One thing I'm realizing while writing fanfiction from Vash's POV is how easily he lies.

Which is strange, because at first glance, you wouldn't expect someone so prone to wearing their emotions on their sleeve to be good at lying. But he's had to. Over the years, lying has kept him safe, and it's kept those around him safe. So while it may or may not have become second nature over time, it's definitely something he's been able to practice and perfect to the point he can do it with ease.

Which is very sad, because he shouldn't have to lie so much to stay safe. But it's also very relatable to a great number of people who grew up in environments where we, too, had to learn to lie to keep ourselves, and maybe even those around us, safe.

I don't think we emphasize enough the fact that q!Bagi is Empanada's only non altered human mother (not including cat girl headcanons). Like the rest of Empanada's moms are either demons or animal hybrids. I'd love to see more designs of Empanada where she takes on the demon and hybrid characteristics of her moms

Random thought: Napoleon, Gaby and Illya are making pancakes. They all try making pancakes in different shapes, like animals or dinosaurs. Gaby is maddeningly good at it. She doesn't like cooking and is pretty much useless in the kitchen, but pancakes are apparently her secret talent (even she didn't know she could do it - maybe it was just beginner's luck).

I cannot decide about Napoleon and Illya though. Either pancakes are Napoleon's kryptonite, even though he can work miracles in the kitchen other times, and Illya is okay at it, so Napoleon pouts for the rest of the evening that his partners are better than him in something that he should clearly be good at. Or Illya cannot make pancakes shaped like anything identifiable and Gaby and Napoleon have a blast trying to guess what the amorphous blob was actually supposed to represent.

"to be fair," joel says, as grian stares horribly into the middle distance. "to be fair, i'm pretty sure my wife tries to kill everyone she meets for the first time."

"there were so many teeth, joel," grian says.

"i know. lizzie's so sexy."

"i didn't think she was actually your wife!" grian says.

"well, that was stupid of you," joel says.

"how do you even marry a monster like that?"

joel lets out a dreamy sigh. "you cherish them, grian. you cherish them."

grian, for the first time in his life, looks plaintively at fwip and timmy to be the voices of reason. it's a horrible feeling. worse is the feeling when he realizes that they don't see anything wrong with this either.

"i'm sorry," a many-layered siren song from the deep says. "i normally try not to eat joel's friends. i just remember your old crew. i thought you were here to attack them or something."

grian shakes. "YOU ALMOST ATE ME," he says again.

"yeah. but i didn't," lizzie says. "besides, you're kind of stringy for a pirate."

grian whimpers.
