#the writers blamed their shortcomings and racism on toni's relationship and have proceeded to do nothing different

the absolute disrespect being shown to toni topaz’s character this season is both egregious and frustrating, as well as completely unsurprising. obviously her mistreatment is nothing new for theses writers and i knew as soon as it was confirmed that vanessa’s pregnancy was being written in that this would happen, but it still pisses me off. toni started the season out strong and we even finally got that ‘toni centric episode’ that has been promised many times before but failed to deliver, but ever since then, it’s been entirely downhill.
she’s been all but completely isolated from the main plot - that at this point, involves ever other character on the show - and stuck in a frustrating (and oftentimes offensive) custody battle storyline, that did no favors to any of the three characters involved, was inconsistently written, ignored her perspective and feelings and has ultimately proved to be pointless. you could have erased that entire plot and nothing would have changed, except i wouldn’t know these writers have no respect for adoptive/non bio parents and that the wedding wouldn’t have happened, because despite them completely ignoring it in that episode, the only reason she proposed was to strengthen the custody case.
and that fact is made even more baffling and annoying when you remember the main plot of this season - the main villain - is a pickens ancestor (if not general pickens himself), the family that slaughtered her ancestors. toni should have been front and center leading the charge against him, but instead, she hasn’t had a scene with him since 6x09. they even acknowledged that history in an earlier episode of the season, and then it was just ignored.
this was the perfect set up to finally have toni center stage, to finally give us her back story, to finally meet more of her family members, but instead, she’s been completely shut out of it, has no superpowers, is the only woman on the show not a witch (unless it’s revealed she’s one by blood because of thomasina), and is basically nothing more than a mom now, to the point that her baby has more relevance to the main plot than she does.
