We had the rescheduled second gen cousin present swap Saturday evening, it was fab. Some family came in from Texas, there was ridiculousness amongst the kids all hopped up on sugar and being buckwild - an unmitigated success 🤘
My mom’s dog passed, it was sad, and emotional. Bonding though? My bro came up and we made it down, and we took care of the burial in 20 degree weather, got dad stocked up with food, et al. It was peaceful, a passing of the guard.
We made it home before the forecasted snow, and we’ve had 6-8 inches here in Nashville. While I know that is chump change for many of you, it’s been brilliant here. It’s less than 10 here right now and slated to be below freezing at night with high less than 20 until Thursday. Schools are closed. I had taken off for a transferred MLK holiday. We are holed up.
Took the kids out last night when we had a dusting. We swang in the swing-set. Looked over the river. Played with the dogs. Looked up at the sliver moon. Immersed.
We stayed up way late, slept in this morning. It snowed all night and until 3-4 pm today. We went out this morning in the yard and made snow angels. Jumped on the trampoline.
This afternoon we went back out and a quarter mile from our house is a playground and hill attached to a local church. All the neighborhood kids were sledding and it was Such a fun gem. Almost like this hidden, golden, perfect moment. All day was like that.
Tonight we went back out. All the sane parents were home and snuggled up watching movies. Us? We loaded up those kids and went back to the hill. We sled and rolled down the hill for almost 2 hours - it was completely deserted and ours for the taking.
We’ve plenty of groceries for yummy meals. Coffee. Heat. Heart. It’s been a few days of core memories if that rings true to anyone? This, today, with our kids, was all about reliving and making sure we brought them this unfettered joy. Of a snow day.
We’ve connected and unplugged and it has been perfection. Absolute perfection.

Meanwhile, yes I have listened to This Life from start to finish while also pay attention to the lyrics.
For the singles, I love the acoustic version of Windows more than the album version but maybe it's because I'm dying for another Abbey Road Session or at least its look alike. Brand New Suns is my most favorite. This Life, yeah so so I mean I kinda like it but not really but usually this would grow on me after they sing this more on live. It starts to grow on me after they performed this in Radio 2 In Concert.
For non singles (so far), my favorite is Where We Are. This song is very Beautiful World-ish. I also love the theme of this song is basically a clapback to Never Forget with the "we've come so far".
March of the Hopeful opening surprised me too much. What is this? This is Take That? And then Howard starts to sing. Oh yes, this is Take That. A bit disappointed that the rest of the song is not as spectacular as its intro.
The rest of the songs especially Keep Your Head Up scream the vibe of those deep cut pop/rock/country band in the US whose music is probably US equal to post reunion TT as in they are actually good but underrated that it's criminal. And not surprising because the whole album is produced by those producers who made those deep cut stuffs. However, I agree with the press that these songs outside what I mention is quite underwhelming. But then again, I don't like many songs from Beautiful World. So far Take That album that I enjoy completely from start to finish are Progress and Wonderland, yea not even The Circus.
I disagree with them saying Take That has got no left to sing about. No they actually still can. It just that I feel like this is not their full potential. Like they could have explore more but seems to holding themselves back.

Lately I have been rewatching This Life for the first time since it originally aired, way back when - it was a housemates drama about five young professionals sharing a house in London and only ran for two seasons, 1996 and 1997, but was seen as groundbreaking at the time - it is very dated now, in the same way that all 90s TV is very dated now, but I am halfway through the first season and can't stop thinking about how this show could have done numbers if it had aired in the Tumblr age
Warren in particular. Tumblr would have loved Warren. Grumpy sarcastic gay, out to everyone except his family, has lots of issues and does therapy about it, riddled with doubt, keeps pushing himself outside his comfort zone anyway. He's kind to everyone even, perhaps especially, when they aren't kind to him - and that isn't naivety, it is a very active and deliberate choice that he makes. He tries so very hard. Tumblr would love him.
Also it has Andrew Lincoln and Jack Davenport in it before they were famous, so. Tumblr would hate Davenport's character and be so conflicted about it! Wait, no. Davenport's character, Miles, has a few homophobic outburts at Warren and is then sorry about it afterward, so Tumblr would probably declare him in the closet and ship them together, in fact!
I only have vague memories of how the two seasons (and one-off 10 year later reunion episode) played out, so looking forward to the rest of my rewatch!

Just finished listening to This Life and I have to say: it's their best since Jason's departure, but no surprises, I already predicted it when they released Windows.
I feel like this album was more "Mark" and I really really loved it. We truly have been blessed this year.
Highlights imho:
Windows - Ofc, as I said, their best single since Progress. Listening to this song while walking on the streets and feeling the wind blowing and messing your hair hits different, trust me.
Brand New Sun - my anthem, I loved this song since day one.
The Champion - yk I'm a fan of almost everything Mark does, so no surprises this song would be here. Amazing as I expected.
Mind Full of Madness - idk, the intro kinda reminded me of Stevie Nicks' Edge of Seventeen. Great song, tho. I enjoyed a lot
Time and Time Again - a very Mark song. If it was Gary or Howard singing lead wouldn't be the same, the ✨Mark vibes✨are unmatchable
One More Word - This song is so so so beautiful, omg, I'm in love
The other songs are also good (although I can already say This Life is my least favorite), but these caught my attention in this first listen. Everything can change the following days.
