MORE! MORE! JUMP! Main Story Summary
TL;DR: One fateful day, Hanasato Minori, a girl who dreams of becoming an idol, meets the troubled former idols Kiritani Haruka, Momoi Airi, and Hinomori Shizuku on the rooftop. Upon her insistence, they eventually agree to help coach Minori so she can finally pass an audition.
After a show by Miku and Rin, Airi begins to doubt her decision to quit idol work. She talks to Shizuku about how she truly does want to be an idol who brings hope, but her former agencies forced her to be a TV personality instead. In the process, she ends up yelling at Shizuku out of frustration, believing she has it easy because of her looks and natural idol aura, scaring her her off. Airi goes to Minori to tell her the truth of the idol industry, but Minori isn't detered. This determination re-ignites Airi's dream and declares herself to be Minori's new training partner.
However, Airi's words, combined with the bullying she faces from her current idol group, cause Shizuku to quit idol work all together. Airi rushes to Cheerful*Days rehearsal center, followed by the other three. There, she apologizes for the words she had said and recognizes Shizuku's hard work and kindness. Touched by Airi's words, Shizuku gives her former group one last goodbye.
Afterwards, Shizuku decides to become an idol once again. She asks if Haruka wants to join them too, but she refuses, believing herself unfit to be an idol. The next day, Airi, Shizuku, and Minori run into Mai, a former ASRUN member who injured her voice overworking herself and blamed Haruka for it. They help her apologize to Haruka, who in turn apologizes for pushing Mai too hard. However, after Mai leaves, it is revealed that because of the incident, Haruka developed crippling stage fright and lost the ability to perform.
After watching another show by Miku and Rin, Minori decides to put on a show for Haruka so she can see the blue pen lights one last time. With Airi and Shizuku's help, the performance reminds Haruka of her true feelings about being an idol. The four of them band together into a new idol group: MORE! MORE! JUMP!

Chapter 0: Minori recalls a childhood memory of her skipping school with a false stomach bug, guilt-ridden over her poor luck messing things up. She questioned giving up everything, when suddenly, Haruka's ASRUN stream came on TV. Minori instantly became enamored with her, and through Haruka's message of hope, decided to keep trying with her all. In the present day, Minori struggles with learning a dance routine but persists over the thought of Haruka. Suddenly, her phone flashes, sending her to a strange place. Miku and Rin approach and explain the purpose of SEKAI, excited that Minori harbors such strong feelings but worry about the fading dreams of "the other three". A confused Minori is forced out of the SEKAI, convinced it was all a fun dream. Meanwhile, Haruka has decided to quit being an idol.
Chapter 1: Minori receives her fiftieth rejection from an idol agency. Still, she has hope that one day she'll reach her dream. A fellow classmate comes over and reveals Haruka's retirement, much to Minori's horror. While she's moping, Haruka passes by her classroom. Minori is still saddened over the retirement, but resolves to support her decision and thank her by becoming an idol herself. After school, Haruka heads to the rooftop to avoid the chatter about her, only to run into Minori practicing dance routine.
Chapter 2: Haruka apologizes for the interruption and introduces herself. Minori panics and reveals her dream of being an idol like Haruka. Their conversation is breifly interrupted by the sound of Airi confronting Shizuku about the rumor of her transferring out of Cheerful*Days. Haruka decides to step in and call Airi out for her hostility.
Chapter 3: Haruka mentions Minori's dream of becoming an idol to the others. Airi doubts her potential, stating that things don't just happen because you want them to. Shizuku asks Airi to stop, but Airi's comments hadn't deterred Minori; she still has faith tomorrow will be better, quoting Haruka's speech. Suddenly, Miku pops out of Minori's phone, asks the girls to visit, and leaves. Minori decides to ask the three former idols if they could help her practice.
Chapter 4: Shizuku agrees to help Minori, followed by a reluctant Airi. Haruka doesn't answer. Minori and Haruka walk home together, where Minori explains the reason she wants to be an idol in the first place is because of Haruka. Haruka is mildly bothered, but doesn't say anything. The next day, Shizuku and Airi join Minori on the rooftop. Haruka reads a book nearby. Airi ends up coaching Minori on interviews instead. Later that evening, Shizuku and Airi walk home together. Airi tries bringing up their prior conversation, but chickens out.
Chapter 5: Shizuku finishes a modeling gig before heading to a Cheerful*Days practice. After that rehearsal, she ends up overhearing the other members gossip about her being the "favorite" once again. The next day, Minori finally passes Airi's introduction training. She feels nervous about not being as naturally pretty as the other girls, but Shizuku reassures her that having heart is what truly matters. Airi recognizes those words, but doesn't react. Minori mentions potentially injuring her ankle at the end of practice, to which Haruka quickly tends to. Suddenly, Miku appears once more and asks if they'd all like to come watch a show to cheer up, having sensed strong anxious feelings.
Chapter 6: Minori, Haruka, Airi, and Shizuku meet Miku and Rin within SEKAI for the first time. The Virtual Singers briefly explain the premise of SEKAI before starting their show. Minori greatly enjoys it, while Airi realizes this is the show she had always wanted to do but never could. Suddenly, the audience's pen lights turn blue. Haruka reminisces on the beauty of it at her former shows, but is saddened by the fact she'll never see it again. After the show, Minori asks why the glowsticks were blue and not either of the performers colors, while Haruka asks to leave.
Chapter 7: Minori is troubled by the sad faces of the former idols, even though they seemed to have been having so much fun before. Miku reassures her that the SEKAI will always be there for her and sends her off. Later, Haruka remembers a girl expressing her frustration over a wasted dream and declares herself to have never been fit to be an idol. The next day, Shizuku and Airi discuss the show, prompting Shizuku to ask if Airi still wants to be an idol. Airi implies she does, but feels that it's impossible. Through a flashback, it is revealed that as an idol, Airi ended up being asked to do TV personality appearances at the cost of idol concerts.
Chapter 8: The flashback of Airi's past continues. Her manager felt she wasn't fit to be an idol, and that she'd only survive the industry as a TV guest. Despite her protests, they wouldn't relent, so she transferred to a new agency. They decided to pull the same stunt too. In the current day, Shizuku tries to console Airi, but is quickly shut down. Airi yells at her for having it so easy, since she's so naturally perfect and pretty she doesn't even have to try. Airi realizes what's she's said and immediately apologizes, but Shizuku runs away crying.
Later, Shizuku remembers meeting Airi for the first time. Her friends had sent in an application without her consent, and after winning an idol competition, found the pressure to be overwhelming. Airi had cheered her up with a speech on hope. Shizuku feels indebted to Airi for having got her this far. However, the comments of her current unit, combined with Airi's outburst, lead her to decide to quit being an idol.
On the rooftop, Haruka reveals to Minori that she's going to stop coming to read up there. Minori re-declares her determination to follow in Haruka's footsteps. Haruka is proud of her, but secretly worries she won't survive the idol industry.
Chapter 9: Airi is concerned for Shizuku and begins doubting if she has the right to coach Minori anymore. Suddenly, Rin pops out of the SEKAI to cheer her, reminding her of the hope idols bring. Airi finds Minori on the rooftop and tells her about how hard the idol industry really is. Despite the challenge, Minori still chooses to carry her dream, inadvertently rekindling Airi's own. Airi vows to begin practicing again, this time alongside Minori.
Chapter 10: Airi reveals what she had said to Shizuku the other day to Minori, who decides to help her apologize. Suddenly, Minori gets a notification. Airi races through the halls, running into Haruka. Minori breaks the news to her that Shizuku has officially quit Cheerful*Days. Airi confronts Shizuku in the courtyard, soon followed by the other two. Shizuku is hurt by Airi's comments on how she was born to be an idol. Airi was the one to teach her true idols are the ones with heart, but now it feels like nobody will ever see her in that way. Shizuku talks about her inability to connect with the rest of Cheerful*Days because of their jealousy. Airi apologizes for her words and runs off to the Cheerful*Days theater.
Chapter 11: Minori tries running after Airi with Shizuku, but Haruka stops her. She worries Minori will learn the harsh reality of idol's true, human personalities. Minori's resolve stays strong and goes anyways, so Haruka follows. At the Cheerful*Days theater, the current group members talk harshly of Shizuku and her retirement. Airi rushes in to defend Shizuku and all the hard work she had put in towards being the idol she wanted to be, something Airi had failed to do. She admits to being jealous of Shizuku, but recognizes that she is still a kind and hardworking person. Despite this, Cheerful*Days still speaks ill of Shizuku. Airi tries fist-fighting them but is stopped by Minori. Shizuku accepts Airi's apology and leaves Cheerful*Days behind.
Chapter 12: Airi once again apologizes to Shizuku. Shizuku, in turn, asks if Airi would please become an idol again. Airi says yes, but only if she will, too. Airi may be Shizuku's idol, but Shizuku is Airi's. Airi asks if Haruka would like to join the three of them on the rooftop, but she declines. She says doesn't think she has any right to be an idol, but refuses to elaborate.
Chapter 13: Shizuku, Airi, and Minori are all worried about Haruka. In the school courtyard, they run into Mai, a former member of ASRUN, looking for Haruka. She reveals to them that she's the reason Haruka quit being an idol. Haruka had inspired her to become an idol, and she had greatly enjoyed getting the chance to work with her. However, Mai had ended up falling into a slump. Haruka told her to not give up hope and keep trying. Mai ended up injuring her vocal cords from overworking herself, forcing her to quit idol work. She lashed out and blamed Haruka for what happened.
Chapter 14: Mai wants to apologize to Haruka for what she had said. The next day, the four of them take her to the rooftop, where Mai gets to do so. Haruka apologizes back, stating that she regrets pushing Mai so hard and denies it was why she quit. After Mai leaves, Haruka admits she only said that so Mai wouldn't feel guilty. She believes that she has nothing left to give as an idol.
Chapter 15: It is revealed that Haruka's guilt over the incident caused her to develop stage fright to the point of being unable to stand on the stage anymore, no matter what she tried. Later, Minori curses herself for forcing Haruka to have to live through those painful memories again by helping her. She decides to go to SEKAI to ask for advice.
Chapter 16: Minori tells Miku and Rin about the hope Haruka had given her as a kid, and how she wants to find a way to return that gift. Miku and Rin put on a show to cheer Minori up, asking her to sit in a special chair backstage. Partway through the show, the pen lights turn bright blue. Minori finally realizes it's because of Haruka's memories that they do that. She decides to put on a show for Haruka so she can see those lights one more time.
Chapter 17: Shizuku and Airi discuss how hard it must be for Haruka having quit being an idol. Minori rushes in and reveals her plan to them. Though they aren't sure if it will work, Shizuku and Airi decide to help.
Chapter 18: The next day, the three drag Haruka into the SEKAI for the show. Minori begins with a declaration of how much Haruka means to her, then begins singing Happy Synthesizer as the pen lights glow blue. Haruka is reminded of her first solo show, when the pen lights had turned into an ocean for the first time. Minori grabs Haruka's hand and tells her all the wonderful things that had happened since she had become her fan. Airi and Shizuku hold her steady so she can stand on the stage once again.
Chapter 19: Untitled forms into a song: New Edgy Idols. Airi, Shizuku, and Haruka tell Minori how grateful they are for reminding them of their true feelings by harboring her own so tightly. After performing the new song, the four thank the Virtual Singers for their help, too. The next day, Haruka tells Mai she's returning to idol work.
Chapter 20: Despite all of their hard work, Minori receives yet another agency rejection. Airi and Shizuku cheer her back up and resolve to keep working with her. Haruka finds the three on the rooftop and proposes starting their own idol group, since they all harbor the same dream. Minori expresses her excitement over being their very first fan, to which the other three laugh. Even though Minori's never been an idol before, she was the one who rekindled their dreams. There's no way they're doing this without her, too. The four decide on the name MORE! MORE! JUMP!, after Minori's habit of saying "more, more!" and them jumping up towards their idol dreams.

Virtual Singer Chapter 1 (Pre-Chapter 0): Miku and Rin perform a show. Though Rin forgot their blocking, Miku adapted quickly. Rin apologizes for messing up and leaves. Later, Miku finds her sleeping on the stage floor with notes scattered around. She tucks her in goodnight.
Virtual Singer Chapter 2 (After Chapter 7): Rin is upset everyone was sad after their show, but Miku recognizes it was the push they needed to find their true feelings. They're not worried about Minori, but fear for the other three. The pair decide to come up with a new, better performance for next time.
Virtual Singer Chapter 3 (After Chapter 16): Miku and Rin are relieved Minori's feeling better about the Haruka situation. They trust Minori will make Haruka smile again. Miku knows Airi and Shizuku will decide to help out, too. The duo discuss the cool blue effects they could add to make the performance even better.
Virtual Singer Chapter 4 (After Chapter 20): Minori, Airi, Shizuku, and Haruka surprised Miku and Rin by coming to watch their show. They tell the Virtual Singers about how they formed a new idol group, together. Rin asks to do a celebration show, to which they all readily agree. Haruka especially, now that's she's managed to move past her insecurities. Miku is happy everyone's smile is so bright.

hey, thank you for taking the time to put together that post about childhood emotional neglect. I have a hard time wrapping my head around CEN as something to be pathologized because from where I stand it seems so universal--not sure if I knew a single person growing up whose emotional needs were consistently met by their parents, including people whose families i would've cut off my pinky finger to join. is there any chance you'd be willing to give me some examples of what a parent-child dynamic *without* CEN looks like?
Oh god
Okay, I'm going to give this a fair try, long post ahead. Skip to end for the TL;dr and my suggestion
---
This is a true story.
When I was five, I started having anxiety and panic attacks. Severe ones. They mostly presented in my ability to breathe sort of... Hiccupping. I would suddenly become INCREDIBLY aware of my breathing, and it physically felt slower, harder. Trying to talk to my mom never resulted in anything happening or changing, and I had already learned to not talk to my dad.
Combined with clear anxious tendencies, Tourette's, and a budding, severe case of OCD, this culminated in the conclusion that at any moment, ever, I could stop breathing. I took to sitting in front of fans, so that air could be forced in my face, I developed tics of sounds in my throat to make sure I was still breathing. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't function, I was scared to leave the house.
My grandmother was babysitting one night and I had the worst attack yet. Six year old me crumbled into my grandmother's lap, telling her what I was experiencing and how scared I was, and like no one was listening to me. I needed to go to the hospital, I demanded.
Now.
---
From here on out, this is not a true story.
My grandmother held me tightly, appalled that my mother hadn't gotten me any kind of help yet. She whispered soothing reassurances into my hair as she rocked me, calling my mom home from bingo.
At the very least, a quick trip to the ER (free) could ease my fears that I stopped breathing every ten minutes, and for the next half hour, she showed me ways to keep my mind busy while we waited and the next two times an attack hit she held my hand and said just breathe through it. See? You're still breathing.
By the time my mom was home, I was calmer, I told them I was okay and could be brave, and I slept like the dead that night. I knew I could always trust my grandmother.
---
That would have been my ideal situation. If I ever have children, this is how I want to be able to treat them.
With respect, and as if what they say matters and is real. I want them to feel heard and appreciated.
Now, here's the catch.
No one is perfect.
Maintaining those levels of attention, on top of working and other children and whatever else might be going on in your life, can be extremely difficult. Generational neglect and abuse mean that most parents don't even realize what's messed up and what's not.
My ideal situation won't be everyone else's.
Eventually, I will hurt someone, unintentionally. I will be low on spoons, or don't know them well enough to react appropriately to something. Maybe they don't want or need "coddling", and my method will be harmful.
TL;dr
In a way, it's reasonable to expect that emotional neglect is simply a fact of life, and different people will handle the effects differently.
When emotional neglect occurs repeatedly over a long period of time, it begins to have an effect on attachment and child development. The things you're excited about are so consistently brushed off that you start to believe the insidious thoughts in your head as you try to rationalize why they don't seem to care.
Your parents tell you so many times that you're overreacting that you begin to believe it and start keeping things to yourself.
Instead of looking at examples, answer these questions about situations in your past:
1) Would I have done something differently if the roles were reversed?
2) Were my emotional needs met?
3) Did I feel heard? Understood? Believed?
4) Were they interested, and being an active listener?
5) Did I leave the conversation feeling safe, and as if continuing to talk to this person was safe? Did I leave knowing I could approach this person again?
6) Does this one person repeatedly make you feel negatively about yourself or your interests? Is it a trend with them in particular?
Emotional neglect comes in ten thousand flavours-- most unintentional, most one-offs. Many of these situations will be handled by YOU just fine. Some will have more of an effect than others.
But when you're young and it's repeated, you learn bad habits and start to have bad thoughts about yourself.

time after time: reread edition [3]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
series summary: After what starts out as a fairly normal mission, you find yourself stuck in a time loop. Which would already be bad enough in itself if it didn’t also mean having to watch Bucky die over and over again.
pairing: bucky barnes x f!reader
word count: 10.1k 💀
chapter warnings: one last reminder to internalize the premise of the fic, i will just assume you know what’s up from this point on; canon-typical violence; mention of alcohol; some more permanent damage; even more banter. please note that my blog is rated 18+. minors dni. ageless/empty blogs will be blocked without warning.

after an unexptected second week off (i got sick after going on vacation, yay summer!) we return for the third part of the reread event!! as always, if you're new, this is a reread commentary on already published chapters—an extended a/n, if you will. by clicking on the read more you're going to see spoilers up to and including chapter three 💚
every day's a holiday – tl;dr:
in the flashbacks, the reader officially meets sam and bucky for the first time. after hearing rumors about ULTIMATUM, a newly formed group taking after the flag smashers, sam wants reinforcements to find out more. he knows about twelve's time powers from steve, and cashes in an old favor she owes to steve to get her help. bucky, not knowing anything about her yet, is sceptical.
in the loop, twelve is getting nervous about being unable to stop the loop from repeating. experimenting with the timing of the mission doesn't help; neither does entering the downstairs labs through the tunnels as bucky investigates on his own and lands in an explosion. after more than a week on her own, twelve tells sam about her time loop situation. he insists that bucky be told as well. while going to get coffee, bucky writes a note to himself on twelve's arm and asks her to tell only him about the loop during its next iteration. she does, and they attempt to figure it out together—to no avail, as bucky gets shot through twelve and her wounds stay through the next loop. she decides that they're both going to involve sam again and that she will try to contact strange for help.
behind the loop
i'm not gonna lie to y'all, these chapters are getting harder and harder to summarize. there's a lot going on and i have work tomorrow, so let's just crack on.
believe it or not, when i started writing this fic, no way home wasn’t even out yet and i was absolutely convinced that my whole thing with the tower would be canonically impossible. and then we just never found out who bought avengers tower. so that was that.
Like a pesky little voice of conscience. And on your day off, no less.
the chapters i’ve recently been writing have been more serious as the loop continues, and i kind of miss this really fun narrative side remarks that tell so much about twelve as a character. i really love writing her and her concerning habits.
this flashback is the closest i come in the actual fic in tying the whole thing into canon chronologically, i think. the mcu timeline is an absolute mess, but since tfatws takes place in early 2024-ish and the time loop happens in 2025, that gives us about a year or so that the characters have known each other by the time the main plot starts. that is, in normal human time. at least that’s my headcanon.
“Ah-ah-ah.” You wrangled the mug out of his hands before he had the chance to move, barely resisting the urge to kick his shin for good measure.
even though they’re happening in consecutive chapters, a bit of time passed between me writing the nat flashback and this one. i thought it was very funny that my instinct clearly was that everyone would just start trying to break stuff around her to see if her powers were legit. and isn’t that poetic in a way? (there were no deeper thoughts behind this but wouldn’t it be fun if there were?)
despite me sending all of my characters to therapy in this fic (because let’s face it, they all need it desperately), they’re all so bad at expressing their emotions, honestly. then again, what kind of therapist would actually be able to really help you if you’re a super-powered person who loves going into emotional shut-down and guarding themselves with sarcasm? whoever they are, they’re not getting paid enough.
An entire conversation seemed to pass between the two of them without either saying a single word. Sam held up three fingers with a sly smirk; Bucky ended up rolling his eyes.
i loved that little subtle reference to the big three. i was so proud of that one. also continuing to develop sam and bucky’s friendship partnership next to the actual plot is always fun.
He ignored the question, but the way he looked at you and then crossed his arms made you decide to put salt in his coffee.
yay, another little callback to chapter one!! all these months later and sam still won’t let that one go.
“I’d like to see you try.” […] You’re trying. You really are.
this parallel i actually got complimented on in the past and that made me very happy. i’m always trying to make the shift from the flashback to the main plot the least jarring it can possibly be, and this transition just worked so well. also, bucky’s "oddly bright blue" eyes are a little nod to a wrinkle in time, so there’s another little chapter one parallel for you.
this is the first chapter where the first communication blocks are really starting to kick in. the fact that twelve won’t talk to anyone about what’s actually going on with her despite being stuck in a literal nightmare is so integral to her character. not to get to deep but that whole refusing to get help when you should theoretically be able to do something on your own is something we have in common <3 i’m also sending her through the rest of the stages of grief in this chapter, which was very much on purpose. unsurprisingly, anger was the most fun to write.
It’s not like you can google something like “time loop problem” and come up with a list of practical steps to follow. You know this because you did google, and if you have to read the name Phil Connors one more time you are going to scream.
the different approaches to trying to get bucky through the mission alive were also really interesting to come up with. i made a really bad drawing of how i imagine the setup of the whole facility, but i won’t show that to you because it’s embarrassing. anything you can come up with in your heads probably looks better anyway.
this is also the part where twelve officially gets her nickname!! finally!! why only now, you ask? well, on the one hand, bucky really does only use it in specific situations. on the other hand, i literally only came up with it by the time the first two chapters were already posted and i didn’t want to go back. i remember col was posting in the embers at the time and i loved her reader having a nickname so much i wanted to give mine a special little nickname too. i also had to text two friends to confirm it wasn’t stupid as hell. me? insecure? never.
you know when you’re doing a group project and you’re feeling really good about the work you put in and the direction it’s all going and then someone comes in and completely derails the whole thing? that’s bucky in this loop. i love him, but jfc.
"What the hell did you do, rob an ambulance and take a bath?" […] "I don’t know what your problem with them is, and I don’t need to know. But is it worth more than Bucky’s life?"
i love sam. i love him not taking things seriously until he realizes that they’re serious as hell, and then switching to compassionate and level-headed. i know this is a bucky fic but sam deserves all the appreciation and i truly hope i’m able to show that.
i also like the contrast between his reaction and bucky’s to twelve telling them about the loop. we don’t see the first time bucky gets told, but her incoherent rambling at him while he’s just trying to take it in means so much to me. but we’re not there yet. we’re getting coffee first.
holy shit, i just had to double check but i’m pretty positive that this is our first lucy scene. she was never supposed to be in the fic much, but i’m not gonna lie, she grew on me. she’s based on several of my favourite former colleagues of mine, and this is not the only fic of mine she’s infiltrated. we are all but living in the lucy cinematic universe. on a side note, she got her name because i like the name and also because i’m relatively sure there’s no super relevant lucy in a marvel … thing. i often like to include characters from different marvel properties in my fics (like ULTIMATUM themselves), but i just wanted someone without any obvious ties to anything.
“What do you want?” you turn to Bucky. “Coffee.” “What kind?” “Just … coffee.”
any ordinary days fans in the house tonight?
the coffee quest was another side plot i didn’t expect when setting out to write this fic, but it’s served me so well in establishing their dynamic a little bit more. also, the writing thing!! i’m so fond of twelve not being able to decipher bucky’s handwriting at first. and i like that he just comes up with something so practical on day one of the whole thing.
“Crazy?” His expression hardens somewhat, and an irritated flush appears on his cheeks. “Why is it crazy?”
is it just me or do these two seem to be having two entirely different conversations? :)
You don’t think, moving purely out of instinct.
ah, i do enjoy upping the stakes near the end of the chapter. as if twelve’s whole situation hadn’t sucked enough already. but don’t we all love a good 'patching each other up' scene? i’d say it was worth it but then again i know how it ends. also shout-out to sam once again for being a great friend and a good brother. sarah i love you i hope you’re having a great, calm july 4th. sadly, we have a wizard to seek out.
“What do you say, Barnes? Think you can trust me?”
and isn’t that the whole thesis of the story, really?
how it's going
well. not gonna lie but things are not going according to plan!! after my holiday (which was great by the way, thanks for asking) i went back to work for the two days i was scheduled that week, went home and immediately got sick for eight days. i've only been feeling significantly better yesterday, and so writing hasn't exactly been a priority. regrettably.
but fear not, because today i'm pretty sure i had a breakthrough with the thing i've been struggling with in chapter seven. i'm optimistic i'll be able to write the rest of it over the course of the weekend and then finally move on to chapter eight. which is hopefully gonna be a little shorter for a change. oh, i also wrote a bit of an unexpected bonus chapter today so look forward to that at some point.
i'm still not sure if i want to move my schedule backwards or if i'll try to squeeze in another reread chapter next week. i guess we'll all find out together.
until then, take care of yourselves and i'm always here if you're lonely and stuck in a time loop and just need someone to listen 💚

Cat help URGENTLY NEEDED
See info below the cut (THERE ARE SEVERAL EDITS NOW)
TL;DR: 3 kittens one kitten (deets below) needs fixing, ~$25-50 needed.
But, spouse was laid off the last week of December, so: no money. We've had to sell stuff/etc. just to make ends meet. (I take care of my disabled and elderly parents nearly full time, and commissions haven't done well, so...spouse makes all the money.) We have managed to feed them through a mix of luck and bad luck, and today we got paid a $700 sign-on bonus for the new job, which ensured a bill getting paid, gas money to commute to work, and some groceries which included some wet food and a 15 lb bag of crunchy food for the three kittens + my two cats! ...but it isn't enough to spare to get them fixed yet. And we still won't get paid for like another week and a half or two??
Full details: Some weeks ago, three girl kittens showed up out of nowhere (as kittens do) at our house. Three cute little black kittens. We have fed & watered them and set out a little electrically heated cat box, because we had to do at least that much.
And here's where it becomes urgent. 🙃 I had suspicions yesterday, but the fluffiest of the kittens is now VERY MUCH IN HEAT.
"Put her up/bring her in!" we don't have money for the vet and I do noooot have a big enough house to keep them away from my own cats. Idk if they have anything, or have worms, etc. :/ I can't even afford to take Mom's cat to the vet and I'm super worried about him too for a totally different reason (respiratory issues, recently stopped eating, losing weight, etc.). (Mom is also broke.) Like, ngl, not an ideal situation.
I have PayPal & Venmo. I've never used Venmo but the username is KaizokuShojo. I neeeeeed to get this poor girl to the clinic, and her sisters are likely to follow suit very soon. They're so small but they're big enough, I've worked enough with cats in the past to know.
The local spay/neuter place is $25/cat. I don't remember if they charge tax so maybe $80 total needed.
Please comment if you donate so that I can edit the post to show what's needed/show it isn't needed anymore because I ONLY need the money to get them fixed. (Which is good, I did formerly need some money for their food but the sign on bonus came at an excellent time.)
Also feel free to give as a downpayment on a commission, if you like. Comment but also message for details.
EDIT: spouse is currently in the midst of trading something we own to someone for something else, which we will then try to sell! If that sells, money is solved!!! If not, uh. Well. If nothing else, I am going to make an appointment as soon as the spay place opens in the morning, and failing the money coming through, I have an "absolutely for emergencies ONLY" credit card, but I don't want to mess with that if additional income isn't guaranteed coming in (the interest is high and evil and we are already not doing okay at all)......but also this is very much an increasingly pressing emergency. So! I appreciate everyone sharing/etc. that did so! But someone actually showing interest and trading the thing, that helps a ton! Fingers crossed it sells soon after getting it!!!!! Small edir: trade went through, second thing has not sold. Go figure lol.
EDIT 2: 2 of the 3 stray kittens disappeared. Lots of people have been around in the area lately due to real estate stuff going on, so I'm kind of just going to hope intensely that someone went "holy crap cute kittens" and took them home, or someone on fb saw our troubles and came and took them, idk. I can't dwell on it too long, I already have many stressproblems and am thiiiiis close to an anxiety attack lately. But, ONE kitten, we can likely handle that. Money is set to start trickling in soon, we'll get her fixed, get her to a basic vet visit, y'know. She was the runt and doesn't appear to be in heat so we have a buffer. Thank you to the people that shared, I reaaaaaaally appreciate it.

Hi, I would like to preface this rant by saying that I am a huge fan of your work even though at the moment it is breaking me emotionally and spiritually. In a good way if that's possible. But this is more of a generalized question, about the Doctor Who series as a whole during Ten's era. For context, A friend of mine recently brought up an idea, that hasn't really occurred to me until now (Not sure how the fandom as a whole feels about it, if I'm just late to the party or if this is something that hasn't been brought up yet).
He mentioned that the series as a whole would be so much better if Martha and Donna were just switched as companions in their respective seasons. At first I thought he was crazy, but then as I really thought about it I could see where he's coming from.
He personally doesn't care much for shipping (and I am attempting to turn him to this side but no luck so far). So it was kind of annoying to him to see Martha pine after the doctor for an entire season, after arguably having a good platonic relationship with Donna. But he enjoyed the storylines enough that it didn't bother him too much, to have romance kinda "forced" into it as he claims.
As he argued: "You kind of lose some context and you might have to change a bit of back story, but imagine instead of 'sad romance' you get Modern and outspoken Donna in Human Nature and the joke you can play with that, or Martha coming to terms with The Doctors Dark side in The Fires of Pompeii so early in the series."
Now my brain immediately turned to the shipping side of this. And I can see some slight merit. Like what if after the gut punch of losing Rose he kind of just needs a platonic best friend. (Which I am so happy you're doing anyway, but not a lot of people do so I'm by passing that). And after spending years grieving and healing from losing Rose. Having adventures, Gaining friends, coming to terms with his loss of his best friend/ worst enemy. He finally gets a companion who's interested in him again, and he has to come to terms with if he can/will love again. And you can do some interesting love triangle stuff with that (Not my cup of tea but I see the appeal) imagine Martha falling in love with him and then seeing his past girlfriend. Or even his future one with River! (God, I so can't wait to see what you do with that bombshell) The wenches that can be thrown with that.
IDK, I thinks it's a cool little food for thought, about how switching around too awesome (and in Martha's case sadly controversial) companions. Let me know your thoughts, if I'm absolutely wrong about posting this or if it was a fun little thought experiment!
TL;DR: You're awesome and Could Season 3 and 4 of Doctor Who be benefited if Martha and Donna switched seasons?
First off thank you! Glad you are enjoying my work :)
Now, to your friend’s suggestion and your ideas: very fascinating thought experiment! I haven’t considered that either, but now that you’ve mentioned it I want to give it some serious consideration.
Switching Martha and Donna’s order like that is interesting, but ultimately I personally don’t think that it would work. Like you and your friend, I’m not a huge fan of the unrequited love plotline of S3. However, with OR without it, I don’t think the Doctor that Donna meets in “The Runaway Bride” is the same Doctor she meets in “Partners in Crime,” and a large part of that is because of Martha. He goes from being a suicidal mess to having at least a little bit of hope. He’s ready to make the hard decisions again. He’s not totally healed but he’s getting better about how he handles it. And I don’t think that happens without Martha first.
But let’s get into the thought experiment.
Say Donna decided to travel with the Doctor at the end of “The Runaway Bride.” Let’s say “Smith and Jones” doesn’t happen yet because it makes more sense to keep that as Martha’s intro episode. So we toss Donna into the deep end with Shakespeare and getting kidnapped on New Earth (lol) and facing down Daleks. Some of that could work. Harder to see how she gets into the gala for “The Lazarus Experiment,” but maybe Nerys invites her or something.
Donna in 1913 would have a hard time fitting in because unlike Martha, Donna doesn’t suffer silently. She complains, loudly, and I could see her very quickly getting fired. She’d have absolutely no patience for those boys and for Nurse Redfern. This is a story I’d enjoy in fic but I’m glad it isn’t canon tbh… Donna in 1969 could be interesting, she’d definitely complain about having to work to support the Doctor but I could also see her having fun with the fashion and making friends etc.
BUT. Can you imagine her in the Year That Never Was? We got a tiny taste of this vibe in “Turn Left,” I suppose, but I still have a much harder time seeing Donna staying hidden, walking the Earth, and telling the Doctor’s story to people everywhere. I love Donna dearly, but she is loud, and abrasive, and would have a much harder time getting through to people than Martha does, I suspect. But the real reason I can’t see her doing well in this time is because the way S3 Doctor treats his companion (Martha in canon, Donna here).
S3 Doctor is big about comparing his companion negatively to Rose. Imagine him doing that to Donna rather than Martha. The thing about Martha is that, despite the unrequited feelings, she seems to have decent self-esteem. She’s good, and she KNOWS she’s good. Donna, on the other hand, has suffered a lifetime of belittling, largely from Sylvia but also from other people too. She’s abrasive BECAUSE she’s insecure, deciding to push people away rather than let them see her vulnerable, because she’s afraid that it’s all true. She might initially fight back about the Doctor comparing her negatively to Rose, and that might push him. However, she is empathetic, and she knows he’s grieving, so I think she might actually just let it slide, and that’s heartbreaking. S4 Doctor tells Donna she’s brilliant, she’s important, she’s his best friend. But S3 Doctor wouldn’t have patience for her slip-ups, for her imperfections, for her not being Rose. And so maybe that would push her away in the end, and as much as Donna’s canon ending (at least until the 2023 specials, who knows what’s coming?!?) pains me, I think this would hurt worse. A Donna Noble who NEVER knows she’s brilliant, rather than a Donna who learns it then forgets it.
Now for Martha. In many ways I do think she would personally benefit from traveling with a later, somewhat-healed Doctor, but I don’t know that the story overall would. So now, post-YTNW, the Doctor finds Martha in a delayed “Smith and Jones” and then takes her to Pompeii and the Ood Sphere and she gets to see the real complicated choices and dark side out there. Assuming he’s done the same degree of healing in S3 (which I’m frankly not sure he would have), it’s still a lot to throw at this poor medical student who wants an escape from her dysfunctional family for a bit. I know Martha puts up with a lot of shit due to her crush, but doing a genocide and hearing the telepathic song of colonialism and slavery (especially considering she is a Black woman) might be a bit much to endure for a crush. But say she does. Now imagine they get called back to Earth in her time for the ATMOS situation and the Sontarans, but her role and Donna’s are reversed. She’d definitely be focused on her family like Donna was, and while I have no doubt she could handle being trapped on the Sontaran ship too, it’s still jarring to see her whole family at risk this soon in her travels (and would make Francine’s dislike for the Doctor feel more justified).
But the kicker, for me, is “The Doctor’s Daughter.” Imagine Martha and Donna swapping places for that episode: Donna is off trapped with the Hath and Martha is the one who names Jenny and gets to see this man she has a crush on totally destroyed by this unintentional fatherhood thrust upon him. After how her father left her family, I think Martha would be really disgusted by the Doctor’s initial rejection of Jenny and that it would change her view of him at least a little bit, but then as he comes around only to watch Jenny die, it’s a bit like losing a family in speed run.
Then the Library, where if we adhere relatively close to canon we get a glimpse of the Doctor’s future wife and give Martha even more competition, and then also potentially a non-Doctor love interest in the computer simulation. Would she come out of it still in love with him? Would she even still want to travel?
She’d do fine with Agatha Christie (and I’d assume have a lot of fun, provided the show did what it usually does and glossed over the contemporary racism especially among the upper classes… less fun if actual period-typical racism was included). She’d probably want to run tests on the Doctor after “Midnight” to make sure he was okay.
A Martha-centric “Turn Left” would indeed be fascinating. I’d love to see her and Rose interact in that context, especially as Rose would essentially be sending “competition” back to the Doctor in order to save his life (and the multiverse). I don’t think their interactions would be nearly as catty as when Rose met Sarah Jane since Rose matured a lot since then, but I also think Martha would be baffled by Rose. The Doctor always makes her sound so perfect, so impossible, and he never really canonically tells Martha very much about her at all. And Martha is middle class, much posher than Rose, and would likely have at least a little bit of initial judgment there (even if she gets over it quickly due to her compassionate nature). I think this would be what would cement Martha’s decision to leave, though, except it would be interrupted by the reappearance of Bad Wolf. I honestly have no idea how this would change the S4 finale except that I have a hard time imagining “The DoctorMartha” being a thing and the metacrisis happening than with Donna…
Ultimately I think Martha would get more plot if she were in S4, but I think she and Donna helped the Doctor grieve in different ways, and that the sequence of events was important. Say he’s lost Rose, travelled with Donna, but she’s left him because he completely eroded her self-esteem. He’s conscious not to do that to Martha BUT this leads her on, and personally I don’t think he’d be over Rose yet enough to try to move on romantically, so instead he’s just in even more hot water trying not to lead her on but also not to crush her spirit like he did his prior companion, and it would just be enormously awkward. I think he’d have more trouble talking about Rose to Martha in any iteration where she has feelings for him, and the man needs to talk through his issues or he won’t process them!
Anyway all this to say, it was really interesting to think about this but personally I don’t know that it would fix the show’s structural issues or the characters’ relationships really. But I invite other responses and opinions, would love to know what other people think about swapping Martha and Donna’s order and storylines like this!

4-7 general, 2, 6, 14 story, 1, 3, 5 romance for merry, if that's not too much?
IT IS NOT, THANK YOU :D
4. What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?
Approves: - generally selfish actions, or actions that prioritize party members over strangers - actions that seek to further the player's knowledge or power (such as reading all of Thay) - casual violence or petty cruelty - lying in any context, but doubled if it's funny or pointless rather than in advancement of plot (ie playing along with Volo about the goblins/dragon, convincing Blurg you're a mushroom collector, etc)
Disapproves: - offering to help strangers without asking for anything in return - wanton cruelty on a large scale, cruelty to children or animals, or to people who "haven't done anything" (note that her definition of this may be arbitrary and a little hypocritical!) - trying to sway someone from the course they've chosen for themself (so she'll disapprove a lot if you use [persuasion] to get Shadowheart to spare the Nightsong, a little if you say "just kill her" which doesn't require a skill check, and approve a lot of you letting Shadow make her own choice, no matter the outcome of that. Same with Lae'zel & Voss: you'll get a little disapproval for telling her what you think she should do, and a lot of approval for saying "I have your back"). Exceptions are when (she perceives) the choice as being under duress: Kahga is being manipulated by Olodan and Ketheric, Astarion isn't fully himself during the ritual, that sort of thing.
tl;dr she believes in fierce loyalty to a select few, defense of a person's individual freedoms/right to make their own decisions (even if those decisions are bad), self-preservation and self-advancement, and generally being gleefully unpleasant, but doesn't go out of her way to cause needless misery.
5. Are there any instances where your Tav can permanently leave the party, depending on player character actions? / 6. Will they stay with the Player Character regardless of siding with the goblins or the tieflings, or is it possible for them to leave the party permanently? She'll turn hostile if you actively betray a party member (such as killing Mizora and thus Wyll, or sacrificing someone to BOOOAL). The exception is if they aren't a full party member or aren't a party member yet, so if you kill Karlach with Wyll straight off the bat (you monster), she'll disapprove a little but she won't leave. Like Gale, she can be convinced to stay if you side with the goblins, but it's a pretty high speech check (DC25, or DC19 if you're also a druid) and she'll leave if you fail.
6. Do they have any secrets that can be revealed? What are the prerequisites for this secret coming to light? I don't...think so? on the one hand she's a very "I have nothing to hide" kind of person who doesn't really feel shame, like, at all lmao. if someone doesn't like something about her, her god, her ecoterrorism, or her past, they're free to take it up with her. (This philosophy has gotten her arrested at least once.) But on the other hand, she loves lying. So it might be less "secrets revealed" and more akin to Deacon Falloutfour, where she tells you something about her Dark Past™ and then later is like "oh yea i was just messing with you lol", repeat ad nauseam.
7. Do they have their own personal quest that spans the course of the game? Can it take different branching paths depending on the choices the Player Character makes? Yes and no. Her quest takes place over act 1 but has different outcomes in act 3. Her recruitment is an alternate route to the shadow druids questline where you can usurp Olodan and convince the others to reject Ketheric Thorm and his bargain of isolationism, thus keeping the grove for the Shadow Druids but also keeping it open and ensuring their help in the final battle. (there's more to it wrt the refugees that I'm still working on, lol.) If Kahga dies, Merry becomes first druid of the shadow circle and stays with the grove, but she'll return for the endgame as a temporary member a la Jaheira, along with the others. If Kahga survives as first druid, Merry accompanies you as a companion and you get the shadow druids' help, but Kahga doesn't join you as a temp.
---
2. How do they advise the player character on Raphael? That's a good question. Is she still his sibling? (She doesn't know this, so the point is moot on her end, but when she's Tav I very much hc that he does.) Either way, I think she's sort of an inverse of Astarion's "they don't play games unless they know they can win": if you want to play with a devil, you'd better have a damn good strategy (and a very rigged board). Otherwise, the only winning move is not to play.
14. How does Tav react to the PC becoming a mind flayer? Can they offer to become one themselves? Does their reaction change if they’re romanced?
Of course she can ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) She will start offering as soon as the Emperor reveals themself, lmao. Whether romanced or not, if Tav becomes a mind flayer she will be pelting them with questions. Do you have a sense of taste? Do you see color? Do you see more colors? What number am I thinking of? Do you, personally, perceive yourself as the same person you were before? The only difference if she's romanced is that there are a few (and only a few) more questions about tentacles. If she becomes a mind flayer, you are treated to a humorous but very unsettling scene of her figuring out her wildshape (think animorphs levels of body horror).
--
1. Is your Tav a romanceable character? Are there any specific requirements to romancing them? Yes she is, and no requirements other than that she's a full party member (so, it starts in act 2). Like Lae'zel and Shadowheart, a new dialogue option will pop up once you get to a high enough approval.
3. Are they a polyamorous or a monogamous option? Poly! She can be romanced alongisde Gale, Astarion, and Shadowheart, and is open to romance w Karlach and Zel (but they're not interested ):). Ironically, she and Halsin don't really like each other at all (in an "I respect you as a professional but you are not my type of person" kind of way, not any real vitriol) so they are not simultaneous options lol. on second thought, it makes more sense if she and halsin are mutually exclusive entirely and she only joins you if you actually complete her version of the quest. especially since if they're not, you end up with three recruitable druids which is...not balanced lol.
4. Does the romance have different branching paths, or just one route to take? For some reason I'm stuck on this one, lol. I think it would be really fun to give her dynamic endings based on if you're romancing her with someone else, but I can't think of any branching paths for just her alone. The three of you should definitely be able to usurp Mystra together. she's not that special. we can take her.

Thoughts about Sophies and Oralies relationship? What will happen? Are they going to be friends again? Will they become a mother-daughter duo?
I've been wanting to talk about this for a while so thank you for giving me a window anon! And ignore the fact that you asked this over a month ago in my eyes it has been merely a day
(and on a side note if I take a while to answer an ask please don't let that deter you from sending them! I promise I am incredibly honored with every ask I receive and am working on it slowly but surely)
Okay there is A LOT so I'm putting it under a cut
tl;dr: Both Sophie and Oralie messed up involving their relationship, but I think they're going to make up before the end of the series.
Sophie and Oralie's relationship is a really controversial topic everywhere in the fandom, and it's easy to understand why. From where I see it, the two main arguments are either "Sophie completely overreacted and Oralie was 100% in the right" or "Oralie's a jerk who ruined Sophie's life and Sophie had every right to get mad." (Obviously these are exaggerations, not calling anyone out in particular)
(LOL this reminds me of one time I made friends with like a 9-year-old girl -I think I was 16ish- who liked KOTLC, and I had Kenric and Oralie on my phone case at the time, so I showed her my case and she literally took my phone, punched the spot where Oralie was and walked away, never to speak to me about KOTLC again
Anyway back to the analysis)
But as I see it, neither of them was entirely in the right.
As someone who loves both Sophie and Oralie, I think it's a very complicated situation to which neither of them reacted the best way. In Sophie's defense, she did have every right to be upset, even angry. She'd known this woman for what, two years (ish??? I think?) at this point and never once had any indication that she was her biological mother. I would be very angry about that, and I have a stable family situation, unlike Sophie. Sophie's a teenager who's been through a lot of trauma, especially family-related trauma. She had every right to have the reaction she did.
And as much as I love Oralie, I can say without any hesitation that she had a bad reaction to Sophie finding out. There's more about why I think she reacted this way below, but she just kind of froze. Didn't really apologize, didn't explain, just went... hmm, might we say numb??? (*cough cough hint hint*) Not exactly a good way to convince your daughter that you care about her.
BUT I also think that Sophie's reaction to Oralie was a culmination of all of her frustration and anger about the whole situation. She deserved to be mad at Oralie, specifically, but she was also taking out a lot of her anger on Oralie. Because Oralie was a really easy person for her to take it out on. She 1) had been there all along and saw what Sophie went through, 2) had just participated in a highly emotional situation with Sophie in which she was encouraging Sophie to be honest and 3) didn't really fight back.
However, as justified as Sophie's original reaction was, I think she's purposefully holding onto her hatred at this point in the story. I'm not blaming her -I actually think this makes a lot of sense- but there have been many times when Oralie's cried or gotten emotional about Sophie/Kenric/whatnot (she's a very emotional person and I love her for it alright) and Sophie's gone like "sympathy what no I can't feel sympathy I'm reminding myself that I hate her". This is fascinating to me, how she's been betrayed so many times by people she cared about that she doesn't want to let herself believe that Oralie actually cares about her.
And then there's the whole thing about why Oralie reacted that way. She has actively shown how much she cares about Sophie at every opportunity she really could, so why did she not try to convince her daughter about how much she really loves her?
I think it boils down to two things: fear and being an Empath. If Kenric hadn't died, I honestly think that she would have told Sophie the truth much earlier in the series. But after he died, she was scared that she'd lose more people she loved, and purposefully tried to help Sophie while putting up more of a wall between them.
I think Mr. Forkle's death contributed to that as well. In the Nightfall-Flashback era, Oralie is in like two scenes in total. She'd lost one person she loved, and then watched Sophie lose someone she cared about. Oralie blamed herself a lot for Mr. Forkle's death, since he did die to protect her (their relationship is fascinating to me). After that, Oralie put up even more of a distance between herself and Sophie- not because she didn't care. Because she'd watched two people who she cared about die in horrible, violent ways, and the last thing she wanted was for that to happen to her daughter. It was easier to put distance between them, especially since the Council had just been targeted. If there wasn't an obvious relationship between them, the Neverseen wouldn't use Sophie to punish Oralie, as a Council member.
And then there's the fact that she's an Empath. It's obvious from her relationship with Kenric (especially *that scene* in Unlocked that I will never recover from) that she is a pro at hiding her emotions. As an Empath, she has to be. But my theory is that Empaths have to hide their emotions well, but over time, they forget how to use the emotions they've hidden- kind of like a minor version of what happened to Vespera.
I legitimately think that Oralie forgot how to care about Sophie- and not that she ever didn't care about Sophie, she just knew she couldn't actively show her support, so she tried to act more as a Councillor than she did as a mother. She's pushed that side of herself down for so long, not wanting anyone to find out that she's Sophie's mother because of the drastic repercussions that could have, that she's forgotten how to use it. She's used her Councillor guise to protect Sophie for so long that she forgot how to stop using it.
Oralie's helping Sophie with the caches and with finding out what Kenric hid, as emotionally painful as it was for her, is a strong sign that she is trying so hard to care. She's realizing that she can't be a Councillor and a mother at once, as much as she tried (WOAH Y'ALL the parallels to Shannon's own life :| projecting on her characters, she's just like us). That's why she had such a dramatic switch in Stellarlune. The personality swap, the outfit change, the secret office... it's all her trying so desperately to prove to Sophie that she's willing to stop being a Councillor to show her that she cares.
And Sophie still doesn't believe her. It makes sense under the circumstances, but I think both of them are going to regret this.
(subtly transitions into what's probably going to happen in the next book)
I think it's going to take the revelation of Oralie's secret for their relationship to actually heal. Whether Oralie's forced to reveal it herself, someone else reveals it, or it's discovered against her will, I am like 99.6% sure that it's going to be revealed to the world. There wouldn't be such drama around the whole "knowing your parent's identities could topple the world" thing if just that wasn't going to happen.
When Oralie's identity is revealed, Sophie's going to have to make a choice: To stand with her or against her. And I think she's going to stand with her. Because as angry as she is, Oralie is not her enemy. She's a flawed, broken person who's made both good and bad choices- just like Sophie herself. I think Sophie's matured enough by this point to realize that.
There's probably going to be an emotional scene where they make up- and a strong likelihood that this scene happens as Oralie is dying. I described in detail why I think she's going to die here so I won't explain it too much, but it would honestly be just like Shannon to make a super dramatic, emotional scene as Oralie is dying where they finally make up and end on a good note before she dies.
But as much as the angst-loving part of me would eat that up, I also think it would be amazing for them to become a girlboss mother-daughter duo and just like defeat Neverseen members together. I think between these two options, it depends on how late Oralie's identity is revealed. If it's late in the story, like right before the final battle or something, the first is more likely. However, if it occurs early in the final book(s) then I believe it's likely that they do have a good friendship for a while before the book ends.
If Oralie doesn't die, I think she and Sophie will remain friends. Sophie won't call her Mom, and Oralie won't be offended by that, but they'll still have a solid, deep relationship. I can picture Oralie being in the audience at her Foxfire graduation, the two of them having lunch together, Sophie taking her to the Forbidden Cities and showing her where she grew up. At that point, Oralie will likely have sacrificed something major for Sophie (probably her Councillor position) and Sophie will know that, even if she doesn't see her as a mother, Oralie really does care for her.
KOTLC is all about how your family isn't just who you're related to, it's who you choose. So how poetic would it be if it ended with Sophie and Oralie deciding what their relationship will be? They won't be mother and daughter, but they've bonded to have a beautiful friendship despite all the hardship and pain.

once again Comparing/Crossing over ROTTMNT with Something Else™. Today I bring you Fire Emblem Fates Rottmnt ! I'm thinking abt this as if it were an AU and the turtles take up the royal childrens' places. This is gonna be long, TLDR at the end.
First obv is deciding which side they're on and I do that by basing their personalities off of the other characters. So I was thinking Nohr. I think Hoshido would be a good fit for the sake of "Being The Good Guys" and Karai would make a great Mikoto, but the 4 siblings just. don't fit for the Rise Siblings, I don't think. Ryoma for Raph MAYBe works? Takumi for Leo or Donnie is like. Alright. I can't see Hinoka being anyone and Sakura is way too shy and (for lack of a better word) weak ? And I think I'd want April to be Corrin, only cuz I don't know who else Corrin could be.
I find the Nohr Siblings to be the best fit. Xander as Raph, alright I can see some differences but mainly I think it works. Camilla as Leo I think it alright. They're both laid back but deadly and. Look, they're both the face people. Kind of. Camilla is definitely self aware though. Leo as Donnie ??? literally a perfect match idc. I think it's a little funny that Leo doesn't fit Leo but oh well. Mikey for Elise also works really well I think, very friendly & the sunshine in everyone else's lives.
I have no idea who the Hoshido Siblings would be then but that's alright they don't matter here ..!! Azura I have /some/ thoughts for. My first was she's Venus de Milo (i know not rottmnt technically) but she could also just be Big Mama's Assistant since I feel like they're definitely supposed to be a turtle. I also have never read or seen anything where Venus was in so maybe their personalities don't fit at all. My second thought was Casey Jr. I don't have much to explain besides that I just . it makes sense in my head ? Like we don't know that much of Casey jr to begin with and maybe he's more excitable than Azura but !! Really don't know who else would be her !!! Someone help me !!!
Ughhhhh okay I know Draxum would be King Garon and the Dragon Form thing would be like Kuroi Yuroi Draxum but FUCKKK YOU UU!!! Hes my babygirl and im really upset You're making me do this ,, thats messed up,,,,,,, im just a little boy,,,,, who likes draxum ,,,,,,,,, how could u
The rest of Nohr is like the foot clan ig idk, Iago would be like Foot Lieutenant , Hans is Foot Brute .. I want Cass to be SOMEone but mm I have no clue who? Rinkha seeeems kind of close imo but she's not on Nohr's side so it might not be fitting? idk
April as Corrin also doesn't seem exactly right (mostly to me just cuz Corrin's the third youngest, but April's the oldest in the show) But it could still work I think kind of. Alternatively Casey could be Corrin? Might be a better fit? Then maybe April could be Azura ,, same 1st letter of their names ,,, But I think April Corrin works alright (especially if Karai is Mikoto :3) Mainly cuz I don't think April for Azura works that well, they're pretty different
Maybe the purple dragons are hoshido? or idfk the mudd dogs,, I don't think there's any other Group that has at least 3 members (besides the cookie scout girls but erm)
TL;DR: They're the Nohr siblings (Xander Raph, Camilla Leo, Leo Donnie, Elise Mikey, Corrin April), Draxum is King Garon (begrudgingly) and Azura is either Venus de Milo/BM's Assistant or Casey Jr :3
I'd love to hear others' thoughts I am begging for others' thoughts cuz I fucking !! love !!! talking abt this shit I love love love doing this Im so autistic

heard you were bored so here are some questions :) (i realized halfway through that these are all durgetash because those little shits have taken over my mind) do you like leaning into the angst of durgetash or do you prefer the more lighthearted (aside from the atrocities) dynamic? if larian dropped a gortash romance, is there any icks that would absolutely ruin it for you?
or conversely, what would be the best thing they could add in a hypothetical gortash route?
what were your biggest inspirations for lophi and vyper? do you prefer one over the other or are they equal in your eyes?
(hopefully you won't have to answer these since you'll get out of work soon)
HELLO ANON. im sorry to tell you infact waited till i actually got home to answer these because i have!!! THOUGHTS and OPINIONS about the questions asked . thank you very much btw these are all really good questions ill have fun answering
FIRSTLY, it all depends on the kind of durge gortash is being paired w imo. with vyper i tend to lean more into These Two Are Fucking Insane while w/ lophi i lean more into the sort of melancholic 'angsty' side of durgetash that i think can be real yummy too. and it's all because of who vyper and lophi are as characters pre-tadpole, too. vyper liked being a loud insane freakus while lophi was a lot more reserved and kind of a miserable mess, and that informs their relationships w/ the characters around them. i think both are good and fun to explore and i definitely like exploring the more angsty side w vyper x gortash and vice versa w lophi x gortash, so. i guess both. really. LOL .
secondly, going to answer both of the gort romance related questions in one, but i think i'm probably in the unpopular opinion that gortash doesn't really neeeeeeeed a romance and i could go without it in game. i do think he deserves more content and screentime, but that's something i can say about orin also, and frankly a Lot of parts of act 3. me and act 3 have a toxic on/off again relationship. alright.
that being *said*, if i was mr larian and i was to implement a gortash romance, i'd have it be something exclusive to a durge/evil run. or at the very least, have it have consequences with your party (i.e karlach leaving or something. love gort but i do not think you should go off romancing him scott free).
i Do think having it be exclusive to a more evil-aligned run would help add more actual content to doing an evil run (and god knows we need some with how bg3 seems to like punishing people who just want to do the evil options They Gave You) and would make the most sense, but all in all i'd just hope it's handled better than the mizora sex scene cause god how that whole thing is handled still pisses me off. hopefully this all makes sense
tl;dr, its a fun idea but i can very easily go without it especially knowing how the game treated its one other antagonist romance option
now for the lophi and vyper question... i do obviously have my biases towards vyper /looks at my blog theme/, but i genuienlly cannot pick favourites with them besides that... i use them both to explore different aspects of the durge origin in different ways bc despite what some other people say i Do think you can be very flexible w durge as a concept despite the pre-established lore for them ^_^ and i think it's very fun to play around with.
as for specific inspirations, lophi takes a lot of insp from vintage pierrot art + has accidentally gotten a very 1920s makeup vibe in My Mind. i should also note her name comes from the scientific name for anglerfish, cuz thats what i had in mind when giving her those freaky sharp ass teeth i always draw her with
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and while of course, both of my durges are trans, lophi specifically was birthed from my want to make a dark urge that leans in as heavily as she possibly could in the whole trans allegory thing. so theres that as well!
vyper's specific inspos are harder for me to pinpoint cause he's much more of a 'made up as i went' character than lophi, given he was my First dark urge and i didnt really fully know what i was going into all this yet while making him (and also i was maybe a little bit high while doing so...lol) THAT SAID THOUGH, i did initially make him with akira fudo from devilman in mind. he has the horn style he does because it reminded me of devilman ... although the akira insp is very lose and barely effects his character now.. ~_~ despite bg3 being my main fixation atm devilman is still a very very important piece of media to me so vyper being loosely akira-pilled is not too surprising if you know me well enough lololol

evil dead rise was one of the most overwhelming and disgusting blur of a film i have ever seen. i remember the first time i watched evil dead rise. i went with my older brother and mom for a late night viewing (which probably wasn’t the best idea). fun fact: i left that cinema crying. not crying because i was that scared, but overwhelmed. now to be fair, i have seen it 4 times, 3 of which in cinema.
and before you ask, no it never got easier.
lee cronin’s 2023 horror flick EVIL DEAD RISE has truly horrified audiences to their core. with an unhealthy mix of brutality, death, family, and demonic skin books, evil dead rise truly accomplishes what it set out to do — disgust. personally, i did not like this evil dead rendition on my first viewing. we had absolutely no idea what was going to happen in next hour and a half, and was very surprised. evil dead rise made $23 million in it’s opening weekend, which is decent for a budget of $15-$19 million. it was on my second watch that i actually began to enjoy and understand the film. so, what’s so scary about this film?
tl;dr: boy steals scary book, gets mom possessed, mom wreacks havoc, sister kills possessed mom, unhappy ending! okay so that’s not everything, but that’s pretty much it. the film actually begins in a lake-side cabin, where a “sick” girl is actually possessed, and kills her two cabin mates by the lake. after a beautiful title card, we cut to our family home. here we have our mom ellie, her kids danny, bridget, and kassie, and her road-tech sister beth. ellie sends her kids for pizza, but get stuck in an earthquake on their way back. a crack opens up an entrance to an underground bank, where danny investigates against his sisters’ wishes an finds a book covered in skin. being the teenager he is, he smuggles it back to the house. he opens it and finds 2 records. he plays them as his mother goes out to do the laundry downstairs. all hell breaks loose in the elevator, as the cords begin to wrap around her and attack her. we return to the apartment, where the now possessed ellie begins to let loose. she attacks beth and the kids. this takes up most of the film, ending up with bridget turning into a deadite “killed” by danny, who then gets turned into a deadite by bridget. kassie and beth escape, and are met with the final boss, an amalgamation of ellie and her kids. they tussle, and the film ends with the mass getting chewed up in a wood chipper, and ellie’s head being destroyed by a chainsaw. but it doesn’t end, because we see the possessed girl from the very beginning discovering the mess, and getting possessed. how creative!
now, there are some things about this film that i really like, and some i really hate. after watching the film so many times, my opinion has actually gotten worse. so, i originally really enjoyed the film (despite crying when i left). but once i kept watching i began to find myself enjoying it less and less.
so, the thing i really hated about this film is a lack of pacing. it seems that they had a vague idea with the story but put all their energy and time into the gore rather than an interesting story for the audience to follow. the pacing was lackluster, like, there was literally no time to think or react. though it could have worked somehow, it just didn’t. you can get a brief idea of the story, like the mom gets posessed and stuff, but there’s a lot of story points that the film basically introduces and ditches. like isn’t there that entire character point that beth is pregnant? i’m pretty sure that it’s meant to be a pretty important character feature, but it’s just brushed over. and then the kid’s dad leaving, that’s never really explored in relation to the characters being vulnerable. and even why the necronomicon is there in the first place. like, the character relationships are minimal and rushed. like i said, their dad leaving should have made their relationships strong or at least have some kind of emotion, but we literally didn’t realise that beth and ellie were siblings. that’s the main thing about evil dead rise that i really didn’t like. however, the good does outweigh the bad (maybe).
onto the good! i think what makes the film so jarring is not only the gore, but just how realistic the characters are. though my brother thought that some of the characters were cringe, and to be fair, sure, but the characters seemed like normal people nowadays. ellie feels like a mom you’d find in that kind of area, a little rough around the edges, but she has such a strong heart. her character as a mother fits so well. bridget is someone who i’ve definitely seen somewhere. i think that her character is really interesting. though politics is something i don’t really life in films, i think that her protesting and her sign on her door builds her character really well. it shapes her as a person of the times, and her character is actually pretty realistic for the time and area in which the movie is set. danny as well, he just seemslike an older brother. though his character isn’t really fleshed out, his role as an older brother is really nice to see. you can tell that all the characters really care for one another, and their family dynamic is really nice.
and then there’s the gore. wow. the gore in this film is ridiculous, like my god. though it is extreme, it’s done really well. i think everyone remembers the cheese grater scene, and though it is nasty, literally all of the gore in bridget’s death is so gross. the elevator scene was really uncomfortable to watch, i mean, that was an insane amount of blood. though i can’t imagine it was much better filming that. though it's excessive, the gore is really well done. props to the physical effects team, truly. it fits really well to the story, like, the gore seems realistic to the situation.
evil dead rise definitely has it's flaws, as all films do, but it was such a good film. i really do think that the movie will stick with audiences for years to come. maybe not for the right reasons though. i know a lot of people weren't really a fan of this evil dead rendition, and to be honest, that's fair, but i do still think that it stands strong!

*   🥀  𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒚 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈
* samantha logan, cis woman + she/her  | you know darcy king , right? they’re twenty-five, and they’ve lived in irving for, like, seven months? well, their spotify wrapped says they listened to solo by frank ocean like, a million times this year, which makes sense ‘cause they’ve got that whole half scribbled thoughts in a tiny black notebook hastily shoved into your purse, feeling alone in a crowded room, finding peace at the bottom of a bottle thing going on. i just checked and their birthday is june 7th, so they’re a gemini which is unsurprising, all things considered.
trigger warnings: death mention, car accident mention, alcohol abuse mentions
*   🥀   ABOUT  DARCY  .
character inspiration: jen lindley ( dawson’s creek ), marissa cooper ( the oc ), peyton sawyer ( one tree hill )
darcy was born and raised in santa barbara, california, daughter of a retired basketball player and a retired model, who moved themselves out of the chaos of los angeles to start a family. they had promised to be devoted to that cause, but frankly, couldn’t stop chasing after the highs of their careers. both were unfaithful. both were still focused on earning all that they could, even though they had enough for a comfortable life. and so, their family was lost in the shuffle.
darcy is the youngest child in her family. her eldest brother attempted to follow in his father’s footsteps and make it to the nba. he played college basketball for one year at ucla. celebrating after a big win, her brother got behind the wheel of a car after having too many drinks. he lost his life that night. the middle child in darcy’s family got the hell out of dodge, got a sensible accounting degree and settled in the suburbs, wanting nothing to do with his family. and darcy, the youngest, was left behind with all the shattered pieces.
darcy was still in high school at the time of the accident and really had nowhere to put her grief. she started acting out, skipping classes, falling in with the wrong sort of crowd. maybe it was all a cry for help, but her parents never seemed to be listening. instead, she was sent to live with her grandmother in the suburbs of charlotte, north carolina.
she got her act together on the surface, for her grandmother’s sake, but the pain was still there and it was easier to drink it away and forget for a while, rather than face her grief head on. at her family’s insistence, upon her high school graduation, she enrolled in school at north carolina central university. instead of diving into her classes, she reveled in the freedom of not being watched for the first time in a long time. she got caught up in party culture and could not keep up with her classes.
without telling her parents ( but after consulting her grandmother extensively ) darcy dropped out of school and moved back in with her grandma, picking up some different retail and restaurant jobs while she figured out what it was she wanted to do with her life.
at this time, she started keeping a journal. at first, she’d just write out what she was feeling, letters to herself, a young woman who was on the brink of falling into darkness. eventually, her writings turned into poems, lyrics maybe, but they were something more and getting those words out on paper did more for her than anything else ever could.
she finally reached a point where she felt stable enough in herself to move away from the only place she ever really called home, not too far away, but far enough to where she felt like she was really on her own. she still has her bad habits, but she’s trying to build a new life for herself in irving. it’s a fresh start, something that she hasn’t been given since she was sixteen and she blew it.
she’s got herself a roomy apartment in the port apartments thanks to her nifty little trust fund, but she doesn’t walk around with the air of someone who has inherited money. her day job is at kahlo’s cafe. so far she’s been in town for seven months and while she doesn’t feel at home yet or like she’s really found what she’s looking for, it’s a start and for that she’s grateful.

The main problem with IzuOcha
Tumblr media
Firstly, let me start off by saying that I am in fact an IzuOcha shipper and yet I still feel like something is missing. Today I finally figured out what it is, so hear me out.
The problem here lies with the writing of the story itself. It is a shonen, so people like rivals, teachers, etc are given more importance. Consider the relation between Deku and All Might or even Deku and Bakugo, how important it is to the show.
But when we think about IzuOcha?
A cute girl that Izuku has a crush on.
Tumblr media
Nothing more, nothing less. It is even highly unlikely that he suspects any girl like him let alone one of the prettiest girls in his class. Not to mention, most of his screentime is devoted to showing his sheer focus on his goal whereas Uraraka's screentime is shown to be fawning over Deku. It's not bad at all because she never goes out of her ways to get Deku to like her but it's also kind of unfair for most of her development to be wasted like that.
Another problem is that the story is written in such a way that she doesn't contribute to anything morally. In fact, her own morals were very messed up in the beginning. She only gave a new meaning to his name and that's that. Even Bakugo and Shouto have done more than that.
-Shouto told Izuku that words need to be backed up by actions during forest training camp.
-Deku feels blessed to just have a normal-ish conversation with Kachhan.
-It was Iida who supported him during Shie Hasaikai Operation.
And many more...
What irks me is that because Deku has to become the No.1 hero, Ochako will never be his priority. Never was, never will be and even she is kinda aware of that which is why she decides to put her feelings away in the Provisional License exam but since then they have grown even stronger, which is quite apparent now.
Tumblr media
- Despite the fact that they know each other very well, to the point where Deku was able to tell the difference between Toga and Ochako in the Pro Hero Exam but he has never been vulnerable to her and vice versa. Even during the sports festival, she decided to show Deku her mask, that she's okay and we later see her falling apart on a phone call with her dad.
Deku also shares his problems only with people like Bakugo and All Might etc. It's not like he makes her look special in any way.
So they're never vulnerable to each other and they don't connect on a deeper level like some of the other pairs in BnHA. Kirishima gets inspired by Mina in high school and decides to work hard to become a hero and later on, Mina takes the inspiration of her Acid Man from Kirishima's unbreakable. Shouto was the one to boost Momo's confidence during their Midterms test.
It goes both ways.
We see Ochako getting inspired by Deku as she attaches wires in her gauntlet/bracelets for better range and mobility. Heck, she even has a special pocket in her Hero Costume's belt where she keeps that Keyring Deku gave her as a Christmas present. It's cute like, really cute how she wants to cherish it and all but it's also very shallow at the same time. Do we see Deku getting ever inspired by Ochako in such a way?
The thing is, Ochako's shipping here comes between her character development. In season 3 the biggest development for Deku was him defeating Muscular, going to rescue Bakugo, learning Shoot style, and setting things with Bakugo and All Might for good. What was Ochako's character development?
This one scene:
Tumblr media
Yes, this one and the only scene where she realizes that for Deku, his Hero work is his priority and that's why she decided that, that should be her priority as well. That's all.
So while Deku makes so much progress as a hero and as a person, Ochako is just stuck with "Oh what do I do with my crush?"
In season 4 there aren't any meaningful IzuOcha scenes. Even the scenes that could have been given to Ochako were given to Iida and Shouto.
They never have arguments!
I don't recall if they ever had even a single argument throughout the show.
Coincidentally, Ochako's crush is portrayed as a wrong thing by people like Toga.
Tumblr media
And the cute All Might Netsuke later becomes a liability in the battle for her.
What's worse is that her quirk Zero Gravity is probably one of the most versatile quirks in the series that can be used for attacking, defense, rescue, chase, and whatnot but because of the lack of screentime, it is never explored in detail. While grappling hooks were a very nice addition to her costume, shouldn't she have come up with that idea way sooner so that it wouldn't look a rip off of Deku's Black whip?
Tumblr media
There is just so much can do with her power and creating new moves would have been a no-brainer but NO! In fact, in anime and manga, this is taken as a very positive thing as we see them doing a fist bump probably in the next episode.
Ochako with her crush is like a lovestruck puppy in the limbo phase. She acknowledges her feelings but decides to push them down. The story also leaves no chance to remind the audience about her crush but we haven't even gotten a confirmation from Deku yet, so she's stuck. And even if consider the future Manga, it's all the same!
Tumblr media
Tl;dr The ship is nice and all but Ochako's crush overshadows her Heroism and they both have other relations that are way more meaningful, interesting, and important to the series. This is why many people find this ship very bland or vanilla.

Hi, since you seem more positive/excited about the triangle possibility than a fair amount of people, can you talk more about why? I fall into "the not thrilled about the possibility, but have a little hope it could result in some good moments" group and would love some more reasons to not dread it. Thanks! And love your writing and love reading your tags :)
hey anon!! i am v sorry you are not thrilled and am always happy to shriek nonsense about why i’m excited (though idk how much it will help bc the tl;dr is more or less i’m hype for a triangle bc i am an incredibly messy bench who lives for drama and if you are not a similarly messy bench, ymmv)
don’t get me wrong, i super understand the trepidation, pop culture is LITTERED with absolute shite examples of love triangles but here is an incomplete list of reasons i personally think beth and rio are the perfect kind of disaster to set up a spectacular love triangle:
the existence of a triangle implies there are FEELINGS at the various points
the use of the descriptor "romantic" applied to said triangle implies ROMANTIC feelings
i am a simple woman and my pulse has already picked up
one of my absolute most favorite things about the toxic stew that is beth and rio is how completely balls to the wall obsessed they are with having and holding each other’s attention and focus
like straight up possessive nightmare people
now imagine wedging an actual rival for one or the other’s attention between the two of them
(something we have not reeeeeally seen before, 206 withstanding and i’ll come back to that, bc lbr beth doesn’t give a fck about dean and rio’s known that for sure ever since he walked LITERALLY RIGHT PAST THE GUY to rail his wife in a public bathroom at her invitation)
(the 204 proximity point has nothing to do with this list it’s just a source of endless delight and that was enough for me to justify adding it)
where was i
mmmmm feelings, possessive nightmares, OH RIGHT
they are also nightmares in the sense that it appears to be physically impossible for them to use their words with each other unless it’s like, ripped out of them which means they’re sitting on ALL THE BAGGAGE between them and it’s just stewing and boiling and
wait, let me back up
look, i want brio sex as bad as the next person
but even more than brio sex? i want them to fight
i mean like, Fight fight
i want the kind of knockdown drag-out brawl that brings Stuff to the surface and leaves them with a bunch of nasty, ragged, pieces dragged out into the light bc lbr they’ve both done some incredibly awful things to each other
(kind of like what 213 was looking like before it all went to shit tbh)
(i’m just saying, beth saying you put it all on me with that kind of jagged, disbelieving betrayal behind it? my catnip)
(it’s up there with rio at the picnic table in 306 telling her that ship sailed when she put three slugs in him)
i live for them being raw and honest and emotional okay
IF ONLY THEY COULD BOTH DO IT AT THE SAME TIME
bc here’s the thing, for the magnitude of horrifying shit between the two of them? i (personally) think that they like it because they are so! twisted! when it comes to each other and i love that for me, specifically
like no seriously a huge part of what i love about the ship is that whole i see your monster and it looks like mine thing they’ve got going on when they let themselves and i am full on foaming at the mouth feral at the thought of them leaning into that
i’m sorry i’ve lost the thread again
wait no that was the thread
okay so basically they’re both ticking time bombs of smothered angst and rage who are absolutely incapable of being normal about each other but are also keeping all of that locked tf down and the only time we ever really see it come out is when one o them is too emotionally overwhelmed to keep their iron grip
you know what brings emotions to the surface?
TRIANGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE SEETHING MESS OF EMOTION THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BRING TO THE SURFACE??????
AND HOW UTTERLY UNEQUIPPED EITHER ONE OF THEM WOULD BE TO DEAL WITH ANY OF IT????????
AND HOW SIDEWAYS IT COULD EXPLODE???????????
like don’t get me wrong there is absolutely no way it’s gonna be pretty but i didn’t get on this busted ass carnival ride expecting nice things, i am in this to feEl stuFf and nothing makes me feel stuff more than seeing the two of them feel stuff and this is  perfect set up for that
you know how they say the opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference?
you know what’s not indifference? big messy emotions
but okay okay okay i am icarus and the sun looms large, lets say they don’t fight, that doesn’t mean they’re not gonna feEl stuFf on their own
do you remember beth’s face in the van when rio hugged dylan??? do you?????
and what did she do after that? went out and robbed him blind and held his shit hostage until he caved in what is one of my top 10 of all of their scenes
and god, idk if we’ve really seen rio really get jealous of attention lavished on beth yet but when i think about it i want it so bad my teeth hurt
and i know i’m not alone here bc i have i think 3 jealous!rio prompts in my inbox rn
(i’m not saying i’m working on it but i’m also not not saying it)
god i just
can you imagine how much fun it could be to watch rio seethe over having to watch someone else be into beth
WHAT WOULD HE DO?????????
ESP IF HE COULDNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT DIRECTLY BC ITS SOMEONE HE CAN’T INTERFERE WITH
oh christ and if beth responded to it??????????
oh gOD thE mESS
idk even if it doesn’t lead to a confrontation (but i feel like??? it would have to????) just the idea of the kinds of feelings they’d have to grapple with and confront within themselves is D E L I C I O U S
also, to jump back to an earlier point: brio sex
i know some people are feeling like the sexy chemistry between beth and rio is lacking this season
you know what’s great for chemistry? fuel
you know what provides great fuel? messy emotional situations that tug at intimate connections and make people feel out of control
you know what’s a messy emotional situation that tugs at intimate connections and make people feel out of control?
you probably guessed it
A TRIANGLE
(and we know that neither of them does well with feeling out of control period at all even without the intimate emotional stuff mixed in so like oh boy)
listen i am just saying given where they’re currently at with each other i cannot think of any situation more ripe for an explosive hook up than one or both of them feeling driven to reassert their claim/mark on the other
would it be nice? no, probably not
would i care? not even a little bit
(don’t you judge like any of y’all are any better than me)
look. to quote marie kondo horrifically out of context: i love mess and the mess potential in a romantic love triangle with beth and rio as two of the three points is stratospherically high.

While everyone and their mother has commented on the scene from 2x10 where Dani and Malcolm talk about Gerald and his validity as a witness in the case, I have thoughts and decided I wanted to inflict them on you.
Basically, I come down on the side of neither of them really being in the wrong, but if pushed to choose someone who is most correct, it'd be Dani. I'll explain why below in the form of a list.
Some Things to Consider/Know About the Argument:
1. That I'm only calling it an argument for the sake of ease. I think a better term might be 'debate' or 'tense conversation' because while, at least from Bright's side of things, it may have the emotional weight of an argument, it likely wouldn't if a neutral third party saw it happen.
2. Both parties are entering the conversation in good faith. Dani has historically done nothing but be kind and try to be understanding of mental health as far as we've seen. There's no reason to think that anything she said was meant to be malicious. Same can be said of Bright, who is normally very happy to explain mental health issues if people aren't speaking as carefully as they should and has shown respect to Dani/Gil/JT when it came to expertise on police work.
3. Malcolm, bless his heart, is projecting SO HARD. It is a basic truth of Prodigal Son that Bright projects on people, but this is intense, even for him. It's clear from 2x09 that he is struggling not only with how his secrets are keeping him from people, but also how his mental health makes him feel like an outsider. Those emotions are heightened during this episode and then you add in Gerald who is basically Malcolm on the surface (both people who are exceptional experts in their field, who are kept from the life they want and the things they love by mental illness/shame/secrets, but desperately want to connect with the world, despite feeling they can never fit in). Therefore, when Dani talks about Gerald, Bright is assuming she thinks those things of him too and takes them personally even though we have no reason to think she means them that way or knows that that's how Bright is interpreting her words.
An edit after initial posting: I don’t blame Malcolm for projecting. It happens to everyone and he’s dealing with A Lot. However, my view of mental health is that while it limits your agency and choices, it does not relieve you of accountability. Just because Malcolm doesn’t choose the feel a connection to Gerald, doesn’t mean he’s not responsible to try and recognize that and then take a step back and remember that he and Gerald are separate people. It’s not fair that he has to do that, but it’d be equally unfair for him to expect everyone else to automatically compensate for his mental state, especially since he has not communicated to them how deeply he’s connecting with Gerald. It’s not fair or right, but sadly that’s how mental illness works in my eyes.
4. Dani and Malcolm are coming at this argument from two fundamentally different points of view. The biggest issue here is that Malcolm's background is in psychology, which is going to be more focused on health and improving the client's life, while Dani is in a police mindset, which deals with solving the case and helping people by getting the murderer off the street. Both of these views are necessary and they're why Bright is such a valuable addition to the team, but...
5. The conversation is fundamentally about Gerald in a POLICE/COURT CONTEXT. The start of this arguement is JT saying "I think we've got a problem. Let's say Clayton did murder Rosalie, could we even get Gerald to court?" and then Gil follows up with, "And if he did testify, what kind of witness would he be?" The argument stems from them needing to consider if their suspect would end up walking because their witness wouldn't be able to leave the house. Which is definitely something they should be concerned about because part of the job of law enforcement officers is making sure that your case is solid, which means your witnesses need to be as consistent as possible.
6. Context makes it clear that no one is making value judgements on Gerald's character; they're discussing if he'd be an unreliable witness. The first thing here is that being a witness, especially in a case where you'd be testifying as the sole witness of a murder, is a) stressful, b) pushes people out of their comfort zone, and c) a skill. My dad was a police officer for the first 18 years of my life, which meant he spent a lot of time in court and fundamentally, being a witness is something you get practice at. You learn how to answer questions, what lawyers are actually asking you when they say certain things, how far you can/should go in your testimony, all sorts of stuff. Gerald, to our knowledge, has never testified in court, is scared to so much as open his door, and deals with insane amounts of anxiety on a regular day where no one comes to his home. To ask him to leave his house for the first time in 14 years to go and testify at a murder trial where he would likely be brutally investigated by opposing counsel (you could very easily make a case that he's crazy/untrustworthy/unhinged because of his agoraphobia and it'd be hard to get a jury to forget those claims) would be fundamentally cruel. No one on the team, but especially Gil/Dani/JT, is in a position to give Gerald the proper emotional and legal help to make sure that he could hold up under questioning so using him as a witness would likely mean essentially throwing him to the wolves and, by extension, tossing their case. Their job is to catch the killer and if that means going in a different direction and looking for a witness who won't struggle as much in court, that's what they need to do.
7. "Agoraphobia does not make Gerald an unreliable witness." Bright is right when he says this, but Dani is also right when she indicates in the line before that Gerald does not qualify as a reliable witness. How can this be, you may be wondering? Bright is talking about being reliable as in being trustworthy. Dani is using it to mean consistent and able to hold up under pressure. Agoraphobia doesn't mean you can't trust Gerald's information or that he shouldn't be believed. However, it would make it difficult for him to meet Dani's definition of a reliable witness. That's not Gerald's fault or anyone's fault, but it is a reality of the legal system and Dani knows how to work within that system. (Bright likely does too to a certain extent, but as an FBI agent he would have been working on a federal level, while Dani would be used to state-level stuff and those are two VASTLY different arenas. Additionally, it's not entirely clear exactly how Bright's profiling cases worked out in terms of if and when he'd testify, but he mostly likely would have been testifying as an expert witness/leaning on his psychological training more than law enforcement training when he was in court.)
8. Dani calling Gerald 'messed up', 'strange', and 'cursed' is not the most tactful, but certainly not enough of an issue to throw her under the bus. First things first, 'strange' within context of what she's saying is referring to Gerald's situation, not Gerald, so I personally don't see a reason for that being an issue since it is a strange situation. Referring to someone as 'messed up' could definitely not be a great look, but I think it really comes down to personal preference. I wouldn't mind it because I know my mental illness does make me messed up at times so I don’t mind the term, but I also know people who would be hurt by that (granted, it's not exactly one of the worst things you can call someone). Really though, it’s dealer’s choice and if it hurts you, I totally get it; this is just my opinion/POV. Finally, Dani says Gerald is cursed to never leave his house and I could argue for a very long time that she's perfectly fine to say that because both in the context of the conversation and Dani's character as a whole, that comment is her trying to be empathetic and realizing that Gerald is not at fault for how he lives his life. It could be worded better, but she means well and the intention, as long as she's willing to improve her wording if it hurts people, is what matters here. She’s aware that sometimes mental illness feels like a curse and I think that wording makes it clear she doesn’t judge Gerald for his actions.
Final thoughts and TL;DR: I really don't think either party is at fault here. They both have very valid points and pretty clear reasons to think what they do. (Malcolm probably could have used a quick reminder that everyone was talking about Gerald and not him, but that's really it.) If I had to crown a "winner", Dani gets it because the conversation was always about the legal system and she's the most in the right about that issue. Malcolm had great points as well and might have “won” if this wasn’t a conversation specifically happening in the context of police work. She, like everyone, could definitely benefit from learning more about mental health and how to talk about it, but I think she has proven throughout the show that she tries to be as kind and accepting of others as she can. This was a point where she slipped up on wording, but her points were valid.

so in one of your asks you said you dont think cas was in love with dean since the beginning and idk its interesting to me because everyone seem to think he was from the start so what is your take on that? idk im just curious haha
ohhh I wanted to make a post about this so thanks for asking!
disclaimer: I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade I just have a different take on this whole thing!!!
So. I see people are like: OMG he was in love ALL THIS TIME SINCE 4x01 and I am like: no.
Was he lost since he laid his hand on Dean in hell? Yes. Was he instantly in love? Nah.
See, Cas in season 4 and 5 is starting to feel. He is conflicted, he is questioning, he doesn’t have ‘people skills’, he is confused by what he feels, he knows there is a ‘profound bond’ between him and Dean and he is rebelling for Dean, because Dean has a point and Cas feels Dean is right and apocalypse and destruction are wrong, and this human is so human and he never had that connection before. Add the sexual innuendos, the eye fucking and the tension between those two and this is what i call ‘classic destiel’. I do have a strong feeling this is partly Jensen’s and Misha’s fault though haha but I am also convinced that the jokes like ‘Cas, get out of my ass!’/’Blow me Cas’ are purely for ‘comedic purposes’ because haha gay so funny (keep in mind it’s still 2008/2009 and things were so different then BUT we still got Endverse which had not only sexual stuff implied but romantic as well - ‘all we have left, Dean and I, is each other, if Dean says it’s time to go in a blaze of glory, so be it’ (I am writing this from memory so these might not have been exact lines but you know what I am talking about).
And then in season 6 and 7 is where things start to get romantic. ‘I watched you rake leaves’, Dean’s blind faith that no, Cas can’t be working with Crowley behind their backs because come on it’s Cas and the whole 6x20 episode is *chief’s kiss* and then season 7 and Cas dies to make things right and Dean keeps his trenchcoat and moves it from every car they have been using that season to always have it with him because part of me always believed you’d come back. OK, but I was meant to be talking mostly about Cas’ point of view. Which takes me back to 7x23 and I’d rather have you, cursed or not. I think these words had a major impact on Cas. Something just clicked. Because he realized that he could say these exact same words to Dean and they still would be true.
And then we got season 8 which was a major shift and it really moved stuff from ‘sexual tension’ to ‘romantic tension’ and it’s still called ‘season fanfiction’ because I wanted to keep them away from you in purgatory and Cas generally not feeling worthy of anything but I think this is when he started to realize that what he feels is not like ‘brotherly friendship’ but something much deeper but he had his issues (I don’t deserve to be saved from purgatory thing) so he kind of kept it buried. But this was when the Real Love really started. But did he admit it to himself? Well I am not in Cas’ head but something must have been on his mind - Naomi had access too his mind and she immediately recognized that there is a certain Feeling that is dangerous and Cas needs to be fucking lobotomized (I still have shivers thinking about it). Did Naomi knew it was love? Idk, but she felt something was going on - that is why she tried to mess things up between Dean and Cas (I only wish he felt the same way ouch my heart....) and Metatron also recognized it, quicker and better (maybe because he spent much more time on earth and was generally a little more powerful and knowing as the scribe of God) and he immediately used Cas’ grace to banish angels from heaven because Cas was feeling love for a human. But did he, himself recognized it as love? Did he admit it to himself? I still have a feeling that no. I still think that his ‘I don’t know’ after Dean’s ‘What broke the connection?’ was honest.
Now let me fast forward to season 12, because this post is getting too long already and while seasons 9-11 had some good episodes and even good destiel scenes I feel this was the time many people - rightly so - were starting to lose faith in canon destiel, starting with Dean not letting Cas stay in the bunker in season 9 and bros acting like they only call Cas when they need him. I repeat - there were still some good episodes, even great ones. And we were shown Cas worried about Dean and being there for him anytime Dean called, there was so much pining but once again let me raise The Question: did Cas know what he was feeling was love? Or was he still confused, not letting himself believe, not being able to name his own feelings and emotions? And this is merely my opinion but this is also time where many people started to be bitter and negative by how writers treated Cas (and other characters in general but I am not gonna dive into that dumpster now, especially the Cas-having-sex-with-a-reaper thing which was awful, but in retrospect is even more awful because if it was Chuck’s writing this seems like some kind of sick attempt to do a conversion therapy and I want to throw up; plus he thought? he was into his boss at gas’n’sip and he thought she was into him and what even was it if not a. bad writing; b. Cas being confused; c. Cas being confused about this bad writing).
So season 12. First of all 12x12, when Cas thought he is gonna die and the infamous line ‘I love you. I love all of you’ happened. I  am 100% sure this is when Cas realized. This must have prompted questions for him. Why did I say what I said? He blurted those words out but why like that? Aaaand after some thinking I think he realized why. He must’ve been like ‘oooops’. But then Jack was about to be born and he had to protect Kelly and then he died.
And then he is in the Empty who says - I know who you love, I know what you fear, there is nothing for you out there. She doesn’t know shit, she just has access to Cas’ mind and apparently those were his thoughts, already at that time, he thought there was nothing for him out there (again, his depression issues) BUT THEN CAS, MY SWEET CAS, THIS BAD ASS MOTHERFUCKER says fuck you Empty in one of his best monologues (before 15x18 I’d say it was his best but here we are) and she yeets him out, because HE decided HE is already saved and he doesn’t need a permission and you can preen and you can scream and yell and remind me of my failings but somehow, I'm awake. And I will stay awake and I will keep you awake until we both go insane. I will fight you. Fight you and fight you for... ever. For eternity.
And then Jack dies and he takes the humiliating deal.  And now we’re at 15x18 and he says: ‘I have always wondered.... ever since I took that burden.... What my true happiness can even look like... Because the one thing I want is the one thing I can’t have’. SEE THESE WORDS HERE ARE WHY I CAN’T SLEEP AT NIGHT. BECAUSE THEY IMPLY at least to me THAT:
1. He was aware of his feelings, he knew what he felt was love at the time he took the deal. and after that he was like ‘I guess I am immortal now’ because the one thing I want is the one thing I can’t have so nothing else is going to make him truly happy; this also implies that there is only one thing he truly wants and the rest is just not that important, whatever else happens won’t make him happy which is heartbreaking;
2. He knew what he wanted, so this means that at some point he wondered, he imagined, he took his time to picture the ‘thing’ he wanted. Which is life with Dean. Because he is in love. LIKE HE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS, HE REALLY DID AND HE CONCLUDED THAT THIS IS OUT OF HIS REACH (now people argue if that is because he thinks it’s unrequited or because he thinks that something something hunter life-fighting all the time-no attachments lifestyle won’t allow them to have this sort of life - and frankly, knowing that he learned everything, or almost everything about emotions from Dean, who isn’t really good at them, I am not surprised if he is sure that this feeling is one-sided, because maybe he conquered his fears in the Empty the first time around but taking the deal must have made him anxious and Chuck still calls him self-hating so he probably thinks this is one-sided and he is unworthy of love anyway);
3. He tried to imagine different scenarios that would make him happy but eventually it all came down to That One True Scenario, out of his reach, that couldn’t compare with anything else, and he tells Jack - you know about that deal, it’s ok, I don’t see myself becoming happy anytime soon AND IT HURTSSS
so to conclude and tl;dr - I think Cas realized that what he was feeling was love after 12x12 although he felt it before but might have been confused by it. I do not think he was ~in love~ since 4x01. There was tension and there was pining but no. This feeling evolved, it didn’t *just* happen in the barn.
also i am so sorry this took so long but i have thoughts and feelings and can’t form a coherent sentence since november 5th anyway thanks for asking nonny, ily!!!!

let's talk about severus snape. he's one of the most controversial characters the internet has to offer, with several blogs, channels and pages dedicated specifically to hating him, despite him having one of the most—if not the most—intriguing character arcs the series has to offer. so, as a result of me coming across far too many of said blogs, channels or pages, here's an extremely detailed explanation of why i like him and think he's easily one of my favourite characters :)
1. he's not that bad of a teacher.
just so you know, i'm a teenage girl fresh out of high school. so, my experience with teachers? still keeps me up at night :)
my family is pretty strict about religion. you can guess what that means. anything that was magic-adjacent, especially something that, god forbid, had an entire school dedicated to witchcraft and wizardry was a hard no if i wanted to have any sort of freedom over the media i paid attention to, and any opportunity to go about my life without being monitored to make sure i wasn't suddenly possessed or something. thanks to this, i ended up secretly reading the philosopher's stone in my last year of primary school. i would've been 11 at the time, just about to turn 12, so a little bit older than harry and co. going on what i'd heard from those who had already read the series, i went in expecting to absolutely despise this man. i went in expecting to read a demon. i finished the book and came out thinking... that really wasn't that bad.
my mom found out, so i didn't get to read the rest of the series until i ended up on the executive committee for my school's book club and my friends were appalled that i'd only read the first book. at this point, i'm still expecting him to get worse and... he just doesn't. when i was in primary school, i had multiple teachers break wooden meter-long rulers across my classmates' backs. the first time it happened, i was in infant year 2 (about 6/7 years old). i had teachers who would insult us, based on anything from hygiene to behaviour to intelligence if you looked at them wrong. my sister (who was three years ahead of me) had a teacher who kept her in hours after school was over because the teacher had a written a note in her workbook upside down, and when my sister corrected her, the teacher made her rewrite it, turning the book each time the note was written so it would never be done the correct way.
in secondary school, i had teachers who would actively humiliate us in front of the class if we didn't do as well as they wanted. i had teachers who would throw markers and whiteboard erasers at us if we did something they didn't like during class. i had a teacher who looked for a friend of mine who was petrified of attention and then mercilessly picked on her until she went to the bathrooms to cry. these are the kinds of teachers that i was used to. so, when i read harry potter and read snape, who would have probably been one of the nicer teachers i met in my lifetime, i thought to myself, he's really not that bad. he's just... strict.
antis claim that he traumatised every kid that ever went through his class, that he straight up abused them and... no. he didn't. all of them are comfortable talking back, they talk during his class, no one trembles when he walks past, except for neville, who usually bore the brunt of snape's anger because he was consistently messing up in a potentially lethal class.
after school, i hated the thought of formal education, so now i'm working until i feel ready to do university. coincidentally, one of my jobs is teaching maths and english to kids writing the end of primary and secondary school exams. given the sheer amount of annoyance i feel sometimes, i actually respect him for not being more harsh with them, especially when they're all running off into danger or exploding cauldrons.
he really isn't that bad of a teacher, and we know this, since his classes' owl results are said to be consistently good.
plus, he was written in the 90's when all this was okay behaviour for teachers. hell, compared to some of the teachers in text, given that he goes out of his way to make sure the students are always protected, he's a lot better than most people give him credit for.
2. i relate to him.
come on, the man grew up to be a dramatic, queer-coded, petty bitch who wears all black all the time and likely has at least one mental disorder. i'm a petty, emo bisexual with (actually diagnosed, don't worry) depression and anxiety and I'm in a theatre group. what did you really expect from me?
on a serious note, both of the schools i went to were considered "prestigious". i got into my primary school because of a teacher's recommendation (she was a family friend). the second school i got into was because i scored ridiculously high on the placement test that would determine which school i went to. in primary school, i was the poor, really awkward, really smart kid who got left out of everything, and my best friend was the only kid who was worse off than me.
in secondary school, i was just as smart as everyone else... but i was still poorer, and still more awkward and still got left out of everything.
i got that isolated feeling, that feeling of not being good enough, that feeling where life always seems to have it out for you and that's even though i still got dealt a better hand than snape ever did. so, i get it. i'm never ever going to have it as bad as he did, but i acknowledge what he went through and i sympathise, because i have a chance, but it only ever got worse for him.
3. i genuinely enjoy his character.
this dude went through absolute hell for basically his entire life. the best years he had were probably when he was neck-deep in the group of people who hated witches and wizards like him, but somehow managed to treat him better than the good guys.
all of that, and he still manages to be one of the most entertaining motherfuckers in the whole series, with one of the most interesting character arcs ever. it's the witty lines, the sheer dynamic of his character, the change from the twitchy, hypervigilant kid from the slums to the adult that managed to spy on the Dark Lord himself and save the wizarding world in the process, while still being a hot mess of a person. it's the managing to get shit done while everybody hated him and everything was going to hell. it's the everything, and i haven't even talked about how badass he is.
come on, potions prodigy turned master, exemplary duellist (cough, cough, winning 4-on-1 vs McGonagall, Flitwick, Sprout and Slughorn, and leaving a scratch on nobody, while managing to not take a single hit himself, cough, cough), spellcrafter, spy and one of the only wizards to ever figure out unaided flight. dark arts master, proficient at healing (dumbledore would've been dead a lot sooner, if it weren't for him, most likely). he's one of the most powerful wizards of his time. i've said that any universe where he's actually a bad guy—or just legitimately loyal to the death eaters—is a universe where voldemort wins and this is why. if he was motivated by literally anything other than lily, the wizarding world was more than likely fucked.
the point is, i just think he's neat.
4. spite.
every time i appreciate snape, a snater feels like someone is walking over their grave. every time i appreciate snape, a snater turns blue out of sheer rage. every time i appreciate snape, a snater loses their mind looking for their non-existent reading comprehension.
the spite in my veins is tempered only by the broth of instant ramen and ungodly amounts of sugar, and i'm going to use them all in my mission to cause antis pain when they refuse to acknowledge their lack of critical thinking and analysis skills.
so, yeah. why do i actually like snape?
tl;dr: he's not that bad. for a teacher written in the 90's and compared to teachers i've had within the decade, the guy's just strict. sure, he's a dick (who i personally think is hilarious), but he always makes sure the students are safe and he didn't leave any lasting effect on any of the students. he's really not that bad of a teacher. and hell, he's not even that bad of a person. i fully admit that he was an asshole and i entirely believe he was prone to self-destructive behaviour, but he still tried to atone for his mistakes and he did, is the thing, even though the odds were stacked more or less completely against him. i like him because he entertains me, and because i relate to him, as a teen who went through some shit and probably would have joined up with some bad people if it weren't for my friends and family, and as a teacher who really can't stand my students sometimes. i also like him because it irritates people who don't like him :)
also, istg if any of you respond to this with "bUt hE was ObseSsED with LiLY and just WAnTEd to FUCK hEr," i'm crawling into your bedroom window with the most unrealistic, mangled interpretations of your favourite characters and making sure they haunt you in your dreams. meet me in the fuckin' pit, babe. reread the series, actually think about it and come with receipts that aren't Voldemort, because i don't think you want to have the same opinion as the character who canonically doesn't understand love, now, do you, sweetheart? when you do that, then, and only then, will i consider entertaining your bullshit :)
that's about it from me, thanks for reading!
