2: What scene did you first put down? 

This is extremely surprising, since there is typically absolutely NO coherent chronology when I write, but the first scene I put down was the prologue. I don’t even always like prologues, because it sometimes feels like cheating the way a plot is allowed to unfold, but as soon as I decided to actually try writing a fic where Cato got a slap in the face and a second chance I knew I needed to figure out how that could possibly happen. I played with a few ideas, but ultimately I decided that Snow’s granddaughter unknowingly (or not??? She’s a smart kid) gave him the push he needed to calm down a tiny bit, which was the foundation I needed to make IMKM happen. 

However, the rest has NOT happened in an orderly manner, and there are no fewer than twenty scenes/chapters/moments I’ve written that are quite far ahead in the plot. Writing sequentially? Mmm don’t know her.

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

I’m glad you specified so far, because my absolute favourite hasn’t happened yet (I mean honestly practically everything that comes out of Adrian’s mouth is my favourite line of dialogue) but in a quick perusal of the fic so far (and by that I mean re-reading all the training sessions) I’d have to say my fav is the conversation before the private sessions: 

"Besides, everyone knows you're the Katniss of this relationship," she continues. "And I'm Peeta; the one with fewer arena-applicable skills. Even more importantly, I'm the funny, likeable one." She pauses. "The master of interviews."

"Are you done?"

"The dropper of truth-bombs. The baked goods enthusiast."

"Fucking hell," I lean my head back against the wall. "Is it my turn yet?"

(the whole Cato POV chapter is my fav, tbh. There’s a lot of dialogue I’m proud of there, both between Cato and Caer and Cato and his dear old dad)

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

WELL I’m so glad you asked: I have spent an embarrassing amount of time on carefully-curated playlists for Caerwyn and Cato, and I’m currently working on one for the fic itself (but it’s a real bitch). I listen to them both a bunch, and they really help me get in the headspace for writing. Especially for the Cato POV chapter his playlist was so helpful, but fair warning: as much as a playlist can be spoiler-y, both of these playlists are.

I think the thing i dislike about Floch/Flocke is that he calls his own people Demons. It's like he agrees with Marley's point of view. His borderline maniacal speech about Erwin and how he needed to experience more hell before he died also made me very uneasy.

Well, he really only called Erwin a demon, and he called him that because he felt Erwin had to have the soul of a demon (probably not literally) to be able to make the call to send a hundred+ men, including himself, to their deaths. That was the kind of gumption he felt the Survey Corps needed, and that he lived to ensure that Erwin would be chosen to live so that he could continue in the role of Commander of the Survey Corps.

I excused it because it’s something he says when he’s right in the middle of a huge personal crisis (“Everyone else died horribly and I’ve barely got a scratch on me. There has to be a reason for this, I can’t accept that it might just be chance.”), and later, just before the ceremony, his view seems much more balanced and reasonable. “Erwin should have been chosen. He’d know exactly what to do and what kind of calls he had to make. Everyone else thinks so, too.” 

But recently it’s like, where is this version of Flocke coming from? Who thought this was a good idea? He’s just a mouthpiece for opposition. I could totally get behind Flocke buying into the separation of Paradis vs. Eldia (even though they’re both Eldian nations), but if that’s the case, 1) we need it to exist earlier than just dropping it randomly into the story now so that he can act as irritating opposition, and 2) his M.O. of being a truth-bomb dropper needs to be dropped also. Sure, he says a couple of good things, but they’re not at all related to his actual actions. This isn’t the Flocke I know. 

And like I said last time, you can’t just use timeskips as an excuse to alter a character’s entire core. :/

Anya?

Anya Jenkins 

• Did they live up to their potential? / In what ways was their potential unachieved?

Anya had tons of potential. She was 1000 years old - the oldest main character by far - and should’ve had more knowledge of history, demons, and the world, than all of the other characters combined. Sadly, she was the emotionally dumb character who had to learn about humans from a 22 year old... 

• How they negatively and positively affected the story.

Anya replaces Cordelia as the comic relief and the tactless truth-bomb dropper. I think she’s pretty funny and adds lightness to the show. I also enjoy Xander and her. Their relationship was surprisingly mature and stable though it started out badly and ended messily. However, Anya didn’t fit the show on a moral level. BtVS never had a nonchalant attitude about vengeance, violence or death. The good guys were expected to be good people with an awareness of what is right and what is wrong. Anya never showed remorse for all the horrible things she did as a demon, showed a profound lack of empathy and minimal growth, and actually went back to her old life without a fuss. Anya, like Spike, are examples of the moral corruption of the later seasons. These characters are trusted and liked by some of the Scoobies, yet have little in the way of a conscience. Anya’s callousness is justified because she was a demon for 1000 years, but that isn’t an excuse at all. Demons are aware of morality; they just ignore it. Anya chose to become a demon. With or without a soul, she was indifferent to right or wrong, and it takes her too long to finally start caring. How can BtVS make any kind of statement about morality when its main characters are in bed with sociopaths? 

• What my favorite arc for them is.

Does Anya have arcs? I don’t like how she goes back to being a vengeance demon after the whole thing with Xander - it’s like she never learns and is totally okay with hurting or killing men because they were assholes - but I think that arc all the way up to Selfless was good. She was in pain and reacted poorly by trying to hurt Xander and becoming a demon, but I think her existential crisis (primarily in Selfless, which is a great episode) was actually relatable. Season 7 probably humanized Anya more than any other season. It’s ridiculous that she even starts granting wishes again, only shows remorse when she kills a bunch of college kids, and gets to have a redemption arc with minimal redemption, but, she has more natural emotional responses and growth than before.

• What I think of their ending.

Well, she goes out fighting, references her fear of bunnies, and even has a great speech earlier in the episode. I’m not unhappy, but I wish she hadn’t died. 

• When I wish they had died. / If I think they should’ve died.

I was actually very sad that she died (I mean, after I realized she had died, when Andrew mentioned it, of course...)
