/1. 영화 ‘마녀’ 시리즈와 결이 같습니다. (둘 다 보신 분은 무슨 말인지 알 거) 이런 결의 영화는 언제나 있었다는 면을 상기하는 데에서 굉장히 흥미롭군요.

2. 장르가 ‘미스테리’라고만 나와서 별 마음의 준비 없이 봤는데. 왜 아무도 공포라곤 얘기 안 하는 거...? 개봉했을 당시에 ‘오, 좀 무섭겠는데?’라고만 생각했는데 좀 많이 무섭습니다. (내 기준) 포스터가 괜히 그렇게 나온 게 아니었어.

3. 원래 영화 취향의 본진 장르가 스릴러였는데 말이죠. 요즘 들어 말랑말랑한 것만 보다가 이 장르로 돌아오니 내성이 약해진 느낌도 좀 듭니다.

4. 역사적으로 들어가면 비판할 것이 끝도 없이 많지만 난 표면적으로 감상하는 편을 택했다. 일제의 만행이야. 그때 일본인들이 우리나라 사람들을 인체 실험에 이용해서 의료 기술이 비약적으로 발전했다는 건 언제 상기해도 용서 못 하는 사실이죠. (일본이라는 나라의 모든 국민을 싫어하는 게 아님을 누차 강조! 그 역사적 사실을 덮고 무시하는 사람들에게 빡칠 뿐. 우리나라를 옹호하고 자국의 행보를 비판하고 직시하는 일본인들도 당연히 많으니까요.)

5. 이해영 감독님은 애초에 영화를 흥행 쪽보다 본인이 인정받는 목표로 만드신 게 아닐까 싶었다. 일단 소규모 제작이란 게 바로 그거고요. 흥행은 하지 못했지만 이걸로 여러 상을 받고 많이 인정받으셨으니. 그런 면에서 가치가 있는 듯하다. 감독님의 목적이랄까? (개인적인 의견)

6. 어쨌든 심장 쫄깃해하면서 봤습니다. 재미도 있고요. 그래서 저평가된 느낌도 강합니다. 영화의 장르는 미스테리+스릴러+액션+공포, 이 넷이 공존하는데 액션을 조금 더 넣었으면 좋겠다는 생각이다. 장르를 액션으로도 아예 구분 짓고 주인공들의 능력치를 마구 보여줬다면. 영화의 런닝타임은 길어지겠지만 관객들이 더 환영하지 않았을까 싶다. 나는 그러함!

7. 난 이런 결말일 줄 몰랐어... 영화 줄거리 상 너무 당연한 결말이지만. 나는 약간 박찬욱 감독님의 ‘아가씨’ 같은 작품의 결말을 원했다고!

8. 박소담, 박보영, 엄지원 배우님 연기야 말해 뭐해. 공예지 님 연기가 너무 좋았는데 활동이 뜸하셔서. 흑흑. 연기력에 비해 작품 활동이 너무 없는 것 아닌가요. 단편 영화라도 간간이 출연해주셨으면.

9. 한정된 공간 안에서 벌어지는 서스펜스가 역시 기대 이상이네요. 그런 공간에서 자아내는 매력이 있음. 예를 들면 알프레드 히치콕의 ‘이창’이라던가, ‘여고괴담’ 시리즈라던가. 오히려 예산은 적게 쓰면서 긴장감은 최고로 돋는. 일석이조 아닙니까? 폐쇄된 공간에서 느끼는 사람들의 공포 심리가 분명 있나 보다. 서서히 숨통을 조여오는. 도망갈 데가 없는 장치 말이다.

10. 어쨌든 너무 재밌게 봤다. 강추! 그리고 영상미가 너무 예뻐요. 미스테리인데 왜 화면은 아름답고 난리...

Take Me To Church and Foreigner’s God are scathing critiques of organized religion, specifically the Catholic Church and the colonization of Ireland.

Moment’s Silence is about oral sex but it’s ALSO about how that specific sexual act is often distorted to a show of power rather than that of love.

Nina Cried Power is an homage to various (mostly Black) civil rights activists from the US and Ireland and a call to follow their path.

Be criticizes anti-migrant policies and Trump and his ilk.

Jackboot Jump is about the global wave of fascism and about protest and resistance.

Swan Upon Leda is about reproductive rights and the violent colonial oppression of Ireland and Palestine.

Eat Your Young is about the ruinous way the 1%/capitalism and arms dealers prioritize short-term profit over everything else to the detriment of the youth/99%

Butchered Tongue is about Irish and other indigenous languages being suppressed and erased by imperial powers.

does anyone have like an anti aesthetic. like something you look at and can recognize as a complete fashion/interior design/artistic movement and understand it but it makes you shudder seeing it. i am not talking like “its morally bad” “its poorly structured” like just sheerly devoid of joy for you actually invites a repulse response.
