octaninelle pirate au/seven seas au!

so the idea for these guys is that their ship is one of those on water restaurants, like the baratie from one piece if u know what im talking about. Also the lil shell bit in the ship that i sketched up is where azul's office, i might tweak the ship design but it works for now.

azul - he was the easiest to design since it was heavily based off of his masquerade outfit and i gave him ursula's earrings. in his merform he's probably something like the kraken and he talks about the ship like how people talk about their cars, the ones that like talk about it like it's their child.

also i haven't been able to get that drabble abt idia and azul meeting in a pub and playing cards together. they probably meet in the mostro lounge instead of a random pub and play some magical card fusion of hearthstone + that tcg game from genshin.

jade - he's got a lil mushroom pin and also he's wearing pants that look like a skirt. i gave him a jellyfish haircut and pulled it into the ponytail because a lil voice whispered in my ear and it only felt right. every couple of weeks jade will grow mushrooms in some part of the boat and then azul or floyd will find it and get rid of them, then there's mushroom dishes on the menu for like months.

floyd - personally to me he looks a lil outta place since he's dressed less formally than jade or azul but that's fine. he does have a suit like how jade and azul has one but it's a battle to get him to actually wear it (+ when he does wear it, tends to put him in a nasty mood for a bit). i kept his clothes loose cuz of that and gave him a bunch of shiny jewelry also he has those fidget rings that have the spinny middle part.

i can see him working in the bar rather than taking orders or serving food and floyd probably brags about all his scars to his clients whenever he gets the chance (the scar on his face was from riddle, they had a lovers spat </3)

The Last Straw

Captain Yukina was fine, everything was fine… well not really, rumors were spreading around about them, and it was spread around that they are indeed a Pirate Captain. Rumors spread like wildfire, some talking about their glass eye, which is true that they had one, some weren’t so kind, like some people suspecting they are a heartbreaker due to going around and being a “heartthrob”, or suspecting that they harmed merfolk, which isn’t true. Yukina was fine with the rumors, they’ve noticed that the Octavinelle dorm members and leaders have been more distant, that made their heart sting with bitterness. Though having sat through the history class of how one of the great seven’s deaths was caused and the many pirates who hunted merfolk in the past. They understood how uncomfortable they were. What wasn’t fine was how their friends started to slip away, to start believing the people that are spreading rumors, the lies and the hurtful words people say to Yukina, in their face and behind their back as if they didn’t hear it. It didn’t really mattered when Crowley just shoved task after task onto them, they were used to brutal tasks before. What really hurt was when Malleus believed it after believing in Yukina the whole time. That’s what drove them to leave, the only ones that stuck by the Captain, was their Ramshackle crew. The Ghosts and Grim all left with Yukina, leaving the dorm unhoused for days.

Crowley was the one who noticed their absence, furious he brought the house wardens to their dorm and knocked furiously to only be greeted with silence. When Crowley tries the door he found it to be unlocked. This made an uneasy feeling wash over the group as they shouted and called for Yukina, Grim, hell even the ghosts. But ended with complete nothingness. They began to search the whole dorm to find that Yukina has packed everything they had in a rush. Everyone began to panic, Crowley especially when he mentioned something about finding the way to their world. Everybody that was close to Yukina was called and excused from classes for the next few weeks to go search for them. The thing about this everyone was under the impression of bias that since they were a captain they could’ve gone and went to the beach or near the ocean. But they still drew a blank, it was then when Adeuce remembered the dwarfs mine and called everyone to follow them. During the days the three stayed in the cottage Yukina told their woes to all the creatures that visited, from other ghosts, to woodland creatures, to Faeries, they explained their side of the story, Yukina had cleaned and fixed the cottage themselves, they took time and care to everything they were surrounded by, they mined gems and used them to make jewelry and gifts to all those who lived in the area, they were happy. Until the group found them in walking around carrying a basket of foraged goods, taking just enough for them and grim to live off of while saving the rest for nature. They froze in place as they stare at their so called “friends”. Grim growled at the sight as he stands on the defensive side of Yukina.

“Why are you all here?” Yukina asks

“we were told to find you, headmasters orders” Riddle scowls

“Oh? And tell me, why should I return to that Hellhole Riddle?” Yukina replies venom dripping from their words.

“Because we can finally get rid of you, Headmaster found that way back to your world.” Ace sneers as he glares

“Really now?” Yukina questions as they set the basket down in front of their cottage “Now I am really hurt Ace, I thought we were friends.”

The group didn’t even notice the surroundings slowly becoming crowded with the creatures that listened to the Captains woes, all angered at the boys.

“Why would I be friends with a monster?” Ace asks

Yukina goes silent as their face is now unreadable, the group feels the atmosphere change as they finally noticed the many creatures surrounding them “a monster huh?” Yukina says as the group notices tears of black drip down Yukina’s face.

“after all I’ve done for you all and this.” Yukina barks a laugh “THIS. Is how I’m repaid?”

The whole group is silent, as they watch Yukina’s harsh icy glare faces them. “You all believed such foolish lies that have been spread around due to a bias and grudge against pirates, I have shown you all nothing but kindness. I WAS THE ONE THAT BROUGHT MOST OF YOU BACK TO YOUR SENSES AFTER YOU OVERBLOTED, AND THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME?!?” Yukina screams out in agony as ink consumes them. Everyone was shocked, confused, and terrified of what was happening as they all ready their pens. The creatures that surrounded them all walked over to the side of their Captain. A low husky chuckle escapes Yukina’s mouth as their form changes and shifts into a siren-like pirate overblot. A terrifying form to those who witness it, as it shows that Yukina themselves is part Merfolk themselves. And everyone wasn’t expecting it at all.

As their eyes gaze over the group they stare into the eyes of the fellow merfolk, Yukina knew that they started it all, because of course they would.

“Are you happy with the outcome friends?” Yukina questions as many trembled in fear.

“Because that was the Last Straw.”

𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞

Hyperventilating. Where are you - why weren't you here? You were late. you were never late. It was your wedding day and yet 5 minutes have passed since the music started. He looks to his groomsmen; trey and cater, who were too busy in a silent argument.

Ace was supposed to get you, hand you off to your father, and join Deuce as your ‘groom of honor’ ( you insisted it was them and not some 'grossest' noblewoman)

But yet, you were late.

The Shrill of a seagull was heard as he glanced to the dock. Eyes gravitating towards the closed harbor. Like a fishbowl. The harbor was surrounded by beautiful cliffside meadows where you and Riddle would frolic to.

he almost smiles as he sees the color of the pansies and wildflowers in bloom. he couldn't help but reminisce about the time he found you. There in the apple tree, munching on a golden delicious as he demanded you to come down from there. Of course, you said 'no.' And claimed that you owned the tree.

And just like today, only a few ships are sailing in the harbor. A few chosen Heartsbyual and Pomefiore ships were allowed to sail.

His head slowly fell to the small audience. His mother deemed it only nectary to have a small venue to officiate it. Then put on a big show for your people.

Oh right- his mother.

He couldn't help but tense up as he met his mother's eye. The woman gestured to him to ‘smile’. Her example was more hypocritical than helpful as the scrunch on her brow and the painfully fake smile on her lips made her seem rather cynical.

But it was no use. The whispers were getting louder and the glances were getting harsher. Trey mumbled about how you were probably just nervous. That you would walk through that door and down that aisle any second now, a smile on your face and love in your eyes.

But nothing happened.

No dramatic entrance

No Ace beckoning Crewel or his mother

Nothing.

Only hushed silence was heard as the piano player stopped, and the flower girl and ring bearer joined their parents.

You had both talked about this. Both told each other about your worries about the wedding and about the future that seems closer than it is further. But he couldn't help wonder- Had you lied to him?

A hand met his shoulder. Trey’s comforting smile did nothing for his nerves as he told him he would go see if you were okay with Cater.

“No” Riddle whispered, eyeing his mother who was in a heated conversation with Crewel. “That would prove that something is wrong. And nothing is wrong” he could feel his teeth start to clench and his cheeks start to heat up.

But a quick few taps to his back had him taking deep breaths in, and deep breaths out.

Riddle’s mom stood up, giving Riddle a sideways glance as she muttered something to Crewel as she made her way to the door of the large balcony that was overseeing the cliffside, and by extension- the sea.

Riddle couldn't help but stare at the sea. Trey asked Cater if Crewel had allowed trade today due to the wedding. ‘No’ Riddle thought, a churning feeling spreading throughout his gut as the ship went towards the apple pass. Both where you met and Riddle proposed.

“Your highness! Admiral Rosehearts!” The doors flung open with a slam. Ace Trapolla, your ‘man of honor’ bent over panting. Eyes flickering anywhere and everywhere. His suit was both sullied and wet. And so was the carpet as he dripped like a dog who just took a bath.

Riddle stepped down, eyeing Ace as they both held stern eye contact as Ace stomped towards him, ignoring his mother's questions.

“Y/n has been kidnapped!”

Ace gasped at the feeling of Riddle’s hands tightening around his. Trey Deuce and Cater’s collective gasps covered up the cowards as Riddle’s mother banished them from the ceremony. Not to even think about what happened when outside the palace.

“What?” Crewel raised from his front pew, loafers thundering as Riddle ran towards the banister, watching the ship disappear from the view in between the cliffs.

“Ace what the fuck do you mean my child’s been kidnapped? Where were you! Why didn’t you help them!”

“I couldn't your highness! I wasn't ab-“

“I save you from death all those years ago and- and this- this is how you repay me Trappolla?” Crewel was screaming with anger. Grip getting ever so tighter on Ace’s ruined tux as a seam or two cried in agony.

“Who.” Riddle asks. Deep down already knew the answer as his back still faced the group. White paint chipped from his fingertips as his face blew up like a tomato’s.

“Who”

“A pirate!” Ace was thrown from Crewel’s grasp. Stumbling off to look at Riddle.

Crewel’s gasp could be heard. A heartbroken no slipped from his lips as his knees buckled, Deuce catching him as his cane wobbled from the unbalanced weight.

“Who”

“Leona Kingscholar! His men-”

Riddle’s hand shot out, silencing the young guard as Trey and Cater consoled the frazzled Ace. His mind and body separated as he kept mumbling obscenities.

Slamming his hand on the railing, nails forming indents on his palm as Trey swore the whole dock below them could hear Riddle's grinding teeth.

Riddle roared, pushing away from the banister as Trey and Cater followed quickly behind him. “When I get my hands on him- it’ll be off his head!”

𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐚

The darkening clouds and restless sea were no problem for pirate lord Leona Kingscholar. He could steer his ship through a squall with his eyes closed.

The raging seas and tempests were what he lived for, what he craved for. As it spiced up his and the crew's experience. The latter later going ashore and bragging about how they were in the jaws of the leviathan, or a foot in Davy Jones's locker. But kicked and clashed their way out. As well as confirming how hardcore they were.

Especially as they were in the Octavinelle seas. Crawling- well treading with sea monsters that escaped the depths of hell and infested themselves in the sea of the damned.

Albeit Leona saw nothing wrong with it. He’s killed his fair share of sharks and sirens. Not afraid to shoot at a looming shadow that seemed to follow stalk his crew.

But again- these were the Octavinelle seas. Where up was down, and back was forth and ahead they were entering the elephant's graveyard to escape those pesky navy men.

A shipwreck hotspot that got its nickname years ago when a smuggling ship was carrying a couple of elephants. During the night, a baby worth a hefty penny had wandered too close to the railing. Losing its footing from the rocking of the boat. And fell.

Of course, the others went overboard too. There to save the young one, but ultimately meeting their fates at the hands of the abyss as their anger and betrayal brought down every ship that managed to sail in their graveyard.

But Leona didn’t believe in any of that.

The elephants were dead and their spirits had moved on. That’s it. End of story. Like most spirits who died at sea, they were collected, had their judgment day, and moved on. Reuniting at the pearly gates and all that other bullshit.

so once the weather started to pick up, bringing his hat from his chest. He went to work.

Leona would never, ever back down from a fight he couldn't win. But this one. He'd rather avoid it overall.

but the wind laughed crudely as it blew his sails in the wrong direction.

"Leona!" Ruggie called, eyes widening from the deck. Nervously fiddling his shirt as he recognized the wind's cruelness

"Leona get us the fuck outta ‘ere!"

"I'm trying! And if you would shut up I could concentrate! Hoist the colors!"

Leona Kingscholar slept with both eyes closed constantly. Not caring who said what or who did what. He wasn't afraid of any man, woman, or child that crossed his path- claiming they'd get revenge with snot running down their nose as brain gunk soon following.

No sea tale kept him up at night as he called out each flaw in each story someone would present to him

there was nothing he was afraid of...

Though he made sure to steer clear of Davy Jones's locker. And the man who just got promoted to run it.

Azul Ashengrotto.

The whistling winds started to sing, started to belt as the waves grew sadistic. Kissing the crew like a jealous lover as she pulled unlucky crewmen back with them.

His grip tightened at the helm. Eyes squinting from the spraying water, and teeth clenching from the sheer amount of effort it took to steer the ship around the eye of the storm.

Though he never crossed paths with Ashengrooto. A few close calls were all he remembered. He's heard rumors about the Monstro. How it plowed the eye of squalls. Letting the ocean rip and tear apart ships before swooping in like vultures and picking the scraps.

Scraps, men on the brink of death- same thing different story. He wasn't planning on handing his men over to that slimy captain and working hundred years- and for what? Delayed judgment? He laughs every time he thinks about it. If you didn't like what you did on the seas then you shouldn't have done it at all.

Or at least have pride in what you did. Like Leona

“Jack” he called. His yell was swept away by the wind as the latter was too busy securing the riggings and helping Ruggie bark orders in Leona’s steed.

He couldn't let go of the helm, the winds as even a slip up would mean uncertain doom.

“Jack” he roared, catching the wolf's attention as water crashed from the sea and onto the deck.

He was seeing less and less of his crew and he didn't like that. Nor did he like the shadow of an ocean-scarred ship in the distance.

He gripped the helm tighter.

A crack of lightning struck the waves next to him. Just as an idea struck him. Spinning the helm aggressively to the left, he remembers what he told grim- you.

"That in a squall, no one would hear you. No one would care if you were thrown around like a rag doll since you were 'safely' below deck. Away from the harsh seas.

Though the flooding water always seemed to be a problem for Ruggie. Now for Leona as knee-deep water was perfect for a few stowaways

“Check the prisoners- now”

There was a vile, slimy taste in his mouth. A shiver racked up his spine. Not just from the tormenting waves that sprayed him causing his clothes to cling to his bones.

It was all too perfect. The rougher than usual storm, the constant sprays from the sea, the flinging of crewmates.

That blasted ship.

And that god-forsaken dream.

Azul Ashengrotto had something to do with this. Whether it was him wanting his crewmates for his own, something else, or both. All he knew was that there was more to this attack than he was led to believe.

And he didn't like that.

Thunder crackled through the sky, and another streak of lightning was seen. That’s twice now. In the same spot on his right.

“Capt’n! Capt’n!” Jack came barreling up from the brig. Hat and bandana were long gone as he would undoubtedly catch a cold when this was done. A nasty one was his whole body was drenched. His shirt and pants were a part of him now as scratches decorated his chest.

His eyes lost and brows furrowed as he ran up the stairs and to the stern where Leona was.

“They’re gone. The water was deeper than usual- up to my thighs as they had bite marks in them!”

Leona sucked his breath in. Not focusing on the news too much as he spun the helm quickly, avoiding another crashing wave.

“That slimy octo-fuck”

A Chance Meeting

About this AU: This is a Pirate AU inspired by Cater's Halloween card quote that mentions HLB having pirate costumes the previous year! It will be a series of reader inserts that are very loosely connected. The HLB members are part of a pirate crew lead by the 'Red Tyrant' (Riddle) and the others have codenames based on their card suits! (Very original I know <3)

They fics do not have to be read in order, and reader is NOT the same in every fic. The only thing that stays consistent is the background of being on a ship together and being an infamous pirate crew!

It started with one random brainrot and became a series, but I hope you enjoy!

Pirate AU: Cater Diamond; Deuce Spade; Riddle Rosehearts; Trey Clover

He let out a sigh as he settled down on the rock looking over the shore. The others had taken up camp not too far away, this seemingly deserted Island their refuge of the day.

As fun as it was being one Cards, living under Riddle's rules was more stressful than he had expected.

"Seriously, how many pirates have this many rules?"

He runs a hand through his ginger locks, scarlet gaze fixed on the way the moonlight was illuminated upon the ocean. It was relaxing to find time alone.

Except, he wasn't actually alone.

"I've never seen pirates as organized as you guys."

The melodic voice jarred him out of his thoughts, his gaze scanning the area as his hand rested on the hilt of his sword.

"Who's there?"

Ace scowled into the darkness, a quiet swoosh heard as he he pulled his silver sword out of the scabbard.

"Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you."

He blinked in confusion, searching for the voice until he realized where it was coming from.

The water.

His grip on the sword loosened slightly as he looked into the water. Where there had been nothing but the sky's reflection before, there was now someone looking back up at him.

Despite their words, he tensed up, everything clicking into place at the sight of a tail.

A siren.

You let out a giggle at the look of surprise on his expression, your tail splashing some water as you lean against the rock.

"Don't worry, we're not all bad. You know how people love twisting the stories."

He hesitated briefly, gaze searching yours as he slowly set down his sword.

"I never expected to see a siren in my lifetime..."

"Life's full of surprises."

"You're not what I expected."

"Is anyone?"

He pouts slightly at the way you easily respond to him, hiding how he felt at ease in your presence. You merely giggle in response, hoisting yourself up to sit beside him on the rock, your fins staying dipped within the water.

"So what's on your mind, sailor?"

As the moon rises higher into the sky, you continue talking. The conversations ranges from the silliest of topics, such as the last time he went swimming, to the deepest of topics, such as the way he struggled on the ship.

And with each moment, he found himself relaxing more and more. You were like a breath of fresh air.

Someone he could talk to without worrying about the rules. Someone he could laugh with without wondering what comes next.

Someone he could be himself with.

"This Riddle person sounds difficult."

He lets out a quiet chuckle, eyes fluttering shut as he lays down on the rock.

"He can be. But I know it's all because he cares. That's why I stay on the ship."

"Do you want to keep staying there?"

Your question catches his attention, and he looks up at you, noticing the way you were looking at him intently.

"Where else can I go?"

"Come with me?"

"What?"

He laughed lightly, shaking his head at your sudden offer.

"I appreciate the offer, but I can't breath down there."

"What if I told you I could make it possible?"

He blinks in surprise, slowly pushing himself back into a sitting position. You can see the questions in his expression, and the slight temptation that swims in his gaze.

"I'm sorry."

His apology is barely a whisper, regret filling his scarlet eyes as he leans forward to press a kiss to your forehead.

"I can't leave my crew behind."

You wilt slightly, resting your head on his shoulder. You couldn't argue with him. You would struggle just as much to leave your life behind.

"I know..."

"But I'm sure we'll see each other again."

"We will?"

You weren't expecting that.

"We will!"

He chuckles as he looks up at the sky, his fingers lacing through yours as he gave your hand a slight squeeze.

"Think of all the stories we'll be able to tell each other!"

His excitement lightens your spirits, and you let out a giggle, your tail slapping against the water.

"You're right. We will see each other again."

"I'm always right."

You shake your head in exasperated affection, giving him a smile as you kiss his cheek.

"Sure you are."

You shift, preparing to slip back into the water when you feel his hands on your shoulders.

"Hm-?"

Your eyes widen in shock as presses his lips against yours. As you melt into the kiss, you close your eyes, leaning into his embrace.

When he finally pulls away, your fingers slowly slip out of his as you slide into the water.

"Something to remember me by."

"As if I could have forget you, Ace."

With that, you're gone, the only sign of your presence quickly fading with the waves.
