GRIM: A Retro FPS-Styled TTRPG, inspired by Quake, has released on itch.io and DriveThruRPG!
ITCH.IO
DRIVETHRURPG
Tumblr media
In a time far beyond Earth’s exodus, explorers have unearthed relics and ancient architecture that are said to be older than the cosmos itself, shattering all theories of the creation of the universe and its age. You and your allies, assigned by the Martyrs of Free Olympia or the Elysian Coalition, are tasked to investigate ruins on the planet Gamma Rho Iota Mu, simply referred to as GRIM, to find any traces of life that are rumored to lay beneath the only structure on the planet: a towering obelisk.
Countless explorers sent to GRIM have delved into these ruins, but none have returned. Many denizens of Free Olympia and beyond have feared that their planet will be next to succumb to GRIM's grasp, and some have fallen to their knees to worship this fated harbinger of doom.  All seemed hopeless and lost...
Tumblr media
Inspired by prolific FPS games like the Quake series, GRIM's mechanics are quick, brutal, and easy to understand without sacrificing its immense depth.Using either the flip of a coin or a six-sided die (d6), use Combat Skills to speed around combat maps and frag enemies, or use Roleplaying Skills either in or out of combat to navigate the dark and oppressive world beyond the Whispering Gate.
This game is meant to be played with a Watcher (GM / DM), and 1-6 other players.
Tumblr media
If this game reaches certain goals within 30 days, more content will be added to both the handbook and beyond!
$300: This game is fully funded! Thank you so much!
$600: 5 new Pre-Made Battlemaps for combat encounters will be added to the handbook!
$800: GRIM, The Palace of Eyes,  a setting expansion for GRIM, will be released! Explore a realm tucked between dimensions, and fight eldritch horrors while navigating expansive castles and dungeons. Will include more unique enemies, weapons, powerups, and settings!
$1,500: A printed run of GRIM will be made and released!
$3,000: Beyond the main theme already released, an entire soundtrack for GRIM will be created! Enjoy intense combat music and horrifying ambient tracks that will immerse you even further into the world of GRIM!
$3,000+: ??? (more goals will be released! I'll immediately jump for joy, however.)

Red Rook Revolt - an Indie RPG about comaderie and shooting Imperialists. Free community copies available!
Tumblr media
Do you like TTRPGs? Do you like stories where you man the barricades and shoot fascists? Then Red Rook Revolt is the game for you!
Red Rook Revolt is an unabashedly leftist TTRPG about fighting a revolution against oppressive imperialist forces, about support and love from your friends pulling you through impossible odds, and about balancing the corrupting power of your demonic weapons with the need to defeat your enemies and win liberty for your people.
The setting and the system are both custom-built to focus on the struggle against fascist empires and emphasize the importance of camaraderie and community. In Red Rook Revolt, violence is a dangerous force, but not one that makes you 'as bad as the fascists' or dooms the revolution to failure. There is a brighter day on the horizon, as long as you hold strong with your comrades, fight the invaders fiercely, and man the barricades!
The fighting in RRR is fast, fierce, and lethal. Melee attacks are powerful but dangerous, requiring no attack rolls but inviting counterattacks, and empower your ranged attacks with Dark Power. It's inspired originally by Hyperlight Drifter, and resolves quickly even as you cleave and shoot your way though imperialists come to take your community away in chains.
The setting is the Imperium Alarum, a setting where all acts of community are magic, and goetic demons are bound to swords, revolvers, and shotguns. In the empire, the communities are the noble "great houses" and the legions, and the magic is sewn into their uniforms and rebounds in their songs as they march off to plunder and to pillage. But in the Red Rook Commune, the hero's community, they remember also the magic in sharing stews, in telling stories on cold nights, and in the songs the workers sing in the factory.
If any of this sounds interesting, you can find Red Rook Revolt HERE. Don't worry if your budget is tight - there are 15 free community copies available, and I'll refill them when they're all claimed.

Since it's well known that Hasbro/WOTC doesn't read survey results, we should all ask them to do something silly in the new OGL survey. Something like:
"To regain my trust - and to prove that you care about my opinion - please make a new post on the official WOTC website (NOT DDB) that only says the word "shnuffle-fluff". Thank you.

Newsletter Ring
In this weird times it seems a bit that the TTRPG community might scatter with the (possible) implosion of Twitter. A lot of new TTRPG newsletters have blossomed has a reaction. If you run a newsletter too and want to help promote other TTRPG creators the Newsletter Ring initiative might interest you. I wrote a short doc about it with the help of Sam Leigh @goblinmixtape and @emielboven put together a kickass logo
Doc is here (as well as hi-res versions of the logo) https://docs.google.com/document/d/16EM8YQpDJVQ8_u9l_XfHYXZo1XPe1SvIiTEtJ9vLnbc/edit#heading=h.v73nbyh5q2w9

New Prices on my Stores!!!
Hey y'all!
With the announcement of limited community copies, I have altered some prices for games, lowering many of them!
Here are some of the AWESOME games I'm offering for just $9.99!
MOURN: A Retro FPS Styled TTRPG
Tumblr media
Darkness, death, and despair. Three things this world has known for far too long.
On the moon of Delta 4, far beyond the soiled Earth humanity left behind hundreds of years ago, there was an age of unbridled peace for generations. Wars were viewed as unnecessary, famine became a dark tale told by fathers to troublesome children, and the many plagues that haunted humans since their birth had all but become a distant memory.
This peace was deep and cherished, giving humanity a golden age unknown on their previous home planet.
That was, until the Qyu appeared.
The Qyu, a warrior people from a planet farther than one can fathom, that contains thousands of species of conquered species, set fire to Delta 4, reducing many cities that once shone with bright towers now to piles of ash and cinders. The people-led government, the communal systems, and the vibrant cultures of the once great moon fell under the iron fist of tyranny and dictatorship. Kindness turned to capital, freedom turned to fear, and knowledge turned to nepotism.
Now, only some factions of humanity remains on Delta 4, barely clinging to the formerly illustrious society they once cherished. All seemed lost, for surely no one could stand up to the might of the Qyu.
That was, until you arrived.
GAMEPLAY
MOURN is a fast, lethal, and easy-to-learn game just as the games this game is inspired from (DOOM, DUSK, Blood, Amid Evil). Rip and tear through hordes of enemies with your allies using only coin flips to decide your fates.
This game includes…
-DEVASTATING weaponry that adds a layer of strategy to every encounter
-INNOVATIVE use of mathematics in its multiples-of-5 system and coin flip skill checks
-IMMERSIVE lore that can make your world as interesting as possible
-HUNDREDS of ways you can customize your character through a simple, yet masterful, character creation process
This game will surely satisfy anyone looking to crave the itch of playing a retro FPS styled game in a tabletop format.
Neon Nights 1st Edition
Tumblr media
In Jeriko City, everybody wants to be somebody. Who do you wanna be?
Neon Nights is a cyberpunk/dystopian tabletop RPG set on Earth after a nuclear war devastated the entire planet. After hundreds of years of thousands of people roaming the desolate, irradiated Great Wastes, megacities emerged from the dust of deserts. Where there was once crumbling roads and dancing dust devils now stand skyscrapers towering over hundreds of thousands of roaming pedestrians walking the streets of Jeriko City, located on the East Coast of the once powerful United States of America.
Neon Nights contains an astounding amount of content, including:
*Dozens and dozens of unique, build-friendly Perks
*Dozens of occupations that make your character feel fleshed out and original
*Dozens of skills attached to each occupation that feels personal and useful to your character
*A plethora of weapons and supplies that make your loadout feel personal without too many things to keep track of
Neon Nights also has near infinite build freedom, making each of your playthroughs feel unique and interesting. No more classes and no more level-specific spells or skills!
*Want to specialize in long-range combat using sniper rifles? Go for it.
*What about using deception to trick and lie your way to victory? It’s here!
*What about a steroid-fueled maniac who craves nothing more than gore on their baseball bat? This game is perfect for you.
Freedom is paramount in this RPG, and the moment that you begin playing will be all you need to fall in love with this completely new and original system designed by Ethan H. Reynolds.
So, will you follow the law, and use the state to pave your way to power? Or will you rebel, and watch banners fly because of your courage? It's up to you to decide.
Tales from the Aerosphere
Tumblr media
Tales from the Aerosphere is an original steampunk TTRPG that is powered by the Neon Nights system, a system that prioritizes seemingly limitless character creation freedom.
In this game you will find…
-HUNDREDS of interesting, unique, and fun Perks
-DOZENS of weapons, CogWare augmentations for your body, equipment upgrades, and items to add to your beginning character
-OVER 20 unique and dynamic NPC sheets that are simplistic and accessible to use at any table.
From medics, to assassins, to mechanics, to a literal barbarian, there are THOUSANDS of character combinations you can play  in Tales from the Aerosphere.
The game also includes free updates whenever a new patch is released that adds content or fixes errors.
Wrath of the Undersea
Tumblr media
"The Great Ones promised retribution for the folly of Man. Their empire spreads across the once great kingdoms that now reside below the ocean's depths. Only then did we, chosen of great Dagon and Mother Hydra, climb ashore to heretical ground to lay our foundation once more. We gave the usurpers the children of the sea to feast upon, and ancient shells that whisper hints of prophecy in exchange of resettlement.
This was the way it was...until betrayal plagued our kind."
Wrath of the Undersea is a 17 page game where you play as Lovecraftian monsters seeking revenge on the people who kill your kin and have stolen your land. Use powerful Incantations to cast spells, pray to the Great Ones for help, or use fang and spear to reclaim the shore for yourselves once more.
Disk Masters
Tumblr media
In Disk Masters, a party of 2-4 players and a Game Master create the Summons (monsters) of their dreams. Using these Summons, players can explore the Gatcha region created by their GM and become the Disk Masters of the land by either battling their way to victory or saving the Gatcha region from a terrible threat!
In this handbook, you will find…
-DETAILED graphic artwork of Sample Summons you can plug and play easily with!
-STRATEGIC monster-led combat that will test the skills of each player!

Ttrpg is wild because it can go from the most fucking terrifying experience -such as finding disemboweled corpses with their eyes and teeth ripped out in an old cellar- to murdering a werewolf with a silver fork by crawling under and stabbing his balls until they pop and shower you in ball-blood

I feel like we really do not talk enough about lack of longevity in TTRPG publishing. Like, as someone who reviews—and therefor researches—tabletop role-playing games, it is a little disconcerting just how many publishers just do not exist anymore, or only exist as a name under which to continue selling their back catalog.
Even TSR went under, despite owning the only TTRPG with mainstream name recognition. Remember White Wolf, the biggest name in 90s TTRPGs? Now just a name owned by a video game publisher. And those are just the big boys. Companies like Eden Studios, Guardians of Order, and Margaret Weiss Productions, while not as popular, were still very notable at one time, and just slowly faded away.
Like yeah, it kinda makes sense that there are only a few 80s publishers left—unfortunately, Palladium seems to be one of them—but the number of publishers who hit their stride in the 2000s and are just gone is a little sad.
