IT WAS SO GOOD, IT WAS SO GOOD..Uhh mhmm.

This week's Frieren episode was a showcase of the animators that the show continues to hold, top-tier level animators who you would typically see creating "sakuga" moments for just a few moments in a show. However, they are constant animators throughout the entirety of Frieren. And while you should have already been impressed, the Stark fight scene against the dragon truly showcased their talents.

An underrated role that people don't typically mention is the animation producer, who is mostly responsible for gathering the animators for a show. In this case, it's Yuuichirou Fukushi, who has been the animation producer for Sonny Boy, takt op.Destiny, One Punch Man, and more. The staff he assembles for his shows is simply top-notch almost every time, and I felt like I needed to mention that, especially when he is now responsible for two of my personal top shows, Frieren and Sonny Boy. Takashi Nakame is also listed as an animation producer for the show, but I don't know as much about him. Nevertheless, he should also be mentioned. In the Stark fight scene alone, you have Hironori Tanaka, Keiichirou Watanabe, Shingo Yamashita, Tatsuya Yoshihara, Chris (Yen bm), and Yutaka Nakamura. That's a team of multiple superstar animators that you wish one of them would be in your own show, but Frieren has all of them together, and the result is something you just have to see for yourself.

While I never really read Frieren's manga for its fight scenes, I was excited to see the action scenes in the animation. We did see it in the four-episode debut, but that was a more stationary wizard magic battle (which was still very cool). However, Stark vs. the dragon feels greatly enhanced compared to the manga. Just from the moment Stark runs to engage, the camera naturally follows him as he charges in, continuing to track him as if it were a boss fight in a video game. The fluidity and character acting amidst all of this action are phenomenal and it's all done in completely 2D including the backgrounds and dragons which is rarer nowadays.

The decision for a closer, more dynamic adaptation of the fight scene can be credited to Tooru Iwazawa, who is the action director for this episode. He also storyboarded and directed the entire episode.

Setting the action aside, I loved the episode as always. The attention to detail in translating the characters' expressions from the manga to the anime never ceases to amaze me. As someone who used to collect Fern's funny faces in the manga, I'm delighted to see all of them in their full glory. It's also heartwarming to witness the budding relationship between Fern and Stark in this episode.

Monkey (孫悟空, Son Gokū), the title character, is described in the theme song as being "born from an egg on a mountain top", a stone egg, and thus he is a stone monkey, a skilled fighter who becomes a brash king of a monkey tribe, who, the song goes on to claim, was "the punkiest monkey that ever popped". He achieved a little enlightenment, and proclaimed himself "Great Sage, Equal of Heaven". After demanding the "gift" of a magical staff from a powerful dragon king, and to quiet the din of his rough antics on Earth, Monkey is approached by Heaven to join their host, first in the lowly position of Master of the Stable (manure disposal), and then—after his riotous complaints—as "Keeper of the Peach Garden of Immortality".

Monkey eats many of the peaches, which have taken millennia to ripen, becomes immortal and runs amok. Having earned the ire of Heaven and being beaten in a challenge by an omniscient, mighty, but benevolent, cloud-dwelling Buddha (釈迦如来, Shakanyorai), Monkey is imprisoned for 500 years under a mountain in order to learn patience.

Eventually, Monkey is released by the monk Tripitaka (三蔵法師, Sanzōhōshi), who has been tasked by the Boddhisatva Guanyin (観世音菩薩, Kanzeon Bosatsu) to undertake a pilgrimage from China to India to fetch holy scriptures (implied to be the region of Gandhāra in the song over the closing credits). The pair soon recruit two former members of the Heavenly Host who were cast out and turned from angels to "monsters" as a result of Monkey's transgressions: Sandy (沙悟浄, Sa Gojō), the water monster and ex-cannibal, expelled from Heaven after his interference caused Heaven's Jade Emperor's (天帝, Tentei, Shangdi) precious jade cup to be broken (his birthname is also later revealed to be Shao Chin, having been abducted as a child, but meets his long-lost father, in "The Beginning of Wisdom"), and Pigsy (猪八戒, Cho Hakkai), a pig monster consumed with lust and gluttony, who was expelled from Heaven after harassing the Star Princess Vega—the Jade Emperor's mistress—for a kiss.

A dragon, Yu Lung (玉龍, Gyokuryū), who was set free by Guanyin after being sentenced to death, eats Tripitaka's horse. On discovering that the horse was tasked with carrying Tripitaka, it assumes the horse's shape to carry the monk on his journey. Later in the story he occasionally assumes human form to assist his new master, although he is still always referred to as "Horse".

Monkey can also change form, for instance into a hornet. In Episode 3, The Great Journey Begins, Monkey transforms into a girl to trick Pigsy. Monkey's other magic powers include: summoning a cloud upon which he can fly; his use of the magic wishing staff which he can shrink and grow at will and from time to time, when shrunk, store in his ear, and which he uses as a weapon; and the ability to conjure monkey warriors by blowing on hairs plucked from his chest.

The pilgrims face many perils and antagonists both human, such as Emperor Taizong of Tang (太宗皇帝, Taisōkōtei) and supernatural. Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy are often called upon to battle demons, monsters, and bandits, despite Tripitaka's constant call for peace. Many episodes also feature some moral lesson, usually based upon Buddhist and/or Taoist philosophies, which are elucidated by the narrator at the end of various scenes.

2023年09月02日 Agatha Christie au Japon

Il y a deux ans, j'écoutais l'intégralité des albums d'un musicien japonais nommé Tatsuro Yamashita. Il est connu en partie pour avoir composé des chansons pour de nombreuses publicités et de nombreux dramas pour la télévision japonaise. Les albums qui sortaient à partir des années 2000 étaient majoritairement des compilations des différentes musiques qu'il avait composées pour les programmes de l'époque.

Et une musique que j'avais beaucoup appréciée provenait de l'album "Sonorite" sorti en 2005 qui s'appelait "Lucky Girl Hanataba Wo".

Malheureusement, je ne peux la partager ici car elle n'est pas sur Spotify et on ne peut poster des musiques dont on n'a pas les droits sur Tumblr... La musique est disponible sur YouTube, mais il ne s'agit pas de vidéos officielles et elles disparaissent aussi vite qu'elles apparaissent.

Cependant, je me suis rendu compte bien plus tard que cette musique avait été composée pour un anime qui adaptait les romans d'Agatha Christie, avec Hercule Poirot et Miss Marple. J'ai fini de le regarder aujourd'hui, et je veux vous en parler un petit peu !

Sorti en 2004, c'est un dessin animé produit par OLM, un studio d'animation japonais qui a notamment travaillé sur... Pokémon ! Quant au compositeur, il s'agit de Toshiyuki Watanabe, qui a travaillé par le passé sur l'orchestration des musiques du jeu vidéo Shenmue...

Autant dire que Tatsuro Yamashita + Pokémon + Agatha Christie + Shenmue c'est un combo qui je dois l'admettre m'a rendu super curieux de regarder cet anime, surtout que je n'avais jamais lu aucun roman d'Agatha Christie auparavant.

Il s'agit d'une adaptation un peu libre de différents romans d'Agatha Christie qui avaient soit Poirot soit Marple comme personnage principal. Mais dans cet anime, les deux personnages vivent dans le même univers ! Cependant ils ne se croisent jamais, car les épisodes étant des adaptations des romans, l'histoire reste fidèle (même si simplifiée je suppose). Pour faire le pont entre les deux, un personnage a été inventé de toute pièce: Mabel ! Elle est la fille du neveu de Marple, tandis qu'elle sert aussi d'assistante à Poirot ! Elle est aussi accompagnée de son Pokémon... enfin de son canard de compagnie Oliver.

Le principe est simple: un meurtre, une fortune détournée ? Poirot ou Marple est sur le coup ! Comme les histoires suivent souvent la même structure, ça commençait à tourner un peu en rond vers la fin, mais c'était tout de même très sympa ! Hercule Poirot agit comme s'il avait toujours une longueur d'avance sur le scénario, ce qui rend les moments où il est plus vulnérable vraiment trépidants.

Comme Mabel a été rajoutée comme fil conducteur, on sent qu'ils ont dû faire en sorte de lui donner des trouvailles importantes pour qu'elle soit utile aux différentes histoires. Cependant, elle apporte aussi une progression (en tant qu'apprentie auprès de Poirot) qui est la bienvenue dans une série qui se contente d'adapter des histoires qui n'ont pas vraiment de lien entre elles.

J'ai d'ailleurs été surpris de deux choses: tout d'abord, certaines musiques dans la bande-son du dessin animé référencent les génériques d'ouverture et de fermeture créés par Tatsuro Yamashita ! On ne peut pas dire que ça arrive souvent... Enfin, les personnages importants sont ré-introduits à chaque épisode, avec leur comédien/comédienne de doublage ! C'est également très rare, on dirait une série télévisée classique où le nom des acteurs est constamment montré. Comme on peut techniquement regarder les épisodes dans n'importe quel ordre (sauf ceux qui sont découpés en partie), c'est une bonne idée pour s'assurer que chaque épisode peut être le premier (même si les premiers épisodes sont écrits dans un but introductif).

L'anime n'est malheureusement jamais sorti en dehors du Japon, je l'ai donc regardé avec des sous-titres anglais créés par des fans sur Internet. Si vous voulez entrainer votre anglais (ou votre japonais) et que les sous-titres ne vous dérangent pas, vous pouvez regarder les épisodes sur YouTube avec le lien ci-dessous:

i did this on an old blog once upon a time and i’m gonna do it again because bios are pending: a basic summarization of each of my original characters featured on the blog.

toshiyuki nakane ; human, ensemble stars oc. an idol who’s hanging on his last thread. motivated by spite & a need for vengeance for an old friend yet he’s also struggling to feel the same passion he used to when there was two. now that it’s just him he’s sort of lost yet he refuses to quit here. he wants to reach the stage his friend could never. maybe then could he finally give himself a break but until then he’s here to be your significant annoyance!

acesis iyer ; wizard, mahoyaku oc, originally a southern wizard but presently lives in eastern country. a sort-of quack ( pretends to have experience and/or knowledge in the medical field ) / back alley doctor as a result of his magic specialty ( wound / pain transferal ). does this as a means to make a living and y’know survive. not against aiding or assisting various kind of people if it means the payout is good. kind of a jittery and jumpy person. quick to change how he acts depending on the person. somewhat jaded deep down but has a cheery exterior for the sake of keeping good blood.

ciara enfield ; sage wizard, mahoyaku oc; a central wizard but was born in eastern country. very much one to stick to her ideals or logic. kind of blunt, outwardly cold but it’s more of her strict-image coming into play. she’s rather easy to get along with. it’s just a matter of respect and one proving themself to her. she’s all for doing things for the right cause and tends to hold grudges or ill opinions of those with the intent of evil or ill purposes.

luther bazin ; wizard, mahoyaku oc ; former prisoner that has since been released for his crimes after serving his sentence. born from a bloodline with dragons and his magic specialty is heavily based around the fact. rather intimidating and scary at first look- but even after that can he be quite a gruff and a little too blunt. trying to re-adjust himself to his freedom and adjusted mindset but old habits are hard to shake!

severus cross ; sage wizard, mahoyaku oc ; eastern wizard. easy temper & kind of hostile to strangers. holds humans in contempt and generally distrusting or has a preference to solitude. underneath the layers he puts up is he rather playful. sort of a dick but not intentionally. he just tends to poke or tease a lot, doesn’t hold himself back.

watanabe leo ; fate master oc (ritsuface) ; a dead apostle (vampire) that took residence in the chaldea as a means to be safe from the church. somehow lead him to being the master. fun shit. he’s rather awkward, pretty jumpy, and panics over the smallest of things. trying to do a REALLY good job so he doesn’t get killed y’know ( it’s do or die in his head. )

aloysius baum ; wolf shifter, a very strong-willed confident man. holds criminals and most horrible people in contempt. seems rough on the outside but deep down is a person with a lot of compassion, he just has his own ways of expressing or showing this.

asa reid ; half human half reaper. has to decide between giving up his humanity to be a reaper or continuing to live as a human and no longer be a reaper but since he’s yet to decide he’s somewhere in the middle. able to communicate and see the dead & spirits, as well as being able to tell or detect if/when someone is near death or dying. kind of bratty and a little cocky.

azriel lock ; werewolf - gravekeeper ; quiet and usually unapproachable. it’s clear as day he has scars given how guarded and uptight he is. he doesn’t just let anyone near and his only comfort is found in tending to his work.

cole belcher ; metahuman (tarot personification of the devil) - drug dealer who’s addicted himself (both drugs & alcohol). wild man. will do the most stupidest things for laughs.

daichi nakajima ; metahuman ; highschool student , wannabe - hero! ; he’s a good person at heart- always aiming to do good by his community and people in his life. he actively fights for those in need and devotes a lot of his time bettering his surroundings.

ezra calhoun ; multi - verse but default he’s a recently turned vampire ; hot mess. flirts a lot but kinda cringe tbh. lovable in a weird way tho. ezra will cling and whine to you about his troubles and then proceed to spoil you in gifts for doing all of that.

gilbert clery ; witch specializing in dark magic; outcast , frowned down upon of due to the jobs he has no qualms to accept. torn between not wanting to live such a life yet being indebted to the god employing and blessing him with talent that goes beyond his natural capabilities. gilbert is an experience, invasive but desperate for attention.

grant schuler ; metahuman ; delivery man (has a delivery service!) ; awkward at heart but it’s mostly because he spent way too much time around his grandpa than other people. generally nice and usually the type to adjust how he is depending on the person.

haru kagami ; galah shifter, a standoffish man who keeps most newcomers into his life at a distance. appears rather harsh and cold but more lingers under what he tries to play off as. a little nervous and incredibly shy person deep down. it just comes out the exact opposite.

hongo hiroyo ; hongo hiroyo, 26 years old, cismale ; he/him, novelist, human horror novelist - sort of very graphic type stuff that lives a lot of his questionable “what if” scenarios, suave and a lil flirty but kind of a goof. tones it down in the public eye.

hongo natsu ; hongo natsu, cisfemale ; she/her, student. detests her brothers and family to an extent- mostly because she hates the fact she has to be mindful of things like their image upkeep or reputation. wants to enjoy her youth in full and be reckless but she can’t so she’s a bit bitter.

nitori ‘n’ kohone ; metahuman ; genderfluid individual who specializes in memory. some might even call him a dealer. extremely selfless and has shown he will do anything for the sake of freeing those with ache and discomfort.

kuma ; android, 1st of his class ; he usually helps out the elderly or does a lot of cleaning for hire ; a android programmed for the sake of being aid to those who cannot readily do so for themselves. he’s serious in nature and focuses on the most important things.

lawrence “sen” moores ; demon, leader of the litost foundation- an informant organization and one of four leaders of kalopsia- an up and coming crime syndicate. rather sly & can fall on the eccentric side of things. he’s nice until he’s not! do try to stay in his good favors otherwise he’ll likely unleash hell.

lucid ; an eyeball witch! silly! eccentric! excitable. loves taking on familiars and loves giving others a fright (innocently tho). she likes to knock a lot of wizards or witches down a peg due to being the belief that they’re all too full of themselves.

michigane nishikintoki ; ice dragon - old as fuck ; multi-verse but main setting michigane “do you wanna see the pictures i have of my daughters” nishikintoki. a very family orientated man who’s waiting for his flight to return; it’s been centuries since they’ve fallen but time is ticking for their rebirth. michigane is a dragon who’s lived a long time. he’s seen the worlds up and downs but really… all he wants is to live till the day the nishikintoki family prospers once more

rika sanada ; human, “influencer” but she hates the term & model. just a girl who posts photos and videos online about fashion or trends she’s into. big into makeup and collecting weird figures of various creatures or objects. obsessed with dark colors and loooves face masks. always seen grinning or staring off into space.

shinji yagyu ; human ; ex idol turned bassist for a band! ; shinji was the subject of a false scandal that blew up. ex member of a popular idol group and when they hit their peak - his downfall came. while the others prospered, shinji had lost everything he worked for. for a long time he remained hidden but in the end; his passion for music returned. much too scared to return as an idol he was wisked away by a band known as devoid.

sloan tsugane ; ???, security affiliated with litost. on his way to also working for sen in kalopsia yet his alliance remains mostly with litost & porphyrios. sort of acts as a secret informant to keep porphyryios updated on what sen does. a rather quiet & mysterious man himself. the only thing known about him is the fact he smells heavy of nicotine and that he has a prosthetic hand.

La serie animata, basata sulla commedia sentimentale di Yuki Kanamaru, comincerà ad andare in onda a partire dal 9 ottobre.

Al terzo anno di scuole superiori ha il via il corso obbligatorio di “Pratica di Coppia”, durante il quale gli studenti devono dimostrare di avere le competenze necessarie per vivere in armonia con un potenziale partner, il tutto valutato con una costante videosorveglianza.

Jiro Yakuin sperava di fare coppia con Shiori Sakurazaka, ma viene abbinato con l’esuberante Akari Watanabe, che invece sperava di finire con Minami Tenjin.

Le loro speranze sono doppiamente infrante quando proprio Shiori e Minami sono assegnati insieme. Così, a malincuore, decidono di cooperare per raggiungere la top ten della graduatoria, il che darebbe loro il diritto di scambiarsi i partner, se entrambe le coppie sono d'accordo. Dopo il primo bacio fra Jiro e Akari, però, le cose si fanno un po’ più complicate…

La serie animata, tratta dalla light novel fantasy slice of life di Yuka Tachibana, tornerà nel corso del 2023.

Sei, un’impiegata di 20 anni, viene trasportata improvvisamente in un mondo completamente nuovo. Il rituale che l'ha convocata aveva il fine di evocare una “Santa” che bandisse la magia nera, ma qualcosa è andato storto e sono comparse due persone invece di una. La serie animata, tratta dal nuovo manga di Hiro Mashima (Fairy Tail), tornerà in tv con la seconda stagione da aprile 2023.

La prima stagione di 25 episodi è disponibile in streaming su Netflix, anche doppiata in italiano.

Il giovane Shiki vive sul pianeta Granbell insieme ai robot che animano un vastissimo parco a tema. Un giorno arrivano due visitatori, i primi a mettere piede su Granbell da circa un secolo: Rebecca, una giovane creatrice di contenuti digitali, e il suo gatto blu Happy. I tre vanno subito d’accordo e diventano amici… Ancora non sanno che questo incontro cambierà i loro destini!

L’adattamento targato studio J.C. STAFF (DanMachi, Hi Score Girl, A Certain Scientific Railgun), è stato supervisionato da Shinji Ishihara (Fairy Tail, Log Horizon) e diretto da Yushi Suzuki.

Il regista, purtroppo, è deceduto poco prima della conclusione della trasmissione della serie e, al momento, non sappiamo chi verrà incaricato di sostituirlo nella realizzazione della seconda stagione.

Lovers of romantic historical costume dramas like the Merchant Ivory movies and the flood of Jane Austen adaptations will find much that's familiar in Kon Ichikawa's The Makioka Sisters. The lushly melancholy scene at the beginning of the film, in which the sisters walk through the blossoming cherry orchards in Kyoto, accompanied by an instrumental arrangement of Handel's aria "Ombra mai fu" from Serse, anticipates by two years the scenes in Tuscany in the Merchant Ivory version of E.M. Forster's A Room With a View (James Ivory, 1985) that are set to music like Puccini's "O mio babbino caro" and "Chi il bel sogno di Doretta." The plot consists of finding a husband for one of the sisters, Yukiko (Sayuri Yoshinaga), whose marital prospects are endangered by the unconventional behavior of her younger sister, Taeko (Yuko Kotegawa), just as Jane and Elizabeth Bennet's were by the scandalous behavior of their sister, Lydia, in Pride and Prejudice. And just as Austen's novels took place against the distant background of the Napoleonic wars, so do the Japanese military incursions into China -- the film begins in the spring of 1938 -- recede into the background of the domestic problems of the Makioka sisters. There are four Makioka sisters, the proud remnants of a family whose male line has died out, but the husbands of the two oldest sisters, Tsuruko (Keiko Kishi) and Sachiko (Yoshiko Sakuma), have adopted the family name and are helping rebuild its fortunes. The sisters adhere to the family tradition that older sisters must marry before younger, which Taeko, the youngest, rebels against. As the film begins, she has already tried to elope with the irresponsible Okuhata (Yonedanji Katsura), and although the family thwarted that attempt, the story made it into the newspapers, which incorrectly reported Yukiko as the one who tried to elope. The family demands a retraction, but the newspaper only issues a correction. Yukiko is beautiful but shy, and attempts by a matchmaker to arrange a marriage for her have fallen through. There is a wonderful scene in which the family goes to meet a suitor, who turns out to be a terrible but funny bore. Ichikawa, who co-wrote the screenplay with Shinya Hidaka, develops and individualizes the characters of the sisters and their husbands well, and stays just this side of romantic sentimentality. The cinematography by Kiyoshi Hasegawa makes the most of the colorful settings -- spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage -- and especially the beautiful costumes of Keiko Harada and Ikuko Murakami. Only occasionally does the note intrude that this is an ephemeral world, soon to be swept away by war.
