors, watercolor, watercolor pencils(?) pastel color stick (or makeup brush-ish)
Dry color vs wet color differences? I never Splatoon or Mario paint so I can only Urushi-e guess from Hokusai.
Return of the Four Lords
the ink kraken that we fight is not Ultros covered in ink, nope not at all
a sneaky reference to Ookami pops in because is Orthard after all.
Alternate dual wield brush and palette version
Dual stance - Little brush and palette switch to big brush equipment pending
Uhhh... Leofard's Granddad is one of the job quest people?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind~~~~~` Is a dynamis job emotions given form
The totally totally off grid guess that it combines Geomancer because of sealing talismen (draw boulders, splash water, cast wind, throw flame)
Van Gogh, fellow servant from FGO also fights with gaint brush too
Hokusai is the Relm we have all along!!!! Quarterstaff -brush WANTS!!! There should be another fighting game character that fights with a brush (not exactly Ookami) but Hokusai is the most recent one in my memory because I'm playing the game currently
Dang it Exarch!!! Summon Hokusai!!!
FGO mobile version for Foreigner Hokusai fighting style
Arcade fighting game version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p5kROCRjLc
The earlier one that I can't remember Samurai showdown - Morozumi Taizan.
No I didn't forget, she isn't in my stable of servants. But Van Gogh(long story), who is a little less fancy but brighter paintwise than Hokusai
I haven't played Splatoon so I can't comment.
--------------
Post reveal - Leonardo is the dual blade viper combined to become quarterstaff Donatello. the fusion is unexpected since FFIX memories fuzzy. but the Zidane!! - Painting Pictomancer palette version bigger brush - a Relm referenced

Okay because I’m really passionate about this. This is a Pilot fountain pen, with a cigar shape body and gold trim. This is one of their higher end pens, an artisan pen so this pattern is hand made by a maki-e artisan in Japan, this is a process that is very precious, it’s an honor to learn and takes years to master. This is maki-e which is made with dust, metallic dust. I think this is regular gold dust (I don’t think is gold gold, but it’s gold colored dust). The body of the pen is turned plastic, and then it is carefully painted with urushi layers. Then once dried it is hand polished. Then the process of creating the dragonfly wing lace pattern begins. This one is dipped into water to create the pattern, so no two are alike. Once the gold dust is set, it is coated again with more layers of urushi and again hand polished. Urushi is resin from the Urushi tree and it is slightly toxic to humans, and causes minor skin irritation to severe allergic reactions. But once urushi is dry, it is pretty much indestructible, it is resistant to almost anything like alcohol or acid, it’s antibacterial, and resistant to water.
Here are more incredible art works hand painted on fountain pens:

Mr. Cypress is an independent artist and pen maker. They do incredible work. Namiki is Pilot’s luxury LUXURY brand and as you can see, it’s absolutely beautiful work. These aren’t pens, these are hand made art works.
There’s also urushi raden which is the same process but inlaid with mother of pearl! These two are mg favorites, Namiki again, the Milky Way and Shooting Star which use maki-e and raden techniques.

Ok that’s all

A previously unpublished photo from 2008. This is a Pelikan fountain pen from a private collection decorated with a samurai design. The design is created using two maki-e techniques, togidashi-maki-e which involves sprinkling gold dust between layers of urushi lacquer, establishing the background upon which the rest of the design is built. The samurai is taka maki-e, a raised artwork that adds texture to the pen. #pencollecting #fountainpen #artpen #samurai #makie #togadashi #taka #penhero https://www.instagram.com/p/Cin6SD5PzMC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Alternative investment - EBay sell vintage collections
Tumblr media
Alternative investment
quote from Fortune EBay wants to sell your grandmother’s vintage designer handbag as part of its growth strategy   Founded in 1995, eBay brought peer-to-peer online resale to the masses through its pioneering marketplace. But the e-commerce company has attracted an onslaught of competitors over the years. Nearly everyone, from mass retailers Walmart and Amazon to, more recently, specialized rivals like Vestiaire Collective and retailers like Michaels and David’s Bridal, is chipping away at its dominance. While eBay remains the largest online marketplace, with $74 billion worth of goods sold on its site in 2022 (and 1.7 billion listings), that volume was 15% below 2020. As a result, eBay CEO James Iannone, who conceded the site can’t just be an “everything” store, has focused eBay more sharply on a few core sectors, notably luxury.  We have our ebay shop since 2005; and got more than 6000+ feedback. For some of the luxury fountain pen collection please refer to our ebay shop and also our website. Here are some examples:

Unveiling the Beauty of Urushi Fountain Pens: A Masterpiece of Japanese Craftsmanship
Urushi fountain pens have gained worldwide recognition for their exquisite beauty and unparalleled craftsmanship. Rooted in ancient Japanese traditions, these pens are meticulously handcrafted using the unique technique of urushi lacquer. In this blog post, we will delve into the captivating world of urushi fountain pens, exploring the artistry, history, and enduring allure of these remarkable writing instruments.
Tumblr media
The Art of Urushi Lacquer:
Urushi is a natural lacquer derived from the sap of the urushi tree, found primarily in Japan and parts of China. The process of applying urushi lacquer to fountain pens involves multiple painstaking layers, each applied and cured individually. The layers are meticulously polished to achieve a lustrous and durable finish that enhances the natural beauty of the pen. The artistry lies not only in the application of the lacquer but also in the masterful skill of the craftsmen who create intricate designs and motifs using various techniques, such as maki-e.
Maki-e: Enhancing Elegance and Detail:
Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique that involves sprinkling metallic powders, such as gold or silver, onto wet lacquer to create intricate designs. This technique adds depth, brilliance, and an ethereal quality to urushi fountain pens. Skilled artisans meticulously handcraft motifs ranging from delicate cherry blossoms to intricate landscapes, elevating each pen to a true work of art. The combination of urushi lacquer and maki-e creates a harmonious balance between craftsmanship and aesthetics.
Timeless Beauty and Durability:
Urushi fountain pens not only captivate with their artistic beauty but also offer exceptional durability. The urushi lacquer creates a protective layer that enhances the pen's resistance to scratches, moisture, and wear. This ensures that the pen's beauty remains preserved for generations, allowing owners to enjoy both the functionality and the enduring allure of these exquisite writing instruments.
Embracing Japanese Tradition:
Urushi fountain pens embody the spirit of Japanese tradition and craftsmanship. Each pen is a testament to the meticulous attention to detail, patience, and dedication of the artisans who bring them to life. Owning an urushi fountain pen is an opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich cultural heritage of Japan, appreciating the mastery and artistry passed down through generations.
Urushi fountain pens represent the pinnacle of Japanese craftsmanship, combining the timeless elegance of urushi lacquer with the intricate artistry of maki-e. These exquisite writing instruments are a celebration of tradition, beauty, and meticulous skill. Whether you are a collector, an admirer of artistry, or simply someone who appreciates the finer things in life, an urushi fountain pen offers an unparalleled experience—a tangible piece of Japanese heritage that will continue to inspire and captivate for years to come.
