OK, so we may be a day late, but for something this wholesome, frankly, my dear, it matters not.

Treat Yo' Self Day may be traditionally celebrated on October 13th, which was yesterday. And a Friday, famously. So to make amends, we are going one further and celebrating not just one but two days in commemoration, across Saturday and Sunday, in tribute to both #parks and recs and #treat yoself.

Frankly, my dears, you deserve it. Happy Saturday.

Whumptober Day 10: “You said you’d never leave.”

The body beneath his calloused fingers is barely warm. He grips the hero’s tunic in an iron fist. “Any second now. Any second.”

Air escapes the hero’s mouth, wafting from blood stained lips like a sigh, a gasp, a condemnation. Ganondorf waits for words that do not come. It is only stray gas, after all; death always claims every ounce of its corpses.

“Where is it?” Ganondorf asks. “Where are you?” He strains his senses, searching for a reflection of the Triforce somewhere in the kingdom, in the world. He feels nothing but atmospheric pressure and his own too-quick heartbeat. He feels nothing at all.

“Damn you, where are you?” he roars, shaking the hero so hard that his pretty blonde head makes an awful crack against the ruined castle tiles. There is less blood than he expects, and it stinks of lifelessness. He turns the hero over and grips his chin, claws scorching and branding in his fury, his confusion, his grief.

“Always, always before, I could sense you. You’re my challenge, my enemy. Destiny itself has driven us together time after time! So where, where does your soul lie now?”

The world is awash in magically charged yellows and purples. The clouds billow, tumultuous and sick, and Ganondorf glances upward as though he can see straight to the source of divinity. Of course, he cannot. “You’re the Hero of Courage,” he says with a groan, gripping once again at flesh now gone cool. “You’re supposed to be reborn, to harbor a soul forever at odds with mine! So where—where?”

Ganondorf closes his eyes and detects, throughout the world, only an abundance of fear. He feels sick with it. “You can’t leave me,” he tells the corpse of a failed man. “I cannot be alone.”

I was obsessed with Guzma when I first got into the game, but throughout the years of struggling mentally, I just really felt like I didn't deserve to care for him.
