"perhaps you'd like to cross-examine his parrot for a little comic relief" you know what I WILL
this is so funny to imagine happening in real life i can't believe this is happening
it did! well, kind of. in the case of glenna duram, who was accused of killing her husband--the family parrot, who was highly intelligent, was considered as a potential witness to the murder after he was heard repeating what sounded like a fatal argument between the two of them.
the parrot, bud, didn't actually end up needing to take the stand because there was enough evidence to convict glenna, but the prosecutor on that case outright said he was completely open to the idea.
what kills me about this. what ABSOLUTELY fucking kills me? see, ace attorney has an accidental timeline. they dated DL-6 as december 2001. and then they repeatedly say in game one that DL6 was 15 years ago. that makes game 1 take place in 2016. then, from that point on, you can figure out the rest of the AA timeline just using the passing of years, characters are often very specific!
so we know from all that that turnabout goodbyes takes place dec 25th-28th, 2016. but it was set in the future when it came out! AA came out like waaaay early 2000s.
the fucking duram case. is from 2015. not only did AA predict the most batshit element of this very real murder case, it predicted it almost down to the year.
the first article i found about the fucking parrot being considered to testify even is timestamped december 2016. the investigation and trial took place from 2015-2017.
anyways i think im crazy? i feel crazy sometimes.

Im not the warriors anon but the other day i saw a pinterest post talking about Miles being a warrior cats fan and warriors DID exist in 2001 so it’s completely possible and now i want to rant about it
In turnabout goodbyes it’s possible he could have thought “wow this is like when Fireheart exposed Tigerclaw as a traitor to thunderclan and he got exiled” when Phoenix exposes Manfred
And then he has a crisis about whether that makes him Sandstorm or Ravenpaw
Miles’ first time hearing about gay people was reading about Ravenpaw and Barley as a child
And then he faked his death because Ravenpaw also did that
oh no he got the warriors brand of autism 😨 /silly

I always wanted to see maya actually like. show negative emotions. because at the end of the first game, she's upset by Phoenix but by the second game the whole conflict with Phoenix treating her like a worse Walmart version of Mia is just gone or ignored so Phoenix can be sad about Edgeworth.
I would have loved to see maya confront the trauma of her family and actually get to think about her life instead of her family's when all they've done is neglect and abuse her. I love maya fics where she does get these chances but they are so fucking rare it's insane.
I don't mind her staying in Kurain because of her attachments to her family legacy but I wish she could have reclaimed it? she's so fucking young it depresses me so much. she's just a child. the games hate women so much, even if they're just kids still.
- lanamia anon (hi)
EXACTLY. i would like the master of khurain thing if this was explained as her reclaiming the legacy and her making something good out of it, but as far as i'm aware nothing of the sort is explored. it's not that a bad decision was made: it's that barely any decision was made at all for her character development.
i always see people talking about phoenix and maya as this amazing loving sibling duo and like, yeah, they Are that and they have a lot of really wholesome moments in aa2 and 3, but the way phoenix treats her in the first game is something i can't just ignore. i understand he is also going through grief and many more complicated things, but that still leaves maya feeling useless, she is basically suicidal in turnabout goodbyes.
i see her never really exploring her anger and negative feelings towards her family as an understandable part of her character, but i do wish we would see evidence of her repressing those feelings. without it, it just feels like overly simplified writing of her character.
overall, i just mourn the potential.

Different DL-6 victim anon here yet again - obsessed with the Yogi AU making Manfred question his morals as he repeatedly tries to prevent Miles from confessing. Like, objectively he knows Miles is innocent, that he has no business being punished for a crime he didn't commit, but he can't very well say that to him, can he. So he tells him "it was an accident, you're not to blame" instead, but it's implied in Turnabout Goodbyes that the law in Japanifornia would rule him as guilty anyway? So is Manfred truly saying "the law is unjust"? (I mean I know he's really saying "I know who the criminal is and it's not you" but again he can't SAY that so he has to pretend he's saying something else and stand by it.) Besides, if Miles is innocent and he confesses either way, does he deserve to be found guilty, as per Manfred's "every defendant is guilty, ever" philosophy? Is part of his desperation to keep Miles from confessing to avoid that cognitive dissonance? There's just so much to unpack there and it is SO fascinating
And the Miles AU breaks my heart. The betrayal once the truth would be revealed omg. Probably as severe as the one Miles must have felt in Turnabout Goodbyes, although in a totally different way. On one hand, Manfred didn't frame Gregory for murder, and although he's here to pick up the pieces as Gregory is grieving, he's not Gregory's caretaker, he wasn't as formative a part of Gregory's life as he was for Miles. On the other hand, this is a fellow father that took Gregory's son from him. There are no amends that can make that right, and I think Manfred is too proud to try anyway, even through his guilt. I wonder if Gregory thinks Manfred did it on purpose? And whether Manfred would correct him. I'm not sure what would hurt less, "no I won't deny I took your son's life purposely just to make you miserable, no I will not explain either" or "I actually meant to kill you and not him, it was your son who was supposed to survive." I'm sure Gregory wishes the latter had happened anyway, but hearing that that was what Manfred meant to happen... it would hit different.
It actually makes me wonder about the canon events again. I wonder if Miles went to talk to Manfred after the trial? I wonder if he got an explanation for Manfred's behavior, of if Manfred just refused to talk to him. (I actually also wonder how Manfred went from "I'm gonna take this kid in and teach him everything I know" to "I'll bury you with my bare hands" but tbh I could write an entire essay rambling about that. It's such a mystery to me!) Is Miles under the impression Manfred planned the whole thing fifteen years earlier? Does Manfred correct him? Does he not bother? Hhhhhh *shakes them*
Ooohhh, best of luck on your journey! I hope it brings you the healing you're seeking. I'm glad you're having fun but please take care of yourself and don't pass out while hiking! All the best!
One of the things I love about Manfred is that he’s filled with contradiction and cognitive dissonance.   I’d love to read an essay about his potential reasons from going from “ loving yet stern father inwardly struggling with guilt and generally how to express himself ”  to “ I will give my all and risk everything to frame this kid I raised”.   In the Yogi AU, Manfred probably wouldn’t be thinking that deeply about morality ( I don’t think he’s that self aware) but if he did, he’d definitely try to twist it. ‘ I’m not wrong about anything, this is just a special circumstance.”  There’s definitely a part of Manfred whose desperation to stop Miles comes from him not wanting to have to examine himself further. Of course, if Manfred attempts anything like Turnabout Goodbyes he could use all this .  I’m imagining Phoenix trying to defend Miles when Miles himself is insisting he did it, certainly with his own father figure finally going against his own words, Manfred finally  “relenting” to the truth.  Very tasty. In the Miles AU, I think Manfred would probably admit his initial plan in the retrial, similar to his outburst in canon as well as the reason for wanting to murder Gregory. Whether he’d admit the extent of the guilt he feels for killing Miles is another story. Something I’ve always found interesting after Manfred’s outburst in the trial, he’s surprisingly calm. He doesn’t run or scream or cry or verbally assault people. He has an almost resigned air to him, like a prisoner being taken to their execution.  I imagine things would be left pretty ambiguous, similar to canon.  Gregory would probably never learn Manfred’s motivation for becoming practically a caretaker to him . There’d definitely be a lot of self blame from Gregory, if only I hadn’t been so picky about Manfred’s evidence, if only I hadn’t believed so blindly.  Just expecting himself to have known better.  Oh, and Phoenix as well! He got the truth, but at what cost?                                          I really wish we had gotten more detail on the whole custody and imprisonment process , along with more information about the prison system in general. Things in Japanfornia are really complicated and its not made very clear what law wise goes, not what general character opinion is beyond laws ( like how its generally agreed killing abusers is self defense though the law may disagree). But honestly I don’t think the series could bear to cover such complex topics. A scene with Manfred and Miles talking about their past  would probably be considered too dour for most players ( not for me I want to squish them like bugs).  I do imagine, at least at the start,  Miles goes to visit Manfred in prison. How could he not, despite everything Manfred was like another father to him.  While Manfred is a tricky character, personally I think he’d have a “ what’s done is done” attitude,  that even with pride aside he’d believe there’s no point in revealing his real feelings as it wouldn’t change anything. All Manfred has left is the secrets he holds onto like armor.                                        Thanks for the well wishes, it’s been a long journey but I did my best and made it. Lots of love sob.

hi, it's sister anon back after like a month. I got a friend of mine to watch the anime with me bc she wants to get into ace attorney, and we spent the entire time making fun of the animation. and in doing so I discovered a possible reason for why my sister had a thing for edgeworth: in the first few episodes of s1 he gets ALL of the animation budget. like the art style is kinda terrible overral but even in scenes where everyone in the courtroom has terrible proportions and no faces, edgeworth usually looks fine. this happens less after turnabout goodbyes but still. the animation team really liked him.
this ask just made me briefly mentally jump into a timeline where edgeworth got the studio bones reigen treatment and i got scared thinking about that

prev anon here, apparently the numbering system views differently on your blog theme. anyway salt asks 13 19 and 22
13) Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
bobby fulbright is my best friend forever i love him so much if you disagree im sorry for your taste. see i know the default reaction is to hate him for betraying us or whatever but like i cant even be mad at him because im just eternally angry at the writers. because the plot twist SUCKS and makes NO SENSE and has NOT A BIT OF BUILDUP and its not like. sigh. whatever. we’ve talked about this
19) What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
well this ones easy. the entire fanon perception of the von karma-edgeworth family soap opera is like quite possibly my biggest pet peeve simply because its so horrendously prevalent. because naturally we need edgeworth 1) to be the most abused child ever in the history of existence so that phoenix can be his glorified babysitter as such is the nature of this particular brand of shlock “angst” or perhaps even you might call it “whump” and 2) to have absolutely no blame in any of the things he did as a prosecutor up until turnabout goodbyes because, well, yeah maybe he sent a whole bunch of people to prison or even to their deaths unjustly by obscuring important testimony and leading witnesses and so on and so forth, but, like, that was totally all manfred’s fault! yes miles edgeworth is a grown adult who has been making his own decisions for a good while now, but, like, if you think about it hes not actually responsible for anything he did. because manfred! and like, after turnabout goodbyes, edgeworth just totttalllyyy hates manfred and has no complicated feelings on this at all and he- huh? what about franziska? oh right i forgot about her. um well she also probably hates manfred with 0 complicating feelings i guess. i didnt really think about it but since shes basically just a glorified extension of edgeworth except a GirlBoss they probably have the same opinions. what? did i look at edgeworth’s office and see the suit manfred gave him plastered up on the wall? uhhh no. wonder why thats there. did i play investigations? ummmmmm uhhhh well there was that one line from manfred where he called miles worthless so like clearly this is evidence he personally physically beats his kids on the regular! no im not going to look at any of the rest of his behavior throughout the case and think about how this might reflect on his relationship with miles- oh right and franziska too. i forgot about her again. LOLZ ! did i play investigations 2 with my eyes open? nope 👍
ok sorry for the extended sequence of passive aggressive sarcastic strawmanning. but anyways by taking out all of the (CANONICALLY PRESENT!!!!) nuance to this situation you make everybody involved infinitely less interesting and altogether have a 1) blatantly uncanon and 2) incredibly bland story. naturally this is exactly what kind of thing the fanon enjoyers like but im still going to be a hater about it. alright whats next Ummmm
22) Popular character you hate?
hates a strong word i think. the only character i really hate is shelly because hes embarrassing and sahwit because out of EVERYBODY we couldve seen again in investigations 2. we got SAWHIT. AND WE COULDVE GOTTEN LANA ?????? WHOS ACTUALLY THEMATICALLY RELEVANT TO HALF THE STUFF GOING ON HERE????? WE COULDVE DONE SOMETHING WITH THAT ??????? OR GOD FORBID HAVE A BACKGROUND CAMEO OF SOME OF OUR PAST CONVICTS A LA EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID WITH THE DELITES????????? BUT NO ! NO ! WE GOT FRANK SAWHIT!!!!!!!!! I HATE THIS MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!! ok anyways ummmmmmmm i dunno im very fond of the whole aa cast! except for them

Hrrg, okay hi I was the anon who sort of indirectly prompted the 4-1 comic by asking about the whole fire power stigma thing and Apollo and Phoenix and, whatever it's been 4 months, good chance you don't even remember.
But this was, so very much worth the wait. It's so good and it hurts and I want to hug him and it looks so COOL and
Anyways I'm just over here having feelings, you're really good at art and that comic is very good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
thank you!!!! again really sorry it took so long o(-< I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! I kinda wish I had included something to refer to apollo being passed from home to home but I can probably cover that with a comic with dhurke
(general update on ??? idk art plans I guess)
@ everyone who's still waiting on an answer, I wish I was faster at art/more confident in scribbling out stuff h (there are asks in my drafts, and sometimes I wait until I have similar asks to group them up, and then my hand gets hurt, and fksghjlfd)
I'm busy this week and I would like to start getting through the rest of my aa character list before the year ends (I'm behind, at 16 out of 31) but I'm gonna try to be less. perfectionist about doodles so I can actually empty out my inbox x')
(for now I've decided the next big tp au post is going to be turnabout goodbyes and I estimate it to be 4-5 pages?)

lost my mind a bit earlier to that anon when i thought about the "of course" line but i think the scene leading UP to that last makes me lose my mind even more:
Mia: You did it, Nick!
Phoenix: Thanks, Mia! It's been a long time, hasn't it?
Mia: ...Yeah. It's because Maya doesn't call on me much these days.
Phoenix: Oh?
Mia: I'm just joking, Phoenix. Don't take everything so seriously. But on the other hand, Maya... She seems kind of lost these days.
Phoenix: You mean about becoming the Master of the Kurain Channeling School?
Mia: Becoming the Master... means saying goodbye to our mother.
Phoenix: You mean Misty Fey...?
Mia: ...Watch over her, will you Phoenix?
Phoenix: Of course.
first of all. MIA CALLING PHOENIX "NICK." second of all. mia confiding in phoenix about maya's emotional state because after everything she KNOWS he'll look out for her. she even smiles when she asks phoenix to watch over her because she knows he'll say yes. and this takes place in the stolen turnabout! and then in recipe for turnabout:
Phoenix: So? How's your spirit medium training going?
Maya: Well... I stand under the rushing waters of the shower head every day.
Phoenix: ...That's called "taking a shower". What happened to the rushing waters of a waterfall?
Maya: Well, I'm kind of taking a break... I'm having a bit of trouble right now, you know?
Phoenix: (Last year's incident must still be on her mind... I haven't seen Maya train at all since that time. I think Mia said it's because Maya's at a loss these days...)
i LOVE the little detail with phoenix saying he hasn't seen her train at all since last year's incident. it implies that maya's been staying with him the majority of the time and not in kurain village (which honestly makes sense given the entirety of aa2 but still. a year? food for thought of epic proportions). clearly she would've had to go up there to get things ready for the exhibit in the stolen turnabout and there was definitely other times but like!!!! the fact that she's been staying with phoenix for so long that he's outright noticed that she hasn't been training at all. god the 2-2 and 2-4 really did get to her didn't they. to both of them

MHH GLAD YOU THINK SO ANON!!
*SPOILERS FOR TURNABOUT GOODBYES UNDER THE CUT*
Once Phoenix is deeply attached to it he's also obsessively fixated to it, like how something so simple like Miles defending Phoenix moved him so much that he spend all his youth reaching out to him and study to being a lawyer just because Miles just defend him years ago. So like imagine him being interested in darling, of why and what made you attract his best friend to such insanity, but little did he know that he will reach that same insanity later on just because of darling

it's very much a sort of. 'when you lose the paper check the meme' if you were playing turnabout goodbyes sort of spoiler? like that wouldn't tell you that you lose the paper because von karma just mugged + tazed you, and when you get the paper it's pretty obvious you're not making it to court with the paper so knowing that ahead of time isn't that big a deal, but you definitely are not going to miss that you just lost your paper. like that kind of spoiler. odds are Good i will still be up when you get that far since y'all really like posting at 10-11pm with this, but i do Not want to miss hitting you with this meme.
although i personally am not worried about how long it takes you because aai2 is a Long Ass Game. one of the cases - will not tell you which one - is the longest case in all of AA. so yes it could be two days from now. but realistically more like a week or two of playing every night because aai2 is so fuckoff long xD -aai2 anon
GOTCHA yeah that should be fine to send thru then! YEA u must be close to our timezone xD we usually wrap up around 11pm-12am tho the latest we ever played I think was finishinggggg JFA or TAT I can't remember I think it was TAT and it was like frickin 3am lmfao but oh my LORD and I thought some of these other cases were long lmfao GOOD TO KNOW and brace ourselves xD
that being said. i will go and reread the transcript for turnabout target because i NEED to see what y'all're seeing. i must know. de killer/rooke new rarepair i have to see this -aai2 anon
PLS DO i'm so sad bc i am much clumsier and lazier to try and figure out screenshotting on my PC vs when we played on the iPad and it was so much easier to screenshot otherwise I would be pulling the receipts jjsdkfjldskfj

i'm really glad youre liking it!! i wish i could say the same for me :( im on bridge to the turnabout right now and i really havent enjoyed it too much. i do appreciate the extra content it has though. do you have any favorite episodes or bits
-aa anime anon
hmmm the bloopers are amazing. me and theo quote them whenever we get to them (but we're watching the subbed version, soooo)
in terms of like. actual quality AGAIN THE SEASON 1 OPS ARE INCREDIBLE AND THE BEST THING TO COME OUT OF THE ANIME LIKE. THEYRE SO GOOD!!! i love the flashback episodes too. also the keychains miles and nick have?? it's giving the same energy as the chess piece they added in the p5 anime (which royal pretty much stole w akechis glove) and i love that. also that they included larry more? not a fan of lotta erasure but ill take larry appreciation any day
in terms of funny bits, uh. maya telling franziska that being a dick wont bring her dad back made me laugh WAY HARDER THAN I THINK IT WAS MEANT TO. and the airbending objections are really fun and cool and good and i could talk about how cool and good they are but that would be a waste of time because we all know theyre really good so. also the larry impersonating miles bit in turnabout goodbyes was iconic. actually i love the additions to turnabout goodbyes???? like its not the superior version but i think its really fun that they took some liberties for the anime version. its what the movie TRIED to do and failed miserably on (dont get me started on the movie)
anyways i GET why you wouldnt like it like. its a bit trash honestly. i just like some perfectly good garbage what can i say. i genuinely enjoyed almost every second of dual destinies and the persona 5 anime is really funny to me i love terrible terrible content.

thank you for your answer to my ask! I definitely noticed those unrealistic expectations of their relationship in fics before but honestly I’m an opera fan it didn’t clock more than “romanticisation and people having fun.” You’re very right though. For me I will say the fact it’s unrealistic is part of the appeal. Also the fact that it goes both ways. Phoenix saves an unwilling Edgeworth during Turnabout Goodbyes and Edgeworth charters a jet when he thinks Phoenix died from falling off a bridge. They’re both disasters and I love them. (For the record I may have an avoidant attachment style but I’m not very sure. Not to the point of it being a problem in my life anyway. I’m just aromantic people need to chill /lh) (it’s nearing 2am where I am too I hope you have a good night)
you're extremely correct! when i say i'm a narumitsu enjoyer i don't mean that i view them as some perfect couple, but i do think post-aa4 wrightworth would just go "yeah... honestly he's my only option by now. we are both the right flavor of fucked up but the flavor is very specific so who else but him" /j
and i'm glad the avoidant attachment style isn't affecting you much! makes sense for you btw, if you recognize the wrightworth nuance, you are also probably self-aware enough to regulate your behaviors.
you were a pleasure to talk to, from one aromantic to another! have a good whatever-time-of-day-it-is, anon.

One of the things I hate most about AA5&6 is how they handled Klavier. Dude went through hell in AJ, never really got to have an actual reaction to it all outside composed short goodbyes in court, then he's just like a robot in 5 and isn't even in 6 outside a mini DLC case.
But yeah jumping off that last anon, I wanted AA7 too but thinking more about it I'm not sure how the writing would be. I also really wanted a DGS3 or an investigations game spinoff following Kazuma in London but then I thought of AA5&6 and now I don't know if I want DGS ever continued either (not that it would've ever been anyway 😞)
poor klavier.... honestly i feel like what they did to klavier is almost kinder than what they did to apollo. if they had given klavier a bunch of lame backstories that didnt make any sense and sucked and then everyone now had to try and reckon with the implications of that in a way the source material isnt built for. like. i throw the baby out with the bathwater in terms of aa5 and 6 i genuinely dont take any of the events there into conisderation as part of my analysis of these characters. and so klavier has been left untainted in a way most havent
sure he was super ooc and weird in turnabout academy but at least they didnt try and give him a huge amount of lore beyond 'went to themis'
dgs spinoff i think would be really fun if takumi was still working on it
