Well, to start with, what do either of these terms even mean? We have an explanation of radqueers (and why the community is flawed) here! If the post is too long for you to read, a basis is: They steal terms from others, support transitioning for terms that never supported it in the first place or that are impossible to transition to (i.e. transracial and/or transage) and their community is full of entirely pro-contact beings (people who support paraphiles, all of them, acting on their paraphilias) and groomers whether a "good radqueer" or not.

But then, what's a radinclus? It's a term that's commonly associated with and mixed up with the term radqueer. Radinclus is short for "radically inclusive," the term generally means one is in support of identities like gaybians, lesboys & veldigirls/turigirls and mspec monos (pan lesbians, bi gays, etc.) All of these terms are known as "contradictory" and/or good faith terms.

So, what's the difference? Radqueers have outright stolen terms and are misusing them, whether using the terms in good faith or because they think it's "cute" or "fun" in some way, they're still being misused and causing harm. These terms belonged to different groups that weren't necessarily queer, but are being taken to mean something they never meant in the first place. Terms that those who are radinclus support have history in queer culture and have existed long before radqueers ever decided to appropriate other groups' terms.

The terms lesboy and veldigirl/turigirl are typically used by systems, those who are multigender or those who are trans and still feel a queer attraction towards women or men. These terms were never meant to be used by solely cisgender heterosexual men or solely cisgender heterosexual women. To say that multigender people who may identify as a man and a woman don't belong in either gay nor lesbian communities IS discrimination. You can be a minority and a marginalized group and discriminate against other marginalized groups, excluding multigender people from these spaces is discrimination. By letting them into your spaces, no, we aren't forcing you to date them. But acknowledge that they exist — acknowledge that gender is different for everyone and because of that, so is sexuality.

For those who are trans and still feel a queer attraction towards the opposite gender, that is entirely valid! The NWLNW (Non-Women Loving Non-Women) and NMLNM (Non-Men Loving Non-Men) terms were historically used by TERFs to discriminate against trans men and women and imply that they were not 'actual men' or 'actual women'. Alternative terms to NWLNW and NMLNM are QLM & QLW (Queer Loving Men and Queer Loving Women). A cisgender heterosexual man would never understand the queer attraction that a trans man might feel towards women, nor would a cisgender heterosexual woman be able to understand the queer attraction towards men that a trans woman may hold. And no, a trans man using the term lesbian or a trans woman using the term gay isn't misgendering themselves — if one label fits them more than another & they're using it in good faith, let them!

Now, what's a 'gaybian'? Or a 'lesgay'? Or a 'straightbian'!? Someone who identifies as both gay & a lesbian (or straight and a lesbian, but we'll be focusing on what a gaybian because the same explanation can be used for other variations). You might be thinking now, well if the definition for lesbian and gay are queer loving men and queer loving women, how can you experience queer attraction to both if you're not both genders? Well, for one, most people who are gaybian are multigender — the way they view their attraction to both genders may be different because of that. They may view themself as both a gay man and a lesbian woman, and that's perfectly valid! If you believe that one or both of their identities as such are invalid or that they need to make their own community, that just means you have internalized biases against multigendered people. Others who may use this term are systems due to the varying genders and orientations between the alters.

Finally, mspec monos, also known as mspec gays or lesbians. Firstly, what does 'mspec' mean? Mspec is short for multispec, which is the umbrella term for identities in which one is attracted to multiple genders — i.e. pansexual, bisexual, omnisexual, etc. How can one be both multispec and lesbian? The most common explanation are those who use SAM, the split-attraction model. Many use the argument that SAM was made for aspecs by aspecs, and therefore mspecs cannot use it, but the first example of the SAM was in 1879 by Karl Heinrich Ulrich who used the example of heteroromantic homosexual in his writings. While romantic and sexual attraction may not be as separate and more intertwined for others, that isn't the case for everyone. Not everyone has to use the split attraction model, but it does work for those who's sexuality and romantic orientations are aimed towards separate genders.

Some people just ARE multispec and gay/lesbian — not understanding an identity isn't an excuse to shit on or discriminate against it. That's not to say blindly accept it, but there is proof and recorded history of these identities existing in the queer community for years. You cannot brush them off as "just a new fad" or "trend" when they've existed since before you did. Most radqueers support harmful beliefs and encourage them, radinclus is the inclusion of identities that have always been apart of our community — but have been thrown to the side for more 'easy to understand' ones. Whether you think they're 'the reason people aren't willing to understand' or not, don't fight against people who're in the same community fighting the same fight as you. There will be people who will hate you whether you're the most 'normal', 'straight-person-looking' lesbian ever or the people that you hate in your own community — the only difference is that when they're driving YOU out, there'll be no one left to help you.

yeas :3 I'll do some for both but mostly douglas if that's alright!! 2nd half for douglas + harper hcs below the cut bc this got a bit long I have Many Thoughts on Douglas . lil warning for references to the whole skrendel thing for douglas and mentions of harper's military past but all in passing and whatnot . nothing super angsty or explicit just going over stuff. All of that is below the cut tho

he/him. bicurious/questioning and a little shy about it, but it's more of an open secret than anything. He is slowly realizing he likes guys a lot more than he likes women and he's unsure how to feel about it

Space is very pro lgbt it's very much normal for them bc there's all these different species and civilizations. why would any of them be cisheteronormative lol?? But really he's more embarrassed about actually feeling strong attraction and realizing he's a mushier person than he'd like to think. if that makes sense. like "oh no i am giggling like a schoolgirl over this guy what do i fucking do"

In general he doesn't like being seen as a vulnerable person, both physically and mentally. The idea of being in love for real is a little daunting to him...

I'd say he'd probably eventually land on bi or pan tho? Just with a heavy male/masc/etc lean.

From a moon with seas on it, think a less icy Europa! Currently lives on Port Terrene or a nearby territory.

His species is a delicacy for some alien races, mainly those living on the moon but he was basically fair game for anyone in that solar system so he booked it by sneaking onto a commercial spaceship to safety. Living in the background and slimy underbellies lead him to be where he is now.

He thinks that this is kind of funny by the way he has totally taken some of the higher ups to a restaurant that serves his kind to either stare them down for the whole meal or insist they order it and then wait in the bathroom so they think he straight up got cooked

Pretty physically fragile. PT's conditions are similar enough to his home moon in terms of gravity and whatnot that he's doing alright but he needs the suit to thrive there and survive on many other planets. That and he's very vulnerable to physical damage out of his suit. So, the suit is mainly for protection and an advantage in combat but there's also the advantage of hiding what he actually looks like-- useful for his line of work, deceiving others, and not letting most know he's a squishy lil guy.

Does not like the cold. He will languish… please…

Amphibious, can spend time out of the water but needs to be moist to breathe + thrive. Suit mists him down too.

In general the suit is pretty well coded and whatnot... engineering masterpiece... it's like a little mini mech kind of in my mind.

Would kill to pilot a huge ass mech some day btw. Douglas needs a huge ass mech.

Garmantuous, Nipulon, and probably Giblets have seen him out of his suit or otherwise know/have been told abt it. That and whoever of the Skrendel Bros he had that little tryst with. or not. idk.

Everyone else? A good deal of people mainly those in the crime syndicates have seen him without his helmet or been able to kind of see his face through it but I'm under the assumption that only some folks know he's a straight up octopus. Assuming this since Kenny didn't know and it took Gus some time to recognize him/he had to figure it out first so ig that means most folk (Including Rel and Krubis) don't really know !!

As for how the whole delicacy thing. ig that's like. other side of the galactic community. niche shtuff.

While he's generally an asshole and cruel to those beneath him, when it comes to the other officers of the G3 he's generally friendly (by Douglas standards tho). Still it's very 50/50. Total wildcard, does whatever entertains him. Prone to mischief, trickery, and dragging others along in his antics, sober or not. Will be your pal one day and your worst enemy the next. Workplace warfare game is peak I'll tell you that much

He does a good job at worming his way outta trouble. He's a clever lil guy pretty damn resourceful. People don't give him enough credit bc for all the lack of impulse control he shows he's smart and slick enough to un-fuck up the situation if need be.

Honestly I think it was Jonathan. Makes the most sense to me in my mind. The two are pretty much still just friends but Jonny boy kind of wishes there was more there now. Douglas doesn't, all that much. The other brothers know and Angela has probably pulled Douglas aside to beg "for the love of all that's holy let him down gently"

Mona was more like "If I so much as see a tear in my brother's eye you're calamari"

But they're all still pals. I guess. Everyone has their ups and downs? They still like getting up to mayhem when their paths cross and Jonathan is pretty friendly with Douglas still even if the other two are pretty... not all that ok abt the whole thing. the bros get protective.

Weirded out by Giblets but is honestly much too entertained by how pathetic he is to tell him to fuck off. He just tries to up the "what the fuck" factor when he can. On the other hand Giblets is very terrified yet very enthralled w/ Douglas. He is an enigma to the dr....

Things are also weird with Krubis. They kind of totally hate each other but it kind of makes them good friends. Above all else Douglas reminds Krubis of himself when he was younger so he kind of. Gets It and wants to keep a closer eye on him

like. they would get along so well but so awfully as well. there's no way krubis isn't jealous that Douglas has a better job and manages to keep it despite all the bullshit. There's no way they haven't been screwed over by Douglas once or twice by being caught in the crossfire of all the stuff he does. And I think Douglas is fickle with some of his workplace alliances some days he’ll take Krubis’s side others he’ll take Giblets he’s just like that for the goofs. Krubis gets pissed off w/ him a lot but I think they are low-key on the same wavelength. idk if that makes sense i'll probably draw or write it out in detail some day soon... hm...

Garm is Tired of Him. Nipulon is consistently disappointed and somehow also surprised with the crazy shit Douglas gets up to but does appreciate when Douglas comes around and does something competent by his standards. Gurgula found him annoying but is just. whatever.

Not always the best at reading the room.

A pretty optimistic person actually. Assumes best case scenario often. Even if his idea of the best case scenario involves killing people he doesn't like it's fine he's just a little guy

He can change colors somewhat, mostly at the tip of his tentacles. It's a signifier of health and emotion. There's a lot of patterns of flickering for communication and whatnot. They curl and deepen in color to denote distress, for example. And he's usually a pretty bright blue unless he's sick.

Epic gamer. With that many tentacles how could he not be. Total sucker for arcade games especially,,

He thought Sweezy was annoying but useful. Lots of bickering but considering she doesn't talk during the fight he probably turned off her ability to with that inhibitor thing later on into their time together? because i do not think she would willingly be quiet for his sake.

Honest 2 god he coulda been a stand up comedian or an actor or written a book or something he's funny enough for it. But ig torturing people was his calling.

And he is a very creative torture technician! He's definitely squeezed information out of people well before. He shows enough prowess here that Garm is still impressed enough to not have totally gone sicko mode on him god bless

this is a pro trans man lesbian/trans woman gay and bi/pan lesbian/gay/straight space

im more than happy to make a post on this as well! i would identify as a nonbinary lesbian, however everyone forces me in with trans male lesbians in their activism/transphobia because of the way i look, so ive become educated in that/am forced to speak on it often. but for all practical purposes, if you are against trans man lesbians, you wouldnt like me much, and im sorry i shouldve put it in my dni, but i didnt think id have to because my instagram (t4transsexual) is already geared towards male lesbians and bi/pan lesbians especially and i just kinda figured the right people would find me

and also! if your acceptance of trans lesbians stops at lesbians that you can put/force into the female category, youre still a transphobe. i see you, people who r "cool" with nonbinary lesbians but force me into the "trans male" category when i am nonbinary

Oh my God, so many things ... I used to be Pro-Life when I was in High School, if you can believe that. For a short time I was also a Radical Feminist that dipped into Terfdom until my early 20's. There for a bit after I deconditioned from that and started embracing Femininity, I nearly fell down the rabbit hole of Traditionalism (thankfully I pulled my head out of that shit creek real damned quick). I was also full of a lot of Bi / Panphobia in High School due to a lot of inter-Queer community bullshit that was hurled at me about my own identity (mostly self targeted, thank God; I've identified as Pan since the early 00's). I'm sure there's a lot more that I've forgotten.

A lot of this, mind you, however, is very typical of growing up in rural, agricultural America, in the Bible Belt, in the late 90's and early 00's. Especially when your first real exposure to liberal politics after your "freedom" from those spaces, is ultimately very radical leftist City spaces. And so I'm not surprised by what I originally believed, nor the fact that the pendulum swing was so extreme for me twice, on both sides of the spectrum. Though ironically, at no point did I ever consider myself Conservative; I've always considered myself Democrat, or on some end of the Liberal / Progressive side because of how I was raised- despite the fact that my parents themselves are now very Conservative.

I think it's a great thing, honestly, to be really open about where you've stood in the past, and how you've grown and changed over the course of your life. Especially because environment, and era, and so many other factors really do impact us and provide significant context for why we believed and thought the way we did (whether people want to acknowledge that or not, or want to argue Nature vs Nurture when it's both) ... I don't think, though, that it's something we should be constantly forced to apologize for throughout the entirety of our lives moving forward, like a lot of modern culture demands of us. I really do think that demand is ultimately incredibly unhealthy and toxic.

you know, partially unrelated to drama im not entirely sure actually exists over The Current Situation, i cant even get mad about the whole bi/pan lesbian thing anymore. like, obviously i think the label is stupid and harmful, but people who use it are generally not being malicious or purposefully transphobic, but instead just really wanting acceptance and not willing to accept that they’re being kinda dumb to get it. like, biphobia is soooo rampant even in lgbt spaces that it’s no surprise people would be hesitant to just accept that they could just be bi or pan? and its not too hard to see how someone, especially a teen, could misconstrue broad statements about “not fitting in to the System’s Rules Of Gender And Sexuality” as “the very definitions of these words are also irrelevant, because thats also Rules To Gender And Sexuality”

I've thought this for a while. It's pretty clear to me that most of these twitter, tumblr, etc accounts that largely revolve around hating B would've been the ones bullying B throughout his teens as a "faggot" 15-22 years ago. What makes this ironic is that these same generally also claim to be pro-lgbt & anti-bullying (largely dependent on if they see the bullied as members of groups they deem as sufficiently oppressed. Also a tendency to think oppression confers virtuousness, nobility, inability to be bad. therefore, sufficiently innocent and not deserving of it).

Bullying has a lot to do with in groups vs outgroups and conformity vs standing out. In these online enclaves, and real life spaces, the in group are those who follow specific politics and rules (that will also likely change within a few years, and previously Right On things will become Forbidden, as some already have). (although diff spaces will follow diff rules based on who forms/leads them, what patterns, thoughts take hold, and there's still broadly much similarity in these, I'm thinking of the ones aligned with these enclaves I'm discussing.) including ones of groupthink (only one way of thinking allowed, only set beliefs allowed, rumour milling), punishment (eg for disagreement, liking the wrong person, not joining pile-ons, having the gall to like or read or listen to something/someone everyone must hate and not engage with in any good faith way), exclusion (often under the banner of being kind, inclusive in the last several years).

It seems to me that these kids (teens, young adults) would be seeking the homophobic, sexist, gender enforcing in group in a homophobic environment when faced with a gender nonconforming, awkward, anxious, attracted to both sexes boy being frequently bullied by others. The others who are the "cool kids", the "in group" they wanted to or felt they had to join.

After all, who wants to be the odd one out when it's met with punishment? Who doesn't want to fit in, find community, bond with others over shared interests and beliefs, even when it is dependent on demeaning, harming those who don't, who are too weird, bad, wrong, gay to be part of the in group? Too the wrong kind of gay/bi. I've repeatedly seen this about B: he's the wrong kind of bi/pan/gay? They they are actually Right On. He is just so x, y, z he is nothing like them, not a non-het worthy of protection let alone simply being left alone, exempt, the hated out group. This is what I think enables them to treat him thusly while proclaiming they are the opposite of homophobic, are actually against bullying (when they don't think it's deserved). It enables them to somehow pretend the shit he got as a teen didn't happen. Seriously, he was even beaten repeatedly by two guys in particular, and physically bullied by others. Or wasn't actually homophobia, or was actually karma happening early. (Provides excuses to the bullied then and now: see, they know he deserved it.) At best, he didn't deserve it then, but he sure does now. And it's totally nothing like homophobia now, even as we call him the wrong kind of gay, and therefore nothing can be wrong. Get him! (Cue fantasies of beatings, even murder...) Righteousness also plays a huge role. If they were in a space where the popular thing, the Right On thing was picking on the "fags", "spazs", "sluts", "homos", "dykes", "sissies," fat girls, poor kids, the kids who couldn't defend themselves, the kids who didn't gender conform, the kids who likely were same sex attracted... that's what they'd be doing, mostly gleefully, eagerly. With a sense of righteousness, of righting wrongs.

Bullying is about conformity, of the bully and the bullied, and I think a desire to conform, to belong (usu through conformity) is what drives it. Conformity, a desire to conform and make others conform too, is often actually profoundly cowardly (even if also often both a response to & a manifestation of authoritarianism).

Tldr: the accounts focused on the online in thing of hating Brendon, most of whom also claim to be pro-lgbt & pro-social justice & anti-bullying, would've been bullying Brendon for homophobic, gender enforcing reasons because he was a picked on weird gender nonconforming "faggot", as that was the in thing through his teens.

(Has fandom forgotten or never learned about how mostly other boys treated him in his teens? How commonly he was called homophobic slurs? The beatings? Maybe the not knowing also helps them feel righteous. Helps in demonizing him.)

The pan label has a long and complicated history. It started as a micro label, alongside a bunch of others, including bisexuality. Nothing much to note. Then the internet became a thing. Colleges had the most access, and a lot of feminists were transphobic. Along with the devastation AIDS caused us, the lesbian separatist movement, and the power of Authoritative Academic Style Writing, these people successfully destroyed decades of queer history and solidarity. In heavily transphobic LGB spaces, L, G, and B folks were, well, transphobic. Pretty much everyone was. In less transphobic spaces, binary trans people were accepted, but enbies were still harshly rejected.

The bi label was constantly in flux. Bi means 2, and 2 only! Cis only! Cis women and trans women only! Everyone!

It was absolute chaos. Didn't help that the the kids on the internet often had zero access to queer history, and the internet was HUGE. So many different opinions, so many bubbles.

Unless you were there, I don't think I can describe how separate everything was. Social media didn't exist. People made their own sites, and they had absolute control over them. It was like living in your library with a pitch dark warehouse behind it. SEO and Google weren't really a thing. And most of the sites you saw were really weird.

The nerely non-existent pan label was coopted by a very angry bi person who was pro trans. They redefined pan as The Non Transphobic Bi. The entire point of their pan was that it included transgender people. That's where hearts not parts comes from. It wasn't transphobic. It was explicitly trans inclusive.

Trans folks fled to pan spaces for safety. Even monosexual people, sometimes even pro trans cis people. It was a whole political thing. This bred resentment between bi and pan folks, especially as new bi folk came on the scene and were like transphobic? What did I do?

And they were right. They weren't transphobic.

As the internet grew, the history and fights of pan vs bi were forgotten. People adopted whichever label suited them best. People also made assumptions on what they heard through the game of telephone. This led to a new fight. Why does pan exist? Erase it! Clearly pan is the transphobic one!

Which, to the older pans who went through all that transphobia, felt like the trans wars all over again.

Bi folks aren't transphobic now. And bi folks aren't responsible for what their predecessors did. And not all bi folks were transphobic back then. In fact, the offline bi community had a whole thing about including everyone. Even aces and aros. As is always the case, IRL queer communities are soooo much better than internet ones.

Pan vs bi has a painful history. But that doesn't mean either label is inherently evil or should be destroyed.
