GET TO KNOW ME ✰ [1/10] TV Shows ⤷ Timeless (2016-2018)
"...everybody loses someone that they love, and no matter how badly they want to they can't get them back. And in spite of that, they find a way to go on. That's everyone's history."

i was watching time team (thanks for the rec) and was wondering if its tv magic or are there really people who can look at something like a tiny brown sherd and instantly go "mmhm yup its from *insert culture here* in the mid Xth century*"
Those people with incredibly specific knowledge do exist, although they're not incredibly common. But I've worked with an expert who could look at a piece of rock and go "oh yeah it's X material, probably from Y rock formation."

Timeless's trio is superior because they said one nerd is not enough, we need both a humanities nerd and a STEM nerd, for balance.
And their emotional support soldier for protection.

It's so fun rewatching the Llygadwy episode of Time Team already knowing that it's all been faked* because this time it was a lot easier to spot how early they already knew and pick up on the knowing looks every time something's Not Quite Right. Great educational and comedic potential. 10/10 viewing experience the barbed wire bit gets me every time
Tony showing a handful of artifacts to the camera and essentially saying they're useless now because they're out of context is so important
*Minor note that while it's definitely not a prehistoric or Roman site, I don't think they made it quite clear enough that the 19th century elements mean it still IS a site (albeit a heavily disturbed one)

Can’t believe we’ve already reached the future…2023 felt like a million years away when the show first aired.
Happy Timeless Day, Clockblockers!! Here’s hoping we get more Timeless sometime soon.

I always thought Mick Aston wasn't on Time Team after 2012 because he died. But he actually quit the year before he died unexpectedly, because the producers had fired/sort-of fired Stewart, Helen and Victor for not being sexy enough, and hired a lady in tight pants to be a new cohost.
Her name is Mary-Anne Ochota. She is a model / presenter with an anthropology degree. I for some reason have never actually seen a Series 19 episode so I don't know anything else about it.
I mean, this isn't her fault, and I don't want to be a dick. But this sort of only works as a show where a bunch of awkward nerds and Phil Harding try to explain what pottery is to Tony as he squeals and bounces around. Shaking up the format at that point to bring in the sports dads seems like a lame idea.
Everyone apparently agreed and they canned the whole show soon after. The later serieses are specials or some new e-begging thing on YouTube.
I'm going to go watch a Series 19 episode to see if it is indeed any sexier than just Phil Harding in cutoffs.

Hello everyone
I just saw this video on YouTube by Time Team, narrated by sir Tony Robinson. Works are on the way to build a replica of the Sutton Hoo ship. A crowdfunding has been set up to raise the necessary money.
I am by no means affiliated with the project, but my Germanic archaeology heart is screaming with joy.
The presentational video is here
Funding can be done here
You can submit any amount you are willing to spend, or you can “buy” a gift. They have really fun things on there, be sure to check it out!

For WWII buffs, they aren't kidding when they say they dug the Band of Brothers - the dig site is the English lodging site of Easy Company as they prepared to participate in D-Day.
These recent Time Team shows are incredibly special because they were produced totally independent of British network funding, which gave them the freedom to focus on what is archaeologically important, and to rely on the experts and presenters of their choosing.

I was looking up pictures of trowels for... reasons.. and I found this one.
Tumblr media
Its like 45 pounds but Limited Edition Time Team Trowel
Okay, I know this seems like something I would like. I love Time Team! I love archaeology! And yet... I am not a fan of this trowel.
A trowel is a tool. It is meant to be used. Do you know how quickly that commemorative etching is going to wear off if you were actually using it to do archaeology???
You can get a perfectly respectable Marshalltown trowel for $16.82. That's $40 (USD) cheaper than the swanky Time Team limited edition one.
I get the appeal of the Triple T (Time Team Trowel) but it's needlessly expensive, especially when archaeologists don't make a lot of money in the first place. The people who buy this are probably rich enthusiasts who will put it on a mantel somewhere, and it'll never taste the dirt.
Also, take a look at that hand model... way too clean. Where is the dirt underneath the fingernails? The ugly callouses? The bandaids over blisters??? ARCHAEOLOGY IS DIRTY!!!

Favorite televison shows
thanks for tagging me @starstrucksnowing
What are your top five television shows of all time?
My favorites are bit of a mix from when I was younger(ish), because most modern tv shows are having a hard time to attract my attention (working adult, not my cup of tea and such details), but there are some I can still list
The original Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monster anime (ignoring the filler arcs like that BORING Virtual World arc and the "supposed fourth season" Orichalcos/Doma arc and waste-of-episodes KaibaCorp Grand Prix arc.) I loved the original manga when it was translated to my native Swedish in my teenage years, the anime had the Duelist Kingdom and first part of Battle City arcs dubbed into Swedish and I have remained fond of it since then
Tumblr media
2. Time Team with Sir Tony Robinson and other programs with him, I like history and it is cool to see what they would dig out as "hidden treasures" from history
Tumblr media
3. BBC Historical Farm series with Ruth Goodman. It is awesome to see how different life was in old times and the differences from modern-day life (I like her, ok!?)
Tumblr media
4. Ok, time for something from my native Sweden which is not dubbed from English original voices....eh, Hermans historia between 1991-2002, with the author and journalist Herman Lindqvist as narrator, a total of 29 episodes were made about various phenomena and persons in Sweden's history.
(Doubtful that I could find any GIF, sorry!)
5. Again something from Sweden...I think the best choice here is Astrid Lindgren's Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga and Seacrow Island (original Swedish Vi på Saltkråkan), because I know that Pippi was made into a 13 episodes TV-series in 1969, Emil of Lönneberga is a Swedish TV series in 13 parts from 1974-1976, which is based on the books about Emil i Lönneberga. And Seacrow Island started as a TV series in 1964. Soooo, yeah, huge classics in Sweden
Tumblr media
Honoray 6th place: ongoing anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (known in English as The Apothecary Diaries). I first noticed the manga when it started to be posted in 2017 and man, is the female main character Maomao a such huge refreshment in personality from how the FL tends to be (you know, the problem with STEROTYPES). Loves it for the historical setting, but trying to NOT fall into typical "Harem drama" and romantic weirdness that tends to become boring with time. If you are bored with the current Isekai and other trends in anime that screams "copies of plots/characters/other things you have been before", I think this may be the perfect one if you want a less well-known formula
Tumblr media
I tag @nuredhel @ai-megurine and @chococococya and @lidoshka
