concept: dallon weekes ep with a rerecorded version of all the boys, collar full with the alternate lyrics, fancy studio version of the brobecks far too young to die, and darker lyrics vegas lights
me acting surprised when doing it for the plot actually puts me into a spiraling depression and days of overthinking and not working out in the end instead
ok. ok just. I love Dallon’s songwriting so much. There’s something about the way he uses patterns of repeated syllables and matches it up to the up and down beats of the music that makes my brain happy.
a couple of examples:
fix-a-tion or psy-cho-sis, de-vo-ted to neur-o-sis now (3-1-3 syllables)
I hear voi-ces, I see vi-sions, and these spi-rits are your pri-son (2 fast - 2 slow)
I’m a vol-un tar-y vic-tim (the rhythm of the lyric echoes the guitar riff heard throughout the song)
of course, there are many other artists who use the same technique, but Dallon does it pretty noticeably with his lyric writing, and I think it’s great.
