i. "hi." (fallow is the colour of dryness to my mouth when your eyes met mine.)
There's no way in hell you're going to let yourself be lost on the first day of university.
It's embarrassing enough accidentally waking up past your alarm and having barely any time to freshen up as much as you would like, so right now, you couldn't afford another disaster.
Taking a deep breath, you double-check your schedule and the layout of the campus on your phone, trying to match it with the signs around you. The different buildings and hallways of the campus seem like a maze in of itself, and you can feel the slight panic course up your veins. A sea of students rush past you, seemingly confident in their strides towards their own classes. A defeated sigh leaves you.
All you had to do was find the stupid art hallway.
You clench your phone tighter, your iron grip practically burning a hole through the screen. The campus map app wasn't making any more sense now than it did a minute ago. Frustration stings painfully at your eyes, but begging the earth to swallow you whole wouldn't get you to class any faster, so you force yourself to scan the crowd. There's bound to be at least someone who knows where it is and is willing to help you.
And so, your eyes catch sight of the first figure appearing conveniently in your peripheral vision𑁋a boy, dressed in a casual fallow-coloured flannel with a backpack casually slung over one of his shoulders, earphones in his ears, and peering down at something on his phone just like you were doing minutes ago (though he seems to be having a much better time than you)𑁋which was somehow enough for your feet to bolt you towards as if it had a mind of its own.
You feel the root of your nerves creep up your legs and branch up to your neck as you approach him, realising at this point, there's no turning back now. You tap him lightly on the shoulder, bracing yourself for a possible eye roll or annoyed sigh.
His eyes widen in surprise before settling on you, and at that moment, something strikes hard at whatever rehearsed lines you had in your head. It was all gone in a simple snap, from a simple look from him𑁋soft yet sharp brown eyes framed by dark lashes peering at you with a hint of surprise, fluffy dark hair showering down his neck and forehead a little, a dainty pair of silver earrings glinting at his ears. His whole face seems to hold a warmth that somehow eases a bit of the knot in your chest, but certainly not the one in your throat.
You open your mouth, but all the words die on your tongue. The air hangs heavy with a sudden awkwardness, and you can practically feel your cheeks burning. Maybe you should just turn around and pretend this never happened.
But then, you notice the way his lips lift up just slightly, and it makes your stomach do a flip. He glances down at his phone for a second, takes off his earphones, then brings his attention back at you.
"Hi," is all he says, and maybe, just maybe, your heart stops a little bit. It's just a simple word, but the way he says it𑁋all soft, quiet, a tad bit hesitant𑁋makes the fabric of your shirt feel tight on your body.
You didn't notice you were clenching your fists until you force them to relax at your side, clearing your throat in the process.
"Hi," You manage back nervously, surprised at how breathless you sound. "Sorry, I-I don't mean to intrude. It's just... Do you happen to know where the art hallway is? I'm trying to find my photography class."
You watch the way he tucks a loose strand of hair behind his ear, unveiling more of a view of his piercings. He gazes briefly behind you at the clusters of other students gradually spilling into different hallways, hushing the space where the two of you stood. Then he returns his attention back to you, his expression softening slightly.
"You're not that far off," he comments, seemingly amused. "I was just heading there myself too."
"Really? That's a relief. The campus map is awful and confusing, and I swear this place was designed on purpose for you to get lost in, you know? And being lost on the first day is just..." You quickly shut your mouth up from your rambling, letting your voice fade into an embarrassed chuckle instead.
Your gaze falls to the ground for a moment, and when you pick your head back up to look at him, you catch a glimpse of the small curve that he has at his lips, barely a hint of a smile playing there. It's a small detail, but suddenly it feels like the most important thing in the world, and it throws your train of thought completely off track. He doesn't seem bothered by your little habit of rambling (admittedly, because of nerves), thankfully. Instead, he lets out a soft laugh, the sound washing over you like a warm summer breeze.
You can't help but sheepishly grin back, feeling a certain lightness bloom within your chest that probably has nothing to do with the weight of your backpack suddenly seeming lighter as well.
"It's okay," he reassures, voice as quiet and gentle as his gaze. "Everyone gets lost here sometimes. I've been there."
He starts walking, and you hesitate for a second before falling into step beside him. There's a small part of you urging to get to know him, as if this was the only opportunity to do so, but all the words you want to say sound clumsy and loud compared to the easy peacefulness that surrounds him.
And honestly, it feels... nice.
The hallway he leads you in is perhaps more than just a simple art hallway, the intoxicating scent of oil paint and clay blend together in the air. Paintings by students and faculty of every style imaginable line the walls, some bursting with vibrant colours, others muted and contemplative. Sculptures poke out from odd corners, and bulletin boards are overflowed with announcements of upcoming exhibitions and workshops, even though the year just started.
"Welcome to the art hallway," he beckons you casually and welcomingly, as if only this portion of the campus was a separate entity than others.
You let out a breath you didn't realise you were holding in. "Thank you so much. Wow, this place is, um..." You stop yourself from continuing on, zipping your mouth shut. "I owe you. Oh, I'm Y/N, by the way. If there's anything I can𑁋"
"There's no need." He waves a hand dismissively at your offer, and for a second you feel something inside you sink, but the small hint of a smile to his face chases that feeling away just a little. "And it's Minghao... yeah. I'll see you around."
Before you can say anything more, you watch as he turns himself around and swiftly enters inside the room standing right behind him. A painting class.
(You are eight minutes late to class when a near-clear picture on the wall catches your gaze. It looks like a picture of Minghao standing next to a particularly vibrant painting of abstract art, and your heart swells just a little bit more.)

ii. "hi." (laurel is the colour of the grass that you lay on with me, gazing up at the same sky together.)
There was a time during Minghao's first year of college where a friend of his𑁋Lee Jihoon is his name𑁋called him crazy and bonkers for spending majority of his day outdoors rather than inside. Obviously, Minghao didn't exactly care, nor was it insulting in the slightest knowing Jihoon's stubbornness and tendency to stay holed up in his room buried under piles of music textbooks.
But he would be lying if he said he didn't appreciate the outdoors more than anything else, like from the way the sun kisses upon his skin, the gentle breeze that caresses his face, and the colours of nature that found him at his lowest times. Minghao thinks that's how he got into painting and art in the first place, though he didn't dwell on it too much. It all just came natural to him. He likes to think it that way𑁋that it found him instead.
The scenery of the campus is his oasis. He can do his own thing while others are walking through their own lives. He can sit outside for as long as he wants until dusk settles in and paints the sky with hues of orange and pink, or until the stars twinkle above and remind him that he's just an utter speck in the universe.
Today is no different.
Minghao finds himself sprawled out on the grass near the art building, sketchbook propped up against his bent knees, brow furrowed in concentration as he tries to capture the way the afternoon sunlight filters through the leaves of a nearby tree in his line of sight.
A low breeze runs through the air, stirring a few strands of hair across his forehead. He brushes them back absentmindedly, just as a sound cracks into the quietness.
"Hi!"
Minghao shoots his eyes up, slightly startled from the unexpected greeting. He catches sight of you slowly approaching up to him, a hesitant smile gracing your lips as you stop a few feet away.
"Hi," he replies, voice soft as he notices the way you're fiddling with something behind your back. "Vending machine did its ol' thing again?"
"Can you always read my mind?" You murmur, teasing annoyance biting at your words, but you can't contain the smile to your face either way. Maybe he can read your mind, but he's just skimming over it instead. "I can take it if you prefer to die from dehydration."
Minghao chuckles lightly. He glances down at the water bottle in your hand, then back at you, lingering for a beat longer than necessary. There's a flicker of amusement in his dark eyes, but also a hint of something𑁋maybe surprise, mischief, or perhaps a touch of shyness.
(You don't catch the way he subconsciously pushes the other water bottle he had stashed earlier deeper into his backpack.)
"Thanks." He accepts the water bottle from your hand, his fingers brushing against yours for a second, and takes a quick sip to cool his slightly parched throat.
Then he sets the water bottle down beside him, patting the grass next to him invitingly.
Without a word, you take a deep breath and lower yourself down onto the grass next to him. You catch the scent of the fresh paint lingering on his clothes and blending with the earthy aroma of the grass beneath you. The sunlight catches on the side of his face, highlighting some strands of hair flying in the breeze and the silver earrings reflecting in his ears.
There's a small groan that leaves you when you get yourself to lay fully down on the grass, using your backpack as a makeshift pillow. Minghao just peers in your direction curiously, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips as he watches you settle in.
"You know," You sigh, letting out a contented breath as you spread your arms out a little, fixing your eyes up towards the sky. "This is actually really nice, hanging outside and all, but I am so out of shape. You pick the worst spots."
Minghao's smile widens a fraction at your words. He shifts his own gaze to the sky, observing as the clouds drift lazily overhead, fingertips kneading at the laurel-coloured grass below. The soft yet vibrant green reminds him of a new set of paints he recently bought.
"I think you'll survive lying on a patch of grass, Y/N."
"Not if I get up and there's a goddamn earthworm crawling in my ear, Hao."
"Just don't fall asleep, and you'll live."
You let out a giggle, though you wouldn't be lying if you said that the warmth hitting your body was making you feel just the tiniest bit of drowsy. "No promises there."
The silence that lingers between you and Minghao isn't uncomfortable, but it's not exactly filled with chatter either. It's a comfortable silence, with the distant sounds of other students laughing like white noise and the occasional rustle of a breeze flying past your ears.
It's always like this when you're here together, a quiet that feels more familiar than the few months you've known him. Whether it's your little study sessions at the library, or when you hang out with him after hours in his painting class, it's familiar being around him. The thought settles around you like a well-worn blanket, a comfort you didn't know you craved until you found it here.
You glance over back at Minghao, who seems to be focused back on his sketchbook. He taps his pencil against his bottom lip in concentration. There's a small smudge of charcoal on his nose that you pinpoint, just hardly noticeable, but it makes you want to reach out and brush it away with your thumb.
The bold thought makes your stomach churn.
"Lay down with me, Hao."
The words leave you before you can stop them, surprising even yourself. A blush creeps up your neck, warming your cheeks as you continue watching Minghao. He's still focused on his sketchbook, but the tapping of his pencil against his lip has ceased. He looks down at you, eyes widening slightly in surprise before softening into a gentle smile.
"Lay down?" he asks, a teasing lilt in his voice.
"Y-Yeah," You stammer, suddenly wishing you'd phrased it differently. "I mean, if you want. The sky looks better from here, you know?"
Minghao just tilts his head to the side as if in contemplation, before closing his sketchbook and shifting his position. He tosses his backpack right next to yours, laying himself down on the grass and stretching his body in relief. The grass crinkles softly beneath him, his arm briefly brushing against yours, and you can feel the warmth radiating from his body as he settles in, peering up at the sky with you.
He's painted the sky many times, but for some reason, it feels different looking at it right now, and he isn't entirely sure why.
"What's the weirdest colour you've painted with?"
The sudden question makes Minghao sit up slightly, leaning on his elbow to face you better. The corners of his lips are pulled up in the hint of a smirk.
"Goose turd green."
His eyes detail the way your face contorts in slight disgust, before nothing but laughter tumbles out of you, and Minghao thinks he'd never get tired of hearing that sound.

iii. "hi." (vermilion is the colour that seeps through my cheeks when the alcohol beats me and i think about you.)
"Y/N𑁋jeez, how much did they drink tonight?"
"I don't even know𑁋woah, hey! Hold them steady, wait..."
"I'll take them back to their place," Minghao tells the other two boys struggling to keep you from falling over in their hold.
Mingyu and Seokmin stare at him for a second, exchanging a glance with each other before guiding you into Minghao's hold carefully. Minghao secures an arm around your waist, loosely at first, before tightening instantly because you're just about to fall out of his grip. He bids the other guys goodbye, then sets off with you towards your dorm.
"Are you alright?" he asks, even though he knows the answer already. "I told you before that you should know your limits."
You giggle, a wobbly, off-key sound. "Oh, I feel peachy, thank you so much."
Minghao just sighs, shaking his head slightly as he adjusts his hold on you, making sure you're steady on your feet.
The walk back to your dorm is painfully slow. Streetlights cast an orange glow on the sidewalk, painting long shadows that seem to dance alongside you. You lean heavily against Minghao, head hanging down to the ground, your footsteps unsteady. The world seems to tilt and sway with every giggle that escapes you.
Your vision is a bit blurry when your dorm comes into sight. Relief washes over you, and you lean even heavier into Minghao, practically melting into him by the time you reach your door and it swings open.
He steps you inside, moving you past the shoe rack by the entrance and towards your bed, and you flop down on the plush mattress with a low groan, nearly dragging down Minghao on top of you.
He catches himself just in time, a hand landing on the mattress beside you with a soft thud, and suddenly he's hovering above you, his breath catching with the sudden closeness of his body pressed up against yours. However, it just makes a laugh bubble out of your throat from deep within your chest, and with half-lidded eyes, you find yourself staring dazedly up at him.
"Wow, hiiii, you're like..." You drawl your words and tap aimlessly at his shoulder. "You're like... so pretty, you know? Have I told you that before?"
Heat creeps up Minghao's neck. He blinks down at you, eyes trailing over your face and cheeks which were stained a soft shade of vermilion from all the alcohol earlier. A small, surprised airy laugh escapes his lips.
He opens his mouth to respond, but nothing comes out. And even after pulling away from you, you continue, voice thick with inebriation.
"And your smile? Oh, don't even get me started," You slur, a goofy grin plastered on your face. "Those big, cute eyes you have? They, like, make the whole world look... sparkly."
"Y/N, you need𑁋"
"And whenev... whenever you paint," You continue, voice trailing off away. The world seems to be spinning a little slower now, the grin to your face faltering for a moment, replaced by a furrowed brow as you try to focus on the thought. "Yeah, whenever you paint... you get this... this really focused look on your face. Like the world fades away and all that's left is the canvas. It's kind of... hot."
Minghao could simply only stare at you. He knows he should probably get you settled into bed and leave, but his feet seem rooted to the floor below. His gaze flickers up and down your face, then back up to your eyes, searching for any sign of what you just said being a joke. But all he sees is a genuine, albeit slightly hazy and inebriated, fondness.
"You think so?" he finally manages to ask.
"Yeah," You mumble knowingly as if instinctive, eyelids drooping closed a little further. "Makes you look, uh... determined. Like you could𑁋like you could paint the stars out of the sky or something."
Minghao cowers his head down for a second, before looking back up at you, crossing his arms together bemusedly. "Do you want me to paint the stars for you?"
You give a dreamy nod. In your cloudy mind, the idea sounds incredibly romantic, like something out of a dream.
"I think..." You start once again. "that would really make me like you even more."
Minghao feels his lips twitch, somewhat hopeful yet also reluctant, before letting out another sigh.
"You need to go to bed." He walks back over and helps pull the covers over you. "I'll leave you some water and meds to take in the morning, okay?"
A pang of disappointment shoots through you as he pulls away, a sleepy pout crossing over your features. You watch him with heavy eyelids, the room tilting ever so slightly with each passing beat of your heart.
"Wait," You murmur, grabbing weakly at his sleeve.
Minghao turns back around. You're looking at him, eyes a little more focused now, a hint of a playful smile on your lips, and shooting him a look that means business.
"Don't forget the stars, okay, mister?"

iv. "hi." (pewter is the colour of the clouds when the earth can't hold it in much longer, and the words burst all at once.)
It hits you on a random Wednesday near the end of the month during an exam on English Romanticism that you simply can't stand this anymore.
You're avoiding Minghao, purposely attending more study sessions that your classmates offer and taking up more shifts at the small café across from campus that you applied for a while ago to make some extra bucks. You know you're avoiding him, and he probably knows it too, and it's all your fault𑁋you're letting him get away and slip through the cracks between your fingers.
Minghao's art had been selected for a prestigious exhibition out of town, and he was set to leave at the end of the month for this internship just as summer is starting, and the thought of him being gone brings a hollow ache to your chest. It's becoming unbearable each passing day, each millisecond that passes knowing you've been so stupidly immature to push him away when he's quite literally been the best thing that has happened to you.
You may never understand how Xu Minghao𑁋this sophisticated, well-mannered, and endlessly talented artist𑁋had managed to wriggle his way into your heart so effortlessly, but there he was, occupying every crevice and corner with his gentle smiles and soft laughter that seem to flip the world over. He was just this sentient, living breathing form of peace that you can’t seem to let go of.
When another boom of thunder shatters outside, you think, screw this.
Screw avoiding him. This wasn't how this story was supposed to end.
You're quick to shove your belongings back in your bag the moment your class ends. The rain has calmed down a little when you step outside, which only seems to fuel the determination within you.
With a deep breath, you pull your jacket tighter against your body, and start to spring across campus. The rain might be getting heavier with each passing minute, but you don't care. All you care about is getting to Minghao before the storm within you bursts too.
Reaching his dorm building, you're merely a shivering mess, hair damp and plastered to your forehead and clothes clinging uncomfortably to your skin. You barely have the breath to push open the heavy doors, collapsing against them for a moment to catch your breath.
But just as you're about to push open the door, a figure blocks your way, and you peer up to see Minghao standing in front of you. There's an umbrella clutched in his hand, and a puzzled look etches across his features when he takes sight of your disheveled appearance in front of him. You could only gaze at him.
"Hi," You say breathlessly, as if you've been holding on to the singular word for dear life.
Minghao just blinks a few times, unsure if he's looking at you as if you were crazy or if he's just imagining you.
"Hi," he finally responds, voice all gentle and slightly hesitant.
You glance down at the umbrella in his hand. "Are you going somewhere?"
Minghao opens his mouth to respond, also looking down at the umbrella in his hands as if magically appeared there out of thin air, then a bashful look crosses his face.
"I forgot some supplies back in class, so I thought I'd grab them before the storm gets any worse," he explains somewhat lamely, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "But I𑁋Are you... are you okay?"
You give a loose nod, then shake your head dismissively right afterwards. Gosh, you're losing it.
Minghao clears his throat. "What are you doing out here in the rain? You're going to get sick𑁋"
"You know I-I like you, right?" The words stumble clumsily over your tongue, shattering whatever fragile tension was building up between you two. "And you probably knew that already, to be honest, because you always seem to know me better than I know myself. But the thought of you leaving just... scared me, and I panicked and pushed you away."
A lump forms in your throat. Minghao's expression is practically unreadable in front of you. There's a mix of surprise, a hint of something that could be hurt, and something else you can't exactly decipher.
You let out a dry chuckle, embarrassment crawling up your face but you try to ignore it as much as you can.
"I-I know I sound crazy right now," You say, forcing a smile that seems more like a grimace. "But I... I couldn't let you leave without knowing how I feel. So yeah. I like you. A lot. Maybe more than that. I don't know. It sort of scares me, honestly."
You wait a few moments, simply standing there in the falling rain while anticipating just anything from the boy standing in front of you as if the world had come to a pause. His silence stretches suffocatingly long, nothing but a cloud swirling in those beautiful eyes of his.
Then he looks down at the umbrella in his hand for a moment, then back at you, his gaze lingering on your soaked clothes and shivering form. And just before you can spiral into a wave of panic, Minghao steps forward close to you. Without a word, he unfurls the umbrella and holds it over your head, tilting it slightly to ensure you're fully covered from the rain.
"Let's get you out of this rain," he says finally, low and calm. "You're freezing."
"I..." You start, then stop, giving a muted nod. "Okay."
Minghao leads you back inside his dorm building and up to his room, the warmth seeping overwhelmingly into your bones. He ushers you into his space, the door swinging shut with a soft click behind you.
You've been inside Minghao's room before, but it feels different now, more intimate somehow. The air hangs heavy as you awkwardly perch yourself on the edge of his bed, careful not to let the water dripping off you land on his sheets, and you watch as he quietly makes his way to his closet and disappears behind the hanging clothes. A moment later, he emerges with a soft, oversized hoodie and a towel in hand.
"Here." He holds out the towel and hoodie towards you. "Dry yourself off and change out of those clothes."
The softness of the towel against your skin is the equivalent to luxury as you meticulously pat down your hair and face. You shoot glances at Minghao across the room, seeing him busy himself at his desk, back turned to you, a low hum escaping his lips.
You slip on the oversized hoodie, the familiar scent of Minghao washing over you and instantly relaxing your jittery nerves. The sleeves hang past your fingertips, the material engulfing you in a comforting warmth.
"Feeling a little better?" Minghao asks, turning around to face you after a few minutes. You hardly notice the way his gaze sweeps over your form, lingering on the way the hoodie basically swallows you.
A shy, self-conscious look crosses your features. "Yeah, um... Thanks."
Minghao returns the smile, though there's a hint of something else in his eyes𑁋perhaps relief or maybe even a touch of fondness. "Always."
That particular silence passes again as you both sit in his room, the only sound the soft patter of rain against the window. You fidget nervously with the sleeves of his hoodie.
Then, you let out a sigh. "Look, Hao𑁋"
"Do you want anything to drink?"
The offer zips your mouth back up, leaving your unfinished words hanging in the air. Is he... trying to brush away everything that has just happened in the last fifteen minutes? All just like that? You nearly want to scoff at the thought, but you bite at your bottom lip instead, a pang of disappointment settling in your chest.
"Honestly?" You lay your hands flat on your lap. "I'd kill for a hot chocolate right now."
Minghao just chuckles softly. "Okay," Then another long, considerable pause. "Are you working at the café later on?"
The thought of working right now makes you cringe internally. "No, thank goodness. My shift actually got swapped with someone else. Lucky break, I guess."
The corners of Minghao's mouth lift up subtly. He glances back out the window, seeing that the rain had become much lighter and cleared up significantly, revealing the sky in a palette of muted greys. His gaze returns to you, a thoughtful expression painting his features.
"Let's go then," he asserts firmly, rising up to his feet.
You raise an eyebrow at him. "What? Right now? To the café?"
"Mhm."
"But you can't𑁋we can't just𑁋"
"It's a date," Minghao affirms, cutting your words off promptly. "My treat."
His words catch you off-guard, and for a moment, you're at a loss for words. Your mouth hangs down to the ground, warmth crawling up the cheeks just like the hot chocolate you desperately crave right now. You can feel your heart pounding furiously out of your chest and whatever tension coiling in your stomach dissipating away.
"A... date?" You squeak out, voice coming out small and weak.
Minghao's lips purse together in a thin line. "Unless you have other plans𑁋"
"Oh no, no, no," You blurt out, finding yourself already breathless for no reason at all, struggling to keep the giddy grin forming on your face at bay. "A date sounds perfect, actually."
Relief floods over Minghao's features. He lets out a little giggle, the kind that always makes your insides do a little happy flip.
"Good," he responds simply. "I'm glad."
"Do I get to pay next time?" You ask teasingly as you stand up. "If there is a next time, at least."
Nothing but amusement dances in his eyes.
"We'll see about that."

v. "hi." (calamine is the colour staining your cheeks and your lips against my ear.)
Minghao's lips are on yours before you have the opportunity to breathe in the air of relief of the hotel room.
It's not hard for your body to melt into him instinctively, the kiss soft yet desperate, tender yet urgent. You find your fingers kneading at the silky material of the suit that he wore, and his hand coming to rest on your lower back. Both of your feet move in mere unison together before you feel the edge of the bed nudge the back of your knee.
When the two of you pull back for a minute to breathe, all you can do is faintly chuckle.
"You act like you haven't seen me in years," You tease, letting a hand come to toy with his tie. "Did you miss me that much?"
Minghao's gaze only flickers between your eyes, your lips, and down the outfit that seems to hug your body just perfectly, before settling back up to your face. His own face is close enough to yours that you swear you could pinpoint the flecks of stardust in his irises. He's simply staring at you with nothing but adoration, his gaze so intense like he's trying to memorise every little detail etched on your face, even if he's already done so many times. He's painted stars on your skin with his fingertips, lips, whispered words, and his heart.
And then he's kissing you again, more softly and slower this time, the weight of his body following your own as you fall back down on the bed behind.
Missing you is more than just an understatement. Being separated from you felt like this physical piece of him was missing from his chest. His art had been reaching the rightful hands of museums abroad just as he deserves, and you had gotten used to him travelling for days on end to attend exhibitions and workshops.
You jumped on the first opportunity to be able to visit him. And now, with you in his arms and your lips pressed against his, Minghao feels like he's finally whole again.
His mouth pulls away from the sweet spot to your neck, trailing a soft path back up to your lips, giving you a small kiss before pulling back to look at you. You hear the way his breath hitches in his throat, the feeling of his hand coming to interlock with yours at your side, the metal of the ring on his finger meeting your skin.
You peer up at him longingly, lovingly, a tiny smile playing at the corners of your lips.
"Hi," You whisper, a breathless laugh escaping you.
Minghao's gaze softens even further, his thumb tracing gentle circles on the back of your hand as he leans back down.
"Hi, dearest," he murmurs back affectionately, adjusting himself so that his mouth is near your ear, barely grazing against the shell as he whispers, "You're beautiful."
You could only giggle as he retreats himself away slightly, but you tug him by the tie again to bring him back down. "Yeah? What else?"
There's a thoughtful look that crosses over his features, his cheeks painted an ethereal shade of calamine pink, mirroring the flush of warmth that spreads across your own face. You've always grown accustomed to Minghao's fairly quiet nature, however it doesn't take much to read over even the most imperceptible shifts in his expressions. Whenever words seem to be too shy or hesitant to come out, the stars in his eyes speak for him.
Minghao just lowers himself even more, the ghost of his lips hardly brushing back against yours.
"I love you."

“you’re getting sleepy, aren’t you?”
“i’m fine…” minghao tells you in a slurred voice, although he’s had his eyes closed for a good five minutes now. but he just can’t help it: sat between your legs as you’re meticulously drying his hair, he’s feeling too comfortable to stay awake.
“i’m almost done” you tell him as you keep guiding the dryer in circular motions, your fingertips lightly grazing his scalp.
the night fell a few hours ago, its tranquility only disrupted by the occasional cars passing by your street. the bedside lamp on your right acts as your only source of light, splashing orange shades on the walls.
you’ve always felt at home with minghao. the calming patterns of his voice, his arms that know exactly how and when to hold you, his genuine laughter at your stupidest jokes.
and you’ve been spending so much time at his place lately, you could even say you feel at home in his home, sometimes staying by yourself for a full day.
obviously he’s not asking for anything in return, but you do it anyways. cooking, cleaning, buying groceries… everything he tells you not to bother with.
“i’m done”, you state as you unplug the drier and roll its wire on itself.
minghao mutters a sleepy ‘thank you’, and you feel him leaving a kiss on the side of your knee before climbing into bed.
it takes you less than a minute to put the drier back in the bathroom’s cabinet, but it was enough time for your boyfriend to have tucked himself under the covers, his eyes closed in a peaceful expression.
you fight back the urge to tease him, just in case he’s actually sleeping already, and walk around the bed to turn off the light on his nightstand.
“move in with me”
minghao’s voice is soft as ever, nothing more than a whisper. his lips are spread in a barely noticeable smile as he watches you freeze for a second.
“officially? i mean, full-time?” you ask, an obvious happiness blooming in your voice.
“full time and maybe forever” he tells you while lifting the covers as an invitation.
you suddenly forget about turning the light off, only thinking about bending down to pepper his face in kisses, enough for him to understand that you couldn’t be happier about that offer.
with each kiss, minghao’s smile grows bigger and bigger, until he wraps his arms around you to drag you to bed himself. your bed.
“i love you” you whisper, a hand caressing his cheek.
“i love you too” he replies, snaking one arm out of the covers to finally turn the lights off.
and as you drift off to sleep, you both relish the warm feeling of knowing that this is what all your nights are going to look like from now on. peaceful, tender, and most importantly, at home.

QUESTION ??
gn!reader, 0.3k words
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“babe i need to ask you something” you looked over at minghao, the both of you cuddled with each other in bed. you’d spent the better part of the last hour scrolling through your phone when a tiktok you saw had a question that piqued your curiosity.
your boyfriend hummed a response, putting his own phone down in favour of giving you all of his attention.
“do guys really hate it when their partners are clingy?” minghao thought the little pout on your lip was so cute, what’s even cuter is you probably weren’t even aware you had it.
“where’d this come from?” he laughed at the question. it sounded a little odd to him, he couldn’t imagine not adoring the affection you give him- let alone ever hate it.
“i saw this” you showed him the tiktok you’d seen.
he looked at it for a few seconds and went through the comments too. it looked like for the most part a lot of guys were disagreeing with the statement.
“oh yeah babe, because i’d absolutely despise being cared for in a healthy relationship” he mumbled sarcastically, making a point of cuddling up impossibly closer to you.
minghao wrapped his arms around you, putting your head on his shoulder and squeezing you tight.
“i really was not the right person for you to mention clinginess to by the way- i stick to you for 18 hours a day”
“and i love that-”
“so then why would you think i don’t?” he teased, “don’t listen to these stupid tiktok’s babe there’s a new thing everyday it’s better not to stress about it”
“yeah but-” you started but minghao quickly stopped you by pressing his lips to your own.
“have i ever given you reason to think i don’t like you being clingy with me?” he smiled softly, cupping your face in his larger hands.
he giggled when you nodded slowly, pout reappearing. “then don’t worry about it, yeah?”

heads up! alcohol mentions
minghao flops into the space next to you, already looking exhausted even though he's only been here for maybe half an hour. not that you can blame him: you came outside to hide from the others after fifteen minutes of listening to drunk yelling and singing. apparently, seungcheol, mingyu, and soonyoung all pre-gamed for this party. you're still pretty sure you can still hear them over the music. both of you showed up late here (minghao fashionably late, you had just been plain late due to traffic).
but you don't expect minghao to rest his head on your shoulder, letting out a slow sigh before he settles in to watch you play sudoku on your phone. wordlessly, you just reach up to pat his cheek a few times before going back to your game. he snuggles in a little, face warm against your shoulder (and it hits you that he's definitely drank a bit, too) before he's finally become comfortable.
"are you okay?" you ask after a moment. he wordlessly nods, and you just settle in. "not in a social mood?"
he shakes his head. his voice is so small when he speaks to you now, all shy and soft--when was the last time minghao was shy around you...? "am i bothering you?"
"not at all," you hum. "just wanted to check on you."
he smiles, and snuggles back in before shutting his eyes. "thank you. you're sweet."
the tranquility won't last long--not with the bunch of friends you two have. but you enjoy it all the same, and don't say a word when his hand curls around yours after you start watching videos together. that's a conversation for later. for now, you'll just intertwine your fingers with his, enjoying the warmth of his hand in yours.

To all the love letters I wrote but never sent | Xu Minghao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Synopsis: what happens when your best friend, minghao, finds the secret stash of love letters you’ve been writing to him over the past few years?  Minghao x gn! reader | fluff, best friends to lovers | w.c | warnings: mention of a drug (minghao is said drug) | not proof read A/n: happy birthday @haecien! Idk, when i think of you i think of letters… can you tell?
Tumblr media
For years, you’ve been utterly and hopelessly in love with your best friend, Minghao.
At first, you thought it was just a passing phase of infatuation. You know the one which happens when you begin to get a little too close to your best friend? It’s the time when you begin to sit a little closer to them, you begin to lean into them, share secrets with them, stare into their eyes as they talk and then watch as their eyes stare back intensely at you. Your mind starts to make weird connections that maybe these actions aren’t so platonic anymore? Maybe, just maybe there’s a spark between the two of you?
You didn’t really bother to think too much about it, thinking that the phase would eventually run its course, that it would eventually pass. He’s your best friend after all. There’s going to be some level of connection or intense emotions shared between the two of you. It will pass, and then everything will go back to normal.
Oh you were so wrong. What you thought would be a simple passing phase of infatuation turned into a full blown crush, one which you could not control. Everything about Minghao was so infuriatingly intoxicating. You hated how attentive he was, you hated how pretty his eyes were, you hated the way he had with words, you hated all the details you noticed about Minghao because they only made you fall in love with him more. The more details you noticed about Minghao, the more time you spent with him, the more you wanted him, and the more you needed him. He was like a drug, one that you couldn’t get enough of. You lived off the high of being near him, all while hating the fact that he was yours, but not in the way you wanted. He was your best friend. Not, your boyfriend.
You hid your feelings of course, behind a smile and the facade of a supportive, loving best friend, out of fear your feelings would change the friendship you held so dearly to your heart. You were scared your feelings would frighten him, chase him away. Because as much as the proximity between you and Minghao pained you, it gave you the pleasurable high you never ever wanted to come down from.
But the pain of being near someone who you believed would not, and could not love you back was overwhelming. It began to consume you. You needed an outlet. You needed a way to write down all the feelings you had for Minghao, just in a way he would never find out.
So, you settled on pouring your feelings out through letters. You guided your pen across the paper, letting the ink act as your messenger for the heartfelt words you longed to tell him. Whenever you felt like your feelings for Minghao were too much, you would write. You chuckled at how silly it was, writing letters to someone who was never supposed to receive them. Still, it must have worked because writing everything down helped to soothe the pain in your heart until it was only a dull ache.
Months and years passed. Your stash of secret love letters seemed to only grow thicker with each passing day. And you swore to yourself that Minghao would never find out about the letters.
Or, at least that was what you thought. Life always seemed to throw you unexpected curveballs, though, not all of them were bad.
࣪𓏲ּ ᥫ᭡ ₊ ⊹ ˑ ִ ֶ 𓂃
“Y/n! Do you have my charger? I think I left it in your room the last time I was over!”
“You… Hao! You’re always leaving things over, maybe you should just move in! It should be in one of the drawers at my desk. Try the one on the bottom left!”
Snickering at your frustrated tone, Minghao walked over to your desk. His eyes scanned the books and sticky notes scattered across your desk. You would never change would you? You were always going to be that messy person he met on the first day of grade six in school. Well, that was just one of the many, many things he adored about you.
Flushing at the thought, Minghao shook his head. He needed to find his charger to charge his dying phone, not charge the (definitely not platonic) feelings he had towards you that only seemed to grow stronger with each passing day. Crouching over your desk, he pulled the bottom left drawer open. He clicked his tongue once again when he saw his charger lying within a mess of twisted cords and wires. He picked it up, and shut the drawer. He was going to have to teach you the art of tying your wires together neatly, again.
As Minghao was about to get up, a shiny box tucked beside your desk caught his eye. Pulling the box up with him, he lightly swept his hand across the top to remove the dust that had piled on there. He shook the box gently. What was in it? Since when did you have this box? Raising it to his eye level, he inspected the box closely. Noticing some writing at the bottom, he squinted.
“To all the love letters I wrote but never sent”
Love letters? Slightly taken aback, Minghao almost dropped the box. He knew you were hopelessly pining after some guy for years. You had told him that. It pained him to know your heart belonged to someone else, but he always told you to go for it. You never know, maybe the guy you like liked you back. Somehow, you never did. Wanting to respect your boundaries, he never pushed you further than that.
Minghao sighed. He should really put this back. This was obviously your private stash of love letters to the guy you were pining after. He gripped the box tightly at the thought of you hunched over, pouring your heart out on paper to someone that wasn’t him. His heart clenched. You’ve loved this guy for years, and he did want to know who this idiot was. Which idiot were you so afraid to confess to? Maybe it was Junhui, one of your other best friends. You two were close, and he knew Junhui had a small, tiny crush on you. Minghao growled a little, Junhui…. That little… The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he got.
Minghao was torn. He really wanted to know who you loved. But no, he would never invade someone’s privacy and breach their trust like that. He would never do that to anyone, especially not to you.
“Hao?”
Your voice broke Minghao out of his intense train of thought. Alarmed, Minghao peered up at you, “I’m sorry! I saw this shiny box! I didn’t open it though!”
You stared at the box in Minghao’s hands, wide eyed. He found it? Fidgeting on the spot, you bit your lip, trying to calm the hot flush that was rising quickly up your face. You knew Minghao was telling the truth, he wouldn’t open the box. It’s just the thought of him finding that box out of all the things you had littered around your room. It was embarrassing and horridly nerve wrecking.
Noticing your discomfort, Minghao spoke gently, “Y/n, I’m really sorry. I’ll put it back.”
Impulsively, you shook your head. Your brain was fried, your emotions were going into overdrive, but something inside told you that it was okay to let Minghao know. It was finally time for you to tell him. You loved him.
You took a deep breath, “You can open it.”
“Y/n, you don’t have to… this is your personal box…”
“Hao. It’s okay. I want you to.”
Staring into your eyes intently to make sure it was really okay, you affirmed his wordless question with a slight nod.
Minghao set the box on your desk, and gingerly opened the lid. Picking up the stack of letters gently, Minghao shuffled through them quickly, noticing how the date of each one went back further and further. He inhaled sharply. You must really love this guy… Setting his sights on one where the title was bolded and written larger than the rest, he pulled it out of its place between the rest of the pieces of paper.
He let his eyes run across the title.
I think I love him.
He unfolded the letter, scanning through it quickly.
I think I love him.  The way he laughs, it’s so melodious.  Like a harmony sung by the most prestigious choirs.
I think I love him.  His eyes, the way he looks at me.  It brings out my inner most desires.
I think I love him.  It’s the little things he does like carry my bag, buy me a drink. Even the way he helps me tie my wires.
I think I love him.  Minghao, that’s his name.  I want him so badly but alas, what I want will never transpire.
Minghao? That’s his name… He rereads the letter again, staring intensely at the line that his name is written. Him? The idiot he was talking about earlier… It was him?
Minghao’s eyes widened in shock. You loved him.
As the realisation kicked in, a tiny glint in his eye appeared. You loved him.
Letting a toothy grin spread across his face, he looked at you excitedly.
You reeled back, slightly unsure as to why Minghao was acting in such an unMinghao-like manner. Why was he smiling? He literally just found out that the person you’ve been pining after for years was him. Shouldn’t he be creeped out? Yell at you? You’ve been writing about him for years…
“I LOVE YOU TOO!” Minghao exclaimed.
You stilled. What? Did you hear him wrongly…
You chuckled nervously, “Hao? Say that again?”
Shaking his head, Minghao walked over to you in a few big strides. Shoving the letter right in your face, Minghao repeated himself, “I SAID, I LOVE YOU TOO!”
Watching Minghao’s bright eyes, his words finally began to sink in. You yelled, “WHAT? YOU’RE TELLING ME, WE COULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN DATING BY NOW?”
Minghao nodded, laughing at your reaction. That was what he loved so much about you. Your reactions were somehow always so perfect.
Using his free hand to lift your hand in front of your face, Minghao intertwined your fingers. He placed a gentle kiss on your knuckles, “Yes, we could have… but it’s not too late to start? In fact, now that we both know, how about we ditch the work we were going to do and go on our very first date?”
Scrunching your nose and looking at Minghao adoringly, you replied with a kiss on his knuckles, “Of course. And you know. Just in case you didn’t already know. I love you. A lot.”
Minghao leaned towards you, “No, no, I know. But I think you’re going to need to rewrite the description of your box.”
“And what’s that?”
Clenching your hand a little tighter, Minghao replies with a smile, “To all the love letters I wrote but never sent, don’t worry because he got them anyway.”

Tolerate It - Xu Minghao
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Watching the love of your life be with the wrong person should be classified as cruel and unusual torture. While you loved to see him smile, you hated the fact it was because of someone else.
Pairing: Xu Minghao x reader
Inspired by: Tolerate It - Taylor Swift
Genre: Angst - unconfessed feelings, arguments, jealousy, friends to lovers, ft. Wonwoo, Jun, and Mingyu
Word Count: 3.4k
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Living in a city sometimes felt constricting. For the longest time, you always dreamed of living in a major city where there was always something going on. However, coming from home work to loud shouting, blaring car horns, and constant movement all around got overwhelming. And you weren't the only one that felt that way.
You were grateful for the opportunities thrown your way. However, sometimes you just wished you take a step into peace and quiet.
It was Minghao that suggested that everyone should take a trip to the woods. He found a company where you could rent out a company, which was perfect for you and your group of 14 friends. But it seems you miscounted. This whole time, you had no idea that Minghao was planning on bringing his girlfriend as his plus one. You didn't even know you were allowed plus ones!
At the moment, you were in the kitchen washing the dishes after the meal Minghao, Joshua, and Mingyu cooked up together. Minghao, Seokmin, Hoshi, and Cheol took it upon themselves to start a bonfire. They believed it was the only appropriate way to kickoff your weekend getaway. Well, Minghao wasn't helping much. He was more so keeping his girlfriend company, having his arms wrapped around her and holding her close. It made you sick to your stomach.
"You know, if you stare long enough, they might get an idea you're watching them like a hawk," Wonwoo commented.
You didn't even noticed he slipped into the kitchen. However, you noticed he had yellow rubber gloves on and was there to keep you company. To be honest, you wanted to dot he dishes by yourself to sort through your thoughts, but you knew Wonwoo was always a good person to confide in. You smiled appreciatively before stepping aside, allowing him to have access to the pile that filled the sink.
"So, I'm taking it you didn't know she was coming?" He asked. "No, not at all. I didn't know until I got out of Cheol's car," you confessed, a hint of sadness in your voice. "Trust me, none of us knew except Minghao. This was apparently his idea of trying to get us to meet her." "By tricking and trapping us here?"
You both shared a laugh at that idea. It made you feel a bit better that you weren't the only one blindsided. Normally, Minghao was so upfront with the group about his feelings, so you were confused why he's kept her hidden for so long. You only knew of her by him mentioning that he was going on a date with a new girl that Dino set him up with. And the poor maknae already got an earful from you.
"I always thought you two would end up together," Wonwoo commented.
His gaze was locked on the dishes submerged underneath the bubbly water. Your gaze was locked on him. Your eyes were a bit wide, not sure if you heard him correctly. However, he glanced out of his peripheral to see your eyes locked on him. "So you're not denying that you like him? Or did I just make things awkward because you guys are best friends?"
You were at a loss of words. How the fuck did Wonwoo figure it out? Who told him? Or were you that painfully obvious.
There was no denying that you had feelings for Minghao. How could he when he treated the world with kindness? How could anyone not be attracted to him when he looked like he was crafted by the Gods? His visuals and his heart of gold set your heart ablaze easily. But you two were friends. Nothing more, nothing less.
He made that part obvious by being with someone else.
Wonwoo let out a chuckle. Putting the last dish in the drying rack, he grabbed the towel to dry off his hands. "Don't worry, y/n. Your secret is safe with me," he vowed. He pressed a kiss to your forehead before he walked away, leaving you motionless in the kitchen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone was gathered outside in a small circle around the fire. Seugncheol and Hoshi looked at the fire with pride at the fire they created. All the rest of the guys were chatting, either drinking beer or coffee depending on the guy. You were sandwiched between Jun and Wonwoo.
Unfortunately, you had a front-row view of Minghao and his girlfriend. Her heart twitched with ache as she sat on his lap. Every few seconds, he would take the time to ensure the blanket was wrapped around her body.
"Stare long enough and he's going to notice," Wonwoo whispered. "Or worse, she might."
If you could, you'd hit him on the shoulder. But it would cause too much attention to the others, which knowing them, they'd pry until your secret was let out. You silently thanked him though as his voice caused you to turn your head.
"Could always just blame the fatigue from traveling." "Wow, look who is using their brain," Wonwoo teased.
You rolled your eyes before leaning back fully in the lawn chair. You had your legs curled up to your chest. Sure, you were decked out in sweatpants, a hoodie with a long sleeve shirt underneath, and a beanie, but it wasn't enough to keep you warm. The fire wasn't aiding at all.
"Geez, y/n. You're practically turning blue," Jun chimed in.
Before you could protest, you were being lifted into the man's lap. You stared up at him, disbelief that he actually moved you but also that he pulled off a move like that. Where was the shy boy you met a few years ago?
He winked at you before wrapping the blanket around you. You weren't sure where it had appeared from but then put two and two together when you saw a pouting Mingyu making his way back to the group from inside.
"Hey! That's not fair," he whined out. "Oh come on, Gyu. The baby is called," Jun called out, motioning down towards you.
Mingyu didn't even notice that you had migrated from your spot to Jun's lap. He softened his pout at the sight of you bundled up like a burrito, your face barely showing thanks to the beanie and dark blanket.
"Okay, you got me there. Y/n, is too adorable to get made at," Mingyu chuckled. He swiftly made his way back to his seat, placing himself where you used to sit which was beside Wonwoo. Much better for everyone. "Sweetheart, do you want a s'more? I'm a pro!"
You nearly popped out of Jun's lap in excitement at the offer. The guys around you laughed as Jun wrapped his arms around you, tightening his grip slightly so you wouldn't go rolling off of his lap.
"I'm taking that as a yes," Jun laughed before kissing the crown of your head.
Your eyes widened slightly at Jun's actions. You peered up at him but all he did was wink. Wonwoo was sitting back in amusement, as the rest of the group didn't really seem to blink twice at Jun's antics. Jun was the type of guy who opened up more as he got comfortable around people.
Yet, you couldn't help but ponder on it. Was it a friendly kiss? You couldn't deny the blush that was coating your cheeks as Jun openly showed rare affection in front of the rest of the group. Did it mean something more?
"Hold on, y/n, how do you like your marshmallows?" Your internal investigation was interrupted by Mingyu calling out to you. You turned over to see Mingyu trying to get the marshmallow to stick to the skewer. Fearing the worst, Wonwoo was on supervising duty.
"As gooey as possible! I don't want it to drop into the fire, but get really close," you smirked, knowing it would be a challenge for him. "Whatever the princess wants, she gets," he declared.
You and Jun chuckled as Mingyu got to work.
These were the moments that you longed for since the trip was proposed. For the first time since arrival, you felt relaxed. It helped that Jun was allowing you to curl in his lap like you were a cat.
For Minghao, this was a moment he didn't expect. His eyes were locked on you and Jun, trying to figure out the puzzle between the four - Jun, Mingyu, Wonwoo, and you. Was there something going on? Did he miss something? "Babe? Baby? Helloooo, Earth to Hao?"
He jumped as his girlfriend called out to him. She had a slight pout on her lips as she gazed up at him. Minghao blinked a couple to reorient himself before he finally looked down at the woman in his lap. Woah, I've never just zoned out like that before.
"I was telling you all about what Sasha told me the other day. Weren't you paying attention to me?"
Part of him longed to be apart of the group. I mean, that's how envisioned this trip going. He thought everyone could come together as one group, not break into two smaller groups. Sure, that happened sometimes with a group as large as this but he didn't think that would happen when they were all meant to be hanging out together now. But he didn't want to be a rude person, so he quickly shook his head.
"Sorry, sweetheart. I think the fatigue of driving today is starting to catch up to me."
She raised an eyebrow and just stared at him for a moment. It was like she was trying to decipher if he was lying or not. However, she just shrugged before talking more about her inner circle.
Has she even talked to my friends once since arriving? Did she even make an effort to do so?
It made Minghao curious, especially when you, his best friend, were able to easily blend into his friend group. He even thought you were better friends with some of the other guys than he was. But that was just a testament to what a great person you are.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One by one, the group began to dwindle and head inside for sleep. You were still outside with Jun, Mingyu, and Wonwoo whereas Minghao and his girlfriend were inside in the kitchen. He was probably making his nightly tea to help ease him to sleep.
"You're welcome, you know," Wonwoo announced.
Picking your head up off Jun's lap, you raised an eyebrow. You were getting sleepy yourself, so you were contemplating going inside or staying a bit longer. However, Wonwoo's statement woke you up and caught your attention.
Chuckling at your confused state, he sat up a bit straighter. Jun and Mingyu shared a knowing look which just further drew in your curiosity.
"Oh you know, for making Hao jealous?" Wonwoo explained. Your eyes widened as you glanced between the three guys before landing on Wonwoo. Your eyes narrowed on him, about to pounce but was eased down by Jun's hold. Note to self: never discredit Jun's strength again.
"You promised not to tell," you hissed. "Angel, it's not hard to put the pieces together," Mingyu added. "Yeah, I mean, we kind of knew you might have a thing for him but seeing you be a bit quieter around the two of them just confirmed."
You dramatically threw your head back. That's it. Your life is over.
"I think I speak for the rest of the guys when we thought you two would end up together."
Your head instantly sprung back. You groaned slightly from the head rush you caused yourself. Jun snickered before allowing his fingers to trace against your arm, comforting you.
"Don't just be mean and say shit like that, Jun." At least Wonwoo didn't deliberately spill your secret, I guess.
You just didn't know you were that obvious to the others.
"Y/n, I mean it. You guys have a special bond. Not only is it apparent that you care about him on a deep level, but he does for you too. I guess we all just thought you were close friends, but we all saw how your personality shifted when she started coming around." "But he's not into me, guys. If he was, he would have said something by now." "Do you think maybe he was waiting for you to say something first?"
You frowned slightly at that idea. I mean, as much as you were waiting for Minghao to confess, you could have confessed as well.
SMACK
You looked over to see Jun and Wonwoo glaring at Mingyu between them. Mingyu was rubbing his arm, looking at you apologetically. The sight alone caused you to smile and relax a bit.
Deciding it was time to go inky ou tapped on Jun's arms. Getting the hint, he loosened his arms from around you so you could stand up. You stretched for a second.
"I guess we'll never know, boys. But what I do know is that I am exhausted and ready to shower to get the smoke smell off of me."
A chorus of goodnights echoed behind you as you said goodnight yourself and head towards the cabin. As much as you loved a good campfire, you didn't want to bring the smell in with you to bed.
Silently, you moved the sliding patio door to the right so you could slip in.
"I don't get why you are so distracted. Back in the city, you always have your attention on me." "I'm sorry you feel that way, but I also was hoping you would take this trip to get to know my friends? I don't want you to feel like you have to just talk to me." "So what? I'm not as important to you as your friends?"
Yikes. That wasn't what you were expecting to talk into you. You figured the house would be silent and you'd be the one making the most noise as you tried to navigate back to your room.
It got quiet as you quickly closed the patio door, not wanting to allow any chilly air or critters into the cabin. You turned around to be greeted by two pairs of eyes staring at you. One was trying to stare into your soul, almost as if she wanted to burn a hole right through you. The other was softer, almost apologetically and shameful.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. I'll see you both in the morning."
As quickly as possible, you scurried out of the kitchen as you desperately wanted to escape the tension inside.
"And you're still paying attention to other people more than you are wanting to pay attention to me!"
While you had your suspicions about what might be driving a wedge between the lovers, you didn't want to stick around and speculate. Now that you had a small group of supporters cheering for you and Minghao to find your way to each other, you were positive they'd fill in the dots if they also overheard anything.
Your priority right now was to get in the shower and curl back underneath the covers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SLAM
You jolted in your bed, your sleep interrupted but he sound of the slamming door. You were sure it had woken up the rest of the house too. Luckily for you and your nosey self, your bedroom window overlooked the front of the house. Quietly, you moved over towards the window.
To your surprise, Minghao's girlfriend was the one responsible for the noise. She had her pink duffle bag thrown over her shoulders. With no Minghao chasing after her. You watched as she climbed into the car already waiting for her, the smoke from the exhaust pipe lifting into the air.
Her voice was muffled but loud yet you couldn't make out the words that she was exchanging with the driver.
Where was Minghao? Was he okay?
You quickly got out of bed, but tried to be light on your feet. In a house of 13 men who were just as nosey as you, you had to be very quiet to not ring any silent alarms. You weren't really in the mood for a line of interrogation seeing that it was in the middle of the night.
Just as you were about to slip out of your room, you heard movement coming from the other side of the door. You halted your movement.
Knock knock knock
You were holding the breath you didn't even know you were holding. From underneath the door, you saw the shadow of two feet. Not much to indicate who was at your door.
"Y/n, I know you're up," Minghao said, his voice soft. He didn't sound angry or heartbreak, especially for a guy who's girlfriend (even if you could still call her that) stormed out of the vacation cabin.
It didn't take much longer for you to grasp the golden doorknob and twist it open.
Before you, you were greeted by the sight of Minghao. He was leaning against the doorway, wearing grey sweatpants and a matching grey hoodie. You were convinced Minghao was created by the universe as an apology for the patriarchy.
"You couldn't have made things easier for me?"
You stepped back, allowing Minghao into your room. He nodded before walking in, heading towards your bed. He sat on the edge but leaned back on his elbows. He was almost too calm for your liking.
Knowing that the other boys may have been alerted by Minghao's presence, you quickly closed the door behind you from prying eyes. You looked at him curiously, your heart pounding. Make what easier for him?
"I may be your best friend, but I am not qualified to be your couples' therapist," you said. "Come on, y/n. I know you're into me. Or are you really going to tell me you are into my best friend without telling me?"
Caught redhanded. Dammit.
You opened your mouth to try to defend yourself but nothing was coming out. Your lack of a response confirmed his suspicions, and actually made him believe Jeonghan who had overheard your conversation with Wonwoo earlier in the kitchen.
"Come here, darlin,'" he called out to you.
Without thinking about it, you made your way over towards the man presented on your bed. With each step towards him, your heart pounded faster. It didn't help that he had his eyes trained on you the entire time.
"I thought best friends weren't supposed to lie to each other," he frowned. "I wouldn't say it was necessarily a lie, Hao."
He scoffed as a playful smile was adorn on his lips. Once you were close enough to him, he pulled you in close. You were standing in between his legs as he peered up at you. His hands slowly began moving up and down your arms.
"But you weren't quite exactly truthful with me. How long did you think you could go without confessing to me?" "As long as possible if it meant keeping our friendship." With one hand on your wrist, the other hand moved up to tuck the loose strands of your hair behind your ear. "Good thing I don't want to be your friend anymore."
You swore you could hear your heart shatter into a million pieces at the statement. What did his girlfriend, or whoever she was now, say to him? "Because I don't think friends can do this."
Pulling gently on your wrist, Minghao seemingly eliminated any space between the two of you. He pulled you close enough so your knee hit your bed before leaning up to kiss you. You couldn't even resist. This was what you always wanted, to be his.
You kissed him back, gently moving so his back hit the bed and you were on top of him. Minghao smiled into the kiss, clearly happy about the reciprocation. His hand left your wrist to hold your way, the other cradling your face. You didn't even have time to move your hands onto him before he moved you over so he laid beside you.
The only sound in the room was the sound of your lips smacking against his. He was just as good of a kisser as you imagined.
Slowly, you pulled back. He offered a gentle smile as you did the same, but he could see there was something on your mind.
"You don't need to worry. I ended things with here. She pointed out that I was eyeing you all night, in the way maybe a best friend shouldn't," he confessed.
Your hands gently moved to cup his face. Hearing that news, you couldn't help but let your smile grow wider.
"Now who was the one who could've made things easier?" You teased.

seungcheol brushes his nose against yours before he kisses you. he doesn’t know why he does it but he likes the way it makes you get oh, so shy. your eyes snap shut in embarrassment and he watches as your lips form a small pout,  and if anything that just makes him wanna kiss you even more.
jeonghan is a menace, and he likes to show you that but in a few precious moments, every so often, jeonghan gets soft. the yoon jeonghan gets soft . laid in bed at night he mumbles his love into the darkness, and presses a few sweet to your forehead praying you don’t wake up. you’ll let him have his way of course even the times you are awake, god forbid you make him flustered, though you’d like to see him blush more often.
joshua likes to press feather light kisses on your knuckles every time he has your hand in his. it makes him feel like the quite romantic as he watches the way you hide your face and groan at him to stop. your ring finger looks so empty, he teases maybe he’ll have to fill the gap, he says, and though you applaud how smooth he is , he’s gonna have a hard time when you come at him later with cheesy liners yourself.
jun is a cuddler, he admits it. whenever he sees you laying in bed after getting home late, he just wants to cuddle you so tight and never let go. you’re so warm and huggable he can’t even help himself. he wouldn’t even stop himself from doing so but the fact you look so peaceful asleep holds him back a little, maybe when you’re awake he’ll hug you half to death instead.
hoshi links pinkies with you. it started as a way to be more discrete in public about your relationship while still enjoying a casual little intimacy but even now that every one knew about the two of you, he still likes to entangle his pinkie with yours letting his thumb rub small little hearts on your palm.  it’s so so comforting to him.
wonwoo likes to hold your hand though he’ll never admit it, his stomach does a little leap every time you intertwine your fingers with his. there’s something so damn precious about you , he want’s to keep your hand in his forever, but he’ll lie for now and say it’s just to keep your hand warm and not because he loves holding it so much.
woozi shows his love by giving you a little cheek kiss before tumbling out of bed every morning. it makes you smile every time, and you found yourself thinking about the ways his kisses changed every morning. one day it may be longer than 3 seconds, or maybe he’ll give you a quick on before he rushes to get ready because he slept in, perhaps he might even roll you over and kiss you right on the lips instead.
mingyu likes to kiss you at every chance he gets, as you’re waiting in line at 6am to get coffee he presses his lips to your forehead. it’s brief as if his lips were barely there...  nothing but innocent, it felt so sweet ( just like the way his lips taste from his drink when he kisses you properly ) and yet you still find your face getting warm under your mask.
dokyeom warms up the shower for you in the morning, is there any more to say? ( he’s so perfect with his physical affection that i had to say something else) . he wouldn’t mind showering in lukewarm water if it meant you can have the hot water afterwards, on days you shower together he’ll even wash your hair for you  if , in turn , you wash his as well. he may have to crouch down a little for you though.
minghao’s been taking notes of how you like to dress ever since he got to know you, and hell he’s accurate. whenever he’s out shopping, he seems knows exactly what would suit you and what you’d like.. it’s so sweet how he hands the item over to you with a soft smile. he’d never force you to wear anything but when you do wear outfits picked by him, you can see a noticeable blush on his face as you show it off to him.
seungkwan make you a meal from scratch at least once a week. even between his busy schedule he tries his best to show you his love through some warming food. bonus points if it ends up turning into a date night, spent lazing , entangled in each others arms on the sofa , with a film and wine.
vernon makes you a playlist for any occasion you can think of. he knows that you miss him when he’s away on tour and just for that he collects songs he’d think you’d enjoy or songs that remind him too much of you for you to listen to when he’s not there. music is a massive part in his life and he thinks it’s the perfect way to show someone how much you love them, he thinks it’s rather beautiful how even a simple melody can somehow remind him of you.
chan took you to a bracelet making stall on your 1st date. he thought it would be a cute unconventional first date idea and it certainly was a success, you came back for a 2nd date and then a third and somehow you’ve ended up moving in with him after 2 years of dating. the whole experience stuck with you and now every year he takes you back to the same little shop just so he can make you a new one, for the new year of love you guys can share.
Tumblr media
a/n : my first ot13 post! i really hope you guys like it! i’m gonna be posting lots of svt content in the near future <3 thank you for all the support! this made me  so so soft.

ANOTHER CLICHÉ LOVE STORY
Tumblr media
synopsis: the three times Minghao tried to buy you coffee, not cuz he thought you were cute or anything. At least that is what he told himself or; the one time you beat him to it pairing: xu minghao x gn!reader genre: fluff warnings: none w.c: 606 a/n: I'm sorry I like cliches a bit too much, requested by @haecien ♡
Tumblr media
Minghao didn't even like coffee that much. He had always preferred tea over coffee. Yet here he was in line for the third time this week. It had become a routine, almost a ritual for him now. His eyes look across the room searching for something or someone. A sigh escapes his mouth when he sees you, tucked away in your favorite corner of the shop, nose buried in a book, occasionally stealing glances at the world outside the café's window.
He imagined what your voice must sound like, soft and melodious, with a hint of warmth that matched the gentle smile he often caught glimpses of. Or how your eyes would crinkle up when you laughed if they would light up with a spark of mischief or shine with genuine joy. "If you stared any longer, you'd burn a hole in them," Seungkwan teased, nudging him with a playful smirk.
"What no! I'm not staring at them. I'm looking at how beautiful the sky is" Minghao said trying to defend himself. "Yeah, the sky that's completely hidden by the thick fog," Dino said almost rolling his eyes at his friend. "If you're into them, you should try talking to them or something?" he suggested.
Minghao shook his head, thinking how could he like you when he had never even talked to you. Yes, you were the only person on his mind for days but that doesn't mean he likes you. Seungkwan leaned in, "You'll never know if you don't make a move. Just talk to them, man. Maybe buy them a coffee and see where it goes," he encouraged.
Minghao hesitantly approached the counter. He was so nervous that he stumbled over his words. "I'll pay for their coffee," he blurted out, only to be met with a confused look from the barista who informed him that you had already paid for yours.
Tumblr media
The second time he tried to buy you coffee, he confidently approached the counter (with shaking legs). The barista grinned at him, "Your friend's coffee's on the house today. They're a regular."
Third time's the charm, right? Minghao certainly hoped so as he stood in line at the coffee shop once again. But just as he reached the front of the line, his phone buzzed insistently in his pocket. Minghao frowned, recognizing the number as his manager's. With a sinking feeling in his stomach, he answered the call, only to be met with urgent instructions to rush back immediately.
Tumblr media
Minghao entered the café, scanning the familiar surroundings in search of you, his heart sinking as he failed to spot you anywhere. Disappointed, he turned to leave, resigned to try again another day. But just as he reached for the door handle, he froze in his tracks, his eyes widening in surprise as he saw you walking towards him. You held two cups of coffee in your hands, a warm smile gracing your lips as you approached him. "Hey...," you greeted him, offering one of the cups of coffee. "I am Y/N. I got you this. I hope you don't mind. I… uh, I thought you were cute and I was wondering if you'd like to go on a date with me?" Minghao's heart skipped a beat, his mind struggling to process the sudden turn of events. He stared at you in disbelief, a flush spreading across his cheeks as he tried to find the words to respond. "Y-yeah, I'd love to," he stammered, a shy smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "I mean, yeah, that would be great."
Maybe that's how this was supposed to happen, one cup of coffee at a time.

Tumblr media
THE PARK BENCH IS ICE AGAINST MINGHAO’S BLUE JEANS.
His hands are tightly clasped around a medium-sized bouquet, a pink bow ribbon tying everything together. Minghao doesn’t know the first thing about flowers, just knows that carnations are your favourites. Even though there’s a slight chill in the air, Minghao is dressed nicely; short-sleeved polo rolled up to show his arms. He thought he might as well make a decent effort: after all, he’s seeing you for the first time in a year.
Soulmates used to be a concept foreign to Minghao, so foreign when his friend Jun often blabbed on about finding his ‘one true love’ - he could only scoff. Then he thought about what love meant to him. Watching all his friends fall in and out of it faster than he could blink, love didn’t mean much. Yes, he had been ‘in love’ but it had never consumed him, never broken him apart to the point he questioned his purpose of living.
Until you whispered those three words into his ear (it was early morning and you were tangled in his sheets, the linen covering your bare upper body, your eyes were barely opened but your smile was so bright, your fingertips and kisses painted his neck like a canvas. He had never seen such an angelic sight) and it all finally clicked. If this was what love felt like, then he had loved you since he first saw you.
Being in love meant loving you. To him, now love can only mean you.
Honestly, Minghao wasn’t expecting a response from you. It was three am when he sent the voicemail and after so long with no contact, you had probably moved on and found someone else. Living your life without thinking about him, is a privilege Minghao could only wish for. You were in his dreams, in his walls, staring at him in his bathroom mirror.
Although he did miss you terribly, a part of him sent a message because he wanted closure. He wanted to know you didn’t want him anymore. Maybe with your deafening silence, he could move on - live a life with you (an empty promise to himself, like a single coin in a fountain). But you didn’t.
A week after that night, Minghao received a text from your number.
It was early afternoon and Minghao was only half occupied with the tasks of the day, his head everywhere but the present. After sending that voicemail, he couldn’t seem to focus. A string of ‘what ifs’ kept constantly replaying in his head like a strip of film. At a point, he even contemplated throwing away your slippers. But as he saw them by the heater neatly lined next up to his - something deep from within him forced his whole body to stop. He couldn’t, he just couldn’t. Throwing away your slippers would mean giving up on you. Quitting had not got Minghao very far in life.
A notification popped up when he was scrolling mindlessly that day - he was about to swipe up. But when he saw your contact name (it’s ‘sweetheart’, he hasn’t changed it since the day he told you he loved you, the contact name even outliving your relationship), his phone almost dropped out of his hand and onto his face.
Sweetheart: How much did you drink?
Minghao’s breath hitched in his throat. The last thing he wanted was for you to feel like you were a drunken mistake. That he wouldn’t have said what he said without the removed inhibitions from several bottles of wine. He meant every single word he said
Minghao: I’ve never been more sober in my life.
His fingers paused at his keyboard, wanting to say so much more. He wanted to tell you once again how he couldn’t live without you, how you were even more important to him than the oxygen that fills his lungs. But he settled with simple formalities instead.
Minghao: How are you?
Sweetheart: Stop pretending that you care.
Minghao could feel his entire heart shatter in his chest, had you not listened to the voicemail or even worse did you not believe him? Did you not believe his love for you? Again, you were slipping away from him right in front of his eyes, he couldn’t let you go.
Minghao: Everything I said in that voicemail was true. I care about you more than I care for myself.
Sweetheart: Meet me in the park at 2pm and prove it then.
That’s how Minghao finds himself in his local park. Coincidentally, where you both had your first date (now several years ago, he placed a pink carnation behind your ear and when he looked into your eyes, he knew you were going to be different from the others). His heart is threatening to fall out of his chest with the way it’s beating so fast. What is he supposed to say to you? What apology on earth can he give you to make up for his past actions?
The past is in the past but Minghao needs you in his future.
As if you were the grand prize in this game we call life, Minghao is a debtor using up his final pennies. He can’t afford to lose you. The universe doesn’t grant second chances easily and Minghao wasn’t a fool to let you go again.
Your relationship was the furthest thing from perfect, but your flaws matched each other in a way Minghao could never fully grasp. End pieces in a jigsaw, rose quartz and serenity in an evening sky, the rays of the sun and the glow of the moon. You were far from perfect but you were more than close enough for Minghao. He was obsessed with you and still is.
He hears the light patter of feet against the cobbled pavement. The sound gets louder and louder until it stops. Minghao looks up from his fiddling fingers, expecting it to be some dog walker whose pet doesn’t understand the concept of personal space. But then he feels a familiar tap on his shoulder, there’s only one person in this world whose touch is as light as a feather.
When he sees you, his whole world ceases to exist. It is only you that remains. For a year he wanted, craved for this moment. You were his messiah, all he wanted to do was worship you until his throat was hoarse and lips parched. He was thirsty, oh so thirsty. Only you could save him, only you could fix him. He quickly stands up to look at you. He thinks if you touch him his legs would give in and he would fall to the floor. Your presence is overwhelming, you’re taking over his sensing and clouding his thoughts.
All of his words are caught in the base of his throat, there is so much he wants to tell you - but as he tries to speak only silence escapes from his parted pink lips.
You look slightly different, something Minghao couldn’t quite put his finger on. In front of him, you are a paradigm of blues, yellows and reds: the centrepiece in an art gallery, Micheal Angelo’s greatest creation.
“These are for me?” You ask cautiously, breaking the seemingly infinite silence.
You were so surprised to hear from him after you had assumed he had fallen out of love with you months ago. You want to make sure, that you haven’t gone mad, that the love of your life is really standing in front of you.
“Of course they are,” He hands you the flowers and watches your face light up when you realise that he remembered.
“You remembered…” You say smiling, looking down and twirling the pink stain ribbon between your fingers. ‘Of course’ Minghao thinks - of course, he’d never forget. He wants to reply but he’s too captivated with your beauty to think straight.
Still lost in thought, you continue, “Where did all the time go… Back then we were so young, so naive, so… So…” You struggle to find the right words to say.
“So stupid.” Minghao’s words are breathless as you meet his ever-so-loving gaze. For the whole of your relationship, Minghao had never been the one to open up to faults - you as well. The feeling of being so naked and vulnerable is foreign to him. But he relishes in the freedom of the truth, his pride no longer holding him down in chains.
He thinks he loves you more than anyone in human history has loved before.
“I meant everything, I said in that voicemail. You were right ‘We shouldn’t have ended like this’, yet I let it happen. I made you doubt my love but to protect my pride, I just stood there, saying nothing. I thought you grew fed up with our relationship, that I wasn't what you wanted. But then I realised you were pushing me away to protect yourself, just like I did.” Minghao pauses getting slightly emotional.
“Nothing I say or do will ever be enough, I can’t turn back time I know that.
But I never stopped loving you.”
And before he can comprehend, you’re in his arms, head against his chest - your home (his heart). You drop the flowers in your right hand and Minghao circles himself around you, engulfing you in his embrace. You don’t say anything, yet a thousand words fall from your parted lips as you stare into his pools of brown (the same pools you could spread hours, days drowning in, as if fresh air didn’t exist). You smell exactly like he remembered, a mix of woods and flora. You feel like a cup of warm tea after a tiresome day, the silver lining he always looks towards. Minghao thinks there’s nothing in the world as beautiful as you.
“I should’ve never let you go…” The words tumbling out of his lips are a waterfall of emotion. Waves of relief rush over him as he feels himself around you. This is where he is supposed to be. Suddenly, everything in his life is going to be okay.
“I should have never tried to push you away in the first place ” Your hands reach up to stroke the back of his hair and he melts into your touch like butter.
This is where he belongs.
Minghao places a small kiss on the mole you have on your collarbone and it’s almost like the past year didn’t happen (you’re on a date in the city, you’re wearing his favourite dress which shows your shoulders and no matter how hard he tries, Minghao can’t keep his hands off you, pecking and nibbling at the soft skin, even if he didn’t say it much, he was enamoured with you). Minghao doesn’t notice the lingering eyes of passers-by, he even fails to realise the passage of time.
Sadly the world can’t stop for him, no matter how much it feels like it does.
With a loud honk from a car speeding down the other side of the road resonating through his eardrums, Minghao is brought back to reality. Suddenly the light weight in the back of his jeans pocket feels all too heavy and he starts to panic, pushing you away gently. You pout, feeling like you have the wrong idea and Minghao’s expression is immediately sympathetic.
“No baby, don’t worry you did nothing wrong.” He coos in a tone that had almost become foreign to him.
Never, has he used this tone with any of his hookups, even when they begged to be called sweet names, he couldn’t (looking back on this Minghao feels guilty, but those people weren’t you, they couldn’t ever be you). He’s surprised at how easily those words drift off his tongue after so long. He guesses everything just comes easier with you.
“Remember how I said, we’ll listen to your favourite jazz album while drunk on wine.” He scratches his neck bashfully as you look up to him with wide eyes.
“I may or may not have booked us two tickets to their live show in the area, I just wanted to do something again to show that I care. I know it wouldn’t make up for-"
You silence him with a kiss, and Minghao forgets where he is, what he had just said, the colour of the sky and the feeling of the ground below his feet. hell if you didn't whisper ‘It’s okay Minghao' against his lips, he would have forgotten his own name.
For Minghao, it’s you. It has always been you and it will continue to be you. Maybe until the day he dies, he thinks. But knowing himself, he would probably find a way to love you in the afterlife as well.
Tumblr media
You drag Minghao by his arm into his dimly lit flat, lips still perfectly intertwined together like a lock and key. If your kisses are knife wounds, Minghao wouldn’t mind bleeding to death. He can taste the tart fermented grapes on your tongue. The feeling of his bare skin against yours is more intoxicating than the bottle of wine you shared. You mewl pitifully into his mouth, clutching his clothes like a beggar desperate for cash. The sight of you begging for him was probably on par with the sex itself.
The night wasn’t supposed to end like this. Minghao had planned it out perfectly: you were supposed to visit a jazz show featuring your favourite ensemble, then you’d have dinner at a place he’d been meaning to take you for months, then maybe after a glass of red (or two) a taxi would drop you off at your complex where he would kiss you on the check and tell you to sleep well.
You both barely made it to step two.
Minghao pulls you flush against his chest breaking the kiss for air - you don’t seem to care as you turn your attention to his neck. In the morning, Minghao expects to see dots of red-purple bruises lined across the pale skin of his neck like patches of watercolour. The night wasn’t supposed to end like this, but Minghao doesn’t have the strength in him to tell you to stop.
“I wanted to be a gentleman.” He manages to whisper out, his eyes squeezing shut as you move your hands and kisses downwards, “I don’t want you just for your body, you know.”
“I know. I just missed you so much it was driving me crazy.” You say and drag him by the collar. You’re not looking where you’re going, but Minghao trusts you know his place better than you know your own.
Before he can respond, he feels you jerk slightly, almost tripping over your feet. He looks down to watch what caused it and he feels his face light up like a pink neon sign downtown.
“You still have my slippers here.” You say, not like you’re inquiring, but more like a statement. The smile on your face is miles wide when you look up at him. Minghao knows exactly what you’re thinking and because of it, he’s the happiest man who has ever lived.
“I didn’t have the heart to get rid of them, I never wanted to let you go in the first place."

summary. just bf hao adoring his gf:(
word count. 720
Tumblr media
before you minghao had this tendency to sit in silence, alone in his room and do his hobbies. completely shut off from the world, silence or soft jazz music filling his apartment; just him and his reading, painting, tea brewing or mediating. he enjoyed enjoying his hobbies alone.
minghao loves, adores art. it’s no secret. he always has and probably will, even when he’s wrinkly and old. and he considers himself a lucky for that, and for you. because you are art itself.
which is why, with time he realized that he could combine two things he loves together.
as cocky as he can get, minghao felt a little shy and preferred to only sketch you at first. he bought a special sketchbook, grainy and yellowish sheets ready to be filled with various doodles of (mostly) you.
while you slept, did your assignments, cooked or watered plants. minghao could just stare and you in all those mundane moments, finding endless inspiration. but nothing more than that: your figure was engraved in the depth of his sketchbook, for now.
sometimes he’d hide behind closed doors, sinking in his own world. when your relationship was still fairly fresh, you were nervous to disturb him. but with time it changed, as he progressively left his door open and hinted on having you with him.
just like today.
rain drumming a steady rhythm on the window, pleasantly blending with the sounds of jazz in the room. warm light shone on minghao’s painfully white canvas.
he was tapping his finger against the brush, hands resting on his thighs. the smell of vanilla candles and fresh laundry filled his senses as he spaced out, observing the raindrops rolling down the glass.
there was will to paint but no inspiration.
letting out a deep sigh, as if that was going to change something, he closed his eyes.
then, he heard soft paddled sound of your footsteps. a smile subconsciously bloomed on his face and then the sound became clearer.
he peeked an eye open and saw your figure standing in the doorframe. you grinned upon the cute sight and then stepped closer to put the small tray on a wooden stool next to him, careful not to spill his paint water.
the delicious smell of jasmine tea hit his nostrils and then he observed you grab one of the cut up fruits.
“how’s it going?” you asked tenderly and tapped his chin. minghao opened his mouth and let you feed him, the sweet taste of his favorite snack melting on his tongue.
“quite fruitless” he snickered and you snorted at the pun. then you glanced at the blank canvas.
his gaze lingered on you and minghao put his hands on your waist, pulling you closer ever so gently. “i could paint your beauty… that’s if… you know, let me”
as your lips fell agape and blush creeped on your cheeks, you were too speechless to respond.
he smiled softly and rubbed his thumbs on your skin.
“yeah, okay. if you want!” you grinned, noticing how his face lit up “do you want me to pose or something?”
“no, you can just… be, you know? keep me company” minghao hummed and you leaned closer, placing a kiss on his forehead.
“understood. let me just grab my book then, mr painter” you announced and left, trying to tone down your excitement.
sitting on top of the world
just cue
missing a puzzle i swear it’s you
while your boyfriend painted you, basking in the gentle yellow light as you read, the rain started to ease out. time passed by slowly but in a pleasant manner, you two occasionally exchanging glances.
you were curious about the paining, especially when you noticed he mostly used two colors.
the lecture in your hands began to get boring which caused your eyes to slowly drop. minghao noticed this and his heart squeezed upon the cute sight.
by the time he was done, you dozed off in the armchair.
he stood up and stretched, admiring his artwork.
then, he walked up to his muse and wrapped a warm blanket around your resting figure.
you know i can paint the world
sitting there in black and gold
you’re the perfect chemical
i gotta test i gotta know

minghao knows you keep peeping at him. he doesn't even have to open his eyes to know you're doing it. so he opens his eyes, looking over to meet your gaze... and immediately finds himself smiling when you realize you've been caught. you look away, shutting your eyes again. he already knows what part of the problem is.
"here..."
he stands up, making his way over to you. his fingers trail along your spine as he helps you sit up straighter than before, before he rests his hands on your shoulders for a moment. "breathe in deep." he says, and you peek up at him before resuming your corrected posture.
slowly, the two of you take a deep breath together, and then slowly exhale out. a gentle push at the back of your shoulder blades, and the two of you breathe in again.
"do you feel it in your chest?" he asks softly.when you nod, he smiles, pinching your cheek gently. it makes you smile in return, and he ducks down to quickly kiss the top of your head. "good. you're the one who asked to join me, so i'm not letting you leave."
"i don't wanna leave," you say. "i wanna meditate with you." your shoulders slump a little. "i'm sorry i'm bad at it, hao--"
"you'll get better," he says as he's sitting back down. minghao's good at having confidence in you, his voice always gentle when he does. "just five minutes this time. alright?"
"is five minutes enough for you?"
"yes." he knows any other answer would worry you. he can deal with five minutes today. usually he does this before you ever get up in the mornings or while you're getting ready, just to avoid making you wait... but he admittedly loves the idea of you spending this time with him, even if you aren't talking. "don't worry about me."
"alright... if you insist." you shut your eyes. "but i'm taking you out after this."
"for breakfast?" he looks over, and decides to tease you a little, "or death?"
you're smiling a little. "you'll find out."

🐸 painting date with minghao
minghao x gn! reader | fluff | 200 words | no warnings
Tumblr media
Ding, went the timer on your phone. Looking up from the canvas you had been painting on, you nodded in satisfaction at your work.
“Someone looks happy.” Minghao noted.
“Yea, I think I did really well during these 10 minutes. Shall we swap our canvas Hao?” You asked.
As much as you hated TikTok, you had to admit that it did have some really creative date ideas. You had come across some videos where siblings painted on a canvas for 10 minutes and then swapped with each other. The process was repeated for about 1 hour in total. When you saw that, you immediately knew that it was a perfect date activity. Minghao is one of the most artistic people you know, and he absolutely loved art. You were no different. In a way, you were both each other’s muses.
Handing Minghao your canvas, you took his and set it down on the table. Within 10 minutes, Minghao had added onto your rough painting of a waterfall with a beautiful outline of the two of you at the corner. Now you felt kind of bad, you had decided to be cheeky and add on a cartoon painting of a frog onto Minghao’s beautifully painted garden landscape.
You gave Minghao a sheepish look as he stared at the cartoon frog. All he could do was let out an exasperated laugh.
“Precious? Really? A cartoon frog? At least this painting will look pretty abstract with the juxtaposition of the cartoon elements with the realistic background.”
Joining in on his laughter, you said, “see, you get it Hao!”
When you both quietened down, you set the clock again for 10 minutes and got to work on your paintings. By the end of the afternoon, you had 2 freshly painted artworks to display in your house - a gorgeous landscape piece depicting both of you at a waterfall, and a goofy cartoon collection of animals in a realistic looking garden.
