The existence of Catholicism in the Cars universe implies that there was (or at least there was believed to be) a car Jesus who died for the cars’ sins, and I for one would like to see how a car gets crucified or sins. I guess the blood/wine here would be gasoline, but what would the body/bread be? How did they sit at the last supper? What is the layout of car church? How does a car build a church? Do other human religions exist in the cars universe? How does a goddess with the body of a human and the head of a cat translate to a car? Do Buddhist cars rein-car-nate? Do cars have souls?

Harrowhark

I'm pretty sure you've already got plenty of submissions for her so I'll just say she was raised in what is basically a cult (technically a nunnery but let's be real) dedicated to keeping the body of the thing that will kill God behind the rock. One of their prayers is actually "I pray the rock is never rolled away". Harrow is extremely devout as penance for her earlier heretical actions in the tomb as a child (spoiler!) so the Catholic guilt really comes through

she’s number one practitioner of space Catholicism. The locked tomb is chock full of Christian (catholic) imagery themes metaphors etc. just look at her she’s got a bone rosary

They're Catholicism with extra bones. Everyone is a nun. They have what is basically a rosary made from knuckle bones. They technically worship the same God as everyone else, but they're waaaay more focused on The Body in the Tomb (Mary) and we get a moment where we find out that while everyone else prays the equivilent of The Lords Prayer, they're doing the equivilent of Hail Mary. And they paint their faces with skulls.

She thinks leaving dry bread in a drawer is taking care of someone. She's in love with a 10,000 year old corpse (the same one they worship). She spent ALL NIGHT digging with her bare hands to make sure a field had bones every 5 feet so she could fight her girlfriend - I mean, greatest enemy. Spoiler territory: She's been puppeting her parents corpses since she was 8 years old. Instead of grieving her dead girlfriend, she gives herself a lobotomy. She makes soup with bone in it so she can use the bone IN THEIR STOMACH to try and kill them.

I love the Locked Tomb series but Harrowhark has daddy issues with God, had a childhood crush on God's cryogenic partner, and is in love with God's daughter, not to mention that she's essentially a bone-bender. The religion on her home planet exists in a way that is technically against the will of the canon in-universe God, even. All of this to say, Harrowhark is heretical at minimum if not an outright witch. Terrible Catholic. Burn her.

Wondering if u could do one where Peter/sunshine are hanging out a lot bc he feels safe with her/looks up to her. Bucky is craving sunshine’s attention so he flirts with sunshine but she just doesn’t really pick up on the ques, and the team is teasing them bc they’re all assuming she understands. Bucky progressively flirts more obviously to try to get her to notice but it’s not working.

I'm hoping to put Peter in some more one-shots, but here's a little drabble for you. I hope you enjoy and thank you so much for the ask.

Advice

"Can I ask you for your advice?"

Peter's voice comes from the other side of the common room where he'd been working on homework. It was a common enough occurrence. Today, it was just you and Peter, but there were plenty of times that MJ and Ned also joined him.

You look around the room to find no one else besides you and Peter. You turn back to him pointing at yourself, "You're asking me?"

"Yeah."

"Er... I don't think I'm supposed to be giving advice. That's Steve and Sam territory."

"Nah," Peter disagrees. "I want to hear what you think. Besides if I ask them, Steve'll start calling me 'son' again, and Sam's still pretending I'm invisible."

"Again?" you sigh, shaking your head. Peter wordlessly nods. You dismissively wave your hand, "Don't worry about it, I'll talk to Sam."

"Wait, that wasn't what I needed your advice on! Please?"

"Oh.. sure!" you shrug.

"Well, I guess, I'm sorta having a hard time with the superhero thing. Sam told me that you've never, you know," Peter hesitates, tugging at his collar as an insinuation. "Killed anyone."

You frown, "Oh."

"I mean, I just - I wanted to know how you do it."

"How I don't kill people?"

"No - I mean - Sorta. Sam told me that you hold back a lot," Peter sheepishly explains. "And I guess, I sorta knew that already. I mean you could kill us all if you wanted to. Not that I thought you would do that or anything, but like even with bad guys. And you're just like so happy all the time!"

You take a moment to process Peter's rambling. Your mouth twists apologetically, "Pete, I won't lie to you, I don't think there was a question there."

"You seem decently happy with Mr. Bucky, not that I can really tell because he's always frowning at me. But you are. You're happy. You have a life. I just wanna know how you do it."

"You want to know how I have a life?"

"Is that a stupid question? It's a stupid question, isn't it?"

"No!" you assure Peter. "Of course not! I'm glad you came to talk to me, I'm very wisdomous."

"So?"

"Oh, right..." Your mouth twists as you think about Peter's question for a long moment. "I dunno, that was a choice that I made when I was thrown into this. I didn't want to be someone other people were scared of. I want to be good. I want to believe that people are good."

"Even when they're not?"

You chuckle, "I didn't say it was easy. I forget that sometimes too. That's why you surround yourself with good people. They'll remind you when you forget."

"That's really it?"

"And I listen to a lot of Taylor Swift."

Peter nods in agreement, "Already do that."

Lyric is a ball of pure chaos. She is basically if Alastor was left alone too long and had Vox's ADHD

Lyric is a lot like Charlie because Charlie babysat her a lot while Vox is recovering! Alastor went through a phase of postpartum himself at the sight of his partner barely being alive, and he spiralled from there. He didn't try to blame the baby, but he blamed Lyric's pregnancy a lot before he found out what Mammon was doing, which led him to feel disconnected from her and he didn't ever want to leave Vox

Lyric adopts a lot of mannerisms from Charlie, such as singing to connect with people and talking a lot with her hands. She has way more energy than Charlie does and actually uses more dark magic than her own hell-magic since her powers are so weak. She's pretty flexible and can make everything and anything work if she wants to. She's also really good at manipulating people, but she never realizes she's manipulating people under after she did it. She doesn't hold a lot of remorse for her actions as she has to think things through a l o t because she has to do certain spells or pay the price later. She's a lot more calculating, but underneath all of that, she really is a sweet girl. She does have a few daddy issues because Alastor was pretty disconnected from her for a while, but he does try to make it up to her, and she does forgive him. She understands he was scared about raising her by himself without his partner because no one knew if sinners could die from childbirth. She's pretty positive overall, though, and she's a lot more animalistic than Alastor because, as a kid, she used to mimic Vark and never grew out of it

I tried to work a lot off of Vivie saying Alastor wouldn't be a good father while also trying to preserve how Alastor acts in my series so I think I did a good job with trying to decide their relationship!

As for the mpreg! Oh yes there will be a lot of angst coming your way. I already have a few angst moments planned and one is when Vox is in his third trimester, crying to Alastor that he can't do it anymore and how he doesn't have enough strength to do it anymore. Mammon really used all the power he could. All the other sins held back and stopped production once they were halfway through the second trimester, but Mammon decided he could use all the other sins' power they they left for Vox

Attention can only do so much for Vox when all the power he gains goes to the baby and to Mammon. Alastor really was the only thing keeping him going because Alastor kept giving up his power to keep Vox and Lyric alive

It's probably going to be one of the larger one-shots because of how much I have planned, but it isn't easy on anyone. Sinner pregnancies are rare, and most sinners who can fall pregnant don't have as much power of influence as Vox does, which naturally some sinners viewed as a weak point and tried to take his ranking of Overlord while he was pregnant.

It doesn't help that Alastor and Vox refused to use sinner doctors because 'they're in Hell for a reason, Charlie' so they would only use hellborn ones, and they're quite hard to find in Pride because they're usually killed off

i love how you hold in-depth and insightful discussions with your anons even if they might disagree with you, i feel like you're such an easy person to talk to 🥹 which is to say i wanted to ask you about something - if you don't mind - i'm always really surprised when you discuss bruce vs. ollie's parenting styles because i feel like the differences you mention weren't necessarily so clear-cut?

for instance i think the 70s were really when the "oh no how can we send our own kids out there to fight criminals and die" conundrum was first raised in superhero comics because of dennis o'neil, stan lee, etc starting to equate the concept of child sidekicks to child soldiers & abusive parenting (hence bucky's ~death~ around this time too), and as a result of that + o'neil wanting to take batman back to its darker solo-ish roots, bruce was written to carry even more immense guilt over sending dick out as robin. and certainly he's had moments like this before, where he worried that he had done dick more harm than good (and for ex., subsequently erasing his memories as robin and sending him back to an orphanage like in world finest's #153..) but for the most part he's very insistent on dick being robin and he understands and encourages the fact that dick wants to balance his civilian life with being robin very much (reason #489893 why i think marv wolfman having dick drop out of college was OOC but that's another subject). tbh that's why i'm so defensive of the original context of batman comics, the fact that children were working in sweatshops or factories or as garment workers etc back then definitely allowed people accept the idea of bruce gifting a bat-copter to dick for his birthday in batman #10 (which is implied to be his 8th birthday 😭) or dick performing shoulder surgery on bruce at age 7-8 or whatever in batman #2 - so in the same vein, i don't think the thought of "oh no dick's life is in real danger as robin" should ever seriously enter his mind (as opposed to in-the-moment anxiety, which i'm sure happens a gazillion times a week) until dick's college years imo?

and i know you've mentioned before that you don't take the golden age personalities/morals ascribed to bruce & dick too seriously because they vary greatly depending on whether the tone is comedic vs. serious - but i actually think they're pretty consistent! for instance for the first ~30 issues of detective comics, bruce is a lot more OK with the idea of killing criminals, but it's clear that after a child, dick grayson, comes into the picture he takes a much harder stance against killing (hence why his original vow with robin by candlelight says "WE two will…never swerve from the path of righteousness" - implying batman will now hold himself to a new high standard that he's also setting for robin). as you said, when batman and robin do mention just "finishing off" a guy or whatever it's definitely played off for comedy and i think the audience is meant to recognize that :]

and re: ollie, the 00s series has him grappling with the "child soldier" worry a hundred times for mia, connor, and roy, so i think this sort of realization should happen slowly and organically for him too (and not just bruce) and it kinda already started back in the 70s anyway with roy's drug overdose... idk i like to imagine that bruce and ollie are a lot more alike despite the surface-level differences in temperament or personality and that's really what causes the (one-sided, from ollie LOL) tension!!

anyway i'm so sorry for dumping this entire novel in your inbox, it comes across like i'm just trying to lecture you but i promise i'm very interested in what you think 😭 and thank you for reading and always providing such interesting replies/commentary in general! have a lovely day ♡

please never apologize for this omg i am always elated to talk about the vast expanse of canon and hear other perspectives on it! and i wholeheartedly agree with you actually, the impact of the 60s really cannot be understated in how it altered dc’s approach to certain topics going forward (and i would love to find scholarly articles about this if there are any). like it’s really interesting how cape comics reacted to wwii and the social welfare era in very distinct ways, because on one hand as you said it originally wasn’t too hard for a reader to wrap their head around the idea of kid sidekicks because there probably were a lot of kids at the time who were also working due to the wartime labor shortage. but the 60s was a huge moment for civil rights and social welfare of all kinds and this was particularly with respect to children. i’m actually in a class right now called children’s rights so we discussed some of that history and the shift at the time that caused legislators to begin to take abuse as a concept seriously. i guess the tricky part about comics and our engagement with these characters is trying to balance the evolving world against what we would like to be a consistent depiction of the characters even though that isn’t necessarily possible, because the politics and concerns of various writers obv filter through (like wolfman and his reagan era propaganda lol). i def want to get further in my ollie reading someday because i’ve heard so many good things about the sort of gravitas of his role as a parent increasing as time goes on. and it would be interesting if more than one character ever converged on that concept of sidekick-ery as child abuse. i think the problem really is that some writers adapted that mindset while others didn’t so you ended up with a lot of tonally dissonant books and characters even though addressing this issue collectively across the expanse of the canon could have been very interesting

#outbox #tangentially i think that’s why i like bruce’s despair being a gradual development #like i think it can totally make sense for him to feel confident about robin’s existence and it’s coexistence with civilian life #but that faltering over time and like you said esp as dick gets older and the weaponry grows more complex and the villains get weirder #i can see bruce doomscaping easily by that point

DC Comics/Arkhamverse DR

So my DC dr is actually like a mix of the comics and the Arkhamverse video games... mostly because they're my favorite games and recently I've been playing the newest game in the series which is the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and I really wanted a DR so... 😭

Background: I was born in Catania, Siciliy in Italy. My abilities as a metahuman manifested very early, so my parents, who are not metahumans, were very surprised when I suddenly started to float things with my mind. I hid my abilities for a majority of my life because of some stigmas surrounding metas, and around 15 years old my parents and I moved along with my brothers to Metropolis for some work related thing for my dad. Since Metropolis has a higher concentration of metahumans, I began to show my abilities more and eventually began to work on them each day until I became very powerful... Around 18 years old I decide I want to become a hero and use my powers for good so I begin seriously training myself for hero work by learning how to fight properly, training my powers, etc. I eventually become allied with the Justice League, joining as the seventh member.

Hero Name: Lady Phoenix

Powers: This is gonna sound dorky but I just scripted I have the same exact powers as Jean Grey from Marvel comics lol. Telekinesis, telepathy, astral powers, empathic abilities... I even scripted a phoenix entity for me to become the "host" of, but a DC equivalent. So yes, I'm kind of OP and a bit of a Mary Sue, but I don't care. 😜 I also have the ability to be reborn anytime I die, same as Jean Grey. This is why it's hard for Brainiac to control me, because I can just die and be reborn outside of his control. ;)

DR Related Stuff

This might be really wordy, so apologies in advance.

Since my DR takes place during the Suicide Squad game, it takes place 5 years after the events of Arkham Knight. I'm in a version of Earth where Brainiac has taken over, but I was not captured and I don't fall under his mind control, as I'm immune/resistant to mind control because of my own advanced telepathic abilities. The only other Justice League member NOT effected by Brainiac is Diana/Wonder Woman, the rest of the League has been taken over by Brainiac. Though it's clear that the other members of the League are still in there and that it's possible to break Brainiac's control.

My DR we'll say is like Earth-13, with the original timeline that the game itself took place in was Earth-1. Basically there's different versions of Brainiac that exists in other timelines and Task Force X has to jump timelines and kill each version of Brainiac, which means they have to either kill or find ways to save the Justice League in each timeline.

In MY DR's timeline, Task Force X has already been through 12 previous timelines and now Earth-13 will be the "final" timeline with Brainiac. In this version of the timeline, the Justice League is able to have the control of Brainiac removed and they're able to become free from his control but this only happens because of my help. (So I'm kind of important to saving the Justice League, otherwise TFX has to kill them again and I don't really want to kill the Justice League soooo....)

So yeah, in my DR we'll be trying to save the Justice League to fully erradicate Brainiac and regain control over Earth-14 before Brainiac and his minions can terraform the planet and take over!

Obviously, I am NOT a member of Task Force X, since... I'm not a criminal. But I do become allied with them, though I don't let Waller put that stupid bomb in my head like she does to TFX because aint no way I'm gonna be controlled by her. 😐 And it would be pointless because she knows I would just be able to die and then be reborn without the device.

Additional Notes

Since this follows more of the Arkhamverse games than the comics, there will be some major timeline discrepancies:

Some characters are deceased just because of Arkhamverse previous games. Some characters are deceased because of when Brainiac took over, and some are missing or unknown of their status. (But will probably show up at some point once I shift there.)

Talia al Ghul: Deceased, died in Arkham City

Raas al Ghul: Deceased, died in Arkham Knight

The Joker: Deceased, died in Arkham City - An alternate reality version of him shows up in the SS game during Season 1 but I will NOT be having him join bc I hate that man. 😒

Tim Drake/Robin: Unknown status, missing.

Selina Kyle: Unknown, missing

The following characters are presumed alive but haven't shown up in SS:

Dick Grayson/Nightwing

Jason Todd/Red Hood - Previous alias the Arkham Knight but got redeemed at the end of the Arkham Knight game. Technically he could fit in the unknown/missing category but it's confirmed (kinda) in the SS game that Red Hood is alive so... lol

Barbara Gordon/Oracle

Aquaman - Idk why he wasn't in the game because he is mentioned during some random chatting between Harley and King Shark, he's just not there and not in the Justice League for whatever reason. But I've scripted he's the 6th member like usual.

The Riddler - I mean obviously he's alive, he's still putting those stupid riddles ALL OVER THE GODDAMN CITY I LITERALLY HATE HIM SO MUCH HE'S SO ANNOYING. Tell me why everyone else gets captured and mind controlled but the RIDDLER EVADES IT? Typical. Anyway he's alive and still annoying.

There's so many more that are alive but I'm not gonna list them all. A lot of heroes are outside Metropolis, defending various cities across the United States from Brainiac's invasion, but the plan in my DR is to wipe out Brainiacs forces across the entire globe.

There's a lot more but I'll probably have to make a second post going over relationships with characters in my dr like TFX, my relationship with each member of the Justice League, etc.

Hi beevean! I'm not sure if you know this channel, but Master Alucard (who makes Castlevania videos in Portuguese), did a video criticising Nocturne and the Netflix adaptations in general. Him and his comment section are ripping the series apart and I love to see it. There's one quote that really stuck with me "Nocturne is not an adaptation. It's a completely different universe, unless you think that the essence of Castlevania is just a guy killing a vampire with a whip. And if that's the case, I'm sad for you man."

hi omg YES thank u for sending i haven't ever answered this! also i'm curious about your top 5 for both!!!! <3 (sorry this is so long 😭)

top 5 characters and why i love them...

1. geto, he is hands down my ultimate favourite. i think he has the most interesting back story, and i love the whole trope of a a character that has gone through something terrible with someone else but one of them became out 'bad', the other 'good'. he's my biggest comfort character!!!! i also like that his morals never changed, it's just his vision of who should be protected did (which i think is understandable, albeit completely wrong). i also love that he's amazing at karate as well, and i love his humour!

2. higuruma!!!!! like geto, i just completely adore his CT. i actually think objectively it's the coolest and most impressive one and i love when gege gets a bit more technical in explaining stuff (like with choso's blood manipulation too), also judgeman's design is AMAZING imo

3. rn shoko, i LOVEEE HER! once again i just think her character design is really cool, i love rct as a technique and i ❤️ characters as healers. i loved her in hidden inventory, i always think about her trying to teach geto and gojo rct in the most nonsense way. i'd say gege give her more screen time but i need her alive and happy with utahime by the end of the manga...

4. YUTA!!!!! once again i just love his character design, he is so cutesy. i love how sweet and adorable and awkward he can be, and ALL of his friendships are so cute. one of the coolest character designs in the manga, and the most recent chapter with his new domain?!!!! i'm still not quite sure if i prefer that or higuruma's domain more, i THINK i prefer deadly sentencing

TORN BETWEEN CHOSO AND MAKI, but ultimately i think choso... honestly once again i just love his design, i like the whole idea of what makes humanity and the way he brings in curses vs humans (it works better knowing jogo, dagon, etc all mourned other curses and said to meet again). overall he's charming and funny, nothing endears to me more than a character that just wants to protect someone. the best big brother. i love that he cries a lot, i want to give him a hug.

AND my top 5 moments... (warning for manga spoilers!!!!!!!!!!)

1. nanami's death. as much as i hated it and i love him, the voice acting was INCREDIBLE in that episode. the piano, the way he speaks so quietly, the cut scenes from it being so beautiful to the noises of him being in shibuya. i first watched it drunk and i replayed it honestly about 20 times, i even called my dad and made him watch it while i cried 😭 ... THE FACT THAT JUST BEFORE IT YUJI IS HAVING A BREAKDOWN... ugh all of it!!!!!! everyone's VA was immaculate... the emotion behind yuji's 'what the hell are you mahito' was incredible, and hearing mahito scream back for the first time made my stomach drop. incredible, amazing. i've seen that so many times but just hearing nanami's 'i'm tired, exhausted even' makes me start to tear up. god BLESS the voice actors for that scene

2. yuji vs mahito, specifically the imagery and how yuji is portrayed with the wolves. so beautifully animated, incredible. mahito throwing snow at yuji was sad but satisfying

3. mai's death and maki's awakening... okay so off the bat maki is amazing. seeing mai answer back her father and then sit over maki broke my heart. they're both just kids who love their sibling. they are just so tragic, maki's 'okay i get it, now come back' after mai says as long as i'm around you'll never develop. i love that scene because it shows that maki is already willing to go against all of the odds, even before complete heavenly restriction. i remember her telling yuji she would kill her clan (?) in jjk0 and even believing her then. the burn marks also add a lot to this scene i think. it was just really sadly cathartic to see the resolution to them as sisters, and heartbreaking. the first panel where she open's her eyes telling mai to wake up BREAKS ME. the panic on her face. also the line 'destroy everything big sister'. the fact she does. UGHHH!!!!

4. hmmm... choso's fake memory. the fight scene was really cool, but specifically, the part where yuji is eating with choso and his brothers. it's beautiful. the switch up in the way it's animated, looking like it's on an old vhs tape. so emotional. seeing yuji feeding choso and calling him big brother, just to cut to choso punching something and crying like he can't breathe. ugh i love them

5. the fight scene in hidden inventory... i just love it, i think it sets up all three of their personalities so well. i love how easily it portrays geto's personality: his morals, his ego, the sense of superiority he has. it perfectly displays his and gojo's friendship, their differences. we get to see them so in sync as yaga walks in and they both look away stretching, the way they both antagonise each other in sync before that

It felt like they put him with his abuser or something I also didn't like Clarke's relationship with Lexa felt like they did that so nobody can complain about Bellarke not happening or else they'll be called homophobic I could be wrong though but it did seem like she couldn't risk Bellamy's safety because of her love for him basically the entire series is a love story between them that can't be rivaled. I really need to read the books all I know is Bellarke is canon and Bellamy and Wells are brothers in the books which would be interesting if they went that way especially when Jaha and the other come to earth. Oh right the aliens thing made no sense felt like bad fanfiction lol but it turns out Bellamy was right all along so his death was pointless? I do love the Bellamy and Madi relationship it was the highlight of these terrible seasons I also hated how everyone was like the Bellamy we knew died a long time ago like wth? Oh skipping scenes that aren't Bellarke I would do that in the books too I already did that for the show lmao.

Yeah idk what happened those years they were up there, but that wasn't what should've happened.

I actually didn't mind Clarke and Lexa. My problem was that when it finally was getting to a non-toxic stage, they killed her, like why? If you're introducing another love-interest that ruins my otp fucking commit to it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about them being brothers. Also, Wells is Clarke's first boyfriend and is jealous of Bellamy. So maybe it is worth reading the books for that lol. Let me know if you do!
