Good idea that only you can handle with the appropriate grace... Breath of the Wild Steven Universe AU

So okay I know I’m the big crossover fan but I’m not sure if those fit together too well, actually? I might be able to do a better crossover but at this point I don’t have the major plot points of BotW.

The problem is that SU is generally a little confined with settings in favor of really fleshing out the characters they do use. I also don’t think there’s thematically a lot of overlap?

Like “SU but Steven is in the situation of Link in BotW” would play wildly different because the closest we have to random monster encounters is the corrupted Gems, who Steven would not progress through the way Link does the Bokoblins, rendering the whole scavenging-from-your-enemies moot.

Also assuming we’re putting Steven and Connie in Link and Zelda’s places (which makes sense, as peers and equals who work as a team)- it’d make more sense to put Connie as Link, since she’s in some regards “Steven’s Knight”.

But Steven left alone with an antagonist wouldn’t be a barrier keeper, even though his powers line up with it- he’d be spending the entire time trying to talk this person down, trying to understand them, trying to connect with them. If we’re assuming YD is in the place of Calamity Ganon, or White by the theory that she’s the origin of the corruption- I feel like Steven wouldn’t just call Connie back to him to land the killing blow, he’d want to spend as long as he could in that bubble trying to save whoever he was in there with.

Furthermore, if Connie got seriously hurt protecting Steven, I think he’d be reluctant to ask for her help since we had, y’know, an entire episode (Full Disclosure) about how Steven doesn’t want to drag Connie into serious peril and while the resolution was Connie wanted to fight by Steven’s side, that talk might not have happened in this setting.

So TL;DR you could probably make an interesting scenario tentatively-inspired AU... I don’t think BotW and SU really fit together well enough thematically.

But, for your troubles, imagine Connie trying to convince the stable guys that Lion totally counts as a horse.
