Okay, but what if Jaskier played the theorbo instead of the lute?
It’s a beautiful instrument but it’s also... long.
[ID: three digital drawings arranged on a page. The first is Jaskier wearing a blue doublet, playing the theorbo, a lute with a longer neck and two pegboxes. In the second, Jaskier has it on his back in a case and is looking back, waving and grinning. The third is a small two-scene comic, in a simpler style: Jaskier is hunched with his theorbo on his back, looking down, and Geralt comes behind him, reaching out and saying “Jaskier, are you...”. In the second, Geralt finishes “...alright?”, Jaskier turns around and whacks Geralt in the face with the long neck of the theorbo, saying “yes?”. There are three sound effects: “thwack!” (theorbo), “ouch” (Geralt) and “oops” (Jaskier)]
Welcome to OCTAfan's Obscure and Weird Musical Instrument Tournament!
This is a (albeit very late) Tournament dedicated to a select few instruments that are very, VERY weird. From the relatively tame pipe organ and steelpan, to the odd hurdy gurdy and theorbo, to the absolutely insane laser harp and musical saw! What's the weirdest instrument?
Tournament starts on the 22nd of June. Each poll lasts 24 hours and is released one day at a time.
THIS IS VARY OLD!!! But I’m still in love with this design, one day I will be able to play him in a DND campaign in space. Or maybe star finder or something else just put my poor robot man in space!!! /CRY
It could even be fantasy spears I have an outfit for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I attended an etching workshop yesterday at a local museum. they brought out a few etchings by Rembrandt from the vault to serve as inspiration, which did put me in a 17th century mood, so I did a theorbo player [3 images below]
you'll notice the copper plate needs to be etched in reverse. of course lino cutting and woodblock follow the same principle, but etching feels so remarkably like sketching so mirroring the image takes some concentration
it's an incredibly fun and relaxing/meditative medium ! if it weren't for the steep barrier to entry (owning a press, working with acid) I'd've loved to take this up as a hobby

OCTAfan's Obscure and Weird Musical Instruments Tournament Round 1 Part 2: Theorbo VS Tonkori
The Theorbo is a stringed instrument of the lute family that's very, VERY large. It can get up to 6 feet in length and is basically a lute with a second fretboard with lower pitch notes. Very big, would probably spice up any TTRPG session if a bard have one of these guys and a lovely sounding instrument overall
Coming from Japan, the Tonkori is a sword-like stringed instrument that's played by the Ainu people of Japan. It also lacks frets and is played open. It's a pretty neat looking instrument.
