winter be my shield is making me consider very important questions like “can i call this character my poor little meow meow if he was introduced torturing one of the main characters?”
#i'm leaning towards a yes#the thing about rasten is that he's an awful person who does awful stuff but also has had terrible things happen to him as well#there's a part where he says it's better to give pain than receive and knowing bits of his backstory it made me go auuughhhh#it's a bit like zuko in book 1 of atla where he's the one chasing the mc but he represents a greater evil that is also bad to him#anyway. many thoughts on this book i wish anyone else on the internet had read it#it's complicated bc i also like isidro (the character who was tortured) but ah well this book is all about shades of moral grayness#winter be my shield#children of the black sun#jo spurrier#books#pie says stuff#pie reads
