The Tales of Trump's Blunders: How His Stupidity Ruined His Career
Introduction:
Since the early 20th Century, the American population has been plagued by self-indulged douchebags, paving their careers with racism. Donald J Trump is one of those people.
Donald John Trump
Born June 14th 1946 to Fred Trump (a real estate developer and businessman) and Mary Anne MacLeod (a domestic worker).
45th President of the United States of America
Colossal a**hole
Donald Trumps racism spans back to the 1970s and possibly even earlier, a busy-body businessman who believed he had the whole world in his hands. Little did he know what the future would hold for him. From money pay outs to national hatred to presidency, Trump's racism didn't stop him and he continued due to lack of repercussions for such poor behaviour.
Tumblr media
Chapter 1: Violation of the Fair Housing Act
This story begins during the administration of Richard Nixon. Trump was working as a real-estate developer, much like his father. His name branded businesses from hotels to golf courses to residential housing. Trump's first indictment was the US department of Justice suing him for refusing to rent to Black tenants, violating the Fair Housing Act. Some would say this is bravery, majority would call it stupidity. Blunder #1.
Tumblr media
Chapter 2: The Central Park Five
Trump continued for the next decade to subtly wreak his racist havoc but no-one expected this racist fuelled event. A "modern-day" lynching of one Latino teenager and four Black teenagers, who were accused of raping a jogger in New York City. Trump jumped at the opportunity to take charge of the case, starting with running an ad demanding the death penalty should be reinstated.
After spending many years in prison, the teenagers' convictions were overturned due to false conviction and false evidence. In return for the trauma the teenagers had faced, the city paid a settlement of $41 million (approx. $100 million in 2023). Although, even 27 years later, despite DNA evidence to support it, Trump believes the five teenagers were guilty of their "convictions". HOW UTTERLY UNBELIEVEABLE! Blunder #2 (Arguably one of his biggest mistakes).
Tumblr media
Chapter 3: John O'Donnell, The Plaza Hotel and Casino, Lies and more lies
The year is 1991, two years since Trump's conviction of five innocent teenagers. John O'Donnell, the former president of Atlantic City's Trump Plaza and Casino, published a book quoting the "I'm not racist" Donald Trump, regarding his criticism of a Black accountant. He quotes “Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day. … I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault, because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.” It's genuinely crazy to think that some awful-minded people can say absurd things like this and admire themselves for it. But clearly Trump can't control his tongue. What makes this blunder even worse is that he agreed with O'Donnell and seemed pleased about it. ABSOLUTELY REVOLTING! Blunder #3.
As a businessman, Trump's establishments continued to grow financially and in popularity. However, the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino seemed to cause many a problem for Trump. This time, one of many, he had to pay a $200,000 fine because it moved Black and women employees from tables to accommodate the piggish prejudices of his big-time gamblers. There's no forgetting here how much money meant to D. J. Trump. Blunder #4.
Tumblr media
Trump's web of lies continued to grow throughout the late 20th Century, pouring into the 21st Century. In 2000, Trump felt threatened by his upcoming competition, a casino ran by the St. Regis Mohawk tribe. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council is "the duly elected and recognised government of the Mohawk people. Both New York State and the United States deal exclusively with the Tribal Council Chiefs in a government-to-government relationship." They work together to build a better tomorrow. To crush his competition, he ran secret ads which suggested that the tribe has "a record of criminal activity that is well documented." The tribe were of Indian heritage, proving yet again that his actions were fuelled by racism.
The lies and deception were amplified by the New York Institute for Law and Society, a new self-described grass-roots anti-gambling group that cruelly targeted the St. Regis Mohawks. Its campaign in 2000, supposedly supported by 12,000 “pro-family” donors, warned of the evils an Indian casino would bring: “increased crime, broken families, bankruptcies and, in the case of the Mohawks, violence.” Trump's racism had successfully trumped (no pun intended) his opponents, but spread his plague of racism to others. Blunder #5.
Tumblr media
Chapter 4: The Apprentice
Maybe the 2000s would be a fresh start for Trump?
Nope. His racism still continued controlling everything he did and said.
In 2004, whilst on the Apprentice, Trump fired Black contestant Kevin Allen for being too educated. (Is that even possible? Does that just mean more educated than him? Or was it another attack on the Black population?) Trump quoted "You're an unbelievably talented guy in terms of education, and you haven't even done anything. At some point you have to say 'That's enough.'" Yet again, threat of competition brought out the vile racist side of Trump. Surely he has a good side?
In a 2016 interview with a former Apprentice contestant, Kwame Jackson stated “Trump has created a toxic ecosystem in our political discourse." “Trump has appealed to the lowest common denominator of fear, racism and divisiveness in our populace. And this mix is never the path to American progress.” Blunder #6
The following year Trump publicly pitched the idea of "The Apprentice: White People vs. Black people." A fairly controversial idea where he would create a team of successful white people versus a team of successful African-American people. Now, Trump stated that "Whether people like the idea or not, it is somewhat reflective of our very vicious world." Ultimately, Trump is pitching the idea of segregation between the white population of America and the African-American population of America. IT'S THE 21ST CENTURY, WHY REVERT BACK TO SEGREGATION?! His absurd idea was immediately shut down by NBC executives. Blunder #7.
Tumblr media
Chapter 5: Muslims and the Obama controversy
Into the 2010s, we as a worldwide population would hope that Donald Trump would come to his senses, well don't expect too much.
Trump continued with his insensitive, racist comments, but let everyone in on his thought on national television. In 2010, a proposal arose to build a Muslim community centre, near the memorial of the 9/11 attacks. Trump stepped in and stated how insensitive and inconsiderate that would be. Aww lovely, he's cracked down on his racism. Absolutely not, he took to live television on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and stated how he believed it was the Muslim population that were targeting Americans, 'Well, somebody’s blowing us up. Somebody’s blowing up buildings, and somebody’s doing lots of bad stuff.' Does he even have a brain? Some people have no filter and clearly Donald John Trump is bloody well one of them! Blunder #8.
Barack Obama was the first Black president of the United States of America, and he was a threat to Donald Trump. No shock there! Trump played a huge role in creating rumours that Obama was not born in the US. He claimed to send investigators to Hawaii to look into Obama’s birth certificate. One of the many reasons for this clear confusion was due to Obama spending a small part of his childhood in Indonesia, due to his mother divorcing his American father and remarrying an Indonesian man. Obama later released his birth certificate, calling Trump a “carnival barker.”
Trump's attacks on Obama didn't stop there. He continued to degrade the President of the United States by suggesting that Obama wasn't educated enough to both Colombia and Harvard Law School. He pressured the President to release his university credentials and provide proof due to it not being possible. It is without a doubt a racist attack, stating that Black people couldn't possibly be smart enough to attend such high-end university. Trump continuously attacks Obama because of his "lack of credentials" yet Trump didn't attend either. Can't bring a man down who is already up high. Blunder #9
Tumblr media
From the 1970s through to the 2010s, people may believe that Trump acted insensitively with lack of care for other. Whilst not overtly racist, his attacks post-Obama truly show the evils which lie within.
Chapter 6: Crime, Drugs and Bans
Trump's attack on Mexicans during his Presidential campaign truly showed that he would stop at nothing, regardless of the ramifications. Even though there are plenty of occasions where Trump has resulted to racism to prove his power and influence, he still became the President of the United States of America. How? Understandably, no President is perfect, there will always be a back story, something that holds them back, but Trump's past attacks are not forgivable. It wasn't like he'd stop once he became President, unfortunately as his power grew, so did the awfulness of his racism.
At the launch of his campaign in 2015, he started by stating that Mexican immigrants were "rapists" who are "bringing" and "bringing drugs" to the US. Throughout his campaign, he highlighted his idea of building a wall between the border of Mexico and the United States to stop the "immigrants" coming into the States. As of October 2020, there were 669 miles of "primary barrier" reports the US Customs and Border Protection. Blunder #10
Tumblr media
In 2015, Trump's racism didn't stop there. Reverting back to his old ways, Trump attacked the Muslim population putting them under the "umbrella of terrorists." He called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, much like with the Mexican population. During his administration he subtly implemented a weaker version of the policy. In 2017, his policy was implemented and was in effect indefinitely. However, it was only in effect for certain people from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen who did not have “bona fide relationships” with people or businesses in the United States. Blunder #11
Chapter 7: The Press Conference
Donald Trump didn't stop at press conferences, he seemed well-aware of what he was saying and the implications that went with it. At press conference, Trump showed to the nation that he views black people as a monolithic “other” — a group of people who work and behave in exactly similar ways. Not only does this seem to define an entire group of people down to a lowest common denominator, but it’s also simply dehumanizing to treat individuals as only part of a bigger group.
In his pitch to black voters during the campaign, Trump said, “You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?” What a horrible thing to say, especially to a large population who you relied on to become President? Blunder #12
Tumblr media
The image above shows the percentage of votes for each party by each race. The above statistics show that Trump relied heavily on white American voters, whilst Clinton obtained the majority of her votes from the Black community. It is without a doubt that the Black population would have thrown their votes to Clinton as Trump's racism focussed mainly on the Black community.
Chapter 8: Coronavirus
2020 was a difficult time for the globe, time seemed to freeze but be flying by all that the same time. Trump wasn't expecting such an issue to arise during his presidential term. Many tweets posted by President Trump contained direct attack at the Chinese nation. At the beginning of the coronavirus before the world went into lockdown, Trump tweeted that he was trying his hardest to work with China and stop the spread of coronavirus, but ultimately became an opportunity to use his racism to blame others for the rising cases of COVID-19. Alternative names were given to the spreading virus by the President, including the "Chinese virus" and the "Kung Flu".
Tumblr media
"Anti-Asian sentiment depicted in the tweets containing the term 'Chinese Virus' likely perpetuated racist attitudes and parallels the anti-Asian hate crimes that have occurred since," said Dr. Yulin Hswen, an assistant professor of epidemiology at UC, San Francisco and the study's lead author. After many experts have encouraged a different term for the coronavirus, including the World Health Organisation, Trump still continues to throw racism as the home nation of the coronavirus. Referring to it as the "Chinese virus" encourages further turmoil and hate for a nation that has already faced too much. Donald Trump needs to sit down and have a long hard think of what it would feel like if America had been in China's shoes. He sure wouldn't stand for it. Blunder #13
Tumblr media
Chapter 9: The ending
Trump's racism has made him into the person that he is. Not only was he a terrible President, he is a terrible person. Racism is defined as: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized. The ultimate question to ask is: why are people racist? What does one gain from it? Power? Pleasure?
Blunder after blunder, from violating laws to contributing to the USA-Mexico wall, why wasn't Trump punished for his actions? Even when Obama was President, why was nothing done to stop such a stupid man?
Why is Trump racist? Why weren't there any repercussion? Throughout school and throughout life, children are told that racism is a very bad thing and that it makes you a bad person to be racist. So why is one of the most negatively influential men of the 21st Century not punished for being racist? Why are there double standards?
These will always be questions that will be left unanswered and your opinion is your opinion.

USA TODAY exclusive: Hundreds allege the Diarrhea Dentures Simpering Senile Snake of Marred-A-LAME0, Liddle donnie trump, doesn’t pay his bills. Dumb Chump donnie j. trump casts himself as a protector of workers and jobs, but a USA TODAY NETWORK investigation found hundreds of people – carpenters, dishwashers, painters, even his own lawyers – who say he didn’t pay them for their work. Steve Reilly USA TODAY Published 2:46 p.m. ET June 9, 2016 (14:46 ET) Updated 1:42 p.m. ET April 25, 2018 (13:42 ET) During the Atlantic City casino boom in the 1980s, Philadelphia cabinet-builder Edward Friel Jr. landed a $400,000 contract to build the bases for slot machines, registration desks, bars and other cabinets at Harrah's at Trump Plaza.
The family cabinetry business, founded in the 1940s by Edward’s father, finished its work in 1984 and submitted its final bill to the general contractor for the Trump Organization, the resort’s builder.
Edward’s son, Paul, who was the firm’s accountant, still remembers the amount of that bill more than 30 years later: $83,600. The reason: the money never came. “That began the demise of the Edward J. Friel Company… which has been around since my grandfather,” he said.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Donald Trump often portrays himself as a savior of the working class who will "protect your job." But a USA TODAY NETWORK analysis found he has been involved in more than 3,500 lawsuits over the past three decades — and a large number of those involve ordinary Americans, like the Friels, who say Trump or his companies have refused to pay them.
At least 60 lawsuits, along with hundreds of liens, judgments, and other government filings reviewed by the USA TODAY NETWORK, document people who have accused Trump and his businesses of failing to pay them for their work. Among them: a dishwasher in Florida. A glass company in New Jersey. A carpet company. A plumber. Painters. Forty-eight waiters. Dozens of bartenders and other hourly workers at his resorts and clubs, coast to coast. Real estate brokers who sold his properties. And, ironically, several law firms that once represented him in these suits and others. Trump’s companies have also been cited for 24 violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act since 2005 for failing to pay overtime or minimum wage, according to U.S. Department of Labor data. That includes 21 citations against the defunct Trump Plaza in Atlantic City and three against the also out-of-business Trump Mortgage LLC in New York. Both cases were resolved by the companies agreeing to pay back wages. In addition to the lawsuits, the review found more than 200 mechanic’s liens — filed by contractors and employees against Trump, his companies or his properties claiming they were owed money for their work — since the 1980s. The liens range from a $75,000 claim by a Plainview, N.Y., air conditioning and heating company to a $1 million claim from the president of a New York City real estate banking firm. On just one project, Trump’s Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, records released by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission in 1990 show that at least 253 subcontractors weren’t paid in full or on time, including workers who installed walls, chandeliers and plumbing. The actions in total paint a portrait of Trump’s sprawling organization frequently failing to pay small businesses and individuals, then sometimes tying them up in court and other negotiations for years. In some cases, the Trump teams financially overpower and outlast much smaller opponents, draining their resources. Some just give up the fight, or settle for less; some have ended up in bankruptcy or out of business altogether.
Tumblr media
Trump and his daughter Ivanka, in an interview with USA TODAY, shrugged off the lawsuits and other claims of non-payment. If a company or worker he hires isn’t paid fully, the Trumps said, it’s because The Trump Organization was unhappy with the work.
“Let’s say that they do a job that’s not good, or a job that they didn’t finish, or a job that was way late. I’ll deduct from their contract, absolutely,” Trump said. “That’s what the country should be doing.”
To be sure, Trump and his companies have prevailed in many legal disputes over missing payments, or reached settlements that cloud the terms reached by the parties.
Tumblr media
However, the consistent circumstances laid out in those lawsuits and other non-payment claims raise questions about Trump’s judgment as a businessman, and as a potential commander- in- chief. The number of companies and others alleging he hasn’t paid suggests that either his companies have a poor track record hiring workers and assessing contractors, or that Trump businesses renege on contracts, refuse to pay, or consistently attempt to change payment terms after work is complete as is alleged in dozens of court cases. In the interview, Trump repeatedly said the cases were “a long time ago.” However, even as he campaigns for the presidency, new cases are continuing. Just last month, Trump Miami Resort Management LLC settled with 48 servers at his Miami golf resort over failing to pay overtime for a special event. The settlements averaged about $800 for each worker and as high as $3,000 for one, according to court records. Some workers put in 20-hour days over the 10-day Passover event at Trump National Doral Miami, the lawsuit contends. Trump’s team initially argued a contractor hired the workers, and he wasn’t responsible, and counter-sued the contractor demanding payment. “Trump could have settled it right off the bat, but they wanted to fight it out, that’s their M.O.” said Rod Hannah, of Plantation, Fla., the lawyer who represented the workers, who he said are forbidden from talking about the case in public. “They’re known for their aggressiveness, and if you have the money, why not?”
Tumblr media
Millstone Township resident J. Michael Diehl says he was stiffed out of $30,000 after selling eight pianos in 1989 to an Atlantic City casino controlled by Donald Trump. But Diehl said he waited for months to get paid. Eventually the Taj Mahal offered him three options for payment: take 70 cents on the dollar, wait until the casino was profitable or force it into bankruptcy and get pennies on the dollar. “I had no other choice but to swallow the bitter pill,” Diehl, 88, told The Press. He took a $70,000 payment, losing 30 percent on the deal.
Similar cases have cropped up with Trump’s facilities in California and New York, where hourly workers, bartenders and wait staff have sued with a range of allegations from not letting workers take breaks to not passing along tips to servers. Trump's company settled the California case, and the New York case is pending. Trump's Doral golf resort also has been embroiled in recent non-payment claims by two different paint firms, with one case settled and the other pending. Last month, his company’s refusal to pay one Florida painter more than $30,000 for work at Doral led the judge in the case to order foreclosure of the resort if the contractor isn’t paid. Juan Carlos Enriquez, owner of The Paint Spot, in South Florida, has been waiting more than two years to get paid for his work at the Doral. The Paint Spot first filed a lien against Trump’s course, then filed a lawsuit asking a Florida judge to intervene.
In courtroom testimony, the manager of the general contractor for the Doral renovation admitted that a decision was made not to pay The Paint Spot because Trump “already paid enough.” As the construction manager spoke, “Trump’s trial attorneys visibly winced, began breathing heavily, and attempted to make eye contact” with the witness, the judge noted in his ruling. That, and other evidence, convinced the judge The Paint Spot’s claim was credible. He ordered last month that the Doral resort be foreclosed on, sold, and the proceeds used to pay Enriquez the money he was owed. Trump’s attorneys have since filed a motion to delay the sale, and the contest continues.
Enriquez still hasn’t been paid.
Trump frequently boasts that he will bring jobs back to America, including Tuesday in a primary-election night victory speech at his golf club in suburban New York City. “No matter who you are, we're going to protect your job,” Trump said Tuesday. “Because let me tell you, our jobs are being stripped from our country like we're babies.” But the lawsuits show Trump’s organization wages Goliath vs David legal battles over small amounts of money that are negligible to the billionaire and his executives — but devastating to his much-smaller foes.
In 2007, for instance, dishwasher Guy Dorcinvil filed a federal lawsuit against Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club resort in Palm Beach, Fla., alleging the club failed to pay time-and-a-half for overtime he worked over three years and the company failed to keep proper time records for employees. Mar-a-Lago LLC agreed to pay Dorcinvil $7,500 to settle the case in 2008. The terms of the settlement agreement includes a standard statement that Mar-a-Lago does not admit fault and forbids Dorcinvil or his lawyers from talking about the case, according to court records.
Developers with histories of not paying contractors are a very small minority of the industry, said Colette Nelson, chief advocacy officer of the American Subcontractors Association. But late or missing payments can be devastating for small businesses and their employees. “Real estate is a tough and aggressive business, but most business people don’t set out to make their money by breaking the companies that they do business with,” she said, stressing she couldn’t speak directly to the specifics of cases in Trump’s record. “But there are a few.”
Tumblr media
In the interview, Trump said that complaints represent a tiny fraction of his business empire and dealings with contractors and employees, insisting all are paid fairly. “We pay everybody what they’re supposed to be paid, and we pay everybody on time,” he said. “And we employ thousands and thousands of people. OK?”
Despite the Trumps’ assertion that his their companies only refuse payment to contractors “when somebody does a bad job,” he has sometimes offered to hire those same contractors again. It’s a puzzling turn of events, since most people who have a poor experience with a contractor, and who refuse to pay and even fight the contractor in court, aren’t likely to offer to rehire them. Nevertheless, such was the case for the Friels. After submitting the final bill for the Plaza casino cabinet-building in 1984, Paul Friel said he got a call asking that his father, Edward, come to the Trump family’s offices at the casino for a meeting. There Edward, and some other contractors, were called in one by one to meet with Donald Trump and his brother, Robert Trump. “He sat in a room with nine guys,” Paul Friel said. “We found out some of them were carpet guys. Some of them were glass guys. Plumbers. You name it.”
In the meeting, Donald Trump told his father that the company’s work was inferior, Friel said, even though the general contractor on the casino had approved it. The bottom line, Trump told Edward Friel, was the company wouldn't get the final payment. Then, Friel said Trump added something that struck the family as bizarre. Trump told his dad that he could work on other Trump projects in the future.
“Wait a minute,” Paul Friel said, recalling his family's reaction to his dad’s account of the meeting. “Why would the Trump family want a company who they say their work is inferior to work for them in the future?” Asked about the meeting this week, Trump said, “Was the work bad? Was it bad work?” And, then, after being told that the general contractor had approved it, Trump added, “Well, see here’s the thing. You’re talking about, what, 30 years ago?”
Ivanka Trump added that any number of disputes over late or deficient payments that were found over the past few decades pale in comparison to the thousands of checks Trump companies cut each month. “We have hundreds of millions of dollars of construction projects underway. And we have, for the most part, exceptional contractors on them who get paid, and get paid quickly,” she said, adding that she doubted any contractor complaining in court or in the press would admit they delivered substandard work. “But it would be irresponsible if my father paid contractors who did lousy work. And he doesn’t do that.”
Tumblr media
But, the Friels’ story is similar to experiences of hundreds of other contractors over the casino-boom decade in Atlantic City. Legal records, New Jersey Casino Control Commission records and contemporaneous local newspaper stories recounted time and again tales about the Trumps paying late or renegotiating deals for dimes on the dollar. A half-decade after the Friels’ encounter, in 1990, as Trump neared the opening of his third Atlantic City casino, he was once again attempting to pay contractors less than he owed. In casino commission records of an audit, it was revealed that Trump’s companies owed a total of $69.5 million to 253 subcontractors on the Taj Mahal project. Some already had sued Trump, the state audit said; others were negotiating with Trump to try to recover what they could. The companies and their hundreds of workers had installed walls, chandeliers, plumbing, lighting and even the casino’s trademark minarets. One of the builders was Marty Rosenberg, vice president of Atlantic Plate Glass Co., who said he was owed about $1.5 million for work at the Taj Mahal. When it became clear Trump was not going to pay in full, Rosenberg took on an informal leadership role, representing about 100 to 150 contractors in negotiations with Trump.
Rosenberg’s mission: with Trump offering as little as 30 cents on the dollar to some of the contractors, Rosenberg wanted to get as much as he could for the small businesses, most staffed by younger tradesmen with modest incomes and often families to support. “Yes, there were a lot of other companies," he said of those Trump left waiting to get paid. "Yes, some did not survive."
Rosenberg said his company was among the lucky ones. He had to delay paying his own suppliers to the project. The negotiations led to him eventually getting about 70 cents on the dollar for his work, and he was able to pay all of his suppliers in full.

The analysis of Trump lawsuits also found that professionals, such as real estate agents and lawyers, say he's refused to pay them sizable sums of money. Those cases show that even some loyal employees, those selling his properties and fighting for him in court, are only with him until they’re not. Real estate broker Rana Williams, who said she had sold hundreds of millions of dollars in Manhattan property for Trump International Realty over more than two decades with the company, sued in 2013 alleging Trump shorted her $735,212 in commissions on deals she brokered from 2009 to 2012. Williams, who managed as many as 16 other sales agents for Trump, said the tycoon and his senior deputies decided to pay her less than her contracted commission rate “based on nothing more than whimsy.” Trump and Williams settled their case in 2015, and the terms of the deal are confidential, as is the case in dozens of other settlements between plaintiffs and Trump companies.
However, Williams' 2014 deposition in the case is not sealed. In her sworn testimony, Williams said the 2013 commission shortage wasn't the only one, and neither was she the only person who didn't get fully paid. “There were instances where a sizable commission would come in and we would be waiting for payment and it wouldn’t come,” she testified. “That was both for myself and for some of the agents.” Another broker, Jennifer McGovern, filed a similar lawsuit against the now-defunct Trump Mortgage LLC in 2007, citing a six-figure commission on real-estate sales that she said went unpaid. A judge issued a judgment ordering Trump Mortgage to pay McGovern $298,274.
Even Trump’s own attorneys, on several occasions, sued him over claims of unpaid bills.
One law firm that fought contractors over payments and other issues for Trump — New York City’s Morrison Cohen LLP — ended up on the other side of a similar battle with the mogul in 2008. Trump didn’t like that its lawyers were using his name in press releases touting its representation of Trump in a lawsuit against a construction contractor that Trump claimed overcharged him for work on a luxury golf club. As Trump now turned his ire on his former lawyers, however, Morrison Cohen counter-sued. In court records, the law firm alleged Trump didn’t pay nearly a half million dollars in legal fees. Trump and his ex-lawyers settled their disputes out of court, confidentially, in 2009.
In 2012, Virginia-based law firm Cook, Heyward, Lee, Hopper & Feehan filed a lawsuit against the Trump Organization for $94,511 for legal fees and costs. The case was eventually settled out of court. But as the case unfolded, court records detail how Trump's senior deputies attacked the attorneys' quality of work in the local and trade press, leading the firm to make claims of defamation that a judge ultimately rejected on free speech grounds.

Trump claims in his presidential personal financial disclosure to be worth $10 billion as a result of his business acumen. Many of the small contractors and individuals who weren’t paid by him haven’t been as fortunate. Edward Friel, of the Philadelphia cabinetry company allegedly shortchanged for the casino work, hired a lawyer to sue for the money, said his son, Paul Friel. But the attorney advised him that the Trumps would drag the case out in court and legal fees would exceed what they’d recover. The unpaid bill took a huge chunk out of the bottom line of the company that Edward ran to take care of his wife and five kids. “The worst part wasn’t dealing with the Trumps,” Paul Friel said. After standing up to Trump, Friel said the family struggled to get other casino work in Atlantic City. “There’s tons of these stories out there,” he said.
The Edward J. Friel Co. filed for bankruptcy on October 5, 1989.

Melania Trump ‘quietly’ renegotiated prenup with Donald ahead of potential second presidential term, legal woes: sources By Ian Mohr Published Sep. 28, 2023, 5:13 p.m. ET “Over the last year, Melania and her team have been quietly negotiating a new ‘postnup’ agreement between herself and Donald Trump.” The source further said, “This is at least the third time Melania has renegotiated the terms of her martial agreement,” but the source added that it’s not because the former first lady is going anywhere. “Melania is most concerned about maintaining and increasing a substantial trust for their son, Barron,” 17, the same source familiar with Melania, 53, told Page Six. The new agreement also provides for Melania, and spans money and property, according to the source. “I know that she wanted it to provide her with more money, and also — from what I understand — there’s a specific amount at minimum that Barron is supposed to obtain.” The first source said that the timing of the updated agreement wasn’t only because Trump, 77, could potentially serve another term, but because of his recent legal battles as well. Said the insider, “This agreement was necessary because of the current legal battles… [Donald] has suffered” — including potential payouts in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ sprawling, $250 million civil case against Trump and his real estate business, as well as his order to pay $5 million to E. Jean Carroll for defaming her. “She wanted proof in writing that when it came to financial opportunities and inheritance, Barron would be treated as more of an equal to Trump’s oldest three children” — meaning Donald’s grown kids with Ivana Trump, Eric, Ivanka and Don Jr. Source: https://pagesix.com/2023/09/28/melania-trump-quietly-renegotiated-donald-trump-prenup/

Dan Alexander
Senior editor at Forbes, covering Donald Trump's business
Dec 7, 2022,
A New York jury convicted the Trump Organization of tax fraud Tuesday, setting up Donald Trump’s company to pay a fine of $1.62 million or less—pennies for an operation that generates more than $500 million of annual revenue. The conviction could inflict real pain on Trump’s business if it prompts lenders to abandon their controversial client or demand higher interest rates in the future. But as of now, Trump’s largest lenders do not seem ready to walk away.
Forbes reached out to ten individuals and institutions who have helped give Trump money over the years. Current creditors were not in the mood to talk about the conviction. “Axos has no comment on this,” said a spokesperson for Axos Bank, which refinanced two Trump properties—Trump Tower in New York City and Trump National Doral in Miami—while the Trump Organization was under indictment, handing the former president $225 million and becoming his most important lender in the process.
“I got nothing to talk to you about,” said Ladder Capital CEO Brian Harris, before hanging up the phone. Trump still owes $146 million against three New York City properties that Ladder Capital helped finance: 40 Wall Street, Trump Plaza and the Trump International Hotel & Tower.
“We will decline to comment,” said a spokesperson for JPMorgan Chase, which worked to refinance $2.15 billion of debt over the last two years against New York’s 1290 Avenue of the Americas and San Francisco’s 555 California Street, properties in which the former president holds a 30% interest alongside publicly traded Vornado Realty Trust.
“We do not comment on current or former clients,” said a spokesperson for Deutsche Bank, which has been exiting its relationship with Trump but still holds $45 million of debt connected to his property in Chicago, set to mature in 2024.
Three people who helped finance Trump projects long ago were more willing to share their thoughts. “If I were a lender and this were on their record, and I knew nothing about them, I’d say I’d rather lend to companies that don’t have this on their record,” said Mike Offit, who formerly worked with Trump at Deutsche Bank, adding that he believed the former president had been subject to unfair levels of scrutiny and actually owned a relatively clean business.
Another person who previously loaned to Trump said the conviction might affect the type of loans that Trump’s companies are able to secure in the future. “I can’t imagine that anybody is going to depend on his personal guarantees,” said the former lender, who asked to speak anonymously.
A third person, who also did not want to speak on the record, said he expects that Trump will have trouble getting loans from the sorts of A-list banks with which he used to work. “That would be a nonstarter,” he said. “It would be a ding on me if I even brought in that deal.” Instead, he predicted that Trump will have to resort to nontraditional financing. “Smaller, no-name banks,” he said, “and then all those other foreign banks. I’m even wondering about the Middle Eastern banks.”
Skeptics have long questioned Trump’s ability to secure financing, given his history. Trump’s airline defaulted on its loans in 1990, a New York hotel declared bankruptcy in 1992, his Atlantic City casinos filed for bankruptcy five times in the 1990s and 2000s, his Chicago tower defaulted on its debt in 2008, he allegedly lied to financial institutions about his finances from 2011 to 2021, and his supporters violently took over the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, prompting multiple lenders to quickly distance themselves. Still, Trump has always managed to find more financing. In the last two years, his business has reworked nearly $1 billion of debt. Even if Trump’s key creditors are unnerved by Tuesday’s conviction—which seems unlikely, given that they offered loans while his company was under indictment—Trump should be able to find another option, according to one of the former financiers. “There’s probably always that lender of last resort out there.”
Representatives of the Trump Organization did not answer an inquiry about how the conviction might affect the business, instead responding with a statement that pinned the crimes on Trump’s former chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg. “Mr. Weisselberg testified under oath that he ‘betrayed’ the trust the company had placed in him and that he, at all times, acted ‘solely’ for his ‘own personal gain’ and out of his ‘own personal greed,’” the spokesperson said in a statement. “The notion that a company could be held responsible for an employee’s actions, to benefit themselves, on their own personal tax returns, is simply preposterous.”
District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whose office prosecuted the case, offered a different explanation. “This was a case about greed and cheating,” he said in a statement. “For 13 years, the Trump Corp. and the Trump Payroll Corp. got away with a scheme that awarded high-level executives with lavish perks and compensation while intentionally concealing the benefits from the taxing authorities to avoid paying taxes.”
Susan Necheles, a lawyer for the Trump Corp., said the business planned to appeal the verdict.
