Talking About Family || ACCEPTING

"Talking about somebody like Valo is easy. Tähtien Valo - is his name not simply wonderful? It's not exactly a totally traditional Misterican name, but it fits him quite nicely because he isn't exactly a traditional tutor.

See, Valo is a close personal friend of mine. Beyond that, any given royal tutor is considered part of the royal family, so if anything he is almost... sort of like an older brother, in a way? He's very softspoken, but don't let it fool you into thinking his passions are any less fiery than mine. He's also a kind man, and he's intelligent - the best linguist I know with the history knowledge to go right along with it.

Musicians and linguists go hand in hand, don't we? In some ways, Valo and I were just destined to be friends. Some of the older songs in our language don't sound quite right in more modern accents, so it takes understanding of those different sounds and how they've changed to be able to sing those passages as they were initially intended. And honestly, what better a person to ask for help with pronunciation than a patient lover of language and history? I have spent many hours talking back and forth with that man on any topic you can think of and he is one of my favorite people to spend an evening with.

Oh, and more about Valo - a great memory I have, I love just as much to sit quietly next to him. It's not often that he feels very well, so I'm more than happy to go play something soothing and quiet for him on those types of days or, funnily enough, keep him company in silence.

There are very few people I'd ever be comfortable in total silence with, and Valo is second on the list only behind my twin sister. I don't feel I need to fill the air with him. His heart speaks for itself, even when neither of us are making a sound. I am comfortable around him not because I know word-for-word what he's thinking like I do Sydän. No, rather I'm comfortable around him because he doesn't make me feel awkward at all. I suppose I just hope he doesn't feel lonely. I worry a lot about that. I hope also that Usva's teachers' comments don't get to him too badly - I've heard many nasty things about him and it's just about enough to make me want to scream. If they would just take a moment to know him, they'd see what I do - Valo is a brilliant, wonderful man and we are all absolutely blessed to have him around."

Opaali Liekki had a severe distaste for Nousi Aamunkoitto. Both of the mathematicians took their jobs seriously but neither really cared for the other's way of teaching. Both were strict in their methods and had no time for nonsense but Aamunkoitto was far more affectionate with his Liege than Liekki was. Aamunkoitto was known in the palace to be quick to cry and extra emotional when it came to his loved ones and Liekki this as a show of weakness and thought that Aamunkoitto should do a better job of distancing himself and focusing on the job.

He openly mocked the man often and criticized his style of teaching and his relationship to Pilvi, even though Liekki himself kept Usva at only so much of a distance. Liekki felt pressure constantly to make sure Usva's education was just as good as Pilvi's and often criticized the boy and his teachers for having to put in less effort because of Pilvi's status as the Child of White, and the Celestial Mother's Holy Vessel.

Despite Liekki's antagonism towards Aamunkoitto, Aamunkoitto hardly engaged with him. He only ever got invovled when comments about Pilvi were being said. Otherwise, he really could have cared less what the other man thought about him. However there was a certain historian that did care and was known for squaring off with Liekki often.

Aqua Sielu (@aquaticsoul ) and Sitriini Sinfonia did not like each other and found themselves becoming fast rivals as the Musical Professors and binds to the Eclipse Princes. Their teaching methods differ vastly and Sinfonia had been known to brush off young Pilvi's talents as blessings from the Celestial Mother.

He had no issue even saying as much to the boy himself, as well as making many other disparaging comments to Pilvi's binds as a whole. Sinfonia's mother, Pavala Tuli was bind to Lord Aurinko himself - as such Sinfonia was raised in the palace and wanted for not having the world handed to him on a silver platter his entire life. So he judged Pilvi's binds and Sielu, especially, harshly due to their humble backgrounds.

They argued constantly until one day Sinfonia's commentary crossed a line in concerns to young Pilvi and Sielu broke his nose without a second thought. The fight turned violent and it took several minutes to get Sielu off of Sinfonia in order to stop further damage. Terms between them soured further until terms soured between the princes and they were forced to do something about it.

Sitriini Sinfonia || Citrine Symphony

Sitriini Sinfonia is Prince Usva's Music instructor. He comes from a prestigious background and has attended possibly the best musical academies in the kingdom thanks to his mother, Palava Tuli being one of Lord Aurinko's instructors turned advisor.

His musical works have been heavily published and he's known for throughout the kingdom for his musical prowess. He truly is a master at his craft and he has the ego to match it. He has no time for nonsense and is a traditionalist for the way things should be handled and approached when it comes to teaching the craft.

He is strict and tolerates no backtalk from his charge, yet is not afraid to drop disparaging comments about other people within the space of the palace if he believes it is protecting the boy. He is not one for games and believes he is here to get a job done and the job comes before all else.

So he frowns heavily on the way Pilvi's teachers interact with the boy, believing that they give him special treatment and don't work as hard at their jobs as himself and his fellow instructors do for Prince Usva, since Prince Pilvi is the Child of White and already blessed by the Celestial Mother.

Opaali Liekki || Opal Flames

Opaali Liekki was Prince Usva's math and medical teacher. He is a cunning man and very straight to the point. He comes from a high educational background and has the pedigree to match it. He served as one of the many doctors on staff within the space of the Royal Palace but was strictly assigned to Prince Usva's care.

As a Misterican born to the color green, he doesn't have many friends and struggles to make them - because of this his personality can come off as cold and uncaring. He is calculated and not someone anyone would ever want to make an enemy of. He cares for his charge with fierce loyalty and he would go to any lengths to protect him. Even if those lengths would be frowned on by those around him.

Misterican Tradition || Life Oaths and Soul Binds

A Misterican Life Oath is a bond forged between two Mistericans that lasts for the duration of their lives. Life Oaths comes in two types -> service and marriage.

A Life Oath of Marriage is blessed by the Celestial Mother and sanctioned by an official of the Church. It is a pledge of partnership (queer platonic or romantic) between two Mistericans to spend their rest of their lives with one another. It involves a ceremonial dance of bonding between the Mistericans in question and a mixing of their mists to create Gems of Commitment. These stones are much like Soul Gems but born of both their mists instead of just one. They can be worn as rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, etc - but while the Life Oath is in place they simply must be worn. A break in a Misterican Life Oath of Marriage must be processed through the church and not the other side of the Government.

A Life Oath of Service is a bit different because it is an Oath that is made between two Mistericans but it is made for one to be in service of the other. Misterican Service Oaths are what are known in Misterican Society as soul binds, so they should be discussed in depth before committing to one and the details of the arrangement should be clearly laid out before either party moves forward on such a commitment.

A Soul Bind is the processes of two Mistericans mixing their Mists together in order to create a set Gems of Commitment. These gems are worn by the Misterican in service and the Misterican being served. Now I need to make this clear - that a Soul Bind is always 100% voluntary and cannot be made through any form of force. If the Mist of the involved parties is not given of free will, the bind will fail and the crystals will not be forged. Should doubt be contained within either Mist at the time of creation, the bind will fail to forge entirely.

Once two Mistericans are bound, the Misterican being served (or the reigning King) is the only one who can release the bind but once it has been done - those two Mists can never be bound again for any reason. There is a small ritual and an incantation that must be performed by the owner of the bind (or the King) in order for the bind to be released.

A Misterican being served is allowed to bind their soul to more than one person, as more than one Misterican is allowed to serve them but the Misterican in service cannot bind their soul to anyone else as an act of service, so long as their current service bond is in place. Doing so would be a breech in contract and the Life Oath and Soul Bond would ultimately be released by the owner.

Should the bind break due to the end of one of their lives, one of two things will happen. If the Misterican in service dies, the Gem of Commitment forged of their mist will fade in color but remain intact. If the Misterican being served dies, the Gem of Commitment will break thus ending the living Misterican's Oath to them and severing the bind they had to that Misterican's soul.

Gems of Commitment for Service Oaths can also be worn as any type of jewelry but they are a bit different when it compares to Marriage Oaths in a way that they would create a set. Meaning:

Any Soul Bind of service to Lord Aurinko would have been worn as a ring by both the King and whomever is in service to him.

All Soul Binds by way of Service are the same type of gem.

Example: All Soul Binds as Service to Prince Pilvi were worn as stud earrings. All Soul Binds as Service to Prince Usva were drop pendant necklaces.

** Gems of Commitment that are soul binds to the Royal Family contain Misterica's Kingdom Crest within them as a way to mark that that Misterican in question is in service to the Royal Family ->

A set is formed and they are to be worn by the Served and the Serving. The only exception to this is Oaths made to Mistericans who are currently children - meaning they would wear their Gems of Commitment upon becoming adults and their set would be kept safe for them when they come of age to receive them.

There are a few kinds of Life Oaths when it comes to service and they are all sanctioned by the King himself. They are:

Royal - Knight Life Oaths

Royal - Teacher Life Oaths

Service to the Church Life Oaths

Service to the Crown Life Oaths

Only the King (and the holder) can sever these types of Oaths before their allotted time is due.

So of them work our way through them one by one to explain them a little better.

Let's start with a Royal-Knight Life Oath.

This is the Oath between A Royal and their personal bodyguard. The way this would work is that the Knight in question would be bound to their respective Royal until one of them dies. This can function between any Royal and their Knight. King, Queen, Prince or Princess - it's still a Royal-Knight Life Oath.

Most of the time Royal - Knight Life Oaths are forged when the Royal is born so it is literally for the duration of the Royal's full life span. The only exclusion to this is for any Royal who marries in to the family. Meaning, A Knight is not just assigned this position as a job but instead takes on the duty of protecting and serving their respective Royal as a lifetime commitment.

It then becomes that Knight's job to see to the care and the protection of that Royal for as long as the Life Oath stays in place. Knights who take Life Oaths at the birth of a member of the Royal Family have that child put into their charge and they become both responsible for them but also expected to help care for them. This is not a typical - only here for protection - kind of deal. No, Life Oath Knights will both protect and care for their respective Royal like their children, as they becomes their charges when the Soul Bind is formed.

And remember Soul Binds are 100% voluntary - so the Knights are fully aware of what they're signing up for when they take on these kinds of positions. They understand that this is more than just protection duty. Therefore, the Royal they are bound to takes the highest position in their lives and nothing is to come before them. The Royal they are serving's words are the highest in the land to them for this reason.

Meaning anything Prince Pilvi would ask of Revon (his personal guard) would override anything asked of Revon by Lord Aurinko, if such a thing works against the best interest and well being of Prince Pilvi. Despite Aurinko holding the throne, Revon's oath binds him to Pilvi - so for Revon - Pilvi's word is the highest in the land and no one's comes above it.

This is true of all types of Service Life Oaths. The one who holds the Oath, outranks anyone around who would attempt to over rule them.

This also means however that it is the Knight's job to do whatever is in the Royal's best interest even if that means going against their respective Royal's wishes - if that Royal is in their charge. A Royal would stop being in their charge upon becoming an adult, as they can take care of themselves. Being in someone's charge holds the requirements of being both responsible for that person and taking care of them.

The next kind of Service Oath would be a Royal-Teacher Life Oath.

Misterican royals are taught a variety of subjects through their schooling years but they are taught by private teachers. Those teachers teach that subject for the entirety of the Royal's schooling career.

So basically -> 1 professor teaching the same subject every year but they just increase the difficulty as time progresses, and because of this teachers who take on positions with a Royal as their pupil commit to Life Oaths to their pupil. Many Royal Tutors go on to become advisors to the Royal they serve in future years once schooling is completed and the royal in question assumes the throne.

These Life Oaths bind Teacher and Pupil in the same fashion as other Life Oaths do - only broken when one of them dies - OR they can be released by the King if and only if outstanding circumstances apply. The Holder can also release it but it is highly advised that it is discussed with the reigning King before doing so as once the bind is released it cannot be reforged for any reason.

These means that the Teacher is taking an oath to put their student and that student's learning and wellbeing before all else. This means that their pupil is to become the most important relationship they have in their lives because their pupil will come before all else and much in the same way as other Life Oaths of service work - the one they are bound to's word is the most important to them. Their pupil's word would outrank any around them as long as it is in their pupil's best interest.

This brings us to Service Oaths to the Church.

These are different in the sense that they are not made to a particular Misterican but instead to a certain faction - in this case to The Church. They are are different because they are not soul binds, and no Gems of Commitment are created in order to uphold one of these Oaths. There is a ceremony that is performed between the Misterica and The Church and they are the only service oath that is sanctioned by The Church instead of the King.

It is committed one's self to the Celestial Mother fully and how one becomes a working member of Misterica's Church. These individuals would answer directly to the reigning Piipsa and the Higher members of the Religious Council.

Service Oaths to the Crown are much the same, in the same sense that they are not soul binds - but they are still sanctioned by the King. This is a Misterican pledging their life's service to the Royal Family and many of the palace workers hold such an Oath. The difference between these Oaths and a Soul Bind - is they do not end upon the death of the one they are serving but instead move on to the next generation. Service Oaths to the Crown can be generational for both the served and the ones serving.

Families have gone into the aspect of serving the Royal Family generation after generation - but even despite this - these service oaths are still 100% voluntary and are never expected that just because someone in your family served the Royal Family means you would too, but due to the way the Royal Family treats those who serve them directly - there are not many who ever wish to step away from their position of service. (Considering that the Royal Family treats their workers like family and pays them handsomely. )

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ Now we move into when I said in the previous post that covered Pilvi, that "Nicknames like "Snow Cloud" and "Maamuna" became their own entity entirely."

We're going to be talking about Snow Cloud and Maamuna because they are basically the same person, who just goes by two different names. I say this because the expectations that were placed upon these names were largely the same to that means the "box" within Pilvi's brain that organizes himself from the inside his mind is labeled with both names.

Those names just answer to different people.

Snow Cloud was the name that was gifted to him by his mother, and for most of his life - his relationship with her was excessively close. She next to never called him by his given name and she only did so when she was upset in some way. The degree of that anger showing in whether she called him 'Pilvi' or 'Valkoinen Pilvi'. So that means when he heard the name 'Snow Cloud' from her, all was well.

Snow Cloud was not bound to religious or royalty duties and as such was allowed to relax. Snow Cloud is a gentle child that is eager to please and is excessively soft. He is a being that wants to create and show his loved ones care and concern through the use of his creations.

By this, I mean song and dance and plucking his mist. Snow Cloud is beyond creative and he loves to give to his loved ones with this skill of his in any way he can. When Kuu would address him in such a way it meant that she was happy with him and he was getting a loving mother in response. He didn't have any social or religious obligations to fill beyond being her son.

He was allowed to be himself and not all the other titles that were stacked on top of him (as long as he could pick them back up again at a moment's notice.) Snow Cloud is still duty bond as a member of the royal family, but less so because Snow Cloud meant that Kuu could see his age - which always seemed like something that Aurinko was blind to.

On the flips side of this exists Maamuna (which means Puffball) in Misterican and this name was given to him by his music teacher, Opettaja Aqua Sielu.

Sielu was a massively important person in Pilvi's life because he let the boy be himself truly to his core and he did that by naming him "Maamuna." The two met when Pilvi was just five years old, in which Sielu made the Life Oath to him and performed the soul bind with him in order to engage in a pact of service to him. By all rights, Sielu would be considered one of Pilvi's vassals but he hardly treats the man that way.

Sielu once told him "I don't expect you to be anything more than yourself when you're in my classroom, Maamuna" and in that moment it allowed Pilvi to drop all the weight that rested on his shoulders as a Religious Icon and the Crowned Prince of the Kingdom. He simply became just a boy to him and he was allowed to relax and cry and make mistakes and have 'poor form'.

To be 'Maamuna' is his escape from everything that everyone else tells him he is. Maamuna was his one time he got to be as normal of a Misterican as he could excluding his status of holding the color White in his mist. Maamuna means he is just like everyone else and he doesn't have to uphold the holy perfection that is expected out of him at nearly every turn and breath he took.

He was allowed to 'slack off' and to prioritize rest over work. He could pour his heart into his passions over his work and he could chase after the things that really sparked a fire within him. In turn, that means those passions that brought his soul to life could be shared through Maamuna and Snow Cloud to show the world how he sparkled and his loved ones how much he could shine with the light of the Full Moon itself.

Maamuna and Snow Cloud were almost an escape from his reality in a sense because Pilvi's reality was filled with expectation and obligation and when he was one of these names, he didn't have to worry about any of that. He could go sleep in the clouds if he wanted to and he wouldn't get scolded for it.

He could be a Misterican and nothing else and nothing was more precious to him than that.

More of Music Man: Orange Edition

It's about time I showed Usva's teachers /binds some love, huh? Honestly I never thought I'd get to this point with this man because Sinfonia's such a fucking asshole some days, and I mean grade a piece of shit but he gets better. He gets humbled. He started out an asshole but life makes him learn.

He really does have a good heart, he just also can have an ego and he needed his glass house to get shattered a little bit or his nose fucking broken Wonderland changes a person, y'know?

Opettaja Valo is Valkoinen Pilvi's History and Language teacher. He's a complete an utter history nerd and is more than happy to learn from his students as well as teach them. He's fluent in multiple languages including Windarian and loves learning them. He was born with medical complications that make his body little weaker than those around him but he still loves to teach and to learn.

Valo is patient and understanding - choosing to take a softer approach to his student(s) and stopping to take the time to listen to and understand him. He's grown so attached to the boy, he considers him family as well as his pupil. Valo is soft spoken, but more than willing to stand his ground for what he believes in. He gets into arguments with Aamunkoitto about what the correct way to handle Pilvi is.

Despite this he's been friends with Palo and Aamunkoitto for many years, long before the three of them were employed by the Royal Family and assigned to be Valkoinen Pilvi's teachers.

Misterican Tradition || Soul Binds and Life Oaths (2)

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ When a Misterican Royal binds their soul to another Misterican it places that Misterican in service to them for the duration of their lives. This is called a Soul Bind.

It is common for a Misterican Royal or a Misterican in service to refer to the other half of their "contract" as their bind.

So in the case of Kumo ->

Kumo would be the bind to ->

- Sielu

- Sydän

- Valo

- Aamunkoitto

- Palo

- Kukka

- Revon

As they are all in service to him. They would all call him everything from "My Liege" to "Your Highness" to "Highness" to "My Bind" even if "My Bind" would only be when referring to him when speaking to a another person.

Of them, Revon, he would be considered Kumo's "Prime Bind" as he was the first of Kumo's binds and he holds the position of caretaker -> charge with Kumo. So he would be the "leader" of sorts to the rest of Kumo's binds, however many he ended up having. Kumo's binds could also be -by more human standards - referred to as Kumo's vassals.

Kumo = Liege -> holder of the contract

Binds = Vassals -> the Mistericans under contract

I'm talking about his binds again because as a Misterican Royal when casting such a contract, the Royal in question mixes their Mist or Soul's Breath with the Contracted to create a "Gem of Commitment".

Kira, you've explained this before and yes, I know but I don't think I was quite literal enough. When Kumo (and every other royal in his family) cast those binds, by mixing his Mist with another's Mist - he literally mixed their souls. Every one of the earrings that were cast as Gems of Commitment to Valkoinen Pilvi contains a small fragment of Valkoinen Pilvi's soul.

And it's purely Valkoinen Pilvi's soul because he cast them at the oldest of five years old so he was not made vessel to Lady Tiamat yet. It wasn't even close to time for the ritual. He didn't become her vessel until he was thirteen.

So those binds, Kumo's earrings, Kiri's necklaces, Aurinko's rings -> they contain a piece of their souls as they were mixed with their mist and that of their prospective vassal.

The thing here is also that these connections cannot be made unless both parties are absolutely willing and on board with the idea. Because of this, Soul Binds are not usually forged until on is at least seven or eight years of age, in which the Misterican Royal (yet a small child) can understand that they are forging a lifetime contract.

Pilvi (Kumo) was the special case in this instance, and the boy managed to cast a bind with Revon Tulet when he was only weeks old and that just showed how comfortable the newly born prince felt with the knight. It is partly why no one in the kingdom would dare separate the two. He later continued with what was considered the impossible and bound with the rest of his binds at five years old.

So the point that I'm making here, is that there are fragments of his soul floating around Wonderland in the form of his Soul Bind gems as every time a bind was created by any Misterican Royal, a set of two was created. So for Aurinko - two rings, Usva (Kiri) - two necklaces, and for Pilvi (Kumo) - 1 set of earrings was forged.

Misterican Royals live to serve the populace and are known for dropping their horns / bowing to the public they serve - so they have Soul Binds to help support them. Every public official needs help, and you could think of a Misterican Royal's Soul Binds as their specialized team to do just that.
