a thief and a flower, part 1/?
" Get away from me!" The girl screamed, backing further away from the approaching woman. " GET AWAY FROM ME, DON'T HURT ME PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T HURT ME-" The woman seemed to ignore her pleading, raising a fist over her head as if to hit the girl, when suddenly the shorter female extended her arms towards her, and she was knocked over by a forceful gust of wind, strong enough to knock her through the wall and leave her laying on the grass, passed out. But the girl still hadn't calmed down, wind still rattling the house until it fell apart, leaving her in the eye of the storm, buried underneath rubble as the chaos she'd unleashed wrecked her hometown.
Of course, it was just Remy's luck to have escaped to the one town in northern Canada where an unstable areokenetic would wreck havoc. He sighed, one hand on his hand to keep it from flying off, the other occupied with holding out his boe-staff, which radiated a force field, keeping debris from hitting him. He was halfway through the storm when he reached the middle, and suddenly everything was quiet again. In the middle stood a single house- or the remains of one. A woman conscious in the grass. Maybe dead, judging from the glass shard impaling her scalp. He walked past her, leaning down to grab her wallet before he kept walking, smiling at the cash he found inside. He tossed the wallet away, just pocketing the money. As he passed the rubble, a weak voice could be suddenly heard.
" H-help me-"
He halted, for a split second, before shaking his head and continuing to walk. No time to offer help to anyone; cops would be here soon, and he couldn't afford being seen by them.
"P-please- please don't go away, help me, help me-"
The sobbing got louder. It sounded like a young girl, maybe 20-23. He stopped, finally sighing and walking over to the pile of a house.
" Where are you?"
" I-I'm stuck- help me-"
" I figured as much, but where."
" R-right in front of you-"
He promptly stared down, and to his horror spotted a glimpse of a face- teal, teary eyes, blood smeared across the forehead and hand squished onto their cheek, in an attempt that had been to protect their face from the debris. " I can't stay long." He told her, climbing carefully over where he thought she was, and sitting down next to her head.
" Just one night, please, please."
He didn't answer, instead taking out the thermos in his bag, filling the tea into the cap and waiting for it to cool a bit before he drank it, suddenly remembering someone else was with him. " Tea?" He offered, and upon her nodding, maneuvered the cup to her, helping her drink seeing as she couldn't. A majority of it got spilled, but she didn't seem to mind, and hey, it washed off a bit of the dust.
" What's your name?" He asked after a bit of silence.
" Aster...."
"....I'm Remy. How old are you, Aster?"
" T-twentytwo. My birthday's in June...."
" Hey, that's in two months, maybe once this is over we can celebrate it. I'll get you something nice, okay?"
The girl let out a silent sob, and he fell silent. He hadn't realized it was dark already, only illuminated by the distant fire and the small lamp he'd set up. He moved closer to her, laying down on the pile of rubble, doing his best to ignore the stabbing pain in his side so he could look at the tiny bit of her face that was visible.
" Try to sleep, okay?"
"...okay...."
She did fall asleep. It only took two hours, probably due to how exhausted she must be. Remy took the chance to get up, one last time brushing the multi-colored bangs out of her eyes before he turned, grabbing his bag to leave. He was just a few steps away when she called out to him again.
" R-Remy!?"
" Aster, I have to go- I'm sorry, I have to go, you'll be safe here, just wait for the police, okay?"
" DON'T GO-"  She coughed aggressively- " PLEASE DON'T GO PLEASE I CAN'T BE SEEN BY THE POLICE I DID A BAD THING PLEASE STAY WITH ME PLEASE-"
He kept walking, feeling a weird...painful feeling in his chest? Regret?
" PLEASE I DON'T WANT TO DIE ALONE DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE PLEASE- I DON'T WANT TO DIE LIKE THIS-"
He finally stopped, sighing heavily. This shits gonna get me back in that damned lab. He turned around, walking back to her and sitting down. " Okay, Okay, I'll stay. I'll stay until you get out of here, okay, I'll help you get out of here."
With that he simply laid down again, somehow managing to wriggle his hand through the rubble and take hold of hers, as kind of assurance he wouldn't leave again.
" Goodnight, mon cheri."
" Goodnight..."
