My TOP 10 couples of 2021 based on their chemistry.
It's almost the end of this year so it's time for a recap.
I chose 10 couples that I enjoyed in 2021, so let's get started:
1. Jackie & Leslie (Hightown s2) - Both are messy in their own way, but thet are perfect together. I didn't expect to like them so much. Chemistry is incredible. They could stand next to each other and not even look in each other's direction and the chemistry would be better than a lot of couples on TV. I hope the showrunner doesn't screw them up even more in the next season.
2. Gigi & Dani (The L Word: Generation Q s2) - Gen Q is boring as fuck. I had to fast forward many scenes to survive, but Gini scenes are the only thing I can watch over and over again. I blame Gigi for this :)
3. Vi & Caitlyn (Arcane: League of Legends s1) - I don't even like animated series, but I made an exception and I don't regret it. Not only is a fantastic show but Vi and Caitlyn are such a nice surprise. I can't wait for the next season.
4. Haniwa & Wren (See s2) - I really wasn't expecting a f/f couple in season two, and definitely not the main couple. Awesome surprise. On top of that, the writers gave them the most romantic story they could :)
5. Quinn & Isabela (Harlem s1) - Q&I are so adorable together :) Their chemistry is so strong that they didn't even have to kiss to get my attention. I hope for more of them in the next season.
6. Deena & Sam (Fear Street Trilogy) - Normally I wouldn't watch this, because I don't like horror movies, but this one wasn't that scary. Also, f/f as the main couple, that's pretty rare.
7. Sarah & Joline (Van Helsing s5) - I know they don't count as new couple, but I've been waiting for they reunion since 2018, so they should be here.
8. Marla & Fran (I Care a Lot) - None of them are good people, but this list is not about that. Chemistry between them is actually pretty good. But well... we're talking about Rosamund Pike after all, she has chemistry with all women :)
9. Taissa & Simone (Yellowjackets s1) - They may not be at the top of my list, but I'm getting more and more into them. Their kissing scene was really good.
10. Amy & Kirsten (Vigil s1) - I really wish they weren't separated practically the whole season. We only saw flashbacks from the time, when they were a couple.
Happy New Year!

THE L WORD: GEN Q SEASON 2 - Unpopular Opinion
Now I preface this by saying the original L Word was my jam growing up. Yes, the original had issues but it allowed me to see myself represented in a way that felt every day. Seeing queer women on mainstream tv just living their lives in the early 2000s made the closeted me feel confident that I could do the same in my own life.
So when The L Word Gen Q season 1 came out I was PUMPED. After 10 years AND NO OTHER SHOW replaced it, it was definitely needed back on our screens. This was my show that put queer women stories at the forefront. What I really loved about the OG L Word though (apart from the great love scenes) was how grounded I felt watching it. Seeing the friendships between them was what grounded the show for me. The comedy as well is top-notch. Love Alice. This core group of friends hanging out with each other and being there for each other was EVERYTHING to me.
Side note: ep 1x7 "Losing It" of the OG L Word was soo funny and is exactly what I mean when I get into what's missing from Gen Q for me. I mean the whole sequence of Tina being pregnant and oversharing every feeling she's having with her friends. The friends realizing Tina and Bette have become a boring couple during their pregnancy and that intervention scene. I mean COMEDY GOLD.
And of course, we have the OG Ships. Not to get too much into the OG version. This realization is about Gen Q Season 2.
What I'm realizing watching GEN Q Season 2 is that it is not grounding me the same way The OG version did. I just watched Gen Q 2x6 and this is the first time I skipped through so many scenes of The L Word. First of all, why aren't we seeing more of Rosie as Carrie? I get she's not a main player, I need more Rosie though. It's her charm for me.
Now I was getting into Dani and Sophie when the end of Gen Q season 1 just randomly had Sophie and Finley in this affair. I legit saw Sophie and Finley as Shane and Alice---FRIENDS. So I wasn't shipping them.
To be honest the only pairings that are doing something for me are:
Gigi and Dani
Shane and Tess
I see the slow build with these two ships and I like that.
Maybe I expected too much, but as I'm watching Gen Q season 2 I realized that something is missing. I either skip through scenes, like Alice and her writer Tom- spoiler alert: who is only here to remind the audience that Alice is bi. Anyways, and I also skip through Finley and Sophie scenes.
I just feel an overall difference watching Gen Q. I hope that spark can come back. For now, I just remain a casual watcher of The L Word Gen Q. Which is something I thought I wouldn't say.
So this is MY unpopular opinion. Based on some reactions on Twitter, it seems some people are actually loving some of these storylines? Well, the third time is the charm and I'm hoping for a solid Gen Q Season 3.

i DID hear this and supposedly it will be exec produced by ilene chaiken and jbeals? based on the quality of tlwgq i’m not terribly worried but i do hope that it’s a proper hbo-esque high drama and not like made-for-tv style drama you know what i mean?
