do I like them:
I didn’t really have an opinion on him throughout the series, then I read the Illustrated Guide and decided I liked him - if only for how he handled the Sam/Emily clusterfuck and REVIVED her after she was hurt. My dude is the same age as Jacob, probably 15y/o at the time, and he handled it like a bloody champ.
5 good qualities:
someone has to be Sam Uley’s best mate I guess lol
he entertains Embry's side bets
seemed a pretty decent Second to Sam before Jacob took over
best vision in the Pack
makes little Kim happy, probably
3 bad qualities:
Everything about that scene in Breaking Dawn when he tried to play peacemaker and said to Jacob that he’d “torn” their family apart after he defected gtfo
Pulled the guilt thing on Seth: “Sue asked me to tell you—no, to beg you—to come home. She’s brokenhearted, Seth. All alone. I don’t know how you and Leah can do this to her. Abandon her this way, when your dad just barely died—”

listen I understand why people dislike Jacob because he assaults Bella and is generally very unnecessarily mean throughout eclipse & BD, but you also cannot have discussions about his actions without factoring in that he’s a native american boy written by a racist white woman. it’s not as if Jacob Black is a real person with his own free will that did those things. a white woman wrote him like that to cause tension & conflict between her white primary couple.

it’s kind of hilarious that stephanie meyer uses copious romeo & juliet references in the twilight saga, her book series which features two teenagers whose bloodlines have a centuries-old feud that forbids them from coming into contact, and they both struggle with feeling like their destiny is out of their hands because of something their families decided for them, but they share a common goal– and these two characters are NOT the ones who are supposed to parallel romeo and juliet

we deserved to see Bella teaching Edward how to cook. just because he wanted to learn to take care of her in a human way. Bella eyeballs every measurement and cooks a lot of things from memory, but Edward has to follow the recipe exactly. she gets him to open all the jars that are stuck shut. he hugs her from behind and watches over her shoulder while she works. ugh. they deserved more happy domestic moments.

The Twilight Saga is a tragedy, not a romance. It could’ve been, it had the potential to be but the end of Eclipse reveals it all. Bella succumbs to her addiction to Edward & chooses vampirism/death over growth & healing. Human Bella is what makes the series & sadly, we never even got to see her thrive.

I feel like if Chris Weitz directed Twilight we would’ve gotten more depth, detail & organic/soft/playful romance between Bella & Edward. I think he would’ve put emphasis on the chapters where Edward first stays & talks all night with Bella into the morning (aka the best chapter imo) we would’ve probably gotten the blood typing scene as well I feel. I really would have loved to see that version of Twilight, the warm version that was closer to the book that also had that edge + brooding.

I think if the first Twilight movie showed more of Bella’s HAPPIER, playful side along with the heartfelt conversations & build up to the intense romance with Edward, the New Moon depression scene would have been much more impactful.
