Had a frozen lasagna meal last night from the supermarket. Quite tasty, but also upset my tummy quite a bit. Woke up with a painful, bloated lower belly that I had to relieve right away - headed for the toilet and doubled over, just holding my aching gut as I pushed to try and get it out. I could tell I wasn’t done when I finished, though, so I went and had a coffee.

That did the trick… somewhat. Went and let loose again a second time, palming my upset tum and rubbing it hard to try and get it out before I left for work. Then mid morning, I felt as though I had to go again - and I did. More poured out of me painfully. Thankfully it stopped after lunch. I felt like I needed to go again, but it was just gas and a bit of a residual crampy feeling.

It’s the beginning of fire season, so I’m going to share this memory and some advice I learned the hard way.

In fall 2020 the wild fires on the west coast were so bad that you could barely see 15 feet at times. Where I lived the aqi hit 590 at one point. We could not evacuate and we had no insulation in our house.

The gas masks saved us. Me and my roommates taped our windows shut and wore respirators in the house for a week. I did this sketch of them while we were watching the muppet movie one night.

Most of you will have experience a fire or smoke storm at some point, this is not going away. Smoke inhalation can have permanent and long term effects.

Get a respirator mask, and get replacement filters for organic and biological material. They can be as cheep as $12, and even if you don’t think you’re at risk, it is not something you want to find out you need afterwards. If you can afford to, get extras. Someone you know might need it.

My tummy has been really upset :( I’ve been eating out a lot because I have people visiting, and it’s a big change from me cooking everything. My stomach is just bloated and feeling sick all the time - my guts are growling and gassy, and I’ve been getting bouts of diarrhea. Every single time I go, it hurts and it’s loose. My tummy starts cramping and I know I can’t hold it for long, and it’s inconvenient when I’m out. Just… my tummy hurts :(
