I’d like to request an imagine where the female reader is a baker and Rooster’s girlfriend. She owns a bakery called The Slice is Right (it’s a pun. The Slice is Right = The Price is Right). She has a YouTube channel where she gets her Twitter followers to vote on what should be added to the menu and she bakes the winning vote and gets Rooster to try it and give his opinion.
Dating Rooster and Owning a Bakery Would Include...
masterlist
Tumblr media
Of all of the people that he’s met over the course of his tumultuous, chaotic life, Rooster never expected to fall in love with a baker
He’d always assumed he’d charm some actress or supermodel (so he bragged to Hangman, at least)
However, when he accidentally stumbled by your bakery one evening and saw your pretty face through the glass, Rooster was smitten at first sight
Even if he fell quickly, Rooster took his time in getting you to fall in love with him, too
He used to stop by every chance he got just to see you smile
No one could resist that charm forever, certainly not you, so when he asked you out on a date at last, you said no without a shred of hesitation
One date turned into another, and now you can’t imagine your life without him
Neither can your YouTube followers– you’ve developed a brand for having your followers vote on recipes you should try, then offering up the final products to Rooster as a definitely unbiased test subject
He’s just happy to try more of your baking and get to spend time with you too
You’re good friends with all of the Dagger Squad, as Rooster couldn’t resist showing you off to the rest of his friends the first chance you got
Your baked goods are now a staple at Top Gun– Rooster swears Cyclone only ever warmed up to him because you gave him cookies
And, when Dagger Squadron had an end-of-year holiday dinner, everyone insisted that you make a holiday dessert
How could they celebrate without your fine creations?
This quick approval makes perfect sense to anyone who knows you, Rooster says the only thing sweeter than your pastries is you
So he might be a charmer, so what? You love your boyfriend, and he loves you
That, certainly, is something worth savoring :))
requested by @thornyrose463, i hope you enjoy!

Word Count: 1,825
Category: Angst, Fluff
Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
"Alright, you're all good Bob. Just take it easy on your wrist for a little while, and you should heal up just fine."
"Thanks," said Bob, giving me a smile as he hopped off my exam table. Life was never boring as Top Gun's chief medical officer, but thankfully today I hadn't had to deal with any serious injuries. Just a slightly sprained wrist from a little too much dog fight football.
"Sure thing." I headed for the door with Bob, since I didn't have anyone else waiting for medical attention. Jake Seresin, the most arrogant pilot at Top Gun (except maybe Mav), was currently up flying, and since I didn't have any pressing work to attend to I wanted to listen in on how he was doing.
"Hey!" Bradley, my older brother, waved as soon as he saw me and Bob enter the room. A few aviators were gathered around, listening to the comms between pilots still in the air. "You missed my run."
"Oh no, I'm so sad. How will I ever recover?"
Bradley just rolled his eyes at me as I sidled up next to him beside the radio. I could hear Jake's voice, strategizing with his wingman and tracking the instructor's positions. I tuned in, imagining I could see his plane as it flew across the sky.
"So you're in here listening carefully to the radio for Seresin but not your brother?"
"Shut up," I said, shoving him back much harder than necessary. I wasn't sure if he knew that he'd found some truth in terms of my feelings for Jake, but I never wanted him to know. "I heal injuries for a living, and I'm just as skilled at causing injuries."
"Don't you have some kind of oath to do no harm?"
"You're my exception."
I gave him a fake sweet smile as he narrowed his eyes at me. He opened his mouth, probably to make a bad attempt at a comeback, but he stopped short at the sounds of distress coming from the radio.
"Hangman, watch out!"
"Bird strike, bird strike!"
My heart stopped in my chest. The room went dead silent, everyone freezing and all conversation coming to a stop as we listened to the radio.
"Hangman to Tower, Hangman to Tower. I need to come in for an immediate emergency landing."
"Copy. Just stay calm, we've got the runway open for you."
"Alright. I'm coming around."
The silence stretched on, hanging over the room like a heavy blanket. I twisted my fingers, fidgeting, trying to dispel the nervous energy. He was going to be fine. He had to be.
I saw Bradley glancing at me out of the corner of my eye, but I ignored him. I kept my eyes and attention glued on the radio. I wasn't sure if I wanted the silence to end or not, but I didn't get a choice as the radio crackled to life again.
"Tower, it's no good, I'm losing speed and altitude too fast. I'm gonna have to eject."
I felt like I'd been hit by a train. Wordlessly, I reached out one hand, and Bradley quickly took it. He stood tall and strong beside me, his face clouded while my world spiraled out of control. This could not be happening.
"He's gonna be fine," Bradley muttered. I barely heard him. It sounded like we were underwater, and the room had started to spin.
Bradley and I had lost our dad this way, when the canopy to his fighter jet didn't detach the way it was supposed to. We'd both been pretty young, but I swear I remembered every awful moment of our mother coming to break the news, of Mav explaining just what had happened and how sorry he was with tears in his eyes. When Bradley had decided to follow our dad's path into becoming a pilot, my number one nightmare had been losing him the same way. Now I might be forced to live that reality with Jake instead.
The silence stretched on as Bradley and I stood, shoulder to shoulder, waiting with everyone else in the room. A moment later, I heard Mav's voice over the radio.
"Canopy looked good and I saw a chute."
Mav continued to call out his position for Jake's recovery team, but I barely heard it as relief crashed like a wave through my ears. I wouldn't be completely relieved until he walked through the door, but at least it sounded like he was going to be just fine.
"It's okay," Bradley muttered, pulling me into a quick hug and mumbling into my hair. "It's okay."
I nodded, still feeling a little shaky as I gave him a quick hug before pulling back.
"I need to get to my exam room. Even if he's perfectly healthy, he's gonna need a checkup to make sure nothing's wrong."
"Do you want me to come with you?"
I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to force myself to calm down a little. I shook my head.
"That's alright. I'm okay."
Bradley didn't look totally convinced, but I managed to shake him anyway with a promise to call him if I needed him. I focused on taking deep breaths and trying to calm myself down for the walk back to my exam room. It sort of worked, although I literally paced the room waiting for Jake to be brought in. When I finally heard shuffling outside the door, I quickly crossed the room and flung it open.
"I told you, I'm fine!"
Jake stood in the hallway on his own two feet, wrestling with one of the men who'd brought him in. The guy didn't budge despite Jake's protest, but I decided to step in before things could escalate.
"Jake, get in the exam room."
His head snapped up to face me, but despite his momentary surprise, he didn't back down.
"I'm gonna tell you the same thing I told them, I'm fine. I don't need an exam-"
"You ejected from your plane. You might be walking, but that's no grantee you don't have an injury just waiting to show itself once the adrenaline fades. So come on. The less you fight it, the sooner you can leave and go do whatever it is you want to do so badly."
He fixed me with a look, but I just crossed my arms and stared right back. Finally, once he realized I wasn't going to back down, he sighed.
"Fine. But if I miss somebody shooting Maverick down, I'm gonna be pissed."
I resisted the urge to reply as Jake walked past me, and I followed him into the exam room. My brain still didn't completely believe he was sitting here, in front of me, apparently completely healthy. The adrenaline dump made my hands shake a little as I checked Jake's heartrate and went through a few more basic checks.
"Are you sure you don't feel any pain?" I asked while I worked. I'd already asked him twice before, but I wanted to keep checking in case his answer changed, especially as any potential shock wore off.
"For the third time, yes. Quit hovering already."
I stepped back, hands on my hips as I fixed Jake with a look. He seemed to be perfectly happy and relaxed in the wake of his dangerous adventure, but I was still wrestling with the thought that my worst nightmare almost came true, so I wasn't in the mood to be gentle.
"Jake, it is my job to check you out and make sure you're not injured with something that's going to come back to bite you the second you're out the door. So sit still, stop complaining, and let me do my job!"
"...Since when do you care so much?"
"Excuse me?"
"Not about your job, but... about me. You seem like you care a lot. I thought you hated me for all the shit I give your brother."
I sighed. "No. I mean, sure, sometimes it's annoying and sometimes it's a little over the line, but... no. I don't hate you, Jake."
He didn't really respond, which left me to finish my exam without resistance. Thankfully, he was perfectly healthy, not a scratch on him. Still, that didn't stop my hands from shaking as I lowered my stethoscope. I started to pull away, but Jake caught my hand and stopped me.
"Hey, you're shaking." I closed my eyes and let out a long breath. I'd done so well hiding it until now. "What's wrong?"
I opened my eyes to find Jake staring at me, his bright blue eyes full of unusual concern. I sighed.
"You know mine and Bradley's history, Jake. I lost my dad to the same thing that landed you here today. I've spent every single day since Bradley joined the navy terrified that I would lose him the same way, and then when I heard you on the radio, dropping out of the sky and being forced to eject..." I took a deep breath, steeling myself, and then looking back at Jake. "I've had feelings for you for a little while now, Seresin, but when I heard that call? I just about had a heart attack at the thought of losing you."
Jake huffed a little, disbelieving laugh, then tugged me closer to him. My heart stuttered in my chest as Jake grinned.
"I've had feelings for you for a while now, too," he said. A smile pulled its way onto my face, but a moment later, Jake's expression sobered. "Although I have to warn you, sweetheart, if we do something about those feelings... you're not gonna be any less relaxed going about your day since I'm going to be up in the air all the time."
I sighed and closed my eyes, leaning in to rest my head against Jake's forehead. He still held my hand tight, giving it a little reassuring squeeze.
"I know," I finally said. "But... I'm willing to take that risk. It's worth it to me. And it's not like I wouldn't be worried about you anyway."
Jake pulled away, the grin firmly back in place as he looked at me. "I'm glad I'm worth it to you."
Without another word, he leaned back in, this time for a kiss that I'd thought about more than once (and apparently so had he). We stayed that way for a long time, savoring the moment and each other as my hands wandered over Jake's shoulders, reassuring myself that this was real. He was okay, and now we were both better than okay.
When we finally pulled apart, Jake still had that ridiculous cocky grin on his face as he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me tighter to his chest.
"Your brother is gonna hate this," he said gleefully. I just laughed and lightly smacked his chest. He was right, my brother was going to hate this, but Bradley would just have to deal with it. Now that I had Jake, I didn't plan to let him go any time soon.

Only Exception | Robert “Bob” Floyd
Pairing: Robert “Bob” Floyd x Fem! Mitchell! Reader, Rooster x Fem! Mitchell Reader (platonic)
Summary: Y/N Mitchell swore to herself that she would never allow herself to date or get involved with anyone from any branch of the military. After worrying about her father, the past few years, she knew that she never wanted to experience that worry for a significant other. After her father gets ordered back to California, she may just meet the one that ruins all her plans.
Request: Yes | No
Warning(s): swearing, slight angst, mentions of sexual material, top gun related themes, Top Gun: Maverick spoilers! Also timelines probably won’t add up for this imagine.
note from me: this is my first top gun one-shot and I am not sure how I feel about it. This may end up being really long or multiple parts. I personally wrote this because Bob is one of my favorite characters. I don’t feel like he gets enough love but that is just my opinion. I have always been one to like the characters who are more quiet and shy.
I have watched the original Top Gun multiple times (I thank my mother because she loves the original) and I’ve went out with my college friends and watched TGM four times now (i know). With this being said, I still do not know much about the navy or such. However, reader will have a nursing profession because I do know about that. I am currently a nursing student so... just so I can talk about one job that I actually know about.
Update: this is now a mini series! *Not Edited*
Series Masterlist: Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four.
Gif NOT mine, all credits to owner/maker.

The wind blew through the y/c/h girl’s hair as she drove down the street. She had a feeling that she knew the exact reason her father had been called back into town. It was obvious that he had a job here, or else he wouldn’t be back. She also knew that there was a reason that her father had made her wait until Penny called her to tell her that her father was back in town. It did irritate the girl, that her own blood wouldn’t tell her that he was back. She would have appreciated a text or phone call instead of relying on his ex-girlfriend to tell his own daughter.
pushing her anger and irritation to the side for this moment, she pulled into a parking space. The hard deck was already crowded and there was no doubt that more people would pile in as the night progressed. It was the best bar in town for the Navy folk and everyone in between. Y/N took a deep breathe, what was she preparing to hear, she wasn’t sure, yet she knew that she would need to prepare herself for whatever the outcome may be. Walking through the doors of the infamous bar sent her memories skyrocketing. She had been here many times, lately she had neglected the place due to her hectic work schedule. Y/N made sure to ignore the looks that some of the guests sent her or the obvious man-whores making comments. Luckily, the girl had inherited some of Pete’s attitude, meaning part of his cockiness rubbed off on her.
“Y/N,” Penny greeted with a smile causing Maverick to look over to his daughter. “Can I get you anything?”
Y/N gave a light smile to Penny as she sat on the barstool beside her dad, “No thanks, I have an early shift in the morning.” She dismissed as she heard cheering and chaos behind her. The girl rolled her eyes as she slightly turned her head noticing a tall blond-haired person in uniform. “Top gun students?” the younger girl spoke up as she waited for Penny or her father to answer her question.
Maverick cleared his throat before speaking, “Top Gun graduates.” He corrected his daughter making the younger girl turn to her father with a knowing look. “I’m teaching them, training them for a mission.”
“The best of the best?” Y/N asked turning back to look over at the pool table. She caught the obnoxious attitude of the two huddled around the table and the girl who seemed to be reconciling what he had started.
“Yeah.” Pete sighed. He knew that his daughter wasn’t dumb. She knew that if her father was training graduates that the mission had to be dangerous. She had been scared for her father enough to know that it was the case.
“Lovely.” She muttered before the bar doors opened and in walked her old best friend, she hadn’t seen him in years. The aviator glasses laid on his face until he pulled them off and let them hang on the neck of his white tank top. The Hawaiian shirt laid over top of his white tank unbuttoned. His style matching his father’s, that the girl had noticed in pictures that her father had kept. Y/N let a small smile grace her features knowing that her best friend had went through life doing what he wanted. She knew he deserved it; he deserved some sort of happiness. “I assume you knew he would be here?” she spoke up as she turned back to her father.
Penny gave the older man a knowing look causing him to sigh, “Yeah, trust me… it’s not my first option.” He added making his daughter roll her eyes. She knew that Bradley would never appear ready enough or old enough to please her dad. Simply because he didn’t even want him in the Navy, the same way he begged his daughter to have no interest in the military. He explained how he didn’t want his own daughter or Bradley to be a part of this, how he wanted a better life than this. Y/N knew there was a deeper story though. She just knew when to stop prying her dad for answers.
“Would he ever be ready to you?” Y/N asked her father giving him a knowing look. She watched as her father deflated as he looked for an answer to the girl’s question. She knew the answer already, she just wanted to see what her old man would say. Bradley had been angry with her father for some time now, to be fair, Bradley hadn’t been Y/N’s best friend for many years. Because of their ten-year age gap, y/n was more like his little sister. They had reconnected when she was working as a travel nurse, and she happened to have a contract at a hospital close to where he was working at the time. That was a couple years ago when she was a fresh nurse.
Instead of waiting for a reply she knew wasn’t coming, she got up out of her seat and made her way over to the group of pilots. Bradley was in a conversation with the only girl pilot in their group before Y/N interrupted. “Well, I’ll be damned, if it isn’t Bradley Bradshaw.” She spoke up causing the group of Pilots to turn their attention to her. Y/N Crossed her arms over herself as a smirk made its way onto her face.
“Y/N?” Bradley’s voice sounded surprised to say the least. Within the next minute Y/N was wrapped up in a tight hug from her previous best friend. “It’s been so long, how’ve you been?” he asked quietly as they slowly parted from the hug.
“Besides getting a new job and living here for the next couple years, not much.” The Mitchell girl shrugged as she looked over and noticed that the two were the center of attention. “I’m sorry to interrupt.” She added causing her friend to turn and look at his fellow pilots.
Bradley placed his arm over her shoulder before turning more towards Phoenix. “This is Y/N, I basically grew up with her.” He announced as a few of the pilot’s murmured greetings and went back to what they were doing. Natasha was the first to walk over and introduce herself, insisting that the newbie call her Phoenix.
“What’s a beautiful girl like you doing being friends with Rooster?” The tall obnoxious blond-haired person from earlier spoke up. He wore a smirk on his face, one that Y/N knew. It was common for the same type of boys to have that overconfident smirk about them. “I’m sure I could show you a better time.”
Y/N rolled her eyes as she eyed the man across the pool table, his cue laid on his relaxed shoulders. Almost like he was enjoying being her center of attention, yet he wasn’t getting the attention he wanted from the girl. “I don’t get involved with any branch of the military,” Y/N announced with her eyes narrowed in slits. If she hadn’t remembered the bar sign, she would have added another smart remark. However, the girl didn’t feel like buying a round for everyone in the bar tonight.
He muttered a reply with a smirk before going back to playing pool with the other boys. Before the guy, who she learned was Hangman challenged Rooster in pool. Y/N rolled her eyes but stepped away, she turned to go back towards the bar before noticing one of the men that she didn’t talk to yet. She didn’t want to just walk up to him and be blunt or seem too interested in new people. He stuck out to her though, mainly because he didn’t seem to be cocky like the others, he was quieter and seemed to keep to himself. That was rare to find in people like him. Even Rooster was cocky about some things. Pushing her annoying thoughts away, she walked over to the unknown man and leaned against the wall next to him. “Hey,” She started causing him to look around a moment before turning his gaze up to meet hers. Since he was sitting on a stool, and she was standing. “We haven’t met yet, y/n.” she introduced as she held her hand out.
The guy reached his hand out and shook hers, “Bob.” He mumbled. Y/N gave him a small smile before he released her hand. The girl went to say something else before Penny rang the bell and everyone started chanting. Hangman and his fellow pilots were quick to get to the bar. The girl knew what was happening, whoever had gotten the bell rang on them was being tossed out of the bar.
“So, how do you like being a pilot?” Y/N asked bob over all the noise. Her attention was on the boy with glasses in front of her, until she noticed the biker jacket on the guy that Hangman and his friends were throwing out. “Oh, shit.” The girl mumbled to herself.
“I’m actually- “Bob started until he noticed the look on her face. She looked worried for a moment before she stood up and gave the man apologetic eyes.
“I have to go, but I hope we can finish this conversation sometime.” She told him honestly with a smile before pushing herself off the wall and out of the bar. Y/N left without wishing anyone a goodbye as she went outside to make sure her father was okay after being thrown out.
⁂⁍
Y/N was pissed, that was the best way to describe what the woman was feeling at this very moment. She had shown up to her shift early this morning and had a wonderful day, until lunch break. Too many things happened in her life currently. Someone had called and reported her for no reason, she tried to tell her bosses that it was more than likely a family member of the woman she had been taking care of. The daughter of the woman was a pain to deal with every time she came to visit. She got mad if the nurses weren’t there to get Ice chips right when the call light goes off. Y/N could understand if it was an emergency but reporting her over delayed ice chips or delayed water refills was a joke. She was busting her ass for her patients because she knew they deserved the best.
“Y/N, you’re off work early.” Penny greeted cautiously. Never had the Mitchell girl came into the bar when her four shifts in a row started. She also never came to the bar in her scrubs which is what she was currently wearing. “Can I get you something?”
“Something strong please.” Y/N muttered while taking a seat at the bar. Her hand was holding her head up as her elbow rested on the bar that Penny had just wiped off. She knew that her father would be done teaching his first class today and he would be here. That’s when she would have to face the music and tell her dad the cold hard truth. “Thank you.” She thanked the older woman as she laid a glass in front of her.
Just as she had predicted, her father came into the bar an hour or two after she got there. She hated having to admit to her father what happened. It wasn’t like she couldn’t live, they had to pay her contract that she signed out, but it was the fact that she had lost her job. This job had guaranteed her in one place for the next three years.
“Y/N, you’re off work early.” Pete stated as he took the seat next to his daughter. Penny laid a beer in front of him as he thanked her before turning back to his daughter. “I thought your first day was a 16?”
Y/N sighed as tears welled up in her eyes, her gaze dropped down to her drink as she tried her best to blink the tears away. “They let me go.” She mumbled as she took a deep breath. “They paid out my contract and got rid of me.” Y/N picked up her glass and took a drink before sitting it back down.
“Did they mention what happened?” Pete asked his daughter softly. He hated that this happened to his daughter, especially when he knew how hard she worked.
“Some daughters of one of my patients called to report me three separate times. The same old asshat of a Karen.” Y/N stated as she rubbed her eyes to get rid of the tears. She was tired and upset, more than she had ever been in her life. “It was the same ones who got mad over ice chips and drinks being delayed. That’s why I got reported. I swear that was the only reason.” She promised. All the girl could do was feel disappointed in herself. She wasn’t sure what to do, she knew that she had to be looking for a new job to survive.
Penny gave the girl an apologetic look before leaning over the bar in between the daughter and father duo. “I can let you work here until you find another nursing job.” Penny offered. Y/N gave her a thankful smile but declined her offer. Afterall, she didn’t study for four years just to let her degree go to waste.
“I could try to get you an interview in our med unit on base.” Her father offered knowing that his daughter wanted nothing to do with the navy boys that would see her the most. He was against her being in any part of the navy, but he did want her to get back on her feet.
“Thanks dad, but that will be my last option.” Y/N told her father honestly as she traced her finger around the rim of her glass. “I’ll use the money they had to give me to live while I look for something else.” That was the most logical to her. She didn’t want to be in a job where she hated the facility or where her father is the reason, she got the job. Y/N knew that it wouldn’t hurt her to have a small vacation either. It would be good for her to have some free time and be able to relax a bit.
The girl zoned out as her dad and Penny engaged in a conversation, with the time it was about to get packed. Pete’s class had already joined each other in the back where they usually stay and the chaos they were causing. Y/N’s gaze landed over to Bob who was talking to Phoenix before the girl stood up and started walking towards the bar. The unfinished conversation hung over her, making her want to go over and spark up the conversation. So, without a further thought, the girl made her way over to the quiet navy man.
“Bob,” Y/N spoke softly so she wouldn’t scare the man. He turned to face her, a small smile appearing when he noticed the girl. Her hair was in a messy ponytail and her scrubs marked every curve of her body, not that she got them tight. It was just the brand she was wearing that day; she would admit that she had some looser ones at home.
“Hi.” Bob said, almost sheepishly as he noticed her scrubs and her appearance. He would be lying if he told anyone that the girl in front of him was not attractive. Of course, he thought she was gorgeous. How could he not?
Y/N let out a short giggle as she took the seat next to him, “hey.” She replied before noticing Bradley’s gaze from across the pool table. She sent him a smile with a wave, he returned the smile before turning back to the game in front of him. “I rushed out yesterday so I thought we could finish our conversation.” She enlightened as she turned towards him a bit.
“Oh,” Bob nodded as he noticed the girl’s eyes glisten with an emotion he could not decipher.
“I didn’t get an answer to my first question,” Y/N started.
“Oh, uh, I’m actually not a pilot.” He announced to the girl beside of him. “I’m a wso.”
Y/N nodded understanding that he would not be the one flying the jet. She had grown up listening to her father tell her stories about the navy and what he did for work. Of course, it was not exactly well known around the younger lieutenants that Maverick even had a daughter. After all, he was known to be one of the fastest, if not the fastest, flyer in the navy. “Is bob your callsign or your name?”
“Both, well my real name is Robert.” He explained as he grabbed his drink off the ledge beside the two of them. “Everyone just calls me Bob.”
“Ah, well…” Y/N trailed as she thought about her next comment. She did not want to seem weird or come off too strong. “I like to have my own nickname for my friends.” She spoke lightly to see his reaction. “Like Bradley, well, Rooster to everyone else…” She started as she pointed her finger in the direction of her older friend. “When we were close, I used to call the guy Brownie.” She spoke up causing said man to look in the direction of his two friends.
Y/N laughed as a groan came from the Bradshaw boy’s mouth. She knew he hated that nickname since she started calling him that. Given they had a sibling relationship, so it started out to just annoy him, then she finally just called him that when they were together. She would not put Bob through the torture of having a horrible nickname like that. She just liked telling her new friends about what she put the poor boy through.
“Don’t start that again.” Bradley spoke up as he passed the two on his way to the bar. No doubt getting another drink if they were about to have that conversation.
Y/N glanced at Bob noticing the smile on his face, “I’m thinking Robby, or Bobby, it’s a hard choice.” She spoke up as Bob met her eyes.
Y/N could feel her cheeks heat up as she noticed how his gaze lingered a bit before he cleared his throat and took a sip of his drink. The Mitchell girl bit her lip to keep the grin off her face before looking away towards her old friend who had rejoined the group. Rooster sent the girl a knowing look with a smirk occupying his lips as him and Phoenix whispered to each other. No doubt talking about the two of them.
Y/N cleared her throat before standing up getting the shy boys attention, “I should get going, but uh, I hope to see you again bobby.” She mumbled softly before standing up. Rooster followed the girl out to her vehicle. Mainly to interrogate her about his classmate, but also to tell the girl goodbye. “I’ll see you later Bradley.” She bid goodbye as she hugged him quickly before letting go.
“I thought you weren’t into Navy guys?” He asked with a knowing smirk on his face.
The girl felt her face flush as she playfully rolled her eyes. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She replied as she crossed her arms over her body. Honestly, she felt exposed with this conversation. She knew that there was some reason she wanted to get to know the quiet wso, but she was not sure exactly what it was. Maybe it was because he was vastly different than the other guys in the navy. She did not plan on ever dating a military guy, and her plans were still to only be friends with them. Nothing more and nothing less, even if it was against what she personally wanted. There was no way that she was going to risk the heartbreak of her lover never coming home. It was too much, and, in all honesty, she did not want a tragic event to ruin her life like that.
“Come on, y/n/n.” Bradley spoke softly in hopes that she would not get defensive. “I am not saying you like him or anything right now. I just know how you act when you think a guys attractive, plus your type tends to be the quiet or shy ones.” He explained causing Y/N to sigh.
She knew Bradley was right. He had been around her when she first started going on dates and her boyfriends always ended up being the quiet ones. The ones that had clean reputations, and she tried her best to stay away from man-whores. That was until her ex that she dated when she was eighteen, Bradley had been briefed on that story once they reconnected. Her ex-boyfriend had been in the military, the army to be exact, he was one of the overconfident ones. Hangman had reminded her of that ex plenty when she met him. He had proposed to the girl less than a year of dating and she agreed, mainly because she was hung up on his looks. Pete would tell you that he was a dick who did not deserve his daughter. Y/N knew that her father, friends, and everyone around her hated him and the way he treated her. He was not the best, always demanding that she move with him. She had eventually found out that he cheated on her while he was stationed elsewhere. There were multiple girls, yet the most recent one before she broke off the engagement found out that she was pregnant. That was the last straw for her, knowing that she knew better, and she swore to never date anyone in any kind of branch of the Military. Of course, worrying for her father did play a part in that. It just was not the main reason.
“Of course, I’m attracted to Bob, it’s painfully obvious that he’s, my type.” Y/N muttered before running a nervous hand through her hair. She knew that if she kept talking to him or trying to hang out with him that she would eventually get feelings for the man. “I don’t want to get my heart broken again. Whether it being from mistakes or death.”
Bradley sighed; he knew where she was coming from. The fear and pain of becoming close with someone in his line of work. Y/n knew about Goose’s death, and he knew that it was probably a reminder for her, just like it was him. The only fact that it was his father and he met him, and she did not. She had comforted him a bit when he got mad at her father and when he would want to talk about Goose. “Phoenix seems to think he’s a great guy and he has a clean reputation.” Rooster started slowly to see how his younger friend would take the information. “I get that you are scared, but you can’t use that your whole life. You need to do what makes you the happiest and if that ends up being Bob in the future… so be it.”
Y/N shook her head and without saying anything else she got in her vehicle and left the bar. Leaving Bradley alone outside, until he sighed and walked back into the bar.
⁂⁍
Y/N had woken up the next morning with a text message on her phone from Iceman. She rarely talked to the man since her college graduation. He was someone that she was close with as a kid and teen, mainly because that was who her father hung around the most. He was mentioning how they were looking for a nurse to be on standby at their North Island base. She knew that her father had something to do with Iceman offering her an interview if she wanted one, how did he have that connection? She wasn’t sure, but she also didn’t want to refuse from him. It was better than her father going to the base himself and begging them to give her an interview. She had agreed to go in for the interview at 1200, which led her to drive to the base an hour before her interview. She knew that her father would be training the graduates so she could wait and talk to him about it after.
Y/N went to her interview and after she patiently waited for her father. She knew that she had the right qualifications to work at the base. Like she had told her father, the navy wasn’t what she wanted, plus she knew that if someone applied for the job that was in the navy that she would not get the job. All because she had grown up with a pilot father didn’t mean that she would have everything they preferred.
“Y/N?” A soft voice asked as the girl turned around. The Mitchell girl came face to face with Bob, who seemed like he was a bit sweaty and tired. “What are you doing here?”
She gave him a smile before opening her mouth to speak, “Well, you see Bobby, I happen to be a nurse and I got called here for an interview.” She explained. “They’re looking for a nurse to stay on base for the next few months and I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to understand exactly how my friends and dad work.”
“Dad?” Bob asked confused with a small smile on his face. “Was your father in the navy?”
“Actually- “Y/N started before she heard footsteps behind Bob. She noticed her father walking towards them causing her to give him a smile.
“Hey kiddo, what’re you doing here?” Maverick asked as he stopped beside one of his students and his daughter. Pete wasn’t stupid, he knew that his daughter hung around the hard deck because she met Bob. Of course, he knew her no navy boy rule as well, he just didn’t believe she would stick to it.
“Don’t act like you don’t know.” Y/N scoffed as she gave her father a look. The quiet boy looked between the two as they conversed, finally seeing the resemblance that he didn’t notice was there earlier. It was clear that Y/N probably got more looks from her mother because she wasn’t an exact replica of her father, but you could tell they were related.
Maverick gave her a look back before looking between her and the wso, “what’s going on here?” He knew how to make his daughter annoyed and how to intimidate one of his students.
“Uh, nothing Captain, I just- “Bob started before he started tripping over his words.
Y/N held in a giggle as she shot her dad slight glares, “We were just saying hi.” She replied with Bob giving her a thankful smile. “I’ll see you later, Bobby.” She told him with a grin as her and dad started walking down the hall, letting her father lead her wherever.
“Bobby?” Maverick asked his daughter with an eyebrow raised. The girl rolled her eyes as they entered the area where her father must be teaching. “You’re hanging out with Lieutenant Floyd now?”
Y/N rolled her eyes again before crossing her arms. “I am not, but so what if I was?” She shrugged as she sat down in one of the empty seats. The pilots must have been getting ready for a new exercise seeing as they were nowhere to be found. “What I waited around for is to ask why you told Ice about my job problem?”
“Honey,” Maverick sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. To be fair, he didn’t expect his friend to message his daughter about it. “He asked how you were since I was back in town. I told him.”
“I told you that I didn’t want your help getting this job,” Y/N sighed as she ran a hand through her hair. “If I got a job, especially like this, I don’t want it because I consider Ice an uncle or because Maverick is my father.”
“Job? Y/N, I didn’t mention him helping you get a job. I just told him that you were looking for one currently cause of the shit that your old facility put you through.” Pete honestly told his daughter. Y/N noticed the look in his eyes, he was telling the truth and she knew it. That meant that it was Ice who was trying to help the Mitchell girl get a job, but why? She understood that he was close to her father and that they were once like immediate family, but times have changed as they have grown older.
Y/N nodded bidding her father goodbye and leaving her dad and friends behind until they all made it to the bar tonight. The bar wouldn’t open for many hours, but she thought that she could go help Penny until training was over and she could get to know her new friend a bit more. “God, what am I getting myself into.” She muttered to herself as she left the base and headed towards the Hard Deck. She needed to set some boundaries for herself so she wouldn’t start catching feelings for Bob. She knew that if she didn’t set some ground rules that it would happen. Y/N Mitchell was lost in thought and slightly zoned out until she arrived at the bar, only one vehicle parked out front. She knew it had to be Penny’s.
The y/c/h girl placed her sunglasses on her dashboard before climbing out of her vehicle. The quickly pressed the ‘lock’ button on her car remote before jogging into the empty bar. Amelia sat at the bar with a notebook and pages sitting on the bar in front or her. Before the girl could speak up, Penny came out of the bag with a box that was clinking as she carried it. “You need some help?” Y/N offered as she walked closer to the older woman.
“I’m fine, thank you though.” Penny dismissed as she took in Y/N’s attire and how she was fixed up properly. “You have an interview today?”
Y/N nodded with a sigh escaping her, “Yeah, thanks to Iceman.” She told the woman as she sat a few seats down from Penny. The woman could tell by the girl’s tone that she didn’t want to talk about it. So, she did the opposite.
“I heard you have your eye on a certain Navy boy.” Penny brought up as she started wiping off the beer glasses and getting them ready for opening. Y/N groaned as she laid her forehead on the bar. It was bad enough that Bradley and her father thought they knew about it, now Penny was on her back about it too.
“Why does everyone keep telling me that?” Y/N sighed as she picked her head up and leaned against her hand. Her elbow was on the table keeping her head steady in her hand. “In case everyone forgot, I have a strict ‘no military’ boy policy in my life.” She muttered as Amelia turned to give the girl a knowing look.
“Please, even I can tell your sexually frustrated.” Amelia spoke up as she gave the girl closer to her age a look.
Penny scolded Amelia causing the teen to turn back to her homework. “Bob’s a nice guy, very shy.” Penny spoke softly as she continued her job. “I’m sure he wouldn’t break your heart.”
Y/N glanced at the two girls at the bar and sighed. “I’m not into Bob, can we just drop the topic.” She begged causing Penny to sigh but agree. That’s when the older woman finally accepted help from the younger adult.
⁂⁍
The bar had been open for about two hours and it was just a few minutes before the rush would start coming in. People would be getting off work and everything in between. Maverick had texted Penny and his daughter that he ended class a bit early today, just to give the team time to relax before tomorrow. Mainly because he had made them do pushups that day of.
“Here comes your ‘friend’” Penny stated before sliding down the bar and taking a new guy’s order. Y/N rolled her eyes at the older woman before taking a sip of her coke. She wasn’t drinking tonight, for many reasons, but the main one was she didn’t trust herself drunk or even tipsy. Especially with her Bobby in the same bar.
“Hey, Y/N.” Bob’s shyness was evident when he spoke up. More than likely because there were many men making comments to you which you just shrugged off. “Seems like we’re always in the same place.” He laughed nervously.
A grin spread across the girl’s face as she noticed his nerves. No doubt because one of his pilot friends put him up to this. “Well, Bobby, I do live here and now you know my father so…” She trailed off as she turned towards the boy that she hadn’t known for exceedingly long. “But, uh, I was actually wanting to get to know you.” Y/N spoke up, so Bob didn’t have to struggle.
“Do you, maybe, want to take a walk?” Bob offered.
A blush fanned Y/N’s cheeks as she impulsively grabbed Bob’s hand and lead him out of the bar and towards the beach. Penny watched with a smirk on her face as Phoenix and Bradley high-fived over at their table where they were seated. On the other hand, Pete knew that his daughter didn’t notice him come in the bar.
“She said she isn’t into him.” Pete spoke loud enough for Penny to hear in front of him.
“You honestly believe that?” Penny asked her ex-lover as she gave him a knowing look.
Pete shrugged, “If she isn’t, she will be.”
Back on the beach Y/N was walking with Bob, not realizing that their hands were still clasped together. It felt natural to the girl and yet she paid no mind to it. Bob had noticed and decided not to say anything. Mainly because he hadn’t had any sort of affection in a while. It’s not like he never had any, it had just been hard for him to find someone recently with his work and everything.
“What made you choose the navy?” Y/N asked softly as she sat down in the sand, their hands now disconnected. She waited for his answer as she slipped her shoes off and let her toes sink into the sand.
Bob shrugged causing their shoulders to touch, “Many factors.” He replied. “I was always a bit fascinated with the career.” He added before switching the question to the girl beside him. “What about you, what made you choose nursing?”
Y/N gave a soft smile, “Helping people.” She mumbled as she glanced over and noticed his full attention on her. “I always wanted to help people, I almost decided on Medical school, instead of nursing school.” She admitted as she watched the waves crash on the shore. It was beautiful. The beach had always been one of her favorite places. “I had it drilled in my head as a teen that I should not join any part of the military, that it was too dangerous, and I deserved to have a family without worry.” Y/N mumbled as she noticed Bob’s gaze drop down for a moment before glancing back up at her. “That’s Maverick as a dad for ya, so reckless but his kid isn’t allowed to be.” She added with a laugh to lighten the mood.
Bob shrugged, “I think that’s just what parents do.” He muttered back the reply.
Y/N gave him a small smile in understanding. She did know that it was part of Pete’s problem, but she also knew that Goose had a lot to do with how he felt about his kids joining the navy or the military for that matter. “You’re right, he was just as hard on Bradley as he was on me about it.”
Bob tensed a bit at the mention of your best friend. The clearing of the throat caught your attention, “I’m sorry if this is too personal but have you two ever been a thing?”
Y/N could tell that he was unsure and nervous to ask that question. She knew that they were close, but they never were romantically attracted to each other. They always had a strong sibling like bond. “No, we haven’t.” she spoke honestly. “We’ve never viewed each other like that. Given, he did live with us for a little bit… we grew our sibling bond.” She explained.
Bob nodded not saying much after that. The quiet WSO knew that he didn’t want to have to compare to Rooster if they ever dated. It wasn’t something that would end very well, considering he believed that Rooster outdid him many times. It was clear that the older pilot had an extrovert personality which Bob knew was usually a hit for the woman.
“what’s going on in that head of yours?” Y/N interrupted the guy’s thoughts. She watched as he pushed his glasses back up his nose before shrugging his shoulders. Bob would be embarrassed to tell her what he was thinking about. The two hadn’t known each other for very long but he was definitely attracted to the captain’s daughter. “Bobby,” she playfully nudged the boy. “You can trust me.” She assured.
“It’s nothing.” He dismissed. He didn’t miss the way that Y/N rolled her eyes and let out a heavy sigh. It wasn’t that she was disappointed, she just wanted to know what he was thinking. She knew that he was previously deep in thought and his facial features showed that he was concerned about something.
Y/N grabbed her shoes before dusting off her feet, “I’m always here if you need me, Bobby.” She assured as she carefully slipped her shoes back on. “I should be getting home; it’s getting late and I’m sure my dad won’t go easy on you guys tomorrow.” She easily stood up with Bob following her. “See you later, Bob.” She waved before turning around and started walking towards the parking lot.
Bob stood planted on his place at the beach, until his feet took off without him thinking about it. “Y/N!” he called causing the girl to stop her walk and turn around waiting to hear what he had to say. “What you told Hangman… is that true?” He asked as he walked closer to the girl that he was starting to develop a crush on.
Y/N’s eyebrows furrowed slightly before realization dawned on her face. He was concerned that what she told him was true. Honestly, it was. The girl didn’t want any significant other being in any branch of the military. Especially not after her father and her dating history. Yet she felt like she would be lying to him if she told him that it was a hundred percent true. “Why don’t you just wait and see, Bobby?”

Hi!! I was wondering if I could request a fluffy one shot with iceman from top gun?? I was thinking a morning after and reader is kinda unsure of what is going to happen but Tom is super sweet and cuddly. Love your writings!!!💕💕
Morning After
Tumblr media
Summary: Worries flood your mind after your first time with Iceman. You had been told to stay away from Navy pilots after all. Luckily, Ice makes how he feels about your relationship clear.
Warnings: mentions of sex, kissing, doubts about relationship (I guess)
Word Count: 2.1k
Tumblr media
Plenty of people had warned you about the Navy pilots before moving so close to Top Gun. You were well aware of how they swept women off their feet one day only to leave them the next. Rinse and repeat. Yet, you moved anyways, into a small, one-bedroom apartment. It was cute, had a balcony that overlooked the beach, and was extremely close to the Hard Deck. That was where it all started.
Your friend introduced you to the beach-side bar one Friday night. You weren’t looking for a Navy stud to take home. You just wanted to have fun.
After a round of billiards, you retired to the bar as your friend “went to the bathroom.” As she walked away, the man in uniform she had talked to while playing pool joined her, and they exited the building instead of turning left into the bathrooms.
A beer hardly took the pain of being ditched away. What a nice introduction to the city: your friend, and ride, leaving you stranded at a bar. At least it was a short walk home.
It was then he caught your eye. Across the bar, a blonde man wearing sunglasses and intensely chewing gum inside was looking in your direction. He lifted the glasses from his eyes when he spotted you and winked once they were finally off his head. You rolled your eyes. Another pilot. How could your friend have fallen for the other man's tricks?
The man’s eyes stayed glued to you as you quickly drank your beer. The sooner the golden liquid was gone, the sooner you could walk home. You glimpsed across the bar again. The blond had disappeared. Your eyebrows scrunched in confusion as you checked around for the mystery man.
“Oh my God,” you breathed, flinching in surprise. He was right next to you, leaning against the clean bar-top. A cheeky grin spread across his face.
“Did I scare you?” he teased, his facial expression unchanging, “Or are you just that surprised at my good looks?”
“No, you surprised me, that’s all,” your cheeks began burning. There was no doubt they were now a deep pink color. You grabbed your bag and began standing, but the blond blocked your way to the door. Every time you stepped in a different direction, he followed. Eventually, you groaned and looked him straight in the eye as he stood in front of the exit door.
“Can I at least get a name?” he asked.
You sighed and brushed a strand of hair out of your face. The man was handsome with his beautiful green eyes and stunning face, you had to admit but his ego was clearly enormous. Maybe if he could keep it under control. But that would never happen. He was one of the infamous Navy pilots, after all.
“Y/N.”
“A little louder, please?” he said, bending down slightly and tilting his ear towards you.
“Y/N!” you practically shouted. The rest of the bar was too full and rowdy to hear your little scuffle. The man chuckled and resumed chewing on his piece of gum.
“I’m Iceman.”
“Ha, ha,” you said sarcastically, deciding to humor Iceman’s attempts, “What’s your real name?”
“Why? You’re not into pilots?”
You sighed for what seemed like the thousandth time in the evening, “No, I’m not. Now, tell me your real name or I’m walking out the door.”
“I’d like to see you try,” Iceman taunted. He crossed his arms but, when you didn’t move, he continued, “The name’s Tom Kazansky.”
“Great,” you stated bluntly, “Now, Tom, I would like to go home. Let me through, please.”
He begrudgingly returned his arms to his side, allowing you to walk through the exit. His voice called after you once you walked out of the building. You ignored him the first time, and the second, but the third time you turned around.
“Yes?”
“At least let me walk you home,” he appealed to you. His ego was starting to fade.
“I think I’m fine, thanks,” you replied, but you didn’t turn back around yet. You wanted to hear his response.
“C’mon. You can’t walk home alone, especially this late.” he checked his watch and then made eye contact with you again, “it’s almost eleven.”
Your eyes darted around the night. It was incredibly dark and the street lights weren’t helping. There were plenty of spaces someone could be hiding in, plenty of spaces you could be taken to...
“Fine,” you said. It was your turn to cross your arms when he paused in disbelief, “You coming?”
Iceman hurried to your side and, after casually throwing his arm around your shoulders, you began making your way back to your apartment.
To your utter surprise, the walk was nicer than you expected. The conversation flowed smoothly, although it only lasted for about ten minutes. You couldn’t help but ask about his flying escapades and he happily obliged, detailing the most daring missions he’d been on and the training he did. It didn’t occur to you that his stories may have been a tad exaggerated.
Once you were at your front door, your opinion of Iceman had practically done a complete 180. Despite his ego, he had treated you kindly even though he knew he wouldn’t be reaching third base that night.
“Thank you for walking me home,” you said, turning around in your doorway. He was standing across from you with his hands behind his back. He looked innocent outside of your door. Nothing like the man who had tempted you across the bar just twenty minutes ago.
“It was no problem,” he replied, “I’ll see you around.”
“Yeah, definitely,” you nodded, a light blush returning to your cheeks, “Good night.”
“Good night.”
You returned to the Hard Deck without your friend the next night and the next. Suddenly, it had been a week of going to the unruly bar. The reason was to see Iceman, of course, but you couldn’t admit that. At least, not yet. Each time, you played the same game of eyeing each other across the bar. Then, as soon as one of you was about to leave, the other would catch up to them and “walk them home.” It was truthfully just a stroll to your house after a couple of beers.
Several times during your walks, you found your eyes wandering up to your escort home. Man, was he hot. Thoughts drifted into your head. At first, they were innocent: what it would feel like to run your fingers through his hair, to hold his hand, to feel his lips on yours. But, whenever your dreaming would take a more explicit turn, Iceman would notice your staring and you would be interrupted.
“We can’t keep going about this,” Iceman finally said the fourteenth time (fifteenth? You weren’t sure at this point) he escorted you home. There had been plenty of unofficial bar dates where a friend insisted they drove you home instead. Those were your least favorite days, for obvious reasons.
“Going about what?” you asked innocently. This time, your hands were positioned behind your back, “What do you want to change?”
“You know what,” Iceman took a step closer to you. You could feel his breath on your skin, sending goosebumps down your spine.
“I’m not sure I do,” you teased, a surge of confidence rushing through you. You had gotten to know Tom. He wasn’t one of those Navy pilots that people gossiped about. Maybe he was in the beginning, but now.. now you were in the clear, “Why don’t you show me?”
Iceman chuckled and took another step closer. His face was hardly inches from you. He bit his lower lip sensually, his eyes darting between your mouth and eyes. Eagerness was building in your abdomen as you leaned in as well. To your past self’s dismay, you had been waiting for this.
In a moment, Iceman’s lips were crashing against yours in a desperate fever. They were just like you imagined them. Rough, but passionate, like he had been harboring the same thoughts about you that you held for him. Both of you were stumbling back into your apartment. After slamming the door behind you, Iceman wrapped his arm around your hips, picking you up and carrying you to the bedroom as your hands began tugging at his shirt.
You disconnected your lips for a second, taking a breath of air, “Are you sure about this?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” he answered before placing his lips on your once again.
xXx
You awoke early the next morning. Faint sunshine was streaming through your window, illuminating the room in a gentle glow. Your covers were a mess. The clothes you had worn the night before were thrown haphazardly on the floor, along with some pillows. Everything seemed perfect. Too perfect.
Thoughts began flowing through your head. They were unlike the pleasant ones that filled your mind before. They were doubtful, worrying. What was going to happen now? You glanced at the man sleeping to your right. He was so peaceful and calm. What would happen when he woke up?
The words “Why wouldn’t I be?” kept returning to your mind. Was he actually unsure? What if he didn’t actually care? Were you just another one-night stand to him? You had only known him for a month or so, too. You didn’t doubt that Iceman would play the long con for a pretty face. The thought that he had done that to you made you sick.
Suddenly, you felt something tugging at your waist. Iceman’s large arms wrapped around you, pulling your body close to his. He laid his head over your shoulder and began placing small kisses along your neck.
“Good morning,” he mumbled in between lazy kisses.
You hardly heard him. You were too lost in thought to process any noise outside of your brain. Was he buttering you up to drop you like a rock not minutes later? He had probably put his clothes on already and was only still here to tell you he would never see you again.
“Good morning,” Iceman said a little louder. He stopped peppering kisses down your neck, “How’d you sleep?”
“Fine.”
“You look beautiful.”
“Thanks.”
Iceman frowned and unattached one of his hands from your waist. He propped himself up on his elbow, his other hand still laid across your stomach. You turned to lay on your back and stared at the popcorn ceiling, refusing to meet Iceman’s gaze. While your worries weren’t confirmed, you were almost certain they would be soon. You had fallen for a Navy pilot. You did what everything had instructed you not to do.
“What’s wrong?” Iceman asked, his fingers drawing circles around your stomach.
“Nothing,” you said quietly.
“You’re lying,” he stated. Iceman took his hand off your stomach and held your cheek gently, guiding your face to look at him. His eyes scanned your face for any sign of what was troubling you.
He sighed, “You know that I love you, right?”
“I bet you say that to all the girls,” you said, quietly laughing to yourself at the end.
“I definitely don’t,” he scoffed, getting off his elbow and wrapping his arms around you again. He dragged you across the bed so he was spooning you from behind, “In fact, you’re the first person I’ve said that to in a long time. What made you think that?”
“I don’t know. Everybody warned me about Navy men when I moved here and I figured you wouldn’t really care about me.”
“What? I would never treat you like... however people told you Navy pilots treated women. I don’t know what would happen to me if something bad happened to you. I- I care for you a lot, Y/N, no matter how big my ego is,” he said. You could sense the cheeky grin growing on his face.
“Oh, so you’re self-aware now?” you joked.
“Mhm,” Iceman murmured, holding you tighter than he was before. For the first time since you awoke, you realized how comfortable his arms felt around you. It was like they were perfectly built to fit your waist, “I mean it when I say I love you Y/N. I hope you love me back.”
You twisted around in his arms to face him and looked him in the eyes. They were soft, unlike the night before when they were eating you alive. You couldn’t help but smile. He loved you. He really did.
“How long can you stay until?” you asked.
“As long as you need me to.”
“Good,” you said. Before joining your lips in a slow, much-needed kiss, you added, “I love you, too, Tom.”

Tom's eyes scanned the room as disappointment slowly filled his chest. He couldn't find you anywhere. You hadn't shown up at lunch, and you barely stayed for breakfast. During class you seemed so caught up in watch the instructors were teaching you had barely spoke a work to each other.
Hearing footsteps, he turned to see Hollywood walking past. "Hey Hollywood, you seen Y/n?"
Hollywood looked back at him and smiled a bit "Nike scheduled another training course."
"Another? They've already done two."
Slider shrugged "I know, but I saw them before they got into the jet, they looked determined to go up again."
"When did they go up?"
"About ten minutes ago, they'll probably be done any minute now."
Tom nodded in thanks as he left. He thought of how you had been acting recently, he frowned to himself. You had been doing more training courses than any other student in the last week, and taking less breaks. He had barely seen you eat anything, your smile was less bright, and your laugh quieter than normal.
He had noticed this change ever since you came back from a visit with your father. He knew your father was an Admiral, highly decorated, so he knew he expected a lot from you, what had he said that made you start working so much harder? You were already doing so much better than most. What else did he expect?
Tom only worried more when you didn't show up for dinner. He went to your room but you weren't there. And he didn't see you until later in the evening when he came to your room to find you again. All the others had gone out for the evening, and you of course, had stayed behind.
Knocking twice, he held his breath as he waited for your voice from the other side. Hearing you softly call out, he let out a small breath of relief before walking in. Seeing you sitting on your bed, he immediately felt his chest tighten. You looked exhausted, and you were still in your uniform.
You smiled at him as you set down your notebook, but your smile faded when you saw the look on his face. "What's wrong?"
He shook his head softly as he looked you over "You." You frowned in confusion and he continued "You look exhausted Y/n, what are you doing to yourself?"
He saw your face change rapidly from realization, to dejection, to anger before you shook your head softly as you stood up, throwing your notebook on your desk. "I'm fine."
He scoffed a little "Clearly not, you look like you haven't slept in days, and what is this about you doing more training courses?"
"What I'm not allowed to?"
"I didn't say that, but Jesus Y/n, you're gonna kill yourself, have you even eaten today?"
"I'm not a child Tom, don't treat me like one." You spat.
Tom let out a bewildered sigh as he turned away from you momentarily, rubbing the back of his neck. Turning towards you again he took in a deep breath "I'm not trying to treat you like a child Y/n. I'm worried, you're gonna overwork yourself to the point of no return."
He saw your face fall as you looked down at your feet "You don't get it." You met his eyes and he felt his heart twist, seeing your eyes growing misty "You don't have to over work yourself, because you are already the best. Your expectations are your own, you don't have to deal with the condescending lectures and the constant 'you could do better' from your father. You don't know what it's like to be looked at like you aren't enough." Letting out a shaky sigh you sat back down on your bed.
Tom watched you in silence for a moment before he walked over to you and knelt down in front of you.
He met your eyes and shook his head softly "I'm sorry." He whispered. Reaching up, he gently wiped his thumb under your eye, wiping away a tear that had begun to fall. "You're right, I don't have to deal with any of that. But Y/n, I'm jut worried about you. I hate seeing you like this. Taring yourself apart for someone who will never appreciate you for who you are. You are in Top Gun for a reason, you are better than most at what you do. He should be proud of you, like I am. You don't have to prove anything to anyone, even him. You are more than enough. He's the one who should do better."
You smiled softly at him as you let out a soft sigh. "I'm sorry I yelled at you, you didn't deserve that. You were right I am exhausted, and hungry." You let out a soft chuckle.
Wrapping his hand around yours he brought it to his face and pressed a kiss to the back of your hand. "Then how about this. I go get some food, bring it back here, and we eat together. We relax, talk, anything but work. And then you get some sleep. No arguments."
You smiled at him and nodded your head "I think I can do that."
He smiled "Good." As he began to stand up, he quickly pressed a kiss to your forehead. "Don't you dare open up that notebook while I'm gone."
You giggled softly "Yes Sir."

Hangman’s prank - Maverick x reader Oneshot
"Cmon Y/N, at least give him a chance" Hangman said walking into the bar with his arm around her shoulders. You had met Jake a while ago when he tried to hit on you, and even though you declined his advances you ended up staying friends.
He currently had you walking into a bar, for a blind date with some pilot you didn't know, despite having no recollection of agreeing to the date. Hangman says you agreed to it while drunk but Y/N knew she wouldn't have done it no matter how wasted she was.
Either way, here she was ordering a drink and waiting with Jake for her mystery man. Ten minutes past, then fifteen and if Jake hadn't been waiting with her, she would've thought it was an elaborate prank. "Maybe he's not coming" she said, a last desperate plea to leave before she was stuck on a date with someone she probably wouldn't like for the rest of the night.
Knowing Hangman's idea of 'good' the mystery pilot was probably cocky and dangerous. Y/N couldn't stand a night of bragging about the easiest air stunts. He probably wasn't even good looking she grumbled to herself. Luckily it was too loud for Hangman to hear.
Just as Hangman was about to order another round a man walked in and clapped Jake on the shoulder. "Hey, sorry I was late I couldn't find my sunglasses" he said, tapping the the dark aviators that were perched on his nose. Y/N turned around to get a better look at him.
He had a brown bomber jacket with a bunch of different patches, a tight white t shirt and washed out jeans. "All good Pops" Hangman replied turning to greet the other man. Then with his arm still around the man he turned to you. "Pops this is Y/N, Y/N this is Maverick" he said hitting the man's chest as he introduced him. "This is your blind date?" He said, turning to Maverick but looking at you.
"What?!" Y/N and Maverick said in sync and Hangman burst out laughing. "Oh my god, you guys should have seen the look on your faces" he said doubling over. Maverick rolled his eyes and Y/N glared at him. "Well have fun" he said, getting up and practically running out of the bar. "Jake! Jake get your but back here" she yelled but the pilot only waved her off.
"200 push-ups on Monday!" Maverick added and there was a noticeable drop to Hangman's shoulders when he heard that. Y/N and Maverick chuckled lightly before he turned to face her. "You can leave if you want to" The captain said patting the bar. "I'm here now, might as well stay" she said taking a sip of her drink.
He nodded as the bartender handed him a tall glass. "So how do you know Hangman?" He asked. "He tried to hit on me a while ago but I rejected him" Maverick snorted. "Sounds like Bagman" he said and Y/N hummed in agreement. "So you're a pilot" she said desperately trying to keep the conversation going.
Despite her initial reluctance something about Maverick seemed to interest her. "Yeah, I..." Y/N didn't hear the rest cause she was analysing his face. She noticed the way his eyes lit up, just from talking about flying and his smile. It was cheeky, and took Y/N's breath away. It was the type of smile you had to see again, the type that sent sparks through your body.
She realised Maverick had stopped talking and she struggled to find a response. "If you don't mind me asking, why are you still a captain if you've been flying for so long" she asked, trying to remember the little bits she had heard from his previous answer. "I don't wanna sit behind a desk or teach" he said rolling his eyes
"Not that it's bad, I'm just not a good teacher" he added quickly. "I'm a pilot, always was, always will be. Captain is the highest rank where I can still be in the air so" he trailed off and Y/N smirked. "Not big on change I see" she said and he smiled back, she felt butterflies in her stomach again. "Why mess with perfection" he said, Y/N raised her glass and Maverick clinked it against hers.

Y/N and Maverick were laughing as she got off his motorcycle and walked to her door. Pete stood on her doorstep while she dug her key out of her bag. "I had the best time today" she told him, beaming, her cheeks were sore from how much she was smiling.
Pete's grin matched her own as he replied. "I did too" she stared at his smile as she had every time she saw him for the past two weeks. The way his cheeks turned the lightest shade of pink and his eyes glittered in the sun. He stepped closer without her realising, and she found herself stepping toward him off her own accord.
His hand came up to her cheek and he held it gently, his other hand resting just above her waist. She could feel his thumb stroking back and forth on her cheek as he leaned in. She dropped her hands to lie on his chest as his lips met hers.
It was soft and sweet but it made Y/N see stars. Maverick pulled her closer and she curled a hand around his neck as he kissed her deeper. She felt lightheaded and dizzy when he finally pulled away and she was met with his signature smirk.
As she turned to unlock her door he slipped his sunglasses on. "See you next week" he said with a wink and he walked back to his bike. She waved at him before he left and once she was inside she sunk down against the back of the door, with a goofy smile on her face.

"Jake's gonna freak" she said laughing as her and Maverick walked into the bar. Today was the day Y/N was finally going to meet the dagger squad. Obviously she already knew Jake and she had met Bradley about two weeks ago, but she was meeting the rest of them today. It was Bradley's idea, to not tell Hangman that it Y/N was Pete's new girlfriend. He was even planning on filming Jake's reaction.
"He's been too cocky lately, I think he needs it" Pete said to the girl clutching his arm. "Look who's talking" she said and Maverick raised an eyebrow. "Hey, I'm 57 and still flying with them, I earned the right to be cocky" he said making Y/N giggle.
When they walked in Phoenix and Payback noticed them first. They waved the couple over while Rooster punched the air. They heard Rooster talking to Hangman once they got closer "Suck it Bagman!" He said to the blonde pilot sticking his tongue out as Jake slammed his cue down on the pool table.
"You got lucky Bradshaw" he said crossing his arms before he turned to face the newcomers. "Y/N what are you doing here? We're waiting for Maverick's girlfriend" he said not making the connection.
The rest of the dagger squad silently smirked as they waited for him to realise. Y/N saw Jake's eyes follow Maverick's arm that was curled around her waist and his eyes grew wide. His jaw dropped and he stuttered an unintelligible sentence.
"Wha- I?" Y/N held in a laugh as she spoke to Jake. "I don't know why you're surprised, you set us up in the first place" she said fluttering her eyelashes and placing a hand on Pete's chest. Hangman flailed his arms wildly as he replied "Well- yeah but it was a joke, I didn't think you two would actually-" he was cut off by Roosters loud laugh.
The brunette man was nearly doubled over in laughter. He would've been lying on the floor if not for the phone he held up, most likely filming Jake's reaction. Jake's face turned from shocked to mad. His cheeks turned bright red, from embarrassment or anger, maybe both. He grabbed Rooster and got him in a headlock, the other pilot still videoing.
Y/N laughed as Maverick started introducing her to the rest of the squad and the two of them relayed the story of how they met alongside a fuming Hangman. It became a running joke, Maverick and Y/N's relationship was all because of Hangman's prank.

You and Bradley Bradshaw were destined for each other. Growing up together, you were inseparable, seeing each other daily. Spending just about every second of the day in each others company.
After everything that happened with Goose, Maverick swore to never leave the family’s side. Even when his own relationship was falling apart. Nothing could come between Mav and protecting that family.
So, ever since Bradley was born, exactly 1 year and 2 months after you, you had been practically joined at the hip, impossible to separate.
It was no surprise to anyone when you announced that you were officially dating in your teenage years. Although your father would say that he was less than impressed with you dating any boy, even Bradley himself. But he had accepted it, only after a thorough talking to from Carole Bradshaw.
There was only one thing that could come between you and your destiny. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. And boy did he really get in the way. Really took everything you held dear to yourself and threw it in the dirt, stomping all over it.
~~
“I’m gonna kill him, I swear I’ll fuckin’ kill him!” Bradley stormed through the door, red with rage.
“Brad, what happened?” You were quick to jump up to his side, concern evident in your voice. The paper you eagerly held on to before now an after thought.
“Maverick! He fuckin’ pulled my papers.” There was venom dripping from every word Bradley spoke, anger coursing through his veins. “All of that work, down the drain, everything I’ve done is all for nothing.” He was pacing and throwing his arms in the air, unable to contain the pure rage running through him.
“I’m sure there’s been some sort of misunderstanding, dad would never-”
“No, Mia! You don’t get it, he’s ruined everything, everything I’ve ever worked for!” He was facing you now, yelling, basically spitting his words at you. “You’re his daughter, you’ll never understand, never have to understand. You’re gonna get everything in your life handed to you no questions asked!”
You couldn’t believe his words. Didn’t want to believe his words. They cut deeper than anything anyone had ever said to you.
“You think I have it easy because he’s my father?” You spat back, just as venomous. “I have to work twice as hard as anyone else just to prove that I’m not some nepotism baby. No one’s ever going to appreciate me for my own ability, I’ll only ever be the great Maverick’s daughter!” You threw your hands up in disbelief. Disbelief that he would even think that. Disbelief that you were standing in your kitchen screaming at each other.
“Well I guess we’ll never know.” Bradley chuckled cynically. “If he pulled my papers, there’s no way in hell he’d let you get accepted.” You clenched the paper in your hand harder instinctively, shoving it into his chest.
“That’s why I never told him, I’m not that stupid.” Your eyes narrowed at Bradley as his widened, smoothing out the paper to read.
‘We are pleased to inform you of your acceptance into the Naval Academy in the field of Aviation Welfare’.
Bradley could only stare at you, slack jawed, eyes darting between you and the letter.
“I can’t believe this shit.” He shook his head in disbelief. “This is so fucking bullshit!”
“What the fuck, Bradshaw? I thought we were in this together?”
“Yeah, we were, until your dad pulled my fucking papers.”
“That has nothing to do with me. I didn’t exactly ask for him to be my father. Hell, I would’ve specifically asked not to have him if I could, but I fucking can’t, okay. Are you really going to let this, him, ruin everything?”
“He already has, when he pulled those papers.” You stilled, all emotion draining from you at his words, going numb.
“So this is it? Everything’s over?”
“My life may as well be, thanks to him.”
“Get out of my house.” You had to force yourself not to scream at him, knowing that it wouldn’t help the situation. Bradley said nothing as he stormed out of you kitchen, letting the door slam on his way out.
~~
That was the last time you saw Bradley Bradshaw, your boyfriend, before you left for training.
That was also the last time you referred to Pete Mitchell as your dad. You disowned him as your father and vowed never to forgive him for what he did to Bradley, and subsequently, you. From then on, he was only ever Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell to you.
~
It had been years since you had spoken to either of the two men. Pete had tried to insert himself back into your life, showing up at ceremonies and important events in your life, but you always kept it strictly professional, refusing to acknowledge him as your father.
Bradley, on the other hand, you hadn’t spoken to since the incident back in the kitchen of your family home. You’d never admit it, but you never truly got over him, and you made yourself a promise to never let anyone get close like that again. The two men you should have been able to trust the most destroyed you in a single day. You would never let that happen again.
That’s why you were surprised to receive a call from Admiral Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson. You had crossed paths when you attended Top Gun, (like father like daughter right?), but you didn’t think you had made much of an impression on him. You may have kept to yourself, but you also always made your opinion known, even if it was an unpopular one, and definitely put people in their place if they were out of line. But if anyone dared liken you to Maverick you’d have their head for it, as a couple of the men from your Top Gun squadron found out the hard way.
Clearly Cyclone appreciated your skill as well as your personality, because his call was to invite you back to Top Gun to teach the next intake. Something about a mission that was too classified to discuss over the phone.
~
Making your way back to Fightertown had you reminiscing on the ride. You had chosen your trusty Triumph Thruxton to fully enjoy the long journey, packing only your essentials in a large duffel bag secured across your back.
You and Bradley had grown up here. Just about every turn held a memory of the times you spent together.
You didn’t have long to reminisce however, as you were soon pulling into the Top Gun base, back at your old stomping ground. Now, memories came flooding back of your days flying there, coming out top of your squadron. That was potentially the best day of your life, knowing you finally beat Maverick, finally were better than him. That didn’t happen to be the first time you had proved yourself better than him, either.
The briefing for the cause of your return was long and tedious. There was an underground uranium plantation breaking NATO laws that needed to be taken out. You were assigned with teaching the best of Top Gun how to succeed in this, and most importantly, to teach them how to all make it back home. Your main task was to ensure the team became just that, a team. Easier said than done when most of the pilots that graduated top of the class had an ego to match. But you were always up for a challenge.
Seeing as you were now back in your old stomping ground, you thought it was only fitting to visit Penny at the Hard Deck after the briefing, you definitely needed a drink after the news. Maybe you could even scope out some of the class while you were there.
As you stepped through the door of the bar, you were greeted with the familiar buzz of chatter and music from the juke box. It was only mid afternoon, but the place was already lively.
You made a beeline for the bar, dodging already tipsy bodies moving around the room chaotically and thumped your hand on the bar twice to get Penny’s. You couldn’t help the grin that spread across your lips as she angrily turned to see who had the audacity to get her attention like that. But her death glare soon slipped to a shocked grin when she spotted you, dropping her cloth to give you a hug over the bar that was so tight you thought she might crack a rib.
“Mia! What the hell are you doing back around here?” Penny poured you a beer as she gave you a questioning side glance.
“Apparently they need some new life ‘round here to teach the new- well old new meat.” You flashed her a smirk over the rim of your glass she had handed you before taking a sip.
“Well, god help the poor souls that cross your path in that classroom.” She returned your smirk easily.
“Penny, my dear,” a tanned, blond-haired man approached the bar opposite you, a smirk on his lips that you just knew was there 98% of the time. “I’ll have another round on my tab, please.” He threw in a wink for good measure. Then, his eyes were on you, widening slightly at the sight of you as he chewed on the toothpick between his teeth.
“Well, well, well,” the blond made his way around the bar to stand next to you. He leaned an elbow on the bar and rested his palm on his defined chin. “And who do we have here?” There’s a glint of something, lust, surely not, in his eyes as they roam over your features.
“Who wants to know?” Eyeing him up and down right back as you took another long sip of your beer, only your look was one more of annoyance than lewd interest.
“She’s a woman of mystery, Hangman,” Penny placed his 3 beers on the bar for him. “Good luck.” Winking at you before she returned back to the other customers waiting.
“So, Hangman? You like word puzzles or something?”
Hangman couldn’t help the slight snort of laughter that escaped him. “Gotta admit, haven’t heard that one before.” He nodded to his friends as they came over to grab their beers, realising that they’d probably never make it to the pool table they were gathered around. “But,” he glanced back to you. “I guess you’ll just have to find out how I got the name.”
If you were being honest, you zoned out about the time his posse came to rescue their drinks. Your heart had sunk the second you saw his famous Hawaiian shirt walk through the front door, fear only solidified as you heard a voice call out “Rooster, that you?”. You gulped down the remainder of your beer and slapped down a $50 note to cover your drinks, plus some. Your eyes caught Penny’s and you gave her a silent plea of ‘I was never here’, she replied with a knowing nod.
Hangman just stared at you, confusion spread across his handsome features.
“Thanks for the chat, Hangman, but it’s time for me to go.” You spoke as you hastily got out of your seat, eyes flashing to where Bradley was now standing with his friends, his back to you.
“Hey, can I at least get your—” You were up and making your way out the door before Hangman could even finish. “Name.”
“Like I said, Hangman, woman of mystery.”
~
Training began the next day, with only 3 weeks until the uranium plant was operational, you had to get a move on if any of this was going to work.
You were stood at the back of the room, having entered after the candidates were seated, waiting for Admiral Bates to introduce you.
“And she’s one of the greatest pilots I’ve seen come through this program. I give you Rear Admiral Mia Mitchell, call sign Highness.”
Your heavy boots thundered on the concrete floor as you walked up the aisle between the tables to the front. You could feel every single person’s eyes on you, and if you had’ve looked, you would have seen a few staring a little more intensely than others.
You turned on your heel at the front to face the group, flashing Bates a smile before nodding to the team. Eyeing them over your Ray-Bans, you noticed Bradley clench his jaw, avoiding eye contact. Jake Seresin, on the other hand, was clearly trying to hold back his shocked expression and act cool. But you could see him chewing on his gum a little harder.
It was your turn, however, to try and mask your shock as Admiral Bates introduced the second teacher. He and Simpson had warned you that there would be a second person, but gave nothing away on who it might be. Now you knew why.
“His exploits are legendary, and he’s considered to be one of the finest pilots this program has ever produced. I give you Captain Pete Mitchell, call sign Maverick.”
Your whole body stiffened, subtle smirk your lips just held falling slack jawed. The echo of his boots walking up the aisle reverberated in your ears.
He nodded at Bates and then you as he moved to stand beside you. Not him. Anyone but him.
You silently thanked yourself for keeping your Ray-Bans on, otherwise the whole room would have seen the sheer terror in your eyes at what was happening around you, and you couldn’t let the candidates see any weakness.
“I’ll let you two take the floor.” Admiral Bates stepped to the side, allowing you both the freedom to speak.
Pete held up the instruction manual for the F-18 aircraft. “I’m sure you all recognise this, and know it better than the back of your own hands.”
“Hell yeah.” “You’re damn right.” You were able to pick out the voices of Hangman and Coyote as you stared at Pete, wondering where the hell he was going with this. Obviously the team knew the manual, it’s your bible in Top Gun.
Pete dropped the brick of a book into the trash can beside him, and everyone gasped. “Well, so does the enemy. What they don’t know is you, the person in the box. Over the next 3 weeks we’re going to learn every single detail about you, anything we can use to our advantage to win this fight.” You’re sure he felt you stiffen beside him, you could feel his eyes on you from your peripheral.
Pete continued to explain the mission, a uranium plantation going against NATO laws that needed to be destroyed. All happening in 3 weeks. Everyone’s faces mimicked each other, pure shock and concern at how the hell they were going to manage this.
“Anything to add, Rear Admiral Mitchell?” Pete’s voice snapped you back from your mind wandering, you cleared your throat.
“Say again?” You turned to face him, the sound of the candidates in front of you chuckling filling your ears. You forced the red tinge away that was trying to make its way up your neck.
“Do you have anything you’d like to discuss?” Pete gave you a questioning look as he rephrased his question to you.
“Ah, right,” you cleared your throat again, turning to face back to the team in front of you.
“As I’m sure you’ve realised, Captain Mitchell here is in charge of prepping you for the flight and potential fight, the nitty gritty stuff. Well, I’m here to take this roomful of egos and turn it into a team.” You pushed your sunglasses onto your head, allowing your eyes to roam over the group in front of you, lingering on Hangman as you mentioned egos. “My job is to get you working and communicating effectively as a team, so if you have any plans on hanging your teammates out to dry, I’d suggest changing them. If you leave your teammate in a dogfight, 200 pushups; if you sacrifice them to make yourself look better, 200 pushups; if you do anything to put your team at risk, 200 pushups.” The room was silent, your authority bleeding through your words.
“I’m expertly trained in reading people, I can see straight through you if you lie to me, so just make it easier on the both of us and don’t try. I’m here to learn anything and everything about you, to build this team and make sure you all get everyone home safe to their families. Any questions?” The room remained silent, everyone staring at you with wide eyes, even Pete. “Excellent. Training starts at 0600 hours tomorrow, sharp. Dismissed.” The class stood, collecting the notes they had taken and filed out of the room, leaving you and Captain Mitchell alone.
“So are you going to tell me what the hell that was, Mia?” Pete was staring at you square on now, brows knitted together in a mix of concern, confusion and frustration.
“It’s Rear Admiral Mitchell, let’s keep things professional, Captain Mitchell. And to answer your question, that was what I wanted to discuss with the class.” You chose to ignore the way Pete’s body language deflated at your cold manner towards him.
“That was a bit much, don’t you think?”
“We have three weeks to make a team out of the best of the best, we don’t have time to fuck around here, Mitchell. Do you want these guys coming back or not?” Were you a little more blunt than you intended? Maybe, but you really didn’t care.
Pete just shook his head and sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I suppose you’re right. You always did know how to win friends and influence people.” He chuckled to himself as he walked out of the room, shaking his head slightly.
~
The last night of freedom before shit got real. The Hard Deck was packed as usual, the whole team for the uranium plantation mission was there, all taking the time to get to know one another better. A fact you wished you’d have been warned about before you stepped foot through the door.
“Highness! Come have a drink with us!” Natasha Trace, aka Phoenix, was already pulling you in the direction of the of the pool table the team was gathered around before you had a chance to protest. Fraternising with the team, your students, wasn’t exactly what you had in mind for your last night off in who knows how long.
“Well, I’m glad to see everyone is getting to know each other better, especially outside of training.” You gave them all a tight-lipped smile, hovering at Bradley for just a touch longer than the others. He just stared at you blankly. Clearly he still wasn’t over everything that happened, you thought to yourself.
“Fancy a round with us, Highness?” Something about the way Jake Seresin spoke your callsign made you uneasy. Not in the sick to your stomach kind of way, just in the way that made you think there was something more beyond what he was saying.
“That depends, you talking pool or beer?” You could feel yourself easing up around them all quicker than you realised, even flashing Seresin a cocky smirk as you answered him.
“I’m sure we could work something out that involves both.” Seresin winked and the rest of the team could only stare in quiet shock at the not-so-subtle flirting going on between the two of you. It made Bradley’s blood boil.
Natasha could see the effect the interaction had on Bradley from a mile away and she nudged his shoulder with her own.
“You good?”
“I’m great.” He replied through gritted teeth, obviously the complete opposite of fine. He could only glare as you accepted the beer Seresin had just bought for you, noticing the trace of a genuine smile behind your usually professional smile. It made him sick. Out of all people, it had to be Seresin?
“And that’s a fuckin’ lie.” Natasha was facing Bradley straight on now, hands on her hips in a way similar to that of a mother concerned for her child.
“Quit it, Trace!” Something about the way Bradley bit at her name made Natasha wince, if he continued on like this, there was no way in hell he was making the cut and they’d be stuck with Hangman as lead. Over her dead body.
Bradley could already sense she was about to press further and cut it off at the source.
“Just fucking leave it, Natasha.” He turned on his heel and stormed off towards the exit before she could protest further, leaving her staring at his retreating figure.
Something about the way he snapped almost made you feel bad for him. Almost. But you weren’t about to let Bradley fucking Bradshaw ruin your night, or your career. He would have to either get over whatever his problem was with you, or pack his bag and walk off the mission. There was no way in hell you were going anywhere, even if you had to work alongside Mav. This was potentially a career-making mission, and nothing was going to stop you from what may be on the other side of it.

The first thing Mickey heard when he turned the lock to your shared apartment was a breakup song playing loudly. Punctuated by your passionate cries. In some form of a miracle, you managed to miss every note, which Fanboy took as a sign that your heart was not truly broken and José José merely possessed you with the urge to put on the performance of a lifetime.
He slipped quietly into the flat. Taking his time to unlace his shoes, set down his bag, and softly clicked the door shut behind him. You were not alerted in the slightest. Too busy in the kitchen stirring and shouting, “Qué triste luce todo sin ti. Los mares de las playas se van.”
Every other line you would spin, working your feet through a quick box step with the occasional fling of your spoon when the emotion built. “Se tiñen los colores de gris. Hoy todo es soledad.” you stepped backwards, closer and closer to Mickey with your hips swaying in a way that made his uniform fit a bit too tight.
“Media naranja…” he let his voice trail off, soft enough for you to hear him. The last thing he wanted to do was interrupt the moment with a spike of adrenaline. He’d tried his best, but he never was good at subtlety when it came to you.
“Holy fuck!” You let out a startled scream, hand coming up to clutch at your heaving chest. “Mickey, I thought I asked you to stop doing that.”
“Aw, mi vida,” he laughed, stepping closer to grab you by the hips and pull you close to him. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
You stick your bottom lip out at him in a pout. Far enough out that he can’t help the way his gaze lingers on it. “Don’t think you can kiss it better,” you tell him.
Fanboy hums. He brings a hand up to trail the back of his index finger down your cheek so that he can tilt your chin up a bit further. “Can’t I?” It’s fun to watch your reaction to the question, feeling the slightest strain against his fingers and you try to move closer to kiss him.
“Mickey,” you whine.
He closes the gap between you. “Mi cielo.” His voice is low, raspy. All his attempted teasing seems to take more out of him than you and he’d been away for far too long to let his moment draw out any longer. Fanboy cupped your cheek then pressed his lips against yours, filling in all the passion he’d left you without while he was away.
The last kiss he gave you before he’d left was quick. A domestic kind of peck married couples gave one another as they ran out the door for work. In a way, Mickey had convinced himself on the plane to Virginia Beach, that is exactly who the two of you were. You’d been together so long that being moved around from base to base wasn’t the heartbreaking news that it had once been but rather a fact of life the two of you had to live with. Still, it didn’t excuse the way Fanboy had let his own being late impact the last memory of him you were left with before he’d walked out the door. It was something he fully planned to make up for today.
His tongue ran over your bottom lip greedily. Mickey could, and had, memorized every corner of your mouth and it would never be enough to truly satiate him. The moment your lips parted for him Fanboy jumped on the opportunity to run his tongue along the side of yours. He moved with a confidence you had only ever been able to bring out of him.
You hum in satisfaction, fingers going to hook in the belt loops of his uniform. Sure of yourself. A goddess in control of his futile sense of humanity. Freedom and a prison all in one. There could be worse fates than being locked onto your lips for all eternity. Some Fanboy didn’t care enough to explore. Not when he had your body pressed against him and his lips bruised by the shape of yours.
“Mi cielo.” Mickey murmurs against your lips when he goes to take a breath. A kiss pressed to each of the corners of your mouth. “You have no clue what you do to me.” And then, as though you knew full well what you did to him, you slid your hand around the back of his neck and pulled him to your lips once again.
You’re the one to pull away after a few more blissful moments of kissing. Mickey expected you to be. Yet he still had to take a moment, pressing his forehead to yours, hand cupped around your cheek, with his eyes closed. If he had the choice, the two of you would be in the bedroom right now but you had been in the middle of cooking, and he was hard pressed to pull you away from a task once you’d begun. “I love you.”
Mickey doesn’t need to open his eyes to know there was a goofy grin on your face. “I love you more, darling.” The words brought a heat up the back of his neck, settling on his ears. Years into this relationship and you still could fluster him. Mickey opened his eyes, pressed one more swift kiss to your lips, then leaned back to look at you.
For a moment it felt like the two of you were plunged back into the moment of your first kiss. Two kids in love staring at one another with smiles of disbelief. Fanboy knew a part of him would always be stuck in that feeling whenever the two of you kissed. There was no conceivable explanation for how he got so lucky to be able to kiss you whenever he pleased. To be able to call you his everything.
“Mi vida, when I came in… is that really how you’d react in the case of an intruder?” He asked quietly in a poor attempt to cover a soft laugh. “Scream your head off first, figure out a way to fight later?”
You roll your eyes at him and, even in your moments of playful aggravation, Mickey can’t help the way his pulse quickens. He uses his thumb to trace hearts on your waist. A way
“I’m a pilot, mi sol. There’s a reason I do all my fighting in the air.”
“I can teach you to fight.” When you laugh, he pulls you tight to him. “I’m serious. It’s easy, mi vida, a lot like dancing.”
“I’m a horrid dancer,” you tell him. Mickey shakes his head. You have the tendency to be overtly hard on yourself, but he’d seen you when he had walked through that door. Stunning, if a little out of practice. He knew that if he were to tell you that you’d only dismiss the idea entirely claiming that he thought everything you did was stunning and, while you wouldn’t exactly be wrong, he didn’t want you to shy away from his next offer, “Dance with me?”
“Right now? I’ve got dinner on the stove.”
In a swift series of steps, Mickey had you clinging onto him so that he could position the pair of you right in front of the stove. He turned off the stove with a self-satisfied smile. For every excuse you’d planned to make, Mickey had already compiled a thousand reasons why not to worry. It’s how the two of you had always been. Fanboy had lived up to his callsign in more ways than one. He followed you everywhere fixing one problem or the next, easing your fears without you having to so much as ask. A love language, people would call it, but Mickey must have been the only person on earth who could speak it.
“You’re insufferable.” Your words make him grin. The radio starts up with a new song. “Tú” by Los Elegantes de Jerez, one of his favorites to request at the Hard Deck when Penny had live bands instead of just letting the jukebox play the same music over and over each night. He’d yet to convince you to come out and dance with him, but Phoenix was always willing. Otherwise he was more than content to dance on his own, throwing out flirtatious remarks to try and persuade you to join him.
He steps back just enough to take you all in. You let out a confused laugh.  “What?”
“¿Quieres bailar conmigo?”
“Mickey…”
“¿Quieres bailar conmigo, mi cielo?” He asks again with a bit more seriousness behind it and, when you don’t jump on the opportunity he adds, “Cocodrilo que duerme es cartera.”
“Fine, Mick. I’ll dance with-” You’re cut off with a squeak as Fanboy pulls you close. One arm wrapped tight around your waist, hand resting at the small of your back, and placed his left knee so that it rested against the inside of your right knee. It isn’t nearly as close as Mickey would like to be. He longed to crack open his chest and allow you to crawl inside to take residence in his heart so that the two of you physically portrayed Fanboy’s constant state of existence.
He brought his other arm up with your hand in his and waited patiently as you wrapped your arm around his neck. “Rest your weight into your hips.” He drags his gaze over your face, watching you calculate the right way to stand. Your analytical nature made him fall in love with you. The way your tongue would drag along your lips in deep concentration. It made it hard for him to remember what the hell he was saying in the first place. “The norteño means we have to keep our torsos connected.”
You settled your weight, pressing against him, and Mickey’s breath left him in a nervous exhale. “Not so confident anymore are we, Fanboy?” You laugh, and he ducked down slightly to press a kiss to the hollow beneath your ear.
“You make me crazy,” he said and started moving without giving you a warning. If he had told you to concentrate on the tempo you were bound to overthink and start lifting your feet instead of shuffling in wide arcs wherever Mickey led you. Once he was sure you weren’t going to stop him to start counting the beats he added, “we’re going to to step and swing our hips on each beat.”
Growing up his mother used to tell him how important it was to know how to dance. That it was the easiest way to find your other half that way. A perfect complement. Each move followed his lead. Right and then left. Two halves of a whole collapsed in an embrace Mickey never wanted to free himself from.
“Tú, solamente tú,” he sang into your ear with the fondness of someone discovering affection for the first time. A soulmate connected by the chorus of a song. “No necesito de nadie. Ni puedo dejar de mirarte.” You pressed against him, biting down roughly on your lip, and he could see the tender concentration as you counted in your head. “Hey,” he said, “eyes on me.”
Only, when you lifted your gaze to him, Mickey captured your lips in a tender kiss not once breaking step. These movements were second nature. Natural as ducking and dodging during a dogfight. He knew exactly where to let his smooth movements whirl him next. If he weren’t feeling so selfish, he might have included a spin just to hear your laughter. A sound as weightless as the way you moved against him. Mickey did not miss the way you playfully ground against him with each sway of your hips. The innocent confusion on your face while you watched his breath hitch. His hand stayed pressed to the small of your back. Drew you closer on each beat. Your hand on the base of his neck twirled the hair that needed to be cut before he went back. The gesture made him weak in the knees.
The song had finished minutes ago, but the two of you were still moving. He had been caught in the trance of your everything. Your smile, pulled back with mischievous joy; your eyes, how they lingered on his lips as he sang along; and your hands, how they clung to him even though he had no plans on letting you stray away from him during your dance.
He wanted to twirl the two of you out of this apartment. Take you to the Hard Deck. He wanted to call everyone on the Dagger Crew to the bar. Hell, he’d call anyone in off the streets to watch the two of you dance. Show everyone that you were his. Only he could draw this dreamy smile out of you. Only he could pull you out of your own head. Only he could love you like this.
You leaned forward to kiss him. “Thanks, darling. Can I finish dinner?” He relented. You, with great difficulty, managed to take a step back. Only to come back and kiss him with a ferocity that parted his lips almost immediately.
A different kind of dance began. Your tongue in his mouth, searching desperately for the words he had sung earlier. All you could pull out of him were gentle groans of pleasure. Mickey’s hands gripped at your waist. You were entirely in control. Each step forward led him backwards until he was pressed up against the counter.
Abandoning your hips, Fanboy moved his hands up to your hair. He had always learned in moments like this to let you believe that you could bring him to his knees. That thought might hold more truth to it that he cared to admit. But he could always slide his hands down to cup your face. Your weakness. He would tilt your head slightly, allowing him more room to slip his tongue into your mouth, and expose your neck enough for him to trail kisses downwards. So that when he did get onto his knees for you it was entirely of his own violation.
You noticed the change. You noticed everything when you cared to. “Mickey.” Your voice was muffled by his tongue tracing the shape of your bottom lip. “Mickey.” Once more he captured his own name and you had to pull away to say, “I have to make dinner.”
He sighed. “Do you?”
“Yes, I’m hungry.”
With one final peck he watched as you made your way back over to the stove. “I’ll have to make something more. I wasn’t expecting you today.”
There was no hint of annoyance in your voice. Fanboy could see you bite back a smile. He longed to turn you around to kiss you, but instead let you turn on the gas and stir the soup you’d been making humming José José.
“You do realize ‘El Triste’ is a breakup song, mi amor?” Mickey said, wrapping his arms around your waist, and pulling you flush against him as you stirred the soup on the stove.
“When you’re gone I like to pretend I’m heartbroken.”
“And when I’m home?” He pressed a soft kiss to your neck. “What do you like to pretend when I’m holding you like this?”
He could feel the sigh work its way out of your chest. You flicked off the gas once more. “I like to pretend that we’ll get a chance to eat dinner, but…”
Mickey laughed. “But?”
“But,” you said, “I think we’re ordering in tonight.”
“Are we now?” You spin around to wrap your arms around his neck, grinding up against him, and pulling away with a smug smile. “Oh, mi ciela, vamos a bailar.”

Today was a big day, and you wish you could say you were more excited about it. It’s not every day that your big brother gets married to the love of his life. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw and Natasha “Phoenix” Trace had finally said “I do” and you were ecstatic for your favorite female pilot to officially become a part of the family.
But you were also recently single, having been broken up with by the boyfriend you’d been with throughout most of college and the following two years since you’d graduated.
Things hadn’t ended on bad terms, the two of you just weren’t in love anymore. What worked in college just wasn’t working anymore, and you’d spent the last few months of your relationship denying to yourself the fact that you were unhappy.
You’re pretty sure now that the both of you had known for a while you weren’t right for each other, but you had been scared to end it–terrified at the notion of starting over. But, the relationship had run its course and, ultimately, he was the one to end things.
That was three weeks ago. You’d come to terms with the break-up, knowing it was what’s best for you. But that didn’t mean it still didn't hurt. It didn’t mean you weren’t sad, or that you were ready to be subjected to all the happiness and celebration that goes into a wedding.
You’re granted a brief reprieve from your melancholy thoughts when your new sister-in-law sneaks up and taps you on the shoulder. “Hey… You don’t look like you’re having much fun. Are you okay?”
Natasha asks the question with a sheepish grin. You can tell she’s trying to seem nonchalant, but you can hear the underlying concern in her voice.
Bradley and Natasha had been together five years now, engaged for one, and you could clearly see from the way that he smiled at her and the permanent glimmer in his eyes, that your brother was truly happy. He and Phoenix had become fast friends during their time together at Top Gun, and it eventually evolved into something more.
When Bradley brought Natasha home to meet you at Thanksgiving during your sophomore year of college, you knew even then that she would be the girl he was one day going to marry. Best friends turned lovers. You could only dream you’d find that for yourself someday.
You and Natasha had quickly become close as well. Bradley and Uncle Mav were the only family you had and it was nice to have another person–especially a badass woman like Natasha, in your corner.
The two of you got on like a house on fire, and Natasha was always there to give her love and support. She was like the big sister you never had, and it wasn’t long before the two of you were ganging up on your brother and teasing him together.
As Natasha’s maid of honor, you’d spent the morning with her and the other bridesmaids, helping the blushing bride get ready for her big day. In a fancy suite getting all dolled up while drinking mimosas, having your hair and makeup done before changing into matching bridesmaid dresses of a silky satin—cowl neckline and spaghetti straps, in a soft lavender shade. Helping Natasha into her beautiful, intricately lacy, white wedding gown.
The wedding ceremony was absolutely beautiful and had gone off without a hitch. Bradley had tears in his eyes as Natasha walked down the aisle to the Wedding March, matching smiles on their faces as they joined hands at the altar.
You even shed a tear yourself as the couple exchanged their vows, and before you knew it, Bradley was pulling Natasha in for a loving kiss and they were declared husband and wife.
Then, onto the reception, you’d watched with a slightly sad smile as Bradley and Natasha shared their first dance as husband and wife. You were so happy for the two of them, truly, but it was hard to get into the headspace for celebrating. Seeing two of your favorite people so in love when you’d just been dumped. When your own love life was at a standstill and you were left feeling lost and lonely.
You’d been too preoccupied in your thoughts to notice the first dance had come to an end before Nat came to talk to you. You felt guilty at the fact that she was spending her time worrying about you when she should be enjoying her big day. You’re lucky to call Natasha your sister.
So, you force your most convincing smile onto your face and nod your head, telling her that you’re just fine.
“Just tired from the long day, but I’m having a great time. I’m good, I promise!” You weren’t sure if she believed you, but luckily Natasha was pulled away by one of her aunts gushing over how beautiful she looked and offering her congratulations, before she could protest.
It’s especially hard to enjoy a wedding reception when you’re sat at a table alone, watching as everyone else is having a good time, dancing along to the music being played by the DJ.
Once the first dance was through, the rest of the guests were welcomed to join the happy couple on the dancefloor. You knew your brother had plenty of cute pilot friends, and you also knew–thanks to Natasha–that some of them were single. So, you were hoping that one of them might ask you to dance.
You may have also been hopeful for the possibility of getting laid tonight. You were newly single but even then, it’d been months since you and your ex last had sex. You were sad and lonely and thought, what better way to get back out there and help yourself feel better than hooking up with one of said cute pilots?
Your plan, however, seemed futile because none of the guys would even talk to you. In fact, since Bradley had introduced you to them after the ceremony earlier in the day, his fellow pilots could hardly look you in the eye.
“Guys, this is my little sister.” With an arm wrapped around your shoulders, your brother had rattled off each of the naval aviators’ names and callsigns, and told his friends your name. They were all nice enough, each politely shaking your hand and making small talk, a few of them making jokes at your big brother’s expense.
But you could sense there was an awkwardness there, almost as if the members of the Dagger squad were afraid of you. You couldn’t understand why, but you could tell they were hesitant to keep the conversation going with you.
Initially, you brushed it off. However, as the day went on, whenever you’d find yourself alone in conversation with one of the Top Gun pilots, they each kept the interactions very short and sweet, acting as though they couldn’t get away from you fast enough. Leaving you feeling unsure of yourself and wondering what you could have possibly done to have them all so blatantly avoiding you.
So, after sharing a dance with your dear Uncle Mav and relinquishing him back into the awaiting arms of Penny, you spend the next half hour moping at the table on your own. Absent-mindedly swirling the straw around in your drink, chin resting in your other hand as you watch the festivities going on around you.
And that’s how Jake finds you.
You were adorable. With your sparkling eyes and your hair pinned up into some intricate up-do that Jake wanted to see undone, a few pieces flowing down and framing your face. The hint of cleavage Jake could see beneath the cowl neckline of that lavender dress that hugged your curves so well as you leaned forward against the table, a slight pout on your lips as you observed everyone having fun on the dancefloor.
Jake could tell that you weren’t having a good time and he knew exactly why.
Little did you know that earlier that morning while Bradley and his groomsmen were getting ready in a suite separate from the girls, your brother had had a “talk” with all the guys.
Debriefing about last night’s rehearsal dinner, Hangman, Coyote, and Fanboy–all of the single groomsmen–had been discussing a few of Natasha’s bridesmaids that they thought were cute. Especially the maid of honor.
Rooster’s ears had been ringing when he heard them describe you to a T, and Jake could practically see smoke coming out of them as he turned toward his friends, always the overprotective big brother ready to shut them down.
“The maid of honor,” all of the groomsmen turned to look at the mustached groom as he began to speak.
“Is my little sister. And she’s off limits.” At his words and the stern, serious tone of Bradley’s voice, Jake and the others collectively shut up, matching caught-out and shocked expressions on each of their faces.
“I mean it, guys, I don’t wanna see any of you hitting on her. I love you all like my brothers, but I’m not afraid to kick someone’s ass if I see you trying it on with my sister.”
The guys all knew that Rooster wasn’t bluffing. With rushed apologies and confirmations that they’d leave you alone, the tension left the room as they all laughed it off and went about their business getting ready for the ceremony.
With Bradley’s warning in mind, the Dagger squad had spent the rest of the day being nice—but not too nice—whenever they spoke to you, and tried to keep their interactions with you to a minimum, so as not to face your older brother’s wrath.
They all knew that Bradley could be a bit hotheaded. Even Bob, who is very happily married, found himself a little afraid to spend too much time conversing with you.
Jake was ready to follow the rules too, it was Bradshaw’s wedding after all. He could hold off on pissing off his best frenemy for one night. At least that was the case, until the reception.
When he saw you sitting all alone, all gorgeous and sulking, Jake knew right then that he had to go talk to you. He knew he was the only one stupid enough—or brave enough, if you ask him—to go against your brother’s wishes, and who was Jake if he wasn’t stirring the pot?
Was it so wrong for him to help a pretty lady have a good time? And you were beautiful, strikingly so, so Jake wouldn’t mind if he got a little something out of it too.
Jake isn’t scared of your brother. Besides, Rooster is far too busy dancing with Phoenix, the newlywed couple far too preoccupied with making heart-eyes at each other to notice him making his way over to you.
Your eyes widen with intrigue as the tall, blonde pilot—Jake, or Hangman as he’d been introduced to you—sidles over to where you’re seated.
God, was he handsome. You sit up a little straighter as he plonks himself down in the chair next to you, a devilish smirk on his lips as he turns toward you.
“What is a pretty little thing like you doing sitting here all on her lonesome?” He inquires, a slight Southern drawl to his voice. Texan, maybe?
“Um… drinking?” Your answer is short, but you’re a bit caught off guard and still annoyed by the fact that all of your attempts at socializing tonight with anyone outside of the few members of your family and Phoenix, had failed.
But now, here was Hangman, going out of his way to talk to you and looking you straight in your eyes. His green gaze intense and leaving you a bit flustered.
Jake glances down to where you’re still toying with the straw in your near-empty glass. With that playful smirk still present on his face, he goes to speak again.
“Well, darlin’, I cannot in good conscience let you drink alone. What are you drinking and how ‘bout I buy you another one?” His question makes you scoff.
“Tequila Sunrise, and it’s an open bar, so… no, you can’t buy me a drink.” You roll your eyes at the almost too handsome pilot.
Oh. Pretty and feisty. Jake was going to have a hard time staying away from you.
“Well then, how about I acquire you another one, and because I’m such a nice guy, I’ll even join you?” Jake winks at you and stands, striding towards the bar before you could even answer his question.
Your brother and Natasha had mentioned Hangman to you a handful times over the years, and he was just as cocky and self-assured as they always said. But, you’d be lying to yourself if you said you don’t find it kind of charming, or that you aren’t extremely attracted to him.
Jake returns a couple minutes later, a Tequila Sunrise in one hand and a glass of what looked to be whiskey in the other. He places your drink down in front of you and slides back into the chair next to yours, albeit a few inches closer this time.
“You know, you look pretty miserable over here. Though, I guess I would be too if I had to grow up with Rooster as my brother.” That draws a genuine laugh out of you.
“There she is!” His exclamation makes you giggle, a slight blush taking over your cheeks. Jake loves the sight of your smile. The sound of your laugh. He decides that he wants to hear that sound over and over again.
“He’s not so bad.” You refute through your laughter.
“I just don’t really know many people here, and I kind of get the feeling my brother and Nat’s friends don’t like me very much. I’m not sure why…” You trail off and look down at your lap, shy all of a sudden. Jake has to fight very hard to not smile at how adorable your furrowed brows and pouted lips are.
“You’re the first person here to actually talk to me for more than two seconds.” You let out a nervous laugh and start sipping your new drink.
Jake feels bad that your dumbass brother’s plan to keep the guys away from you is the reason you’re feeling so down, without you even knowing. And no matter how cute you may look, Jake doesn’t like seeing you sad. He’s going to rectify that.
“Well darlin’, now that I’m here, you don’t need to talk to anyone else.” Jake’s smile is still smug, but sincere, and you can’t help but grin back at him. You shake your head and giggle at the cocky pilot, thinking to yourself that it wouldn’t be so bad if he were the only person you had to talk to for the rest of the night.
“Now, how about we finish these drinks and then we head out onto the dancefloor?” To that, you agree, and the two of you sit sipping your drinks and talking for a little while. Getting better acquainted. Jake is fun and very charming, and you love how easily he’s able to make you laugh.
When Jake notices that you’re just about done with your tequila sunrise, he quickly shoots back the rest of his whiskey, ready to get you onto the dancefloor. He stands and you accept the hand he’s extended toward you, his large hand engulfing your smaller one and letting him lead you into the crowd of people.
Standing in front of him now, you only just notice how good Jake looks in his suit. It’s a simple black suit, white undershirt and black tie, like all the groomsmen wore. But the way it fits his body, the way the jacket sleeves are ever-so-slightly too tight around his big arms, and the way you could tell he was extremely toned even under layers of clothing, made you dizzy.
As you make it onto the floor, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Everywhere’ begins to play through the speakers. Jake pulls you in close to him by your joined hands and spins you around under his arm. The two of you laugh, both a little tipsy.
You spend the duration of the song dancing together like children without a care in the world. Not much rhythm to it or any real dance moves, mostly just jumping around and singing along to the lyrics, Jake twirling you around a good number of times. You’re sure that the two of you look like idiots, but it’s the most fun you’ve had all night.
You dance together to a couple more upbeat songs, and Jake can’t help but admire you. He finds it incredibly sexy how carefree you seem in this moment.
As another classic rock song comes to an end and a slower song takes its place, Jake pulls you in again. This time by the waist, until you’re nearly chest-to-chest. The warmth of his hands setting your skin alight through the thin, satiny fabric of your bridesmaid’s dress.
Your own hands slide up his biceps, coming to rest on his broad shoulders. You look up at him with those bright, beautiful eyes and a shy smile, and Jake finds himself entranced.
God, he wants to kiss you.
You rest your head on his chest as he begins to sway you softly along to the music. As if Jake can feel eyes burning into the side of his face, he turns the two of you slightly, only to find Rooster glaring at him as he stands across the dancefloor, slow dancing with Phoenix.
“What the fuck is he doing?” Bradley quietly asks, mostly to himself, but the question catches his wife’s attention.
“What is who doing?” Natasha queries with a laugh as she turns to look at where Bradley’s hard gaze is pointed.
“Aw, maybe Bagman does have a heart.” Her lips form into an exaggerated pout as she watches Jake and you sway from side to side as he holds you in his arms, your head leaning on his chest. Bradley looks down at her with a bewildered look on his face.
“No, that is most definitely not AW, and no he doesn’t!” He grouches with a sigh. Natasha gives him a questioning glance, waiting expectantly for whatever the hell it is she’s missing right now.
“I told those idiots to stay away from her.” Bradley mutters dejectedly.
“What are you talking about, told who to stay away from who?” Natasha narrows her eyes at her husband.
“Jake and the rest of the squad. I overheard them talking about how hot they thought my sister was, and I told them to leave her alone.” Bradley whines.
Natasha stays silent for a few moments, processing this information and looking up at her husband with a stunned expression.
“Oh, honey…” She can’t help but laugh. Now she understands why you’d spent much of the evening sulking.
“What?!” Bradley practically shrieks. “She’s my baby sister, I just wanna protect her!”
At that, Natasha cracks a smile. She’s always admired how much Rooster loves his little sister and how, with your parents gone, he always felt it was his responsibility to take care of you.
“Bradley, I love you, but you really are an idiot sometimes.” Natasha grins, shaking her head at her husband. The look he gives her is dumbfounded and one of slight offense.
“Babe, I get that you want to protect your sister, but she’s not a kid anymore. She’s an adult and you have to let her make her own choices and her own mistakes. Even if one of those mistakes is Bagman.” Natasha scrunches her nose playfully and Bradley gives her a deadpan look.
“You know she’d be pissed if she found out that you did that.” Natasha smirks, thinking back on a few of the silly sibling spats that she’s had to mediate over the last few years since she’s been with Bradley—most of them due entirely to his overprotective tendencies and your desire to escape them.
“Come on, Roo, you know I’m right.” Bradley rolls his eyes dramatically and sighs, wrapping his arms around his bride.
“Yeah, you always are. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.” He places a kiss on her forehead, and murmurs against her skin. “But if he hurts her, I’ll kill him.”
Bradley glares in Jake’s direction once again.
Jake can also feel the eyes of the other Top Gun pilots on the two of you. They’ve all just witnessed the interaction and look between him and Rooster, some looking on in amusement, others in fear for Jake's safety.
Jake has to bite back a laugh, leaning his head down on top of yours to hide the cheeky smile that plays on his lips. The two of you slow dance a little while longer, Jake’s hands rubbing gently up and down your sides and sending your stomach into a frenzy of butterflies.
Jake decides he’d like a moment alone with you, away from prying eyes. His hands leave your torso, moving to rest on your arms, giving them a light squeeze to gain your attention. The hazy, content look on your pretty face when you look up at him only strengthens his desire to be alone with you. Fuck, he wants you.
“Come with me?” Jake leans down to whisper into your ear, his warm breath sending a shiver down your spine. When he pulls back, you look up to see his emerald eyes boring into you, and you simply nod.
You aren’t sure where he’s taking you, but if he keeps looking at you like that, you’re pretty certain you’d follow him anywhere. He grabs your hand and spares a last glance at your still glaring brother, smirking as he leads you to the exit of the ballroom.
Before you can make it past the threshold though, Jake comes to an abrupt stop and lets go of your hand.
“One second.” He quickly breathes out, leaving you standing by the door as he darts back over the bar.
You’re confused for a moment, but you can’t help but giggle to yourself as you watch him look around to make sure no one is watching before he reaches behind the bar, grabbing an unopened bottle of champagne.
He sprints back over to you, once again taking your hand in his free one and speeding out into the hallway, pulling you along with him. You’re unable to keep from laughing, near breathless as you try to keep up with Jake’s long strides in your high heels.
When he finds a dark, empty room towards the back of the venue hall, Jake pulls you inside with him and closes the door. Before you know it, your back is pressed against it, hitting the hard wood with a thud as Jake crashes his lips against yours, kissing you breathless.
Catching your plush bottom lip between both of his, one of his hands finds your waist in the dark, the other still holding onto the neck of the champagne bottle. You kiss him back with just as much fervor, reaching a hand up into Jake’s blonde hair and tugging lightly, pulling a soft groan from him.
The two of you move in sync, lips pressing together at an increasing speed and intensity until your lungs are burning from the lack of oxygen. Jake pulls back for some air and both of your chests are heaving, light pants escaping your lips as you stare at each other in the dark of the room.
When you look down and catch a glimpse of the bottle still in Jake’s grasp, you let out a breathless chuckle.
“You forgot the glasses.”
He follows your gaze and laughs along with you, though it comes out as more of a pant.
“Shit, yeah. Maybe we can find some in here, if I can just find a light…” Jake trails off, his body leaving your personal space and pulling the warmth of him along with it. You’re left standing by the door, feeling cold and already missing his presence and his weight against you as he goes off in search of the lights.
It’s a quick search, after about only 30 seconds, Jake finds a lamp on a table in the corner of the room. He switches it on, casting the room in a soft, dim golden light.
No longer bathed in darkness, you now see that the room you ended up in is another suite like the ones the bridal party had used to get ready that morning. A couple of fancy olive green velvet couches spread throughout the space, a few vanity mirrors along the far wall, a door leading to a bathroom at the back.
You take a seat on one of the lavish couches and remove your heels, feet aching a bit after the long day. You pull your legs up onto the couch as Jake goes on the hunt for champagne glasses. After a brief and unsuccessful search, Jake joins you on the couch.
“No luck.” His playful pout makes you giggle as he plops down onto the cushion next to you.
“Fuck it!” Jake exclaims as he turns the champagne bottle away from you to open it, a small gasp escaping your lips as he sends the cork flying somewhere across the room.
He hands the bottle over to you with a grin.
“Ladies first.” And there’s that wink again. As you take a swig from the bottle, Jake pulls your feet up into his lap, and you nearly choke on the fizzy liquid in surprise when his fingers begin to massage your calves. Once the initial shock wears off, you can’t stop the contented sigh that escapes your lips at the feeling.
When you’ve taken a few sips, you hand the bottle back over to Jake, fingers brushing as he takes it from your grasp. His eyes remain on your face as he takes a big swig of the champagne and you can feel a blush beginning to heat up your face.
Setting the bottle down on the floor, Jake tugs your legs closer to him again, this time pulling until you’re nearly sitting in his lap and drawing a little yelp from you. Your face is inches away from his and in the dim lamplight you can see that his eyes are blown wide, mostly black with only a hint of that pretty green visible.
Jake reaches a hand toward the back of your neck, gently running his fingers between your shoulder blades and down your upper back, bare due to the low backing of your dress. Grazing your skin with a featherlight touch before curling his fingers around the nape of your neck and pulling you in to kiss him again.
The taste of champagne is prevalent as Jake attaches his lips to yours. His other hand moves to your waist to help guide you fully onto his lap. Your own hands slide along his chest over the soft fabric of his suit jacket and up to his broad shoulders, fingers gripping lightly at the soft strands of hair at the nape of his neck. Your lips move softly against his, finding a rhythm and allowing yourself to get lost in it.
Jake’s hands squeeze at your waist, thumbs just barely grazing the underside of your breasts through your dress as he deepens the kiss. Pulling you impossibly closer as he nips at your bottom lip, eliciting a quiet whine from you. His tongue tracks along the seam of your lips and you’re quick to part them for him, allowing his tongue to work softly against yours.
You and Jake relish in the taste of one another mixed with the sweetness of the bubbly alcohol, your movements becoming more fervent. Your head grows dizzy as Jake groans into your mouth when your fingers gently tug at the hair at his nape.
Jake feels his cock twitch in his pants when he pulls away and sees your hazy expression, all hooded lids and kiss-swollen lips. He presses a trail of sweet kisses to your jaw and chin, working his way down to your neck. His nose grazes the column of your throat, inhaling the sweet, flowery scent of your perfume.
Your head tilts back on a quiet moan, granting Jake more access as his mouth begins to work at the side of your neck. Sucking and biting at the soft skin, teeth sure enough to leave a mark. With your hands still in his hair, you pull Jake back up to your lips, kissing him ardently as your hips involuntarily rut against the growing bulge in his trousers.
You both moan at the friction as Jake’s hand moves to cup your cheek, fingers tangling in your intricately styled hair. As his tongue glides against yours, you feel him begin to pull at the pins, loosening your hair from its confines until it flows freely around your shoulders. He pulls back from the kiss to look at you with a look that screams pure lust.
“Fuck, I’ve been wanting to do that all night.” Jake breathes as he runs a hand through your silky locks. Since he first laid eyes on you, he’d wondered how you’d look with your hair all messy and free, your perfect little up-do unraveled. And fuck, does he like what he sees.
With a newfound sense of need, you reattach your lips to Jake’s, sliding your tongue into his mouth as your hands begin to push the suit jacket off of his shoulders. He shrugs it the rest of the way off, letting out a whispered ‘fuck’ as your lips trail down his sharp jawline to his neck as your nimble fingers begin to work on untying his tie, and straight to unbuttoning his dress shirt after that.
When his upper half is free of clothes, you tease soft, barely-there kisses along Jake’s shoulders and the hard plains of his chest. Eager to touch more of your skin, Jake’s hands make their way down to your thighs, changing positions to pull you underneath him on the velvet couch, your legs wrapped around his hips. He sits up and runs an index finger lightly under the thin strap of your dress.
“Can I?” You nod fervently in response to his question and Jake gently pushes the straps off of your shoulders.
You sit up and Jake pecks your lips, his hands moving behind you to unzip the top of your dress. The soft satin falls down around your torso, revealing a strapless lacy bra that matches the pastel purple of your dress. His hands reach again behind your back, making quick work of unclasping your bra to reveal your perfect, supple breasts.
Jake takes a moment to admire the beautiful picture that’s in front of him before he leans down to kiss at your chest. His lips work softly at the swell of your breast, thumb and index finger coming to pinch at one nipple while his mouth engulfs the other. The moan it pulls from you is music to Jake’s ears.
Your fingers tangle in his hair once again as his tongue swirls your nipple, quiet whimpers escaping you as he kisses and suckles at the skin. His mouth travels to your other breast, leaving a trail of kisses along the way before sucking the bud between his lips, tongue working softly at it until it forms a hardened peak.
Satisfied with his work, Jake grazes his teeth against your nipple, evoking a breathy gasp from you and a tug on his hair as he nips at the sensitive bud before releasing it. You feel a gush of arousal at your core as his mouth starts to trail lower down your torso. Kissing softly at your sternum, your ribcage, and just above your navel.
Goosebumps form along your skin as Jake lowers himself down on the couch, strong hands gliding up the sides of your thighs. Pushing the silky fabric of your dress along with them until it’s bunched up at the middle of your torso, revealing pretty, sheer lace panties that you’re sure are probably soaked through.
Jake presses a kiss to your hip bone, looking up at you with wild eyes awaiting your permission. You swallow hard, nodding your head frantically. You need him to touch you before you go insane.
“Please, Jake,” You hardly recognize the breathless, whiny voice that comes out of your mouth. “Need you.”
Jake runs a finger along your slit over the damp fabric of your panties, your desperate, breathy cries painting a smirk on his lips. He doesn’t need to be told twice.
He teasingly bumps his finger into your clit just to hear you whine before his fingers grip onto your waistband, pulling the lacy fabric torturously slow down your thighs. He sits back on his knees, pressing a kiss to your knee as he helps get your underwear the rest of the way down your legs.
When they fall to the floor, Jake repositions himself on the couch between your thighs, lifting one of them over his shoulder. His lips make a trail up the inside of your thigh, kissing and nipping at the soft skin and enjoying the way your breath catches as he inches closer to where you need him most, before ultimately moving back and starting again on the other thigh. Your fingers tug at his roots, chest breathless and heaving as you wait for Jake to just do something.
You moan out loudly in surprise as your wish is granted, Jake’s tongue licking a broad stripe through your folds. Your fingers tighten in his hair when he presses a kiss to your clit. He pulls back for a moment and just stares at your cunt, pretty and glistening just for him.
You’d be embarrassed at the attention if it weren’t for the look of complete awe on his gorgeous face as he gazes at your core. His tongue glides through your folds again, collecting your arousal.
“Mm, so fuckin’ sweet, baby. Just like you.” And with that, Jake sucks your clit between his lips, drawing a loud cry from your lips as he applies a firm pressure. He alternates between suckling the sensitive bud and dipping his tongue into your hole, tasting the wetness that continues to flow at his ministrations.
As his lips wrap around your clit once more, you feel one of Jake’s fingers begin to tease at your entrance. Gathering the wetness there before the digit enters you, he lets out a low groan as you clench around it. He works his finger in and out, adding in a second to help stretch you out and get you ready for his cock.
Jake can hear your soft whimpers and heavy breathing, he can feel the way your walls clench around his fingers even tighter as he prods at that spongy spot inside of you and he knows that you’re close.
“Gonna come for me, Sweets? You gonna come all over my tongue?” Jake implores with a teasing smirk before he dives back in, tongue replacing his fingers and licking into you.
“Fuck, please, Ja- OHH!” Your plea is cut short as his fingers pinch at your clit once more. Rubbing tight circles in time with his tongue that’s fucking in and out your hole. Jake’s fingers quicken their pace, pressing firmly against your sensitive bud while he devours you, and you fall over the edge with a sharp cry that borders on being a scream.
“So fucking good for me.” Jake mutters against your center, his tongue lapping up your release while his fingers still gently swirl your clit and work you through your orgasm. He licks up every bit of your sweetness, rutting his hips against the velvety couch cushion to gain some friction on his still-clothed cock that strains under the fabric of his pants, as he watches you writhe under his tongue, hands tugging at his roots hard as your loud cries turn into soft whimpers.
Jake only lets up when your shaky hand tries to push his head away from your center, the pleasure becoming too much. Leaving one final kiss to your inner thigh, he pulls back, lips and chin glistening with your release.
You tug at Jake’s hair again, guiding his head back up to be level with yours. You pull him into a bruising kiss, moaning into his mouth as you taste yourself on his tongue. Your hands travel down to unbuckle Jake’s belt and open the button of his trousers, one hand dipping into the waistband to cup him over his boxers.
Jake grunts above you as you palm at his hard length, his own hands reaching down to help you remove his pants.
Only able to get them about halfway down his legs from his position hovering over you, Jake pulls back and stands from the couch. He pulls his dress pants and underwear down in one swift motion. Your mouth waters at the sight of him, his cock long and hard, the tip red and dripping with precum.
Before he can return to his previous position kneeling above you, you too stand up, pushing Jake back onto the couch in a seated position.
“Wha- where ya goin’, darling?” Jake questions you with a breathless chuckle, a bit surprised by the moment of dominance from you. As you drop to your knees in front of him though, he starts to get the hint.
“Just wanna return the favor.” You say it sweetly, giving him your best doe eyes. Jake’s hand comes up to cup your cheek, caressing the skin softly and letting out a desperate groan as you position yourself between his thick thighs.
You trail your nails along the skin of his thighs, leaving light pink marks in your wake as you tease your way to the apex of his thighs. When you finally wrap your hand around him, you feel Jake’s cock twitch in your grasp and look up at him with a sweet smile.
Minx. Jake swears he could cum right then and there.
Your hand rubs along the base of Jake’s cock and up to his tip, collecting the precum dribbling from his slit and dragging it down his length to aid in your movements. Your grip tightens around him just slightly, and you enjoy the desperate sound he makes as you lean down to place a kiss to his weeping tip.
Hand still cupping your cheek, Jake’s fingers move into your hair as you kitten lick at his tip before taking him into your mouth. Your tongue swirls around the ridge of his head, sucking softly and moving further down onto his length. You take as much of him into your mouth as you can, eagerly sucking his shaft and using your hand to rub what you can’t fit.
Your fingers move to grip one of Jake’s strong thighs as you take him as far down your throat as you possibly can, blinking up at him with wide doe eyes. Your cheeks suction around his length and Jake chokes on a loud moan, his fingers tightening in your hair when his tip hits the back of your throat.
“Fuck, fuck.” He gently pulls you off of him with a groan, a string of saliva still connecting your swollen pink lips to the head of his cock. Jake knew he was getting close and he didn’t want to finish before feeling your sweet cunt wrapped around him.
“Need to be inside you, darlin’.” Jake practically begs as he pulls you up to your feet. He finishes unzipping your dress that’s still hanging down around your middle the rest of the way, watching the fabric pool around your feet before guiding you to sit atop his thighs. Fully naked and secure in his lap, you wrap your arms around his neck and lead Jake into another fiery kiss.
“Need you, Jake.” You breathe against his lips, noses rubbing together as you nod your head against him.
You grind your hips down against his in an effort to convey your need. Jake’s hand reaches down to grip his cock, running it along your soaked folds and bumping your clit with his tip, teasing you both as you moan against each other’s lips.
“Shit… I don’t have a condom.” Jake realizes, voice sounding defeated as he looks down and  watches the head of his cock tease at your clit once more.
“Fuck.” The word comes out of your mouth as a whine.
Fuck was right. All that hoping and planning to get lucky tonight, and you hadn’t had the forethought to bring protection? Whoops.
Lucky for you, you’d been on the pill for a couple of years now, having started taking it when you were with your ex. You place a gentle kiss to Jake’s cheek before pulling back to look in his eyes as you speak.
“I’m on the pill. And I haven’t been with anyone in a while, so… I’m good.” You chuckle sheepishly, brows furrowing slightly as you wait for Jake’s response.
Jake nods his head eagerly. “Fuck-yeah, I’m all good too! If you’re sure…” he wants to be sure that you’re comfortable.
He can’t help but grin as you nod your head just as eagerly, but that grin is quickly wiped off Jake’s face.
Your brother can never find out about this… Rooster would actually kill him. It’s bad enough that he’s sleeping with Bradley’s little sister on his wedding day, let alone without protection.
It’s an afterthought that Jake realizes he must’ve accidentally spoken aloud, as the giggles that erupt from you in response to the words spoken under his breath hit his ears.
“Yes.” You plant a kiss on his jaw. “I’m sure, Jake.” Another kiss. “Need you.” Your lips move to peck his hungrily.
His thoughts are immediately pulled away from Rooster and Jake couldn’t be happier. Not only does he get to be inside of you, but he gets to feel you wrapped around him with no barrier in between.
Your blatant need for him only inflates Jake’s ego, and makes him impossibly harder. His hand cups the side of your neck, pressing his lips firmly to yours one more time before leaning back to look at you with a smug smirk.
“Go ahead. Take it, baby.” Jake drawls as he leans back, arms stretched along the back of the couch, his words have you clenching around nothing.
At his request, you lift your hips slightly, taking Jake’s hard cock into your hand and lining it up with your entrance. He watches in awe as you sink down around his length slowly, the both of you hissing simultaneously. You at the stretch, and him the tightness of your walls enveloping him.
Your hands hold onto Jake’s shoulders for support as you take him, inch by inch, until he’s fully seated inside of you. You both let out quiet curses at the feeling. You’re not sure you’ve ever felt so full, but your slickness makes for easy movement once you get used to the stretch.
You lift your hips until just the tip of his cock is still inside of you, before slowly sinking back down and grinding your hips against his.
“Fuck. Feel so good, darlin.” Jake groans as your muscles clench around him and you let out a quiet whimper in response.
You bury your face in the crook of Jake’s neck as you begin to ride him, moving up and down his length as your hips work to find a rhythm. Jake groans as you begin to pick up the pace, his hands moving to your hips to help guide your movements.
When you’ve found a good rhythm, Jake plants his feet firmly on the floor beneath him and begins to thrust up into you. Pulling your hips firmly against his with every thrust, hitting that spot inside of you that makes you cry out in ecstasy.
The soft whimpers you let out against the skin of his neck are driving Jake’s movements, the sweet, open-mouthed kisses littered against the column of his throat spurring him on. He grunts as your walls tighten around him in a vice-like grip on a particularly hard thrust.
Jake can tell you’re getting tired as your thighs begin to tremble over his, hips stuttering and losing their tempo as you rise and sink yourself down on his cock.
His hands wrap around your thighs, lifting you off of him and you whine in protest at the loss of the fullness of him. With you still hovering over his lap, arms wrapped around his neck, Jake easily flips the two of you over, gently placing you so that you’re lying back on the velvety couch. He hovers over you, knees digging into the cushions and he leans down to attach his lips to yours as he lines up with your entrance again.
You moan into the kiss as Jake bottoms out inside of you, your velvety walls welcoming him in with ease. Jake lifts one of your thighs around his hips, your leg going to wrap around his back automatically as he plows into you, the head of his cock hitting that spot deep inside of you again and it has you seeing stars.
The room is filled with the sounds of heavy breathing, Jake’s soft grunts and your blissful cries mingling together. Skin slapping against skin as Jake drives into you, the sound of your growing wetness as his cock moves in and out at a rapid pace. Jake leans down to suck a nipple into his mouth as he fucks you, nipping lightly at the skin.
“Jake…fuck! Please…” You’re babbling almost incoherently, the fucked-out look on your face sending Jake into a frenzy.
“I’ve got you, honey. Want you to come for me.” He mumbles against the skin of your chest as he continues to fuck you, one hand gripping onto the top of the couch for support.
He can sense you’re getting close and he applies a firm thumb to your clit, the pressure willing another moan from deep within you. Your fingers lock onto the strands of his hair as his fingers begin to circle the sensitive bundle of nerves.
Jake quickens the pace of his thrusts, and his hand moves to grab the leg that’s wrapped around his waist, instead pushing your knee up to your chest so he can plunge into you deeper. The new angle combined with the consistent pressure on your clit has you screaming out, and you pray that no one walks down the hall past this room right now because they’d definitely hear you.
The sensation of Jake’s thumb and forefinger harshly pinching your clit sends you over the edge, a loud, broken cry escaping your throat as he fucks you through it. His length continues to move in and out of you, hips never slowing their pace. The overstimulation leaves you a whimpering mess, nails clawing into Jake’s shoulder as he searches for his own high.
Jake is nearing his end too, the tightness of your walls constricting around his cock as you writhe and whimper underneath him makes his hips stutter as he slams into you. With a few more thrusts, he reaches his peak with a deep groan. His warm, sticky release coating your walls and you sigh blissfully at the feeling. Jake’s hips slow, not stopping fully until he’s spent, wanting to fill you up with every last drop of his cum.
Once he’s sure that you’ve milked him of every last bit, Jake pulls out of you gently and you whimper at the feeling. Missing the fullness of him already, a sigh escapes your lips as a mixture of his release and yours begins to dribble out between your thighs.
Jake moves to flip the two of you over so that you’re lying on top of him, your head resting upon his chest. You can feel his still-fast heartbeat against your ear, getting slower by the minute as he recovers from his high.
Your own heart is racing too and your mind is hazy as you wind down, you’re not sure that anyone has ever fucked you so good. Jake’s arms wrap around you, one hand reaching up into your hair and gently massaging your scalp as the other softly rubs at the skin of your back.
The two of you lay there for a while, cuddling and quietly talking about everything and nothing. Sharing details about yourselves, wanting to get to know each other a little better.
At some point, you pick up the bottle of champagne from the floor again, still resting on Jake’s chest as you pass it back and forth. Taking sips, both of you pleasantly buzzed—from both the alcohol and the orgasms—as you talk about your jobs, your families, anything and everything that comes to mind.
Eventually, the topic of discussion turns to the events of the day and the wedding, and Jake has you giggling as he makes some joke at your brother’s expense.
Spending time with Jake is easy. You feel giddy, yet comfortable in his embrace and his cocky-but-charming personality hasn’t failed yet to make you smile.
“Maybe we should get married.” The sarcastic tone of Jake’s voice lets you know he’s obviously joking, but his words still have you lifting your head from his bare chest to look up at him, a bit bemused.
“It would make my entire life to see the look on Rooster’s face when he has to tell people that I’m his brother-in-law.” Jake continues, looking down at you with that signature smirk, the mischievous mirth in his eyes eliciting a giggle from you.
Even though he doesn’t know you very well yet, Jake can’t help but think it might actually be pretty nice to be married to someone like you. Sweet, funny, beautiful–and Jake finds he really enjoys spending time with you.
“Yeah, I’d pay good money to see that.” You agree, your body being gently bounced around with the movement of Jake’s chest beneath you as he joins you in your laughter.
“Ok, so I know it’s a little soon for marriage, but I would like to take you out.” For the first time since you met him earlier that day, Jake actually seems a bit… nervous? The smile on his face is a bashful one and you find it’s adorable. From the stories your brother had told about the cocky pilot, you never would’ve thought you’d find him so endearing.
“Like… in the murdering sense?” You try to alleviate his nerves with a bit of humor and Jake’s subsequent deadpan stare has you giggling again. You lean up to press a kiss to his jaw. He pretends to be annoyed by your antics, but you can tell he’s trying not to smile.
“On a date.” He drawls with a dramatic eye roll. You suck in a breath and plaster a pensive look on your face, pretending for a moment like you actually need to think about his offer. You exhale with an exaggerated sigh.
“Ok.” Your arms tighten around Jake’s torso and you press a kiss to his chest.
“Yeah?” Jake tries to keep his cool, but he has a hard time hiding the excitement in his voice. He knows you can probably feel the way his heart has sped up beneath your cheek that’s resting against his skin too.
“Yes. I’d love to go out with you.” You lift your head to gaze up at him once more, trying to bite back your grin. But Jake’s thumb reaches up to release your bottom lip from between your teeth, gently running over the tender skin as he gazes down at you with those glittering green eyes. Yeah, you could get used to that.
The two of you stay wrapped up together on the sofa a little while longer, still talking quietly so as to not disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the ambiently-lit suite. You’re still lying on Jake’s chest, your legs intertwined with his, lulled into a hazy state of comfort as one of his hands lightly runs through your hair, lazily twirling the locks around his finger. His other hand is softly tracing patterns onto the bare skin of your back.
You and Jake have been gone a long while now, and you know if you don’t return to the party soon, Bradley is going to come looking for you. Deciding you’d rather not have your brother find you in such a compromising position with one of his friends, you begrudgingly lift your head from Jake’s chest.
“We should probably head back out there.” You say with little enthusiasm. “My brother’s gonna think you kidnapped me and send out a search party.”
You grumble, pouting as Jake’s hand lightly caresses over your hair. Cute.
He laughs at your sour expression and hums in agreement, sitting up on the couch. The movement of his body taking you with him as you’re still wrapped around him.
Jake ponders if he should maybe tell you about Bradley warning all of the men at his wedding away from you—but ultimately decides against it as you seem so content, so at ease with him. He didn’t want to ruin your good mood or cause problems between you and your brother. And, he really likes you. He doesn’t want to fuck this up.
Maybe he’d tell you one day when Bradley is really pissing him off, he thinks to himself with a smirk.
Jake helps you to your feet before standing up himself and stepping back into his boxers. He tells you to wait a moment while he runs into the bathroom that’s at the back of the room.
While you’re in the midst of securely clasping your bra back over your chest, Jake returns with a damp cloth, kneeling down to gently clean up his cum that’s now dried down the inside of your thighs, leaving a soft kiss to the skin of your hip.
Once you’re all cleaned up, Jake helps you step into your lace underwear, bracing yourself with a hand on his shoulder for balance as your legs still feel a bit like Jell-O after the earth-shattering orgasms he had given you.
He stands to help you back into your bridesmaid’s dress, leaning down to place featherlight kisses to your shoulder blades as he closes up the zipper. Jake even helps smooth down your hair—surely a mess from your earlier activities and his hands running through it—leaving a chaste kiss to your lips before he moves to re-dress himself. This time forgoing his tie in favor of stuffing it into his pocket.
With your heels strapped around your ankles once more, you let Jake lead you out of the suite. Your hand joined with his and your cheek resting against his shoulder as you navigate your way, side by side, back to the ballroom.
When you reach the double doors, you tug at Jake’s hand to stop him before he can open them. The blonde’s cute, inquisitive look reminds you of a golden retriever puppy and it makes your heart flutter. You reach up to cup his cheeks, pulling him in for a brief, but passionate kiss.
“Sorry, I just really wanted to do that again.” You tell him with a nervous laugh and he lets out a satisfied groan.
“Don’t be sorry, sweetheart.” Jake pulls you back in and you can feel the smirk on his lips as he attaches them to yours. The two of you spend the next few minutes just standing there, making out outside of the entrance to the ballroom.
Mouths moving languidly together, and you don’t hesitate to grant Jake’s tongue access when it runs along the seam of your lips. Tongues swirling lazily around one another trying to memorize the taste. When you finally pull back, your lips are swollen, and both you and Jake are beaming.
The reception is coming to an end, and you make it back into the slowly emptying ballroom just in time to see the happy newlyweds making their rounds about the room, accepting congratulations and thanking their guests for coming.
As they come across you and Jake, Natasha is all smiles while Bradley’s expression drops into one of annoyance, his hazel-eyed glare directed at Jake.
Never one to be intimidated by his best frenemy, Jake’s mouth forms into that distinctive smirk, extending the hand that wasn’t holding yours toward your brother.
“Congratulations, Rooster.” Jake speaks confidently. The two of them shake hands, not dissimilar to how they did after the success of the Uranium mission. Except this time, Bradley isn’t smiling.
By the happy look on your face and the fact that you’re not glaring at him—or trying to hit him—Bradley realizes that Jake must not have told you about his earlier warning to his groomsmen. Though he’s still annoyed with Jake for going against his wishes, he guesses that’s for the best. Maybe Natasha was right.
“Thanks, man.” Bradley’s face softens just barely.
“But, just know, if you hurt my little sister, I won’t hesitate to shoot your plane out of the sky. We clear?” Your brother continues, still shaking Jake’s hand all the while. Natasha watches the whole exchange, trying not to laugh.
“Bradley-!” Eyes widening, you try to intercept but Jake stops you, giving your hand a light squeeze.
“No, no. It’s okay, Sweets.” You can hear the mirth in his voice when he says it, knowing he’s going to get a reaction out of Bradley.
“SWEETS?!” Your brother all but shrieks, ripping his hand away from Jake’s as if he’s been burned and Natasha is no longer able to hold back her laughter. The pouty glare he gives her in return ends up pulling a snicker out of you too. Jake chuckles haughtily and wraps an arm around your shoulders before addressing your brother again.
“I’m not gonna do anything to hurt her, Bradshaw. I promise. You have my word.” You smile sweetly up at Jake, delighted by his words.
Your brother grumbles in agreement, recognizing the sincerity in his friend’s voice in that moment, before the two of them shake hands once more. Then, Jake offers the bride a hug and his congratulations, and tells you he’ll give you a moment with you brother, that he’ll be waiting for you by the exit.
With Jake making his exit, your brother’s face finally softens as he turns his attention to you.
That is, until he glances down a bit and you know that he’s clocked the very obvious hickey blooming on the side of your neck when his expression hardens again. You can swear you see his eye twitch and you have to refrain from laughing. Luckily, for both of your sakes, he doesn’t bring it up.
Bradley just sighs before shaking his head. For the first time since the breakup, his little sister looks genuinely happy and if that’s the case, then he’s happy too.
“Hangman… really?” He scrunches his nose and at that, you simply shrug at him with an amused grin.
Your brother groans, “I don’t know what happened, and I don’t wanna know.”
“Deal.” The two of you share a laugh and Bradley pulls you into a tight bear-hug, which you return gratefully.
“Love you, sis.” He murmurs into the crown of your hair. “Love you too, Bradley.”
Natasha watches the sweet moment between her new husband and sister-in-law with a smile.
“I’m really happy for you, big bro. And so proud. Mom and Dad would be too.” Your arms tighten around him as you quietly deliver the sentiment.
You turn your gaze toward Natasha to let her know that you’re now addressing her as well. “Congratulations!”
When Bradley releases you from his embrace, Nat pulls you in for a hug as well. With that, they bid you goodnight and make your way back over to Jake who’s waiting for you by the ballroom doors.
Bradley opens his arm for his wife to step under, which Natasha does gladly, her own arm draping around Bradley’s waist as his moves to wrap around her shoulders. The couple watches on as you cross the room to reach the cockiest member of the Dagger squad.
“I actually think they’re kinda cute together.” Natasha’s tone is a jesting one, but there’s definitely some truth to her statement. Bradley just tilts his head up toward the ceiling, eyes clenched shut as he groans in response.
With the festivities coming to a close, you find yourself incredibly tired. After such a long day–and all the exertion with Jake that evening, you’re more than ready for a good night’s sleep. Fortunately for you, everyone was staying in the hotel at which the reception was held, so it wasn’t a long commute.
Despite your increasing exhaustion though, you were reluctant to bid Jake goodnight.
“So… I guess, if you want, you could walk me to my room? Or…” You trail off, leaving the ball in his court. A tad nervous now, blinking up at him with a bright-eyed, hopeful expression, unsure if Jake will get the hint.
But he definitely does, and the expectant look on your beautiful face makes him smile. What you don’t know is that Jake isn’t quite ready for his time with you tonight to come to an end either.
“Or… you could come back to mine?” He finishes the sentence for you, his grin morphing into more of a smirk, but his tone remains sincere. Placing your hands on his chest, you lean up to peck Jake’s lips.
“I’d love to.” You speak softly against his lips and Jake can feel you smiling. “Just don’t tell my brother.”
Your cheeky remark has Jake letting out a throaty chuckle, his breath warming your cheek before he briefly presses his lips to yours more firmly.
“How else am I gonna piss him off?” Jake jests and you retreat from the kiss, playfully smacking his chest. Shaking your head as the two of you share another laugh. His hands move to slide up the bare skin of your arms as you pull back and Jake can feel the goosebumps forming there.
He removes his suit jacket, leaving him in just his dress shirt, and carefully drapes it over your shoulders. The coat dwarfs your smaller frame, and Jake decides he loves the way you look all wrapped up in his clothes.
“Come on, Sweets. Let’s get you to bed.” Jake softly drawls. The look you give him is one of pure adoration as he takes your hand in his and leads you out into the halls of the hotel.
And though you’re most definitely tired, you have an inkling you’d be more than okay with spending a couple more hours wide awake with Jake when you get up to his room.

SYNOPSIS: drunk hookup, no names exchanged, bradley is a pussy eating king.
PAIRING: Bradley Bradshaw x Reader
Tumblr media
You pant, breathing heavily
“W-What’s your name again?”
A head pops up from in between your legs, giving you a sight that makes you delirious from the sheer sexiness of it all.
He’s golden, the warm light from the bedside table lamp, casting a glow on his pink cheeks. Dog tags hang from his collar bones.
He’s got pretty eyes, a strong nose and a shit-eating grin covered by a mustache that’s dripping in your slick.
You hadn’t even had time to even exchange names, only knowing that you were mutual friends of Jake who met at tonight’s party. One too many shots later and you’re here getting eaten out by a fighter pilot you don’t even know the name of.
He comes forward, leaning into your breath as he mutters softly. “Bradley. Bradshaw.”
You moan, feeling how his hands slide up your body as he utters his name, embarrassingly squirming under his touch.
“Say it back” He requests, deep brown eyes gazing into yours.
You oblige, moaning his name in a breathless whisper.
“Bradley”
He smiles, kissing you to shut you up before he goes down back in between your legs, pecks littered against the flesh of your inner thighs.
“Say my name and then ask me to eat you out”
You almost can’t believe your ears. You look down, gripping the sheets as you stare the smug bastard down.
“Nicely” he adds, pressing a kiss to your puffy clit as he smirks.
You throw your head back, eyes shutting as you mumble embarrassingly. “Eat me bradley”
His hands roam to your tits, giving them a squeeze
“Louder” he replies, muffled as he’s concentrated in stuffing his face in your vagina, choosing to give small unsatisfying licks until you say it properly.
You cry out, chest rising. “Eat me out, Bradley” you grit, moaning when he finally swipes his nose along your pussy, giving you what you want.
“I don’t like you.” you huff, glaring at the head of hair you’re running your hands through.
You feel him smile against your mound, coming up to snarkily change the topic.
“What’s your name?”

So happy that you added top gun maverick to your fandom list. If you’re up for it could you do a Rooster x reader enemies to lovers where he’s in love with her but doesn’t want to get attached to anyone cause what happened to his dad and his repressed feelings manifest as him teasing and picking on her. She takes it like a champ and throws it right back at him (which only makes him fall for her more). One day she gets hurt (she can be another pilot or something else if you’d prefer) and she’s expecting him to make fun of her for fucking up but instead he’s very serious about taking care of her. Then they both confess their feelings for each other.

y/c means your callsign btw
In a world as crazy as that of the US Navy pilots, you’ve learned to treasure the brief moments of peace. They come few and far between, usually overshadowed by missions of great calamity. Those you can find, though, are certainly wonderful indeed.
You’re in the midst of one of such instances of tranquility now, staring over the railing of a balcony high up in one of the administrative buildings. It offers you a beautiful view of the ocean, which is not too far off in the distance. It’s just you and your best friend Phoenix. Also the pilot you hate most of all briskly walking your way.
Rooster.
No.
Thus another blissful moment is ruined. You turn to Natasha with a look of utter horror, and she has to clap a hand over her mouth to stop from breaking out in laughter. You glance around for a chance to flee, but Bradshaw’s too close, there’s nothing you can do but face him.
His footsteps stop behind you, and your knuckles tighten on the balcony railing. “Rooster. How wonderful of you to ruin my morning.”
You don’t have to look behind you to know that Rooster’s fixing you with the same smug grin he always seems to wear whenever you’re around. “Y/C. Still searching for ways to be faster than me? I admit, the ocean is pretty big and beautiful and all that, but it still might not be deep enough to hold all the secrets you’d need to beat my records.”
You snort. “A puddle would hold all the secrets I’d need to beat you. I already do that.”
You turn around at last, and Bradley folds his arms across his chest, the perfect picture of military indignation. “Is that so?” He asks slowly, “because I seem to remember Maverick struggling way more to take me out yesterday morning than he did for you.”
“I recall it being the opposite that afternoon,” you reply. “I wouldn’t blame you for having a bad memory, though. You’re bad at everything.”
By your side, Phoenix makes a choking sound that’s most likely her trying to disguise another laugh. “Keep it down, you guys. We only get one morning off from practice, and I’m trying to enjoy it without the constant sound of you two sniping at each other.”
“You don’t have to worry about Rooster sniping at me,” you say pleasantly, “he’d never hit. Just like in a plane.”
You think you see Rooster’s jaw drop, just a little. “So not true. I’d kick your ass in a dogfight any day if Maverick would let us fight each other instead of him.”
You arch a brow. “Then how about you ask him to let us fight? You’re close to him, aren’t you? Go use your advantage for an actual result instead of just trying to get a better showing than me. At least that’s a reasonable goal.”
Bradley scoffs. “That so? I think you’d go down in about half a second.”
“Not a chance,” you declare, “I’d have you in my sights in less time than it takes you to do a roll.”
“Prove it,” Rooster says, “I’d hate to think you’re just talk.”
During the course of the conversation/expressions of deep hatred, you and Bradley have slowly gravitated towards each other, unconsciously taking a step forward in an attempt to get the upper hand. Right now, the two of you are practically breathing down each other’s shirts, neither willing to back down first.
It takes Natasha sighing exasperatedly and shoving the two of you apart for the situation to ease. “Back off, you two. Is it possible for you to stop fighting for two seconds? You’re worse than Hangman.”
You chuckle. “That’s a pretty terrible comparison. Alright, Nat, let’s go somewhere with a better view. I’m getting tired of this one at the moment.”
You widen your eyes in mock horror as you say it, and Rooster rolls his eyes. Ignoring him, you link your arm around Phoenix’s and lead her away.
Natasha starts grinning once Bradley is out of earshot. “You guys are insane, you know that? At some point, you’re going to have to stop flirting with each other and actually go get drinks or something.”
You nearly choke on your own indignation. “Flirting? Natasha Trace, you must be out of your mind. I’m not flirting in the slightest.”
“You must be serious, you’re using my full name,” Phoenix muses, “but you’re wrong. You guys have more tension than anyone I’ve ever seen.”
“Yeah,” you agree, “tension because we hate each other. Bad tension.”
“Good tension,” she argues, “because you love each other dearly.”
You shove her on the shoulder, but the action only serves to make Natasha’s smile broaden. “You can’t say anything to convince me otherwise,” she reminds you, “I know what I see.”
You roll your eyes. “You might have to get your vision checked if you’re that blind.”
Despite your comebacks, you can’t be annoyed with Phoenix forever, even if she’s way off in her predictions of what is to come between you and Rooster. She’s your best friend, both among the pilots and outside of work.
That’s why she must know better than to think that you and Bradley would ever be interested in each other that way. First of all, Rooster would never allow that to happen, your own feelings be damned. He’s been a lone wolf since day one. Sure, he’ll talk to his friends, and get drinks with a big crowd just like anyone else, but he’s not looking for anyone closer than a buddy from work. That much is certain.
There are rumors, of course, about why that would be. Some whisper that Bradley lost his father in an airplane crash and so he refuses to let himself get attached to any one pilot out of fear of history repeating itself. Others say that he’s so competitive about getting the top result that he wouldn’t want to weaken himself by tying himself to another pilot.
Regardless, you know one thing for sure:  Rooster is not the kind of person to fall for you. Ever. From the moment he met you, Bradley’s been teasing you nonstop. The two of you engage in verbal warfare every time you’re stuck in a room together for longer than a minute. During aerial practice, the two of you risk your necks to outdo each other, and back on solid ground, you’re firing comebacks at each other like missiles.
Thus, the force of Bradley’s obstinance alone could thwart any idea of yours. There are no ideas of yours, though, none in the slightest. Rooster is a thorn in your side, a too-clever piece trying to stop you from crossing the chess board and beating him once and for all. If you have ever looked at him with different eyes, ones that shine instead of glare, that must be blamed on too many drinks or too many late nights. Anything else would be traitorous.
So, you turn your focus towards doing better, always doing better. Maverick’s demands for his selected group of pilots are a hair short of perfection; seeing as you’re one of them, you have to cross that line, be flawless as no other fighter pilot can be. You are the best of the best, but you must prove it every single time you crawl into your cockpit.
Maybe that’s why you end up pushing harder than you should during daily practice. Maybe that’s why you ignore every warning thrown your way that you’re going to get in trouble. In the end, you do, but not over a disciplinary violation. Instead, the danger headed your way is physical.
You didn’t crash. You feel like that should be stated another dozen times. Your plane was never impacted, nor was anyone harmed. The whole thing happened so quickly that you’d swear it was just a figment of your imagination were it not for the radio logs played over and over again, showing just what you did.
More specifically, the comms show what you didn’t do, and that was stay conscious during the flight. You’ve been burning the candle at both ends just trying to keep your place ahead of the other pilots, and it’s finally slowing you down instead of speeding you up. You were coming out of a sharp dive when the exhaustion took its toll.
You passed out then and there. Maverick’s shouting over your comms didn’t do anything to wake you up. Your eyes opened when you were far below the hard deck, plummeting towards the ground. It took every bit of skill in you to pull the nose of your plane up and save yourself from fiery impact.
Even after you landed, your trouble wasn’t over. You barely managed to climb out of the cockpit before you were passing out again, tumbling over the edge of the plane and falling towards the hard ground below. Your head would have struck the concrete if it weren’t for someone managing to catch you, and of all the people to be your savior, it was Rooster.
That still bewilders you. You ended up staying in the medical wing for a couple of hours with an IV to get your stats back to normal, but you’ve been cleared since then, let go with a warning to take it easy. From the moment you regained consciousness and learned what happened, you haven’t been able to stop wondering why Bradley would have been the one to catch your falling body and not any one of the other pilots.
For one thing, he would have had to act quickly to notice and grab you before your head hit the ground. For another, he would have had to be by your plane in the first place. That means Bradley was waiting for you, something he has obviously never done before. The whole situation makes no sense, and your mood isn’t exactly lifted to see Rooster waiting for you by the door of the med wing when you finally get out.
He’s been leaning up against the wall, but straightens up when he sees you. “Y/C. Good to see you upright.”
Your head is still a little fuzzy, and you really, really don’t want to hear him sniping at you, especially not after the results of the day. You don’t lose control, not when you’re in a plane. You can already picture him calling you out for that little lapse, so you decide to cut to the chase and cut him off before Bradley gets the chance.
You hold up a hand before he can say anything else. “I don’t want to hear it,” you warn him.
Rooster blinks in surprise. “Hear what?”
You laugh bitterly. “You’re here to make fun of me for passing out, obviously. If I hear a single joke about me falling for you, I’ll kick your knees in, how about that?”
“Well, I’d prefer if my knees stay intact,” Rooster says slowly, “besides, that’s not why I’m here.”
You stare at him, confused. “Why the hell else would you be here?”
Bradley spreads his hands. “To check in on you. You’ve got us all worried, Y/C. I just happen to prefer you alive rather than dead, and I wanted to make sure you were going to stay that way.”
This takes you by surprise. “Really?”
He laughs. “Is it really that much of a shocker that I might care about if you’re alright? I saw you fall when you were in that plane. I thought you wouldn’t be able to save yourself. I haven’t been shaken like that since–”
Bradley cuts himself off abruptly, but you sense what he was trying to say. No one has clear memories when they’re that young, but losing your father would do something to remind you of what it’s like to hurt.
You reach over and gently place a hand on Rooster’s back. “I’m okay,” you assure him, “due in part to someone making sure I stayed that way. Thanks for catching me.”
“Thanks for catching yourself when you were in the air,” he replies back, “that would have been harder for me to stop. Just don’t make it a habit. I’m not used to doubting you.”
You laugh. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you be this nice to me. Keep doing it, will you?”
Rooster’s smile is soft when you look back at him. “I don’t think that’s going to be a problem.”
It occurs to you that Phoenix might have been right. You’ll have to check in with her later and ask what other revelations she’d been keeping from you. In the meantime, you’re perfectly content to walk back with Bradley, to talk and be happy with him. You don’t think you need anything else. Not even a top finish.

Dogfight Football

Written for Fictober 2023!
Fandom: Top Gun
Day 3 Prompt: "Okay, show me."
Summary: Hangman gets hurt during Dogfight Football. Lucky for him, he's dating a navy doctor.
Word Count: 1,715
Category: Fluff, humor, little bit of angst
Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
I scowled as I scribbled in my notebook, trying to prepare for an upcoming test by making flash cards. All my friends and my boyfriend were outside on the beach playing something called 'Dogfight Football', but I was holed up here, at a table in the back of the Hard Deck, trying to memorize medical terms and procedures.
Stupid fighter pilots.
Being on temporary assignment at Top Gun at the same time as my boyfriend, Jake Seresin, was supposed to mean we got to spend more time together. And I guess we'd gotten to spend a little more time together, but I'd built it up in my mind as something much more romantic and exciting than navy training. I really should've known better, but I'd been on a ship in the middle of the ocean treating various illnesses for everyone on board for months. The romantic fantasy had been one of the only things getting me through.
At least I had tonight to look forward to. Jake and I were going to a fancy restaurant off base for dinner, then out somewhere to dance the night away. Neither of us had to report for duty until the afternoon tomorrow, so we could ditch some of our usual healthy habits.
I'd finally managed to finish my flash cards and block out most of the noise from outside when someone came bursting through the back door of the Hard Deck. I looked up to find the cause of the disturbance and found Coyote, one of Jake's best friends, staring at me.
"What happened?" I asked, shooting out of my seat immediately. Coyote looked stressed, which never happened unless something was actually wrong.
"Hangman got hurt," he said. I rushed to the bar and grabbed my med kit without hesitating, even as Coyote continued. "He was trying to pull a stunt on a touchdown in the game, and there was some pit or something hidden by the sand. I'm not totally sure what happened, but he went down hard. I think it's something with his leg."
I shook my head, cursing every last reckless aviator on that beach as I followed Coyote out the door.
"He wouldn't be the first one to fall into a literal sand trap and hurt himself. Let's just be glad he didn't break his neck showing off."
Once we got outside, I could see Jake clearly, laying in the sand not too far from the surf. The rest of the Top Gun fliers were gathered around him, and the fact that he hadn't forced himself to his feet to play it cool around them told me he was really, really hurt.
I started running as soon as Jake was in sight, cutting through the aviators and dropping to my knees as soon as I was in range of Jake. He looked up when he saw me and tried to smile, but it ended up being more of a grimace than anything else.
"Hey, Baywatch. Come to check on me?"
I snorted. "What did you do?"
"I was trying to do a flip."
"Oh my God."
"I've done one before! But when I landed, the sand just gave way, and my leg..."
He trailed off, wincing, one hand holding his leg and the other clenched in a tight fist in the sand. Nothing looked broken from here, but with his hand in the way, I couldn't be sure.
"It hurts," he said, voice a strangled whisper so that only I could hear. Jake looked at me, face tight with pain, and my heart squeezed seeing him like that. "It hurts a lot."
"Okay, show me," I said, falling into the cool calm that overtook me in emergency situations. "I need you to move your hand and show me where it hurts, alright?"
Jake nodded, then gingerly removed his hand to rest it with the other one in the sand. Coyote and Maverick had moved the others a little further away after I'd arrived, so we had some privacy. Jake groaned and barely stifled a scream as I reached out to gently touch his ankle, shin, and knee to asses. To his credit, his leg didn't move an inch.
After a few more painful minutes of assessment, I sat back on my heels and looked at my boyfriend. He looked back, body slightly less tensed but his teeth still clenched.
"So? What's the verdict, doc?"
"The verdict is you're insanely lucky," I said, turning to dig in my medical bag. I pulled out what I'd need to splint Jake's ankle, then got to work as I continued. "It's not uncommon for people to break their legs, bad, from falling into pits hidden by the sand. You, fortunately, didn't fall hard enough or twist enough or find a deep enough pit to quite break your leg. Instead, you've got a bad sprain. It's definitely not good, but based on what I'm seeing now, I think you'll have an easier time with this level of sprain than if you'd broken something."
Jake nodded, then winced again as I tightened the brace on his ankle. It wasn't good enough to last for long, but it would keep his ankle immobilized while I found a way to get him to my office where I had supplies to actually treat him more long-term.
"You're gonna be okay," I said, leaning over once I'd finished working and kissing Jake on the forehead. "I'm sorry you got hurt. Stop doing dangerous things to showboat with your friends."
Jake huffed a laugh and gave me the same overconfident, cocky smile that I'd seen a thousand times and slowly fallen in love with, albeit slightly more strained than normal.
"I can't make any promises about the last one. Thank you for taking care of me."
"Always. And you're going to hate what comes next, so... I guess just remember that it's part of what happens when you insist on doing beach-flips in a game."
"What do you-"
"Rooster!" I turned to call to the tall aviator, who'd wandered a little ways away with everyone else. He turned and started walking back as soon as he heard me.
"What's up?"
"I need your help getting Jake to my truck," I replied. Rooster grinned, and I heard Jake groan from behind me. This time, I didn't think it was from the pain.
"Sure thing. Happy to help."
"Can't you get anyone else," whined Jake as Rooster made it to us. I put my hands on my hips and stared him down.
"Rooster's the person on this beach who'll have the easiest time lifting you and carrying you out to the car. I love Coyote and everyone else, and I'm sure they'd figure it out if they needed to, but Roos is gonna be able to just do it."
Jake grumbled, and I caught Rooster with a shit-eating grin as he leaned down and picked Jake up. I just sighed and shook my head at both of them as we headed back up the beach.
"This is ridiculous," said Jake, renewing his protest as we neared the rest of the Top Gun class. "Just put an arm around me and help me up, I don't need to be carried-"
I whirled around, hands on my hips and a scowl on my face. I'd heard Jake twisting around like he was trying to get Rooster to put him down, and if he wasn't careful, he'd get dropped and hurt even worse than before. Both men froze on the spot as soon as I glared at them.
"Jake, grow up," I said, no more room for argument in my voice. "You can't walk. If you move your ankle around or put too much weight on it, you could make it much, much worse. Which is obviously bad for a lot of reasons, but would ground you from flying for who knows how long."
Jake huffed and crossed his arms, but he didn't have any comeback to that. I stared him down for another few moments, until Rooster shifted and cleared his throat.
"Hey, he's not as light as he looks, so-"
"Shut up, Chicken."
I just sighed and continued leading the both of them up the beach. I shot a few glares at Jake's peers as we went, reminding them with just a look that if they started messing with Jake, I had more than enough dirt on all of them to bury them in return. Phoenix was the only one to smile back at me in response.
By some miracle, we made it up the beach and through the Hard Deck without Rooster dropping Jake or Jake punching Rooster. Roos helped me get Jake into the passenger seat of my car, then I chased him off with a quick 'thank you' before he could give Jake any more shit. Once he was gone, I paused a second to sigh and catch my breath, then climbed into the driver's seat.
"So... what now?" asked Jake.
"Now, we go back to base so I can treat you properly and get you a real ankle brace. Maybe some X-Rays, we'll have to see. Painkillers, though, for sure."
Jake nodded, uncharacteristically quiet as I pulled out of the parking lot and onto the main road. Then, after a second, he spoke, more quiet and serious than usual.
"Thank you for taking such good care of me. Seriously. And I'm sorry I messed up our date night, after we'd both been waiting for it for so long."
I sighed, then turned to Jake with a lopsided smile.
"I've always got your back, Jake. I'm your wingman in life, remember? And don't worry about date night. If you're feeling up to it, we can still go to dinner. If you're not, we've still got the evening to ourselves. I'm sure we can find something fun to do, just the two of us."
Jake chuckled. "I like the sound of that."
"Hm. Just hang in there, flyboy. We're almost back to base, and then we can get you feeling better."
"I almost hate to ask, but... what's your plan for getting me out of the car and into the doctor's office?"
I hesitated, chewing my lip before turning to Jake. He winced at just the expression on my face, because he knew me well enough to know he would need to.
"...How would you feel if I recruited a certain Vice Admiral to carry you?"
"Fuck."

Word Count: 3.3k +
Tumblr media
“You’re being dumb, and you know it.” Natasha rolled her eyes before turning back to the traffic light the two of you were stopped at, heading towards the Hard Deck. Your usual Friday night hangout spot after yet another grueling training session with Maverick. He was kicking all of your sorry asses right into shape.
Leaning back into the seat you refused to look at her instead keeping your eyes trained out the window, “He doesn’t like me like that. He’s not a relationship guy Nat. He’s said it a hundred damn times. Why would I be any different?” Sighing in frustration Nat noticed you toying with the hem of your shirt, a nervous habit she picked up on after only you for a short while.
“Because you’re you? He told me yesterday how much he likes you.” She sighed in annoyance as she kept her eyes on the road even though she wanted to slap some sense into you. She often had to restrain herself from quite literally beating you up sometimes.
“As a friend! He likes me as a friend you doofus.” You added on knowing he couldn’t possibly return the feelings you had for him.
She scoffed while very visibly rolling her eyes at you, “Can’t believe you called me a doofus you dork.” She sighed before letting you continue the conversation, “Listen, all the two of you do is flirt. He’s constantly staring at you when you aren’t eye fucking him right on back. I haven’t seen two people get along so easily before in this line of work. Might as well embrace what you have while you have a chance.”
“Whatever. I’ll talk to him tonight.” You didn’t want to admit defeat, but you were growing rather tired of going back and forth with her on it. If there was one thing she was it was adamant, and this was the only way to get her to be quiet about it.
Her eyes lit up almost as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing from your mouth, “Really?”
“Yeah, yeah. If it comes up naturally I will.” You nodded your head thankful she was pulling into the bar already. There was a reason everybody from base went here after work, it was close. And you couldn’t be more thankful to be out of the car away from her prying eyes.
She shut the car off turning back to you, “Good enough for me. Now go in there and get your man.” She smirked knowing it’d set you off. She was right of course.
“Not my man.” You grumbled before happily hopping out of her car that was suffocating with her pressing you on the topic of Lieutenant Jake Seresin.
Of course, you’d love to take the next step with him. You practically threw yourself at the guy every time you hung out with him. But he never seemed to take your advances for what they were. Maybe you weren’t forward enough? Or maybe he just wasn’t a relationship kind of guy. You shuddered at that thought. He’d eventually be a relationship kind of guy. When he wanted to be. Why couldn’t it be with you?
When you walked through the front door and over to your usual spot you didn’t spot him right away. Instead, you spotted Bob and Rooster in the corner chatting away about something intently. Sitting down next to them you waited for their conversation to conclude before interrupting them.
“Hey Y/N.” Bob acknowledged you after a minute. You didn’t mind. Your eyes were busy scanning for Jake. Much to your annoyance you didn’t see him. Was he not here yet? That’d be off, he always beat you to the bar. Always saved a seat for you.
“Hey guys.” You nodded at the both of them with distraction written all over your face.
Rooster smiled over at you knowing exactly who you were looking for, “He’s on the other side of the bar with a friend.”
“Who is?” You couldn’t hide the blush that appeared out of thin air just at the thought of Jake. Were you really that easy to read?
“Hangman.” Rooster leaned forward challenging you, “The guy you’ve been looking for since you walked in.” Bob couldn’t help the small laugh that came from his friends joke.
“I have not.” Your eyes looked everywhere but his.
Bradley laughed, “Sure. Go on then. Go get a drink or something. Definitely don’t go looking for Jake or anything.”
You stook quickly, gracious of his out, “Am I that bad of company?” You mocked offence.
“Hardly.” He smiled shaking his head at your usual antics. Rooster had come to like you quite a bit. You were sharp as a tack, deadly in the air and kinder than they usually came. He’d be a fool not to befriend you. An asset he knew he’d need in the future, “It’s our company I fear that is not nearly riveting enough for you.”
You giggled shaking your head at him, “You’re something else Roos.” Before he could reply you walked over to the bar ordering a drink but also looking for the man who’d taken your heart so effortlessly.
When your eyes scanned the other side of the bar your heart nearly stopped when you finally spotted the guy you’d been looking for. He was sitting there talking, no laughing, with a beautiful blonde woman. Your mouth ran dry as your heart rate picked up at a rapid pace. She was absolutely breathtaking. Far, far more beautiful than you could ever hope to even come close to. If he was chatting her up so easily then how in the hell did you ever think you stood chance with man? Nat was right. You were just you.
You’d let Nat’s words get to your head and get yourself into thinking he’d actually want you. How could you have been so damn stupid? Your eyes watched them carefully as they both seemed overjoyed to be in such an intense conversation going on.
It was Penny who knocked you out of the longing stare that had your thoughts consumed so entirely, “Drink?” She asked.
“Uh, actually I’m alright. Thanks Pen.” You waved her off not wanting to get stuck here longer than you wanted.
She gave you a confused looked before turning away back to her paying customers. You walked out in a half daze thinking about the pretty blonde woman who had captured Jake’s attention whole so easily. You’d managed to avoid everybody on your way out including your ever so nosy friend. You decided to walk home, it was only about a half mile back to your apartment. You’d done it a hundred times before. You were just usually a little drunk and not so heartbroken.
Tumblr media
In your mind it was best to simply turn your phone to silent and flip it over while you watched reruns of your favorite shows once you got home. You’d decided it was best to throw yourself a little mini pity party mourning a relationship that’d never be. So that’s exactly what you did. Ignored your phone and watched television. That was your first mistake. Your second was ignoring the knocks on the door. Instead, you turned the TV up just a little louder pretending you couldn’t hear it. Once the heavy banging on the door commenced you knew you could no longer ignore it.
You flung the door open in irritation not knowing who exactly it was but assuming it was Nat, “Would you quiet down? You’re going to get me in trouble…” The words stopped dead in your mouth as you observed Jake on the other side of the door and not Nat. Jake. Shit.
“You didn’t answer my texts.” He frowned giving you a once over scan that you would’ve missed if your eyes weren’t so trained on his. He was checking to make sure you were physically fine. You knew that.
“I turned my phone on silent. Wanted a night to myself.” You answered him before continuing with your own question, “What are you doing here?”
“Or my calls. You ignored my calls.” His frown deepened as he scanned your apartment behind you now. What was he looking for?
You sighed now, getting a little frustrated with his seemingly impromptu visit, “I told you. My phone is on silent in another room.”
That snapped him out of whatever he was doing. You usually didn’t have such a hostile tone with him. Everything with you was usually so gentle. The hostility was left for the skies, “Why? Why weren’t you at the Hard Deck tonight? Nat said you came in with her?” He looked so confused, almost hurt?
You nodded, “I did. I just felt, unwell.” It wasn’t an outright lie. Seeing Jake with that beautiful blonde woman made you more nauseous than you’d like to admit.
“Oh okay.” He frowned giving you another once over, “Are you alright?” He took a step to the side looking almost bashful. Not as confident as he normally came off. It was odd to see him so out of sorts. What was the reason? Surely it couldn’t have been you.
You took a moment to contemplate his question. You were fine, certainly. Just a little devastated for something that would never occur. A future you yearned for that would never begin. But you were fine.
“I’m alright. Why are you here Jake?” You asked once more not stepping away from the front door. Not letting him in but not shooing him away either. You’d usually let him waltz through without a worry, but something was stopping you.
“To check in. I got worried when you wouldn’t answer. You always do.” He answered without a beat. He didn’t look l
“Oh.” You nodded at him. That was kind. That was very much like him, “Sorry to make you stop by.”
He shook his head, “It’s alright.” He kept looking you over. You were playing with the hem of your shirt again. Things were awkward. Uncomfortable. You were nervous and he wasn’t saying what he wanted. Unsure of what to say you just looked down. Not ending the conversation but not making it move forward either.
“Well, goodnight.” You said after a few moments of painful silence. There wasn’t usually this much tension between the two of you. It felt wrong. There was never usually such an air of awkwardness such as there was now.
“No, wait.” He put his hand on the doorframe so you couldn’t shut the door. Not that you were planning to shut it in his face, “Is everything alright Y/N? I don’t… I don’t know what happened or what I did.” He paused giving you a genuine look of confusion and concern. A look you weren’t terribly familiar with from the man.
He was right. How would he know? You were being weird and secretive. And now that you knew he was probably dating that girl you couldn’t air out your love to him. That’d just ruin the friendship you’d grown to love with him.
So instead, you had to deflect a bit, “I didn’t want to interrupt you.”
He turned his head in confusion at that, “Pardon?”
“Uh,” Might as well spit out some of the truth, “Tonight. Was going to tell you I was heading home but then I saw you talking to the woman. She was pretty.” You added the last sentence in almost silence hoping he couldn’t detect the jealousy radiating from your body. It wasn’t easy to hide, no.
He crinkled his eyes together, “Who?”
Was he playing dumb? Could the interaction have been so minute that he didn’t even recognize just how gorgeous the woman was? You bit the inside of your mouth to hide your dissatisfied frown, “The blonde woman you were talking to in the booth?”
He cocked his head to the side. First a wave of confusion crossed his face then recognition of the interaction must’ve crossed as his once confused face turned to realization, “You mean Amy?” His smile turned to a knowing smirk once he put two and two together. Jake was anything but dumb. In fact, he was quite intelligent. It hit him as to why your mood would have turned so sour towards him so quickly.
“Amy?” You asked playing right into his hand. He had you now and you didn’t even know it.
He nodded leaning onto the side of the apartment building, “Yup. She was my commanding officer back in Virginia. We were catching up for a moment.” He nodded his head watching you as he reveled in your realization of who he chatting with. He also knew how pretty she was. Jake had thought so since the moment he had laid eyes on her all those years ago. There was a slight problem though, she wasn’t exactly into men. And she wasn’t afraid to let those around her know it. Apparently, you hadn’t picked up on it though. And Jake decided he’d tease you about it for a bit.
“Oh.” You said again as you took a step back while crossing your arms over your chest. It wasn’t exactly an invitation inside the apartment, but it wasn’t not either. Jakes eyebrows quirked up quickly as he realized he was getting somewhere with you. It was cute. You were jealous. You’d been so good at hiding any emotion he wasn’t sure if you actually liked him back. Nat had assured him that you did, and you were just afraid at showing it. Afraid of the consequences once you dove headfirst in. But this was a sign, albeit a small one.
He bobbed his head up and down while taking a small step forward, “Oh indeed.” He gave you a wry smile as his eyes traced over your face, “She was just telling me about how she and her wife were looking at adopting once they get settled out here.”
Your eyes rose in recognition of what he had told you, “Her wife?”
He took another small step forward, shrinking the already small space between the two of you, “Of three years. I was invited to the wedding. It was nice.” He grinned knowing he had you now. Your little outburst and show looked a little silly. He knew you felt embarrassed because he knew you. He adored you. He had begun to love you.
You looked down letting a small sigh of defeat out. You did feel embarrassed. Mortified actually. This is why you didn’t jump to conclusions. This right here. You stepped away from the door officially inviting him inside. He’d done nothing wrong. And even if he was flirting with a pretty blonde girl he would’ve done nothing wrong. You didn’t have any claim over him. Crap. You’d just made an unknowing mess of everything.
Jake didn’t hesitate at your invitation in. A sort of nonverbal apology he happily accepted. He sat down on the couch opposite of you giving you a smile, “You don’t look sick.” He said to you.
“I feel better.” You gave him a quick nod knowing your cheeks were beginning to flush right in front of him.
“Did your illness have anything to do with Amy?” He pressed deciding he wanted to cross the invisible line between the two of you tonight. Your acting out showed him just how much you actually did like him.
“No!” You were quick to answer, far too quick.
His little grin grew into that signature Jake smirk. The one that was often reflected at you in a much different light. Not like this. Not like he’d caught you doing something because he actually did.
“You sure about that?” He leaned so far froward you were sure he was trying to touch you now. Egg you on. Press your buttons. Cross the line. Maybe Nat wasn’t wrong? Maybe he did have feelings?
With wide eyes you shook your head, “No.”
He scooted over on the couch, so he was sitting next to you now. He reached out, placing a hand on your knee, “You seem… a little jealous?”
Your eyes were staring right at his hand that seemed to engulf your knee. You tried to answer him, really. But when you opened your mouth not a sound would come out. You shut your mouth in an instant before turning to him knowing he was right. You were a little jealous. But did you really have to admit it to him?
He leaned a bit closer to you, running his hand just a touch up your leg, before whispering in your ear, “For what it’s worth, I think it’s adorable that you’re a little jealous.”
Thankful for him giving you a little relief you finally found your words again, “You do?”
The smirk turned down into a soft smile as he saw the lack of confidence in your face. Had he not done enough to assure you of how he really felt? He’d thought he made it pretty obvious.
“I do. I think it’s really cute. Wanna know another little secret I’ve been keeping from you?” He asked you.
Your heart rate involuntarily picked up at that, “Yes.” It sounded more of a whisper than anything else. But you couldn’t quite help it. You were nervous. He made you terribly nervous.
“I think you’re the prettiest woman I’ve ever got to know.” He smiled watching your reaction. It was nice seeing you so expressive with him. You’d always been so cautious and reserved with him. Collected and calculated. But you no longer had to be. Not when he’d been so outright with it now.
“Now, I know you’re joking.” You laughed not so sure of his admission to you. But his face said otherwise.
“Have I lied to you before?” He asked knowing the answer was an easy no.
You shook your head in response, “No.”
He smiled softly moving his hand from your leg to your hand, “Why would I start now then?”
You gulped at the seriousness in his tone and through his expression. He wasn’t lying. He was out here admitting his feelings towards you. Damn. Nat was right. More than right. You were a fucking idiot.
Before you could stop the words that came out of your mouth you finally admitted to him how you’d been feeling, “I like you.”
He smile before capturing your face in his free hand, “A little jealousy always helps.” Brushing your lip with his thumb he studied your face intently, “I like you too. I like you more than you can even imagine.”
A breath of relief washed out of you as the words you’d been dying to hear left his lips, “That’s good to hear.”
He started laughing. A good old hearty laugh that filled you with your own sense of joy and giggles, “Let me take you out on a real proper date darlin’?” He asked once the shared laughter between the two of you had died down.
You nodded quickly, breathlessly as you took in his lovestruck gaze, “I’d like that.”
His other hand joined him as he cupped your face in his embrace. You were truly vulnerable as hell to him, a position you’d tried to avoid from the get-go. But you couldn’t help it. You were falling for him, fast.
“You have no idea how bad I want to kiss you right now pretty girl.”
You leaned towards him without a second thought, “Then do it.”
He thought for a second before shaking his head, “Can’t kiss you without taking you out first darlin’.”
You bit your lip knowing it’d drive him past his breaking point, “Please? You don’t have to be a gentleman tonight.”
He groaned, tightening his embrace on your face as carefully as he could, “How can I say no when you ask like that?”

-
Walking towards the training room, you heard the familiar voices of the other pilots. You had been reunited with the dagger squad, and some other pilots you knew from the past. Another mission, another training program, trained once again by Maverick.
Through the grueling training and test flights, you were enjoying your time being with the others again. Though you had to admit you were excited about one, more than the others, but you were sure they didn't know that.
As you entered the room, your eyes cast over the group. Hangman and Rooster were bickering as usual, while Bob and Phoenix rolled their eyes. Fanboy, Payback and Coyote watched silently, sharing the occasional look.
Seeing you enter Jake turned in his seat "Y/n, perfect, perhaps you could solve our little problem."
"Nope, no." You shook your head as you took your seat, "Do not drag me into whatever is going on, I don't want to be a part of it."
Phoenix and Bob snickered as Jake leaned over"Come on, I think you'd be on my side."
"Like hell they would." Rooster broke in.
You shook your head with a soft smile as you saw Maverick enter. "Pilots, good morning." He said with a cheery voice.
His eyes ran over you and the others as he walked past. In his hands was a Santa hat.
As he stopped at the podium he looked at all of you in silence for a short moment. "Before we start our training today, I thought we might have a little Christmas fun."
You quirked your brow and sat up a bit, you saw the others do the same.
"Sir?" Bob asked with a curious tone.
"Secret Santa!" He said with a smile.
A small murmur went over the group as Maverick shook the hat in his hands. "In this hat are all of our names. You will each pick a name, and over the next three days, starting tomorrow, you have to give your person three gifts."
"Three?" Jake spoke up.
"Yes, three. On day three, by the end of the day, you must give me a slip of paper with the name of the person you gifted, and the name of the person you think is your gift giver. If you guess correctly, you get a day off of training. If you are wrong. You will be cleaning up after the Christmas party."
A small groan came from the group as you all pictured what mess would be left behind after that.
"There are two rules. One, don't get caught leaving your person a gift, or you are disqualified. Two, do not tell anyone who your person is."
As Maverick walked around holding the hat out for everyone to take a name, your eyes scanned over everyone. You wonder who would be the easiest person to buy a gift for. Your eyes lingered on one person as you thought of a thousand things you could get them.
"If you get yourself, grab a different name." He said softly as he continued down the line.
Getting to you, he gave you a small smile as you reached in. Pulling out a slip of paper you opened it to read 'Natasha 'Phoenix' Trace.' You smiled softly before closing the paper and shoving it in your pocket.
After everyone had chosen their names, the class went on like usual, though you knew everyone was a bit distracted, thinking of what to get their chosen person. Though it wasn't a competition, a familiar buzz ran through the room.
You tried not to look at Phoenix, not wanting to give away she was who you got. But you did glance around, wondering if you might find someone looking at you.
You would be lying if you didn't have someone particular in mind as to who you hoped might be your secret Santa. The same person you thought would be the easiest to buy for. Though, the luck of them getting you was pretty small.
By the end of training you had enough time left to go out and try to find a gift for Phoenix. You had thought long and hard about the types of gifts she might like, but you still struggled. Knowing she had a thing for antique and vintage objects, you thought going to an antique store might do the trick.
Walking through the store, you looked at various objects, before finally landing on an old hourglass carved out of wood. It was certainly unique, and looked old. Buying it, you hoped she would like it. Knowing you wouldn't really know for a few days.
Making it back to the base after another hour of shopping you felt relieved, having bought three gifts for Phoenix, and some wrapping paper.
As you walked down the corridor, you saw Bob walking towards you. He smiled and his eyes caught on the wrapping paper in your hands.
"Don't tell me you got all your gifts already?" He asked with mild surprise.
You smiled "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't" You said jokingly as you continued past him, seeing him smile at you as he nodded in understanding.
As you rounded the corner, you looked back, seeing him disappear around the corner. 'I bet he's a great gift giver' You thought to yourself as you made your way back to your room.
Unpacking your shopping bags, you looked at the gifts you got Natasha. The hourglass, a gift card for one of her favorite shops she could never convince herself to buy something from, and a Phoenix pendant necklace you managed to find by chance in a cute shop near the beach. You had almost jumped in excitement when you saw it.
After wrapping the gifts, you finally went to sleep, your last thoughts being about who may have picked your name from the hat.
--- --- ---
During your break in between training the next day, you snuck Natasha's first present out of your room and quickly made your way to her room. Setting the present down in front of her door, you rushed back to your room. Breathing a breath of relief as no one spotted you.
As you rounded the corner to your room, you stopped as you spotted a bouquet of flowers placed at your door.
"Wha-" You looked back down the hall in bewilderment.
You had only been gone for a few minutes, and you hadn't seen or heard anyone else.
"Sneaky" You whispered to yourself as you walked up to your door.
Picking up the flowers, you smiled at them. It was a beautiful bouquet of Gardenias in an ornamental Christmas colored vase. You smelled them as you made your way into your room.
You knew it was a well known fact that you loved flowers, and often knew the meaning behind them, enjoying the symbolism of each individual flower. You were teased by some of the others about this in the past, which didn't really narrow down who might be your secret Santa.
"Gardenias" You muttered to yourself as you tried to remember the meaning behind them.
Seeing a small note in the flowers, you pulled it out to see a short typed note.
'There's importance in the symbolism.'
You smiled as you remembered saying this once when the others were teasing you about why you were so determined to get the right flowers for someone as a gift.
Thinking back to that moment, you tried to remember who was in the room. Maverick, Hangman, Rooster, Bob, Fanboy and Coyote. Well, that doesn't narrow it down much.
"Appreciation? No, that's not it. Joy!" You knew that was at least one of them.
Setting the flowers on your table, you pulled out your phone to look it up. As you scrolled through the meaning of gardenias, your eyes caught on one particular meaning.
"Secret Love?" You asked softly, your heart beating heavily in your chest.
No, it could be the 'you're lovely' meaning. Just a friendly message. Not an admission. Unless it was?
As someone popped into your head, you felt a mild sense of hope, before you pushed it away. It might be a mistake. They may not have seen the meaning of gardenias as secret love.
You decided not to focus on this too much. Not until you knew more, maybe the next gift would tell you?
Hearing your alarm, you made your way out of your room for your next test flight. You took one last look at the flowers as you went.
As much as you tried, the idea of the flowers left for you being a confession stuck in your mind. You couldn't help but look at the others, wondering if it could be any of them.
You had hopeful thoughts for one, but that was all it was. Hope. There wasn't anything that made it seem obvious that they had feelings for you. Nor had there been from any of the others.
You were close to all of them, good friends. But secret love? You really weren't sure.
--- --- ---
The next day the pilots were abuzz with talk of their presents. Each trying to trick their Secret Santa into giving themselves away. Everyone eyed each other with suspicious gazes.
Natasha briefly mentioned the hourglass, and you could tell she had liked it. That was all the gratification you needed.
You kept your present to yourself, knowing that everyone would tease you about the flowers. Asking what their meaning was. You didn't want to out the meaning in case it was a mistake. So you played coy, only making everyone else more curious.
"Maybe their secret Santa forgot to give them their present?" Fanboy asked as he eyed you, his chin resting on the back of the chair in front of him.
You smiled softly at him and made a motion of a zipper across your lips as you looked to the front of the class as Maverick entered.
"Alright everyone, I know you are all talking about your secret Santa's Anyone get caught leaving a present?"
The was silence among the crowd and Maverick smiled "Good, stealth is important, I'd be disappointed if anyone got caught."
You were nervous to head back to your room after training. Expecting another present to be left for you. There was an odd sense of suspense, that you weren't sure was based around excitement or dread.
As you rounded the corner, and your eyes locked onto your door, you felt an odd pang in your chest as you saw nothing sitting at your door. Maybe they hadn't had time to leave it? Maybe they changed their mind on the prssent?
Getting to your door, you opened it, accepting that you were a bit disappointed. As you stepped into your room, you flinched as a small box fell from your door and bounced off your head, landing on the ground.
"What the hell?" You asked perplexed as you looked up at your door, seeing a small piece of tape, had been holding the box there. "How the hell-" You mumbled off as you reached down and grabbed the box.
You looked over at the window, wondering if they used it to get in. Or maybe they got the key?
Opening the small box, your heart was racing. Would this present give away another secret? Would it confirm or deny the meaning of the flowers? And why tape it to the door?
Seeing a small chain, you grabbed it and pulled it out, revealing a small glass apple on the end. It was cute, but you wondered why they chose it of all things.
Seeing a piece of paper in the box, you pulled it out. Taking a deep breath as you opened it.
Another typed out message.
'Did you know in Ancient Greece, to throw an apple at someone was a declaration of love?'
Your breath caught in your throat as you read over the message again and again. To throw an apple? So the rigged the box to fall on you as though they were throwing it at you?
You wanted to laugh, but your heart was hammering too heavily. You sat on your bed and looked over at the gardenias. So it did mean secret love. That wasn't a misunderstanding.
As you sat there, thinking it over, more realizations came to mind.
The person who got you happened to be in love with you, and was now using the secret Santa exchange as a way to tell you.
You let out a long drawn out breath. You were touched, and excited, yet nervous. There was only one person out of all the pilots these gifts would really mean something from. If it was any of the others, could you ever feel the same?
Who would know about Ancient Greece? You wondered. It definitely seemed like some odd fact Bob, Rooster or Fanboy might pick up at some point. Hangman could be a secret romantic. Maverick was playing the game too and he knew a lot about random things.
You felt an overwhelming sense of anxiety wash over you. Lying down you stared up at your cieling as you held the small apple necklace to your chest. It wasn't obvious who it could be. Would it be an insult to this person to keep hoping it was one specific person?
It would only hurt you more if you kept hoping it was them, and you were wrong.
Maybe the third gift would give it away. Sitting up, it suddenly donned on you that you needed to leave Natasha her second gift.
"Shit." You muttered as you looked over at envelope with the gift card. I could slip it into her locker, you thought. Or slip it under her door.
This secret Santa exchange took such a different turn than you were expecting, and you really didn't know how to act.
Looking at the clock, you saw it was nearly time to head out. You were all heading out to get dinner. You'd take the envelope with you, hoping to find a moment to slip it into her bag or car sometime during the night.
And maybe you could gather some hints about who might be your secret...admirer?
--- --- ---
As you walked across the tarmac the next day, your eyes landed on the person walking up to you.
"Nice time." Rooster said as he slowed in his step.
"Thanks, think you can beat it?" You asked with a teasing tone.
"I know I can." He winked before continuing past you and towards his jet.
You smiled and shook your head softly as you headed towards the locker room. After a long day of training, you were finally done.
You even managed to slip the last gift for Phoenix into her bag this morning. Having slipped the envelope under her door the previous night once you got back from the dinner.
During said dinner, hen the topic of secret Santa came up, you tried to pay attention To hints of who might be your secret Santa. But you learned nothing, everyone was keeping it close to their chests.
Today was the last day of the Secret Santa exchange. By eight this evening you had to give Maverick a slip of paper with your guess on it. You had yet to receive your third gift, and had yet to figure out who it was.
Opening your locker, you watched as an envelope fell to the floor. You looked around, seeing and hearing no one else in the room. Picking it up, you opened it, with your heart beating faster than before.
The third gift, what would it be? A full length confession? A gift card?
As you pulled two slips of paper out, your mouth opened slightly in surprise.
One slip was a ticket to a Christmas festival behind held about an hour away tomorrow night. You had wanted to go, but the tickets sold out too fast.
The second piece of paper was a short note, once again typed out.
'I have the other ticket, find me there.'
You stared at the paper in contemplation. So they had every intention of you finding out who they were after all. 'Find me there.'
It had to be someone who knew you wanted to go to the festival. Who did you mention it to?
Thinking back on it you sighed. Five of them knew about the ticket. That hardly narrowed it down. Though you were still aware that that specific someone always on your mind was one of them.
Tucking the ticket and note back into the envelope you put it in your duffle. You needed to decide what to do.
Not only who to guess, but whether or not you were ready to find out who they were. To find out who apparently had hidden feelings for you.
Your mind was heavy with uncertainty as you headed to Maverick's office at the end of the day. As you knocked on the door and handed him the paper, your heart was never steady.
You didn't know who you would find at the festival tomorrow, but you knew who you wanted it to be. Whether or not it was them, you would go, you had to. And if it was someone that you didn't have feelings for, well, you would deal with it then. No matter what.
Even with the nerve wracking thought it was unrequited love you might be finding at the festival, the hope that it was not unrequited, that it was a shared feeling, hidden between the two of you, made it worth the risk.
You just hoped you still thought that tomorrow.

Maverick x reader Oneshot
Phoenix tells you about her crush on Rooster leading you to confess your soft spot for a certain captain
Part 2
———————————————————————
Y/N and Phoenix were lying on their towels watching the others play dogfight football. Y/N took a sip from her drink before Phoenix let out a laugh. "Can I tell you something" she said, staring at the boys. Y/N followed her gaze to try and figure out exactly which one she was staring at but she got distracted by a certain brunette in the centre of their makeshift field.
Y/N was baffled that he had still managed to keep his aviators on, despite him being tackled to the sand at least twice. But he was fast, and often managed to escape Hangman's attack. "Y/N?" Phoenix called waving a hand in front of her face. "Yeah sorry, tell me what?" She asked, tearing her eyes away from Maverick. Phoenix hesitated, "Please don't make fun of me, and don't you dare tell anyone" she said, Y/N was intrigued now. "It's me, of course I won't tell anyone" she assured Phoenix. The pilot took a deep breath before speaking.
"I umm... I like someo-" Y/N interrupted her with a little squeal. "Tell me, tell me, tell me" she said grabbing Natasha's hands and shaking them around. "I was trying to" Phoenix said with a laugh. "It's..." she trailed off and her eyes went back to the boys game. Y/N let out a loud gasp "Is it one of them?" She asked, eyes wide and Phoenix nodded slowly. Y/N straightened up, surveying the pilots to see which one Phoenix might like. "Hangman, Payback, Fanboy, Bob!" She said very fast and Phoenix slapped a hand over her mouth before she could continue.
"Be quiet" she said, struggling to hold in her own giggle. The two girls laughed again. "Give me a clue" Y/N said and Phoenix smirked. "Well a little birdie-" "It's Rooster!!" Y/N exclaimed jumping up from her towel. "Shut up!" Phoenix whisper-yelled pulling her back down. "And maybe" she said, avoiding Y/N's eyes but her smile told her all she needed to know. "I mean I bet you're hoping that birdie ain't too little" Phoenix hit her stomach and they erupted into a fit of giggles again.
“You have to ask him out" Y/N said grasping Natasha's hands tighter. "I don't know" she said unsurely but Y/N wouldn't accept it. "At least consider it" she said looking at the brunette girl. Phoenix was quiet for a second before she agreed. Y/N squealed again, practically bouncing.
"What about you?" Phoenix asked as she stood up, walking onto the sand. Y/N followed her, looking out at the ocean. "I've never seen you go this long without a crush" Phoenix added and Y/N tried to hide her smile. "Well I mean I found someone but..." Phoenix waited anxiously for her to continue. "But what?" She asked exasperated. "He's a bit older than me, I don't think he'd even consider liking me cause of the age difference" she said sadly, kicking the sand with her foot.
“Oh c'mon, lots of guys like a younger girl, plus you're adorable, I'm sure you could weasel your way into any man's heart" she said and Y/N pushed her away with a chuckle. "I don't think so" she said quietly as she walked forward. Phoenix was determined to not let her think that way. "Tell me about him, and I'll tell you if I think you've got a chance" she said. Y/N turned back to her, raising her eyebrow. "Promise you won't make fun of me or tell anyone" she said, mimicking Phoenix's words from earlier. "Promise" she said, stepping forward to join the other girl.
"He's a little reckless, he acts younger than he is" Phoenix nodded as she spoke. "He's nice and funny and a little cheeky" she said with a small laugh. "Tell me what he wears, you can learn a lot about a guy from the way he dresses" she said brushing her hair back. "Well" Y/N knew if Phoenix hadn't figured it out from her last description, she'd definitely know from this. "Whenever I've seen him, besides his work clothes he wears jeans, these tight white t shirts" Natasha's eyebrow quirked and Y/N shoved her to the side muttering "shut up"
"Continue" she said, with a wide grin. "He always wears this brown bomber jacket covered in patches and I've never seen him without his aviators" Phoenix gasped and pointed toward the rowdy group. "Maverick?" She asked and when Y/N nodded she covered her mouth with her hand. "Oh my god" she said, voice muffled by her hand.
“I know" Y/N said sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck. "It's not my fault" she whined. "What, it's his?" Phoenix said, her tone dripping in sarcasm. "Yeah" Y/N mumbled weakly. "I mean look at him" she said gesturing to the boys. Y/N took a second to admire Maverick's shirtless form, his tanned chest as he stepped through the sand.
She watched him push his sunglasses further up his nose before she realised Phoenix was smirking at her. She felt her face go hot and it was most definitely red. Phoenix burst out laughing throwing an arm around the other girls shoulders. "Well I gotta I was not expecting that" she said with a chuckle. "But at least you've got a shot with Mav" Phoenix walked off in the direction of the boys game.
Y/N ran to catch up with her "What do you mean?" Phoenix stopped abruptly nearly making Y/N fall over. "I could totally see Mav going for a younger girl, he likes the confidence, he doesn't seem like he wants to settle down too soon and clearly he can keep up with the younger generation" she said nodding at their captain who was still full of energy despite having played for about an hour already. "Maverick's like one of those puppies, cocky and needs to run around for a while but he always comes back at the end of the day" Y/N raised an eyebrow.
“I know he seems super put together but I'm sure he's just a little teddy bear" Natasha assured her, rubbing her shoulder as the other girl stared at Maverick unsurely. "If you're wrong about this, I'll kill you" Y/N muttered. Phoenix laughed again. "You know you love me" the brunette girl said nudging Y/N in the ribs. "Course I do" she said nudging Natasha back.
“Hey what's going on here" Roosters voice floated from behind them. "Nothing!" Both girls said, very quickly. They giggled at Bradley's confused face. "Just girl stuff" Y/N said as the two ran to join the football game.
