Mommy and Daddy's Little Panda Cub

CGs! Ming and Jin Lee and Regressor! Mei Lee 🍼

Plot: It's Mei's bedtime. Little scholars need their rest, after all.

It was a peaceful, yet cold winter night in Toronto. It was also raining. Raindrops made pitter-patter sounds on Mei's bedroom window. Ming had just finished giving her daughter a bubble bath and dressing her in a pair of soft, warm footie pajamas. She was now sitting in Mei's bed, cradling Mei in her lap as if she were a baby again and feeding her a warm bottle of angel milk that Jin had just prepared.

Mei had an eventful couple of days, filled with finals before winter break and getting her first period (for real this time), which happened on her final test of the semester. She powered through and aced her exams with flying colors. Now, she had regressed and was healing from her period, thanks to her parents' TLC (tender loving care).

"Are you feeling better, baby?" Ming asked softly.

Mei nodded and cooed behind her bottle. Ming smiled at this and stroked her daughter's red hair.

"Mommy wants you to know that she and your daddy are very proud of you. You're an amazing little cub, and we love you, no matter what or who you become."

Mei snuggled to Ming's shoulder as she drank her bottle. She rubbed her eyes and yawned, signaling that she was ready to go nini.

Jin walked into the bedroom with Mei's stuffed dog, Wilfred, and a pink, satin-trimmed chenille blanket. He had put them in the dryer to make them warm and toasty. He handed Mei the items, who cooed as her way of saying thanks.

Jin sat down next to Ming and kissed her cheek. Ming kissed Jin's cheek in return. She then kissed Mei's forehead as she finished the bottle.

Mei whimpered and whined after Ming removed the empty bottle from her mouth. Ming softly shushed and cooed as she replaced the bottle with a pacifier that was resting on Mei's bedside table. Mei calmed down as she suckled on the soother.

Ming rested Mei's head on the pillow and tucked her in. Mei snuggled Wilfred and her blankie in her arms as Jin turned off the lights and turned on her nightlight. He and Ming kissed Mei's forehead and whispered goodnight as they left the room.

Mei fell asleep, warm and safe from the cold winter's night.

And no. I will not shut up about how people should pay attention to the difference in what filmmakers are choosing to be realistic about from movie to movie, and what they’re choosing to present an idealized version of. Because otherwise, these two movies would be so similar in theme.

The Little Mermaid portrays: - A realistic reaction of a teenager when her parent is overprotective. She’s flawed and she’s focused more on her father’s inability to understand than her own actions. - An idealized crush on a boy, where attraction looks sweet, girlish, a little self-mocking, and is based on more than just his looks.

Turning Red portrays:

- An idealized reaction of a teenager when her parent is overprotective. She’s not focused on her own embarrassment or how crazy her mom acted, she’s the middle school martyr who scolds herself for her mom’s over-the-top response and shows very little conscious awareness of her mom’s faults.

- A realistic crush on a boy, where attraction just looks like lust, and lust is funny, and objectifying boys ain’t pretty, but hey, it sure gets a laugh.

At the end of these movies, one teenager gets to be understood by her parent without being completely blameless for all the destruction getting her way caused—and the parent fulfills his job to protect her AND provide for her happiness. And at the end of the other movie, the other teenager gets to understand her PARENT, is justified for the destruction she caused because really she should’ve been allowed to have her way all along—and the parent is only rewarded when she lays off and quits protecting her child.

Unbelievable.

When Mei is little, she becomes a bit hyper and loves to run around, which means she trips often, Ming always makes sure she has a bag with a first aid kit inside

They always make snacks for Mei Mei when she's little! Sometimes they even let her help

They all do a lot of colouring and drawing, when they're done, Ming puts the drawings up on the fridge >:3

Mei's dad is always getting her little red panda plushies that she keeps in the corner of her bed, taking one with her everytime they go out on an adventure

Sometimes when Mei regresses, she turns into her red panda form, Ming usually sets up a blanket fort and then brushes her until she falls asleep

When it comes to Mei panicking and crying, Jin is on the job! He whispers to her as he brushes her hair with his hand

The three of them often curl up in the living room and listen to music, or watch movies, Mei always chooses!

Ming dotes on Mei's every need, if Mei gets something on her face, Ming immediately cleans it up

Jin and Mei love to dance around and Jin often does silly dances to cheer her up
