Alana Bloom: revelations and character development
Tumblr media
As I'm starting outlining an Hannibal fic focused on Hannibal's past as a university professor (which I very pretentiously call a 'Hannibal prequel' in my mind), I feel like writing a piece on Alana Bloom. She was Hannibal's student so she's got an important part in my plot, even if the professor/student relationship she had with Hannibal then won't be the primary subject. There's just nothing interesting to do with this subject, except for a story of an unsuspecting student pining for her professor. Meh.
But back to Alana: in season 1 and 2, I often didn't like her. She was supposed to be this very smart and skilled psychiatrist, even bragged once about being often right, yet Hannibal played her effortlessly. Alright, he was good, but the fact that she didn't even considered the possibility that Hannibal wasn't who he claimed he was, despite Will's repeated accusations, never sat right with me.
There was a point where I even began wondering what was the point of her: she seemed to be there only for the sake of bickering with everybody and being in a love triangle with Hannibal and Will. She seemed a bit to be the beautiful idiot of the story, even though she was theorically much more than that!
Then season 3 came and it completely changed my perception of her. And it even helped me understand her better, including how she behaved in season 1 and 2. The fact that she fell so hard and fast for Margot, a woman who because of what her brother put her through was at least as 'unstable' as Will was, and finally helped her commit a murder says A LOT about Alana.
She would probably hate to admit it, but I think Hannibal helped her come to terms with the fact that she doesn't want to be with someone 'stable'. In season 1 and 2 Alana believed she was drawn to Will in spite of his issues, and that she dated Hannibal because HE seemed stable. But then why Margot? There's only one explanation for this: Alana fell for Will, for Margot AND even for Hannibal because they were 'unstable'.
Season 3 finally revealed that what seemed like blind naivety in season 2 towards Hannibal was in fact denial, denial of what she really needed. Deep inside I believe Alana always knew there was something wrong with Hannibal, but admitting it would have also involved something about her and she wasn't ready to face that truth. It revealed that she was unstable as well, while she probably spent most of her life pretending she was Miss Perfection, absolutely unproblematic and a paragon of virtue. It was way easier for her to accept the idea that it was Will, the man she rejected because he was too unstable, was the true murderer. She could sleep better at night thinking it was him, than suspecting that the true ripper lay right beside her.
In season 3 we see her come to terms with the fact that it was all... a lie. Alana values life but she's perfectly fine with the idea of taking someone's life if she thinks they had it coming. And I LOVE her for that, because her entire arc is the arc of a complex and interesting character. The glow even shows in her physicality, her general behavior: she seems way more confident, she occupies the space in a way she didn't in the two previous seasons.
Tumblr media
Hannibal probably didn't plan this, but he must have been very proud of Alana ;)

✰﹣𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿
hockeyplayer!abby anderson x black!reader
𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀. you didn't even want to go to this stupid party. but abby would be there, so its a good enough reason to change your mind right?
𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. underage drinking, bad writing, swearing, owen ( yes i am putting him in this category ) LOTS of clichés, like, an insane amount
FLUFF.
set in a 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻!𝗮𝘂 and 𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲!𝗮𝗯𝗯𝘆 because i said so
lowercase intended, also reader as braids in this, i kinda imagined this kind
proofread : meh
𝗮𝗻. hi!! this is my first time writing/posting ever so yea, there will be mistakes and stuff but my obsession with abby took over:) i started this during lesbian visibility week, i HAD to finish it for pride month!!! i'll make two parts for this :)
this is LARGELY inspired by wish you were sober by conan gray and english is not my first language so sorry for the mistakes i'll make, anyways, hope you'll enjoy and if you do let me know<3
Tumblr media
it was still pretty early when you decided you had to leave owen's house. she's not even here, you thought, even after being there for an hour and a half, though it felt like an eternity.
the wolves of seattle, or your highschool's hockey team, had won the biggest game of the season, and owen, a blond football player with an ego the size of the moon, had invited pretty much everyone to his house to celebrate. now normally, you'd decline politely, not being really fond of parties or owen or getting drunk or owen but your friend dina insisted.
oh c'mon, free booze, free food- do i really need to extand the list of reasons we should go?
ok, you said two things, that's not a list dee, you replied.
well, a little birdie told me that abby would be there, you know, considering she's the captain of the team and all. not that you would care, obviously...
needless to say, you never ran so fast to your closet. you had had the biggest crush on abby anderson for what felt like forever but you only found out about her existence two years ago, in tenth grade. she was already popular due to the fact that she played hockey, but that only increased with time. now, at the end of highschool, your crush grew as you and abby did, and even though you thought that you would have enough time to confess, in a few months, you'd be off to college, lips sealed and secret unrevealed.
as you got ready, the only thing that was on your mind was abby's blonde hair, her freckled skin and her large shoulders, which you'd only admire from your seat behind her in english class. the only way you'd ever indulge in your crush was from afar, scared of rejection.
and now, 2 hours later, your green top felt rough against your skin, you had to take you jacket off because it was so hot in there and your braids seemed to pull on your scalp in a much tighter way due to your annoyance. you were in the corner of owen's living room, next to the couch on which dina was seated. she's been drinking, whining about another one of your friend not being here, ellie. dina tried to convince the young girl to come to the party but ellie and abby weren't exactly on good terms after a golfing incident that ellie didn't talk about much. just as you were wondering about the feud between the two, you recognised a blonde braid flowing a few feet away. you had spent enough time analysing every inch of her to feel tingles on every bit of your body when she turned around to look right at you.
her piercing glance met your own eyes and you couldn't help but scurry away from her blue gaze by crouching directly behind the couch.
"what.. the fuck" dina sighs. she sounded dazed, undoubtedly from the shots she's been downing. jesse didn't even bother to look your way, doing heart eyes to a random girl, his infatuation for the night. however, dina had her eyes trained on you and as she quickly scanned the room, you swiftly let out :
"abby's here! oh my god, sh's actually here! dina she looked right at me!"
"well, that's why we're here right? so that you can confess your undying love for her and become her housewife"
you let out an annoyed huff, but the idea made its way into your brain and you imagined living with abby, being able to kiss her every morning and see her with her hair undone from that eternal braid of hers. you'd run your fingers through her blonde locks, untagling the occasional knots and god, you were being delusional.
"ya know, if you don't tell her, you'll never have her babies"
"you're so drunk, shut up!" you manifested your annoyance by slapping the back of her head slightly, raising your hand from your hiding spot.
"seems like i'm not the only one, look at lovergirl over there," dina slurred.
you got up and slowly, sat down next to the black-haired girl and immediately fixed your eyes on abby. she did look a bit off, you thought. some strands from her braid were framing her flushed face and her loud laugh could be heard throughout the entire living room. the room was pretty large, you and dina being on one of the many little couches that were littered accross the room. you were practically in the very back, and on the other end of the room, was standing abby in all of her glory, surrounded by her friends and being cheered on by several people in the crowd around them.
it felt like a bad movie. admiring your highschool crush from afar at a party you didn't even want to be at in someone else's house. but still, you allowed yourself to take the blonde girl in as you sighed. oh, how beautiful she was. her strong jaw was on display, allowing you to take a good look at her sharp profile and the way her broad shoulders stretched her tight shirt. you admired the way her muscles flexed with every one of her moves and how she exuded confidence and calm. you wanted to be hers so bad.
"stop drooling, go over there!"
"yeah right, i'm just gonna go over there and ask her to be my girlfriend, even tough she doesn't even know me, in front of all her friends; i'm sure that'll go well!" you sarcastically said.
"yeah i know right? that's why i suggested it silly!" dina yelped in a high pitched voice.
she looked around a bit and started tugging at your hair a little. she was intoxicated, it was obvious so you gently got up to get her water. you took the bottle of alcohol away from the table in front of the three of you, eliciting a little whine from dina. you turned towards your friend.
"i'm gonna get you some water ok? you do not move, i'll be back right away. jesse will keep an eye on you, right jess?"
"what? noooo, last time she bit me!" the boy complained loudly.
"don't get your dirty fingers close to my mouth, imbecile."
you could still hear the two of them arguing as you hurried towards the kitchen you saw on your way in. you pushed through the crowd to get to the sink, set the bottle down and it's only then that you realized that you didn't have a glass. you looked around a bit and started opening different cupboards in vain. just as you were about to give up, you felt a heavy hand graze your shoulder, followed by a voice you knew all too well, despite never talking directly to the speaker.
"are you looking for this?"
you froze.
abby anderson was standing right behind you, beer and glass in the same hand, you knew that because in addition to her voice and other hand, that was now fully on you shoulder, you could suddenly feel her warmth in your back. realising that the amount of time you spent with your back turned was becoming awkward, you suddenly spun around to face abby, and you almost stopped breathing.
from across the room, you couldn't observe her all that well but up close, you could have counted the freckles displayed on her slightly crooked nose. you could have pushed the strand of hair that was getting close to her eyelashes but the sight of her blue eyes made you feel like any movement would cause you to break. the dimly lit kitchen created a golden haze that surrounded abby, made her skin glow and brought out her freckles and in that very moment, you swore you got into heaven. she adorned a band tee that was just a little tight on her but the short sleeves allowed you to see her arm muscles flex as she moved.
she looked at you groggily, with a dazed look and a glass in her hand. she almost nudged it into you chest, which made you want to scream, but you happily took the glass.
"um, th-thank you!" you managed to mumble two words and regretted it instantly.
"you're welcome, pretty!" abby replied.
and you froze again. you were about to fill the glass with water but as those words left abby's mouth, you felt all your limbs transforming into jello.
"what did you say?" you asked in disbelief.
abby's eyes were still boring into yours, her mouth slightly agaped and you swore you could cry as she retorted :
"i called you pretty! because you are"
your eyes must have opened wide because abby suddenly looked a bit panicked.
"i'm sorry, does it bother you? i won't do it again, sorry" she scratched the back of her head.
"no!" you practically shouted. "it's ..um i mean it's completely fine"
you paused a little before adding :
"you.. well, i- i think you're really pretty too!"
you could have sighed at your fumbling but the girl's grin got bigger at your words.
"thank you! i'm abby by the way! nice to meet you __" when she said your name, you could've fainted. so many thoughts came to mind but you only managed to blink until your vision got blurry.
"i know who you are, how do you know my name?"
you didn't mean to sound rude, that probably came out the wrong way, but what the actual fuck?
"oh well, we have a few classes together. english, physics, french and-"
"maths, i know. you're two seats away from me"
oops. hope she didn't catch that.
she didn't seem to, or maybe she didn't care enough because her smile grew even more, if that was even possible. a small grin started forming on your lips but it was interrupted by a man's shadow on the two of you. owen had inserted himself close to abby, closer than you were, so much so that you felt like you could vomit just from the sight. his arm was around her shoulders and you saw her form slightly crisp for a second then slowly relax.
"hey, we missed you for a second back there! whatcha' doing here?" his loud voice made you cringe, and when he looked at you, you couldn't help but furrow your brows. you lived a few houses down, so owen was sort of your neighbor, which was appreciated when abby came over to his house and you saw her on her way. dina called it creepy stalking. she wasn't totally wrong.
"yo, __, right? having fun?"
the sound of your name in his mouth sent a new wave of nausea through your body but you decided to behave. after all, it was his house, his party, his friend.
"uh yeah sure, it's a great party owen. i came with a few friends and- oh shit!" you exclaimed.
dina was still waiting for her much needed glass of water, all alone, with drunk jesse as her only companion. fuck.
you quickly turned around to fill the long forgotten glass of water and excused yourself to the pair.
"i'm sorry, i have to give this to my friend, was nice though, bye abby!"
"bye pretty!" the girl replied as she waved her hand at you.
the nickname made you weak on your knees, which was not ideal when you had to push through a crowd of drunk people. you looked back at the kitchen, seeing abby get owen's arm away from her shoulders. you grinned before continuing your trip over to dina. you were relieved once you heard the bickering of your two friends again, assuming they probably argued the whole time you were with abby. oh god, you actually talked to abby.
"that was definitely not right back by the way, i think i had time to sober up completely" dina sluggishly stated. just as she said this, she knocked over a couple plastic cups on the table. she slowly looked up at you, accepted the glass of water you inched towards her and drank it as she looked away.
"i called an uber, its a few minutes away" jesse, who was still sat next to dina, handed you his phone for you to note the car's travel.
"great, awesome let's um, let's get out of here"
dina quickly finished her cup, and got up, you immediately went to slip your shoulder under her own, carrying a part of her body weight to keep her from stumbling all over the sticky floor. jesse gathered everyone's belongings and followed after the two of you and being less intoxicated than dina, his step was much firmer.
"you're such a lightweight dee," the boy snorted.
the black haired girl flipped him off as she looked his way, and chuckled before standing straighter, pushing through the crowd with more confidence.
"i'm not even drunk, you di- oh shit, sorry!"
"no, no don't worry that's my bad"
it's like you summoned her. technically, dina was the one who bumped into abby but still, the blonde girl was looking at you, right now. she waved again, despite the fact that you were a few feet away from her. you waved back and as you did so, you could feel dina's confused look going between the two of you, before locking her squinted eyes on you.
"oh you two already know each other?" she asked, in disbelief. you opened wide eyes in her direction at the question but rapidly looked back at abby.
"yeah, um, i mean we talked a little in the kitchen like 5 minutes ago"
"mhm and she called me pretty" abby added in a high pitched voice.
sudenly both dina and jesse were looking at you with wide eyes and sligthly open mouths. dina was the first one to tease.
"is that so?" she emphasised every word with a big smile plastered on her face. she was proud of you, truly but the fact that she was drunk altered her reactions.
"ooh so that is what took you so long. you were getting to know each other" jesse agitated finger guns in your side as you tried to keep eye contact with abby. as difficult as it already was, her dopey smile made you feel dizzy in the best way possible and you knew you'd get teased afterwards when abby talked again
"yeah i'd really like to do that. get to know you, i mean"
she said that so casually you almost had topinch yourself to believe it wasn't a dream. once again your eyes got a little wider, which didn't go unnoticed by dine, who snorted quietly. it felt so sweet that you almost forgot you were at a crowed party, close to the door and the stairs in one of the most packed areas of the house, and your carelessness was rewarded by having a drink spilt all over your shirt as some guy bumped into you. the green top you adorned turned dark and the strong smell of alcohol made you scrunch your nose in disgust.
"hey, watch where you're going man!" dina's brows furrowed as she got in between the two of you. the drunk guy mumbled an apology but he rapidly faded in the crowd and disappeared as quickly as he entered the frame. the humid feeling on your chest, however, was still very present and you peeled your wet top off your body with a worried expression.
"fuck" the smell of alcohol clung to your skin and made it's way to your nostrils, causing you to scrunch your face in disgust. abby let out a light chuckle at the sight of your grimace and when you heard her, you didn't care about your wet shirt or the music that was blasting in your ears or the fact that a few minutes ago, you felt as if you were about to burst because of overstimulation.
abby's laugh fixed it.
you were down monstrously bad.
"i um, i have a shirt in my car if you want. wet fabric is the worst feeling ever."
"uhh i don't know, i should go with dina, she's a bit drunk and-" you were interrupted by your friend.
"nahh me? i'm as sober as a judge" loudly declared the black haired girl. as she did so, she let go of jesse's arm and managed to walk a few meters in an approximatively straight line before turning back to your group with a large smile on her face and her arms in the hair, demonstrating her exploit.
"take the shirt, get some time to chat amongst yourselves and jesse and i, we'll be on our merry way" she gripped the boy by the arm she was previously holding onto, and walked to the door with her back turned to it, facing you and abby.
you hurried to her side to whisper scream in her ear "what are you doing? are you really gonna leave me alone? with abby?!"
"hey calm down yeah? just take the shirt and her number, emphasis on number. because stalking her instagram without even following her is not gonna get you anywhere."
"yea i know but-"
"no buts. you go get that shirt and her number. if you don't, i'll be under your bed tonight"
"how old are you?"
"stop being a coward. text me when you get home okay? i want details."
dina kissed your cheek and gave you aa encouraging look before glancing over at jesse, who had a dopey smile plastered on his face. she let out a little sigh before moving her head towards the entrance. he followed her after giving you a little hug and soon enough, they were walking out the door after giving you a little wave.
you caught a glimpse of them bickering in the uber and as the car drove away, you realized abby was still standing a few meters away from you. you turned around to find her in the same spot, right behind you with a light smile and rosy cheeks. she rummaged trough the pocket of her black jeans to get her car keys out of it.
"if you still want that shirt.."
"sure! is your car close?"
"yeah, it's just in front"
the two of you walked to the door, pushing people away a few times, and as soon as you got out of the house, the cold wind hit your face with force. the refreshing feeling made you inhale and fill your lungs with oxygen, savoring the new sensation. you closed your eyes and for a second, the only other existing being was abby. she stood right next to you and if you weren't so engulfed by the fresh air on your face, maybe you could've noticed the way she looked at you.
maybe you'd have noticed how she always blushed when you looked her way or how she was shaking before every single french class because that's when you're the closest to her, just one seat away. and technically, abby could move closer to you but she didn't want to risk passing off as a creep. so she just kept her eyes trained on your silouhette, your hair, your hands whe she'd get glimpses of them from behind you. abby was beginning to get lost in her thoughts of you, so much so that she almost forgot why the two of you were outside, together. as if you could hear her thoughts, you reminded her.
"which one's your car?"
you obviously knew what car abby drove, it was the same one you'd look for every morning in the parking lot and when you saw the grey range rover, your heart lept out of your chest for a second. but abby couldn't know that. she led you to her car and you were perplexe when she followed you to the passenger side, only for her to open the car door for you. you blinked a few times before processing what she did, and the whole time she just stared at you, giving you a little nod to encourage you to get in.
you sat in the passenger seat, abby closed the door and went to the trunk of her car. she retrieved a black muscle tee from it, got in the car and froze. you were in her car. so close she could smell your perfume. you smelled like jasmin and, was that vanilla? abby could never tell. not even after she looked down at the shirt in her hands and turned her head to you, handing you the item. this time, you noticed the slight shaking of her hands and as you took the shirt, your hads brushed. the contact felt like touching an exposed wire, fire pouring into your veins and at this very moment,
you were so glad you went to this party.
an. okkk so this might be a bit short but i really wanted to at least share one part!!
LOTS of incoherence and clichés but i mean.. anything for abby am i right?? i don't know if i hate it or love it but its still my first child
tell me if you like it <3

For send me a character: Drift
thank you karly 🩷
First impression: honestly i knew him from the bayverse movies first and that was… Bad, but seeing him fleshed out in the IDW comics with his spotlight I liked him way more (and finally understood all the bizarreness bayverse drift was lol)
Impression now: he’s not my favorite, but i like him! i wish we had more screentime of him outside of empire of stone and the lost light series because his character is so interesting and i think could offer a lot of perspective and bounce off other characters especially autobots really well, he’s definitely a bit of a gary stu but i like it :)
Favorite moment:
Tumblr media
I think this is Drift’s best moment in the entire series, Drift didn’t come to help the autobots, it just kind of happened, he was only there for Turmoil, Perceptor gets shot and the other autobots/wreckers just leave him for dead, and Drift who just met Perceptor and doesn’t owe him in anyway goes back when no one else would and saved Perceptor, just in case he was still alive, risking his own life. It’s probably his character at its best, he’s helping because he wants to help, there’s nothing in it for him, there’s no one to sway him to make a decision, he does it because he can and he thinks he should.
Idea for a story: After the war, Drift meets several neutrals who are former Decepticons lost and unsure of their place in the world and how to handle the guilt of what they’ve done. As they work on helping others in Cybertron’s restoration, Drift tries to help them, passing along Wing’s message on helping others and the idea that nobody is below redemption if they try, but refuses to take that lesson for himself. In the end, he leaves them making significant progress in helping others who need it but doesn’t feel he’s helped at all, before he leaves however one of the decepticons give him a gift to thank him for his help and asks him to believe in his own lessons. He still doesn’t consider himself as someone to forgive but he keeps their gift with him always.
Unpopular opinion: i think drat.chet is kind of boring :/ there’s not much there after season 1 mtmte which was good but afterwords it was meh. but tbf i don’t think jro can write romance outside of one or two in the moment scenes, long form romance he’s not great at.
Favorite relationship: not necessarily canon but more so potential is Drift & Ultra Magnus, their relationship could’ve been really really interesting in terms of the juxtaposition of their core beliefs and backgrounds and how learning and understanding each other evolves their relationship. between Magnus’ strict beliefs in law and order and Drift’s every changing relationship with goodness and forgiveness as well as their insecurities with Minimus not measuring up to his brother or Drift’s past. Otherwise non-canon it’s what @blighted-lights has cooking for Drift & Ravage as amicas.
Favorite headcanon: he doesn’t buy into crystals as spiritual healing but he thinks they’re pretty and every time he brings it up it annoys Ratchet so he keeps leaving crystals for Ratchet to complain about all over their room and Ratchet’s office.

So I finished going through your 03 reaction thread (again, thank you for the link!), and was a little bit confused about your final thoughts after finishing S5. You seemed to really enjoy most of the series, but then at the end your final takeaway seemed to be "meh. was a'ight." Which! Is fine! The beauty of having so many competent adaptations of the same source material is that people are able to pick and choose their favorite continuity according to their own preferences and what they personally like in their media. But you seemed to have a lot of good things to say about the 03 show, but then your opinion suddenly seemed to shift somewhat near the end. And if it's due to S5, I get it, I did not like that season when it aired either (I think Rise is overall a way better take on the mystic concept in general), but the first 4 seasons are still some of my favorite TV ever put to screen. Absolutely not perfect, they have things they could have improved upon for sure, but definitely solid stuff. But of course, all that is personal preference, and everyone's personal preference is different. So what about the series fell flat compared to others that you'd seen? Did it do anything well or even excellently, in your opinion? Did you have any favorite arcs or characters or anything that you wish other series had also done because you liked them so much? How would you rank the 4 animated series in terms of preference (assuming you've seen all 4)?
Yeah... I figured someone would notice that about the Twitter thread...
To be honest, my reaction thread, well, wasn't honest.
Or at least, the thread was heavily influenced by my attempts to remain positive due to a lot of people, including folks whose opinions I hold in high regard, liking that version a lot. I didn't want to weigh people down with a lot of negativity. But as a result, my frustrations with the show started boiling over towards the end of the thread. That's why at first I seem to be very excited about it, and then suddenly started pointing out negatives.
Like I did for Rise and the 1987 TMNT, I plan to write a video essay on TMNT 2003 with a much more honest and critical take on it. So I guess stay tuned for that.
I'll give more detailed answers to your questions in my eventual essay, but in short:
It was the emotional and familial moments that fell flat for me.
Positives included the intricate plot and varied fight scenes.
Favorite arcs were Leo's character arc in Season 4, and the Battle Nexus episodes.
Favorite character is probably Leo for once. It would've been Mikey if the narrative didn't keep shitting on him all the time
I wish other versions of TMNT had just as solid a plot/overall arc and flow from one season to another (other versions were either disjointed, episodic, or cancelled too early to achieve the same kind of plot structure)
While I don't dislike this version, there are numerous things about it that bug me, and in terms of preference, this is my least favorite version I have seen so far
Sorry if my thread gave you the wrong idea of my opinion. That is totally on me for not being upfront, and trying to write more of what I thought folks wanted to hear rather than some of my actual thoughts. The positive things I said in the thread are still truthful and include things I liked. There were just lots of other things that I didn't like that I didn't include in the thread ^^;
Thanks for asking and allowing me to clear some stuff up!
I'll be trying to post the video essay about TMNT 2003 within the next month, so I can elaborate more on my thoughts there ;3

May the days be aimless. Let the seasons drift. Do not advance the action according to plan.
— Don DeLillo; White Noise
June Reads!
A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers — 4/5: a friend recommended this one to me as kind of a mix between Hannibal and American Psycho with a female protagonist which got me hooked. it definitely delivered on that regarding the plot and food-motif (?). the food descriptions were definitely very beautiful and the protagonist compelling. liked that she was telling her story from prison. only thing was that some of her inner monologue came across a little ‘girl boss-y’ at times which I found corny but maybe that’s just me. I guess you’re allowed to be a bit of a corny #girlboss when you’re literally eating men
The Hauntings of Playing God by Chris Dietzel — 2.75/5: this one was kinda meh? was very excited about the concept (last ‘living’ woman on earth left to care for her patients who’re all suffering from locked-in syndrome (ig?) left to make tough choices) but it just didn’t deliver. it got kinda repetitive towards the middle and could’ve done with some shortening for sure imo. also a little too kitschy in some parts for my taste.
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy — 5/5: even better than expected! I had high hopes for this one and it didn’t let me down! not only is McCurdy’s story incredible and gripping but she’s also a really talented writer.
White Noise by Don DeLillo — 5/5: read this for the first time last year and suddenly got this intense craving to re-read it; turned out I liked it even better the second time round! this one truly has it all: coming to terms with mortality (and failing badly), portrait of family life and marriage, critique of consumerism and modern life, there’s an airborne toxic event, it’s a great satire overall, yet its so earnest at the same time and treats its characters with such fondness and care; such nice structure of the novel too. would recommend this to everyone
Idol, Burning by Rin Usami — 3.75/5: short and bittersweet! a story of an obsessive fan of a j-pop idol; the way she devotes herself to studying her idol as the rest of her life falls apart around her — really enjoyed the contrast between her absolute focus and dedication to her idol and how she struggles in her regular life, school and work especially due to her (probable) learning disability. some passages really hit home for me
Severance by Ling Ma — 4.5/5: enjoyed this one a lot! liked how the narration went back and forth between the current “zombie” pandemic the protagonist is trying to survive (and the dynamic of her companions) and the years leading up to that point. it felt kind of like a coming-of-age story but in a settling into your adulthood kind of way? I liked that vibe and could definitely relate to it as well. also, always a fan of when stories give me the very beginning stages of apocalypses etc. the writing’s really nice too! def recommend

WIP update as I might post snippets of some of these and it will be handy to remember what they are..
I am slowly.. very slowly coming to terms with the fact that TDP is probably going in a different direction with certain aspects of lore and world building than I originally thought and that certain burning questions I have may never actually be answered and hey, that’s fine.. I get there’s theme and minute details about historic events might not be that important to the story being told.. ngl I do miss the flashbacks though, I guess Viren’s dream almost counts..
Plus side it leaves a vast amount of writing ideas wide open and lets me indulge in all my weirdest Viren ships so.. yay?
But also meh… historical world building..
Anyway current WIP projects which are all in various levels of unlikely to ever see the light of day:
Gothic AU which I had planned to be a kinda intense wuthering heights style Kpp’Ar/Viren romance while they sorta accidently unleash Aaravos on the world, but it has now turned more into a tale of academic/magical snobbery in a universe where dark magic is largely obsolete and everyone vies for the last scraps of power to curry favour with the king.. thanks season 5.. Viren is a poor wannabe student who can’t afford the fees to study even the theory of magic.. Kpp’Ar is a very rare practising but shouldn’t be practising dark mage… and because of how show Kpp’Ar turned out there is now more power play in the inappropriate age gap relationship, but damn, I still ship them pretty hard so I guess those student/master vibes have to go somewhere..
It swings kinda close to my dark King Atticus IS CANNON KING ATTICUS backstory… which I badly want to squeeze in around the snippets of what we have despite him seeming like such an utterly chill geezer… but whatever… I want total bastard Atticus who will use and abuse his access to dark mages and magic in order to further the political aims of Katolis… who will plot and scheme with Kpp’Ar to create an intricate web of deceit that no one can penetrate, who will take the deep insecurities of everyone he knows and hone them to his advantage, who will pimp out his own son to Viren to tighten their co-dependence and generally fuck them up…
and then I kinda also want his dying spirit to inhabit Viren dybbuk style, so Atticus can be constantly sniping into Viren’s subconscious whenever he tries to bone Harrow… because that’s amusing to me… anyway that’s basically just a long list of stuff I want but obviously won’t get…
Then ahem there’s my Viren/Corvus shipping, that probably shouldn’t be mentioned, is almost certainly completely inappropriate for this fandom, (as if any of the above wasn’t..) I’m keeping quiet on this one as it’s what I currently spend the most time actually writing and might actually get finished.. oh well.. RIP me.
Plus I still have cyber punk AU on the back burner because whenever I start really thinking about it and theorising on how Xadia and the human kingdoms would look with a hard cyber border in the year 1988 and Aaravos secretly pulling all the strings towards his own dubious machinations I come out with something pushing the word count of Dune and I cry.. because really I just want a little bit of Viren and Ibis smut action and this is the only way my brain can think of achieving it..
So the main issue for me here is that all these ideas clock in way over the 10k word mark that I like to limit myself to in the interests of getting something finished.. multi-chapter is not my friend, nor is intensive world/lore building, nor is development of OC’s, or deviously intricate plot.. so why all my ideas now involve quite a lot of those things I don’t know.. it probably means I won’t complete any of them..
Still I do also have a few 5-10k Virrow angst ideas that I might be able to get on with..

Okay broader episode thoughts (spoilers etc).
Hunter's senses actually being like...useful in practical ways. SENSING THE EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI. Space ranger!!!! He's one of those characters who needs a writer to give a fuck about his abilities to remember to write them correctly and, well, that's been lacking. He's not the first character to suffer this problem. Nice to see it finally being properly used.
The idea of the Batch settling in with a group of refugees--this is the most obvious and natural thing ever, and it's a good narrative about the war. You could make the various 'scared of clones!!!" arguments if you wanted but I suspect in truth they're all too different looking to suffer that like Rex or Cody might. No one here is going to ask them about their situation; they have their own Situations to not talk about. Everyone's on the same page: the Empire and the Republic before it took everything from us; we're not going to survive without one another. Which is kind of the show's theme but I appreciate this episode as a microcosm of it outside the macrocosm of the political/war/intrigue plot. At the end of the day, where could they go to raise Omega and learn what it's like to exist? Somewhere like this.
Which is another thing--Tech off-handedly mentioning how they had NO socialization outside other clones, and basically no childhoods, was a glimpse into an interesting idea: as clones they'te in general are fine at surviving as mercenaries, but when it comes to Just Living, they have been robbed of literally EVERY social skill. Even Hunter, arguably the one who would manage the best at that, is treading lightly and uncertain. Sure, they have great practical skills. and could easily learn trades or whatever, but living with neighbors? Managing simple disagreements in a city council?? These are foreign concepts to them. Tech would be like 'obviously you can't put that tree there, it will damage the foundation.' 'it's my property I do what I want.' 'the tree is unaware of property lines, and as such you are obligated to make a correct decision for it'. (Jesus he would be a fucking nightmare on an HOA.) It's such a fun idea which I know the show isn't going to address but I'm loving the possibilities.
I can't decide where I am on the 'Cid's vid feed was forced' vs. 'Cid is just worried about losing access to them and cranky' thing. I don't really want her to betray them. I'm here for 'one of her associates does' because let's be real she has a lot of shady, ne'er-do-well liasions hanging around who would happily do so and have no doubt noticed the trio of not-clones and their child sidekick.
It feels like a deep fake video from her is a bit less likely in terms of the show's overall writing, though. Which makes me sad because it does probably mean she's going to turn on them. And, meh. I prefer her being shown as practical, if self-serving. She has to know the Empire would only kill her to keep it all quiet. So what does she gain by drawing their attention with a tip? Literally nothing.
I guess we'll see. Next week is the equivalent of War Mantle from last Season I'm sure--i.e. big ol' cliffhanger which leaves us wailing and gnashing our teeth. I might do what I did then and not watch until the following week so I can do all episodes at once. (This happened to me accidentally with The Crossing and I don't know how you all survived I'd have been like NO THE SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH for 7 days. Sorry Tech Omega is right.)

So I watched season one and season two back to back.
My general take on the writing was: meh. But that’s actually high praise from me, since I came to it as a Terry Pratchett fan who bought and loved the original book when it was first published.
I have so many friends who love Neil Gaman’s writing and have recommended it to me for decades. I’ve tried to read American Gods three times. The only thing I remember is the giant ball of yarn, which is the point I’ve given up every time. I did finish another of his books, but just…didn’t like it. Lovely descriptions, but just no characters I was interested in. I haven’t even managed to make it through the TV versions. I quit Sandman after twenty minutes, at the point that everyone that wasn’t an unpleasant white man was dead. I mean, honestly, I work in tech - if you swing a cat, you’ll hit a white guy who thinks he’s nearly supernatural . It’s too workaday to be entertaining.
So I’m pleased I managed to make it through Good Omens 2 with no complaints about the writing - though I dearly miss Terry’s trademark humor and whimsy.
The reason I’d call it ‘meh’ is probably the same reason I got through it at all. It seemed very much like standard ‘processing a breakup’ fic. The kind of thing you write and you think it’s about something else entirely and then in five years you come back to it and it was CLEARLY you working through your feelings about a breakup unconsciously. And there were real feelings there - which is why I stuck with it. Most of Neil’s writing is too cerebral for me - without the weight and heat of heart. But that’s also why it was just ‘meh’. It was the unexamined heart - a writer is never firing on all cylinders when their head and their heart are working at cross-purposes. It had that feel of stop and start, explosion and silence, that you feel when first learning to drive stick - the unpleasant impact of lack of control or finesse…everything is too raw.
It felt like someone writing about the death of an unconventional relationship. I didn’t mind the ending. There was truth and nuance there, however bitter. Though I’m sick to death of seeing queer love revealed and rejected in the same scene, in ambiguous terms that make it worthy only of hell and damnation, a violating sin revealed by necessity and pushed on an unwitting protagonist. That wasn’t necessary. It was wrong; a sadness.
I will say that it makes my enduring wish for Michael Sheen to record an audiobook of Dylan Thomas’s poetry rather intense. Because his performance was frankly mesmerizing. It was like live theater, when there are moments when you can feel the whole audience holding their breath. When it feels like the actor is holding the audience in their hands, because everyone is so focused and attuned to their voice, their expressions - to the moment. Just really, really amazing.
Einstein has a quote I love “You wouldn’t think it genius if you knew how much work went into it”. And I can’t help but wonder if he was perfectly cast for the role - charming, sweet-hearted chaos agent of a man that he is. Or if he simply is a master of his craft and just put in a tremendous amount of work. I tend to suspect a bit of both.
He just OWNED this role - gave it life and complexity.
David Tennant is a wonderful actor generally, but I’ve seen him do much better work. He seemed lost inside the role - disappearing into the costume and not quite hitting the emotional beats. Like a good singer on a bad night who’s just not quite hitting his notes the way he can. Still good, even amazing, but not the crowd stopper he can be. The one exception being his turn as Crowley as an angel at the beginning. That was just lovely.
Though if you were going to get lost inside a costume- WHAT a costume. Most of what I love about Crowley is his style. His ‘40s suits are sharp enough to cut.
So - nothing really to complain about - but I really hope they don’t leave it here, as it’s quite depressing if left as is.

I have just watched the first episode of AHS: NYC. Just the first, the second will come after.
I... I am left confused. I can’t say I dislike this episode. I can’t say I like it either. And it is not a “meh” episode. It is just... I am confused.
I am probably confused because it doesn’t... “feel” like AHS. Previously all AHS seasons, good or bad, brought a specific something. I don’t know a sort of convoluted weirdness, an excentric creepiness, an artisy stylish morbidity, a clear feel of a specific setting or genre to touch upon. I mean, this first episode clearly has this setting/subgenre in mind - I am back to movies like Se7en, and other grim noir-thriller, and these dark stuff about urban subcultures and the hidden vices of metropolitan cities...
But I don’t know... it feels too calm, too mature, too... “simple” to feel like AHS. It feels like a piece of a movie, not the pilot of a TV show, and beyond some AHS faces and an omnipresence of gay sex (which became the “modern AHS” main characteristic), it... I couldn’t have told it is AHS. They didn’t even put an opening sequence, adding to the “not AHS” feel. I guess the other shows of Murphy bled into this one?
It does feel like... not “adult” but a... “dad” show, mixing a sort of calm and deep maturity (bordering on the boringness) with a clumsiness that is not so much cringy as just making things “okay” and “average”. An “okay” episode.
I did note some highlights...
# During the first scene between the police officer and his journalist boyfriend, I realized their talk was a literal compilation of several things we had seen before across various seasons of AHS. It was all already seen, already done, and they were reusing it again. And it felt... “unsubtle” is not the correct word, but it felt heavy-handed. I remembered the scene from AHS Asylume where Lana and her girlfriend had a talk at night in their home - and I couldn’t help compare these two, and the difference was so jarring in terms of... of realization and execution.
# I honestly do not know much about early 80s New-York, but... is it me or does it feel like this show has some anachronisms in term of language and behavior? I can’t tell for sure if there are, but I get this feeling that somehow the first half of the episode was... “too modern” and too up-to-date to feel like it was the 80s. It is not a feeling I had for example when looking at Asylum, but here I can’t help but ask myself “Did they used that word back then? Did this slang exist? Would they have openly referred to this like that?” It is not even the full eighties, it is 1981, so even older...
# On the topic of anachronism - and introduction the “clumsiness” part: just listen at the way the policeman explains what a “leather man” is to the young man. “A leather man. Part of the sub-culture of blablabla”. This is the way the word would be explained today, in the late 2010s and the 2020s. A textbook definition people can easily ingest. But in the 80s - in the context of a police officer talking about a subculture that was not mainstream media or public knowledge - to have him just do this brief clinical definition-lesson feels so artificial, and it feels like poor writing.
# On the topic of poor writing, this episode was somehow clumsy in the way they handled things. But it is the clumsiness you have for example in “traditional horror movies”. Not a clumsiness that makes things openly bad, but a clumsiness that breaks a bit the system of belief. The way things are orchestrated, the way dialogue flows and scenes are set - mostly in the first half of the episode, the second half does much better - it all feels very artificial and clumsy. Take the scene of the scientists talking to (I guess the mayor?) about the infection in deers. They do so... IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE ON A BEACH OVER A DEER CARCASS. Like... did you specifically asked this figure of authority to come to a remote island to show him (all by himself, as there’s just three people) an animal corpse because you couldn’t have had the infection talk anywhere else? And all the while the scientist girl is taking samples - but without any real equipment, without any protection, and all by herself and... I mean the scene does look cool, but when you put the slightest logic it makes no sense whatsoever. That’s the type of “clumsy” I speak about.
# Hopefully the second half of the episode is better. The following scenes between the police officer and his journalist boyfriend feel better, I love the new role of Isaac Powell  - and of course Quinto just adds good things too ; and I won’t lie, they actually managed to make Big Daddy feel like a real threat and presence. He barely appears, he doesn’t do anything, he doesn’t say anything, and yet I do get the fear of him and he feels already like an AHS bogeyman. They managed to work a subtle and quiet threat, a looming menace at the distance - and kudos!  The scene with the deers works too in a horrible way. Plus, with the second half of the episode, they truly managed to craft an ambiance. The sweaty and misty ambiance of the bathhouses, the quiet ciaroscuro of lonely bars, the studios of doubtful arts at night... It all works to create this “ambiance” of the “secret gay places of night-time NYC”, but with a doubt of darkness and emptiness to it.
Anyway, on to the second episode!

i'm on what's left of "skam" twitter and it is an incredibly different experience to druck tumblr. the druck fans of tumblr have a long history of deep takes, two of which I feel contradict themselves. The protection of s6 and the outrage about Ava's arc. Why doesn't tumblr know s6 was part of the problem? S6 even assisted in making her boy crazy. not knowing any writers is a blessing bc I have no urge to side step the truth for them. S6's good intentions aside, they did help pull her under
I think the bad writing began in s6. We had had ok seasons before but I think with Nora the evak parallels we loved in s5 the rest of the seasons the constant parallels to the OG seasons got exhausting. Like your a new gen go do something entirely new. Fatou season had so much promise but it got so bogged down by the love story. We just spent to much time on it and very little time on fatou's personal problems. Her learning issues, her lack of connection to her parents heritage, her lack of clearly parsing out why she thinks she lost her job. Like the issues were there but we never touched them we instead got another clip of fatou and kieu My being romantic which is fine but like for Matteo's season he didnt stop being depressed because of David he still was but he had to overcome his feelings and speak to his mom and hans and the boys. I actually didnt mind Ava's sorta of using boys to distract herself because young women do that. I didnt like s6 because Ava's plot should have been Fatou's. That way the writers wouldn't have lost the audience with Ava and it also would have forced the audience to come to terms that even sweet Fatou was at her wits end with Mailin. We only got one scene where Fatou actually said something and she didnt even go into much detail on why Mailin was annoying her and I just wish in general with Fatou we understood how she parses out her experiences a bit more because thats what was missing in her season. Isi season was just plain bad and once again we spent so much time on the love story and the non-love story. It was a huge waste of time. IDK this gen of Druck aside from Nora's amazing season has been very meh! Also the direction was very cringe last season really disliked it.

Excited for any superhero projects?
Hi Anon! I am, yes. Off the top of my head, in terms of things coming out in the future, I’m very much looking forward to the Thunderbolts movie. And you have good timing because I was just thinking about the Thunderbolts movie yesterday. What If? season 2 looks like it could be very fun, and I’m tentatively looking forward to Avengers 5 and 6. Depending on if they treat the characters well of course- I can’t take another mess like Endgame. Will fully admit that if they let me see Natasha, Wanda (main Wanda, none of this rumored multiverse nonsense), Pietro (ditto), Tony, Steve (an actual in-character version please), and/or Loki again, bring Jane back as a Valkyrie, or write Thor well I might be willing to forgive a lot though.
I’m also pretty excited for Armor Wars since I love Rhodey, though admittedly that excitement took a bit of a hit when I saw the relevant Secret Invasion spoilers. Blade as a character isn’t really my jam, but I am looking forward to seeing Dane Whitman again in that movie, especially as Black Knight, so I’m gonna list that too. And I’m very curious about the Agatha tv show rumors I’ve heard and if we might be getting Billy, potentially with Teddy, and if Wanda might be back.
…Nearly forgot Cap 4! Looking forward to that, with a few caveats. Those caveats being I need them to not villainize Sharon and take back the Power Broker thing, and I… truly have no idea how to feel about Sabra, given current events. I was excited for her inclusion, if dreading the discourse, now I don’t know how to feel about it because the likelihood of her inclusion being tone-deaf is even higher, and said discourse is going to be 100 times worse.
I also still have to watch the Loki finale episode and The Marvels. Very much looking forward to The Marvels; I have mixed feelings on the Loki finale since I’ve gotten a little spoiled for it, but I want to see how it ends just the same.
I’m super behind on Marvel movies, I kind of lost steam after Multiverse of Madness and haven’t seen the last 4 or 5 movies. Of those, I’m most looking forward to watching Wakanda Forever. (That would’ve been Love and Thunder because I adore both Jane and Thor but uh, 😬 I’ve heard about it and I had no faith in Taika Waititi to begin with, so…) After WF I think I’m most looking forward to watching GOTG 3 even though I’m fully aware I’m probably gonna cry my eyes out. Feeling a bit meh on Quantumania sadly, despite loving Cassie Lang in comics, based on what friends who’ve seen it have said, and fully expecting to have to grin and bear it through Love and Thunder.
In terms of unconfirmed projects, I need Eternals 2 yesterday. Also a Shang-Chi sequel and a second season of Moon Knight. The rumored Vision Quest show could be very good or alternately very bad, but I love Vision and he deserves a starring role, so I’m crossing my fingers it happens and isn’t just a retread of Tom King’s Vision because that comic was incredibly depressing. (Adore Viv Vision though, and would love a proper robotic Sparky the dog!) I also saw a rumor a bit ago that we might get a Clea backstory show, which I would be incredibly down for since comics Clea is one of my favorite underused characters, and has a really coolbackstory with a lot of potential for an interesting story. And I love the Young Avengers, so if we get to see them as an official team in the future I’ll be hyped for that.
For non-MCU things, I’m vaguely looking forward to Deadpool 3 despite not being a mutants/X-Men enthusiast because a. Deadpool is just fun, b. the Taylor Swift Dazzler rumors. For DC, The Superman: Legacy casting has me really really excited. I love Superman and it seems like we might actually get a good take on him this time! In terms of things farther down the DC pipeline, I’m a big Supergirl fan so naturally I’m hyped for the planned Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, despite being halfway through that comic and still unsure if I like or not. And I love Damian Wayne so cautiously excited for the rumored Batman movie featuring Bruce and Dami.

My 2022 year in review
so now that another year has come to pass, I feel I should make another full year review. I know this was a pretty bad year in the world as a whole, but for me personally, it was kind of meh. It was not that great, but it was not terrible either, it was filled with a lot of ups and down. I learned a lot of new things and skills, like how to storyboard and make an attempt at my first storyboard. I launched my own patreon this year. I know that might not be a big deal to some people, but for years I thought patreon would be waste of time for me because I was not that confident in my work to make people pay for it. At first my patreon did really well, but things didn’t really go as planned and interest in my patreon kind of died later in the year. No really sure I want to continue with it or not. Also I kind of started writing my story I hope to be published as a book someday, an actual original story and not just fanfiction. My summer was really boring again because I didn’t go on a summer vacation again this year, me and my parents couldn’t afford one.
My holiday season was just okay, I didn’t get to do everything I wanted to do, but I did more then I did last year. I was actually able to enjoy the autumn colors this year by going to a park, but didn’t really do anything for halloween. I got to see some old friends who I had not seen in a year in december and I had a pretty good christmas. Even though I some good moments over the holidays, there were also some bad moments too where my depression set in and I just felt empty and lonely. Another bad thing for me this year that my dog’s health as steadily gotten worse over the year. He had a bad skin infection and a tumor found underneath in back legs earlier in the year, the skin infection was treatable and has gone away. But the tumor, it’s not cancerous, but still he has to deal with it for the rest of his life. My dog as arthritis in his back legs that has made it very hard to him to walk. it was especially bad over christmas he could barely stand up at all and I thought I was going to lose him, but he is doing a bit better now with the meds we have given him. So overall, all I just stay about this past year is that I survived it and I guess that is all that really counts.
The things I want to do in the new year I don’t want to call resolutions or goals, but just plans for things that may or may not happen. I want to focus more on my writing and write more of my original story. In terms of artwork, draw more furry and werewolf art to find more of an audience, this past year my artwork was kind of all over the place and I didn’t get to create as much art as a usually do. Continuing to learn more about storyboarding, I feel like I have just dipped my toes in learning it over the past year. So I want to fully dive into it so hopefully I can get a better job with it. Also learn to give myself more breaks, this year often it just felt like constant going and going which eventually left me a little burnt out. I must learn that is okay to not be totally productive all the time. And that is pretty much it for my plans. Here is hoping next year will be a much better year for me.

Episode 13: Beyond the Sea
Ohhhh BOYYY do I love when shows like this really turn the tables. This kept us on our feet, switched around the dynamic between Mulder and Scully, and very deeply turned this show into something very personal. Did it feel a bit gimmicky? Maybe. I don’t know.
I loved Scully’s desperation, the way she is so absolutely believing what’s happening but not wanting to, and how this time it’s Mulder who has to be convinced. It gives a bit of a glimpse, too, to what it could have been like if their roles were permanently reversed.
(Potential spoilers below)
Okay. I do think meh, it’s a bit convenient to show Scully’s parents and then immediately kill off her dad. Very plot-device-y. But I think it’s okay, for this show, which it’s also in it’s very first season and really needs to pull out all the stops. The way the song is used throughout the episode is absolutely eerie-- and this is NOT a song I normally think of as eerie. I actually felt sad for Scully, saw her pain and anguish and confusion and the way she so much wanted to believe, possibly for the first time so far in this show ever.
And we JUST met her dad!!!
That could be a testament to GIllian Anderson’s acting, the writing, or just that I’m already very invested in the show and the characters, and the fact that Scully thus far has not had very emotional reactions to much of anything yet (Ice is still my favorite episode in terms of the emotional aspect and plot), and this shows a vulnerability we haven’t really seen yet.
I liked this, for that alone.
And man, is that guy creepy. I’d hate for that to be the guy who can speak to my dead loved ones. Talk about a messenger.

goodbye, lucifer (but not really!)
I cannot BELIEVE that I just watched the last episode of my favourite show.
I usually cram everything I have to in tags under gifsets I reblog, but for this final season I'll go through the pain of actually writing shit down. I'll try to keep it short, and I'll try not to ramble. (Edit: Did not accomplish that.)
what i loved
SCREAMS
God, soooooooo much!!
Deckerstar baby
Okay, so when Rory showed up in the trailer I was like "Ugh, another annoying angel? Meh." FORGIVE ME, my sweet murder child! Of all the things I thought they might do, a Deckerstar baby was DEAD LAST on my list. And a daughter no less, I just... When she says she's Lucifer's daughter, I was like *SCREAMS*, but when we learn she's Lucifer AND Chloe's daughter, I completely lost it. My boyfriend's on a trip with his friends this week and I'm sooo grateful for that, I made the weirdest, loudest, ugliest noises while watching this season, I ran around our apartment like a maniac, I squealed and laughed and cried and just generally lost my mind. But when she says that?? Oh my God. Also the way Lucifer reacted when Chloe shows him the pregnancy test? Straight outta fanfic.
Lucifer being a father
Oh my God?? I've always said he'd be the BEST father, and actually seeing it on screen... I love the parallel of him being ridiculously over the top with Rory at first, just like God and Lucifer in S5. The way he looks at her when he sees her playing the guitar? Their duet?? Instantly one of my favourite scenes. Them driving in the Corvette, their last day together, how he keeps her from killing Le Mec? Just murder me.
Established Deckerstar
All the hugs and kisses?? The declarations of love, the besotted looks, the absolute power couple we got? Their look from Maze and Eve's wedding, OH MY GOD???? Just, these two are so pretty and we got SO MUCH. Also, their scenes with Rory?? I just love them so much...
(More under the cut!)
Ella's storyline
I wanted a reveal for her so badly, and the way it turned out was brilliant! I loved her figuring it out for herself and calling everyone out lmao. I especially loved poor Carol returning to that room full of shocked people. They had some GREAT punchlines and gags this season, absolutely hilarious! I also love Lucifer's parting gift for her and that she finally found a good one with Carol.
Hugs, so many hugs!
That's it, that's the paragraph.
The Police storyline
As a white person who has literally never once had a problem with the police, I know this is not my place to say, but I think they did a good job? Not giving into the "a few bad apples" excuse but acknowledging that the whole system needs to change? I also really enjoyed the scenes with Amenadiel and Officer Harris, showing what policework could and should look like.
Maze and Eve's happily ever after
I'm so glad auntie Maze and auntie Eve got their happy ending! And that wedding was a bomb. Also, "You're my hell!", lmao.
Dan's ascend to heaven
First of, great to know his only torture was Belios' lack of table tennis skills. Secondly, how very fitting for the show that they didn't hand Dan his happy ending easily, that he fought and won it for himself. Him as a ghost and him as Le Mec was equally funny, and his talk with Trixie was just perfect, literally tears you guys.
Amenadiel becoming God
I mean, dude's perfect for the job! From the loyal, distant, obeying servant to a God who wants to work as a team with his siblings, who wants the Celestials to experience the human world, who hates injustice and loves fiercely? In this universe, I couldn't imagine anyone better suited to be God.
Nobody misses the case of the week
At least I don't! God, I wish they'd tried this out sooner.
The bittersweet ending
Let's preface this by saying I HATE bittersweet endings. Give me a happily ever after or else. And yet, and yet!! I think the ending they settled on is perfect. Would I have loved it if Lucifer had a life on earth with Chloe, Trixie and Rory? God, yes. Do I get emotional over him being alone in hell, again? Goddd, yes. But still. I so love that he found his calling in the end, that they reunited, and that he actually makes good on his promise from S5 to change the system. Also, I don't care if this is canon or fanon for now, but they totally spend time in heaven with Rory and visit earth whenever they like. And this would have been my ideal ending - them being free to go where they like, and I don't see why they shoudn't. It's definitely more satisfying than just traipsing off to heaven indefinitely, so I really, really loved that.
what i didn't (do feel free to skip this!)
Lucifer missing out on Chloe's life on earth and being alone in hell again. Chloe being left again.
Time travel shenanigans. I just finished Dark and that was enough of a mindfuck. Do not want to think about loops for this show, thank you very much.
Chloe felt a little too housewifey in the first episodes, but it thankfully didn't stay that way for long.
Lucifer and Chloe talking about keeping secrets for a whole episode, and then NOBODY TALKING ABOUT URIEL AND CANDY. I mean, ahhhhhhh! If you don't want to talk about it, then don't, but don't remind people of it constantly and then NOT discuss it. It drives me mad, honestly, how many times they referenced these storylines only to completely ignore them when there were opportunities to resolve them. Ahhh. That's what fic is for, I guess.
Adam. Like, why? Bye, dude.
what i'll keep with me
When someone I'd just met at my boyfriend's cousin's wedding in 2019 recommended this "funny, little show" to me that intrigued them because they were interested in finding their faith, I really didn't think I'd write all this three years later.
Lucifer is my third fandom, and it won't be my last, but it sure as hell - ha - will stay with me. I resonate so deeply with Lucifer as a character because he fights with the idea of God, fights with this concept of a benevolent father that everyone seems to believe in but never fit his experience. I come from a Christian family and studied theology, but somewhere along the lines I had to come to terms with the fact that the faith I had as a child and teenager didn't fit me anymore. I want to believe again, and maybe someday I will, but right now I don't know that. So Lucifer's journey with that meant a lot to me. I'd like to find what Ella did, I guess.
Although I never really thought Lucifer needed redemption, I loved the whole "anybody can be redeemed" message as well. And hell reform! Hell is such a weird, awful construct - speaking as the theology expert - bringing a bit of purgatory in in this universe is really fucking cool.
Also, I binged Lucifer when I was alone in hospital late at night. That experience alone I'll never forget.
So, I guess - thank you!! Thank you to the cast and crew, to the fans who campaigned for season four, to Ildy and Joe, to the writers and the directors and the people who brought lunch: Thank you so much for this incredible show. I'm not ready to say goodbye, not by a long shot, and I hope this fandom feels the same.
Yabba dabba do me, I love my stupid little show!!!
