Got a few laughs today in my @shiftythrifting shirt. Strangely, no one asked. Cowards.
The handbag is Enid Collins made for Virgie’s dress shop in California. Skirt was thrifted for a buck, and really that’s all it is worth.

I found mori kei pants!! Yes!!
They were on sale because the store location closes down. They're perfect for summer and very comfy! (I have to do a slight fit alteration but they're also fine as is.)
Check out the cute pattern on them (first detail picture). Aren't the little leaves adorable?
The golden short-sleeved crochet cardigan is thrifted and the blouse handmade (by me!). The lace headband is also handmade (by a friend). This is very casual mori but summer is just not suitable to the usual layers of mori kei.
[Id]Two close up pictures: one of the intricate leaves pattern on a cream-coloured pair of summer pants, one of the bigger leaves pattern on a brown summer blouse. The second close-up shows a young white woman with glasses and two braids draped in front of her face. She's wearing the brown blouse with the leaves pattern on it and a golden-coloured crocheted short-sleeved shrug.
The next 3 pictures show the same young white woman with glasses and two braids posing in front of some green shrubbery, extending her hand invitingly to the viewer, looking ino the distance and slightly crouching down.[/id]

my mother’s book bag ✨ I’m often impatient with myself when it comes to making things, and I can never seem to be fully pleased with the end results. this was an idea I had for a gift for my mother, and (with the help from the strap from a bag she wasn’t using) it came out just the way I had hoped it would. 🥺 now that I’m done trotting it around the yard she is free to take it wherever it is she’d like to go.
made with 100% cotton macrame cord and an old purse strap 💜

Once again the details of my ruffled blouse are smited by the sun. Don't mind the wrinkled pants either, they've been folded away in my closet for some time.

Project: bust darts in linen top
Introduction:
I recently found a white linen tank top while thrifting. It vaguely reminds me of Victorian corset covers, but with modern construction elements such as princess seams and a shirred panel in the back.
Linen's great: it's strong, breaths well, dries quickly, and it's easy to clean. The only downside is its tendency to wrinkle, but that's nothing a good ironing can't fix.
Either way, the top fit me everywhere except for my bust. Clearly the top was intended for bustier people than me. I took it home and decided to add bust darts to make it fit me better.
The project:
Darts are a great way to tailor clothes. They're basically small fabric folds that are sewn in place as to shape the fabric to fit your body.
Tumblr media
[ID: a white linen top with embroidery and a button closure in the front, shirring in the back, lace details, and a flounce at the bottom.]
I began by putting on the top. I took my pins and pinched the fabric at the armscye into folds until I found the perfect place and length for my dart, then pinned it into place. I did this for both sides of the top.
I removed my top, laid it out flat, then played around with my pins until my darts where about symmetrical.

There's multiple ways you could sew a dart, but I ended up using teeny tiny whipstitches in a white thread that matches the colour of the fabric. You can barely see my stitching thanks to the linen's texture.

Once my darts were sewn in place, I tried the top on again to see if everything fit now. It did, so I was done.

Conclusion:
My darts in place, I now have a fitted linen top I can use as both a summer top and as underwear. The neckline and armscyes don't gape any more: instead, the fabric's shaped to fit my bust.
As I didn't cut any fabric, I can always remove my stitches and reshape the bust if I ever need to in the future.
If you ever decide to try and sew your bust darts, don't forget to put on the underwear you intend to wear with your garment before pinning down the darts. There's a big difference between say a push-up bra and a binder: both will shape your body differently and will therefore need different darts.

Bring & Buy at Tokyo Boom
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On November the 12th my local lolita community organised a bring & buy event and I was part of the working team! A bring & buy is a specialized kind of flea market: you drop off the things you want to sell with us (the lolita association) and we sell the items. There's a small fee (1€) for each item you drop off. At the end you collect your money for the sold items or get your items back (if they haven't sold). The small fee goes towards our association, we use it towards events.
I knew we were announcing our upcoming Teaparty at the bring & buy event (will be on June 8th 2024), which will be called "Royal Symphony of Roses". This highwaist-skirt of mine is called "The Empress' New Clothes" (after the fairy tale) and also has a lots of roses in it's print, so I decided to wear this skirt in honour of our upcoming teaparty!
I had lots of fun working at the b & b event and it also was a great success! The owners of Tokyo Boom (the restaurant) were also happy and we will hold further events there! ^_^
I bought two gorgeous headpieces for myself. The black one was an immediate must buy and I pondered a bit about buying the white one (because I have no similar black ones, but vaguely similar light-coloured ones), but then my friend offered me a discount and I couldn't resist any longer on the white one!
[id]Picture 1: A mirrored picture of Amy (me), posing in a chair in front of a big Daruma statue. Amy is a young, fat, white woman with glasses and long brown hair worn in two long braids. She's looking very relaxed and laid-back in this picture, as well as confident. She's leaning back in the chair and has her feet crossed over, which you can only see from the angle of her brown-and-gold accentuated boots. She's wearing a thrifted soft pink top and a soft pink cardigan with buttons over it on the top. The cardigan is tucked into her high waist rock, that's also very light in colour. The background colour of the skirt's fabric is off-white/beige and it's adorned with many flowers and portraits of vaguely regency looking women and men in uniform. There are also ships and letters scattered throughout the print. The print seems like a love story, set at sea. The skirt is finished with pale pink tulle lace with flowers on it. The grey tights don't totally match, but sometimes we have to work with what we have.
Picture 2 & 3: Two very similar close-up selfies of two friends: left is Amy (me) and right is my friend @bright-eyes-hope. My friend has an arm over my shoulder and we're both smiling at the camera.
Amy is a young, fat, white woman with glasses and long brown hair. She's wearing an off-white flower crown, further decorated with pink flowers. She's wearing a soft pink cardigan. My friend is a young, thing, white woman with glassed and short red hair in a kind of pixie cut. They're wearing a black bow in their hair and a black hoodie with cats on it.
Picture 4: A picture of the two lovely headpieces (black and white), that I bought at the bring & buy. Laying above them is the flower crown I wore for this event. The flower crown is offwhite and I further decorated it with single pink roses (to match the pink lace of my skirt). See picture 5 for a description of the black headpiece, as that one also shows it better/in clearer detail. The white headpiece is by Triple Fortune and features one big white bow with "Triple Fortune" written in gold, as well as multiple white roses and decorative pearls. Multiple asymmetric white veils drape down from the headpiece. The black and white headpieces are both so lovely!
Picture 5: A close-up of a lovely round headpiece by Atelier Pierrot. It's made from black lace, with black roses and black little satin ribbon bows around the rim. Some white pearls give the headpiece a bit of sparkle and further glamour.
Picture 6: The unmirrored original version of picture 1![/id]

What do you guys think of this shirt? I got it from a thrift store years ago and I haven't really worn it since trying it on originally so I was thinking about getting rid of it, but I'm actually kind of digging it now that I'm seeing it on myself again. My boyfriend really likes it but I'm also trying to downsize so I'm unsure of whether it should stay or go.
