Snippet Sunday

Hey everyone!

First non-masterlist adjacent post from my new - hopefully final - sideblog. (I’m such an optimist… or blind to my own failings - whichever way you wanna dice it 😆.) what an undertaking - just trying to figure out how to sort and share all this has been exhausting and I’m like - not even half done. Making covers for fanfics threatens to consume my life for the foreseeable future lol

Anyway!

Wanted to share what I’ve been working on this week since I’m back to writing A Story Set in Sparta and some of y’all very kindly take an interest in my messing about with *waves a hand* all that.

[I also have some fanfic in the works, related to the Good Spartan, but it’s too early to share any of that just yet :)]

I’m having a moment with this project in the sense that I really want to get it finished, and for the longest time, it’s been stalled mostly because it just… wants to be poetry, and I’ve been fighting against that direction.

I mean - poems about Sparta seems like a crazy concept, but I’ve given in and embraced it.

So I’m now doing that.

I use poetry very loosely here because the form of poetry I write is really just deconstructed prose, and I’ve been told before (by one of my sisters) that it sucks lol but there’s a chance I will tinker it back to prose at some point.

Here it is: A snippet from A Story Set in Sparta.

Helen. [453 BC]

Nikaia, I’ve been calling you!

It is time to come in.

The eight-year-old looked up

from her reddened hands

stained by late autumn berries

and frowned at her nurse.

She said sternly, her best imitation of command,

Maia! You shouldn’t address me in that tone. You’re not my mother.

Maia hesitated at the top of the slope.

She’d been nurse to the girl

since her pater died

a hero of Tenagra;

but she'd always known that one day

Nikaia would turn on her.

They always did.

Your Aunt Theano has given me the care of you.

She sounded more tentative than she’d intended.

I speak on her behalf.

Nikaia narrowed her eyes,

considering her words.

Aunt Theano had no time for misbehaviour,

but she wasn’t there.

She wondered how far she could push Maia.

How far before she lost her temper.

Before she reported her behaviour…

Sweeping a handful of golden-brown hair out of her face

an impatient huff,

she decided against it.

Theano had left the house in a fierce temper.

Well, I’m here. What do you want?

The evening meal is prepared.

Your aunt will be home any moment.

She looked up at the sky.

Is it so late?

The men go to the syssition even now.

As if to emphasise her statement,

a small group of men passed by,

talking between themselves,

headed towards the syssition

that lay on the other side of the akropolis,

visible in the near distance.

She dropped the berries she still held,

and hurried to where Maia stood.

Her defiance forgotten.

Together, they went back into the town of Pitana,

the most important village in Sparta

hastening up the hill towards home.

Ahead, at the top of the steep sloping town

the house of the Agiad kings.

Unostentatious,

but with an air about it

Captivating to Nikaia.

She often saw king Pleistoanax,

passing on his way

to Gerousia, Assembly, or Syssition.

She’d always felt a little awestruck.

Her thoughts were interrupted by her aunt

waiting for her at the door,

her brow in deep furrows,

tension in her shoulders.

Where have you been?

The men go to the syssition

and the priestess of Elena awaits us at the Menelaion.

Nikaia had forgotten their evenings business.

Sorry, Aunt. I was searching for berries.

Theano stared at her in horror.

Her voice was sharp edged, brittle.

You were what?

Why weren’t you practicing the dance?

You know that the festival is near,

and you aren’t ready.

I thought you'd been taken to the gymnasium.

Did Maia not take you?

She felt her lip wobble.

I went!

I was on my way home when I turned aside...

Theano cut her off with a scoff,

paired with a glare

She coldly turned inside.

Nikaia followed, her heart sinking into the floor.

Her aunt would never like her,

no matter what she did –

only if Helen would make her beautiful;

only if she somehow improved at her dancing –

and she couldn't practice more than she already did.

It was hopeless.

everything you said about Captain Britain on my post on my sideblog, I 100 FUCKING PERCENT AGREE!!!

It also bothered the hell out of me in the first episode of Ms. Marvel that at Avengercon, no one was dressed in Sam’s Cap suit?? And there was nothing to do with him at all?? Like that had ALL that Avenger’s merch/meet-n-greets with cosplayers/signs up and everything but yet they couldn’t do ANYTHING for Sam?? REALLY??

Like, if Ms Marvel is set somewhere in 2024 and Sam became Cap in May of 2023, then there would be plenty of time for people to be fans of Sam! You’d think people would be fans of Sam as Falcon for years anyways (cause he was a Avenger whereas Bucky wasn’t even one and people forget that)! His suit is cool as hell, why wouldn’t people want to cosplay it and have fun with it?? But Marvel Studios THEMSELVES continue to ignore Sam’s presence and importance while they continue to hype of a lady who we all watched literally die in a movie that came out 8 years ago…

The battle to get people and the MCU themselves to care about Sam and recognize his importance is just exhausting… I just can’t wait for Anthony to bring in a stellar performance that knocks everyone’s socks off in Cap4 and hopefully it gets some people to see how incredible he is. It’s sad too that he has to prove himself to the these people when he’s being proving how amazing he is for the past 8 years ugh.

SKY I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SEND YOU AN ASK ABOUT THAT POST BC YOU SAID EVERYTHING I WAS THINKING JUST IN A MUCH MORE WELL-SPOKEN AND WELL-PUT WAY!! Seriously that post was SPOT ON, and it is so infuriating (although not surprising) that this is still a conversation that needs to be had.

I forgot to mention Avengers-Con from Ms. Marvel in my rant but yes!! There was even merch for Groot?? GROOT who was on earth for how many mins in Infinity War and then how many minutes in endgame?? When Sam has been saving earth for YEARS. SAM SHOULD HAVE HAD HIS OWN MERCH/COSPLAYERS/ETC THERE!!!

And looking back at Sam’s time as Falcon, he was involved in the community a lot, both for his time in the VA and as an Avenger. He would have easily been a household name just like Captain America and Iron Man. So you KNOW that people in the MCU definitely looked up to him as their hero, admired him, and created merch for him. Yet we, the audience, don’t see that because they don’t show us anything about Sam. Unless I’m mistaken, we have not gotten a single mention of Sam since TFATWS. Even with Kate Bishop, Peter Parker, and Kamala Khan all being massive fans of the Avengers, there’s still no mention of Sam??

And yet, we get to see Captain Carter. We get to see promotions for her. And we don’t get that for Sam, who is actually Captain America!!! The racism both in the fandom and at marvel is apparent and appalling. Anthony has been fantastic since day 1 and somehow has managed to improve an already stellar performance?? He’s incredible!! He’ll absolutely knock Cap4 out of the park. But marvel and the fandom refuses to acknowledge that SAM IS CAPTAIN AMERICA. It’s so frustrating. Anthony deserves better. Sam deserves better.

omg—so have you finished your teen wolf watch-through yet or is it still in progress alongside the naruto watching?

no spoilers at all in what i’m about to say, but i literally just watched teen wolf for the first time a couple months ago and i love your merlin meta, so the serendipity of you watching teen wolf right now is like ✨yes✨

anyway, i would love to hear your thoughts on s5&s6 bc basically everyone i know (who has seen the show) told me to just stop watching after s3 but i ended up finishing the whole thing anyway bc i grew too attached to many of the characters 😂 if you’re comfortable chatting in dms, i would be totally down to talk more detail there—but also i would be excited to see any teen wolf posts from you, if you feel inclined to make any, bc like i said, you always have such a wonderful way of talking through things and sharing your perspective on stuff and i always love reading your metas but also most of the people i’ve been talking to about teen wolf watched it so long ago (and only the first few seasons of the show besides) that it’s just not the same 😂

Teen Wolf is still in progress alongside Naruto, but I'm getting closer to the end - we've got four episodes left in Season 5 (part 2), and then we're moving on to Season 6!

Everyone who told you to stop watching after Season 3 was probably right, or at least that's the impression I'm getting so far - I obviously haven't seen S6 yet, and I'm happy to be going into it not knowing anything about it, but I haven't enjoyed S4 and S5 the way I wish I could have, and that makes me doubtful about whether S6 can course-correct in a way that satisfies me. But hope springs eternal - I always go into new seasons optimistically; I was really enjoying the first couple episodes of S5 before it started to lose me, so I'll start S6 with the same open-mindedness.

My Teen Wolf watch actually started a looong time ago - I started watching back in 2015 (never as it was airing, though; I always just watched it on DVD) and got hooked partway through S1. I watched the first three seasons all in a row and was totally in love with it, but the very end of 3B (*cough*allison*cough*) made me so angry that I stopped watching for like two and a half years. Then I came back and watched S4...and it was so terrible that I stopped watching again for another three years. And now...I am finally finishing. XD

There is a LOT of Teen Wolf on my blog; it was my main fannish interest for years even when I wasn't actively watching new episodes, and it's still what I consider one of my "big" fandoms, despite the fact that I've been running around in Merlin and Naruto-land lately. My general Teen Wolf tag is (predictably) "teen wolf", and then I also use "pan watches teen wolf" for thoughts about episodes I'm in the process of watching (currently working on one of those posts right now).

There will likely be many more Teen Wolf posts here as I work my way through the end of S5 and all of S6, and I'd be totally happy to talk about it anytime! I do find it a lot easier to reply to asks or reblog conversation threads back and forth than use the tumblr messaging function - I don't have a problem with dms or anything like that, it's just that the messaging window is SO tiny and I have a much easier time with longer-form/asynchronous communication (things like Discord servers give me hives, and I have similar trouble with texting, so. I guess I am just Old. XD )

AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! i made a post way back when i hadn’t even made this sideblog yet about my hcs for the team BUT i’ve been thinking some thoughts so here are the new ones!!

okay. i’ve already said this. but. trans lesbian emily prentiss. this is my favorite fucking thing ever, no i do not accept constructive criticism.

ummmm OH bisexual trans man hotch and bisexual trans woman haley!!! i love them so much

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA pan trans woman penelope !! i read a fic with it and it literally makes everything go AAAAAAAA

jj is a bisexual nonbinary woman, she’s always been unsure of her sexuality (not sure how to define her attraction to women vs not sure if she actually was attracted to men) and it wasn’t until recently that she finally came to terms with her bisexuality after lots of support + research from the team. she’s also never quite felt comfortable with herself-- she just figured it was from first being stuck in the place of her trauma for multiple years and then working in an environment surrounded by horror for most her life, but even as she gets older she still doesn’t understand her uneasiness at being addressed as ma’am, mrs, etc. she spends some time with reid and discovers the word nonbinary and is like oh! oh. now that she’s more aware of her gender identity, she doesn’t mind being referred to with feminine addressment/characteristics although it’s not her exact preference.

tara uses queer! her gender’s a bit all over the place, and she sometimes might use graysexual when describing her attraction (or lack thereof), but most of the time she sticks to queer.

spencer is bisexual and nonbinary, which is a super common hc i’ve seen in the fandom :D i’m glad we all agree on that hehe his relationship with gender is p relaxed, has mostly androgyne aspects

morgan is bisexual and cis man, a lot of internalized homophobia/biphobia he manages to ultimately overcome

ummmmmmmmmmm OH luke is bi ace trans man! i love him So Much

elle is aro bi (preference for women) and cis female! was talking about this with @ellegreenawy -- at first she’s afraid her lack of romantic attraction is bc she’s been playing into this “bad bitch” persona for so long it fucked up her attraction n shit but it’s nothing like that that’s just who she is and we love her

blake is a bi trans woman because i said so

matt is bi and cis male! kristy is a straight trans woman <3

about me tag game thing

i was tagged by the wonderful @nothingunrealistic! thank you very much ily <3

under read more bc i was not capable of keeping my answers brief this time around

why did you choose your url?

this...was supposed to be a short explanation but it turned into quite a tale so strap in i guess because we are going on a ride. back in 2017 i was just getting into musical theatre rp and i was still feeling too shy to really talk to anyone ooc so i would just wait for people i wanted to interact with to post starter calls so i could just do things in character with them the easy way. So i did this with my friend cam, who posted a starter for me using a lyric from If I Could Tell Her. she linked the song so i could listen to it, so i did and i went ‘wait a minute, is that Ben Platt from Pitch Perfect?? (and other things too, but i only recognized his voice at the time bc of the acappella girl movies)’ and yes it certainly was.

i had zero idea what the plot of Dear Evan Hansen was about at that point, and for some reason based off Just That One Song and the poster art of who i assumed was Some Guy in a Polo Shirt i started to think it was about some jock guy who broke his arm and had an emo/goth friend who had either died or gone missing under mysterious circumstances. also i intuited that Evan had a crush on his friend’s sister but he couldn’t tell her that directly or his emo friend would kick his ass. so i was like mostly wrong, but a little bit right.

oh and i knew jared and alana were characters from the show bc cam said that they were i think?? but i had no idea what their role was. so after listening to if i could tell her, i listened to good for you and all i really got out of that was that evan the apparently not-jock guy had done...something... that really hurt jared and alana. and at that point i finally decided to go look up a plot synopsis and i found out i was waaay off base. but honestly this is why cast recordings should include scene dialogue in the songs bc otherwise you just get soundtracks like dear evan hansen where the songs have like. zero context. we really just go from waving through a window to for forever to sincerely me without like. any reason as to what is happening huh. It’s honestly not a surprise anymore that all those people on twitter had no idea the plot isn’t about gay teenagers.

anyways. cam was writing jared and she made a post at one point about wishing somebody would write alana and i was like ‘oh i could do that!’ (after i had actually Seen a bootleg and finally knew what the whole story was, of course) so i made a multimuse rp blog featuring alana beck, nabulungi hatimbi, chloe valentine and some other characters, and cam started sharing her headcanons with me that alana is trans, jared and alana were close friends when they were little kids but they sort of drifted apart as they got older and their priorities in life changed, jared was the first person alana came out to when she realized she’s trans, etc.

one night i started talking about wanting to pick a more theatre-relevant url for my blog and trans-[character name] urls were getting pretty popular, and at least 3 of the friends i made through rp had changed theirs to coordinating trans-[character name] and i think it was cam suggested i should make mine be trans-alana so i did. eventually i realized the unhyphenated version was available so i changed it to transalana with no hyphen and i have lived here ever since. sometimes i think about changing it but i feel like transalana has become a part of My Brand and i am not so great with coming up with cool names for things.

any side blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them

in theory, i have sideblogs... i don’t really use them, but of the ones i do have, there is:

emsbookblog - this was supposed to be where i would post excerpts of the book that i’m working on, but i think i did that maybe one time roughly 2 years ago and then promptly forgot about it/got nervous about my writing and was scared to share anything else. the rest of the stuff that is there is assorted writing tips. i don’t really know what to do with it now. i probably should post all my little thoughts about em and anita and caleb there instead of infodumping on my main from time to time, but if i do that then i have to promo a sideblog and direct people over to it which is always annoying to me when i could just do it on this blog which is much easier

dearnovelhansen - this is basically no longer used, but was a sideblog i made specifically to talk/complain about the novel adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen which was about 3 years ago?? maybe? i can’t be trusted to understand the passage of time. but to summarize: i thought it was an honor just to have the story be made more accessible since many of us couldn’t see the stage performance, but i hated a lot of the creative liberties that were taken. my main grumbles are that everyone who isn’t evan or connor is done so dirty in the novel. connor’s still kind of done dirty in the book, but not as much as like. heidi, alana, jared, and zoe are.

horseisle3 - this one was meant to be a place where i could just enthusiastically post screenshots from hi3, but instead it turned into a blog where i occasionally reblog other players’ hi3 content and bitch about how bad the game admins are bc hi3 is the tumblr famous (infamous?) homophobic horse game. the game where it was once okay to call your club store the gulag bc according to their head of hr, ‘it’s just a russian word for prison’ but you can’t say ‘im gay’ without somebody accusing you of corrupting young children who play the game. unfortunately there aren’t very many good interactive horse games out there, so this one is still about as good as it gets. it’s either that or star stable and i don’t care about star stable.

mlaenie - i’ve had this url saved for i don’t even know how long. way way way back in the day when i wanted to escape from the clutches of the onceler fandom i abandoned my first blog where i basically had an alter ego i guess?? and i decided to just be myself on the new blog. i don’t fully remember who came up with it, but one of my sister’s mutuals suggested that if you scrambled the letters in your name you could come up with aesthetic-looking urls. so lauren’s url became lrauen, and to match with her mine became mlaenie, which i abandoned on tumblr after about a year or so? but have continued to use as my main username on twitter, reddit, youtube, xbox, steam, and discord. i barely ever use any of these accounts aside from twitter, steam, and xbox, but yeah. so i’ve decided to try and turn this empty sideblog into a place for video game thoughts maybe. we’ll see how long it lasts this time around.

how long have you been on tumblr?

i made my first tumblr account in december of 2010, but i didn’t understand how to use it at all or how to customize my theme to look cool and unique so i quickly abandoned it. i made a new account in september of 2011 after some kids at school and my sister told me i should and i have been trapped here with varying degrees of activity/inactivity ever since. i have witnessed the rise and fall of the lorax/onceler fandom, hyperfocused on lord of the rings, star wars and back to the future all at the same time, and for the past 4 years i’ve mostly been a musical theatre blog with assorted other fandom stuff mixed in. i feel i have seen everything and nothing, but mostly i’m just tired and bored.

do you have a queue tag?

no bc i don’t use a queue. i’ve tried using it in the past but i irrationally feel pressured to sustain a coherent theme to queued posts and my brain simply does not vibe with that so i just don’t use it at all anymore. Instead i instantly reblog or post several unrelated thoughts in succession and then don’t post again at all for 3 days. the way god intended

why did you start your blog in the first place?

my very first blog was intended to be a place for me to post all of my petz 5 animals’ profile info, but i didn’t have any understanding of how coding worked at all and i don’t think i really wanted to learn, either. so it just sat there, unused. my second attempt at blogging was as a classic rock fandom person, so as you can probably imagine i was pretty pretentious about ‘modern pop’ vs the beatles, the rolling stones, the who, the monkees, and so on. and then i slowly devolved into a lorax fandom blog and everything went to shit so i made a new blog for lord of the rings/the hobbit which later evolved to include star wars and back to the future blogging. and then for the past 4 years i’ve been mainly a musical theatre blog with other random stuff i like thrown haphazardly into the pot. wonderful.

why did you choose your icon/pfp?

because my url is transalana and two of my most prominent lgbt headcanons are that alana beck is trans and a lesbian. i gotta be shouting out @kinqmike though bc she’s the one i adopted the trans alana beck headcanon from in the first place!

why did you choose your header?

in 2017 i was hyperfixating on Dear Evan Hansen (and Be More Chill, but there weren’t many gif-able videos then considering it ran for a month in New Jersey in 2015 and there was only one yet-to-resurface 35 minute bootleg) so i just grabbed a random gif off of google. i really should get to replacing it with a new header of my own though. i just don’t know what i should do for it.

what’s your post with the most notes?

i have lost track of how many notes it has (i think it’s somewhere around 200 now?) but when Will Roland and George Salazar performed Two Player Game on Good Morning America, i posted a screencap of their Jeremy and Michael along with that one quiz answer meme that says stuff like ‘i want to see it grow up healthy’. i didn’t tag it with any ship names or anything because i was anxious about having it show up in the tags, but somebody who reblogged it from me did tag it as boyf riends and i firmly believe it took off because of that. i don’t think i make posts that are relevant enough to amass thousands of notes, even by accident. which is probably a good thing bc if i did i would have to block so many of them.

on this blog? 175 according to the counter. how many of those are still real people and how many are bots and abandoned accounts? i have no idea.

i try to keep it somewhere around 200. i think i’m sitting at 180 right now but i kind of need to go through and clear out the really inactive blogs.

let’s think about this for a second. i’ve been on tumblr for nearly 10 years. you might even be able to say i’ve made more than one. they’re just not what you would call...popular shitposts.

how do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this’ post?

that stuff makes me so incredibly anxious that i have to fight the urge to want to yeet my laptop or mobile device through the closest window whenever i read it, so i try very hard to avoid any sort of ‘if you don’t reblog this, i’m judging you’ posts. i find them very manipulative and not particularly helpful

yeah babey!! i just frequently forget to do them, but please know that if you have ever tagged me in a tag game i felt incredibly touched by the gesture and the @mention even if i completely forgot to do the thing afterward

i do! but also rip to literally anyone who has ever sent me an ask meme bc it takes me so long to answer them. i’m still working on a micro fic prompt from a few weeks ago. also, horrified to realized that it has in fact been a few weeks and not 3 days anymore.

in any sort of romantic connotation? no. not that i’m aware of. there are mutuals that i have friend crushes on where i want to be friends with them but i get so anxious when it comes to meeting new people that usually nothing ever comes of it. i’m really not good at small talk or other casual conversation either which, as you may or may not be able to imagine, sucks. i just wanna skip over all of the awkward introductions and ‘hey how are you, how is life, what are you doing with yourself?’ stuff. not because i don’t care about it. i do, but i think most of my friends/the people i want to be my friends are also depressed and anxious so asking these basic questions about life tends to uh. make us all nervous. and i don’t do much with my life so i always have the most boring answers anyways.

This place?? This place is for serious and in-depth character and fighting style and plot analyses because I hate myself and am obsessed with Bungou. I am absolutely going to take myself too seriously, that’s kinda my MO, which means @scalpel-mom-mori will have headaches. Hi your name pops up on a lot of different fandoms I'm in - hp, trc, tua, atla. I love your blog, and need some advise. I'm having real trouble. I spend hours on Tumblr because I don't want to unfollow ppl as I want to be mutuals with the content creators in my many fandoms. I like some posts of some people but theyalso post a lot of non fandom things and don't tag for it. Like about drugs mental health or political angry stuff. How do you manage so many communities and following so many ppl

hello there! i don't know if it's a lot of not but i follow around 300 blogs and, true, not all of those are exclusively fandom. i think you actually have different concerns here so i'll try to address these as best as i can—i'm in no way an expert in social relations and definitely not one in online ones so this is just my opinion and my personal experience. (this got long and it's 4 in the morning and i can't find the read more on mobile so just bear with me and scroll down)

while i follow people and read fic and occasionally write and interact with a ton of fandoms, i'm not the same kind of active in all of those. i invest lots of energy in being part of the trc fandom bc i'm really passionate about those characters and their stories, but i for example wouldn't say i'm an active part of the hp fandom. I'm not saying you have to choose just one fandom to make your experience worthwhile, but that you really don't need to force yourself to follow stuff you're not interested in or interact with them. i follow ballet blogs and blogs that only post 19th century painters' works. i like having their posts pop up in my dash. i wouldn't say the people running those are my friends, though, bc we've never really interacted apart from me reblogging their stuff occasionally.

what i'd advise you to do is curate your experience carefully. if you follow some blog but they post a lot of stuff that you don't care about and they don't tag that, you can block the keywords in that stuff (not just the tag but you can now filter words appearing in posts. i have filters set for lots of things i don't want to see like spoilers or artists i don't follow or things that really annoy me and i just don't have to see that content. true, sometimes a post escapes that filter, but i still don't see it 9 out of 10 times so it's worth it).

a person still posts too many things that you don't really want to see, and it's too random that you can't really see a pattern on what to filter, you can either send an ask to that person asking them to tag (and they may do so or not) or you can just unfollow them. it might seem ungrateful? or just rude to unfollow someone that you had followed bc they're a great artist or you like their fics but at the end of the day it's you who count and you who have to look out for yourself. follow more sideblogs or just tags of the things you're interested in and the stuff will just appear on your dash.

as for being more active on fandom and making friends—that's just another can of worms. there are plenty of great advice out there (you can have a look at @ao3commentoftheday great advice on the matter) but it's still hard and depends on lots of factors. there are really populated fandoms in which you get lots of interaction from a fic or just a tagged post, bc there's just so many people, but it's harder to make friends there just bc of that. if the thing you're interested in is a rare pair of an old fandom it's going to be harder having people interested in talking about it. my advice would be to just interact with the stuff you like.

reblog the art you enjoy and leave comments in the tags, send asks to your favourite artists telling them what you enjoyed about what they do. leave comments on ao3 (idk if you're a writer yourself but we do notice you and we learn your usernames and we're always excited to see you there). a longer comment gets more noticed than a short one and a short one more than a kudo. we can not see who subscribed our fics but all of that is still appreciated. even if we creators seem popular or unattainable (we are not and at least i don't consider myself a big name or anything like that) you can always drop by and send an ask or just message us to talk about fandom and stuff. I've heard great things about discord but I have yet to try that myself.

i do personally spend a lot of time on tumblr just bc all those political angry stuff and mental health are things that don't get mentioned in my other feeds in other social media and therefore i don't get too stressed about it. i kinda hate going into twitter bc the political talk is about the people ruling my country so it affects me more directly. here i just enjoy the memes about horses leaving hospitals and vibe with it all. i am also a very curious person that gets bored super easily so i really like that here you can find random videos about chicken and then gorgeous pynch art. i like the variety.

that may not be your case though so I'd just say don't be afraid to unfollow people you don't like following and don't be afraid to interact with people you admire. also, don't expect people to just follow you back and don't be disappointed if they don't. you may be in fandoms they don't like or they may like having a super minimalist dash. you can only control what you do so do your best at that!

it was an Accident but now i'm attached to an au where duke is a magic user instead of a meta. like. his precognition? a form of divination! his whole light motif? magic-y. that whole thing with elaine thomas being offered to join a group of immortals or smith (it's been a hot second since i read that bit) + duke's implied bio dad being implied immortal? ra's being able to give duke shadow manip when ra's' power is tied to magical/mystical sources? side bonus of zatanna mentoring duke - 🌻

SO i’ll be honest im a REALLY big fan of DC mystics (i kinda made a whole sideblog for em lmao plz dont call me out, yes i KNOW i have a lot of sideblogs fdksla;jl) and they kinda already don’t get a whole lotta attention from the DC fandom at large so like... *thumbs up* good for you! do what makes you happy! but im def in the camp of keeping Duke a meta bc, its What He Is and its Already still Pretty Underexplored By The BatFamdom™, and tbh this sounds more like a Universe Alteration than an AU to me? (and yes! there is a key difference there, slight though it may seem!)

like yeah the Science behind metas is often explained away as the by-product of the ‘meta-gene’ so trying to add some intrigue with ~*magic*~ is Understandable, but also feels like an unnecessary complication to both his powers and to his story? especially given that (really with the exception of Zatanna lmao and that’s only bc B n Zee are Childhood Friends but even then sometimes Zee’s on thin ice with him fjdakl;) Bruce Likes Magic Even Less Than He Likes Metas. and again, there’s already still been so little given in the canon itself with regards to Duke’s powers, that I think we (the fandom collectively! not just you bud! all of us!) need to have a couple years to play around in that and really establish an understanding of his powers, before we (again collectively speaking!) really go wild with Universe Alterations

That Being Said, full-blown AUs where Duke gets to be a full-fledged fantasy character, pulling on those Tolkien influences that’ve been sprinkled in his appearances so far? letting him go on real high fantasy adventures or hell, just doing a DnD set-up & using THAT as a proxy for story-telling (then with Duke as either a magic-wielding player or as the DM too i’d love to see both those kinds of fics!), THAT kind of set up is waaaaay more interesting to me personally!! bc its building upon what’s been given and gives us a chance to explore Duke in an entirely new universe without the baggage of canon to contend with!

But! to each their own!! i’m sure there’s plenty of fans who would love to see mystic!Duke too anon! i, unfortunately, am not entirely ready to be in that camp just yet, but that’s okay! bc for every person who maybe doesn’t completely gel with an idea, there’s always bound to be another fan out there who DOES!

how has the pandemic been treating you?

i thought it wasn’t that bad but i’ve been really stressed and i’m the kind of person to eat less (or skip eating) because of stress/anxiety so i’ve lost like 5 pounds since then (making me like 94 when i was barely 99 before). i’m trying to gain it back so my health doesn’t deteriorate any further but i’m not really underweight either?? not only that but a lot of family members have been lost during this time that took a toll on me especially, as well as the pressure of studying and academics.
