Rococo Boudoir - Part I

The dressing table was an important piece of furniture in the life of a fine rococo lady. Now you can recreate a mid 18th century boudoir in your game!

This set includes 20 new Objects:

The 6 pieces of Louis XV furniture are accompanied by decorative items in the style of 18th century Sevres porcelain. I also remade the Louis XV Candlestick I made a while ago, because it was missing LOD's. Please replace the old files by the new ones.

Queen Marie Leczinska's Toilette in Versailles

The Queen had the habit of waking up early, after leaving bed she used to take a simple dress and attend an early morning mass, she would then return in her apartments alone and play music or read. At half past twelve an entire crowd would enter into her apartments, it was time for her public toilette! A table with a mirror would be brought and her silver gilded service would be placed on it. The toilette ceremony had NOTHING to do with what we associate modern day toilets, it was in fact the act of being washed up(the hands and face mostly) and then getting ready for the day. Lady's in waiting would wash the Queen's hands and face, apply her makeup, do her hair and put on her dress by order of seniority.All that in front of an assembly of women from the court. During the process the Queen would say a few words and a unique compliments to each lady in waiting. She would then go a second time to a mass-a royal one this time- accompanied by her household, but,unlike the first mass of the day, she would appear in full court attire sitting at the royal Balcony next to her husband the King.

The original silver gilded toilet Service of Queen Marie Leczinska has disappeared therefore when recreating it I decided to get my inspiration from certain containers that were part of a silver gilded coffee set that did belong to her, of course in did alter them to better fit with their toilet service purpose.

This actually wasn't what I was planning to post today, but I remembered having done it awhile back and thought that with the horsemania currently going on, it was a better fit.

The painting is "Whistlejacket" by George Stubbs, a British painter of the late 18th century. The National Gallery (London) claims this is "one of the most important British paintings of the eighteenth century," "probably the most well-known portrait of a horse," and "widely acknowledged to be George Stubbs' masterpiece." The Arabian chestnut stallion won a famous victory at the races in York in 1759, but by 1762 had retired from racing. His owner, the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham, commissioned Stubbs to paint a commemorative life-size portrait of his prize horse.

George Stubbs is actually very well known for painting horses, and supposedly doing so accurately. One hopes his paintings would be accurate, as he spent 18 months in a rural part of England dissecting horses to learn their anatomy. He even published the results of these studies of horse anatomy. Despite that pedigree, the actual positioning of his horses can be a less than realistic.

The Barrett’s

A household for @ivyandink’s wonderful DuBois save! ♥

Alfred, Amelia and Josefine are the only three surviving children of the Barrett’s. Their mother died in childbirth when giving birth to a stillborn baby brother. The father raised them with some assistance of a nanny. The father recently passed away after a drowning accident, leaving his only son Alfred as the new patriarch of the family.

Alfred

Alfred, the oldest child and only son. The news of the colonies gave him new hope to escape his strict family’s believes of arranged marriages. He therefore decides to take his little sister Josefine with him to the new world, hoping to let them both start their lives anew.

Alfred is known to be a friendly, well mannered young man, with a good sense of humour. His vision for the new world is hoping to find happiness and freedom, and get to marry a suitable woman.

Amelia

As the oldest daughter, it was her duty to marry a good man and have a healthy family. However, the young woman did hardly know her late husband Colonel George J. Hampton.

Amelia did as her father wished and married George. However, it deemed harder to conceive than expected, and only one year into their marriage, George was fed up with her “unwillingness”.

However, war broke out, and George never returned home, leaving Amelia scared and devastated that her reputation as a failed wife will affect her life. Therefore, upon hearing her older brother Alfred plan to leave for the colonies with their younger sister, Josefine, she begged to go with them.

Amelia wishes nothing but fulfil her duty as a woman and marry a man and bear his children, yet the though also scares her.

Josefine

Being a girl of marriageable age, Josefine knew it would only be a matter of time before her father would find her a matching husband. She admired Amelia’s bravery and wish to be so fortunate and marry a man like her sister.

Before her time came, her father had already passed and knowing her brother took the place as head of their family, she expected Alfred to marry her off soon. It came as a surprise when he was going to bring her to the colonies along with him.

Both excited and nervous, she departs the only thing she ever knew, SimTania to begin her new life in the colonies.
