“Look at how they’re dancing.” Your voice was filled with excitement and your face also showed it. “The way they’re feeling the music.”
“Oh yeah. They’re feeling it alright. Very much.” Nick mentions. You had come with a date. More like an arranged date, from your parents. They had been waiting for you to date the son of one of their closest friends and colleagues. Business allies.
You’ve known Nick since you were toddlers, you grew up together. So having the son and daughter, together of the two important companies is like continuing the legacy. Business. Money. You had come to Cuba for the very reason, corporation. Those meetings would bored you to death, you would prefer to read a book instead.
There was something about the music. It made you interested, and excited, seeing all the bodies dancing together. The women swayed their hips to the rhythm of the music, and the men pressed against the body frame. It was intense, yet your attention was devoted to it. Specifically to someone. Enzo. You had met him by the pool of the hotel where your family and Nick’s had been staying, he had accidentally spilled a few drinks and you decided to help him.
You had bumped into him on one of the streets, once again. He was dancing. A dancing that you hadn’t seen, and he had caught you staring. You told him about your parents taking you guys to a Country Club, and that’s when he mentioned the Havana Club. You thought about it when he first mentioned it, and your answer was an obvious no in your head, but after getting to the Country Club your answer had changed. The atmosphere was so grown up, so business you felt you would fall asleep at any moment.
So you asked Nick if he wanted to join you. You expected him to say no, but his answer was otherwise. And so now, the both of you stood in a Club that was much different from what the two of you knew.
There was that moment when your eyes met with Enzo’s, and it felt as if the moment hindered down. Your heart stopped for a minute, feeling a weird sensation running through your body. You kept the contact, and the smile on your face as you watched him come to you.
“Ah, you came!” The excitement was in his voice, and with how his arms raised when he saw you. “Look at you all fancy.”
“Yeah!” You giggled, eyes shooting down at your dress. A semi-short navy blue dress, somewhat loose only towards the end.
“Hi, I'm Enzo.” Enzo extends his hand for Nick to shake.
“Nick.” He takes his hand and shakes it for a second.
“Yeah, I know who you are, cheto.” His accent showed in the last phrase. It left the both of you confused not knowing what he had said. “Country Club was boring?” Enzo damps his lips with the wetness of his tongue, his attention being back on you.
He waited for an answer, only he got it from Nick. “We thought we could expand our horizons, you know, bro.” He gifts a shrug motion.
“You mean like, naturally experience Havana?” Enzo's lips turned into a smirk that he accompanied with a small sway of his hips, he managed to get a smile from you after his eyes moved to you. He was giving you a daring look, he licked his lips once more before he spoke and returned his eyes to Nick. “You mind if I dance with your date?”
Your mouth fell open with a smile. You weren’t going to deny you were excited, but yet nervous because you didn’t know a single move of this kind of dancing.
“Don’t ask me. You have to ask her.” His head motions your way. His move made Enzo turn his smirking face toward you.
“May I dance with you, chiquita?” It didn’t take long for Enzo to get a response—
“Yeah, okay!”
The excitement on your face was altogether apparent. If anybody were to see you, the first thing they would ask is if your cheeks don’t hurt from the muscles being tugged. Enzo pulled you into the filled floor, bodies pinning onto each other, not letting go. As if they were tied, glued together.
“Wanna give your boyfriend a show?” Enzo’s voice hollered through the clamant bellowing music.
“He’s not my boyfriend.” You answered back. At least not yet. You thought.
Your eyes glanced towards the women around, taking on to find a way to start, but they all moved so fast for your rookie moves. You had initiated by placing your hands on Enzo’s shoulders but he shook his head with a jokingly frown. He positioned your hands around his neck, and he took his, to your waist. There was a blunt pull that made you bump into his chest delivering a small gasp from your vocals.
“I’ll apologize in advance if I step on your toes. I’m not a good dancer.” You enunciate. There was no need to yell, the two of you were dangerously close.
“It’s okay, princesa. Practicing makes perfect.” He shoots you a wink. All these nicknames were making you flustered, you weren’t used to them. “The key is on the hips. You have to let go, sway.” He demonstrates with his.
You tried moving them. But in Enzo’s point of view, you were doing too much, and you could see it on his face. “I-” was the opening of your sentence, but he cut you off.
“Can I?” He had his hands placed on you already, he just wanted to make sure you were comfortable with him moving them around more.
After you delivered a nod, a sound came out of you, once again. He had turned you around, for your back to face his chest, and he had his hands extending for more space, trying to locate them at the perfect spot. “You don’t wanna think about it much.” His breath hits you on the back of the part that connects your neck and shoulder.
You felt how he began to move your hips from side to side. Definitely smoother than you previously were. “Move them with me, just a little.” He indicates.
You tried not to overdo it, to still leave it to him. You moved slowly, and your hands would softly touch his forearms from how he had them placed. With your head turned towards his chest there wasn’t a moment where his breath wasn’t hitting you. He drove the both of you front and back still shifting your hips.
“Mind if we add a few spins?”
You shake your head in a “No” manner. The minute he moved away you felt as if you could breathe correctly again, as if you had been holding your breath with how close you were to him.
With his hand connected with yours he raised it above your head to give you a spin, and another, and another after he switched positions. “You’re still gonna spin towards me on this one.” He indicates making you nod quickly, like if you were afraid to miss anything. His hand was now extended between the two of you.
There was the nod, that said it was your cue. When you turned, your other hand hung around his neck, with heavy breathing. No wonder they sweat so much, so many movements. There was a part when he had his hand on your lower back, bending you back with his body hovering over yours.
Oh boy.
His lips were so close to yours. He had his eyes scanning every feature of your face as if he was taking advantage of the close-up he was granted. Feeling the way his hand traveled from your waist to your thigh had you gripping him, and even more when he raised it towards his side.
“Part of the dance, America.” He says. You guessed he had noticed the face expression you had on, and he liked it.
It wasn’t always that a woman would get Enzo’s attention. Yeah, he would dance with many, but that was it, and the fact that he had the pleasure of teaching you basics was even better.
A hum was all you let out. You didn’t trust yourself with words during this point, at any moment your voice could crack and the embarrassment was not going to happen.
“Why don’t you touch me?” Your eyes go wide at his words.
Was he serious right now?
“Excuse me?” A furrow is delivered from brows, confused.
“Not like that.” He laughs. “You gotta set loose, put your hands on me, move them around.”
So that's what he meant. Your cheeks were tinted red from both embarrassment and the lack of air from the humidity in the room, face was flushed. And Enzo’s hair was getting damped from the sweat, a few strands sticking to his forehead.
He had turned you around again, using his hands to move yours towards his face. Your fingers brushed his jawline, and slowly later moved to touch his cheek.
“Just like that.” You could feel the smirk on his lips as they rested right next to your ear.
You were so concentrated with him, that you didn’t feel any of the other people around you, as if the heat was only coming from the both of you. The colors of the lights were dimmed, giving it a more vibey style.
“Are we ready to go?” Oh, Nick. His voice came out grimacing.
“Oh um, yeah.” You pulled away from Enzo, gifting him a small smile. So he did the same.
“Why so early, bro?” There was that smirk again.
“We just have other things to do, bro.” Nick gives Enzo a sardonic smile that he gladly returns with no shame.
“Okay! Bro’s.” You add, turning over to Nick and patting him on the chest to walk it over. This was a scene that you did not need to happen.
“Oh come on, we were having a good time!” Enzo digs, he wants to play with fire. “Are you scared I’ll steal her from you?” He was taunting it.
Nick laughed. Laughed at the situation, and laughed at Enzo. “Not a chance.”
Nick thought he had you under control, with how much your family and his family made together, you wouldn’t leave him for someone like Enzo.
“Okay, guys, stop. Nick, let’s go.” Your words followed a gentle push that made him stumble backward. “Enzo, thank you for the dance. It was... amazing.” And for him, there was a smile. Nothing more.
Enzo let out a small tsk sound squinting his eye. “Cuando quieras chiquita.” His words made you smile, and he later realized you didn’t know what he had just said. “It was a pleasure.” He puts his hand on his chest.
Walking away with Nick, there was your hand grabbing him by the arm ready to get out of the club. There was the smile that you tried to get rid of but couldn’t, something about Enzo and the way the both of you danced had magic in it. The beauty of it is that you wanted to continue to try, but couldn’t for obvious reasons.
Enzo kept an eye on as your figure ambled out of the Havana Club, the cheeky smirk still on his face. Oh, how he loved this moment. Enzo was a flirt, everyone knew that. He was never afraid of showing how he felt, or his actions. And knowing that he had gotten under your not-boyfriend’s skin, made him feel even better.
“Pero que belleza, Dios. Que viva América.”

Shadows Entwined: Part 1
BatmanVsTmnt!Leonardo x Sidekick!reader
Heyo! I saw someone ask for a Batman Vs Tmnt, Tmnt x reader, and I thought hey, why not try it out. I’ve decided to make it with Leo because, well, he’s my fave.
Sorry for any spelling mistakes or any Batman misinformation. I’ve only seen this movie a few times, and TMNT have always been my heroes of choice.
Spelling and grammar mistakes be warned! English is not my first language.
Also I’m totally guessing what his eye color would be.

Plot: The reader is a sidekick of Batman from Gotham City, and meets the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And well, you and Leo like each other’s eyes.

The night cloaked Gotham City in a shroud of uncertainty, with what seemed to be the everlasting bad weather that had been over the city you called home, for all the time you could remember. In the heart of Gotham, you, the trusted sidekick of the Dark Knight, (H/N), patrolled the streets with unwavering determination. Your skill with gadgets and hand-to-hand combat had earned you Batman's trust, but tonight, the shadows whispered of a danger that required unconventional alliances.
Batman's investigation led him to believe that the lizard men Batgirl had told about, were ninja. Metahumans, Batman had called them. Just what Gotham needed! More monstrous beings roaming the city. Only more to keep you, Batman, Batgirl and Robin more busy. Well, it didn't hurt keeping Robin more busy… He had started nagging you like the worst little brother would.
From the top of Wayne Enterprise, you saw it. Penguin. You knew Wayne Enterprise would likely be the next target of these ninjas, but you had never expected the Penguin to be here, with all of his colorful umbrellas. The Penguin had never been smart when it came to colors.
You were just about to call Batman, to tell him to come outside, when all of a sudden, a small yelp, and one of the Penguin’s men was gone. No trace. And then another. The Penguin turned, just in time to see something blue, flapping in the wind.
“It’s him!”, he yelled. “He’s here!”
You frowned in confusion as the Penguin started pointing, yelling it was the bat. But you knew Bruce Wayne, and you knew Batman, and whatever it was, it was not Batman.
Moving fast and out of the shadows, you were shocked to see a tall turtle, standing on its legs with a red bandana covering his face. Even more shocked were you, when it asked the Penguin if it looked like a bat. More came out of the shadows. One in orange, one in purple and one in blue.
You looked on as the four humanoid turtles knocked all of the Penguin’s men out. You couldn’t lie, when the blue disarmed the Penguin with a ninja star, you were impressed. Confused, shocked and impressed.
“Gotham is bonkers yo!”, yelled the orange one before falling over on its shell with a big smile.
“It is indeed”, you whispered to yourself, watching the four terrapins. No doubt they had been the lizard men Batgirl had been talking about.
As they tied the men up, you continued to study them from your hiding spot. They were… not really what you expected. The orange one continued to goof around, even teasing the others. But as loud as the so called ninja was, it was the blue one that caught your attention. Even as the red one started yelling, he stayed calm and stoic.
That was until the sudden break of character, a look of shock washed over his face, as the red one pushed the Penguin’s men away from the purple one with his foot, causing them to crash into a dumpster in the alleyway.
As the four turtles started screaming and yelling over the red one's rash decision, you felt a pressens next to you. You looked to your side to see Batman, as stoic as ever, not even turning his head to look at you. You caught the small glimpse of blood on his lip, but before you could ask, he spoke up.
“Got anything out here, (H/N)?”
You pointed to the alleyway, where the four terrapins were staring at the Bat Mobil. “Seems like Batgirl’s lizard men like your ride”.
Batman narrowed his eyes. He spoke no words before jumping into action, throwing his Bat Stars at them. You followed suit, staying on the roof above them, keeping out of sight as they took in the presence of the bat. You were not surprised to see the red one attack before the blue one told him to. You were much less surprised to see the same red turtle being thrown back against the orange one.
“Take him down!”, the blue turtle yelled. “We need answers”.
You watched as the four turtles fought against Batman, only to be thrown away one by one, before coming right back into action. As Batman threw the orange one through the backdoor of a pizza place, the purple and red one engaged him in battle. You saw the blue one, getting ready to jump in, his two katanas ready. You took this as your que and went straight down in front of him. He halted, eyes widening in surprise.
“You’re welcome to try”, was all you said, before swinging a fist at him. He dodged, gritted his teeth in a frown, jumping in for an attack. You dodged his sharp blades, standing right between them, straight in his line of sight. Amidst the standoff, your eyes met those of the blue-masked leader. They were white, but for a split second, you could see color in them. Blue? Like the mask on his face. You would have wanted to study the color further, but decided against it with a kick to his plastron. He slid across the ground before standing, with the same white in his eyes as before. He ran and swung his blades at you, as you blocked his attack with your forearm. You made a mental note to yourself, to once again thank Bruce for putting metal inside of your gloves. You could no longer count the amount of times they have saved you.
As you stood there, fighting with your forearm against the impressive strength he was putting into his katanas, you once again noticed the color of his eyes. Definitely blue, with an inner circle of light gray.
“I like your eyes”. You couldn’t stop yourself. “They’re pretty”. You just had to say it. And his reaction was worth it. He was caught off guard. Pupils snapping straight to your eyes in shock. “Would look good in black”, you finished, using his moment of hesitation to punch him in the face.
He stumbled back a few steps, giving Batman more than enough time to attack a hock to the back of his shell, which sent him flying across the alley, straight into the purple one.
Batman turned his attention towards the red one, as the orange one came flying for you with his nunchucks out. Screaming about nunchucks to the face while leaving his own face open for attacks. That sent him flying to the ground, right next to the purple one yet again.
With a taser shock from the Batmobile, the red one was down too. That left the blue one, who continually refused to stay down.
“Who ever you two are”, he said, pointing with his swords. “You better back the hell away from my brothers!”
As he came towards the two of you, Batman rushed in to block his swords. You found the flash bombs from your belt - yet another of the many reasons for you to thank Bruce, throwing them at the blue terrapin. The white flashed left him dazed and confused. The last thing he saw before being knocked out cold, with the blunt end of his own brother’s sai, was your eyes.
Those damn eyes.
As Batman threw him to the rest of the turtles, that was all you could think about. He did indeed have pretty eyes.
Growning, the purple one looked at his brothers. “That’s it. I’m calling this”. He stood up, throwing a smoke bomb to the ground leaving you and Batman back in the alley, covering your faces from the smoke. “It’s ninja vanish time!”
Batman looked to the sai in his hand. You started at the spot where the turtles had been just a moment ago.
“Ninja… turtles”, you heard the dark voice of Batman say.
“I liked metahumans more”, you mumbled, still starting at the place you had last seen the blue turtle.

BLOGTOBER 10/10-11/2023: MAD LOVE (1935), BODY PARTS (1991)
I had always heard, casually, that Eric Red's BODY PARTS was a remake of Karl Freund's MAD LOVE. The relationship can't be quite that direct, since each film is adapted from a separate novel--MAD LOVE from Maurice Renard's The Hands of Orlac (1920), and BODY PARTS from a book with the English title Choice Cuts (1968) by crime-writing duo Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac. It just so happens that the two films deal with the notion that consciousness exists throughout the body, not only in the brain. This is a real idea, actually (Wayback doesn't get behind this paywall, but maybe you have something better), although I haven't heard anyone posit that personality exists throughout the body like it does in these exciting movies.
Simply one of the best appearances of a human being in a movie.
In MAD LOVE Colin Clive plays Stephen Orlac, a famous pianist who, after a devastating accident, receives a transplant of both hands from the disturbed Dr. Gogol (Peter Lorre). Orlac doesn't know that he now has the hands of a murderer, and they have retained their former habits. Gogol uses the ensuing drama to try to deprive the pianist of his beautiful wife Yvonne (Frances Drake), a Grand Guignol performer with whom the doctor is obsessed. Gogol seems to know that body parts can remain identified with their original owner, and perhaps this awareness feeds into his general attachment to appearances. His projected relationship with Yvonne is filtered through layers of simulation: He "knows" her from her stage role, and he lives with a wax figure of her in a self-conscious imitation of the myth of Galatea, the living statue. Perhaps what's inside doesn't count so much, when the personality is equally embedded in the outside.
In BODY PARTS, psychiatrist Bill Crushank (Jeff Fahey, don't ya just love him?) receives a new arm after a surviving a spectacular car wreck. The experimental procedure seems like a godsend until previous owner's violent nature begins to infect Crushank's behavior. To solve the mystery of what is happening to him, he seeks out the recipients of other limbs donated by the same crazed killer, including a vigorous young athlete named Mark (Peter Murnik) who needed new legs, and Remo (Brad Dourif), a hack painter who has experienced a burst of highly lucrative inspiration since he accepted his new arm. All of the men have been contaminated with the original donor's destructive rage, but Mark and Remo are less willing to part with their, er, parts. Here we have a whiff of the notion that the beast in man--the animal self that resists civilization--is connected to bodily power and pleasure, and also to subconscious, intuitive mental activities like the artistic impulse. Crushank, a psychiatrist who works with prisoners to help civilize them, is naturally less benefited by these bestial qualities.
The makeup in this movie is incredibly great, you can practically smell that arm.
BODY PARTS and MAD LOVE share the intriguing feature of a kind of decentralized evil. There is the evil of the original owner of the parts, and the evil that grows in their unwitting recipients, and the evil of the egomaniacal doctors who perform the operations for their own purposes. Villainy is sort of a free-floating essence that travels through bodily tissue but is never confined to a single, containable, even killable person. Instead it spreads like a virus through a person's life until both their inner feelings and their outer circumstances are entirely tainted. It's fortunate for the films' protagonists that consciousness is still corporeally dependent, despite how communicable it is, or else things could have been a lot worse!
PS Both of these movies deserve a lot more attention than I was able to give them during what I did not know would turn into a speed run season of Blogtober. I reserve the right to revisit them later! I didn't even get to talk about how BODY PARTS was co-written by Norman Snider who co-wrote DEAD RINGERS with David Cronenberg...

I JUST FIGURED IT OUT. the parallels and juxtaposition between the pairs of light+misa vs L+juliette.
something i see heavily in both light and misa —one of the only things they have in common, you could say— is that they both adhere to societal expectations. like… to an excessive extent. you know? they both cling onto it for a semblance of normalcy, to capture that feeling of “i belong, i belong, i belong.”
it’s their crutch. in a life full of alienation (for light, not finding meaning in anything, for misa, the immense loneliness and lack of a social life), at the very least they can have this. although they experience alienation, at least they’re not experiencing total isolation— or worse, ostracization, being disapproved of by others.
(that last sentence would be such an eye opening sentence for someone to analyze if english isn’t their first language… /positive)
getting back on topic, light is a VERY repressed person. in the fucking cherry cola universe (aka death note including my s/i), he’s gay but is so deep in the closet he’s not even AWARE he’s in a closet, it’s all he’s ever known.
besides this (or maybe alongside it???), he’s flamboyant. he really, really is, but in canon, we don’t get to see this as much, which i interpret being due to light adhering to everyone’s expectations of him. idk if this specific facet of toxic gender roles is also prevalent in japan, but i can see light, at a certain age (somewhere from 10-12 years old), noticing adults discomfort at his theatrics and stopping immediately. (he’s kind of a daddy’s boy tbh…)
misa, too, is repressed. you KNOW she would love stuff like horror movies, gothic bands, screamo, metal, and the likes, but she doesn’t. the only interests she has that we’re aware of in canon is the occult and fashion. this is for sure due to the writer of death note’s inherent misogyny in every female character he writes, but if you employ some ingenuity (like me (⟡⸝⸝U_U) *ੈ ‧₊˚ .), you can view misa’s lack of characterization as a foreboding sign that misa isn’t okay.
misa doesn’t have any friends. we know this.
her modeling coworkers aside, the only friend we hear misa talk about is her occult friend, and she never mentions her again past the video tape arc. (yeah, that’s what i’ll call misa’s introduction chapters. why not? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
this coupled with her parents being murdered… misa is desperate for any sort of approval from others. i mean think about it— outside of her modeling career, she doesn’t interact with anyone! she has a room full of personal items (plushes, posters, furniture, etc), which can be completely normal, but for the sake of my headcanons, has accumulated so much from her spending loads of time by herself, in her house, alone. this is the main setting she’s in. of COURSE she’s gonna get bored with the minimalism of it and add her own personal touches!
one of the few forms of self expression she allows herself to have is her fashion, but there’s a well known subculture for that fashion in japan (harajuku, but i’m pretty sure misa’s is gothic harajuku specifically). so, to sum it up— misa has a group of people who understand her fashion sense, therefore she belongs somewhere.
(note: i am NOT insinuating that misa only wears gothic fashion to fit in somewhere. that’s a stupid af take and it just doesn’t fit misa’s vibes to be perfectly honest. what i am saying, however, is that misa freely expresses her unconventional fashion sense because she knows there are others like her. that’s all. (this is likely one of the only unconventional groups of people she’s knowledgeable about.))
i’d even say that misa is highly intelligent, given how she gathered credible evidence that higuchi is the new kira in the yotsuba arc, but she intentionally hides it. why, you ask?
because she knows she’ll be undermined by men, and she seeks approval over anything, she’s substituting it for human connection, so she just… tucks it away. (fuck, maybe she believes that her intellect will be undermined by everyone as a result of the murderer of her parents never being convicted despite her testimonies…)
there’s also a Whole Other Instance (slash personal interpretation) i could bring up here, but i’ll just make that its own post, because this one is already WAY longer than i ever thought it was gonna be.
and we’re only halfway there, boys…
touching upon the thesis of this now pseudo-essay, L and juliette are unconventional. and they don’t care lol.
it’s well known that L doesn’t give a particular shit about how he comes across to others. like the dude’s rich, he could buy whatever clothes he wants, but he chooses to wear his usual clothes because of sensory issues he wants to. his hair is messy and he doesn’t need to comb it because of how short it is, he sits in that gargoyle pose, and he doesn’t hold back on using his deferential vocabulary when the situation permits it.
before the kira case, he would solve cases from a dark room. sounds fine enough… until you hear that there is no furniture in this room and his PC setup is on the floor. 😭
L also is either unaware of social cues or doesn’t care about them, or doesn’t care enough to learn about them, leading to scenes such as:

he admits with no hesitance that he can be childish when it comes to competition. childish… he’s using an insulting word for what it is at its core— a word to describe certain attributes. (he is quite literally ignoring what the conventional intent of the word is.)
likewise, even around the taskforce, he persists in his typical demeanor, what with his stare that bores into your soul, or slunking around in public, hunched over, his appearance coming off as ghoulish with his pale skin and shadowed eyes. (i’m not saying this as a negative, btw, i love his haunting aura,,, 💗∀💗)
and juliette?? juliette embraces the unconventional with every fiber of her being. as long as she’s alive, she will always endorse the unconventional so long as it’s harmless (because what’s wrong with it if it’s not hurting anyone?). they hate the word “normal” being used for non-universal experiences. having a certain blood pressure is normal. there is no such thing as a “normal” hairstyle, that comes down to personal preference.
she LOATHES the enforcement of conformity. it pisses them off to the point that they go out of their way to be even MORE unconventional, as a way of telling closeminded’s, “fuck OFF, there is nothing wrong with us, with people like me, and if you do have a problem with me, then you can kiss my heels, cause they’re landing in your face anyways!”
when it won’t come with bullshit consequences (like being treated unfairly at their job for being open about her genderqueerness :/), she doesn’t bite their tongue. they speak their mind if they hear someone spewing the most terrible of things, whether covertly or not, which is what makes juliette the only person to come to heads with light time and time again. (let’s face it, light is the type of person to get away with saying microagressions, and since he believes he’s right, he drops them way too often. and no one SAYS anything about it because “no no, light does mean it like ~that!~ he’s so RESPECTFUL and KIND :(((((((((((”)
she isn’t afraid to express her joy and wonder, even at the smallest of things. they know they can be ridiculed and judged for it, but they also recognize the importance of small joys, and that significance outweighs ANY judgement that may be hurled her way.
that’s kind of juliette’s whole thing, actually. if anyone judges her for her unconventionality, she says “so? what are you gonna do about it? gonna go into my brain and rewrite everything about me? huh?” jdksjdksjdkajxjs, she can get VERY snarky about this, but they are proving a point, which is “BITCH, who asked?”

juliette: well, Boy Genius,² what’s a normal laugh then? huh? what is the typical pattern emerging from instinct which creates the phenomenon known as a laugh? present me with evidence. write me about all your findings, since you’re apparently so knowledgeable about this topic. to summarize,
light and misa are both people who care heavily about what other people think of them. they conform to what’s expected of them, even if that means closing themselves off from potential happiness.
whereas L and juliette are so authentic. okay, well, maybe L isn’t authentic around prime suspect, light yagami, but!! in all the time he’s known light, he still continued to eat sweets and only sweets, y’know?? if it won’t hinder him solving the kira case, L shows up as himself, odd quirks and all (🥰).
L and juliette have discovered the secrets of the universe, that secret being “i am cringe, but i am free.” (✿ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)
but it’s not so cut and dry as that, as they have varying degrees… no, different ways that this presents itself.
misa is more likely to be swayed if in the right environment (like how she had a friend who engaged in the occult).
L doesn’t care what others think about him. he is SO uncaring, in fact, that he doesn’t feel the need to explain his behavior.
but light and juliette… they’re in leagues of their own.
light has NO identity beyond what others expect of him. this is one of the reason why he’s depressed at the beginning of the series. he’s become everything everyone’s ever wanted— for his family, he’s the perfect son and brother. for his classmates, he’s the perfect student, the perfect friend, is TOTAL boyfriend material (apparently???¿? i can’t see it lmao).
yet it’s meaningless. everything that’s supposed to be fun, like spending time with friends, going out, karaoke, hobbies, playing games, sports, academics, dating… it’s meaningless to light. it’s too predictable, he’s too smart for it, really… so it’s not his fault. it’s not his fault it’s not entertaining to him! it just so happens that he’s better, and more intelligent, than everyone else.
to cope with his alienation, he shoves himself onto a pedestal, eventually diminishing and forgetting the whole point of such human activities. he spits in the face of humanity.
he’s above it all.
but juliette embraces human life. she loves the humans, and sees the inherent worth in the human experience! she condones recreational activities such as singing, dancing, playing, relaxing. they believe that our connections with others is what makes life worth it, even if it’s connections so complex and distant that you can’t even witness them (think of produce at your local supermarket. they wouldn’t be there if the farmers who grew them didn’t exist).
juliette supports self expression above all else, whether that’s through emotions, music, writing, art… any creative means, really! it’s also why she’s so vehement about presenting the way you want through fashion, or socially, through words (heyo, genderqueer nation (⌐ᗜᴗᗜ)).

these beliefs run deep in their bones. she wouldn’t be the same person without them.
in this way, light is the antithesis to juliette. light is the one who lies about himself to others the most. juliette sticks true to themself as much as she can and HATES conformity SO much that she actively spites people who wish to enforce it.
which is why they are at each other’s throats (mostly) through words.
if misa is more easily swayed, then light stands firm in his need to be acceptable to others.
if L is quiet, but content, with his eccentricities, then juliette is loud and open about hers.

(lol I just like saying xyzgate about any little drama so here we go.)
What is shipper’s issue with Taehyung recently and when did he become public enemy #1?? I am definitely on the 'Taehyung is smarter than people give him credit for' train but never did I think he was the evil mastermind some people think he is. Are we all really being serious or are a lot of your complaints about him colored in a jikooker, taekooker, taennie, y/n lens?? I’d go with the latter cause the things some of the aforementioned groups of people have said about Taehyung in the past few months can only be cooked up in a cauldron of delusion.
Let’s get this straight— Taehyung is not interacting with his friends/group mates (who he’s known for 10+ years, mind you) to feed shippers. It’s the way y’all will go to war with this idea that Tae wants to use Jungkook to cover up his alleged relationship. First of all, you’re giving him way too much credit. Who do you think Taehyung is that he can use Jungkook or Jimin or any other member for that matter, and keep doing it for as long as you claimed he has, without that member saying something about it. Do you think Jungkook is so scared of Taehyung that he can’t tell him to not mention his name on weverse? You always talk about “he knows how much hate Jungkook and Jimin get when he does this” does he? Now I’m not saying the boys are totally oblivious on the matter of ships but I definitely don’t think they see as much as y’all think they do. A lot of the things shippers talk about are very niche things that you would have to actively seek out for the most part, at least based on my experience. And this is just the english side of things, I don’t really know what the shipper climate is like on the korean side so it’s hard for me to entertain the idea that he knows about the things we (girl idek much) know about and doesn’t care. It’s also interesting to me that this claim is coming from jkkers when Jimin was treated similarly for years every time he so much as breathe in JK’s direction. i thought y’all will understand but I guess you’re fighting fire with fire…
But before we even get into all of that, why are we here in the first place? Why can’t we ever take anything the guys say or do just as it stands? I’d be with you guys if it was only silly little jokes but it isn’t. You guys are taking it so seriously and starting one sided beef with a man who probably wouldn’t know what you’re talking about. Why can’t something that was meant to be a joke between friends not just come across as such to you unless it fits your narrative? Why can’t two friends go to a movie premiere without it being seen as either a big ‘coming out’ moment or a PR stunt and nothing in between? (it can be because we saw 94z at an event and no one acted this weird, it’s always the maknaes smh) It’s because many shippers have reduced everything these men post, say or do as a hint of their relationship. Not everything they do has to do with a ship, whether you think that ship is real or is being used as a cover for some other relationship. Taehyung can post Jungkook on insta just because he wants to, he can talk about him 25/8 and no one should care unless JK says he has a problem with it. It’s just that many times shippers draw baseless conclusions from things that don’t even matter. It comes from that inability to separate the fact presented in front of you from the stories you make up in your minds. If this doesn’t change I can see this continuing to be a problem. We’ll see the same cycle of events occur if JK or Jimin ever end up in rumors like this (gawd i hope not, i’ve aged 64 years) because you guys refuse to leave room for deniability. I am not saying this as someone who thinks they’re holier than thou for not shipping the members but i’m saying this as a shipper myself. You cannot believe in a ship 100% because we do not know these people’s life, all we see is barely 4%.

Now taekookers who are switching up on Tae. I must say— this one is on you and i don’t know what else to tell you.
I’m not gonna repeat myself too many times cause this all comes down to the fact that you lot convinced yourself FOR YEARS that Tae so much as looking in JK’s direction meant he was hinting that they were married and in love. Taehyung has never told y’all explicitly that he was dating JK (if anything he’s showed signs that he isn’t, but let’s talk about this another day) so it’s not his problem that all your walls are now cracking. I think the state of that ship rn shows that a lot of y’all didn’t really like Taekook in the first place cause how does one of them possibly being in a different relationship cause y’all to jump ship so quick. Now I’m not telling you to start more discourses to deny Taennie, let it rest i beg. What i’m saying is Taekook still exists. Taehyung can have 20 *confirmed* girlfriends and 10 *confirmed* boyfriends and Taekook will still exist because at the end of the day they’re friends before anything else. But i guess if I was also preaching and fighting with others FOR YEARS about my ship being real I will also be throwing a temper tantrum right now. Anyway, if y’all are leaving you can just do it quietly, all of this is uncalled for. You’re just embarrassing yourselves.
Unto my last point, Taehyung isn’t obligated to be some protector of Jennie on the internet. They’re both involved in this mess and if any of them wanted to say anything or protect each other from their fans being equally as nasty to the other, they both have the means and platforms to do so. I don’t get this double standard that Tae has to protect her while she can just go about doing whatever she wants. And it’s honestly so dumb to be advocating for Jennie when (if we’re assuming they’re in a long term, loving relationship) she can just as easily tell her man what she wants/needs from him and whatever happens there is really not our concern. It’s also ridiculous cause what do you want him to do?? I’m genuinely curious.
Anyway i’m gonna end here because there’s no way I can go on without this giving me a stress ulcer. It’s not like I was surprised by any of this (y’all are predictable), I knew Tae would get hated no matter what he did after Paris and it’s going to keep happening once all of this is still in the air. Now, I get this whole taenniegate thing is a big deal, it’s confusing as shit and I acknowledge that. I can even acknowledge people having thoughts and opinions on the matter because we’re only human but some people, on every side you can think of, have definitely lost the plot. Let’s get it together!

hi thank you for this ask lovely!!!!
i know that some of them were mentioned in the text, so i'll be giving them an extra one. also i personally watch and know of more lighthearted stuff, so that's why they might sorta skew that way :)
mischa: obligatory "saw v" (saw vi) mention, but beyond he also likes zombieland and shaun of the dead. i see him really enjoying action horror comedies that have some heart behind them. has everything.
constance: she loves non-traditional animation and designs, the creativity that flows through that and the honesty behind that storytelling that isn't really the same in a disney movie (sure, she loves disney and pixar, but they aren't her top tier). she says "she's a lyrics person, not a melody person", so i imagine her preferring expression through beautiful visuals over story. think the vincent van gogh movie made through oil paintings, the book of life, coraline. coraline is the total package for her. while terrifying for her, it grounds her in that sure, she can get angry at her family, but she is so so lucky that they aren't spiders that want to eat her.
noel: a silent movie bitch, as we know from canon, who loves lola (1961). but if the choir forces him to go with something in english, he opts for ratatouille (i'm really sad i can't use this as a virgil joke btw). the core message of "anyone can cook" is so inspiring to him. of course, he adapts it to "anyone can be that fucked up girl". he can exist in that dingy world, he can make his way there and pick up men in alleyways behind the restaurant. the french setting and the distance between child and parent resonate with him (sure, his mother loves him, but he never feels understood by her).
ocean: my mind simply manifested the black cauldron. mischa's adoptive parents had a bunch of old disney vhs tapes (bc they were expecting someone 15 years younger), and she watched all of them. eilonwy is a decisive and knowledgable character ocean can project onto, and when she wants (or is forced) to unwind, high fantasy is a great genre for that which doesn't remind her of all the stuff she has to do. she does hate the kissing part, but finds comfort in the fact that eilonwy can find another princess to fall in love with later on down the track.
ricky: definitely a star trek fan, leading to heated discussions with noel about star wars vs star trek over google docs. but their favourite of all time? the rocky horror picture show. it's chaotic and sexy and scifi and this messy combination of genres that they absolutely fall in love with. i think that they do love music and musicals, and the horror comedy aspect just enhances it for them and every time they watch it, they feel like they're levelling up. that being said, 9/10 not enough cats.
penny/jane: i really want to channel menace!penny and say sausage party, but i do have the slighest amount of dignity remaining. she seems like a monty python and the holy grail fan, going back to the classics for her comedy and one that's decently unhinged. she likes some newer stuff, naturally, but i think a lot of other things can't give her the balance of making her cry with laughter while not trying too hard.

This is a really interesting question! I wrote a lot of stories about Kings and their servants. I do love writing about this kind of relationship because the King have all power on his servants. I wrote about fictional Kings from comics, fairytales, movies, or alpha celebs.
But maybe you didn't meant Kings as rulers, but to talk about someone who act like one. In that case, I've also wrote a lot about superior men worshipped by fags / losers.
These stories are good examples of what is closed to what you described in your message, but i couldn't linked them all (Tumblr only allow 10 links in a message).
I've tried to chose stories about different tone, universes, characters, and kinks. But they share the fact that it included chores and dominant masters who doesn't care of the subs / fags / losers who work for them.
It's a story about a gay couple who serves a straight white alpha man during Pride Month and do housechores just to be able to see him. At the end, they aren't the only ones to do housechores for him. Who am i talking about? Well, you know what you have to do to discover it! It's one of my best stories 😁

My story about Noah Beck being King of faggots and uses most of them as domestic slaves. A lot of humiliations for one of my longest stories, one the most sadistic ones. This story is really important because a lot of others stories are linked to this one (for exemple KJ Apa travel to Noah Beck's island in the story focused on the actor KJ Apa). Here, Noah Beck make his fags slaves do a lot of chores, even the most degrading ones.

Rambling about the Ghibli movies I’ve seen
1. Howl’s Moving Castle
This was my first ever Ghibli movie! And I loved it and I still love it. It was like this amazing discovery and I was hooked on the animation, the character design and the story. There were funny moments, thoughtful moments and even scary ones. I remember thinking Calcifer was hilarious and I watched it dubbed in Spanish and Howl’s voice is the same as Castle/Nathan Fillion, but the VA does a great job. It’s one of my favorites, probably the most.
2. From up on Poppy Hill
Watched it in English and I’ll probably rewatch it that way just for Anton Yelchin. It was yet another surprise. Has a good tone and music and the story is okay until the weird SPOILER “are they siblings?” part END SPOILER. Yep, I get it was because of the war and all that. Anyway, it’s on my top list. Also, I ended up expecting a kiss or hug or something but then I read Ghibli doesn’t portray relationships that way... and I’m okay with that.
3. The Secret World of Arriety
This movie was so pretty! Well, all of them are pretty, but I really liked the production design in this one. And my first time watching a Ghibli movie in Japanese (Your Name was my first movie in Japanese and I had rewatched Howl’s... with subs before, but you know). It feels like a fairytale and it has great music.
4. Spirited Away
I guess this is some sort of Alice in Wonderland Ghibli version. And, oh, my, is it bonkers. Lots of creativity here with the character designs, the story is great but it had a lot of WTH moments and I really wanted them to reunite after all that.
5. Kiki’s Delivery Service
This one was a little boring. It looked promising, I love witches and the premise is interesting, but it dragged a little, the boy is so annoying and my favorite character is the cat, so...
6. Ponyo
The Little Mermaid, Ghibli version (btw, I got nothing against retelling fairytales, because they do it in such a creative way). This was the opposite: weird start, got me hooked. Ponyo is a delightful character. Between my favorites.
7. Princess Mononoke
Loved the idea and the beginning, got weirder and weirder. I get it could be a product of its time, but the story would benefit from a little more work. Although I liked the spirits design and it obviously inspired the creators of ATLA, especially in the creature design for Korra.
8. Castle in the Sky
Another product of its time in terms of pacing and the strange obsession of grown men towards a little girl. It was... nice. Reminded me a lot of Atlantis, so I guess Disney took some notes. The design of the city was good and the lore interesting. And the boy got me chuckling in the action scenes, doing all that barefoot.
9. My Neighbor Totoro
Talking about cute. This movie is so simple and yet so good. The tiny Totoro has to be my favorite Ghibli creature and it has a lot of charm.
10. Whisper of the Heart
While I usually hate those kind of endings (love has had me waiting enough), it made me feel hopeful instead of sad. Another movie with a slow pace but a really long scene is just following a cat, so of course it was going to get on the top of my list. Is quite relatable as a writer and I sure hoped I’ve had (or had now) that support from my parents. The scenes of the book look great and even though I already knew what was going to happen from 5 minutes in, I didn’t even care.

Weird question but: are the heads of multiple-headed dragons ( ex. Zippleback) different genders? Like is one head male and another female? Thinking about this bc Ruffnut and Tuffnut favor one head of Barf/Belch over the other, plus seeing that people seem to like having a dragon of the same gender as them (excluding Fishlegs)

If you want to look at dragons that way, all the power to you!
I take the view that HTTYD movie dragons are not on the same sapient levels as human beings. They're intelligent but not going to process life like humans. Just like goats won't be mulling over the biological sex / gender distinction, I don't imagine dragons doing that, either. I call a dragon "he" or "she" based on their physiological characteristics. So that means Barf and Belch is male.
Of course, how Barf and Belch get referenced is fun. One dragon, two heads! Woot! Based on speakers's perceptions and priorities, that means Barf and Belch is referred to as "the dragon" but also "they" in DreamWorks Dragons episodes. Verbs for singular or plural bounce everywhere. However, there are places where Ruffnut and Tuffnut put a gender to their dragon.
Dragon Flower (ROB Ep. 9)
Snotlout: If I find out who was holding back, I am gonna be so mad! Hookfang was so sick, I was up all night scraping dragon barf off our walls!
Tuffnut: Yeah? Well, ours is dead! Just kidding. But he's really not that fun anymore.
Ruffnut: He just sits there. He won't blow anything up!
Between a Rock and a Hard Place (RTTE S3 Ep. 10)
Hiccup: Ruff. Tuff. You're okay! Wait, is Belch?
Tuffnut: Oh, he's fine. We Thorstons are known for our extremely thick craniums.
It looks like, canonically speaking, Ruffnut and Tuffnut consider their Zippleback (and both heads) "he."
People interpret fandom material differently, which is fun. I tend to stick very close to what I'm shown in canon for how I ground things. And if something isn't shown, I extrapolate as closely to creator intent, likelihood of something existing, and what I'm shown as I can do. I don't see the creation team of HTTYD treating Zippleback heads with different genders. Whether or not you want to go into headcanon territory that may or may not align close to that is up to you! And frankly, if I saw a Zippleback in a fanfic or fanart with a split gender, I'd find that fun!
As far as characters preferring dragons of their own gender and sex, from a Doylist standpoint I'd just call it an old trope to match that. But that's no fun when we're talking from a Watsonian perspective. From a Watsonian angle, yeah, you're right, everything matches a LOT. So you can totally ground your claim.
If I wanted, I could counter we have too small a sample size to resoundingly say characters prefer the sex of their dragon one way or the other. We don't know what Gothi's Terrible Terrors are, etc. And if we think about actually-existing-humans, people vary in their pet preferences (or lack of preference!). There's not a dichotomy between male and female dog owners. There isn't a giant division in horse riding communities between women riding mares and men riding geldings. So I think you could make a case for what you're saying, but personally, I don't perceive Berk as being different from my dog and horse examples.
True, that idea of sex preference could be argued in Gift of the Night Fury. Before characters like Fishlegs realized Meatlug's real sex, they were using pronouns congruent with their gender to describe their dragons. But if the teen riders didn't know their dragons' sexes when they bonded (probably the case given the circumstances of HTTYD 1), the fact they ended up with dragons that mostly matched themselves is a matter of coincidence.
Outside Fishlegs's Meatlug mistake, which could be excused with him not having had Meatlug long, I suspect many Vikings knew, physiologically-speaking, what was up with their dragons before GOTNF. And linguistically, with the characters speaking English, they're using the same English default assumption of "he" for an animal's gender, so that doesn't help us much re: rider preferences when most of the dragons in canon are male (Skullcrusher, Thornado, Barf and Belch, Toothless, etc.).

So I've just finally seen Downton Abbey II (which means I can finally unblock the Downton Abbey tag!) and here are my thoughts in case that is of interest to anyone:
That embroidered blue coat Lucy wears just after her wedding is gorgeous, I want the same (that was my first thought so sorry, this costume-y note comes first)
I liked the idea of the movie, but I didn't like the actors though. Myrna Dagleish's transformation from "spoilt and silly girl" to "shy and grateful woman" was too sudden, even if it helped enhance Cora's kindness. Guy's romance with Thomas was unnecessary and I wish they'd kept Richard as Thomas' love interest instead of throwing him away and coming up with another romance. And Jack Barber was... nice, I just wasn't sure why they wanted to draw this romance with Mary, it would have been nicer to have them just as co-workers I think. And Mary's line "it feels good to a married woman to see she still can attract men" was too much like Cora's pseudo-romance with Bricker, so... didn't like it.
The villa in the south of France. Glorious architecture, stunning landscape, incredible colours. Loved to see Edith's wardrobe perfectly matching the landscape (all those oranges and teals... Incredible).
Nathalie Baye seemed a bit off to me though? I'm French and I watched the movie in English but something in her lines disturbed me. I think the dialogues have been written in English and then translated into French and something wasn't natural with them.
Cobert Angst. Unnecessary to some extent, because the malignant anemia has already been used for Lord Merton and I already didn't like the "Deus ex machina" effect. But that scene in the garden? Robert breaking down thinking he's going to lose his wife? I loved it. The sweet scenes between them (when he took her hand in the boat!) were so beautiful. Loved them from start to finish. Robert's own interrogations about his origins were a good way to put him in an uncomfortable position and to give him and Cora new challenges to face.
Edith and Bertie, on the contrary, were so happy! Seeing Edith starting to write again was so cute. Also, wow, this girl can dance? She makes smooth moves at the party. She looked a bit like Duchess during the jazz scene in The Aristocats (I know, I know, my references are odd).
Mary and Edith. I've always been a Mary stan but I didn't like her evolution in season 6. I'm so glad to see they're at peace now, they confide in each other and it warmed my heart. They even joke and tease each other, but in a nice and harmless way. The way they cuddle just after Violet dies reminded me of Sybil's death, and I could see how both of them improved over the years. Mary and Edith's relationship is probably my favourite aspect of the movie.
Speaking of Violet's death, I loved the way it was built up during the whole movie. Giving everybody time to think about it, and finally having a peaceful death at Downton, was all we could wish for her. I'm glad she had time to speak to everyone before dying and even to have the last word with Denker. Loved this Oscar Wilde-like last sentence.
Oh, and Tom's and Violet's scene when she admits she wasn't fond of him in the beginning but she loves him and is glad they're friends? Made me tear up.
The funeral was so well-paced, too! Mary's and Carson's scene was so sweet and inevitably reminded me of their scene in S4E1.
Also, if anyone knows where I can find a brooch similar to the one Violet wears before passing it on to Mary? I want good Downton Abbey merch, I'm tired of seeing shirts and mugs to be honest.
Another costume-y note: the burgundy silk dressing-gown Mary wears for approximately 10 seconds in her bedroom was gorgeous, I need it.
Molesley and Baxter's arc. So cute. Their happy ending is definitely worth the wait. The proposal scene was both funny and sweet, just like them.
Loved the additional plot of Mrs Patmore and Mr Mason, and the part Daisy took in it. It was just a beginning, so it didn't add too much new details into the film but it was enough for us to hope and I'm here for it.
Also, Carson being Carson. Enough said. Flawless.

“All of Us Strangers” may well be one of the most luminous ghost stories to have ever graced the big screen. Not that a viewer is always sure that the love story — romantic and familial — is, in fact, a ghost story.
Director Andrew Haigh based his film on Taichi Yamada’s novel, “Strangers.” A “thinking man’s ghost story,” is how one reviewer described the darker work. It was translated from Japanese into English in 2003.
In Haigh’s hands, something touchingly grounded was discovered in the translation. At the core of “All of Us Strangers” resides a haunting love story and a naturalistic ghost yarn. Andrew Scott (the hot priest in “Fleabag”) plays screenwriter Adam, who connects to his long-lost parents at the same time he is embarking on a relationship with a mysterious neighbor named Harry (Paul Mescal).
“All of Us Strangers” has garnered critics’ accolades and awards nominations — for its four leads, in particular Andrew Scott, but also for Haigh’s screenplay. This should keep the delicate drama in the cultural conversation until the Academy Awards nominations are announced on Jan. 23 and on through to the televised ceremony on March 10.
The film was an audience favorite when it screened for the first time at the Telluride Film Festival in late summer. And its emotional tug was confirmed in November when the Denver Film Festival gave Haigh its LaBahn Ikon Award.
“He was an amazing choice to receive our second Ikon Award,” said Keith Garcia, founder of the film organization’s Cinema Q banner and annual LGBTQ+ film festival, now entering its 16th year. “He’s similar to Coleman Domingo,” honored in 2022 and an amazing acting talent, “who has such a great career behind him but also an amazing future going forward. That’s like Haigh’s trajectory as a filmmaker.”
Haigh’s filmography provides evidence of his ascendant place among LGBTQ+ filmmakers, but also, like directors Todd Haynes and Ira Sachs, cinema in general. “Not just ‘Weekend’ but also ‘Looking’ [the HBO series about three gay male friends in San Francisco] have become staples,” Garcia continued. “But he’s been able to mix in other works that aren’t necessarily queer in their nature but are queer in that they’re made by a queer filmmaker. It’s a very important distinction for us, this notion that the people we want to honor have that diversity and have that ability to be relevant to everyone. ‘All of Us Strangers’ is a nice convergence of that.”
What binds Haigh’s movies is the palpable intimacy he injects into the space between his characters: whether they are two men who surprise themselves by falling in love (“Weekend,” which has become something of a queer cinema classic); a husband and wife in the midst of celebrating a milestone when an out-of-the-blue discovery vexes their rapport (“45 Years,” featuring a fierce Charlotte Rampling); or a wounded teen and the horse he tries to save ( “Lean on Pete,” an under-the-radar gem).
Hauntings are often the stuff of the betwixt-and-between spaces, which are the domain of “All of Us Strangers.” There is the nearly deserted high-rise that Adam and Harry appear to be the sole occupants of as well as the train that ferries Adam to and from his childhood home in a London suburb to that eerie apartment tower.
The ability to move between two worlds or occupy a liminal space provides an apt description of Haigh’s own dual role as writer and director, splitting his time between Los Angeles and London. “It’s like there are two different sides of me when I’m working. Even just in a physical sense,” he said, drinking orange juice at Denver’s Four Seasons hotel the morning after his Denver Film award reception.
“My front room is where I write, and I’m listening to music. I’m in my own head, I’m in my own world, and it’s all in here.” Haigh points to his temple, then adds, “Then suddenly you’re trying to make it for real in a new situation with 100 people and with actors and everybody else’s personality. They’re such different jobs.”
Different jobs that he does remarkably well. The quartet in “All of Us Strangers” does sublime work. Scott carries the melancholy, the need and a hint of hope as Adam, a screenwriter shaped by the early deaths of his parents. Mescal is gently magnetic as Harry, the fellow who knocks on Adam’s door and asks if he might like to share a drink. Foy and Bell offer magical, heartbreaking — and believable — performances as the parents who meet the son they were separated from by untimely deaths. “I feel like my job on the set is to make [the actors] feel like they are the most important people in the room, which they are essentially in that moment,” he says of his cast.
At the Denver Film Festival screening, two patrons seated nearby whispered to each other about the relationship of Scott’s Adam to Foy and Bell’s characters. The proximity in age threw them. It’s true: The man who the couple invite into their modest home in the London suburbs of Croydon is a tad older than they are. Uncanny to be sure, but Haigh plays the reunited family’s interaction with a naturalism that values warmth over spookiness. And he’s at peace with some uncertainty on the part of viewers. It is, after all, a strange world he’s invited us into.
Haigh admits that the writer in him felt at times like he was teetering on the edge of going off the rails. “Constantly, actually,” he says with a smile. But he hewed to writing scenes that made the most sense to him emotionally.
“I asked myself a lot of questions like, ‘Would it make sense? Is that going to confuse the story in a bad way? Not necessarily in a good way?’ There were many times I thought, ‘This really could go wrong.’ But I always knew that it was doing something to me when I read it. And I knew when I gave it to other people, it was doing something to them.”
It is that welling up of feeling, amid the understatedly supernatural, that has marked the film’s first public screening at Telluride, followed up by Haigh’s Denver Film Festival award and deep into the awards season.
Early on, Haigh gave the script to his longtime editor, Jonathan Alberts. “You often don’t cry with a script,” Haigh said. “He cried a lot.”'

10 Things I think of when it's comes to Disney
It's 100 anniversary of Disney, I put 10 instead of 100 cos I can't think of more than 10.
10. Cinderella
I never liked this movie but at school when it rainy day and too wet to play outside, we stay indoor watching video, they keep putting Cinderella on alot, it annoying. Sure they have many video and they keep having Cinderella on. Not sure about many time they did but remember one time a year before I left for other school they decide to put Tom and Jerry, which is just as worse. Remember that Fairy God mother singing.
9. Walt Disney
A guy who invited Disney company. A Legend. There rumor he's a nazi cos he was against Unions. It just rumor. But wonder what he think of Disney of today?
8. Mickey Mouse
It started with a mouse. I prefer him over Bugs Bunny. Even seen a documenty of him. I hardly see much cartoons of him but he's an icon. I remember a teacher draw a picture of Mickey Mouse for me.
7. DisneyWorld/Land
I never been but love to go to Disney World. I see alot of people been to Disney land or Disney world. Shame castle at Disney World not open to public like ones in Disneyland, but it was used for posh hotel and hired Venue (where it hired for wedding or something) I believe they f****d up. It iconic, should used for Public instead of just being there for display. I may prefer seeing Millennium Falcon.
6. Dinosaur
When I had our PC, I start going on internet and there site talking about movies and there upcoming movie called Dinosaur. It release in USA but took few month before it premier in UK. At time I unable go to cinema as I'm a high schooler. My mum got making of Dinosaur video from goven tokens to some newspaper. It took times before it release on video and saved up my pocket money to buy it. When college I start getting it on DVD. I remeber to someone at high school, he did make fun.
5. Princess Elsa and Anne
Used to into them when Forzen was big and it used to be part of British Christmas. Even bought two dolls. But seem I glow out of it.
4. Toy Story
Since first movie when out it was big. I wanted to watch and I already love these characters, they are lovable characters even to these who never seen it yet. There a English local newspaper even did an article about ''Parents like Woody and children prefer Buzz'' and even say Woody act like dad. I like both along with Slinky dog and Green Army Soldiers and RC Car. Used to dislike Bo Beep but she okay and she Woody's love interest. Happy he with her at Toy Story 4. Are squeals are great. Not fan of Starrberry Bear, he's an a***, he almost got the gang to be burned.
3. Marvel
Well, I was shock to see Disney bought Marvel. On that day I wonder what they do. I do hope for Captain Britain or Union Jack movie or tv show. And also new Punisher show or movie, cos they're my favourite Marvel characters. Avengers movie are awesome. Looking forward for new Deadpool and even I dislike them, what be their X-Men or Fantastic Four be like. Also like Goose the cat.
2. Star Wars
I was also shock they got Star Wars as well they had Marvel. Well, if this haven't happen there be no BB8, Porgs, D-0 and Grogu (Baby Yoda). Was big Star Wars fan, but wasn into it but when BB8 come along I big interests in Star Wars. I do think I'm a Star Wars fan or a BB8 fan. Everyone has it's favouites. Of course BB8 is my favourite, along with D-0, Porgs, Grogu and BD-1, also like Boba Fret, Din/Mando and Stormtrooper. I was hoping for Boba Fret movie, but series ok, but they got some negative. I do enjoyed Andor surpricely.
Wanted to add, we do watched alot of Disney animated classic movies (almost all of them) and even Disney cartoons, like DuckTales and Tail Spin. When I was young I wanted my own Disney like company like it has cartoons and movies I like, theme park that like Disney land/World, it nuts I know but I was young. What happen to Disney now is upsetting with classic turn to action live and wokeness/politics into the company.
Sox (Lightyear)
Maybe it something to do with cats or something. When Lightyear come out I took interest with this character. I see the movie kinda of a flop to some or most. I warch this movie few times cos of Sox, to me best thing about this movie. I see in Youtube before I see Lightyear, show Sox got stomp on I was little upset about but when saw the movie it was different Sox, but sad that Sox got killed off. He's my favourite Disney character.

Men (2022) - Directed by Alex Garland
It's Wednesday, so I'm gonna focus on a film with a woman lead.
"In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to find a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears."
This movie was so weird. It's basically the equivalent of a woman posting "men are bad" online and someone going in her messages to go "haha all men are bad, but im a great guy yknow, haha".
In the wake of the main characters abusive husband committing suicide after threatening it if she left him, Harper goes on a personal vacation to a nice English home in the countryside. But while here, she starts to experience visions which seem real, and flashbacks of her deceased husband.
She tries to seek aid from the local police and residents, but they either don't believe her or just straight up mock her.
I don't want to spoil this one too much, it's worth a watch but much like Garland's other movies, it's just straight up about trauma within women. Lemme just say the end scene is probably the weirdest, creepiest thing I've seen.
