Chapter (Japanese)
(Please hit the green thumbs up at the end of the chapter on the Japanese site to show the mangaka support)
Rough translation by me
P1
Rie: I...don't know if that will happen
Rie: But, it might improve things a bit...using a wrong sized lid is better than not having a cover at all.
(sfx: tick tock tick tock)
Rie: However, it's not a solution to the fundamental issue...
Rie: And, it's not like there couldn't be other...
P2
Hikaru: I'm totally fine
Hikaru: I'm a monster after all, so something like this is... ...
Hikaru: ....*sniff*... ...
Hikaru: ...I hate this...*sniff*...why...
Hikaru: Uu...I don't wanna be alone
Hikaru: ...*sniff* ...why...
Hikaru: Uu...Uuu...Yoshiki...
Hikaru: Uu...
P3
(sfx: rain)
(sfx: page flip...)
Yoshiki: Anything's fine, I just need something that could be a hint...This one doesn't seem like it'll be useful
(book: Regional Folktales)
Yoshiki: So if I summarize where we've ended up...
(sfx: pencil click)
P4
(txt:
"Unuki-san" worship begins
Becomes "Nounuki-sama"='Hikaru' worship
* Local religion originating from difficulty living
* God that grants wishes if heads are offered
* The offered head disappears, a replacement is made and memorialized in the "Hall"
* In order to separate and bury the sacrifice's body parts as far apart as possible, the village was split
"Mass Death" Incident (1749)
* Brought about by the Indou family's ancestor
* Excessive wish→Wife's resurrection
* Afterwards the village became peaceful
* From then on, there is a custom where the Indou men use "Hichi-san" in a ritual on the mountain
)
Yoshiki: The sin of the Indou family was...that he sacrificed the villagers outside of the family to resurrect his wife
Yoshiki: As a result, the mass deaths occured.
Yoshiki: The truth of the mass deaths wasn't death by famine but bizarre deaths...
Yoshiki: With that, the villagers must have thought that Nounuki-sama had become a tatarigami
(Hikaru: Is being dead and being alive that different?)
P5
Yoshiki: ...
Yoshiki: The reason the village stablized afterwards is probably because the amount of impurities decreased, right?...
Yoshiki: But, it's strange
Yoshiki: While Nounuki-sama = 'Hikaru' is on the mountain, the impurities should gather on the mountain and the village should be fine. What was happening before the mass deaths?
Yoshiki: And another question is the part where
Yoshiki: up until the mass deaths, "even if you offered a head, nothing actually happened"
Yoshiki: Why was it only at the time of the mass deaths that a wish got granted?
P6
(sfx: office chair squeaks)
Yoshiki: *sighs*
Yoshiki: In the first place, we don't know why there's so many impurities in this area...
Yoshiki: If we don't know that, then in the end...
Hikaru: Yoshiki
Hikaru: I'll go back to the mountain haha
Yoshiki: Anything but that. No way.
(sfx: fwh-fwhump)
P7
(book: Rafanelli Art Collection)
Yoshiki: An artbook ...
(sfx: flip...)
Emanuele Rafanelli
Renaissance painter
Died 1520
Yoshiki: Beautiful art...
(title: Girl With Veil)
Yoshiki: And here's the pages with rough sketches?
(sfx: flip...)
Yoshiki: ...hm?
P8
Yoshiki: This is...
P9
Hikaru: ...*sniff*...
Hikaru: ........
Rie: 'Hikaru'-kun...
Rie: (I'm sure it hasn't even been a year since he came into this world)
Rie: (For a child like that, this is just too cruel...Just for a little while, maybe we could let things be...)
"That softness will invite greater misfortune..."
Rie: (I can't make him disappear, but...)
P10
Rie: (With 'Hikaru' as he is right now)
Rie: (I might be able to tear him from that body)
Rie: (If the alternative is making him suffer, then for Yoshiki's sake as well)
Rie: (It's better that I take full responsibility)
Rie: (and deal with 'Hikaru'-kun...)

is it ever confirmed that Sydney is lying about The Beef being her dad's favorite restaurant growing up or is that just spec? I kinda got the vibe that was just something she came up with so she doesn't come across as stalkerish. It'll be interesting to see how the truth comes out 👀
It was not confirmed at the moment, but I feel like it was implied.
Let’s take a walk
S1 ep 1: There is a noticeable pause that Sydney takes after Carmy questions why she wants to work at the Beef. You’ll notice her diverting her eyes to the ceiling and her words getting slower in pace, seeming like the acting choice was deliberate to come off as a lie.
She also kind of slips up by telling Carmy she knows who he is. She asks “what are you doing here?” She doesn’t care much about the place and believes it is subpar, and I doubt that would be something she would word that way if it was a special place.
Richie would have known who she was. Richie works at the counter, he engages with the regulars that come into the Beef. If Syd went to the beef with her dad every Sunday, he would’ve recognised her. The show even signifies her being apart of the new things that Carmy is implementing when Richie says “don’t go hiring new fucking br*ads without talking to me first.”
S1 ep 2: she would’ve had an idea of who Mikey was if she was a regular. While Mikey does work in the kitchen, he is referred to as being a social person. So if her dad really appreciated The Beef, I think Mikey would’ve walked out to thank him for his patronage.
S1 ep 8: this is the most obvious one. In the dinner scene with Marcus, she tells him that her dad and she wouldn’t eat out a lot. This goes against ‘come here every Sunday.’
S2 ep 2: Her dad does not give a single damn about the Beef becoming the Bear. If it was a ‘special place’ he would’ve at least said something about it.
I also think that while Carmy could believe the story at the time, he subconsciously does not believe her either. I mean, he’s very intuitive with her. I think in s1 ep 6, it was where we saw his curiousity towards the matter, when he called everyone that she previously worked for. He said “because your resume is excellent, this place is not.” He’s still wondering why she even wants to work there.
And I do believe she lied as an effort to not look like some fangirl stalker. Syd does admire him, but she also wants to stand her ground with her position.
I think it’s also why the show was holding out an interaction between Carmy and Emanuel (Syd’s dad), maybe this is when the truth comes out. It would be enjoyable to watch!

If you're still taking prompts, how about some Alma being protective of Bruno once he comes back?
"I need a prophecy."
Alma takes a deep breath and folds her hands in front of her stomach. She is blocking Casita's doorway. Nonetheless she tries her best to look accommodating, while at the same time keeping the man in front of her from entering their home.
She likes Emanuel well enough. His parents had been dear friends and good people, even though they have apparently failed to instill some manners into their only child.
An uncomfortable thought enters her head.
Maybe it isn't so much a lack of manners, but a sense of entitlement. An entitlement the entire village seems to share in regard to her son's time and services and his gift. An entitlement she had done nothing to curb in the last fifty years.
'I need a prophecy.'
That sounds so familiar. She has heard that sentence a lot over the years. Not a question. A demand. One she had been all too willing to fulfill.
But that's not the truth either, is it? It hadn't been her dealing with the demands, but her son. Her son, who hadn't been willing at all, but who had done it anyway because years of guilting and insisting had whittled away at his ability to say no.
He still has trouble saying no and that is Alma's fault.
It's time for her to do what she should have done the first time a polite request had turned into an entitled demand.
"I assume," she drawls and straightens her posture "that I'm supposed to translate this into 'Can your son give me a prophecy, please,'?"
The last word leaves her lips like a gunshot.
Emanuel looks taken aback by the vitriol in her voice. "Uhm… I guess?"
"What do you need this prophecy for?"
The man bristles and blushes and that tells Alma everything she needs to know. He probably wants to know if his wife will cheat on him once again. Alma wonders why he thinks that the answer will be different from the other dozen times he's asked.
Odette is a passionate girl trapped in a loveless marriage. What answer does he expect?
"That's private!"
"Well, I'm afraid I can't let you in then. You see, Bruno doesn't give prophecies anymore unless it is a life or death kind of situation. And even then he might decline."
"This is life or death." At Alma's raised eyebrow he grows even more agitated. "She promised she won't do it again. I need to know what's going on between her and the baker."
"How about you ask her instead of my son?"
"No! I need a prophecy! I want a prophecy! It's your son's duty."
Alma breathes deeply.
'They need your visions, son. It's your duty!'
The nausea threatens to overwhelm her, but she won't show weakness now.
"The answer is no."
Emanuel looks like he might try to push past her, but Casita rattles the door menacingly and he steps back. He is breathing hard, but then a glint enters his eyes.
"Guess I'll have to ask your son himself the next time I see him in the village. He'd always been so accommodating, I'm sure I can make him see reason."
Bruno might see 'reason', but what Alma sees is red.
"So you need a prophecy that badly, Senor?"
Emanuel winces at the stiff address. He knows he has messed up, but there is no going back now.
"Si!"
"This is apparently of utmost importance to you." Alma pats his arm and leans in. "So allow me to take care of this myself. Here is your prophecy: your wife and the baker will make a very cute couple once she finally finds the courage to leave you and pursue him."
Emanuel sputters and huffs. "That's not-"
"You are right." Alma hasn't rudely cut off anyone like that in years and it feels good. "That's not really a prophecy, since everyone knows about their feelings except you. So here is another one. On the house, so to speak." She leans even closer and lowers her voice. "If you dare bother my son about this or any other prophecy, they won't ever find your body."
Alma doesn't think she is that scary. How could she be? Over 70 years old and so much smaller than Emanuel? But the man blanches alarmingly and hurriedly puts distance between them.
"The council will hear about this!", he shouts and runs away.
Alma is not worried. Let him go to the council to tell them that the holder of the candle, poised and kind Alma Madrigal, has threatened him.
Let's see how much they will believe him.
She closes the door and upon turning around only jumps a little when she comes face to face with her grinning nieto.
"Abuela!" Camilo exclaims with way too much glee. "Didn't know you had it in you!"
"I have no idea what you are talking about, hijo." Alma sniffs and walks past him with her nose held high "And I expect you to keep this to yourself."
"Sure thing, Abuela." After a short pause he adds "I'm sure Isabela would help you, though. I heard she's experimenting with flesh eating plants."
Alma doesn't react. It wouldn't be appropriate.
But it is something to keep in mind.
****************
The way Bruno hugs her from behind and gently kisses her head at dinner that night reminds Alma once again that you can't trust Camilo with a secret.
Her son's arms are tight around her and he shakily whispers 'Gracias Mama' into her neck.
'Oh well', she thinks as she takes the hand of her son and kisses a sore knuckle 'I guess I can let it slide this one time.'

Should Black America choose sides on Israel & Palestine?
Tumblr media
Mainstream Media has been particularly single minded in its narrative of the (latest) 'Conflict' in Gaza. Palestinian hardship is mentioned, but the focus has been on the Israeli hostages and an International rise in Anti Semitism. For some reason Zionist Groups, and more than a few Zionist individuals have been trying to persuade (guilt) Black America into fighting for their Cause. We understand how Black support for a Cause gives it legitimacy, but should We? The Voices of New Black Media have 2 general opinions, but neither is Pro- Israel.
One Opinion in New Black Media says that We should have some degree of solidarity w/ the Palestinian People. We can identify w/ their struggle, so We should speak out against it. Some opinions offer more support than others, but this is the gist of that Side of the Argument. The other Opinion expressed, is more indifferent. This Opinion says that Black America has problems at Home that require Our attention. We have In House Cleaning to do that will take Time and Energy; fighting for another's Cause diminishes Our ability to 'Do for Self'.
Black 'Personalities' in Mainstream Media are trying to create a schism w/i New Black Media, but it honestly isn't that deep. Black America is not a Monolith, so No One is going after the Other. I don't see a problem w/ 'The Family' having 2 specific mindsets. One is introverted and the Other is extroverted; together they give The Family a panoramic view- from Our perspective. Both Sides identify Jim Crow style Racism on display in Israel, so it's hard to empathize w/ a State that condones that policy. Israeli Officials go On Camera, and nonchalantly excuse War Crimes as necessary for the destruction of Hamas. Black America can't 'Rock w/ That'.
Black America's reluctance to support Israel's actions in Gaza has gotten under the skin of a few Zionists. The Usual Suspects (Ben Shapiro, Ed Blum, Ari Emanuel, Rabbi Schmuley) took their shots, but Michael Rappaport & Juliana Margulies' comments stand out. Both actually believe that Blackfolk OWE Jewishfolk something! They both offered the (early 20th Century) argument of: 'You wouldn't do it to Blackfolk, so why are you doing it to (European) Jews?' Rappaport threatened to make a List, for the 'next time' We come Hat in Hand... Michael Rappaport's family owned the #2 Black Music Radio Station in NYC (WKTU 92.3FM) during his childhood. He also brags about playing basketball in Brownsville, Bklyn as a Teen. I guess he thinks that his friendship w/ Q- Tip, his marriage to a Black Woman, and fathering her babies makes him some kind of 'Negro Whisperer'(?)
Since the Issue of Anti- Semitism & Black America rose (again) around Ye and Kyrie Irving, We have been backtracking Our relationship w/ Eastern European Jews. Professor Black Truth has mentioned on a few occasions that NAACP President Walter White is DIRECTLY responsible for convincing Afrikan Nations to support recognition of Israel in The United Nations. Later, Ralph Bunch was instrumental in Israel's survival after Al Nakba; he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his effort. When We examine the investments of Jewish American Businessmen (Legal & Illegal) in the State Of Israel; focusing on the role that Black labor, culture, and entertainment played in amassing this 'investment capital'- what exactly do We owe them?
Michael Rappaport threatened to compile a List, but Black America is already at work on Ours. It's very interesting to see so many Global Leaders and Corporate Giants concerned about Israel's 'National Security'. The World's outrage over the carnage in Gaza has revealed a soft spot in this Cabal of Governments, Multinationals, & Media. Governmental and Corporate Entities tried to threaten The Masses into compliance, but it appears that the Protesters are more emboldened. Universities that initially threatened Student Protesters are now inundated w/ them. It's South Afrika all over again! The Same Entities running interference for Israel, did the same thing in South Afrika. It took sustained Global pressure to get Corporations to divest in South Afrika, which broke the System of Apartheid.
America calls Israel an Ally, but Israel has attacked and killed American Soldiers dating back to the U.S.S. Liberty. The State Of Israel has identified Black American Men as a threat to their National Security. Why would any Zionist expect Our Support? Israeli History- up to the present, is an account of unprovoked First Strikes against a weaker adversary. They are Masters of 'throwing rocks, & hiding their hands'. Israeli Officials and their Mainstream Media collaborators are quick to start the narrative on Oct. 7th 2023; but Zionist aggression against Palestinians go back to The Stern Gang & other Jewish Mobsters during the 1930s. In fact, Palestinians have been dealing w/ Zionism since Nathan Birbaum's 'pilgramages' began in the 1890s... Norm Finkelstein has been giving lessons about the History of Zionism on various platforms, and people like Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro (no relation) confirm him.
Palestinian support is easy to understand- the daily pictures of Gaza speak volumes. While We can feel for the people, We can also understand the view of those who feel indifferent. Palestinians are similar to 19th Century Irish. In Ireland, the Irish people claimed to be in solidarity w/ Indigenous (Black) Americans. In America, they were active participants in Our oppression. The Ku Klux Klan is an Irish creation. In a similar manner, Palestinians come to America, and also participate in the oppression of Indigenous Black Americans. They set up businesses in Black Communities that rarely hire locally. In the case of Bodegas and Smoke Shops, they allow Street Crews (Sets) to:
Congregate on their Premises
Make Marijuana Sales inside & outside of their Premises
Set up prostitution in Shop Basements
In this regard, 'these' Palestinians are no different from the (so called) Arabs who STILL enslave Afrikans across N. Afrika, and call Black Americans 'Abeed' (Slave). These Store Owners have more solidarity w/ Drug Dealers, than everyday Blackfolk. They tend to look at Us w/ the same expression that Israelis give them. It's ironic how Arab Americans tend to live in close proximity to Jewish American Communities. Despite the friction, Arabs & Eastern European Jews share more similarities than differences.
Both are descendants of Eurasian 'Marauder' Tribes. The Khazarians migrated West, into Europe; The Seljukian Turks migrated South, into Arabia. If we're being honest, 'Modern Day Arabs' are not indigenous to Arabia. The True Arabs are now referred to as 'Bedouins' and 'Nomads', and have been systematically removed from most of their Land, via The Arabian Slave Trade... Black America needs to get better acquainted w/ Geopolitics. We're quick to denounce injustice, but not so quick to read between The Lines. America is NOT a Democracy, it IS a White Supremacist Republic. The 'Smith- Mundt Modernization Act of 2012' ensures that EVERY IMMIGRANT understands and complies w/ the Anti Black element of American Society. We can show solidarity w/ Others, but We have to be mindful that We don't have ANY (Collective) 'friends'. We tried to be 'friendly' for decades, & were disrespected by EVERYONE. We don't have any more cheeks to turn.
-The Ball is now in their Court.

The script for 7x17 Born-Again Identity wasn't all that different from what aired.
The thing that made it hit so tensely romantic n' horrifically raw (to the point that it made everyone uncomfortable, allegedly) was probably this seemingly innocuous little line: "Just-- take it. Please."
It's not just the symbolism of the coat being a symbol of their relationship, (though it is certainly that). The coat, like the Leviathan blossom in season 15, is a little smooshed, but it's still there, against all the odds. But this "just take it, please," line is just so desperate. It sounds dangerously close to "giving away your heart." Please.
Just take it. Please. Just take it. Please.
///
All the monsters, and Chuck, throughout the series, "just want your heart," (ex., the werewolf to Dean in 13x23 script), but Dean already gave it to Cas.
///
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He goes to the car trunk. Digs... Comes up with Cas's folded, stained COAT. DEAN: Dumb to keep. I know. I saw you-- dissolve or whatever. But, just in case. 'Casue I never stopped wanting to fix it either. So we got something in common. (re: the coat) Just-- take it. Please.
The script also calls to mind 7x10 Death's Door, where Bobby laments his fight with Karen, and not being able to fix their last fight. Bobby's dying act was to help direct them toward the whereabouts of Emanuel.
///
And then, after Dean finds Cas, he is so, so reluctant to tell Cas the awful truth, partially in order to spare him the pain of it. He knows that Cas, in his core, cares about doing the right thing. He knows that this will hurt him.
And...he's so afraid of Cas disappearing. Sam's dying, and Dean needs his help, but he's also, really, really taking an emotional hit by all of this.
Cas says, "Tell me. I'll be fine." And Dean is generally unhinged and distressed about that possibility: "How do you know?" Because being an angel is "bloody and corrupt," and Dean knows that it hurts Cas to be tangled up in all of it.
Tumblr media
DEAN (snapping) Think it's that cut and dry? Really?! (then) You know what he did. So what, tell him, he'll take it in stride? He could snap, disappear-- who knows!
///
On the heels of this:
Tumblr media
DEAN: No. Honestly-- I don't know if he's dead. All I can say is...whole thing couldn't be messier. (then, quieter) I could always shake if off. Anything. Might take a while, but I could. Then... Cas did this. And I just can't, I don't know why. CAS: It doesn't matter why. DEAN: What? Course that matters--
Of course it matters, because it's Dean's feelings. It's different! He doesn't know why! It's The Piece of the Puzzle that Dean keeps tearing at, not letting it scab over. It's the thing he's been working to understand about himself, from his outsized reactions to Cas not trusting him in season 6 to his incredible devastation at the events of season 7.
This will lead him to a dawning acceptance of why he can't shake Cas in season 8, and that will lead Dean to a sad, calm resolve to accept...whatever it will be.

“Trying to steal history.”
January 9, 2024
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
On Monday, President Biden delivered a stirring and spirited speech at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. In June 2015, members of the congregation at the church invited a stranger to join them for services. The stranger killed nine members of the church in the worst church-related shooting (to that point)—a mass killing that was racially motivated. President Obama delivered a eulogy for Pastor Clementa Pinckney of Mother Emmanuel AME Church that included his rendition of Amazing Grace a cappella.
[The video is here, Joe Biden speaks at Charleston church (start at the 26:00 minute mark), and the full text of the speech is here: Remarks by President Biden at a Political Event | Charleston, SC.]
Against the backdrop of the 2015 racially motivated mass shooting, President Biden addressed Trump's use of the “lost cause” of white supremacy to bolster his hate-fueled campaign. Biden said, in part,
On June 17th, 2015, the [nine] beautiful souls and five survivors invited a stranger into this church to pray with them. The word of God was pierced by bullets in hate and rage, propelled by not just gunpowder but by a poison — a poison that’s for too long haunted this nation. What is that poison? White supremacy. Oh, it is; it’s a poison. Throughout our history, it’s ripped this nation apart. This has no place in America. Not today, tomorrow, or ever. Now — now we’re living in an era of a second lost cause. Once again, there are some in this country trying — trying to turn a loss into a lie — a lie, which if allowed to live, will once again bring terrible damage to this country. This time, the lie is about the 2020 election, the election which you made your voices heard and your power known.
Biden tied the lost cause of white supremacy to Trump's 2020 loss, identifying both of as existential threats to the nation. He then pivoted to Trump's insurrection on January 6 and Trump's threat to continue that assault on democracy if he is elected to a second term in 2024.
Biden said, Just two days ago, we marked the third anniversary of one of the darkest days in American history: January the 6th. The day in which insurrectionists stormed the United States Capitol, trying for the first time in American history to stop the peaceful transfer of power in the country. We all saw with our own eyes the truth of what happened. That violent mob was whipped up by lies from a defeated former President . . . . We saw something on January 6th we’d never seen before, even during the Civil War. Insurrectionists waving Confederate flags inside the halls of Congress built by enslaved Americans. A mob attacked and called Black officers, Black veterans defending the nation those vile of racist names. And yet, an extreme movement of America, the MAGA Republicans, led by a defeated President, is trying to steal history now. They tried to steal an election. Now they’re trying to steal history, telling us that violent mob was, and I quote, “a peaceful protest.” The lies that led to January 6th are part of a broader attack on the truth America today that we all have seen before. The same movement that, throughout the mob at the United States Capitol, isn’t just trying to rewrite history of January 6th, they’re trying to determine to erase history and your future: banning books; denying your right to vote and have it counted; destroying diversity, equality, inclusion all across America; harboring hate and replacing hope with anger and resentment and a dangerous view of America.
Powerful words delivered with passion and dignity befitting the hallowed ground and the proximity to January 6. As Trump's speeches are becoming more unhinged and hateful, Biden’s are becoming more forceful and direct in challenging Trump. If you can spare twenty minutes, watch the video linked above, beginning at the 26:00-minute mark. Your confidence will be renewed.
But I can’t leave this story without commenting on the media coverage. Biden delivered a truly inspirational and important speech on race and democracy. For sixty seconds during Biden’s speech, a protestor stood up and demanded that Biden call for a cease-fire in Israel. Biden handled the protestor with skill and grace. As the protestor was escorted from the church, Biden said,
It's alright. I understand their passion. I’ve been quietly working with the Israeli government to get them to reduce and significantly get out of Gaza.
That sixty-second incident of an otherwise historic speech dominated virtually every headline describing the speech. See, e.g., NYTimes, Protesters Calling for Gaza Cease-Fire Interrupt Biden Speech; The Hill, Biden address in Charleston church interrupted by protesters; and NPR, Protesters calling for a ceasefire in Gaza interrupted Biden's campaign speech.
The bias against Biden is just unbelievable. I wonder if the headline writers or journalists who wrote the articles even bothered to read or listen to the substance of Biden’s speech. I doubt it. Shame on them!
Meanwhile, Trump hopes the economy crashes before he is re-elected.
As Biden continued to call for the preservation of democracy and mourned the tragedies of January 6 and the AME shootings, Trump was telling an interviewer he hoped the economy would crash during Biden’s remaining time in office. See The Hill, Trump says he hopes economy crashes in next 12 months: ‘I don’t want to be Herbert Hoover’.
Trump said,
We have an economy that’s so fragile, and the only reason it’s running now is it’s running off the fumes of what we did. It’s just running off the fumes. And when there’s a crash — I hope it’s going to be during this next 12 months because I don’t want to be Herbert Hoover. The one president I just don’t want to be, Herbert Hoover.
Ha! Trump remembered as Herbert Hoover? He should be so lucky! He will be remembered as Benedict Arnold, Aaron Burr, Jefferson Davis, and Aldrich Ames—combined!
And, in case you think I am resorting to hyperbole, Trump refused to sign a traditional pledge in Illinois in which presidential candidates pledge not to overthrow the US government. See The Guardian, Donald Trump did not sign Illinois pledge not to overthrow government. Trump signed the pledge in 2016 and 2020, but not in 2024. Hmm . . . it’s almost like he’s planning ahead to overthrow the US government!

She's trying to archive Black Twitter. It's a delicate and imperfect task
Tumblr media
Meredith Clark hopes that preserving Black Twitter will allow for a more accurate retelling of the history of the internet. Dare Kumolu, Kumolu Studios hide caption
Black Twitter has been a force since the platform started, creating a space for everything from discussing daily life to helping launch and spotlight movements like #BlackLivesMatter and #OscarsSoWhite.
Now, one woman is seeking to archive it, as Twitter's future appears uncertain.
Who is she? Meredith Clark is an associate professor of communications and journalism at Northeastern University. She is launching the Archiving Black Twitter project as part of the Archiving the Black Web initiative.
Clark's research focuses on "the intersections of race, media, and power in digital, social, and news media," according to her university bio, and she has also spent years working as an editor, editorial writer and columnist.
She says the term Black Twitter has many definitions, and hers is: "A network of culturally linked communicators who are using the platform to talk about issues of concern to Black life and in Black life."
What's the big deal? Clark says preserving Black Twitter will allow for a more accurate and complex retelling of the history of the internet. But it's not a simple task.
Clark says it's impossible to collect — or even distill — the whole of Black Twitter. So instead there will be a collection of what are called "small histories."
They are "parts and pieces of what has happened in this place and time, but they are not the end-all-be-all of Black Twitter," Clark told NPR, adding that it's a delicate balance.
NPR's Dara Kerr and Bobby Allyn report that since Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October, the company's staff has been whittled down to about 10% of what it was before, following mass layoffs and others quitting. "Outages have become far more common [and] overall system bugginess has also become the norm for many users," they report.

What is Clark saying? Speaking to NPR's Juana Summers, Clark outlined why the project was important — and feeling increasingly urgent.
On the power of preserving stories:
The power of that preservation is making sure that accurate narratives are told. There are so many instances where people might have forgotten about the truth of how something unfolded. One that sticks out in my mind is that, recently, there was coverage that made reference to Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, signing legislation to take down the Confederate flag over that state's Capitol following the massacre of the Emanuel Nine. And I took issue with that reporting because it erased the work of Bree Newsome and her comrades in actually scaling the flagpole at the state Capitol and taking that flag down. And without the witnessing that folks were able to do on Twitter, that narrative might be lost. And I think that that is just one reflection of many stories that require us to have plenty of evidence to make sure that they are told correctly.
On whether the changing dynamics of Twitter itself add more urgency to the work she's doing:
It does. It almost adds a sense of desperation. At this point, Twitter is now reaching out to researchers who have large-scale Twitter datasets and, in some cases, asking them to delete that data. And if that data is deleted, then it leaves those of us who study this grasping for information and grasping for records.
So, what now?
The project launched this year and Clark says she is working with collaborators and inviting others to the project.

"There's a version of Black Twitter that I can talk about, that I've written about, that I study. But everyone who is a part of Black Twitter has a perspective on it. And by that regard, they have something to offer," she said.

From the Article:
Rapper Kanye West complained that former President Donald Trump was being controlled by Jews and invoked the Holocaust in a podcast interview Monday evening with the two white nationalists he brought to a dinner with Trump last week, Milo Yiannopoulos and Nick Fuentes, one of the country’s most prominent young white supremacists. The gathering at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Florida home, was widely condemned by Democrats and Republicans, including Trump’s Jewish allies.
In an interview with political commentator Timothy Tooler on his podcast, Timcast, that was livestreamed on YouTube, West said he “would have never wanted to do anything that hurt Trump” but said Jews controlled him and past presidents, invoking the longstanding and false antisemitic trope. “Rahm Emanuel was next to Obama and Jared Kushner was right next to Trump,” West said. Emanuel, the Jewish former mayor of Chicago, was former President Barack Obama’s first chief of staff, while Kushner, who is Jewish, was a senior adviser to his father-in-law.
West, who legally changed his name to Ye, has made antisemitic comments since 2013 and lost major sponsorships following recent anti-Jewish tirades.
During the 20-minute interview, West said Jews want to lock him up over tax evasion. “Jewish people say, it’s the Holocaust — this happened and you can’t say anything about it,” he said. “We can’t take their pain away. No one’s going to denounce the fact that they tried to lock me up.” He added: “When I found out that they tried to put me in jail, it was like a dog was biting my arm and I almost shed a tear, almost, but I still walked in stride through it.”
West abruptly left the studio — followed by Fuentes and Yiannopoulos, who claims to have arranged the Mar-a-Lago dinner — when the podcast host gently challenged his antisemitic views that “they” — meaning Jews — aim to silence him. “We can’t say who ‘they’ is, can we?” West asked.
“You don’t believe in my truths,” West said to one of the podcast’s co-hosts, Luke Rudkowski, who tried to convince him to return. “You guys are denying it and I don’t want to have this conversation.”
West, who recently announced he would run for president in 2024, said he’s “the only American that we know that really deserves to run the country” because he lost money for the freedom of speech. Trump has also announced he plans to run.
so this is fine, one of the most famous people in the world who has a billion dollars (or at least used to) has decided to dedicate his life full time to antisemitism and has enlisted two of the world's worst bottom feeding troll scum to help him with that
and then they all had dinner with a former President, who's running for President again and the odds on favorite to win his party's nomination.
this is fine......

Swedenborgianism: Beliefs
From The Swedenborgian Church of North America
The Swedenborgian tradition values freedom of thought in matters of belief. Any precepts of faith that we accept should make sense to our minds and our hearts.
For this reason, the Swedenborgian Church of North America avoids making definitive statements on doctrine, in order that all people of faith might come to their own conclusions. We welcome good faith dissent and discussion around the many ideas contained in Swedenborg’s works, which has produced a rich tradition of theological discourse.

The Nature of God
God is loving, and is never angry, judging or punishing. Swedenborg shared in his theological writings a view of God as infinitely loving and at the very center of our beings. In his view, God is Love and Wisdom itself, quite literally incapable of judgment, punishment or anger. It is our call to be vessels of this love, and to share it, whatever form it may take. The emphasis is not on accepting particular doctrines, but rather on leading a life of love. The oneness of God is emphasized; Divine Love is represented by the Father and Mother imagery of the Bible, and Jesus is the incarnation of Divine Wisdom. Divine Love and Divine Wisdom come together in Divine Action, represented by the Holy Spirit.
Inner Meaning of the Bible
The Bible is a symbolic story of our inner lives, and speaks to us on many levels. One of the most important elements of Swedenborg’s theology is the principle that the Bible has an inner, spiritual meaning within the text, meaning that the stories in the Bible depict deeper spiritual realities within us. The entire biblical story unfolds as a personal spiritual journey from the Garden of Eden in the book Genesis, to the Holy City in the book of Revelation. The many twists and turns found in the stories depict the journey we all must take if we are to be spiritually regenerated. This means that problematic or difficult statements in the Bible do not need to be taken literally.
Regeneration (Spiritual Growth)
We are called to a life-long process of personal spiritual transformation. “The purpose of creation is a heaven of the human race.” -Emanuel Swedenborg, Divine Providence 323. The spiritual task of life on earth is to overcome our ingrained selfish tendencies and to learn to love God and others more fully. In this way, we enter into closer union with God. It is a life-long process (perhaps an eternal one). This path of growth can be challenging, but it can also help us to learn more about who we are and what we have to bring to the world.
Divine Providence
In all things, God works to bring out goodness and growth. In every moment God is seeking to bring about good. In this way, there is a general flow of providence that is working to draw us all toward the heavenly life. God does not ordain tragedy, but within a tragic or traumatic moment the Lord can bring about amazing good through inspiring those involved to heal themselves and become healers for others, by inspiring communities to come together in love and justice. This stream of providence is always flowing; sometimes we can see it and sometimes we can’t. It is like a cross stitch: on the back it is often quite messy but when you look at it from the front yo u can see the beauty of the pattern emerge.
The Spiritual World
The world of spirit is real. Swedenborg reported that the spiritual world was very real, more real than this world, and that each of us has an eternal spiritual body (our soul) that will continue to live on after our earthly bodies give out. This spiritual world is very close to us. It can sometimes be seen through personal mystical experience, intuition, moments of prayer, artistic expression, powerful acts of kindness, loving community, and insight into the deeper truth of scripture as we make it real in the way we live our lives.
Heaven and Angels
Heaven is a place of mutual love and variety. Angels are people who have lived in this world. Swedenborg reported back that angels were not another species of being, but are all people (of any faith) who have lived good lives by the best that they know and now find their place in heaven. In heaven, angels live in community; they marry, work, play and enjoy diverse pleasures and joys. They also interact with this world, watching out for us, bringing us love and comfort, and helping us to overcome spiritual battles. Swedenborg wrote extensively about the lives of angels in one of his most popular works, Heaven and Hell.
What about Hell?
Hell is a not a punishment but a reflection of our own states of selfishness; we are not cast into hell but choose it freely. Swedenborg was given to visit and see not only the heavenly realms but the hellish. He came back to report that while God is always drawing us toward love and the life of heaven, this is never done with compulsion. Human beings are always given the freedom to choose a life of selfishness and domination over a life of mutual love. We see hell as a state of being that manifests itself when we are trapped in self-interest and destructive cycles, and are unable or unwilling to respond to the promptings of love that God is offering us. Part of the journey of life, for all of us, is to go through these states of ‘hell’ and come out on the other side more capable of loving ourselves and others in a healthy and effective way.
Salvation
People from all religions (or no religion) go to heaven if they live a life of integrity and kindness, in alignment with what they understand to be true. Salvation is about engaging with an ongoing process of transformation, rather than believing the “right” thing. A God of love would never condemn people to hell for not having the “right” faith. The most important part of our spiritual process is how we use what we know, and how open we are to learning. What we believe only becomes real when we act according to our belief. It is important to know truth and to seek truth about God, but the development of our inner spiritual character depends upon us using the truth we know to love our neighbor. And not just love in an abstract way, but to do good things for their benefit. Salvation, therefore, is an ongoing process of transformation. By serving our neighbor in mutual love, we create an ever larger capacity within ourselves to love God, and we are “saved” from our own worst tendencies.
The Second Coming
The Second Coming is an unfolding spiritual reality, already occurring and continuing to occur within us. The idea of the second coming throughout the history of Christianity has always been a little controversial. Is it going to happen in our lifetime? Will there really be wars on the earth and will some people really just disappear from the earth in an instant and be taken up to heaven? Will the dead rise from their graves?
Swedenborg reported that the Second Coming had actually begun to take place in his lifetime – and in fact is still taking place. It is not an actual physical appearance of the Lord, but rather a returning of spirit and truth within each of us.
“At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.” Mark 13:26 refers not to a physical spectacle but to the way God will come out of the ‘clouds’ or our own foggy understanding to be more clearly revealed to us. This is continually happening as the world grows in love and wisdom.
