Immune Support
Your immune cells work with an entourage of stromal cells. In your tonsils, these stromal cells are called fibroblastic reticular cells (FRCs). They support the communication, movement and survival of immune cells. Researchers now investigate how FRCs change with age and inflammation using tonsil tissue samples from children and adults with or without the inflammatory condition tonsillitis. Stromal and immune cells were isolated from tonsil tissue to analyse their RNA and tissue samples were also labelled for fluorescence microscopy (pictured). This revealed increasing FRC numbers with age and changes in their gene activity with age and inflammation. The team also found a subset of FRCs that were far more abundant in adults than children and showed the strongest reaction to inflammation. These FRCs interacted with and controlled the activity of the immune cells, T-cells. This highlights how FRCs change with age and their role in regulating immunity in the tonsils.

Take Stress Seriously, Or Else
So, I have been keeping you updated on things these past two weeks. That being said, I really wanna talk about what has happened to me in depth. Maybe because I want to process this, or because some of it might be funny, I don’t know.
So, I don’t handle stress well. I’m like a fish in a fish tank, any amount of stress is going to affect my health negatively. But I also have this problem of powering through it, ignoring the signs of stress and wear.
Ever since we moved, stress was building. I’m still in college, dealing with mental health problems, and trying to adapt to a new home. Yeah, I was gonna be stressed.
But I think everything came to a head a few weeks ago. It started with car trouble.
A couple family members ended up getting in car accidents, they were okay, but the cars had to be repaired.
Baily had to go in for spay surgery, and she is my baby, so of course I was worried.
My purse, which had my wallet and all of my cards were lost and all had to be replaced. Which, was not a simple thing to do apparently as it took a full month or so to get everything back.
Then one of my family members fell down the stairs, broke their sternum bone, and we had to go to the ER. We had gotten there at 9 PM; I managed to get home at 4 AM, and the family member had to stay overnight.
Did I mention I still had classes to attend and assignments to finish? Even with extensions, that stuff still had to be done.
Not long after that, I woke up to a fever, sore throat, cough, aches, chills, and congestion. A viral infection, probably the flu. I didn’t think much of it. I rested and took meds; I did remedies, all sorts of things. Thinking it would go away eventually.
2 weeks later, the right side of my tonsils were still inflamed. It was so painful to swallow, I couldn’t even swallow water without pain. And my nose was still really congested, and my right ear began to hurt like hell.
And me being the idiot I was, I refused to go to a doctor, thinking of the money we’ve spent with the cars and the ER was too much already.
Eventually the pain in my throat got so bad, I began to fear eating or drinking. So, I got a virtual visit with a doctor, who then proceeded to tell me to go to urgent care ASAP.
So, I did. I went to three urgent cares. The first one didn’t take my insurance, the next one was appointment only, and the final one took me. After a few hours of waiting and examinations, I was diagnosed with severe Sinitus and tonsillitis.
Apparently, the infection had been brewing in my body for months now. And I think stress was the thing that set it all off, I don’t know.
So, I’m on antibiotics now and feeling better.
Guys, seriously, if you take anything from this story, it’s this. Don’t do what I did. Don’t wait, if your symptoms last over a week, go to the doctor. And please, take stress seriously.

Nurse didn’t have a thermometer to be able to take my temperature so “just going to assume you don’t have a fever”-ed it. We’ve all heard of armchair psychology, now get ready for vibing it out diagnostics.

My throat aches. It's your fault.
Why is this my fault? I did not have contact with anyone outside the flat during the last days, the only person I could have infected with my tonsilitis is John. And you are not John. Whoever you are, I did not cause it. Find someone else to blame, preferably yourself, for whatever you did that caused it.

Cheng Xiaoshi is sick, but luckily his friends have his back.
Cheng Xiaoshi never thought that, of all the dangers and unexpected things he'd encountered over the course of his “job”, the one that would knock him on his ass for a whole week would be a simple case of tonsillitis.

Day 1:
Swollen to point of touch is painful, painful to swallow anything however cold beverages make the pain a little less bearable, the hand my IV was in hurts so much it became a swollen bruise when they took it out.
Constant moisture is what will help me heal faster meaning constantly taking sips of beverages especially cold ones will do me good in the long run. Making sure I take my pain medication every 4 hours for the first 2 weeks and as needed after for my 3rd week, and getting tons of rest meaning legit bed rest my first week maybe 2 weeks depending how fast I heal.
Cold packs on my face and chewing ice chips helps a lot, I’ve been so hungry since my last meal the day before at 7pm but I felt like I was too needy so I stuck with my ice chips. My honey heard my tummy grumble and asked if I was hungry and the most pitiful sounding “I’m so hungry” came out of my mouth as if I was going to cry from the pain of talking and he instantly got up and made me vegetable soup and added ice into it to make it warm since I can’t have hot foods. He has been following the after steps to a T.
I hope I feel a little better tomorrow where I can walk and grab myself my own foods or cook but standing too long especially on my pain meds makes it hard to do anything except rest. I feel so helpless but I’m so glad my bf and his family are going to be taking care of me. ❤️

Hey just a word of warning to any other idiots out there dealing with Tonsilitis for the first time in your adult years:
Don't brush your teeth, get a new toothbrush. It's like the velveteen rabbit that shit has to go or you'll reinfect yourself.

How To Remove Tonsil Stones
Tonsil stones, also known as tonsilloliths, are soft aggregates of bacterial and cellular debris that get lodged in the tonsil and become hard.
Tonsil stones are not harmful, but are one of the causes of bad breath and always give off a putrid smell.
Tonsil stones are common for people with deep tonsil craters. They aren’t always easy to see and they may be a nuisance and difficult to remove.
Here are some easy ways to remove tonsil stones at home.
1. Cough Coughing is a natural process to clear your throat of mucus or foreign irritants. Coughing with a little force can help loosen and release tonsil stones. If you cough up the stones, spit it out and gargle to wash away any residual bacteria from your mouth.
2. Pick It Off If the tonsil stones are visible, you can try to pick them off. Use a flashlight to locate the tonsil stones and use a dental pick to dislodge the stones.
3. Your Index Finger Place your index finger into your mouth right beside your tonsil and gently try to nudge them until they loosen.
4. Cotton Swab Wet the cotton swab to make it softer and gentle for your throat. Find your tonsil stones and simply try to poke or push at the stones until you dislodge them. Carry them out of your mouth on the cotton swab.
5. Toothbrush Your toothbrush may turn out to be the tool to remove the tonsil stones due to its long shape. Detect the stones and use the back of your toothbrush to gently press at the stones until you dislodge them.
6. Apple Cider Vinegar Apple cider vinegar can help to break down tonsil stones. Simply add one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of warm water. Gargle one to three times daily. Gargling can help to dislodge tonsil stones from tonsillar crypts, the crevices of the tonsils.
7. Salt Water Salt water can help loosen tonsil stones. It also has great antibacterial and cleansing properties. Add one teaspoon of salt along to six ounces of water, stirring until incorporated. Gargle with salt water to try to dislodge the stones.
8. Oil Pulling Swishing a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for 10 to 20 minutes and spitting it out. Oil pulling can help to loosen the tonsil stones and also to get rid of harmful germs from your mouth.
9. Water Flosser Fill your water flosser with warm water and aim a jet of water at the back of your throat. The force of water should be able to dislodge the tonsil stones.
Final Thoughts Tonsil stones are extremely common, but people are often unaware that they have them. Maintaining proper hygiene and good health habits can be useful to prevent the appearance of the tonsil stones.
