hello! so: i'm fairly new to vtm and i wanna read through the books, but i've heard that not all of them are worth reading, so i was wondering if you have any recommendations? thank you so much!

For starters, some caveats. First, anything touched by White Wolf Publishing is going to be some level of Awful. The best approach to World of Darkness, I find, is that of a vulture. Scavenge, pick the bones, find the delectable meat among the rot, and use that good stuff to fuel your imagination. VtM is horror, and all that horror entails. BUT the writers ALSO have a lot of unexamined bigotry they didn't put in the stories with intent. Yes, sometimes harmful content is there on purpose. A good example would be in the Coteries of New York visual novel. No matter which PC you pick, Baron Callihan says something tailored to insult them, to show off his gross character. So, to start, a general Content Warning for racism, sinophobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and misogyny. Geeeeeeennnneerrraaaalllllyyyy, the more modern the book the less this sort of bullshit appears.

My second caveat is way funnier. Uh, when I was in your position, starting my VtM books journey, I was equally overwhelmed by where to start. With some encouragement from fandom friends, I decided I would become the Beckett Fandom Elder. I focused all my reading on this feral nerd. Now I lounge in the decadence of pristine Beckett knowledge, such as he's Bride of Dracula.

Okay, enough caveats! I don't know how familiar you are with Vampire: the Masquerade to start with, so I'm going to assume you know nothing! Links to my reviews, when applicable.

The Victorian Age Trilogy by Philippe Boulle. This trilogy is a stellar introduction to the world of Vampire. Boulle does a fantastic job slowly revealing the world, its rules, quirks, and characters. The final novel doesn't quite stick the landing, but it's overall p fun. Highly, highly recommend.

The Book of Nod by Andrew Greenberg & Sam Chupp is an in-universe collection of myths centering Caine, the first vampire. Despite some hiccups, the writing is beautiful and presented like actual historical source, with footnotes, scholastic arguments, and introduction!

The Seduction of Goratrix and The Sword in the Tower by punk_pseudo are smutty romps that will make you smile and laugh! Gold-tier! Also that's TOTALLY the canon beginning of the Tremere Clan. :D :D :D

Vampire: the Masquerade - Corebook, Fifth Edition by Karim Muammar et al - after reading the above, I would read the Corebook. It's not a novel, but it will clarify any remaining questions about VtM.

Beckett's Jyhad Diary by Myranda Sarro et al. This is the Motherload for Beckett fans, and VtM fans. There's just SO MUCH. One podcast I listened to recommended the Diary as the first book to read, but I disagree. The Diary assumes you already know the basics and swims in the very deep end of lore. While reading, I had the White Wolf Wiki open beside me, because the writing would constantly reference something I didn't know.

Other books I heard were good but I haven't read myself:

Dark Ages Clan Novel Saga, Book 13: Tzimisce by Myranda Kalis centers on Sascha (then, Myca) Vykos and I've heard much goodness about it from @ryttu3k

Walk Among Us by Genevieve Gornichec, Cassandra Khaw, and Caitlin Starling. Audiobook only. Khaw is an incredible, award-winning writer so super looking forward to this.

Haunting Shadows: A Wraith 20th Anniversary Fiction Anthology is not Vampire, but my colleague Catherine Lundoff has a story in it and she's awesome :D Also she has a MILF lesbian werewolves series.

Now, those are a lot of recs. You can purchase them on DriveThruRPG or find them here. However, if you're looking at the first caveat and grimacing, if you read A Morbid Initiation and it is no, DITCH IT. a03 has mass troves of VtM fiction, and they're more in line with slick modern sensibilities like "hey maybe gender and racial minorities are people." Below are fanfiction that stand very well on their own, without serious prior knowledge of VtM. You might have to still look up some terms on the White Wolf Wiki, and again, these are very centered on Beckett.

Labyrinth of Blood and Silver Scales by AsunderWolf aka @lairofsentinel - meshes together Vampire and Mage into a twisty tale of gay time travel and very important handkerchiefs. Reminded me of the beauty in grief.

The City That Never Sleeps + Radio Silence by Martin Iceworth aka @robotslenderman - these center on New York City and the Nosferatu. The second one chronicles the NSA breaching SchreckNET, the vampire internet. Oops.

The Wolf and the Unicorn by alchemagician- a sweet adventure of Beckett and a Salubri woman who could step on me and I'd say thanks

The Creature Known as Emma Blake by DraculaBackwards aka @draculabackwards69 - rewrite of the Victorian Trilogy with ALL the good bits and ZERO of the bad bits. Unlike the above, this one's not all posted, but the first few chapters already have me swooning.

Other fanfic is Very Good, but they tend to require knowledge of what they're based on. For example, the every skyline was a kiss upon the lips by @ryttu3k needs to be stapled into the Diary. @draculabackwards69's wrote up some very important, missing plot beats of Anatole/Beckett and Beckett/Dracula. Retellings of Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines are popular. (Let's Play here. Antitribu Mod here. Final Nights Mod here.)

Wherefore Means Why by Sloane aka @meteormemoirs - a re-telling of Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines with an extra special Malkavian twist :D Not quite finished, but close.

So, for what they find attractive/what turns them on: In most cases, I'll generally treat both Webby and Lena as lesbians who only really like other women. That's generally my headcanon for them- however in horny settings I'm liable to change that, everyone tends to be bisexual in those. (Even then though, they've got a heavy female lean.)

Webby's largely turned on by titties and hips, and/or people with dark eyeshadow and a sultry expression who will make 'come hither' motions towards her.

Oh, or monsters. She is a definite monsterfucker- and I don't just mean werewolves and vampires (though that is a 100% yes to both of them for her, still), I mean she's the type of person to say 'hear me out' about Audrey Two. Even better- she's the type to say 'hear me out' about griffons.

Lena's also got a thing for tits and hips, but she's not really picky about how big or small said tits and hips are. She loves big chests and flat chests alike (which is good for Webby, as she doesn't really have the biggest of tits). She's also generally into people smaller than her, people she could -just theoretically, of course- eat as a light snack, should she be a werewolf. Totally hypothetically, of course.

She's also got a pretty big fixation on milfs. Which she realizes when she meets Della for the first time, and it doesn't ever really go away.

May and June, however, are both pan no matter what setting they're in: they're cursed to find pretty much everyone attractive. They don't really have many specific turn-ons, though. Really, it's more that they don't have any turn offs. They are, at the very least, always able to find something attractive.

Lena obviously sleeps with Webby the most, and tends not to sleep very much with May and June alone, actually. If she's sleeping with May or June, odds are the other is there, along with Webby. There have been a couple occasions where she's gotten May or June alone and slept with them then, however.

And even though Lena really enjoys domination, and loves the idea of breaking Webby, May, and June- she's honestly the softest of the bunch. Which says more about Webby, May, and June than it does about her.

Those three are masochists. Webby's the worst of the bunch, but May and June still really enjoy it as well. It works out in Lena's favor. The other thing that works out in Lena's favor is that, no matter what she does, she knows she could never really hurt Webby, May, or June. 10 times out of 10, if they were actually in a fight, Lena would lose. All of them know that- which is part of why they're all cool with Lena dominating them. They all know that Lena will listen to them if they genuinely ask her to stop, because if she didn't they could easily kill her.

And, much more importantly, she loves them and wants them to enjoy this and be safe. All four of them are also traumatized, however, so the 'They could all easily kill Lena' bit is what they all think of first. Including Lena.

Oh, and they are all very kinky. Webby's the most kinky, of course- she tends to surprise the others with what comes out of her mouth at times, but May and June are no slouches on coming up with kink ideas either.

And as far as most people know, Lena's not as kinky. And- well, she isn't.

But also, she has magic. And more specifically, she has dreams- dreams she can pull people into, where they can't really be hurt, or are in any true danger.

So let me just say- if you can imagine it, Webby, May, June, and Lena have probably done it. And had plenty of aftercare and whatnot once they were done experimenting.

Seriously- they're the queens of aftercare. Something about being into some pretty rough stuff makes them all understand the need of touching base afterwards. Lena and Webby are the best at it, of course, and Lena's taught May and June how to do so as well the times she's slept with them.

I’m not asexual and tbh I think it’s funnier and more entertaining to focus on the blood sucking part then the sexiness part with vampires. Sexiness is very boring to me in pop culture now because of how much it’s shoved in your face. Vampires can also have a lot off very cool lore and powers and setbacks but, at least with western depictions, they’re reduced down into sexy but dangerous creatures of the night :/.

Also a single milf is an outrage, it’s a depiction of abuse and neglect since milfs need at least one other milf to girlboss with and can easily become lonely and frustrated resulting in violent and aggressive outbursts if left alone too long. It’s almost equivalent to owning a rat, yes you could maybe get away with having one but it’s better to have at least 2 or 3.

EXACTLY. theres a lot of world building in this manga but its all kinda. pointing towards relationships. which can be interesting and it is, but its all kind of your typical bl kind of stuff. its def for some people but like i said, i guess im just not the target audience for this kind of vampire story. i want the bloodshed and the crying about lost humanity and internal struggle and stuff lol.

not to mention this book goes with the eternal youth sort of thing, so the only other lady is youthful looking, but at least she is also confirmed to be lesbian. but the only visibly old person in this manga is the one milf whos not even a vampire.

Alcina… I try to pick my fave thing about her design. And honestly she’s such a wild card for characters I like in aesthetics. Normally I like male characters despite being a lesbian. Naruto, Cloud Strife, Bakugo or Izuku I mean I could just rattle off a ton more but you get the idea. Like these characters are cool, strong and honestly really young. Then if you made me list female characters that I love Mercy from Overwatch and like Keira Metz from Witcher 3 are prime examples. (I have a thing for blondes)

Alcina is so special though. She’s older, very confident and powerful. She’s so outstandingly beautiful to me. That regal jet black hair, those eyes and her cute face. She’s just perfect and I’m weak as fuck for that body type. I love knowing someone is physically powerful but has a nice layer of fat over it so they don’t look like a solid muscle. Rwby Live Blog Part 1

hnnnng what if I live blogged my rwby rewatch It’s been like several years since I actually watched the show so I might get some stuff a little wrong heh, okay a lot wrong, I remember basically nothing. Starting with Volume 1, I plan to watch the first episode today and another episode every day until I catch up to the current volume, might take breaks if I have work to do, this is just a hobby and I need to prioritize other stuff before this.

Chapter 1: Ruby Rose Damn Red got that good music, I really like her design, it’s cool. So the ginger’s talking about dust, I think it’s kinda like gunpowder in it’s activation? Maybe it takes a spark to ignite whatever spell or something to activate? I really love this dust stuff so far, it seems really cool. OH FUUUUUUU, That huntress lady or whatever??? She has a staff thing and it just like, I bet it’s dust, but like, how does that work??? It started up a storm or something and it’s got point hail raining down??? That’s cool. The dark clouds are in a spirally thing that’s really cool. I also like her purple cloak but I don’t know why it’s all swirly at the ends, still cool. OKAY WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING. MAGIC???? Basically staff lady just used telekinesis or something by directing her wand and also the fire lady, gosh she’s hot, is using destructive fire magic or something, like it has weight to it which I can tell by how it slams into the ground. There’s no wand or anything though so like, maybe it’s like she has dust in her blood or something? And that’s how she can do magic??? That’d also make sense for wand lady, they got dust in their blood is my guess. Okay no I see more of this fire lady and she has glowing dress and that maybe means her clothes is a conduit for the dust magic. Yeah that makes sense. Oooo, so fire lady can deflect with her magic dust clothes too? Is she using the dust to hit the projectiles in the air before it hits or is she creating forcefields which deflect more widely??? Hmmmm. Oh my gosh red, that was adorable to ask your magic cop lady for an autograph, good for you girl, good for you. Hmmmm, so Red’s in trouble now for being a vigilante, is she even supposed to have a weapon like that like, girl looks 15, how can she have a blade gun??? So wand milf is talking about how she’s going to be sent home but then she’s implying that the punishment ain’t up to her, I wonder who’s in charge of wand milf then. Also what’s the structure for these “huntresses” Are they like, the defenders of the city and stuff? They hunt down criminals and those grim things which we haven’t seen yet, but how does the buisness work??? And what’s gonna happen to little Red? Ohhhh, we finding the big boss. Is it gonna be an even cooler milf? Tall vampire lady? Please be tall vampire lady. Damn. it’s an old guy with weird glasses, hasn’t brushed his hair from the looks of it. All I remember from this show is that ren and nora are my favorite’s, someone’s got an abusive family, there is ship discourse, lesbians, scary people and scary monsters, and the magic system’s fucked. Hmmmm, She got them gray eyes, I know that’s important but I got no idea how. YES! Thank you old man! I knew it was weird that she had a blade gun thing. Also, they be calling these schools weird, I think this is a private school thing, yeah that makes sense. YES GIRL! EAT ALL THEIR FOOD! LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND! Okay so her uncle’s one of her teachers, yeah I can feel the nepotism, so Red’s definitely not the one with the abusive family, now to find out which one it is, hmmmm. RED YOU ARE ADORABLE WITH THOSE LITTLE HAND THINGS ASJHFADLKJHS OH MY GOSH SHE’S RAMBLING, THAT’S PERFECT AHHHHHH Okay so there ARE police, damn, well I guess huntresses are cooler police but as we all know cops are pigs so hmmmm. I really really hope that there’s a corrupt system little red can destroy with her coolness but I’m already scared about how this system works.

Okay so back to the signal academy thing. Ruby has a sister who’s two years older than her, her uncle works at her current school, and she has a huge dangerous weapon on her at all times, uhhhhh, I fear the corruption a lot already, and what I’ve from what I’ve gotten so far, I’m not sure the creators are going to address the whole corruption thing for a while seeing as we haven’t met any good guys that aren’t fantasy cops so far. OKAY WHAT RUBY’S JUST RAMBLING IN FRONT OF HER FUTURE HEADMASTER SHE’S GOT SOME COURAGE. WHAT She’s actually going to Beacon two years early??? wtf >.> Red flags are already happening, this has to be about the silver eyes. Also, the framing of ozpin in the dark and ruby in the light *mwah* I can already tell that this guy has something wrong with him form that repeated framing style. The animation is moving around so much, bee sister’s thingies are just out there and her fashion blazer is wiggling, so weird. Golly, the digital art right next to the 3d modelling gives such a weird vibe. Also Roman Torchwick? Dang guy, that’s a sucky name. Rip my man’s whole vibe, he definitely got made fun of as a kid. Ahhhh, here’s the furries, so they are called “fauna” like, Just Animal??? Wow, Okay. I sense that there will be some pretty sucky metaphors made about racial inequality and stuff, ah well, I’m just here for the action and cool dust crap, oh and ren and nora, I wonder when they come in? Hmmm. “white fang” hmmm, I sense that’s a plot point, dang. “glenda goodwitch” wow they really selling to us that this is the good side huh. Still don’t like the points stuff for her cloak but it’s mostly because of how the art style makes it look.

Also have I made a comment yet about the sky ships? They are weird but cool. I like how they kinda look like sea creatures so far. Or just straight up helicopters but bigger. Both are cool.

So vomit boy is def a main character, wonder how that’ll go.

Chapter six is a mere fever nightmare that I can barely recall, but I just think it was very #girlboss of her to do crime and be opposed to davy. However she does lose points for being part of the bourgeoisie, marrying a total geek, and getting arrested while her daughter was getting eaten by vampires. 6/10

part 1 phantom blood. um jonathan (British) has some personal problems with his adopted brother dio brando (also british) and then dio kills their dad and becomes a vampire. jonathan gets shounen powers and a guy survives for like fifteen minutes after being cut in half. dio gets decapitated so jonathan went and got married but then dios decapitated head appeared on the boat and was like jonathan i respect you so i want to use your decapitated body as my own. and jonathan was like dude thats kind of fucked up but the boat blew up and dio did it anyway. erina survived though

part 2 battle tendency is like. joseph who is jonathans thotty grandson teams up with caesar zeppeli (italian) (gay) to defeat the pillar men which include kars (milf) esidisi (milfs live in boyfriend) wamuu (adopted son). another milf called lisa lisa trains them into their shounen powers and then esidisi shows up and kills the teachers aides and possesses lisa lisas assistant and then dies. basically they all get into this arena deathmatch involving zombie horses and kars grows wings and runs around all sexy for a little bit before getting launched into space. caesar gets crushed by a stone cross after making a gay ass speech. love loses. also it turns out lisa lisa was josephs mom the whole time.

part 3 stardust crusaders i kind of hate but i love the characters so basically jotaro kujo (josephs grandson) um he gets his stand and hes like whats this evil spirit i have to be locked in prison for everyones protection. and then his mom gets a stand too but sike women arent people so shes going to die. this is of course dios fault and they have to kill dio. kakyoin tries to kill jotaro and then jotaro pulls the worm out of his head and theyre best friends after that. polnareff tries to kill avdol and avdol sets him on fire and theyre [redacted] after that. they all go on a wacky roadtrip to cairo to kill dio during which kakyoin feeds a baby its own shit and avdol fakes his death for a little over a week. killing dio doesnt go great and vanilla ice sucks avdol into the void and kills their dog iggy and i hate watching that part. kakyoin is crushed under the weight of his own hubris. dio thinks hes sexy for being able to stop time but jotaro can also stop time and he kills dio. jotaros very traumatized due to the entire experience. for some reason both polnareff and joseph survive. the end

part 4 diamond is unbreakable is basically josuke higashikata whos josephs kid out of wedlock hunting down a serial killer with a hand fetish. jotaro is there hes a marine biologist now and josuke is technically his uncle. theres also josukes best friend okuyasu theyre a lil gay but thats alright we like them. also got short king koichi and yukako. and evil twink mangaka rohan. its like murder mystery except a lil more fucked up cause its jojo. ultimately kira (murderer with hand fetish) gets his ultimate powers that manipulate time and space but it doesnt even matter cause josuke has protagonist disease okuyasu dies for like 10 mins but he gets better. kira gets punched into the street by jotaro and then an ambulance runs him over and he dies.

part 5 vento aureo is giorno giovanna whos dios kid but hes also jonathans kid bc dio fucked with jonathans body and thats how giorno was born. he kind of acts like dio if dio had jonathans moral code and hes blond. anyway hes 15 and he joins the mafia because he wants to end heroin abuse and he ends up getting god timespace manipulation powers and killing the boss diavolo but half of his friends are killed horribly so that sucks. and then he becomes the don of the italian mafia. and hes still 15. also polnareff is there for a minute he gets killed sort of but his ghost possesses a turtle so hes giornos turtle after that i guess.

part 6 stone ocean my favorite part cause theres finally lesbianism. jolyne who is jotaros daughter is in prison bc she got framed for murder by her boyfriend. jotaros been an absent father due to him having personal problems. he shows up to break her out of prison but he gets his soul and his stand turned into discs and pulled out of his head and he goes into a coma and most of the rest is jolyne trying to get the discs back. she has 2 girlfriends called hermes and foo fighters who is technically a mass of sentient plankton. weather report (sexy) and anasui (ugly) are also there. the main antagonist is pucci who is a priest and was also dios best friend when he (pucci) was 16 for some reason. by the end they get jotaros discs back and pucci successfully starts manipulating reality itself and it turns out weather report was his brother all along and their backstory is REALLY fucked up and then jotaro comes back and anasui is like jotaro can i marry your daughter and hes like no and then everyone gets killed and pucci resets the universe but emporio the ten year old theyve been hanging out with gets weather reports stand and uses it to follow pucci through the universe resets and he ends up creating one where pucci never existed. it ends with “irene” kujo meeting hermes and anasui/weather report are also there. its implied that this is a new universe where none of the bad shit ever happened. emporio is crying. it kind of sucks

part 7 steel ball run i really dont know how to summarize but basically johnny joestar whos like alt universe jonathan but actually not really like that at all. hes also paralyzed from the waist down and he wishes he wasnt. um he meets an italian (gyro zeppeli) and they go on a horse race across america to track down the body of christ. they meet diego brando whos like dio but hes more about class warfare than megalomania and hot pants who has a stand that lets her turn her flesh into spray. diegos stand is that he can turn himself and other living things into dinosaurs. johnny can shoot his fingernails like bullets. anyway they end up fighting the president of the united states (funny valentine) who was trying to turn lucy steele whos only like 14 into a vessel for the corpse of jesus or something and he kills gyro and hotpants and diego and johnnys like this sucks but sends him into an infinite death loop bc hes a dimension hopper but he just keeps dying over and over again in any dimension he goes into. and he deserved it
