the fan-cast for a historical k-drama ft. Shiyoon, Sunghoon, Siwan, and the others had me intrigued! You mentioned about not-having-found pictures for Historical Dongshik and Joowon (jkjk, it's Ha-Kyun and Jin-Goo) so I casually scrolled on mydramalist to find pictures of them babzhhjdggj...
Yeo Jin Goo previously starred at 2019 Historical Drama "The Crowned Clown" (which, coincidentally, it's original tv streaming network was tvn)
here are pictures I found <333
Tumblr media
and then Shin Ha Kyun's Empire of Lust (2015-one-of-those-joseon-dynasty-movies) which, quote," If you want too see the ass of the main leads this is the movie for you."
Tumblr media
oof, If they were all casted in the same drama, I'd say it'll be a miracle( and bonus + the picturesque cast!!) since all of them are main-stream and well-known actors and actresses. but it's free to dream right? :DD
first off, thank you for taking the time and the effort to find more pictures to add to my imagination😭 (Hakyun looks so cool, I might actually consider watching the movie 👀)
secondly, I’m so happy someone agrees that this would be a top-tier cast! I’m not sure what the synopsis would be but I just know it would be 10/10😩 (also this might be an excuse for me to mesh the psychopath diary, strangers from hell, and beyond evil cast together but that’s besides the point—)
it would be even greater if the writers let them keep their characters names but then again two dongsik’s may be confusing😓

For most people who have never had a deep exposure to Buddhist thought, Wonhyo is remembered only as the 'monk who drank the skull', but in fact, he is one of the leading thinkers not only in Buddhism but throughout the entire history of the religious world. In China and Japan, there were also many monks who were influenced by his thoughts. His book, Mahayana Buddhism, was the best treatise on Mahayana Buddhism at the time, and his book, The Ten Cultures, was a collection of Buddhist theories that were popular at the time.
The Japanese Jodo Shinshu (or Ikhyang sect), which is famous for Ikko Ikki and Honganji Temple, which opposed Oda Nobunaga, is also a sect founded under the influence of Wonhyo's book Yusimanrakdo.#
According to written by the Japanese monk Jang Jun, when Wonhyo pointed out the error of Xuanzang Sanzang, the discussion of the upper decision ratio (相違決定比量) was transmitted to China, Chinese scholars contacted it, and Wonhyo It is written that he bowed three times toward the east. Let's think about who is the target of bowing three times in Buddhism.
Emperor Dojong of the Liao Dynasty, who had received Wonhyo's writings through Goryeo, once praised Wonhyo's . On the other hand, in Korea, the influence was relatively insignificant, but it was not until the Goryeo Dynasty when the understanding of Buddhism increased that it was reexamined in earnest. [19]
The disciple of Jinnah [20], who was even called a bodhisattva as a high priest of the Indian school of enlightenment, came to Tang China, read , danced and admired it, and imported it back to India. In another record in Sungo's , a student of Jinnah saw and said, "Is this Wonhyo the successor of our teacher (Jinna)?" and took it to India. In Buddhism, 'successor of so-and-so' also means the reincarnation of a certain high priest or great virtue.
was a bestseller in Japan, but when Omi no Mifune [21] discovered a person named Hannama Seoljungeop, a grandson of Wonhyo, among the envoys from Silla in 779, It is said that he even composed a poem for him while being thrilled. [22]
Muaega, a song that Wonhyo sang by interpreting Buddhist teachings, was incorporated into the court dance of the Goryeo Dynasty under the name Muaemu, just like Cheoyongmu, and remained there until the early Joseon Dynasty. It is said that it was abandoned.[23][24] Among the musical dances created by Crown Prince Hyomyeong in the late Joseon Dynasty, there is Muak of the same name, but 200 years have passed since Muaemu disappeared, and the number of dances by one person has increased to 12, and it has changed to a dance danced by women instead of men. There is no red color at all, and the two are completely different dances. In records such as and , Wonhyo obtained a gourd obtained from clowns in the market and sang, sang, and danced at the author. It is said to have been hung and decorated. "Wielding both sleeves is because you have cut off two worldly passions/ Raising your feet three times is because you have transcended the three worlds", "Your belly is like an autumn cicada and your neck is like a summer cicada/Its bent is worthy of being followed by all sentient beings. In the poems of those who saw Muaemu in the Goryeo Dynasty, such as "The empty thing deserves all things," you can guess the dance moves of Muaemu to some extent.
In an academic sense, there are more than 160 doctoral dissertations on Wonhyo in Korea. The scope of Wonhyo's research is not only wide-ranging, from worldly salvation-oriented Buddhism to logical Buddhism, but the level of content is also at the forefront of East Asia.
Even in the Goryeo Dynasty, it was so well known that figures such as Sukjong, Uicheon, Kim Bu-sik, Lee Gyu-bo, and Il-yeon mentioned it.
While the Buddhist culture of the mid-Silla period was for the good of the present world (praying for blessings in reality), the Pure Land sect (Amitabha faith) preached mainly by Wonhyo is literally good for the afterlife because 'if you recite Amitabha, you will be reborn in paradise'. During the Silla Dynasty, the sect that became the most popular as Buddhism for the salvation of the world was the Hwaeom Order of Uisang.
Although he was a Buddhist theorist and religious figure, he contributed greatly to the popularization of Buddhism. To the public, 'Buddhist scriptures are difficult to understand, so don't worry too much about that and do your best as a living person. He is also a significant figure as a living Buddhist who approaches the people directly, represented by the content that he can only turn away from Namu Amitabha Buddha. The fact that Namu Amitabha was actually 'discovered' also came from his deep understanding and reflection on the scriptures.

I just finished to watch The Crowned Clown.
I will try to not write a novel about this drama and my feelings...
It was simply beautiful because of the story and it also was awesome and thrilling thanks to the actors.
About the ending:
By my opinion the end was made too long, although it still made my cry.
I have a tend to like sad, tragic and melancolic things - so I feel that I got a big dose of these with the last episode. There was a moment when I thought that I will not like what happened with Ha Seon finally - but I like the finale.
I really-really adore the acting of Jang Young Nam! With this role she become my most favourite actress.
I can't share screenshots in better quality this time, sorry for that!

Personal Best K-Dramas 2019
Here are my selections for the best K-Dramas of 2019. As we all are busy with lives, not all could be seen but I try my best to be at least watching 2-4 at a time.
Best Period Drama: The Crowned Clown / 왕이 된 남자 - tvN
My choice for the best historical, period drama of the year goes all the way back to the beginning of 2019. When a mad king, high on opioids thinks someone is trying to kill him, he constructs a plan to have an identical street clown sit on his throne to take the assassination. Turns out the clown makes a very fair king and falls for the Queen who has yet to have good relations with her King. Full of politics and romance, Yeo Jin-Goo gives a stellar performance as the two kings. Subtitled episodes can be found on Viki.
youtube
Best Fantasy Drama: Hotel del Luna / 호텔 델루나 - tvN
One of the highest rated dramas of the year, Hotel del Luna follows the story of Jang Man-Wol played by IU, who after committing her crimes a thousand years ago has been tied to running a hotel for ghosts before they move on to the next stage. Her destiny to finally be freed is tied to the new human general manager Koo Chan-Sung (Yeo Jin-Goo). Hesitant at first about his destiny they become a solid team helping each other in their lives and heartwarmingly helping the staff and guests of the hotel. With a killer soundtrack this drama really nailed it. Subtitled episodes can be found on Viki.
youtube
Best Medical Drama: Doctor John / 의사요한 - SBS
Doctor John was a surprising medical drama. Centered around a doctor who had previously been convicted for euthanasia. He is brought back to be the head of the pain relief department where he is seemingly able to find a cure for the most rare things. What people don’t know is that he suffers from a disease as well. Forever having excluded himself from personal relationships because of his disease he is able to grow to love and depend on one of the residents. Together they battle the debate of euthanasia and find a way to have a normal life for them. Ji Sung is stellar as Doctor John and Lee Se-Young really pulls off the caring and emotional struggles of her character. Subtitled episodes can be found on Viki.
youtube
Best/Cutest Romance: Her Private Life / 그녀의 사생활 - tvN
Every once and awhile you need something warm and fuzzy to watch and for this year Her Private Life really hit the mark. Chief art curator Sung Deok-Mi (Park Min-Young), secretly is a super fanatic fangirl of a member of a boy group. One day her new boss, Ryan (Kim Jae-Wook) comes in and is a famous former painter who is chasing down paintings his birth mother painted before he was adopted. When one of their main clients happens to be the singer she idolizes, Deok-Mi tries to keep her fangirling secret and also gets caught in a web of lies where she and her boss need to pretend to be a couple. One of the best pretend couple to real couple romance dramas I have seen, the two lead actors pull of a really natural chemistry that is adorable and sexy along with their own dramatic side stories. Subtitled episodes can be found on Viki.
youtube
Surprise Favorite: Search: WWW / 검색어를 입력하세요: WWW - tvN
When you initially read a drama will be about the battle between search engine companies… you would think this would be a total snoozefest. Centered around three powerful women working for two of the major search/news engines, this drama packs its punch with badass women getting shit done, realistic modern romances, and all the drama that comes working for powerful companies. It’s rare I clap so much being like “YESSSSS” over what is going on in a drama but the female leads of this drama, Im Soo-Jung, Lee Da-Hee, Jeon Hye-Jin I will gladly sign on to watch whatever else they are in after this. Battles over the law of privacy, conglomerate people controlling people’s lives and relationships with personal drama that feels more real than your generic “insert dramatic hill to climb” story lines. The soundtrack is also pretty addictive. Subtitled episodes can be found on Viki.
youtube
Best 19/20 Drama: Crash Landing On You / 사랑의 불시착 - tvN
Every year we get dramas that start in late November/December that carry over into the next year. So as my year straddling drama choice, I am picking the currently airing Crash Landing on You. Starring Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin, a beautiful conglomerate heiress gets caught in a natural disaster as she is paragliding and ends up crash landing in North Korea. Found by a North Korean officer, he brings her to his home to try and protect her and help her get back to her home. Chaos ensues and they need to pretend to be engaged, any many other excuses but as they each battle their own problems love grows. Currently subtitled episodes can be watched weekly on Netflix.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXMjTXL2Vks
Honorable Mentions:
He is Psychometric: compelling fantasy/crime story with a shining Idol/actor performance from tvN with subtitled episodes on Viki.
Kingdom (Season1): The first Netflix original K-Drama is a zombie/period drama with a stellar cast including Ju Ji-Hoon and Bae Doo-Na.
Melting Me Softly: For a light hearted romance drama from tvN about two people that are frozen in capsules and accidentally stuck for 20 years, how they get about in the modern world and handle the side effects and growing love.
Extraordinary You: Characters in a romantic comic start to become self aware of themselves and try to fight their predetermined story lines from the author. From MBC, subtitled episodes on Viki.

Current K-Drama Watchlist
I’m currently watching these shows. I don’t do reviews until I’ve seen the whole show but here are my feelings so far.
Tumblr media
Romance Is a Bonus Book
So far I’m loving this classic K-Drama rom com. It’s got cohabitation, a sweet beta male, and a super smart and well-written female lead (who’s 10 years older than the lead!). It’s not entirely creative and the chemistry is a little off, but I’ve been craving an easy-to-watch (and easy on the eyes) k-drama this season! The only thing is that I have major second lead syndrome you guys! Mr. Umbrella with his puppy is just...*hearteyes* Like, can’t they be together instead?
Tumblr media
My Strange Hero/ Bok Soo’s Back
My favorite drama this season so far! I was caught by surprise because the synopsis didn’t sound like something I’d like, and it was pitched as a melodrama which just isn’t accurate.Bok Soo’s Back is a charming and lovely romance with a lot of goofiness and humor, but has some very emotional moments as well. It takes place in a school and features student issues AND adult issues, so it’s not a high school romance in the traditional sense. It’s an underdog story where people are allowed to make large mistakes and be forgiven. There are so many great characters to love and root for, a ton of funny moments, really beautifully timed melodrama, and some of the best romance I’ve ever seen: the leads are total OTP material.
Tumblr media
The Crowned Clown
I’m always excited to see Yeo Jin Goo because he’s such a gift, but he really is killing this role! Playing two different characters that look the same, he perfectly captures a damaged and paranoid king, and a sweet and loyal commoner. I don’t watch very many saeguk dramas because I tend to get annoyed with the royal politics, but his acting is just so captivating (that eye contact tho!) that I’m putting up with all of the vying for the power and assassination attempts.
Tumblr media
Spring Turns To Spring
In order to enjoy this show, you have to be really into silly hijinks and slapstick, which I’ll admit isn’t my style. It’s pretty kooky and ridiculous and some of the characters are SUPER annoying, though it’s started to get better now that I’m three hours in. I will say Lee Yoo Ri is honestly so awesome and funny as an ambitious and super cocky reporter as well as when she becomes the passive and naive housewife. She is laugh out loud hilarious and I’m watching this for her. I love the idea that by swapping roles, the ladies will probably find a better path for themselves and the whole show is very women-centric! On the other hand, will I make it through all of the goofy switch-a-roos, chasing scenes and that really crappy cheating husband? Jury is out on this one.
Tumblr media
Wind-Bell
I think it’s pretty safe to say that if you aren’t watching this for the idols that are in it (B1A4's Jinyoung & AOA's Mina), you probably wouldn’t start watching. Unless of course you are extremely insterested in  Seoul landmarks and tourist locations:
“Wind-Bell” is a project selected through the “Seoul Story Drama Script Contest” held by the Seoul Metropolitan Government last year”
I’ve watched the first episode which is only 10 minutes long, and it does feel like I’m literally being sold an advertisement for locations and architectural landmarks to visit the next time I’m in Seoul LOL. I have so much to watch, I doubt I’ll finish this one.
Tumblr media
Encounter (finished last week)
I just finished this gorgeous noona romance featuring Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo. Park Bo Gum was the perfect manic pixie dream boy, and i loved these two as a pair. They were soft and sweet and perfect OTP material. The other characters also had a lot of depth and were interesting to watch - for instance, the ex-husband was pretty interesting. I will say that even though I can’t find anything to complain about, and the quality of the show was really high...for me there was something missing. I can’t put my finger on it though (I know, super helpful). Maybe it’s that they CUT OFF HIS GORGEOUS HAIR AFTER ONE EPISODE.
Tumblr media
Classic Re-Watch: Healer
Normally I choose a classic show I have not seen, to watch along side of currently airing shows but I’ve been working a ton. I cannot BELIEVE I’m openly admitting that I’m actually re-watching Healer. Again. Listen. If you know me, you know my bias. If you know me you know i’ll watch Healer any time and any place. And...I lucked out when my friend said she’d never seen it! Note: When episode 15 started and there is all of that cuteness (no spoilers if you haven’t seen it, but really, please see it!), I pretty much almost jumped out of my seat from the uwu and I think I might have scared my friend a bit (sorry girl! :D ).
