there's something particularly demented in the fact that, in del Toro's version of Pleasure Island, a land of disobedience is instead a fascist youth camp, similarly destructive and damaging to the psyche—only that this was a reality children had to face, making the sight only that more twisted. while the og Disney film ends with the kids as servants and slaves, these kids aren't even given the choice to live.
both versions had kids trying to act like adults, but while the original had kids transform due to acting out of line, Toro's aren't spared. they're given little opportunity to escape or think for themselves, and are instead killed both by fascism's cruel instruments and adult arrogance.

this is another one of the parts of ntlis that really stuck with me :((. part of why it irritates me when ppl overlook the role everyone in the band played to the music's themes and emotions and messages, not only gerard. they all put a lot of themselves into it. it's my chemical romance, not gerard way and the hormones - and lyrics aren't the only way for musicians to express things really deeply and earnestly.

i wonder if the members of mcr know we wake up before the sun to watch livestreams of their shows from all over the world. i wonder if they know we all freak out when a stream dies and work together to get back to watching. if they know we go on social media and into group chats and scream because they're playing someone's favorite song. i wonder if they know that we gather around our screens like a big strange family and excitedly analyze the drumheads and gee's outfits. do they know how much they're treasured? by how many? i hope they do. i hope they can feel that at every show there are thousands more people bundled up in blankets at home screaming along.

one of the many things i love about ray is he does everything with his whole body and spirit. smiles showing all his teeth, claps as he laughs, plays guitar and hugs with his whole body. he gives 110% percent to everything and its a probably exhausting way to live, but thats just the kind of guy he is and we get to see it and he does it for us. i would jump off a building if he asked me to
