Hello I’m aware that hedgehogs held some significance in northern regions of mesopotamia where they were native, do you possibly by chance know the sumerian for hedgehog?
Hello! Hedgehogs do definitely live in Mesopotamia and were known to the Sumerians and surrounding cultures (for example, here's a link to an iconic Ugaritic hedgehog jug). However, the question of the word for "hedgehog" took me on more of a journey than I expected. In recent sources (like Halloran (2006)) there are several words for "porcupine", but none listed under "hedgehog" (or close relatives like "shrew"), and neither are there any in the ePSD. So I turned to my twitch chat to help me out.
We started with Landsberger (1934), a book in German about Mesopotamian fauna. He refers to shahbargunnu or bargungunnu as potentially "porcupine", meaning literally "pig with multicolored hide" or (without shah) "multicolor-skin creature", as well as Akkadian harbabilu or azar ili.
Landsberger's take has, however, been superseded by more recent scholarship. He refers to the tablets of Urra=hubullu (a translation of Sumerian terms into Akkadian in lexical-list form), where on tablet 15 there's a listing for bargungunnu (the reading shahbargunnu no longer being accepted) which is translated in the Oracc as "chameleon" (with bargungunnu kurra as "lizard of the mountains"). But this spot on the tablet (line 207 here) is preceded by a bunch of mammals (otter, marten, weasel) and followed by reptiles (various lizards, rock agamas, and turtles), so context doesn't help define which side it's on. And the Akkadian equivalent hurbabilu is listed as both "hedgehog" and "chameleon" in the Association Assyrophile dictionary.
The most recent source on this is Peterson (2007)'s A Study of Sumerian Faunal Conception with a Focus on the Terms Pertaining to the Order Testudines. He says the bargungunnu reading is potentially incorrect (instead reading banhuna or similar) and may derive from an earlier reading barmushena "bird-bodied" or "bird-backed", following Sjöberg (1996), so agrees that it could mean porcupine or hedgehog (a spiny back resembling the feathers of a bird). It turns out that Peterson (2007) is actually the same Jeremiah Peterson better known as @ancienttextmoderntablet here on tumblr and on instagram, so a lovely follower (h/t Refax!) reached out and got a confirmation of this (possible) interpretation - while Peterson emphasized that because this term is only really known from dictionary tablets, there's no in-context Sumerian source, so could be reinterpreted again in light of any future translated references.
So tl;dr is, there's a term that may mean "porcupine" or "hedgehog" and maybe also "chameleon", but the form, meaning and derivation of the term isn't settled and probably won't be unless we uncover a better Sumerian source referring to it. I hope that answers your question!

idk how serious the flesh heart ask/answer was but it does make me wonder if human/animal sacrifice used to be a thing for the gods? did some specifically demand it? do they miss it? I don't imagine it'd still be a thing, but if it was?
Hi Anon, this is a great ask! This would be quite spoilery to answer, but do note the content warning for non-graphic/non-explicit mentions and depictions of cannibalism for this game! 💕
I thought it was incredibly impressive you had a thought about an ask I answered half-facetiously! Thank you so much for asking, and I hope you get your answer soon! 💕💕

Sorry, I don’t really get what you are asking. Are you talking about the MC? Or the ROs?

What is the meaning of this word
Hello! These signs are 𒋛𒊒𒍑, whose basic meanings are:
𒋛 Si, "horn, line, ray or radiance, fret of a stringed instrument" or "to fill up, occupy, survey, be sufficient"
𒊒 Ru, "gift, offering, to blow, to offer" or Shub "to cast, throw, drop, fall, let fall, neglect"
𒍑 Nita "man, masculine" or us "to follow, reach, lean on, moor a boat, reinforce" or ush "foundation, to support".
However, I don't know of an example of these three signs being used together like this - it's not a Sumerian vocabulary word as far as I know, and searching the signs together brings up nothing.
Is there any additional context for this example? Or does someone else have an idea what it could mean? Thanks!

Sometimes I wonder what the little girl I used to be thinks of me now, is she confused of who I am now? Dose it confuse her that I'm a rage filled teenager who has been in and out of the hospital more than my dad in a life time? Is she scared of me when I'm mad? Dose she think I'm like my father? Dose it upset her that I no longer want to walk on earth? I will never know but I hope she's ok and that she knows I'll change

Well if you’re asking for prompts, maybe a practical magic jonsa au?
Tumblr media
Hey ya'll!
I'm going through my inbox and I have a ton of prompts I never got to, and most likely never will. I feel incredibly guilty about this, but I’ve also let them sit untouched for months now and I would like to at least respond to some if I have alternatives?
(Some prompts I will never get to because I have not seen the media referenced, and I’m sorry for that. But others that are more generic, I’m going to keep around just in case inspiration strikes!)
.
As for these two, I may never write them, but I do have alternatives to offer:
I feel like I already sort of did the witchy-sisters thing in my recent Halloween fic, the ghost inside (I did receive these prompts before I posted that, but yes, you were both correct in assuming that practical magic is right up my alley!!)
(I searched the jonsa tag for other Practical Magic AUs and... nothing.)
While You Were Sleeping... I’ve never seen it!  BUT, there is an AU out there! @hilarychuff has written one, called Door to Door Delivery, and did a graphic for it, too
.
I want to thank you both SO MUCH for the prompts and I’m very sorry I didn’t fill them in the way you expected. I love and appreciate every single person who has sent me a prompt, whether I complete it or not, and I don’t want people to feel like they can’t send me prompts if they want to. I am never annoyed by them, only ever flattered and really grateful to be a part of this fandom

i hate how the people i know brag about how they have armarouge and how my ceruledge is gonna kill me, no james just because the pokedex says it will protect you doesnt mean it will always have that personality, my ceruledge is the most timid pokemon youll ever meet and it usually has its flames very cooled down and it likes to stay near my tinkaton for protecting, no it cannot slice me, the pokedex sucks and has alot of miscompeptions, stop acting like having arm canons is much better all the time
I have never been to Paldea before and I have little information on the region so I have no advice to give about this, apologies! Your Pokémon sound amazing though :)
