thing about rose, for me, is that she wasn't there first -- this in a "she was first in nu!who in the sense that this was the first person to travel with nine, and the first person since the timewar, and the last person that nine was with, to the point that ten was born out of that experience/modelled on her."
and in that framing, I am a big fan of her haunting of the narrative, because it start outs with her placing herself inside the doctor's ribcage and rebooting their ability to want to feel things, but unfortunately rose is still a human, like every human the doctor travelled with before, it's just that the doctor forgot how to steel themself against that inevitability because of the circumstances around meeting rose
this is The thing that I find tragic about martha, because I think she could have been that person, if she'd been the first person post-timewar to travel with the doctor, but because she's coming in during bleeding-heart times, she's got to deal with triage instead. and yes, there are wonders, and yes, there are good times, but for a lot of it, it's shrapnel, and I think if it hadn't been, she would have had a very different attitude towards *waves hands* space and time travel and aliens and the universe (one where she wouldn't be the person trusted with something like the osterhagen key)
and donna had a sense of that Space the doctor was in post-rose (she canonically stopped the doctor from dying in runaway bride) and stepped away from it, and didn't get back to the doctor until some of that hole-in-chest had been bandaged up, which martha did a great job of, but didn't get to really benefit from, and I think that's the sad thing about martha jones, is that she absolutely got a taste of the beauty and the splendor, but never without all the violence and heave weight that was put onto her
which, again, she seems to have been very aware of, considering she joined UNIT and Torchwood. her eyes were barely ever rose tinted (no pun here) during her whole journey in the story. martha really is in my opinion the most tragic companion (that I've met so far, I know Adric straight up dies, but maybe he had some fun times before that?), because yes, donna loses her memories and rose is in a parallel universe, but that's more tragic for the doctor -- they've both built lives
in donna's case there's probably a lot of imperfection in that life, but clearly a lot of joy as well, with her and her husband and her kid and her mum, and I'm sure she'd have preferred to be the donna who saw the universe and was splendid, but martha never gets to forget, and has to continue her life one step out of sync of everything she could have been
which, maybe her life is pretty flipping fantastic, but we really don't know, which is the biggest thing I side-eye about the first nu!who era. that whole weird ending with the sontaran and mickey is like... anti-character work, it answers nothing and it makes very little sense
all I know about her at the end is that she more than anyone saw the doctor's life and became a soldier (still a doctor as well, but...) because that was the work she saw needed doing, and she's the kind of person who does what needs doing. but is she... okay? youknow?
but going back to the original point, is that framing martha through the lens of rose is all well and good in the sense that rose is the reason the doctor is at that emotional point when he meets martha -- although donna absolutely had a very big hand in that as well -- but once we've established that, martha's arc is martha's arc, and it's dull to me to frame it as the "rebound" arc or even particularly about alloromanticism (including -- and this is why i get why people do it in fandom -- some shit said by rtd, which is just less interesting than what I get out of it, so shhhh)
she's got so much going on, and her relationship with the doctor changes the trajectory of her life, and it's in many ways a more interesting and far less straightforward trajectory of bad-to-better that many companions get -- it's a wonderfully complicated narrative that (and again, I get that some of this comes from within deliberate framings of the text, even though I think it's more than open enough to do more with, death of the author and all that -- but certainly not all of this is text either, some of it is ignoring what is actually there) is done a disservice by not going through the real messed up fascinating extraordinary shit that's going on during her era + arc in s4
but also... is she ok? I want to know. it's one of my top three burning questions, since we're getting a bit of best-ofs of the noughties DW era, some of your crimes can be righted by a simple bit of martha mr davies

loki series paralleling end of the first thor movie is actually very insane and real to me
both ending with thor/loki looking over their loved one (thor asking heimdall about how jane is vs loki actually watching / listening (?) for mobius)
and is also proof that this is just the beginning of loki’s story, not the end.
it is the end of the loki we were first introduced to but this is a new and improved loki.
idk if this makes sense but it does to me and also confirms lokius endgame <3
(the amount of parallels between thor/jane and loki/mobius is actually insane and one day i need someone to create a whole post dedicated to them)

So @madablues said Obito only wears the Uchiha crest out of habit and he doesn't rlly feel any attachement to the clan anymore and it made me realized that I wrote Hashirama in a similar way - the disconnect with his clan started very young, and he's far less attached to it than Touka, Tobirama or even Butsuma are in But in this twilight, our choices seal our fate. He's very fascinated by the Uchiha clan (in an almost fetishistic sense even, he idolizes them far more than he should), and dismisses his own clan's traditions (including their millenia old bond with the Uzumaki, which he treats as trivial in comparison to his alliance with the Uchiha clan). His building of Konoha and dismissal of Uzushio lay the foundations to what will become decades of terror against the Senju clan and the loss of over half of its numbers (kind of like how Obito massacred the Uchiha, although in this case Hashirama did not kill them nor wish them harm - those were unexpected consequences of his well-intentioned actions).
The crest on his armour is rlly only there because he never bothered to buy another armour. Hashirama doesn't feel like a Senju, he feels like a Hokage, even before Madara agreed to his dream. He always worked towards the goal of being someone other than the Senju leader, because he (correctly) views the obsession with one's clan as part of the brainwashing that helps the war keep going. Obito, on the other hand, doesn't feel like an Uchiha because he is not secure in his identity and doesn't care about his family (Hashirama does care about his own).
But in the end both of their tunnel vision commitment to their goals lead (directly or indirectly) to the destruction of their respective clans. I also think it's interesting how both their dreams are corrupted at the end and cause them to try to kill their best friends (successfully in Hashirama's case) and abandon the core values they held as kids.

Some thoughts on Wille looking at photos of Simon and Simon looking at photos of Wille:
The first time we see Wille looking at photos of Simon it’s because he is Insta-stalking like the teen with a crush he is - these are all photos he has posted for public consumption, because they don’t truly have a private relationship yet.
The second time we see Wille looking at a photo of Simon its because Felice is showing him a screenshot of The Video to show him the dead pixels. This photo - this moment was not for public consumption, and it was a profound violation that it was released. Further, Wille and Simon have broken up at this point, what permission Wille might have had to view Simon in such a private state has been revoked. So Wille flinches away from the sight.
The third time we see Wille looking at photos of Simon it is the sad little collection of 6 selfies on his phone. These photos are Wille’s a collection of private photos, of their private moments that are his to keep, and also aren’t a violation of Simon’s personal privacy.
It’s this journey from public to private, that really tells the story of moments when Wille and Simon are apart.
It’s also significant to compare this to the photos and images that Simon has of Wille which are all photos for public consumption, because Wille is for public consumption.
First the GIF of the fight that gives Simon a not wholly accurate impression of Wille - Simon is in line with the public seeing Wille as a brat.
Second, Wille on Simon’s TV screen attending his brother’s funeral - by this point Simon is aligned with the public mourning with the royal family - but he also has his own private relationship with Wille, and so his grief for Wille is unique.
Third, Wille on a magazine cover post-video scandal, this time Simon’s personal relationship with Wille is completely disconnected from the Public’s response. The Public is greedily lapping up this sex scandal, Simon is desperately trying to connect with Wille through the turmoil of the tape, and so Simon hides Wille’s (and his own) face on the magazine from the public and his family and strokes the little picture of Wille’s face when he is on his own.
This is also journey from a public perception to a private connection.
For both the first image is part of social media, the way that they are forming initial impressions of each other, the second is a gross public intrusion into private moments and the third is a photo that they look at privately, and yearningly.
The big difference is that all the photos of Wille are totally public, and all the photos of Simon are (or at least should have been) totally private. It’s about the difference between them as Public person v. Private Citizen.
In Season 3 I would love for this to be reversed - for Simon and Wille to have gotten to a point of privacy and intimacy that we see Simon looking at his own private photos of Wille, and for Wille’s status and speech to have put Simon in such a position of Publicity that Wille has the looking at your lover through the eyes of the Public moment.
But yeah ... this is very long and rambly soo
TLDR: Wille is public, Simon is private - how they are presented in the show through photos tells us this, and tells a story of their relationship to one another going from public distance, to private intimacy (with a pitstop at a violation of privacy) - in season three I think it would be interesting for us to see Wille as a private person through Simon’s eyes, and Simon as a public person through Wille’s eyes

I have some thoughts regarding chapter 120 so spoilers yea

Ok so. One thing that bothers me a lot is the treatment that the vampires got (if any lmao). Ferid and Crowley just straight up disappeared, like where are they??? Did Kagami forget about them or smth? And Krul. Poor girl is rightfully mad about Yuu devouring Ashera but immedeatly gets shut down thanks to Shinoa's only character trait at this point and isn't mentioned again. Not to mention Rigr and his squad are still presumably driving to who knows where.
Also where or more accurately when did Yuu learn magic and spells??? He certainly didn't know the basics when they were getting Mika back. And these two events happened like 5 hours at max apart from eachother??
Overall, an upgrade from last chapter but,,,, what the fuck

Some people are so weird if you’re not a huge dog person. Now, I don’t hate dogs. But I don’t universally love all dogs like I do with cats? I’m just uncomfortable with a lot of typical dog behavior, like getting really up in your personal space, being really needy, following you around constantly, how high maintenance they are, etc. With mammalian pets, I prefer the more lowkey affection and companionship that cats generally have
There are definitely dogs I have liked a lot! I loved my great-grandma’s dog when I was a kid and would say that dog was legitimately my friend. There have been others great ones I’ve met too. But yeah, certain dogs and their behavior make me anxious and stress me out. And the fact that people in my area will sometimes just let their dogs run around, and the dogs will come running barking at you. That’s the owner’s fault, not the dog’s, but it’s still scary. Feral and outdoor cats are an issue, but in terms of human safety, they don’t pose as much of a threat
I just. I get annoyed that so many people think you’re a MONSTER if you’re not gaga over all dogs and are off put by their in your face tendencies 😭 Like, nah, man. I just have preferences and dogs sometimes go against those

ok so it turns out i’m too fuckin adhd to pick one my favorite piece at any given moment is the one i’m working, and for this moment, that is this piece, based on an WIP section from @bomberqueen17 ‘s Peace-Tied series
Tumblr media
in which iorveth reminisces about his trophies and the trouble they have caused him
(yes i sketch in hot pink, no there are no stages between this one and a finished piece)
i like the process almost more than the finished piece in terms of how it feels to work on it (satisfying) and see it come together under my fingertips, it’s like magic ✨ my favorite thing about comics is dialing in on emotions and interactions, and working off B’s writing is so great because the emotions are always complicated and intricate and laced with depth of feeling and history, and also endless snark and unexpected sweetness
this might not be how this meme is supposed to work but this is the answer i have to give lololol

i haven't actually watched sab s2 yet but from what i've seen i'm going to have very complicated emotions about how they're playing around with crows timeline and character arcs. yes it is too early for some of those scenes and stories to have the full emotional impact and payoff they do in the books HOWEVER this cast literally just walked off the pages of the book and i do have an emotional connection to them from having read to books so i am so psyched to see some of those scenes on my actual television screen because i know what those scenes mean and i get to assign the meaning to them not the writers

having watched the third episode of lockwood and co, i’m not quite as thrilled about it. i don’t really like how they fit the whole plot of the screaming staircase into just three episodes. Honestly, i don’t really like in general super long episodes. but here especially, they cut a lot of the more mundane things, of lucy, lockwood, & george building their friendship and showing more of their characters. They also cut a few of the less important cases, like lucy’s first with lockwood, with the motorcyclist. and while those kinds of moments weren’t super important to the plot, it helped to get a feel for both the world(not every case is dramatic and dangerous, this is a normal job) and the characters(lockwood’s growing respect for lucy, her Talent).
And i think this could come back to bite the writers when they introduce Holly, because lockwood being so casual with her so quickly was in contrast to him being formal with lucy for longer. if we don’t see those weeks with that awkwardness and formality, there won’t be that contrast.

Fall in love with paint and progress. Just had the time to read it. Levi named his exhibition using a name that relates to his and Hange's childhood characters means that he never forget Hange even though they kinda grew apart since they follow their own journey. It's so beautiful to think about it. His love for Hange is never dim even though they are not together at that time and live far from each other. I think the way you portrayed Levi is slightly different from the og Levi. He's a little calmer (?) compare to his og character. But of course it suits him, since.. well... they didn't live in titan world anymore and I love it. Even though he's a little different but it suits him and still him. Not entirely a new person since he's also cranky in this au 😂 one more part that I love is when Erwin looked in a distance and started to give a speech, that's so so so Erwin 😂 there are a lot more actually but I don't want to burden you to read a long a$$ paragraph from me 💀 so in short, yeah everything is perfect in that story <3 damn it's like writing an essay in a school when using 'in short' LMAO
Hii 🌷
Firstly, getting comments and essay-long feedback isn't burdening me. I love hearing what people think, and what exactly they enjoyed!! Sometimes this whole fanfic malarky can be taking a shot in the dark where you're writing what you like and you don't know how a fic will be received, so if you like something in a fic, no matter how big or small, then let the author know!!! Thanks for taking the time to send this, I really appreciate it! 🥰
I love AUs and thinking about how to make everyone feel like their canon selves, when they aren't in the titan world. Sometimes you have to take liberties but as long as you justify it in the story, it's all good. Characterisation is the most important thing for me, and it's always a puzzle, so I'm happy you think it worked this time. I actually don't hc Levi as an artistic genius, but the gift recipient does, so it was a challenge to write this. I was paranoid the whole thing was ooc 😅. I also approached this fic differently as I had a detailed structure and outline that I didn't drift from. Also wrote in present tense which is something I struggle with. BASICALLY idk why I gave my such a big challenge, but I did 🤣
And yes, they were BFFLs growing up so they always had each other in the back of their minds. 🥰

Y'all ever get hit with just a wall of isolation because of something so small someone said that made u feel so lonely?
Like just now my friends were talking abt how A keeps buying B stuff because thats A's love language but i never receive things from A. And its not the act of actually recieving anything its the connotations that maybe A doesnt love me as much as they love B?
Having friends and not being able to communicate with them is so fun and sexy guys

like. okay.
im fully certain trump, if he is in the running by november, will win the 2024 election.
put simply. biden fucked up really fucking bad by dividing his voter base by funding a genocide. theres just no two ways about it. hes fucked.
that being said.
if biden isnt going to win, a third party candidate is sure as hell not going to win in the nightmare system we are in now.
so your options are between 2 genocidal fascists. one endorsed and funded a genocide, let roe v wade get overturned, is trying to ban guns, has not made good on any of his election promises, and supports nuking an entire social media platform as a means of censorship. the other will double down on these (sans gun ban) and has an active public plan to further restrain the rights of his citizens should he be elected.
faced with these options, many choose to either vote third party or not vote at all in protest.
this, at best, will possibly indicate that there is interest in the reform of the system which forces this dichotomy. at worst? you throw away your vote to save your own sense of morality. you at least get to feel better about yourself. maybe the world still goes to shit but at least it wasnt your fault.
personally. if im forced to pick between those two options. im going to pick the one that minimizes harm as much as possible. because, frankly, i have very little faith the people in charge are going to change the system for anything but their benefit.
but like . what do i know.

for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal
before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"
and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"

I ❤️ self-loathing characters, characters who struggle with monstrosity (either fearing or embracing it), characters who are so lonely, who have a gaping hole in their chest, who bottle up & repress their feelings, who claw their way up & have ambitions, who fall down & lose everything, who search for identity & purpose yet can’t see themselves outside of what others want from or expect of them, who are hurt & hurt others, who long & grieve, who lie & pretend. characters who are messy & flawed & human
