Hints That Buddie Is Going Canon!!
Ok after last nights wonderful episode, I went back and reread every single interview Oliver and KR have given since the start of 6b and oh gosh, I think they’ve been hinting at Buddie this entire time. Here are some important takeaways from Oliver and KR!!
“This is all about Buck learning who he is and embracing that he’s enough as he is.”—literally the one person who always supports and embraces Buck for who he is has been Eddie. We saw that last night as well. We saw with the whole “I know you did” in 4.04. Now it’s about Buck learning who he is and maybe uncovering things about himself that he hasn’t before. That’s not even mentioning Eddie’s and Buck’s parallels of wanting to be enough for someone.
“I think the main thing for him is that anybody that he is to become romantically entwined with has to meet him where he is.”—Who literally met Buck at the door yesterday when he was trying to escape everyone? Oh yeah, Eddie. Not only that, but Eddie is the one person who wouldn’t have a problem in meeting Buck where he is in his life and being completely fine to start up a relationship. He’s so supportive and understanding of Buck and his decisions. It’ll be the only reasonable partner for him.
“He’s becoming very settled in himself, and if that person that he ends up partnering with isn’t ok with that, then they’re just not the right person.”— Love the gender neutral terms he always uses and we know Buck’s partner in the show is Eddie. He also was very settled on Eddie’s couch in last nights episode when he fell asleep so comfortably. Eddie opened his home to him and accepted what he needed without pushing for more. It was his own way of proving to Buck that he’s ok with everything Buck throws his way. He’s accepting of it and I think we’ll see more of that in upcoming episodes.
“He’s going to be comfortable with who he is.” —something about this seems like he’s going to come to some realizations about himself and be completely ok with that.
“The show is certainly gonna make some experimental choices going forward.” —Experimental choices?!? We all know people who are curious or questioning something about themselves, such as their sexuality, that they tend to experiment and see what results it yields. So I think it’s possible we’ll see some sort of experimental choices when it comes to Buck and Eddie and their relationship.
“But then I think following the struggle, there’s potential for peace and for him to feel a little more grounded.” —This was in midst of his character’s recovery process. We saw Buck struggle last episode but when did he feel most grounded? When he was in Eddie’s presence. Eddie grounds Buck and we even got that distinct parallel with Bobby and Athena in the same episode. Need I say more?
“He is in his early 30s, and he’s figuring things out about himself and using them as chances to upgrade who he believes he is.” —Figuring things out? About himself? If that’s not queer coded then idk what it is. The man is gonna figure out things about himself, such as possible feelings for his male best friend and use that as a chance to better himself. So that he can be a better version of himself and be ready for that potential next step with Eddie.
“So him being in a position of such peril, I think is really going to affect them, and is really going to bring out all kinds of emotions, and even the characters that we don’t necessarily get to see that emotional side of so much.” —This can only be about Eddie because we’ve seen all the other characters show their emotions when it comes to other things. The one person who really struggled with showing his emotions has been Eddie. We saw him yelling for Buck and running up to save him. We even got him struggling to keep it together while Buck was in a coma.
“I really like something that we're in the middle of right now. I think the finale is a really fantastic episode. I think it's really, really high octane but really offers a lot in terms of moving these characters forward and putting them in good places.”— There’s been a lot of talk from Oliver and KR about the finale. The fact that Oliver emphasizes the he really, really likes the finale means something great is going to come out of it. Especially considering how he mentions “moving these characters forward”. Like that’s all meant to tease that his character will be in a good enough place in the end right? And he’ll be moving forward. Now let’s look at everything else that’s been said.
“I think the finale is something that people are really going to respond to.”—Ok so he mentions how people are going to respond to the finale and I don’t think this is in a negative context whatsoever. So whatever does happen is going to get a rise (in a good way) out of us.
“I’ve seen some speculation that it might be in a romantic sense. I’m very happy to be clear on that, but it’s not and in fact, I would say it’s very much the opposite of that…He’s very much not pleased to see her.”—We know big things are happening in the finale and that Lucy will be back. He immediately and happily shuts down any “love interest” talk and implies that the reason he sees her may have something to do with someone else. We know from BTS she’s an air medic now. So whatever happens in the finale has to be connected to her reappearance. Well if a certain someone is in danger and they need Lucy’s help to get them out, it could be a reason as to why he’s not too pleased to see her.
“There will be a new couch. And spoiler alert, the new couch might be in some danger before the season is over.”—This is from KR and like sure it can be about anyone m, but let’s really look at what we already know. Buck went to Eddie’s house and safely fell asleep on Eddie’s couch. We know Buck has a new uncomfortable couch but it’s only temporary. We’ve also gotten tons of BTS for the finale and Eddie has been missing for a good chunk of it. I don’t think it makes sense to think there’ll be a new love interest who is this metaphorical couch, who will be in danger before the season ends. The only thing that makes sense is that Eddie is the couch who’ll be in danger.
“I love that the fans have picked up on the symbolism of the couch. Buck is attached to this symbolism of couches being related to relationships, and that's not something that's actually going away anytime soon. Up until Buck's very last scene of the season, we'll see that symbolism at play.”—Oliver once again being one with the fandom and recognizing what we all know. This was done after the couch scene at Eddie’s house and I don’t believe for one moment he would’ve said all of this when he knew that deliberate choice of having Buck on Eddie’s couch existed. This further confirms thet there’ll be no other love interest and that Eddie is the couch in question here. So with everything we know that’s been said about the couch, it’s easy to connect the dots and come to the same conclusion which is that Eddie will be in some kind of danger in the finale. Not only that, but according to Oliver, Buck will be thinking about what that metaphor means to him and we’ll see it all unfold as the season progresses. That last sentence tells me that the last scene we get of Buck will be him accepting who his couch has been this entire time. Which means we’re most likely gonna get a final scene of Buck on Eddie’s couch, making it very clear where their storylines are heading and that’s in a romantic direction.
“Building towards a finale we've been planning since the beginning of the season."—KR literally mentions that the finale has been something they’ve been planning since before the season. What was the very first episode we saw??? The Buckley-Diaz family dinner scene right?? And the first mention of the couch metaphor?! With everything else that’s happened since the beginning of this season, it makes sense that they’ve known from the beginning how their storylines were gonna end by the finale and that’s with us all knowing that Buck and Eddie are heading towards the romantic relationship we’ve all been waiting for year for. These next few episodes leading up to the finale will be crucial to the final outcome and I can’t wait to see how they develop their relationship towards one of romance.
“Eddie is going to start dipping his toe back in the dating waters. We just wanted to have a little bit of fun with it, and he goes out on a date or two and makes various attempts at finding the person that he wants to date seriously, and he has mixed results.”— I wanted to include this too because KR could’ve worded this in numerous ways but she chose to say “mixed results”. I’m firm in my belief that Eddie has to know, at least to some extent, that he has feelings for Buck. So maybe he tries some random dates and comes to the conclusion that he rather be at home or with Buck. And we have that damn poker scene to still look forward to so like maybe he accidentally ends up on a date with Buck and realizes how much better it went compared to the others. The word choice is so loud and compared with everything else, everything just adds up together.
I mean, there’s just a lot that’s being said that really does hint at Buddie going canon. Now whether we get actual love confessions or feelings realization or what, I don’t know. But I do know come the finale, we will all be left in certain terms that Buddie will be going the romantic direction come next season. I am really excited to go on this journey with them because I just know it’ll all be so worth it in the end!

I’m over here absolutely ecstatic about how well done this 3 part premiere is. The disaster, the heart, the humor it’s all there. It’s like a fresh start.
Thoughts have been percolating as I showered after the end of the episode because I don’t necessarily think Tommy is gonna be Buck’s next relationship. Hear me out.
First off, the look Buck and Tommy shared didn’t scream more than a thanks to me. At least on Buck’s end. Tommy did appear in the middle of them for a brief moment suggesting a possible foreshadowing moment.
However, Eddie heads off first. This signals to me that Eddie is much more ahead of Buck in terms of loving himself and living for himself. And calls back to Ryan’s interviews stating he’s happier and more free. And no I don’t think Marisol will tie into this at all.
Then we get the brief look of thanks and pat between Buck and Tommy. It’s brief and it’s signals that maybe Tommy is more into Buck.
Then Buck leaves and follows Eddie. Because ultimately that’s his future he’s striving for.
Tommy and Buck may have a minor flirtation. But not a relationship because Buck just got out of one. Buck is the one now that has to start living for himself and loving himself. Tommy can set that in motion.
I have no doubt that Tommy will set something in motion for Buddie. Either by flirting with Buck, making him flustered because he doesn’t know how to handle a man flirting with him that isn’t Eddie. Or Tommy trying to recruit one of them and it spurs a conversation of them not wanting to leave the 118.
I don’t see anything coming out of this Tommy bit other than being used as a plot device. Oliver said Buck has to get off the hamster wheel and live. He has to learn to love himself before anything starts with Eddie.
Also guys we have gotten one or two glimpses of Tommy in BtS and stills. Everything else is Buck and Eddie. The promos, the stills. Buddie is more in sync on screen than ever. And they haven’t had a scene apart yet. (Chris and Buck with Eddie listening at the door still counts).
And yes, I would love see my jealous, petty Eddie again. Because that is one of my favorite versions of Eddie.
Also I would love a verbal I love you between Buck and Eddie. Even a platonic I love you (ie the McDanno I love you). Just something to cement what these two have goes deeper than friendship (and deeper than brothers. Come on guys).

if you never try, you’ll never know
another 6x11 coda (eddie’s version | buck’s version)
his son is braver than he is.
it’s not something eddie wants to admit to, but—
christopher keeps begging to go see buck, and eddie is terrified of walking into that room.
they’d all been in, at first, when buck had been wheeled into his own room, but then visiting hours were over and the doctors’ patience was beginning to fray, and eddie had to get home to christopher.
they’d come back the next morning, at christopher’s insistence, but there’s no kids in the ICU. so eddie sits in the waiting room, and he goes on coffee runs, and he tries his best to answer all of christopher’s questions about lightning strikes.
every time, he thinks about the fact that buck would know the answer.
carla comes by with lunch and more coffee, and offers to sit with christopher while eddie goes to see buck. and he makes up an excuse, lies right to her face, something about tests or scans or some other good, medical reason why eddie can’t get to his feet and walk fifty yards down the hallway of first presbyterian to see his—
to see buck.
there is no good, medical reason, and by the look carla gives him over the top of christopher’s curly head, he thinks maybe she knows that. but she lets him hide within his own cowardice.
he just—he can’t see buck. not like this, not small and pale in a hospital bed with half his blood volume in plastic tubing. because if buck—if this is it, that can’t be his last memory of him. eddie needs his last memory of buck to be a good one, like when he’d let the words alright cowboy slip out of his mouth and buck had grinned his weird little bashful grin, and the electricity sparking under eddie’s skin had nothing to do with the storm gathering above.
if buck doesn’t wake up, it’s the only way he’ll be able to go on.
the hiding works, for the first three days buck is in the hospital. everyone is so distracted with worry that no one notices eddie is always the one getting coffee, always the one sitting with christopher and watching jee-yun if maddie and chimney are both in with buck.
it works, until christopher becomes so desperate to see buck that eddie can’t tell him no anymore.
(and it’s in him, too, the itch. the urge to round the corner and sit by buck’s bed, to hold his hand and hear the steady beep of his heart on the monitor and now that for now he is still alive. to squeeze his hand as if he can somehow donate some of his own life force, whatever it takes to get him to wake up.
it’s in him, too.
but the fear is stronger.)
christopher walks right up to buck, but eddie hangs back in the doorway. he knows there are tears streaming down his face, but when hen glances up at him, all she does is nod in greeting.
there are dried tear tracks under her eyes, too.
buck lies motionless in the bed, just as he had the last time eddie had been in this room. christopher is talking, but eddie can’t make sense of the words. it’s just a hum of white noise in his ears, static, because the picture in front of him is so wrong that nothing seems real.
eddie comes back to himself just in time to hear the last words christopher says. “you have to come back.”
please, buck, he thinks. you’ve never been able to deny him anything. please don’t start now.
buck gets out of the hospital, and for three days eddie doesn’t go and visit him.
it’s because his parents are there, he tells himself. he doesn’t want to overwhelm buck, he tells himself.
but the truth is, he doesn’t know if he knows how to look buck in the face now that he knows what it feels like to nearly lose him. he doesn’t know how to begin to explain to buck how it felt.
he doesn’t know how to explain to buck what he thinks he’d known all along, but now knows for sure.
so he stays away. he gives buck space. and every day the thought of going to see him gets a little bit harder, until—
on the third day, buck knocks on his door, and eddie moves to hug him before he even knows what he’s doing. buck knocks on his door, and the second eddie sees him he knows none of it matters.
it’s buck. everything else is going to work itself out.

hello anna! i’m thinking about eddie right now like i always am lol but tonight i’m extra confused/mad about his season 7 characterisation. it seems like in switching buck and eddie’s potential queer storylines they also switched their personalities. “i jump into things too quickly and make impulsive choices etc etc” is the complete opposite of eddie. it’s literally buck who does that and that has been acknowledged many times in canon. idk it’s just so strange lmao i’m hoping it comes back around to something and isn’t just bad writing
Hi, darling, I agree with you to some degree, but I'm gonna give you my reasoning to try to stay chill while the story moves and not panic so far (I am enjoying him being a lighter version of himself, more willing to make mistakes and turn back around when he realizes not just sticking it out). Eddie does move fast. I mean he had Buck in his will within a year, and, like, Ana too, he went from unsure to having her in the house in one episode, I think that with the way he married Shannon right out of highschool, he kinda makes himself jump in trying to capture whatever he had with her, the way he was too careful about her coming back that eventually led him to "losing" time he could've had might also play a part. I think it comes with his tendency to overcorrect. He wasn't in with Ana so now he went all in now to see if that would work. Because something about Eddie is that he is reckless. He knows consequences might be catastrophic but if his gut is telling him to do something he just cuts his line and hopes for the best. And I mean, the guy was having panic attacks about a relationship that he was determined to make work for god knows what reason. I do think the moving in thing came out of nowhere. That was legit the most far off the left field thing they could've done. Because really, that affects Chris too much for him to just do it. And they so know that, that Chris was nowhere to be found. So I kinda wanna believe they have something planned to come out of this? Because if he keeps saying he wants Shannon again, he might believe that maybe the shock of responsibility might get him there? And maybe he's about to find out he needs to stop trying to recreate her? Because that is a weird situation to put him in just for the comedic effect of his plotline this episode. I made a post before the episode about how Marisol is supposed to be Taylor for Eddie, because they have this annoying habit of paralleling the love interests, but I never thought they would get this on the nose about it, yk? They're literally repeating dialogue and I'm really curious to see why Marisol being Taylor is so important or if there's a point in it at all, yk? But, yeah also wish they were handling him a bit more carefully this season, for sure, I feel like I never know where he's going next and that's a weird feeling.

Steve has a nightmare of an alternate version of events where Eddie died. That didn't really happen, we all saw it.
Eddie is awoken by the phone and when he answers it the only response on the other end is a sigh.
"Steve?"
"Yeah it's me," he says quietly, just above a whisper, "sorry for calling, I just needed..."
"No it's fine. Are you okay?"
"I had a nightmare."
"Do you want me to come over?"
"Oh, no you don't have to do that. I'm good now."
"No I'm coming over."
"Ed-"
"See you soon." Eddie hangs up and goes straight to his van, not even changing out of his pajamas.
~~~
When he gets there he knocks on the front door and it opens immediately, as if Steve was waiting there. He barely has the door shut behind him when Steve's arms are around his neck, pulling Eddie into a tight hug, forehead resting on Eddie's shoulder. Eddie wraps his arms around Steve's lower back and pulls him closer.
They stand there for several minutes before either of them speak.
"You should try to go back to sleep." Eddie's suggests but Steve is already shaking his head.
"Never can, after."
"Okay. Well we can go sit on the sofa?"
"You'll come with me?"
"Yeah of course."
It takes Steve a few seconds to let go but he pulls Eddie over to the living area. They sit and Steve presses himself into Eddie's side, Eddie's arm is around Steve's shoulders.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Eddie asks and Steve hesitates before replying.
"You were dead."
"What?"
"In the Upside Down. You died."
"Oh." Eddie says and holds him closer. "I'm here Stevie."
"Yeah."
Steve squeezes him harder and a short time later his breathing evens out and Eddie knows he's asleep. It doesn't take long for Eddie to follow.
"Hi." Steve says, blinking up at him. "That's the best I've slept in ages."
Eddie wakes up to bright sunshine and it takes him a moment to remember where he is. Somehow they're fully lying on the sofa now; Steve still in Eddie's arms, lying on his chest. Eddie tries to stay as still as possible until Steve is slowly waking up too.
"I'm glad."
"I wish I could stay here but I have to be at work soon." Steve stands up as Eddie moves to a seated position. "You want me to find you some clothes?"
"Nah, I'll get going. Wayne'll be wondering where I am." Eddie says as he's putting his shoes on.
Steve follows him to the door and pulls him into another hug.
"Thank you." He whispers against Eddie's neck.
"Anytime." Eddie pulled back with a smile. "See you tomorrow."
Eddie gets in his van and feels strangely calm as he drives back to his place.
~~~
It becomes Steve's greeting for Eddie every time he sees him. An embrace that's almost too tight and verging on too long. He does it in front of everyone that next day when they're all at Steve's. They like to get together sometimes when they're all free. It's usually a Sunday afternoon like today.
Eddie is the last to arrive and when Steve notices he's there he gets up from where he was sitting with Dustin and throws his arms around Eddie. Robin raises her eyebrows at them but doesn't say anything.
"I'm here Stevie." Eddie whispers and Steve nods into his shoulder.
A few days later Steve is picking up Dustin, Lucas and Erica from Hellfire and when he sees Eddie he gets out of his car and strides over to pull him close. After the usual quiet exchange Steve goes back to where the kids are waiting for him.
It continues like this for a couple of weeks until they're at the arcade one day. When Eddie waves at the group as they arrive, the only response from Steve is a weird smile and a tiny nod.
For the rest of the day Steve ignores him and Eddie has to pretend everything is normal while he's freaking out inside.
A little while after he gets home, Eddie decides he can't just sit and think about it anymore so he calls Robin. She answers after a few rings.
"Hey Buck."
"Eddie? What's wrong?"
"Is Steve okay? Do you know if I did something to upset him?"
"What makes you say that?"
"Um... he, uh, blanked me today... you know what, it doesn't matter" he goes to hang up but hears her tell him to wait. He puts the phone back to his ear.
"So Steve was acting weird and you think it's your fault?"
"Well, yeah"
There's a long pause where it sounds like she moved the phone away but then she's back.
She tells him about something the kids have been doing and he's just laughing at something she's quoting from one of them when he hears a knocking.
"It's not. I promise it's not. You should talk to him. Maybe let him explain?"
Eddie sighs. "Can we talk about something else please? I need to keep my mind off it."
"There's someone at the door, I gotta go. Thanks for this, Robin."
He doesn't expect Steve to be on the other side of the door so he just stands silently as Steve invites himself in.
"Eddie. I don't want you blaming yourself for any of this." Steve says. There are tears in his eyes and all Eddie can do is blink at him. "I was at Robin's when you called."
"Oh." Eddie looks down at the floor between them. "Steve, I don't know what's going on."
Steve takes a deep breath and nods to himself. "I had to back off because I didn't want to lose you but now I realize I might have done that anyway." There's a tear trailing down one of Steve's cheeks and Eddie wants to wipe it away. "It's just that whenever I'm near you I want to kiss you and I don't-"
"I wouldn't be opposed to that." Eddie cuts him off.
"Huh?"
"I mean, I want that too."
Steve's eyes search Eddie's face. "Really?"
"For so long." Eddie smiles at him.
Steve's breath hitches and he launches himself at Eddie, pulling him into a kiss. He kisses him the same way he hugs, like he never wants to let go. He has to eventually, though, and when he does he wraps his arms around Eddie's neck, forehead on his shoulder. It's familiar yet different now.
"I'm here Stevie."
Steve lets out a happy sigh.

(I just finished it seconds ago so sorry if I get any details wrong)
Just as I was starting, twitter notif recced a 911 tweet. I don't go near 911 twitter so who knows why. Anyway, they were angry that Eddie wasn't in the dream and I found that weird. It's about how Buck changed their lives so of course Eddie isn't there. We *know* without Buck he would have been lost.
Eddie was his first real world memory. His annoyance at the suggestion that he went up a ladder without a spotter because *clearly* he had Eddie was obvious imo.
His next real world memory, the only thing he noticed from was a ferris wheel. Christopher and the tsunami. Showing us his 'loving family' in the alt world but the glaring problem is Christopher isn't there. His son.
And then what happened to 'Firefighter Diaz' and his son. Of course that makes sense. Angry Eddie, Eddie in the being struggled with his emotions and has no partner to turn to and open up. No Carla because Buck introduced them. An ugly custody battle with his parents because there was no Buck to help him through and do what Buck has always down. Christopher being raised by his grandparents, like Eddie specifically told Buck he never wanted.
Eddie's worst nightmares coming true because Buck wasn't there to have his back like they promised.
And then he's trying to leave his dream, it's Christopher he has to flatly deny and run from. Why? Because he knows that Christopher (and finding Eddie) is the thing that he could lose himself in and keep him there. His parents? No way, he liked seeing that version of him but he realised he didn't need it if he's OK with being himself. Buck even notes he'll feel guilty from the flat no. He *knows* they are his family with the real pull.
Arguably, it's easier to used Christopher to symbolise it because the father figure role came so naturally. It's not scary to take on but admitting Eddie is so much more *is* terrifying and that's why Christopher is a far safer avatar to symbolise the Buckley-Diaz family.
I know people got their hopes up about the couch stuff and this is a good reminder that speculation fun isn't a promise. And his parent make sense with the plot even if I do nor like them.
Eddie and Chris will absolutely be vital, Buck's PTSD makes sense to be Buck and Eddie contect because Eddie had his own PTS arc last year.
So, yeah, these are my initial reaction thoughts before I've seen any posts at all. Interested to see what everyone else thinks but yeah.
Also Eddie breaking the rules because Chris's bond with Buck is so important? Yes, thank you, we love to see it.

I wondered about that too I was thinking since the bridge collapse is a major catastrophe that it will be 2 episodes but I guess it's because of the show cancellation and thinking its the final season besides they actually never really had major calls in s6 so budget was really affected
Hi Nonnie, thank you for this ask!
I feel like if so many people are raising an eyebrow at the bridge collapse not being a two part call, that says something. It just did not feel quite right to me, even though there were moments in it that did affect me. But the same moments I think would have worked even better if this was spread out. If we could have had more time to see the impact of these moments on our firefighters. Maybe even interlace these moments with flashbacks to their personal lives. Think about how much more impactful Hen's bits in the call would have been if we got to see her thinking about her last conversations with Karen during it, for example. Or Buck rescuing Eddie, how much more poignant would it have been if it got injected with flashbacks to their domestic joy with Chris? Or a conversation bringing up the will?
We did have at least one big call (Buck's lightning strike) where they did the right thing and spread it out across two eps. I also am not sure about the budget... If they thought they were over, wouldn't it make more sense not to hold back and spend everything they had left on the last ep?
I honestly have no idea how the possible cancellation of 911 influenced 618. I can see three possible scenarios:
They always knew it could be cancelled, went in planning for this ep to be the last one, and made zero changes after finding out that they got picked up by ABC, so we watched the show finale as they planned it, no constraints involved.
They knew the show could be cancelled, but felt pretty confident that they'd get picked up, planning s6 as if it would be. At some point they realized the possibility of cancellation is real and hastily adapted the end of 6b so 618 would be the show finale. When they did get picked up, no changes were made 'coz that would be the second time around, so we got the rushed finale version.
They knew the show could be cancelled and decided to plan for it, building s6 as if it's the last season. At some point they realized the possibility of being picked up is much greater than they thought and hastily adapted 618 to leave stuff for the next seasons. What we saw is an adapted version of the show finale, meant to have us wanting to continue, since there are still some issues, like Buck once more making the wrong romantic choices.
I have NO IDEA which one of these we witnessed! What do you think, Nonnie? Your guess is as good as mine. But since I really don't think we'll know until someone there chooses to tell us (and if someone does, please update me), I'm gonna put this matter aside and stop wondering about it, I'll just feel very grateful this is not 911's finale.
Thank you for chiming in! I hope this helps. As always, here is my ask tag. xoxox

Hi!
Buddie + "I don't want to leave"
If it inspires, thank you!
"I don't want to leave." Buck sighs a content sound of pleasure as Eddie's fingers softly move through his hair; twirling strands gently before massaging along his scalp.
"Then don't. Stay." Eddie replies softly, his fingertips moving as he strokes Buck's hair, feeling the soft curls in his hands.
He likes this version the Buck. Well, he likes all of his versions, but Buck in sweatpants and hair free of product, with his curls showing and framing his face just right? Eddie thinks he could stay there forever.
Buck's skin looks almost golden under the warmth light of the lamp and the soft light of the tv in front of them, his hair looks all soft and fluffy, with sleep still clear in his blue eyes. This is one of Eddie's favorite sights.
"This would be like the fifth night I'd stay over. I'll have to go back to my loft eventually, Eds." Buck looks up at him, with half a smile.
They are lying on the couch. or, Buck is at least. Eddie is sat up, a movie playing in the background but neither is paying it too much attention. Buck has gotten comfortable almost as soon as the movie started and rested his head against Eddie's tigh. The only thing that could make this peaceful moment better would be if Christopher was there with them.
There's still a plate of half eaten pizza on the table, and two empty bottles of beer. Eddie knows he should get up and clean the dishes, but his boyfriend's weight against him and his warmth are too nice to move away.
"Who said that? You could just stay here." Eddie strokes his cheek and his birthmark. "Forever."
Buck frowns, tilting his head as much as Eddie's hands will let him. "Are you serious? You're asking me to move in?"
"Look, I know we haven't been dating for that long but I've been in love with you for years and– we know each other. So it wouldn't be like we're rushing things." Eddie says, trying and failing to sound casual. "Besides, Chris wants you to stay. I want you to stay." Eddie shrugs. "So if you don't want to leave, you don't have to."
"Okay." Buck whispers, something like awe shining in his eyes when he looks at his boyfriend. "I'll stay."
send me a ship and a sentence and i'll write the next 5 (or more) sentences!

Buck NEEDS Trauma Processing, Stat!
Because of Buck’s really surprising 516 discussion of his 218 leg injury and early s3 blood clots etc, the impact of the shooting and hostage situation on Buck have been on my mind A LOT lately. The floodgates are opening for him…wider than before apparently. We’ve known for a while that Buck needs to process the traumas he’s experienced but his graphic overshare with a patient on a rescue (combined with Eddie’s overwhelm & plea for Buck to stop!) really drove that point home for me.
Tumblr media
I can’t stop thinking about Buck’s various reactions to Eddie being shot in 414. Buck was shook to his core!
Tumblr media
We only have 2 more eps left in s5 and we have still only gotten honorable mentions of the shooting, but no actual discussion of either of their specific feelings about it! Both men are still incredibly reticent to get into. There are a host of character and narrative reasons why I guess, but if the silence around it was loud at the start of s5 then it’s deafening now in the 11th hour!
Eddie’s run in with the well back in s3 affected Buck but the show didn’t really show us much of the impact beyond the episode in which it happened. The shooting was different. We have gotten tidbits of quiet reactions from Buck that I think are specifically related to the shooting (and of course is pinging things that came before and after).
In 502 when Eddie talks about the panic attacks, Buck suggests that it could be about the shooting and Eddie dismisses that. I couldn’t find the exact gif I wanted but Buck looked away like he needed to hide the fact that the shooting did indeed still affect him, even if Eddie claimed to be fine. It was like he was in a low-key version of “stow it away and save the next one” mode where Eddie was the next one in that case because of the panic attacks.
Tumblr media
Then in 506 Buck is worried out of his mind about Eddie again. He spends the whole ambulance ride staring at Mitchell’s gun and then just waiting in the hospital for Eddie to make it out of the deadly situation alive. While he’s waiting he looked terrified most of the time but also like a man who was reminded of the shooting and his terror in that situation too. But he swallows it.
Tumblr media
Eddie of course has a TON going on this season. I think Eddie is working his way up to talking about the shooting and hostage situation with Buck if Eddie’s conversation with Carla in 510 and his therapy session in 513 with Frank are any indication. Eddie’s going through a slow, measured, therapist-guided ascent from the depths of his pain. He’ll get to the shooting (and by extension the hostage situation) eventually I think but he’s not ready quite yet. There’s an order of operations and he’s working the problem.
Buck seems different. He’s stowed it away. Maybe he’s avoiding the hard topic for his own sake, or waiting for Eddie to be ready to process it with him, or both. Either way, Buck does seem personally invested in pretending like he’s fine. I mean - the man did say sometimes “I hide my true feelings from others” at the start of s4. He was leveled by the shooting in ways I don’t think he can quite put into words yet. On top of that, it’s like if he can’t start the conversation in terms of Eddie’s well-being first and foremost (rather than his own) then it’s not worth bringing up.
Buck mentioned the shooting in 514 but it was just a mention and expressly for the purpose of helping Eddie to see that he’d given Charlie a second chance. Even when Buck raised the issue of the shooting in a practical and focused way, he broke eye contact for a second and ducked his head way down in what seemed like intentionally non-threatening (and maybe guilty?) body language. It stood out to me because Buck is tall and takes up space but he seemed to be working hard not to in that moment. Like he wanted Eddie to know without a doubt that this wasn’t Buck’s time to feel his feelings about the shooting, but Eddie’s time to gain some healing perspective.
Tumblr media
I would imagine that Buck still harbors feelings of fear, shame, and guilt over the shooting and then the hostage situation compounded that because he had to leave Eddie with Mitchell. I don’t think he feels like he’s allowed to be wrecked too over how afraid he was and how helpless he felt and over almost losing someone who means so damn much to him.
Even in 516 when Buck was worried about Bobby after the dispatch ceiling collapse, later at the hospital, something about the way Buck looked at Eddie while everyone was talking about Bobby how luck Bobby was made me think that conversation was probably talking about both Bobby and Eddie being lucky to be alive! Like Buck was taking that moment to acknowledge/celebrate Bobby’s new lease on life and bask in Eddie’s too!
Tumblr media
All the moments above where it looked like Buck was actively swallowing or hiding his feelings for Eddie’s sake, they all stood out for me because I think that pattern of Buck pretending with Eddie has to break this season, just like Eddie’s pattern had to break with Buck.
I wonder if the Buck issue that some folks been predicted at the Henren vow renewal (thanks @stagefoureddiediaz & bts pics of white-shirt clad Buck!) will have something to do with Buck’s emotional dam breaking down and his trauma being forced to the surface! Perhaps a trigger event like cocktail sauce all over his perfect white shirt ?!?!?! Bonus points if Eddie causes this or sees this happen and has to whisk Buck away due to dissociation or a panic attack!
The last thing I want is for the Henren vow renewal to be highjacked by Buck’s feelings but I think there are some creative ways to have a moment where something happens with Buck and they have to at least broach the fact that there are unresolved shooting issues/feelings for Buck too, not just Eddie.

SaL anon here friend, hoping your in the mood for some incoherent Friday rambling because that's where I'm at right now and have been for days. First off, i think we should both thank and curse the new intern 911 hired, who apparently switched out the promo team's decaf for some Columbian dark roast. Seriously after spending the first half of the season practically catatonic between episodes suddenly we can't catch a break for even 24 hours before the next unhinged thing comes out. Next, let's
thank Mr. Ryan Guzman for looking at his character's scene notes, apparently rolling his eyes, and deciding to take matters into his own hands. Look, I'm not trying to say the rest of the 118 doesn't look devastated, but Eddie looks like he's about to start bawling on the floor and that's the real reason he grabbed Chim. I'll come back to this but his moments sure don't hit like pure platonic concern, there is some real desperation there. Also not to bring up KR rambling but lady if you were so surprised by Ryan's performance and didn't want it to come across like THAT, aren't you in charge? Couldn't you make the call and say "I need you to give me less"?? Anyway, the parallels between this and Eddie's shooting are ridiculous, so I also gave to think if this isn't going somewhere what the fuck is the point?? Why go through all this trouble to make it so obvious and heartfelt and hurt so much if it just goes back to business as usual?? That more than anything would piss me off. Yes, let Buck learn a thing or two about his own worth (we've only been waiting SEASONS for it), but also can we stop pretending putting these two specific characters in these life and death scenarios where they have to watch the other dying and their whole world looks like it's coming apart doesn't mean anything?? Finally (for now) here's what I'd like to see next episode. We know Buck is going to see the people he loves but not in the way he knows he knows them. So I'd love to be what prompts him to wake is seeing Chris. But not just any version of him. This Chris is an orphan, his mom died and there wasn't anyone to save his Dad from getting shot. He lives with his grandparents (pre Ramon reckoning), he had to go to them since there was no other parent in Eddie's life to take care of him. So this bright, brave kid is now sad and scared of the world, and Buck knows its wrong. I'll leave you with this mess of thoughts 😭.
Hello friend! We had people over this evening so I'm trying to get this done before I get to bed because I really do need to clear out my inbox (RIP to everyone who came to be salty with me and KR's interviews because we immediately got sneak peeks and poker stills and DO MORE, and my brain went offline).
Seriously, I don't know who started slipping the promo team cocaine but damn. Let us REST for a second! Between them and the fandom coming out in FORCE to wreck us or be horny on main, it's A Lot and I need sleep!
Ryan is out here giving us The Most and KR acting *shocked pikachu* about it just shows how much she sleeps on Ryan as an actor and Eddie as a character.I rewatched 6x10 and like, I know he's got a lot next episode but for a premier maybe we could have checked in with him and Chris since we checked in with literally everyone else at their homes? I'm trying not to be too negative because after s5 and 6a, this is THEE most excited I've been in awhile and I really do think the show is at least trying to course correct after....whatever TF 6a was and the weirdness of s5.
And the stuff with Eddie, it's like, you're right they COULD tell him to do less! They could say "this is what we're looking for" or at least "this is what we're NOT looking for" but clearly his actions were signed off on and made it to air knowing full well what people would see when they watched it. And what you see is a man desperately broken by the possibility of losing his partner. Which is GREAT if the show is working on a s7 Buddie reveal plan (I'm with @outrunningthedark I don't think they want to overshadow the Madney moment coming up which is fine), but it's....disappointing when there is so much good stuff going on right now and all KR wants to talk about is how much fun they had forcing Eddie "they're not really my type" Diaz to casually date randos because that's something he's ever been interested in doing. He really seems like a guy that enjoys wasting his limited free time meeting lots of new people only interested in getting into his pants instead of taking care of his partner who literally died for several minutes, and doing things with his son. Sure Jan. FFS, read the room! Or read the character profile before you start throwing storylines at the wall to see what sticks (lookin' at you sperm donor plot that is apparently giving Nothing). Yeah, yeah, managing expectations with a showrunner like her is good, but it's also a lot of whiplash right now between what we're seeing on our screens and what she's trying to TELL us we're seeing on our screens. I'm just so sick of them giving what should be THEE moment for Buddie only to follow it up by shoving some woman between them like "oh, nothing to see here!" Give me a break. And then what are they going to do for the actual reveal? How are they going to raise the stakes AGAIN? How are they going to be like, "yeah this is the 5th time one of us has almost died, but THIS time it's allowed to be an "Oh" moment for us because TPTB finally signed off on it!" 🙄🙄🙄 On the bright side, the Buddie of it all has kept the show trending off an on for almost two weeks and will certainly continue through next week so at least whoever is paying attention to that stuff and saw how dead everything was after the finale has some comparison to work with!
ANYWAY
Sad an lonely Chris would be HEARTBREAKING and my heart couldn't take it! 😭😭😭 That boy deserves ONLY good things! I will say I am a little...not mad but I am certainly side-eyeing this coma storyline seeming to be about how Buck's work as a firefighter is what changed everyone's lives because like, YES him being at the 118 changed everything for everyone, but also this is the guy who panic-sued the department to get back to work because he felt worthless if he wasn't doing his job. Which we then found out stemmed from childhood trauma and neglect, but right now, for where he's at, he's not questioning his choice of job so he doesn't need a push like Eddie to come back to where he belongs. And he's already wrapped up in a storyline that SHOULD be about him giving up parts and pieces of himself to make other's happy at cost to his own happiness (though right now we don't know WHAT it's suppose to be about since he's not going to struggle with walking away per Oliver and he's not learning anything so what's the point?). So how is better for him to be facing a life where Daniel lived and he's loved and happy (which is what they've been making it sound like) but everyone at the 118 is a mess without him, proving that it's better for everyone ELSE if he sacrifices everything and doesn't get the happy life he always dreamed of? Like I'm not trying to be negative and I'm still REALLY excited about the episode (as you can see from my unhinged posting this week) and I just KNOW everyone's performances are going to slay us, and this storyline might go differently than I'm expecting and be something really great! But I'm just...getting my side-eyes out because if KR has proved anything it's that she can't plan a fucking arc for shit, and she lacks a basic understanding of the trauma and driving forces behind the characters.
Final note because I didn't want to end on that one, I think everyone in the firefam deserves an Emmy for what they're going to give us and I am READY for their reactions to rip my heart out and stomp on it. It is TIME Buck wakes up with his REAL family around his bed and knows how very much he is loved for just being Buck and how hard they fought to bring him back to them, because he's their family and they CHOOSE him. Buck is always the one being left, but he's going to wake up and hear how everyone he loves begged him to stay with them. It's going to be *delicious*

“Don’t worry about it, Buckley, you don’t have to get it. That’s why you have me to tell you what’s right and what’s wrong.”
Buck felt embarrassed but also a great amount of relief that Eddie was willing to be so patient with him, to explain things to him when he was too dumb to get it for himself.
Ooo you have set this up perfectly for Eddie to mold Buck into his perfect submissive little boy. Like the more comfortable Buck gets the smaller and “dumber” he gets and just gives more and more control up to Eddie because obviously Eddie knows best for him. He’s daddy after all. The latest chapter was amazing and I can only imagine their play time becoming more and more now with Eddie rightfully guiding and molding his baby boy as he sees fit. I was curious after that other post when you said you new exactly how you wanted Eddie to introduce diapers into the mix and I admit i was curious to see how you’d manage to get buck to agree to it but this right here answered my question. Perfect set up for Daddy does know best and Bucks learning and accepting that. (Though Bobby seems to be doing a little 👀 so I’m curious how Eddie gets him to back off them)
I am curious though because I think it was back in chapter 1 or 2 when Eddie was musing to himself about also turning Buck into his perfect little submissive house wife on top of being his good little boy. Even thought about buying him the frilly apron. Are we going to see more of that aspect too? I can only imagine the blush on Bucks face as Eddie coos and treats him like such a good little wife. Dinners on the table. Greeting kisses when Eddie gets home. The delighted joy Eddie would probably get from seeing buck all embarrassed and shy and confused but just going along with it because again it’s Eddie. Not to mention I can picture your amazing version of dark Eddie wanting that control over adult Buck just like the other aspects of Buck. Either way keep up the great work and can’t wait to see what happens next!
Right?? Isn't that perfect! The dumbification of Buck is definitely well on its way now and it's definitely laying the groundwork for Eddie to be able to get Buck to do whatever he wants and, um, also totally thought I responded to this but apparently, I keep starting to respond to things, and then they end up in my drafts and I forget about them lol
As for Buck becoming Eddie's sub, I think it's only natural that Buck would fill the roles of mother and wife for the Diaz boys, so it's likely we will see him playing that perfect housewife role for Eddie
I'm like obsessed with the idea of Buck feeling like flustered about it but not questioning it, letting Eddie treat him like his trophy wife and show him off. He cooks and cleans like the perfect housewife, and if it were up to Eddie, he would probably make Buck a stay-at-home mom lol
But seriously, Eddie would one hundred percent want to control every part of Buck's life! He definitely will not be satisfied just having control over their play and will push for control over everything. He wants to be the one making the decisions, he wants Buck to have a thought and turn to Eddie to find out if it's true or not, right or not, allowed or not. Like what Eddie wants is very extreme and he's definitely not gonna get everything he wants cuz Buck would never give up being a firerfighter, not even for Eddie, but he's gonna get something real close
Also Buck loves to be praised and loves to please Eddie, but he hates disappointing him because it triggers his fear that if he's not good enough Eddie will leave him. So I think all it would take is like one off hand comment from Eddie about the house being a mess or Buck being lazy for Buck to feel the need to prove himself by cleaning house or something lol
Honestly, i think Buck feeling a need to prove himself to Eddie will be a reoccurring theme, cuz i feel like Buck would feel the need to constantly prove he's good, to prove that he can take anything Eddie gives, that he won't ever back down. Like if Eddie wanted to torture his nipples until he was sobbing through an orgasm or something that Buck wouldn't really enjoy but he'd totally let Eddie do to him anyway, it would almost be a challenge, something Buck would probably view as something to overcome and endure just to please his daddy
So yeah, I imagine we will see some sub Buck! I also definitely want Eddie to get Buck a frilly apron at some point!

Halloween Surprises
This work is also on https://archiveofourown.org/works/42767715
“Are you sure you want to go alone?" asks Eddie, trying to pretend that he doesn't really care that Buck and Christopher want to go out without him. The two of them stand in the driveway, getting ready to go to the mall.
“We're not actually going alone" Chris says with a smile "We're going with each other.”
“Really funny" Eddie says, trying to feign anger when he actually thinks it was a good joke.
“Wow, you definitely inherited your dad's humor" Buck comments, approaching Eddie. "We promise we'll be back soon, okay?" he says, putting a hand on his shoulder and looking him straight in the eye. And at that moment Eddie could swear that they are about to kiss, to tell each other all the love they share and promise each other a quiet night full of love. But he would need to confess his feelings for that to happen.
“What am I supposed to do while you two are gone?" he is surprised to hear himself ask that question out loud.
“I don't know" Buck replied.
“You could start playing Guardians of the Galaxy" Chris says with a half-smile. "Buck bought it for us last week.”
“And no one said anything to me?" he says in an fake offended tone.
“I forgot," Buck admits with a shrug.
“I didn't want you to keep the game for yourself" Chris says, "All of us know you're in love with Star-Lord.”
“What? Of course not!" Eddie says with a slight blush on his cheeks. He hates feeling exposed, plus he hasn't officially told anyone about his attraction to men, that he is exclusively attracted to men. And at least for the moment, not just any man, but the perfect blond in front of him.
“You definitely are" they both say as if it were the most common thing in the universe.
“Okay, maybe I'm a little bit in love with Star-Lord" he says, his face completely red "but that doesn't mean anything.”
“Dad, if you were my age, you'd have your room full of Peter Quill posters in all his version," Chris says mockingly, and he knows he's doing it to annoy him, but Eddie is more annoyed by the fact that it's true.
“Now I wonder, what kind of  posters did you have in your room when you were a teenager?" Buck interjects.
“I won't say a thing.”
“Come on, it's not that serious!”
“Exactly" Chris says, "It's like the crush Buck has with D'Arcy Carden.”
“What? No!" says Buck, suddenly nervous.
“Buck, you've made us watch The Good Place four times this year.”
“It's a great show!”
“But your ears are red, you are blushing too, you're no better than me," Buck opens his mouth to answer but can't seem to think of anything.
“Buck also has a crush on Oscar Isaac” And if Buck couldn't say anything before, now he seems to have become mute. His face is totally red and he looks down.
“That's why we've seen Moon Knight three times" Eddie says in surprise, but the surprise soon becomes greater when he realizes what his son has just confessed.
“I told you that in confidence, Christopher Díaz" Buck says, trying to sound like the telenovelas they watch at Abuela’s house.
“So it's true" Eddie teases him.
“What can I say, I have a weakness for Latino men" Buck replies, even redder than before but trying to sound seductive, and Eddie feels like he's about to have a heart attack.
“Yes, you do" Chris mutters, and Eddie feels more nervous and confused. Does that mean what he thinks it means? “Can we go, Buck?
“Please, before you tell your dad about the other crush I have.”
“There's more?" Eddie jokes, but his heart makes him wish he is the other crush.
“We should go" says Buck, leaving the house with Chris, "We'll be back by dinner time" and with that they disappear from sight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next two and a half hours are quite curious. Eddie listens to Christoper and starts playing Guardians of the Galaxy and although he feels a little uncomfortable at first because of how weird the Playstation 5 controls move, he soon starts to feel more comfortable and immersed in the game.
The story is quite entertaining, the gameplay is fun and being able to see and control Star-Lord makes him realize how much he likes a fictional character
He had never allowed himself to have feelings for a non-existent character, but the truth is that, although he is ashamed to admit it to other people, he doesn't feel as pathetic as he might have felt years ago.
Years when he couldn't even admit to being madly in love with Buck.
When he gets tired of playing, he decides to put on some music, tidy up the house, make his bed, wash the dishes, do everything he can to avoid feeling lonely.
He knows it's not the worst of feelings to have, but ever since he could admit to himself how he feels about Buck, he's felt strange about spending time away from him.
When he's done with everything, he has nothing left to do but sit back down on the couch and turn on the TV, there's nothing that interests him enough, so he keeps flipping channels.
Before he can think of another activity, the door of his house opens and his two favorite people in the world walk in. His son has a smile on his face, Buck also looks happy but a little tired from the two bags in his hands.
“Do you need help?" he says, standing up without waiting for an answer.
“Please" Eddie takes the two bags and carries them into the kitchen "I brought everything to make hamburgers" Buck tells him as they begin to take the ingredients out of the bags.
“How was your trip to the mall?" Eddie asks as he chops the lettuce and watches out of the corner of his eye as Buck takes the meat out of its packaging and turns on the stove.
“Very good, actually, we found everything we needed.”
“Are you going to tell me why you are going out so much to buy things?” Buck seems to freeze for a few seconds, as if his answer means something of life and death.
“It's a surprise!" Chris shouts from the living room. Buck laughs and Eddie joins in, sometimes they forget that his son is always listening.
“Can you at least tell me what kind of surprise it is?" he murmurs, making sure his son doesn't hear them.
“I'll just let you know that we're preparing Chris' Halloween costume, but it's a surprise" he says quietly with a smile and looking him in the eye.
“Unbelievable, Buck, I knew you wouldn’t resist if Dad asked" the boy's voice made them both jump.
“I'm sorry, Superman" Buck says, his face embarrassed.
“I knew it would happen" says the boy in a neutral tone, "I just hope you don't reveal everything to him. It's a surprise" he says, finally returning to the living room.
“Wow, he can be just as strict as you are" Buck jokes.
“I heard that!" Chris shouts to them from the living room, and they both laugh and start preparing dinner.
The days go by too fast and before Eddie can realize it, it's Halloween.
The three of them are sitting in the living room, having just finished eating pizza and watching an episode of Moon Knight. Chris and Eddie didn't miss every possible opportunity to tease Buck about the crush he has on Oscar Isaac and although at times Eddie felt jealous, it was a lot more fun than he expected.
Eddie mentally thanks Buck for convincing him to ask for the day off so they could both be with Chris on Halloween and although Bobby didn't make it as easy as they had hoped, it was definitely worth it.
Buck stayed over and made them waffles for breakfast, they played video games, went to the mall for ice cream and to buy some candy in case the ones they have at home weren't enough.
“So" Eddie begins, turning off the TV, and they both look him in the eye, "What's our trick-or-treating plan? But at that moment Buck and Christopher share a nervous look.
“About that" Buck says.
“Promise me you won’t get angry" Chris adds, and Eddie feels a little scared.
“You don't you want me to go trick-or-treating with you?" Eddie asks them, looking at the floor, not feeling emotionally prepared for such a rejection.
“No! Quite the contrary!" Buck says to him, perhaps a little too desperately.
“Disguise it a little, Buck” Chris mutters but Eddie decides to ignore the comment, it's not the kind of explanation he's looking for right now.
“So what's going on?”
“We're leaving now" Buck finally says.
“What? Why?”
“We should go get dressed up" Chris says happily, but Buck gives him a slightly uneasy look, as if to say, You said too much.
“Are you also dressing up for Halloween?" Eddie asks, puzzled. And by the look on his best friend's face, he knows that's what he wanted to keep Eddie from knowing, which doesn't bother him, it just makes him more confused and intrigued.
“Maybe" he says with a playful tone, "It's all a mystery.”
“Yes he will" Chris says with a mischievous laugh, "But it's a surprise.”
“Okay, I won't ask any more questions" Eddie gives up, "But..." Eddie knows it's a stupid question, but he can't help but ask, "Do you want me to go trick-or-treating with you?”
“Of course we do" Buck replied, slightly offended. “The surprise is for you” And at that moment Eddie feels a warmth in his stomach and in his cheeks,he actually feels kind of silly, he hadn't considered that part, he was too focused on the loneliness he would feel when the two of them went to Buck's apartment.
“Ok, I hope my surprise is worth being left alone again" he says, in a playful tone, but by the look they both give him, they both know he's telling the truth in a joking tone.
“See you later, Dad" Chris says, hugging him and then heading for the door.
“I promise you the surprise will be worth it" Buck says with a smile, "I'll see you in a few hours.”
“See you in a few hours.”
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Christopher and Buck left, Eddie didn't quite know what to do with himself. He cleaned the house, rearranged his room, put on some laundry, set out the candy in case some kids came trick-or-treating early, and spent three minutes tempted to call Buck to see how the costumes were coming along, but he didn't do it.
And all that only spent 40 minutes of the maybe two hours he will be alone.
He doesn't quite know what to do with his time, so he decides to start watching one of The Simpsons Halloween specials.
He recalls when he confessed to Buck a few years ago that he had never seen an episode of the series. Buck's surprise and displeasure were more dramatic than he expected.
That Friday, and taking advantage of the fact that Christopher was going to a sleepover with Denny, Buck forced him to watch a marathon of his favorite episodes. That was a perfect night, they drank beer, laughed a lot and Eddie began to feel that he knew a little more about Buck, that he was closer to him.
Plus he realized that Evan Buckley knows the dialogue of all the Simpsons episodes by heart. Or at least of the ten they watched that day.
After finishing that chapter and wondering what he would do if he found out one day that he had an evil twin brother, he decides to start playing Guardians of the Galaxy again. And he'll never admit out loud that he's thrilled to not only control Peter Quill, but also to have found a special suit that leaves Star-Lord's awesome butt for no imagination.
Nor will he admit that he had to restart the game three times because he was too distracted.
To his surprise, the doorbell rings more times than he expected. The children thank him and smile as he hands them the chocolate bars Buck picked out, they were his favorites when he was a kid. And by the five that are missing from the bag, he knows they are still his favorites.
He starts imagining what costumes Christopher and Buck will wear. Maybe Chris will arrive as a teacher or a doctor? Or maybe Buck got him a fireman's outfit!
In Buck's case, he doesn't quite know what to imagine. But his brain is wicked enough to give him images of Buck the architect without a shirt, Buck the soccer player without a shirt, Buck the sexy scientist without a shirt and a white coat. And of Buck sexy fireman without a shirt.
He laughs at his own bad joke because he knows Buck is the most handsome and sexy firefighter he's ever seen in his life. But he's also the most special, thoughtful, funny and kind man he's ever met as well.
Sometimes he wishes he could tell him everything he feels, but his fear of ruin everything is always bigger.
The doorbell sounds again and Eddie finally decides to turn off the console, it seems there will no longer be a moment of peace to play quietly.
The doorbell rings three more times and Eddie hurries to grab the bowl of chocolate bars and open the door, not wanting his house to end up full of rotten eggs and toilet paper like his first year in Los Angeles.
“I am Groot" the boy tells him just as he opens the door and finds one of the best costumes he's ever seen. A quite realistic mask of Groot, the fabric of the costume looks like actual wood and even has some branches and leaves, he wonders if they are made of plastic. The boy is holding a Rocket plush in one of his hands and it is not until he pays attention to the hands and notices the crutches that also look like logs that he realizes that this boy is his son. “Do you like my costume dad?” Christopher asks him, before he can utter a word.
”Like it? I love it" he replies, just as excited, "It's perfect!”
“And you haven't seen your surprise yet" the boy says with a smile, and at that moment he realizes that Buck is nowhere to be seen.
“Where's Buck?" Eddie ask, investigating the surroundings but all he can see is his truck, Buck's Jeep out front and the kids already trick-or-treating.
“Now Buck!" the boy shouts in the direction of the Jeep, his son smiles and at that moment he can see Buck coming out from behind the Jeep.
“Oh my God" he says and without realizing it, he starts walking in Buck's direction, because now he's not only his best friend, he's also dressed in an exact replica of Star-Lord.
The gray T-shirt, the black pants, the cherry leather shirt, he can see a replica of the guns on his waist and in one of his hands he has a helmet almost identical to the one in the video game. He is dying to kiss him.
When he's close enough he doesn't know what to do, Buck looks down, he seems nervous. But after a few seconds, he turns his eyes directly to him and gives him one of his best smiles.
“Hi" Buck says in a tone a little lower than normal.
“Hi” He answers as best he can, he feels that his brain will stop working soon, he hears Chris's footsteps approaching.
“What do you say, Dad?," he asks in the most accusing tone possible, "Buck went to a lot of trouble to make his costume look perfect.”
“Your costume is perfect, too," Buck defends himself.
“Yes, but we spent more time looking for everything for your costume" confesses the boy, "You wanted to surprise dad.”
“I..." says Buck, his cheeks red.
“Well, he did it," Eddie replied a little more confidently, "I'm speechless.”
“Was it a good surprise?" Buck asks, raising his eyebrows a bit and running his hand through his hair, trying to arrange his hairstyle even more.
“The best one" he says, without a second's hesitation.
“Enough to earn two chocolates?" Chris tells him and Eddie can't help but laugh.
“Of course, you earned two chocolates” Eddie gives them the candy and Chris keeps it in Rocket, it's the moment Eddie realizes it's a backpack for all his candy, instead of the traditional pumpkin.
“Buck thought of everything," Chris tells him as if reading his thoughts.
“I realize now, he's excellent at these things.
“I always loved Halloween," says the blond with a smile.
“Dad," Chris says suddenly, with a curious seriousness, "Do you like Buck?" Eddie feels his heart race and can see how Buck looks at Christopher accusing him of betrayal "I mean, do you like his costume" the boy corrects himself, but by the laugh he lets out at the end, it seems that it was not a mistake.
“Which Buck? I only see Star-Lord," Eddie replies, relaxing a bit.
“Should we go trick-or-treating?" Buck asks them. Eddie goes back inside to drop off the candy and grab the house keys. Soon, they are running through the streets with Christopher guiding and hurrying them to get as much candy as possible.
Eddie feels strange, frustrated. Because he can't take his eyes off Buck, it's as if suddenly two of his fantasies are merging together.
Chris goes ahead to ring the doorbell of a house and they hang back, they haven't talked since they left.
“You didn't think of making me a costume too?" asks Eddie with that doubt suddenly in his mind.
“I thought about it" Buck admits, "But we wanted to give you a total surprise and dressing up together would have ruined it" he confesses.
“It sounds logical," he says with a smile, "You really look good today," he doesn't even know what it was that got hold of him to say it that way, in such a seductive way, or at least as close to that way as possible.
“Thank you," Buck looks down again and gives a half-smile, "I've never dressed up to surprise someone before.”
“Well, I'm glad this first time went well," Christopher returns with a big smile.
“They gave me three chocolates for my great costume!" he tells them and Eddie can't help but feel butterflies in his stomach, no one has ever bothered to make such a costume for his son before, but that's Buck. And that only makes him feel more in love with him.
And it definitely has nothing to do with the fact that he's disguised as Star-Lord.
“Congratulations, Superman" Buck tells him.
“I am Groot," says the boy jokingly, the three of them laugh and start walking to the next house.
“Congratulations, Groot" the blond corrects himself. Chris goes forward again, there is already a group of children waiting to receive candy, maybe it will take a little longer in this house.
“What were your options?”
“Huh?" Buck replies, making a confused face.”
“For my costume, you probably had options.”
“Of course not.”
“You are Buck.”
“Okay" he says "The first choice was a luchador.”
“Wow, that could be racist," Eddie jokes.
“I don't think there's anything racist about watching you walk around shirtless while trick-or-treating" he says in a tone that is truly seductive, and he feels his legs lose a little strength and his mind wanders elsewhere. Did Buck really just tell him he wanted to see him shirtless?
“I would never have agreed to that costume" he says finally, when he can't find the words to flirt with Buck.
“Chris said the same thing," Buck replied, "And I wont tell you my other option”
“Come on! It can't be worse than a luchador" Eddie tells him.
“Promise me you won't laugh.”
“I promise." He tries to make his voice sound as serious as possible.
“Moon Knight" Buck says and Eddie definitely senses that there is more than just a coincidence in his response.
But before Eddie can finish his sentence, two women approach them, one slightly trailing behind, but the other one walks right up to Buck. He tries to avoid feeling annoyed but it's almost impossible because that woman is dressed as Gamora.
“Hi, Peter Quill," says the woman in a seductive tone and at that moment Eddie really feels angry. Buck tries to move away but the woman comes closer.
“Can we help you?" Eddie says in a more threatening tone than he expected to come out.
“I'm talking to him," says the woman, angry. Buck seems to be in shock, he seems to be trying to say something but nothing comes out of his mouth. All he can do is move closer to Eddie and Eddie puts a hand on his shoulder.
The woman glares at Eddie's hand and places one of her hands on Buck's chest.
“Emily, we have to go," says the other woman who is dressed as a nurse, her face and voice seem embarrassed.
“Hayley, I'm busy," Emily says in the same angry tone. She returns her attention to Buck and starts to move her hand gently on his chest, "How about you leave your friend here and show me what you can do" Eddie feels the blood boiling in his head, he has never felt so angry to see someone flirting with Buck.
“Um... -That's the only thing that can come out of Buck's mouth, he seems to be trying to defend himself but he can't say a single word.
“Dads” Suddenly Chris' voice comes to them, he seems to be completely unaware of the situation that is happening and Eddie feels so angry that he didn't even have a chance to get excited about how he referred to them “They gave me some of your favorite cookies and several kids complimented me on my costume!” Chris' happiness disappears when he realizes the presence of Gamora with her hand on Buck's chest, "What's going on, Dads?" he says the last word with great emphasis.
“Nothing" says Buck finally pulling away from Emily and stepping to the other side of Eddie and taking Chris' hand.
“This woman was congratulating your dad on his costume" Eddie says, playing along with Chris, trying to sound as calm as possible but still sounding angry, "But she was just leaving, wasn't she?" He also sounds much more threatening than he'd like and can see Buck and Chris share a concerned look.
“I'm so sorry," Hayley says suddenly, reaching over and grabbing her friend by the shoulders "You have a beautiful family" she says, pulling Emily away who seems to be trying to process what just happened, "And your costumes are wonderful" she tells them as they both walk away.
“What just happened?" Buck asks nervously and looks at Eddie as if hoping he's not angry.
“A woman just flirted with you," Eddie says and hates to sound annoyed, but he can't help but feel that way. It's not the first time a woman has deliberately flirted with Buck, but it is the first time a woman has done so when Buck is dressed as Star-Lord, a costume he made just for him.
“And it looked like dad wanted to kill her," says Chris, in a mocking tone, "So I came as fast as I could....”
“Thanks, Chris," says Buck, still embarrassed, "I don't know what happened me, I just froze.”
“That woman was a little invasive," Eddie says, trying to hide his annoyance by looking at his feet.
“Wait" Buck says, approaching Eddie and putting his hand out just as Emily did with him "I'm sorry.”
“Why?" he asks confused.
“I don't know, I feel like I have to apologize to you" Buck admits, "I didn't mean for this to happen.”
“You don't have to apologize," he says, this time without a trace of anger in his voice "You actually look quite handsome," Buck smiles at him, his cheeks flushed again and Eddie is dying to kiss him one more time.
“You know" Chris interrupts them, "You should hold hands so that it doesn't happen again" he says with a slightly mischievous smile.
“What!?" says Buck, sounding scared.
“He's right," Eddie says, moving closer to Buck, "I don't want that to happen again" Eddie takes his hand and thinks about making a joke about how cold it is, but he prefers not to, seeing the surprised look on Buck's face, maybe it's not something he wants to do "Unless you're not comfortable..." he starts to let go of his hand a little.
“No!" says Buck, perhaps too quickly, grabbing Eddie's hand again.
“You don't feel comfortable or you don't want to let go of my dad's hand?" Chris says, this time with a totally mischievous smile.
“Mijo, this is not the time," Eddie scolds him, but Chris just laughs.
“Come on, I still need to get more candy!”
The next part of the night goes much more smoothly than the beginning. Chris is still trick-or-treating, he gets quite a few for his costume even his Rocket backpack is starting to look a bit too full.
Buck and Chris get compliments on their costumes and get some stares for holding hands, but Eddie decides not to worry about it and just enjoy the moment.  Although a part of his mind reminds him that this could all be real if he had the guts to come clean about how he feels.
Then a funny thing happens. A boy dressed as Captain America asks Buck and Chris for a picture together. The boy is accompanied by his moms who politely greet them and take some pictures. Before leaving, the kid told Buck that he should be the real Star-Lord, Buck thanked him and with one of his charming laughs told him that he didn't know anything acting but he would like the fame.
All the way home Eddie began to realize that maybe he wasn't in love with Star-Lord. Well, maybe he just has a type of guy he falls in love with, because, Peter Quill is basically Buck in space.
How could he have been so blind not to notice? Although it took him too long to realize that what he felt for his best friend wasn't just friendship.
And if Buck wanted him to dress up as Moon Knight, could that mean...?
He pushes those thoughts out of his mind because they are about to get home. Eddie inspects carefully and is reassured to see that there are no rotten eggs or toilet paper decorating his house.
The three enter quietly, Chris hurries to sit on the couch and leaves Rocket's backpack on the coffee table, he starts pulling out all the candy to separate his favorites and leave the leftovers for Eddie and Buck.
“Did you like this year's Halloween?" Eddie asks.
“It was the best!" says his son, excited and very focused on all the sweets. Buck gives him a smile and leads him into the kitchen.
“Are you staying for dinner?”
“You're asking me or Star-Lord?" Buck jokes, scratching the back of his neck.
“Today you are the same person," Eddie says with a smile and pulls two frozen lasagnas out of the refrigerator, "It won't be as special as your lasagna but...”
“It’s better than you try to indigest us with your cooking" Buck says and they can hear Chris laughing from the living room. "I can cook anything you guys want tomorrow" he says loud enough for Chris to hear, but the boy doesn't say anything back.
“How many candies do you think Chris got?" asks Eddie when the lasagnas are already in the oven and they are facing each other.
“Enough to have too much energy for six months" they both laugh and remain silent. Part of Eddie wants to talk about what happened with Emily but he doesn't want to make Buck feel guilty again. But he doesn't know how to start talking, so he uses the only solution he knows when it comes to Buck. “You want a beer?”
“Maybe later" Buck replies, and there goes his whole plan to try to relax and talk about what they haven't been able to talk about for years "I want to do this as less drunk as possible.”
“Do what?" asks Eddie.
“You know I dressed up as Star-Lord for you, right? Buck averts his gaze for a few seconds, but then seems to force himself to look at him again.
“Really?" Eddie replies in the most sarcastic tone possible, Buck gives him a coy smile "I know.”
“And do you know what it means?" Buck asks. And Eddie knows what he wants it to mean, but he doesn't know if he should confess his feelings and feel stupid when he gets rejected.
“Tell us what it means" Chris shouts from the living room.
“Christopher" Eddie shouts back, Buck's seriousness disappears for a few seconds, he tries to hold in his laughter "Go to your room!”
“When I finish separating the candy," the boy replies. They both look at each other and start laughing.
“I like you," Buck confesses in a whisper as if they were the easiest words to say, as if Eddie isn't fighting all his instincts not to tell him the same thing since they met.
“Do you like me as best friends" Eddie asks hesitantly, "or do you like me like me" he says, just as Christopher does to make sure of things.
“I like you like you" Buck says, his eyes on his feet and his hand scratching the back of his neck, "I didn't know how to tell you.”
“So you decided to dress up as Peter Quill?”
“Actually, that was Chris's idea.”
“Really?" asks Eddie, genuinely surprised.
“Remember three months ago when I took him to the zoo?”
“The day it was raining?”
“Yeah that day" Buck confirms, "I was waiting in the Jeep and after you helped him in and we said goodbye Chris said You like Dad it wasn't even a question," Buck tells him with surprise "Then he told me it was obvious you liked him too but I could not believe him" Eddie gives him a half smile, "Then he suggested I could dress up as Star-Lord and check it out by your reaction.”
“And you just accepted?" asks Eddie.
“Well, you made us watch both Guardians of the Galaxy movies 16 times this year and you kept talking about the comic book collection Chris and I got you for your birthday, it seemed logical." Eddie blushes, maybe he wasn't being as subtle as he thought he was.
“So" Eddie begins, "I like you," he says, trying to be as firm as possible, finally allowing himself to say those words.
“And I like you," Buck says with a smile. Neither of them seems to know quite what to do next, they look at each other for what could be an eternity, but it can't be more than three seconds.
“It's clear that you like each other," Christopher shouts from the living room, "I don't know how it took you so many years to admit it!
“Chris, go to your room," Eddie replies, not feeling angry, just a little exposed. His son doesn't answer anything, but they can hear the door to his room close. They both laugh softly. “I can't believe we're finally confessing that like each other in that way and Christopher heard the whole thing," Eddie says, still chuckling.
“Neither did I." Admits Buck "Although he´s been a great help, I was finally able to hold your hand.”
“Is that all you want to do?” Eddie approaches, this time the two of them are facing each other.“Or maybe Star-Lord wants to kiss me too? Eddie feels silly as the words come out of his mouth, but Buck seems excited, his eyes light up.
“He'd be a fool to say no." Buck moves in slowly, Eddie can smell his lotion even better, they are both nervous. Eddie feels like a teenager again who has never kissed before, and by the look on Buck's face he feels the same way.
Buck puts his hand on Eddie's cheek and kisses him. It is just as he expected, the brush of their lips is full of tenderness and passion. Eddie puts his hands on Buck's neck and Buck moves his hands to his waist.
He doesn't know how long they last like this, but they both feel hungry for each other.
The oven's bell startles them and they finally stop kissing. They look into each other's eyes and smile.
“You're a better kisser than I expected" Buck says, still not letting go.
“I don't know if that's a compliment or an insult" Eddie replies with a smile.
“I'm happy that my plan worked" says Christopher at the entrance to the kitchen.
“How long have you been there?" Buck says, embarrassed.
“Since Peter Quill wants to kiss me" He says trying to do the deep voice like Eddie and laughing afterwards.
“Don't make fun of your father" Buck says, laughing a little, too, "I thought it was cute”
“So when are you moving in, Buck?" Chris asks, and this time he doesn't seem to be joking.
“Wow, it's still too early for that" says Buck, scared, "I don't want your dad to feel rushed.”
“Buck, you practically live here," Chris says, "I don't think Dad feels rushed.”
“Will you two stop talking about me like I'm not here" Eddie says, "It's not time to talk about moving yet" they both look at him "But date night on Saturday?!
“Deal" says Buck.
“Are you at least boyfriends?" asks Chris and Eddie feels anxious, in his mind they are something more serious than boyfriends but he likes the title, but they haven't gotten to that part of their conversation yet.
“Of course we are" Buck says and all his anxiety disappears, "Don't you think?” Bucks looks at Eddie.
“Yeah, we're boyfriends now" he can't help but smile when he says it, "Now Chris go change for dinner.”
“But I want to use my costume on dinner" the boy protests.
“Okay, but at least take off your mask and go wash your hands.”
“Ok" says Chris a little more animated.
“You want me to take off my costume too?" Buck says when he's sure Chris is far away.
“No, I need you to keep wearing it while we kiss later" Eddie tells him with a smile.
“Maybe next year you could dress up as Moon Knight and fulfill my fantasy," Buck says in a low, seductive tone.
“Why would we have to wait until next year?" he replies and can see the surprise, excitement and mischief pass across Buck's face.
And Eddie, with a smile on his lips, kisses him once again.

I know I’m jumping a few steps ahead but if you could guess or wish, how do you think Eddie and Buck’s wardrobe will change (if at all) when they start dating? Do you think it’ll be the same? Or maybe Eddie starts to wear the same kind of clothes he always wears but more color? Maybe Buck’s style changes ever so slightly? Thoughts? Do you think their fashion/style would change at all when they start dating or stay the same? Is this a silly question?
Hey Nonnie
So we are seeing Eddies wardrobe already changing as he unrepresses himself and deals with his trauma - he is already moving in to these blue and blue green shades which he hasn't before and I'm expecting that to continue - more blues and more greens - but more rich dark greens, not the olive drab and army greens we're so used to seeing him in. Whether we'll see more colour beyond that - we might!
Eddie has been a really interesting study clothes wise - whenever he's going through any sort of mental crisis etc we tend to see him revert to the army colours or, at times such as at Christmas in s5 we see him go to richer colours but still in his wheelhouse, so we got a navy spotted shirt and that rich orangey tan jacket.
They did have Eddie in red in season 2, so we know he can pull of colour and there is a part of me that would love to see Eddie in love gain even more colour in his wardrobe, but if we do, I think it will be sporadic and not something we see often. Basically I think we will see increasing amounts of richer toned colours and less and less army greens and tans for him but I can't see them suddenly dressing him in really bright colours such as pink or orange etc.
What I do expect to see with his wardrobe is it better fitted as he becomes more comfortable with himself - we've seen him very much in oversized clothing this season (apart from those semi transparent Henleys!!) which all helps to make him look unwell and unhappy, but as he heals we should see everything become better tailored and fitted - much more like a second skin. I think we will still see the Henleys - they are such a part of his look, that I can't see them disappearing from his wardrobe, but I do think we might begin to see more variation in his wardrobe - so more shirts and maybe even some pattern!! (and before you all start coming at me - not all pattern is bad!!)
As for Buck - I think we will continue to see the same style that we've seen him in this season, he really seems to be coming into his own style wise (and I really don't think they knew what to do with him in season 1 and partway through season 2) its like a more fashionable and fitted version of Bobby (which I have my own thoughts on and I might make a post bout in the hiatus!).
What I do expect to see is more colour - we've progressively got darker and darker this season - especially in his scenes with Taylor, and we're starting to see colour creep back into his wardrobe - such as the greys getting lighter around the Diaz boys and the yellow ochres are a running theme which we started the season with, but all but disappeared through the middle part and then we got the dark ochre on the jacket in Dumb Luck! We also have the dark pink corduroy coming up in the next two episodes (my money is on it being the break up outfit!!!) which is a parallel outfit with season 2. Colour wise I think we'll continue to go through some muddy and darker colours in the beginning of season 6 - as he works through his stuff , but then we'll get to see more pinks again and brighter blues, more yellows and yellow ochres and I think the burgundy/maroons will come back a bit as well. I do think we'll continue to see the greys as well!
The thing with all of this is that I don't have a clue what direction they will take Buck and Eddie in in season 6 - how easy Buddie is going to be to get to and the story's will very much dictate the clothing and colour choices - so don't be surprised if I've very wrong in all this speculating - it is very fun to do though!!

5x18 Ending Scene
So I found this ending scene interesting:
Tumblr media
This is after the frontal shot. Here you can see Ravi more towards the front as is Chim, behind Bobby. Buck has moved forward, past Eddie, and almost seems next to Lucy who is also next to Hen. Eddie is straggling behind. They're all running to their positions to get into the fire engine.
This is the front shot before it:
Tumblr media
Here, you can see Buck is actually looking at Eddie (while we were never shown where Buck was coming from like we did the others) and he gives a little smile (Oliver makes choices as does this show) even though Eddie isn't looking at him or saying anything. This is meant to show the 118 is back together and in sync butttt
When you watch the end of the scene, going back to the rear shot up above, after it, we see Chim and Hen get into the right truck (because now they are completely back in sync, which is also why on the front shot, they may not be walking together in order to give Bobby the foreground but they are maintaining the same stride; they kept the newbies on the outskirts but while Lucy is walking neck and neck with Hen, Ravi is still a bit behind Chim because he's still a probie; they purposely kept Buck and Eddie in the back maintaining the same stride; he only begins to move past Eddie once everyone else does, i.e. Chim and Hen) but everyone else heads to a different truck.
Then we see this:
Tumblr media
Buck and Lucy are neck and neck while Eddie is behind. (while Bobby and Ravi are up front) It's not exactly the same framing as the Buck/Taylor/Eddie deal but pretty close to it.
Then the next shot we get as the trucks pull out is this:
Tumblr media
That's Lucy and I'm thinking that's Ravi maybe? (especially since Chim and Hen supposedly got into a different truck and we know Bobby is in the captain's seat) We don't get to see who Lucy and Ravi are talking to but if we assume Hen and Chim are in a different truck (though tbf it looks like the same one) then it's got to be Buck or Eddie.
And considering the only times we've seen Eddie in that seat Lucy has is earlier in season 5 when he was teasing Buck and in season 2 (2x04) with Christopher, and we've seen Buck usually in that seat one way or another, plus Lucy and Eddie don't know each other that well yet, I'm going to say it's Buck. Which is on point if we go by the framing, that while Buck and Eddie are back together in action, and their friendship is solid, there's still something that's still throwing them off sync. It could be Eddie's absence, though from that front shot I tend to doubt it (plus look at how well they worked together at the dispatch center fire). Personally, I think it's because Eddie is now in a prime position to not only figure out what he wants in his life but also to go after it. He's in a good place right now and that shows, especially by him being back with the 118, even after showing up at Bobby's with the line of "Don't worry, I don't have any transfer requests in my hand." He did the work Bobby wanted him to do and it shows. He's doing better.
While Buck made a decision that was better for him (ending things with TK) and he's Buck 3.0 (or whatever version he is now), in a better head space as well, it still feels like he's not quite in the same place as Eddie. (which if you think about it is an odd choice for them not to show us where Buck was coming from) Buck is confident in who he is, knows what he wants, he's made a lot of progress, we've seen that. But we also see him being a bit OOC this season and we didn't get a view into him as much as we usually do. Some can blame the writing/planning of the season (I'm sure that contributed) but I think it's also purposeful. (why else cut out all of the supposed Lucy and Buck flirting scenes? It wasn't just to knock down Lucy's role and change the purpose of her character)
So here we are again, with Buck and Eddie back together, somewhat in sync but not completely 100%. Something is still off. Especially when looking at all of this and realizing that the show purposely had Chim and Hen get into a truck together and chose to keep that shot in that sequence. We didn't see anyone else get into the truck (which was odd, don't we usually see Chim and Hen get into the ambulance?), instead the rest of them walking past it, to emphasize the contrast in the two partnerships. They could have had Hen and Lucy get in. They could have shown Bobby rounding the truck to get in the captain's seat but they didn't. They purposely chose for that shot to happen and for the audience to see it. To have Buck running ahead but keeping stride with Lucy with Eddie lagging behind. That Bobby and Ravi basically all but disappear from view. They chose this angle for a reason.
Do I think this sets Lucy up as a love interest for Buck? No, I don't. For a few reasons. 1) They didn't lay enough of a romantic foundation between the two. Instead, they removed all of the flirting scenes, had a Taylor jealousy scene be about Taylor and Buck and not about Lucy, had Lucy write off the kiss as a drunken mistake to Jonah, and had it become a butt of a joke for the 118 to laugh at this episode. (which interestingly enough they chose to do without Eddie being present, just saying) 2) I have no idea if AK will be around next season, has that been confirmed? and 3) it would be weird for Buck to end the BT relationship which they built up at the end of season 4 only to dismantle it this season (after showing us all season how Taylor was trying hard to be what Buck needed but couldn't quite be) only to jump into another one and with a fellow firefighter in his unit no less. Also, I do believe Lucy was a stand-in for Eddie for Buck and now that Eddie is back, I see her being relegated to another member (if she sticks around) like Ravi. At best, maybe another friend for Buck. But that's basically it. I don't see them turning sexual either but even if that were to happen, the emotional foundation (for it to turn romantic) just isn't there and again, why go the same route he did with Taylor right before this? We all saw how that panned out, especially Buck.
Butttt while I think Buck and Lucy have settled into a comfortable camaraderie in the 118, it should be interesting to see how this newfound dynamic will impact Eddie and/or possibly his partnership/friendship with Buck. We saw Buck talking to Eddie all season about things that were for lack of better wording, affecting him emotionally. We never saw Buck discuss the cheating/kiss with Eddie. That means something and you cannot tell me differently.
One thing is for sure that we all know by now: this show makes choices. Tim and KR may not be in a rush to define the Buddie relationship but everything else they do points to what they're not willing to come out with just yet. And while some may say QB in order to keep interest/ratings, you're only half right. They know this is one of the biggest relationships they have going in the show, next to the other three of course, and is part of the reason why some tune in. They're not going to cave into fan demands to define it or give them what they want so quickly or easily to turn around and lose ratings/interest. Henren was established from the pilot. Bathena became canon the end of season 1 and they double-downed on it in season 2. Madney became canon in season 2 (with JLH's entry into the show) and has been a sure thing up until this season. And even though their fate as a couple is up in the air right now, they share a family (which, isn't that an interesting parallel to Buck and our Diaz boys? just saying) and clearly still care about one another. Buck and Taylor didn't work out. Eddie and Ana didn't work out. They only have 4 other new characters: Ravi, Lucy (who started as possible monkey wrench for Buck and remains to be seen for Buck if she stays in the show), Taylor (who was with Buck; now she's gone at least as a romantic partner), and Albert (who we have only seen hook up with Buck's ex-date Veronica in season 4). So unless they intend to bring in some new characters, my point is: the four main relationships on this show is their bread and butter (besides the phenomenal story telling of the events and character arcs). Obviously, it's not all about romance, but I'm mentioning Buddie specifically here for a sec.
They're not going to cheapen it or take the easy way out. Not while they can continue to squeeze it a little more. And definitely not when they have put this much work into layering the foundation in each Buck's and Eddie's story lines to work them up to a point where they come together in the middle and it will then be seamless. Not to mention they also have Christopher involved. Buddie will happen, I'm confident it will. It just won't be something they'll throw out into a season premiere or on the off hand episode in the middle of a season (unless it's a mid-season finale) which will end up being a flash in the pan and boom, it flames out. They still have a bit more to go with the story telling of these two but trust me, they know how important this relationship is to a lot of people and they know just how vital the relationship is to each character's story now. They made that very clear by choosing to have Buck talk to Eddie each time he needed emotional support and emotional intimacy (yes I'm using that word because that's exactly what it was) and even chose to show us the contrast of him talking to Taylor. He had to almost vie for Taylor's attention at times; he never did with Eddie, Eddie was just there. He didn't always feel comfortable talking to Taylor and almost seemed hesitant at times, like he couldn't trust her or he was worried about what she would say; that's not how he feels when talking to Eddie. And vice versa. While we didn't see as much of Eddie and Ana's relationship as we did of BT, it was enough. Not to mention Eddie's 5B arc.
So they know and it will happen, we just don't know when for sure. Depending on how successful the show continues to be and actor contracts (and if they get renewed/the actors want to stay), we could be in for a long haul. But tbh, I wouldn't have it any other way. The writing on this show is so phenomenal, the structuring, the performances, the story telling devices they use, the constant balancing act of all of the ensemble cast's stories, I am way okay with the slow burn they're giving us. Because the payoff is going to be absolute fucking amazing when it happens. And it will all be worth it in the end.
So even if Lucy becomes a thing or another character is introduced for Buck or Eddie or both next season, don't worry. It's all blips on the huge Buddie roadmap we're meant to follow to get to the end destination which is:

So going back to the ending scene of 5x18, all of that framing and editing tells us one thing: Season 6 is sure going to be interesting. And if Lucy sticks around, it will be even more interesting because you know who (aka Eddie Petty Bitch Diaz) will be making a comeback. And I would sell half of my soul to watch that shit play out each week. (I'll need the other half for when Buddie does finally happen and I ascend on the spot)
Hang in there, peeps. <3

seven sentence sunday
i got tagged by @gayravi @hoediaz @thatbuddie i'm kissing you all right on the mouth mwah!! here's some buddie version for you - before you ask, no it's not seven sentences.
“You know,” A voice begins, startling Eddie out of his own head. “I think if you grip that countertop any tighter, I’m gonna have to dock your next pay for repairs.”
He sighs quietly, his shoulders dropping as he moves to stand properly. “Sorry, cap. Got a little in my own head, I guess.”
“I can see that.” Bobby leans against the counter in reverse to Eddie, looking at him in a little too knowing way that has Eddie refusing to make direct eye-contact. “So…Buck and Taylor, huh?”
“I guess so.” Eddie chuckles drily, swiping a hand over his face, teetering on the brink of exhaustion before the shift’s even started. “I really didn’t see that one coming, I have to say.”
“You and me both.” Bobby laughs, nodding his head towards Buck, who’s face is lit up in glee akin to a child on christmas morning. “He seems happy enough though.”
“Yeah.” Eddie mumbles, hoping Bobby can’t hear the way his heart seems to shatter inside his chest. “He does, doesn’t he?” It’s silent for a few seconds between them, and Eddie braves looking over at Bobby, expecting to find…well, he’s not quite sure. He half expects to find confusion, but what he doesn’t expect is the concern he finds in Bobby’s eyes, his brows drawn together in a way that manages to make Eddie feel both 5 and 15 years old all in the same breath.
“...Eddie,” Bobby begins slowly, leaning a little closer. “Is everything okay?”
“Everything’s okay.” He nods rapidly in response, swallowing past the giant lump that seems to be twisting its way around his throat. “It was just a surprise, ‘s all.”
Bobby nods quietly. “It was probably a spur of the moment thing, you know? I’m sure under any other circumstance, he would’ve told you.”
Would he, though? Eddie knows that things between them haven’t quite been the same for a long while. They still work together as seamlessly well as ever, but Eddie attributes that mostly to their abilities to compartmentalise — they both know when a job needs done and they do it. But Eddie’s mind flashes back to a night not too long ago, when his demons finally caught up to him after he’d been running away from them for so long.
tagging uhhhhhh @constructiononqueersunset @prettyboyandthekid @gaysdiaz @ekstasisandqueerangst and anyone else who wants to!!

I was just reading your anon ask stating Eddie is now an angry guy and failed parent subconsciously in Buck's mind and I just have to add: Anon, where do you get that from the writing of last night's episode?
Things were not right in Buck's coma AU dream, they set that out from the very beginning. First we get Daniel alive, then we get Maddie back with Doug, Buck's parents being proud and accepting of him (only because Daniel survived and Buck did what he was created to do; and without them going through the development they went through in the real world so it's actually not healthy for Buck or his relationship with them), Chim and Hen not knowing who Buck is, Christopher not with Eddie, Eddie having lost custody to his parents, Bobby being dead (but also a manifestation that was looking for the next substance to abuse while talking to Buck), and then Buck finally facing himself.
The whole dream was MEANT to be off. That is why Buck works with Chim and Hen to figure it out, why he listens to Bobby, why he literally takes an axe and breaks his way out of there. The dialogue even states that the life he's in inside the coma dream is not the right life, he might think it's nice because his parents accepted him from the beginning in this one, but it's not due to everything else being out of sorts, like Maddie and Doug for example, and Buck quickly realizes that.
Now, saying that, it makes sense that if Eddie lost custody of Christopher (which, again, ties into Buck's whole narrative this season about kids and actually links him and Eddie together and intertwines their stories even more, romantically or not), he would be devastated. Eddie did have an issue with his anger until last season, where we saw him working to process his trauma. Back in 3x15 (Eddie Begins), we saw in the flashbacks how angry he got when his parents gave him veiled threats and insinuated how he couldn't care for Christopher on his own. It was understandable but it was still there. Buck was on the receiving end of Eddie's anger back in 3x05 and even 3x06. It was understandable due to the situation at the time (the lawsuit) but still it was present. Then we saw Eddie choosing a way to deal with his anger at Shannon's passing, Buck's abandonment, as well as trauma piled on top of trauma that he had, and that was fighting. We saw how that ended. In 3x06 and 3x08, Buck knows something is up with Eddie but the latter dodges the questions or refuses to answer. In 3x09, Buck now knows what Eddie was doing and even says as much. My point being, Buck knows not only what Eddie experienced during that part of Eddie's arc that season but also most likely has been privy to what Eddie's feelings were at the time back during the events of Eddie Begins when it comes to Christopher. It's sort of implied that there's a conversation to be had (if it hasn't happened already) in 4x14 when Eddie mentions the will to Buck.
Since Buck's subconscious took center stage this episode, it makes sense that this "anger" comes into play. Because Maddie was with Doug and still being abused (which should have been the big giveaway for the audience as a whole that not all was right in the world besides Daniel's being alive), and because of how closely connected Eddie's and Buck's stories now are (meaning their Begins episodes as well as events and callbacks to their arcs in the seasons the Begins episodes take place), it is no coincidence that the writers chose for that to be the coma AU version of Eddie. A world where the Diaz parents did as they threatened and took Christopher away from him. Buck being the legal guardian to step in should something ever happen to Eddie, he knows the Diazes are the ones he would have to go up against in order to fight for Christopher. So it makes sense that not only is Christopher in his dream, looking for his dad, but also this event has taken place the way it has: Eddie losing Christopher and his anger taking center stage. In no way does this mean that this is how Buck views him (or as a "failed parent") or that the show is keeping Eddie down as a character or anything other of these types of takes I've read recently.
This episode was meant to be about Buck, to get him to Buck 4.0, and have him go through some major character development. The same as they did with Eddie last season. The way we've watched other characters such as Bobby, Athena, May, Chim, Maddie, and the rest go through it as well. That is what this show primarily focuses on besides the emergencies and humor sprinkled in: the emotional foundation of these characters and these relationships.
While I tend to ship Buddie myself, I can appreciate each character's separate journeys to get them to their arcs' endgame. I was very happy for Buck last night and extremely proud of him. I thought the writers actually handled this particular part of his emotional development quite well, and that's coming from someone who has been incredibly critical of KR ever since she took over from Tim. Lyndsey is a great writer and JCC set her up very nicely in the last episode (he's also amazing as we all know) to bring this home.
Not once did I feel that Eddie was diminished or disappeared from the narrative on purpose. For me, had Buck not asked where Eddie was or had Eddie not been mentioned at all, then I might have given it the side eye. But, Buck being in character and because Eddie is important to him, he DID ask. Whatever reason they chose for Eddie not to appear physically inside the dream, for me, it didn't feel as if there was this big hole in the plot or the show by them making that choice. Christopher will always come first to Buck, that's no secret. He may not be Buck's son biologically, but he and Buck are incredibly close and Christopher was the one to call Buck when Eddie had his breakdown and Buck was who he ran to when he found out Eddie was dating someone. Buck is his second dad (even without any Buddie/romantic connotations that statement might imply). They could have had Christopher ask Buck why he was leaving, not ask him where his dad was. Ryan may not have been present for those scenes, but they very much kept Eddie in the narrative.
And sure enough, we saw Buck reunited with his 118 fam, Christopher, Eddie, and his bio fam. If he truly felt that way about Eddie, do you think we would see him happy to see Eddie along with everyone else? That if he really thought deep down that Eddie was a failed parent, that he wouldn't talk to Eddie about it or even possibly fight for Christopher? What Buck saw in his coma dream (and I remind you, he did not SEE Eddie for a reason) was not real and it was not right. Just like he didn't see Chim meeting Maddie in the dream.
Tldr; Buck does not secretly think that Eddie is an angry guy or that he's a failed parent. That was a story device to not only include Eddie in the narrative but also to connect these two guys' Begins arcs as well as their journeys in the show. While there are many they now have, Christopher is still that main link between them. Buck and Eddie's friendship/family-ship is just fine, and Buck does not think anything bad about Eddie.
Sorry, op, hope you don't mind that I added this and sent it to you.
Please, no sorry for this at all! I really appreciated it. You are way more eloquent and precise than I could be.
This is all so right. I have issues when Eddie is reduced to angry man in fanfic and have said as much plenty but that didn't happen here.
Eddie's struggle with toxic masculinity and the 'suck it up worse things have happened' mentality right through to now, Eddie who can cry in front of others and be more open about how he's feeling as been a huge arc. Buck wasn't the sole on responsible but he and Bobby helped Eddie get all the tools he needed to do it for himself.
Thank you so much for coming into my asks and sharing. I loved reading it.
