Going through some of my fav classic B amvs and maaaaaan, I'm still so in love with when ppl would mix scenes from Higurashi and Hell Girl in with Death Note to really get the whole LABB vibe.

also see: pearl as gunpowder tim, gem as drumbot brian, and cleo as ashes o'reilly !
so like the mechanisms are a band but they all have characters that they play and have lore and tell stories (theyre immortal space pirates who roam stars in the starship aurora having fun violence and more violence etc etc) GHSJHKFSH im not gonna ramble abt them anymore lol @lucky-sevens is a very good resource for all things mechs + check out lyric vids of their songs on here + their official site
SO BASICALLY, mumbo right? i know i said hed be nastya and he does share some stuff w her but then ppl reminded me of who would be aurora and what of nastyas backstory and i realized tango would be a better fit for those details of nastya so (ex princess tango + starship impulse !!! zed is the ships doctor btw n his mechanism is his brain) i decided to mix n match stuff from different characters n change whatevers, so now about mumbo:
his mechanism is his blood ! which is replaced with redstone :] this makes him radioactive, and also glow red. hes also like, a powered redstone circuit or w/e they are, and can power things by touching them/being near them even. i think redstone would be terrible for circulation but also that i think redstone itself would be pretty hot, being radioactive and all (especially powered redstone)
the coat + gloves etc are for hiding the glow (and also maybe some of the radiation??? i cant imagine that would be very good for normal people), and the scarf is for his head when he goes out n such
the mustache is fake. yeah. mumbo got meched young and did not get a mustache u_u
i think theyd have a backstory kinda like ashes, mumbo worked for the governemnt as a scientist/weapons expert but double crossed them for the rebellion or smth and got assassinated/sabotaged via lab safety violations
ok thats all i got for now abt mumbo
im kinda thinkin if ill keep the original number of 9 mechanisms or if ill add more hermits, i want other mcyts to be album characters and such, with one smp focused on one album maybe, but i dont know if i wanna add hermits as albums characs or as more mechs. maybe them as non-mechs immortals? like king cole or lyf or briar etc. thoughts on etho as carmilla tho?

timelapse and artist rambling under the cut, cuz why not:
hardest part? probably just drawing a group photo in the first place augh!! but actually: probably trying to give them all semi-regular lookin' facial expressions while still keeping it true to their character, lol. trent's wide-eyed but somewhat blank stare, orange looking bored/blase but not overly annoyed, and chuck's always toeing the line right in-between "genuine smile" and "awkward grimace". theyre my faves so i gotta get it right, ya know. i shouldve made chuck's smile like 5% more weird tho i chickened out
couldnt get orange's left hand to not look weird which is why i cropped it the heck out. also didnt want to expand my canvas to fit the ref photo because it would've messed with the composition of the timelapse, which is why i was shuffling it around so awkwardly. i could've just opened it in another window, but i wanted you to witness my struggles. just so you know i usually draw in a tiny portion of a giant canvas, which makes exporting timelapses suuuuuckkkkk because it just looks like really tiny squiggles in a corner! terrible viewing experience!!! i didnt even start at the beginning for this one! i forgot!!
i wanted to color this, but i already spent too long on it, and i dont think its set up in a good way for coloring either. real mess of layers and values. maybe i'd split off the shadows and the highlights into two separate layers...? or just try and gradient map my way through it all? i could just take the easy way out and set the grayscale to a multiply layer and start draping overlay layers on top, but i'd basically be throwin' away all my value work in the process. this is the problem when you dont plan or expect to get color involved u_u i didnt segment everything off into specific kinds of layers to prepare for it.
i'll get around to it eventually though. their tiedye gear looks like a real pain in the ass to paint/render and i love me a good artistic challenge

for your “find me a Gonta post I haven’t seen and I’ll doodle you something” game, I find it equivalent to finding needles in a haystack but the needles look like the straw so it’s kinda just a guessing game. A challenge ! Also atarashii gakko guy here , from what I’ve seen I think wakaranai just doesn’t translate well ? 😭 translations of it don’t make much sense most of the time. The phrase tho (‘wakaranai’) means “I don’t understand” if it helps
Yeah thats the pain with less popular jrock/jpop u_u I have similar issues with newly released music by TOOBOE, but also Im just bad at understanding lyrics even when theyre in english. The spanish translation I found helped enough though!
and YEAH I KNOW THE CHALLENGE SUPER HARD LMAO That's kinda why I want to have it as an ongoing thing, cause its pretty unlikely anyone could actually find one I haven't seen before so I probably won't end up having to draw a lot (which Is good cause I have no time for requests anyways).

hey everyone, update on merch: i have One shipment of submas merch in my possession (minus keychain parts, theyre sending me those now tho), and i'm waiting on the other shipment as well as the danny phantom shipment which is in production rn!
unfortunately i am currently in a tight spot money-wise so i was considering opening my next round of merch, but i wanted the general opinion on this b/c i know i havent shipped out any orders yet since i dont have my stock in. would u guys feel cheated if i opened more?

Hi! Question for you, just out of curiosity. When you comm artists and send refs for your s/is, do you tell the artist that it's a s/i or do you just say oc? I tend to do the latter because I get shy u_u;
Hii! I think it depends on what type of comm im getting + what the artists do's and dont's are! if they dont want to draw 'real people' or their blog doesnt showcase any portraits, i usually avoid those artists so i dont accidentally make them uncomfortable or annoy them (like did you read my faq!!!) but you can always ask!
for the most part i word it like 'would you feel comfortable drawing my persona/oc/self insert?' . i kinda have no shame when it comes to comm'ing artists tho shdjd

it took me 13 days to break and make sans x shelby art SJWKDJWJ anyway. shelby doesn't meet him pre-corruption but whatever i think they're cute

ok uhh my bad this isn't oc x canon LOL. but... erfi and ana... have a lot of angst like halfway/early in their arc bc erfi sees her as a beacon of light/savior, especially due to her current relationship with the ppl in her life.................... they get better dw!!! ad goes through a similar arc so i think that was how i tied it into the oc x canon promptlist LMAO
